Estimate and Extend the Time between Overhauls for the Railcar Body

This paper addresses the challenge of estimating and extending the time between overhauls of railcar bodies, which are crucial components in rail freight transportation. Railcar bodies endure significant operational loads, leading to damage and the need for frequent repairs. In response to this issue, a novel approach has been proposed: the use of an operational factor of safety that considers both the probability of failure-free operation and the likelihood of load occurrence on the railcar body. A new equation has been introduced to determine the time between overhauls of these bodies. The focus of this paper is on the development of innovative engineering solutions aimed at enhancing the strength and reliability of railcar bodies. Theoretical and experimental studies were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed design. The results demonstrate that the implementation of these solutions can extend the time between overhauls of the railcar body by 1.21 to 2.06 times, depending on operating conditions.

The Role of Business Incubators in Encouraging Maritime Technology Start-up Innovation

This study examines the critical role of business incubators in driving innovation in maritime technology start-ups. With the growing need for innovative technology solutions in the maritime industry, business incubators have emerged as a key catalyst in developing and introducing new ideas to the market. The study used a qualitative approach, involving in-depth interviews with 30 stakeholders, including start-up founders, incubator managers, and maritime industry experts. The results showed that business incubators provide critical support in the form of access to funding, expert mentoring, research and development facilities, and extensive industry networks. The findings also revealed that incubators that focus on the maritime sector are more effective in helping start-ups overcome industry-specific challenges. The study highlights the importance of collaboration between incubators, the maritime industry, and educational institutions to create an ecosystem that supports innovation. Implications of this study include recommendations for policymakers and industry players in designing more effective incubation programs to drive maritime technology innovation.

Effect of Ionic Surfactants on Kinetics and Mechanism of the Bi(III) Ion Electroreduction in the Mixed Aqueous–Organic Solutions of Supporting Electrolytes

This work presents the results of a study on the effect of ionic surfactants: cationic hexadecyltriammonium bromide (CTAB) and anionic sodium salt of sulfonic acid (1OSASS) on the Bi(III) electroreduction process in mixed aqueous–organic supporting electrolyte solutions containing methanol. This study showed that the composition of the supporting electrolyte solution, particularly the methanol and surfactant concentrations, significantly affects the mechanism and rate of the Bi(III) ion electroreduction. Analysis of the influence of the indicated factors on the mechanisms and kinetics of metal ion electroreduction can contribute not only to the optimization of industrial electrochemical processes but also to the development of innovative technological solutions, such as advanced electrochemical materials and novel sensors. In these experiments, an innovative electrode made of cyclic renewable liquid silver amalgam (R-AgLAFE) was used as a working electrode, which stands out among classic mercury electrodes (HMDE type) due to the significant reduction in mercury consumption while maintaining similar performance.

Manufacturing and mechanical performance of lightened gypsum reinforced by hemp/epoxy composites

In recent years, the construction industry has increasingly focused on reducing its environmental impact, addressing research efforts towards innovative materials and technological solutions. In this context, gypsum-based materials and natural fibers represent some of the most promising alternatives in terms of sustainability. This paper aims to propose a new gypsum structure reinforced with a composite hemp fabric impregnated with epoxy resin, investigating its manufacturing process and the mechanical properties, specifically in terms of flexural, impact and bearing strength. To achieve lightweight structures, lightened gypsum was also considered in addition to conventional gypsum. Both the lightened gypsum matrix and the hemp/epoxy reinforcement were produced using specific techniques able to obtain lightweight gypsum composites. Beneficial effects in the use of lightened gypsum matrix were found indeed, the reinforced lightweight samples exhibited higher values of flexural strength coupled with a density reduction of about 18%. Additionally, a significant change in post-cracking behavior was observed, with a gradual failure rather than a brittle one. The same trend was observed for the impact, while for bearing strength, the presence of porosity affected negatively the resistance of the composites, prevailing over the benefits of density reduction. Experimental results demonstrated the presence of a good interaction between the hemp fabric and the gypsum matrix, which was further confirmed by the microstructure analysis. The interesting mechanical properties showed by these lightweight gypsum/hemp composites, suggested their possible use for different and unconventional applications of gypsum-based walls and components.

Management of radio-frequency interferences for space traffic management: Current regulations, operations practice, technology mitigation solutions and future trends

Radio-Frequency Interference (RFI) has a large impact on the business of commercial satellites communications and will have an increasingly important role in the next years and decades due to the spread of the launched spacecraft population.This paper presents the current state-of-the-art for Space Traffic Management -related RFI from a regulatory point of view, with regards to preventing and correcting harmful interference, linked to the International Telecommunication Union, and from a technical point of view, with technical procedures, workflows and innovative technology solutions for preventing and mitigating RFI. Finally, emerging technology trends and future directions are presented.

