Literature Review on the Evaluation of Innovation Capability of Enterprise

This paper summarizes the research status of innovation capability of enterprise, reviews the importance of enhancing the capability of independent innovation as a national development strategy. In particular, the Wenzhou government attaches great importance to innovation and the promotion of "Science and Technology Innovation Index".This paper systematically combs the innovation theory, the Delphi method and other related theories, analyzes the development trend of innovation theory research, innovation capability index construction and evaluation method at home and abroad. Through literature review, this paper summarizes the multi-dimensional index system of enterprise innovation capability evaluation, including innovation input, output, research and development, environment and so on, and discusses the application of subjective and objective evaluation methods.Finally, it points out the shortcomings of the current research, and provides a theoretical basis and direction guidance for the follow-up research on the evaluation of enterprise innovation capability.

Impact of Enterprise Innovation Capability on Mergers and Acquisitions Performance

Corporate mergers and acquisitions are beneficial for enhancing competitiveness, promoting industrial upgrading, and expanding market share. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the country has attached great importance to innovation and focused on promoting innovation, placing it at the core of strategic deployment. It can be seen that enhancing innovation capability is particularly important for enterprises. Based on this background, analyzing the relationship between corporate innovation capability and merger and acquisition performance has important academic research significance. This article selects the corporate mergers and acquisitions events of listed companies from 2015 to 2019 as the research object, and empirically tests the impact of corporate innovation capability on corporate merger and acquisition performance through regression analysis. The empirical results show that: (1) the innovation capability of enterprises has a positive promoting effect on the performance of corporate mergers and acquisitions; (2) Both manufacturing and non manufacturing enterprises show a significant positive correlation between their innovation capabilities and M&A performance; (3) There is a significant positive correlation between the innovation capability of enterprises that do not involve major asset restructuring and their M&A performance; (4) Geographical regions can affect the relationship between a company's innovation capability and its merger and acquisition performance.

Impact of transparent economy on high-tech enterprises in the modern business environment of China

High-quality information support for modern high-tech enterprises in any country is of undeniable relevance. An open, accessible, and fair, transparent economy creates an atmosphere of trust in which people easily perceive transparency, fairness, and efficiency of economic management. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of a transparent economy on the investment environment, innovation, competitive advantage, government regulation, and the formation of corporate social responsibility in the modern business environment on the example of high-tech enterprises in China. This study uses a multiple linear regression model to analyze the impact of a transparent economy on high-tech enterprises. The research sources included the CSMAR database, China’s stock market and accounting research, China’s economic and financial research database, CRSP, COMPUSTAT, and others, and financial statements of selected high-tech companies. Sustainable development, R&D and innovation, investor relations, social responsibility, and market competitiveness are identified as key aspects of the relationship between a transparent economy and high-tech enterprises. The study confirmed a positive correlation between a transparent economy and the efficiency of resource allocation of high-tech enterprises, the innovation capabilities of high-tech enterprises, the market competitiveness of high-tech enterprises, and the efficiency of state supervision of high-tech enterprises.

A study of the impact of digital transformation on corporate green innovation——Based on the Financing Constraints Perspective

Against the backdrop of a booming digital economy and green and low-carbon becoming the main theme of the times, this paper empirically explores how digital transformation affects and enhances the green innovation capability of enterprises based on the data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2018 to 2022. The possible mediating role of financing constraints in this process is deeply analyzed. The findings show that digital transformation significantly promotes the development of green innovation in enterprises, and this positive effect is more prominent in non-state-owned enterprises and mature enterprises. Further exploration shows that financing constraints play a partial mediating role between digital transformation and green innovation. Combining the findings, this paper makes recommendations at the enterprise and government levels, respectively: first, enterprises should actively participate in digital transformation and strive to enhance green innovation by alleviating financing constraints. Second, the government should continue to optimize the subsidy policy to provide stronger support for enterprises' green innovation, and then promote the sustainable enhancement of green innovation in the whole society.

The effect of state-owned venture capital on enterprise innovation: Evidence from China

Venture capital (VC) funded by state-owned enterprises constitutes a significant component of China's state-owned capital (SOC) investment. This paper empirically investigates the impact of state-owned venture capital (SOVC) on enterprise innovation and identifies that SOVC exerts a more pronounced influence on enhancing enterprise innovation capability. SOVC facilitates the enhancement of enterprise innovation capability by alleviating financial constraints, fostering joint investments, and attracting technical talents. This paper not only aids in identifying effective approaches to advance SOC reform but also contributes to enhancing enterprise innovation capability through the utilization of SOC.

