ASSEMBLY OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPONENTS IN ESTABLISHMENT OF FOOD/FEED QUALITY AND SAFETY CONTROL SYSTEM

In a study to utilize modern information technologies in establishment of food/feed safety control system; a study was conducted using mobile monitoring devices such as smart phones, car tracking system, audio video real-time broadcasting device, GIS application, portable internet access device, Wi-Fi thermometers to designs a replied quality control inspection system which can be applied in food manufacturing stockholders including official inspection authorities. Results obtained from application of the used modern information system and the mentioned quality control systems revealed that, by using these devices and inspection program (s), both the official bodies and the producers themselves can cooperate to improve the inspection/production activity to assure compliance of the end product with the safety guidelines and subsequently human/animal/environmental safety

USING MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM APPROACH IN VERIFICATION OF HACCP APPLICATION IN LUNCHEON PRODUCTION

In a trail to utilize Management Information System in establishment of food/feed safety control system; a study was conducted to designs a replied quality control inspection system which can be applied in food manufacturing stockholders including official inspection authorities. Samples from Luncheon were collected from different Egyptian market sources categorized according to their hygienic and price level and were analyzed to evaluate their safety condition. Data obtained from the analysis results showed that samples collected from lower quality and price regions had higher health hazards if compared to these collected from higher quality and price regions. Results obtained from application of the used modern management information system and the mentioned quality control systems revealed that, by using these devices and inspection program (s), both the official bodies and the producers themselves can cooperate to improve the inspection/production activity to assure compliance of the end product with the safety guidelines and subsequently human/animal/environmental safety.

Automatic visual inspection system for quality control of the sandwich panel and detecting the dipping and buckling of the surfaces

In this paper, an automated inspection system is proposed for detecting the location and measuring the size of existing dipping or buckling on the sandwich panel surface using an RGB camera and an inexpensive linear laser. The proposed method, by observing the radiated laser beams on the sandwich panel surface, can localize and calculate the level of dipping and buckling with acceptable accuracy while being robust to vibrations of moving sandwich panel on the production line conveyor. After a complete processing of the panel by the system, a three-dimensional (surface plot) or two-dimensional (heat map) output is produced to assist the production line supervisor to easily inspect the surface quality of the sandwich panels. Our experimental results show that the proposed system can detect and measure the surface defects including dipping and buckling with a high accuracy and performance.

Preliminary Development of an Automated Optical Inspection System for Quality Control of Circular Saw Inserts

Circular saw inserts are fundamental and high-value-added cutting tool inserts used for sawing, slot milling, and other related machining processes. In their mass production, sintered blanks are first made by powder metallurgy and then precisely form-ground to generate the geometric shapes and dimensions required for cutting action. In order to ensure quality in the production of circular saw inserts, the defects of sintered blanks and geometric accuracy of semi-products must be inspected before and after the form-grinding process, respectively. To this end, this paper presents the preliminary development of an automated optical inspection (AOI) system for quality control of circular saw inserts. A prototype system was designed and constructed in this study. Image processing procedures were then developed to perform the calibration process of the prototype system, defect detection of the sintered blanks, and geometric measurement of the form-ground semi-products. Experiments were conducted to inspect insert samples and test the feasibility of the developed prototype system. Preliminary experimental results verified the presented prototype system and image processing procedures as being able to inspect certain circular saw inserts for ensuring quality control.

A visual inspection system for quality control of optical lenses

This paper proposes a quality inspection system for optical lenses using computer vision techniques. The system is able to inspect LED (Light-Emitting Diode) lenses visually and to validate their quality level automatically based on the defect severity. The optical inspection system applies the block discrete cosine transform (BDCT), Hotelling statistic, and grey clustering technique to detect visual defects of LED lenses. A spatial domain image with equal sized blocks is converted to DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) domain and some representative energy features of each DCT block are extracted. These energy features of each block are integrated by the statistic and the suspected defect blocks can be determined by the multivariate statistical method. Then, the grey clustering algorithm based on the block grey relational grades is conducted to further confirm the block locations of real defects. Finally, a simple segmentation method is applied to set a threshold for distinguishing between defective areas and uniform regions. Experimental results show the defect detection rate of the proposed method is 94.64% better than those of traditional spatial and frequency domain techniques. Signal processing unit for laser tracer providing submicron-accuracy diameter measurement

The advent of the space age and, more recently, nanotechnology, together with consumer demand for the timely delivery of good quality products has resulted in greater emphasis being placed on instrumentation, in terms of accuracy, tolerance and speed. This paper looks at the design of a stand-alone laser tracer signal processing unit that permits diameter measurements to be made on-line at selectable frequencies of up to 500 measurements per second. The system is of the non-contact type and can measure diameters up to 2.0000 mm with a resolution of 0.5 μm. It is shown that with two of these devices connected together, and by externally introducing a means of measuring the distance between the devices, diameters of up to 220.000 mm can be measured; however the total system resolution is then limited by the resolution of the system that measures the distance between the devices. Suggestions are made as to how this system could be incorporated into an automatic inspection system for quality control.

Microprocessor-based approach to industrial devices quality control

An industrial devices quality control inspection system based on a general purpose microprocessor is proposed. The system employs a microprocessor CPU, timer, ROM and peripheral interfaces in the hardware portion. Software includes an algorithm incorporating data acquisition, statistical computation and command interpreting functions, plus arithmetic and conversion subroutines. Two applications have been developed and are briefly described.