Innovative approaches to social impact measurement: a focus on the potential of artificial intelligence solutions

Purpose The existing literature highlights challenges in measuring social impact within social and solidarity economy organisations, particularly regarding the social return on investment (SROI) methodology. This paper aims to address the barriers to SROI implementation while exploring the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing the measurement of social impact. Design/methodology/approach This review-based paper synthesises research on SROI methodology limitations and recent AI developments while focusing on ethical considerations. Drawing from these domains, the study constructs a conceptual framework to guide future research. Findings The study identifies necessary enhancements to existing AI systems for social impact measurement and explores how advances in generative AI could refine current tools and address SROI constraints. It advocates for open AI models to address ethical concerns. Originality/value This study pioneers the integration of social impact assessment and AI, an innovative intersection in the academic literature. The growing disparity between academia and the rapidly evolving AI industry is highlighted and scholarly discourse is enriched through theoretical deliberations and innovative technological solutions.

Approaches to inclusive foreign language instruction in higher education

Introduction: The rapid development trend in innovative technological solutions significantly impacts societal activities, stimulating global digital transformation processes in the educational environment. Objectives: The article analyses innovative tools within the concept of inclusive technologies for teaching foreign languages in higher education in the digital age. Methods: Several general scientific research methods were used to achieve the research objectives, including abstraction, analysis, synthesis, induction, and deduction. Results: Attention is focused on exploring the potential of audio-lingual and audiovisual methods, didactic game solutions, case methods, reproductive methods, thematic studies, linguistic and sociocultural, and project methodologies. It has been proven that using digital educational platforms in educational programmes allows teaching foreign languages to be carried out at a high professional level, stimulating aspects of motivation and effectiveness. The study identifies that implementing innovative approaches in inclusive strategies for teaching foreign languages enables students to gain practical skills through active interaction with various non-standard methods and forms of work. Such methods include brainstorming, project work, role-playing, group work, and several others. It has been found that specific innovative approaches, such as random and cross-learning, learning through argumentation, or embodied learning, form a solid practical basis for the successful future application of acquired knowledge. Conclusions: The article proves that innovative methods of teaching foreign languages within the framework of inclusive educational technology programmes have the potential to create an effective learning environment, ensuring a significant improvement in the quality of higher education

Innovative teaching methods for developing basic skills in higher education students through real professional contexts

Introduction: The intensification of the significance of educational activity as an indicator of active social development under the conditions of global digitalisation creates prerequisites for actualising the issues of its informational support.Objective: The research is dedicated to analysing the functional capabilities of digitalisation in the context of forming critical competencies of students in conditions close to the realities of professional activity.Methods: The article outlines the functionality of innovative educational systems within the educational institution's information educational environment.Results: The study found that today's students at various levels are ready to implement elements of e-learning, artificial intelligence technologies, and immersive tools. It is proven that the introduction of innovative technological solutions into the educational environment creates learning conditions close to the realities of professional activity, increasing the motivation of students for an effective learning process, stimulating the involvement of reserves in the organisation of the continuous self-education process, and intensifying responsibility and self-organisation. Identified within modern information systems are tools and services that diversify the learning process and increase the effectiveness of the educational process, contributing to the formation of key competencies of higher education students.Conclusions: The research indicates a trend towards increasing the efficiency of student training based on the organisation of independent educational work with the implementation of innovative pedagogical opportunities in the educational process. The study's practical significance lies in determining the potential for improving the quality of education at the national level through modern information technologies

Objective: Develop a Progressive Web Application (PWA) to optimize solid waste management in the Coelhos neighborhood in Recife, promoting sustainable practices. Literature Review: The study is based on emerging technologies for waste management, such as IoT and optimization algorithms, addressing challenges and benefits. Method: It includes participatory diagnosis, data collection, and development of the "Limpa+Coelhos" application, integrating technologies like Angular and Google Maps to facilitate waste collection. Results and Discussion: The application significantly increased collection efficiency and community awareness, improving interaction between users and waste management services. Research Implications: The study highlights the potential of PWAs to promote more sustainable and interactive waste management practices in urban contexts. Originality/Value: The research demonstrates the effectiveness of PWAs in improving solid waste management, contributing to the development of innovative technological solutions in urban areas.

The global demand for high-quality canned fish products has driven the adoption of advanced inspection technologies to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This paper provides a comprehensive review of real-time electronic vision technologies employed in the inspection of canned fish quality. It traces the evolution of the canned fish industry from manual inspection methods to sophisticated automated systems, emphasizing the role of technologies such as hyperspectral imaging, machine learning algorithms, and electronic vision systems. The effectiveness of these technologies in detecting defects, assessing quality parameters, and maintaining product integrity is critically analyzed. Despite their benefits, challenges such as high costs, the need for specialized skills, and integration complexities with existing production processes are significant barriers. This review addresses these challenges and proposes solutions, including cost-reduction strategies, workforce training, and the development of adaptable systems. Additive manufacturing — a new vector in the production and repair of rolling stock

The influence of the fourth industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0, on modern industrial production and social life is analyzed. The main advantages of Industry 4.0 are presented, such as increasing productivity and occupational safety, developing new products and materials, as well as increasing the competitiveness of products. Special attention is paid to additive technologies and their role in modern engineering within the framework of the Industry 4.0 concept. The methods of additive technologies, their classification by materials and production methods, as well as their various applications in various industries are described in detail. An example of the successful use of additive technologies is presented on the example of JSC Uralvagonzavod Scientific and Production Corporation, where molds and rods for casting parts with high speed and quality are created using 3D printers. The project of introducing 3D printers into the service depots of the directorate of motor car rolling stock of JSC Russian Railways is considered, with an emphasis on the economic and temporary benefits from the use of additive technologies. The concept of introducing additive technologies in the maintenance and repair of rolling stock involves the creation of support depots on the railway network of JSC Russian Railways. In conclusion, the importance of training highly qualified specialists in the field of additive technologies and the need to develop educational programs to train future employees capable of solving complex tasks of creating and applying new industrial technologies is presented. Special attention is paid to synergetic approaches in education to combine learning with scientific activity and the creation of innovative technological solutions.