A study on the impact of supply chain finance on the innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises - mediated by the intermediary effect of financing constraints

Based on a detailed analysis of viewpoints proposed in relevant literature both domestically and internationally, this paper empirically investigates the impact of supply chain finance on the innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), utilizing financial data from listed companies on China's SME board from 2012 to 2022. Additionally, it explores whether the alleviation of financing constraints plays an intermediary effect in this pathway. The findings reveal that: (1) The development of supply chain finance can enhance the innovation capability of SMEs, and its significance level is correlated with the nature of the enterprise's equity; (2) Most SMEs face financing difficulties, and implementing supply chain finance can effectively alleviate these financing constraints. Furthermore, compared to state-owned enterprises, this alleviation effect is more pronounced for non-state-owned enterprises; (3) There exists a significant intermediary effect of financing constraints, indicating that supply chain finance can ease financing constraints, thereby facilitating the improvement of enterprise innovation capabilities. Finally, based on the research findings, this paper presents relevant recommendations from the perspectives of the government, financial institutions, and SMEs.

Can board of directors’ faultlines improve corporate innovation performance? Evidence from China

Innovation, which is a pivotal force behind the sustained growth of enterprises, has garnered significant attention across various industries. As the epicenter of corporate decision-making, the board of directors plays a pivotal role in allocating resources and overseeing the execution of strategy. Consequently, it inevitably impacts the innovation capabilities of a business. Previous research has focused primarily on single board member characteristics, such as age, gender, tenure, and educational qualifications, overlooking the cumulative influence of multiple attributes. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of faultlines arising from the intersection of these characteristics within a board on innovation performance. Using panel data from China’s A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2021, this research constructs a framework to analyze board faultlines based on gender, age, education, director tenure, independence status, and occupational background. A comprehensive examination reveals a positive association between board faultlines and innovation performance, indicating that diversity within a board can foster enhanced innovative outputs. These findings persist even after rigorous robustness tests, including two-stage instrumental variable regression using lagged innovation performance as well as when substituting explanatory variables and sample intervals. Further analysis reveals that the influence of board faultlines on innovation performance is significant only under certain contextual conditions: when equity concentration is low, industry competition is intense, and risk aversion is greater. This study offers valuable insights for optimizing board membership configurations and thus, ultimately, enhancing the innovation capabilities of enterprises.

Green taxation, regional green development and innovation: Mechanisms of influence and policy optimization

As the severity of global climate change escalates, carbon peak and carbon neutrality have emerged as international imperatives. Green taxation, a crucial fiscal strategy promoting the transition to a green low-carbon economy, demands thorough investigation regarding its efficacy and operational mechanisms. Predominantly, existing research has concentrated on the macroeconomic implications of green taxes, while their influence on regional green growth and innovation remains underexplored. This paper delineates green taxation in both a broad and narrow sense, elucidating its essence and potential in stimulating regional green progress and innovation. Utilizing panel data from 30 provinces in China spanning 2004 to 2021, a bidirectional fixed-effects model was developed for empirical analysis. Moreover, an impact mechanism model was constructed to delve into how green taxation specifically affects regional green development and innovation. Findings reveal that green taxation significantly fosters regional green growth and markedly enhances green innovation. Nonetheless, due to the resource crowding-out effect, it adversely impacts the comprehensive innovation capabilities of regional enterprises. This insight offers a fresh perspective on the paradoxical effects of green taxation, underscoring the necessity for a balanced approach in policy design and implementation. Drawing on these conclusions, the paper presents tailored policy recommendations.

The Influence of Technological Innovation Capability on Sustainable Supply Chain Management Implementation—Evidence from Patent-Intensive Industries

The technological innovation capability of enterprises has many functions and many influences on the implementation of sustainable supply chain management. The study aims to shed light on how technological innovation capabilities (TICs) affect the implementation of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) and how they can help organizations overcome internal barriers to SSCM implementation. This descriptive survey was conducted in the context of Iran. The survey was carried out with 27 responses, which were analyzed by one-sample t-test to determine the relationships between variables, and the Friedman test to rank the results. This study employs SPSS for statistical analysis. The study reveals that all TICs have a substantial effect on SSCM implementation in general, especially the learning capability, resource allocation capability, and manufacturing capability, which all have an almost identical positive and significant effect on SSCM implementation. Interestingly, organizing capability had the least influence on SSCM implementation. In addition, the results demonstrating improved TICs could assist firms in overcoming internal barriers to SSCM implementation. From a practical standpoint, the relationship between TICs and SSCM implementation and its barriers may give insight into how organizations can enhance their SSCM implementation by improving TICs. Moreover, policymakers and sustainable supply chain managers in Iran can benefit from the identified relationships in this study. This study is one of the first to analyze the impact of TICs on SSCM implementation, and the findings provide a novel paradigm for understanding how TICs influence the implementation of SSCM.

The Expansion of Central Bank Collateral and Green Innovation of Enterprises

This article takes the policy event of green bonds being included in the MLF (Medium Term Lending Facility) qualified collateral framework in June 2018 as a quasi natural experiment, and analyzes the impact of the expansion of the collateral framework of the new monetary policy on the credit spread of green bonds and the green innovation output of enterprises issuing green bonds based on a two period and multi period double difference model. The research results indicate that, firstly, the expansion of collateral by the central bank will significantly reduce the credit spread of green bonds and lower the financing costs of enterprises. Secondly, the expansion of collateral by the central bank will promote the improvement of green technology innovation capabilities of green enterprises, and alleviate their financing problems by issuing green bonds and green bonds themselves.