The formation of a sustainable research culture is an important aspect of the development of higher engineering education in the Russian Federation. In order to achieve the technological sovereignty of the country, the educational paradigm of higher engineering education is also changing, shifting its emphasis towards the development of research culture, technical creativity, and independence in carrying out research projects. Research culture is crucial for solving many other social problems and developing technologies to improve the quality of life in modern society. Human capital management mechanisms are rapidly developing due to the dynamic nature of socio-economic changes and the emergence of innovative technological solutions. The transition to a new stage in the development of civilization means a change in people’s attitude to creating a material basis and ensuring existence. Most of the functions of people will eventually move into the phase of creative creation and management of these relationships, rather than direct participation in them. These trends are intensifying with the development and widespread dissemination of artificial intelligence, to which people begin to transfer an increasing number of functions to ensure the material basis for their own existence and development. The nature of labor is changing, and, consequently, the requirements for human capital are changing. Studying the nature of human capital as a self-increasing value and identifying the internal laws of innovative development make it possible to build a human resource management system in the context of sustainability by identifying the core of this system, the internal impulse and the mechanism of its dynamic development. Which is of particular importance for leveling risks and preventing the negative consequences of new challenges of our time. The transformation of modern society can be considered from this point of view as a transition period to a new view at human and his/her relationship with the environment, including human’s attitude to himself and his/her own environment (both personal and business), to nature, to the state and the world order.

The objectives of the program are meticulously outlined, detailing the implementation of innovative technological solutions and digital marketing strategies designed to increase production efficiency, product quality, and market reach. The study also discusses the anticipated socio-economic impacts, particularly the potential for sustained community empowerment and economic resilience. The integration of these modern approaches aims to foster long-term sustainability and competitive advantage for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Aceh, thereby contributing to broader economic recovery and growth.

Design of a Gaze-Controlled Interactive Art System for the Elderly to Enjoy Life.

The impact of global population aging on older adults' health and emotional well-being is examined in this study, emphasizing innovative technological solutions to address their diverse needs. Changes in physical and mental functions due to aging, along with emotional challenges that necessitate attention, are highlighted. Gaze estimation and interactive art are utilized to develop an interactive system tailored for elderly users, where interaction is simplified through eye movements to reduce technological barriers and provide a soothing art experience. By employing multi-sensory stimulation, the system aims to evoke positive emotions and facilitate meaningful activities, promoting active aging. Named "Natural Rhythm through Eyes", it allows for users to interact with nature-themed environments via eye movements. User feedback via questionnaires and expert interviews was collected during public demonstrations in elderly settings to validate the system's effectiveness in providing usability, pleasure, and interactive experience for the elderly. Key findings include the following: (1) Enhanced usability of the gaze estimation interface for elderly users. (2) Increased enjoyment and engagement through nature-themed interactive art. (3) Positive influence on active aging through the integration of gaze estimation and interactive art. These findings underscore technology's potential to enhance well-being and quality of life for older adults navigating aging challenges.

The Impact of Cryptocurrency on Money Laundering Practices

The coming of cryptocurrencies has, amazingly, changed the face of the financial space. It has opened up opportunities and challenges in the field of money laundering. The deep impact of cryptocurrencies on the practice of money laundering becomes a detailed study. Since digital currencies are embedded with inherent characteristics, such as anonymity, decentralization, and the ease of performing cross-border transfers, criminals have now found new ways to conceal their illicit financial activities. The paper critically reviews how cryptocurrencies are used in money laundering schemes, evaluates the effectiveness of current legal provisions and anti-money laundering measures, and reviews case studies that exemplify real-world applications and challenges to regulatory bodies. Moreover, it offers recommendations on the use of new technologies, like blockchain analytics, toward better detection and prevention of money laundering through cryptocurrency. The paper thus provides a range of useful insights, associated with recommendations for the strengthening of the global regulatory framework in dealing with the increased threat of cryptocurrency money laundering, through a synthesis of the literature review, case analysis, and expert interviews. The paper contributes to this debate by providing insight into the challenges that regulatory authorities face and making recommendations to improve anti-money laundering efforts in the cryptocurrency space. This is done through an in-depth review of recent cases and legislation in this area. The findings were that, though cryptocurrencies pose a great challenge, innovative technology solutions coupled with international cooperation can play a vital role in mitigating the risks associated with cryptocurrency-based money laundering.