R&D globalization and enterprise innovation capability

This paper selects the data of China's A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2022 as the research sample to explore the impact of R&D globalization on corporate innovation capability. It is found that R&D globalization activities significantly improve firms' innovation capability; executives' overseas experience positively affects the relationship between the two dimensions of R&D globalization and firms' innovation; and executives' political affiliation only positively affects the relationship between the depth of R&D globalization and firms' innovation capability.

Research on the Driving Mechanism of Intelligent Renovation and Digital Transformation in Traditional Enterprises

Intelligent renovation and digital transformation have become effective paths for traditional enterprises to enhance their core competitiveness. The rapid and extensive application of digital technology has become a crucial catalyst for the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. This digital transformation not only enhances production efficiency, product quality, and cost reduction but also boosts the competitiveness and innovation capabilities of enterprises. In this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with personnel at various levels of 30 traditional enterprises, utilizing grounded theory to extract significant factors that influence enterprise digital transformation. A theoretical model was developed, identifying environmental changes as external factors impacting enterprise digital transformation, and internal driving forces including enterprise resources, entrepreneurial spirit, employee involvement, enterprise capabilities, and strategic planning. Through comprehensive research on the driving mechanism of digital transformation in traditional enterprises, this study proposes effective strategies and path choices for enterprises. These include “government-enterprise collaboration” and “industry chain collaboration” along with “strengthening the foundation” and “enhancing capabilities.” The aim is to promote successful intelligent renovation and digital transformation among traditional enterprises.

Innovation Capability and Sustainable Performance Through Knowledge Management in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

Knowledge management (KM) across organizations is based on the realization that integrating knowledge or more broadly intellectual capital (IC) both inside and outside the enterprise helps enhance the innovation capability (INC) and sustainable performance (SUP) of enterprises. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of internal intellectual capital (IIC), external intellectual capital (EIC), and social capital (SOC) on INC and SUP through KM in SMEs. The survey questionnaire was sent to managers working in Vietnamese SMEs. SPSS and AMOS software were used for data analysis. The results indicate that IIC, EIC, and SOC have positive impacts on the INC and SUP of SMEs through KM activities. These findings hope to be useful for scholars and especially SME owners to understand more thoroughly the relationships between IC, SOC, and KM, as well as the influence of these relationships on INC and SUP, while providing new insight and useful suggestions for owners of SMEs in acquiring and exploiting knowledge from outside to fill knowledge gaps within the enterprise.

How to Improve an Enterprise’s Innovation Capability from the Perspective of High- and Low-Level Enterprises Using Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis

An enterprise’s capability is based on the quantity and collocation pattern of the heterogeneous resources it possesses. Innovation resources are the source of enterprise innovation capability. However, there is still a “black box” problem of the impact of the intensity of government support on enterprise innovation. Therefore, it is necessary to study high- or low-level enterprise innovation capability by combining the internal and external factors of the enterprise—the background characteristics of R&D personnel and the degree of government support. Based on the configuration perspective, this study uses the qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method to conduct a comparative analysis of the innovation capabilities of enterprises in five time windows over six years with the longitudinal database of China’s industrial enterprises whose operating income exceeds RMB 20 million from 2010 to 2015. This paper summarizes two ways of realizing high-level enterprise innovation capability: female and highly educated R&D personnel type, and highly educated R&D personnel and high government investment type. The enterprise innovation capability is affected simultaneously by multiple conditional variables, and the impact of each conditional variable on enterprise innovation capability has a trend. Further, it analyzes the impact of every antecedent variable comparing high- to low-level enterprise innovation.

Research on the impact of industrial innovation determinants in China

ABSTRACT China's industries have been positioned at lower and mid-range of the global industrial chain. On the basis of the latest China Economic Census, the effects of external technology acquisition and internal research and development (R&D) efforts on the innovation performance of Chinese industrial enterprises are examined. The results demonstrate that the levels of R&D intensity, patent output and innovation capability of Chinese industrial enterprises are still very low. Independent R&D has become the most vital source of technological innovation. External technology acquisition significantly inhibits the impact of internal R&D on patent production. In addition, the critical role of independent R&D in the innovation performance of Chinese industrial enterprises is confirmed. This study is of theoretical value and practical significance for promoting the industrial innovation advantages, accelerating the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and upgrading industrial structure.

Study on the impact of digital transformation on the innovation potential based on evidence from Chinese listed companies

Digital transformation has emerged as a powerful force in reshaping the business landscape and enabling organizations to enhance their capabilities. One critical aspect of this change is how it impacts an enterprise’s innovation ability. To explore this question, we select data regarding China’s A-share listed enterprises from 2007 to 2021 as the research sample. We employ crawler technology to gather keywords related to “digital transformation” from annual reports, portraying detailed journeys of enterprises’ digital transformation. Through descriptive statistics and multiple covariance tests, a linear relationship is established between digital transformation and innovation ability. Benchmark regression is conducted and a robustness test is utilized to determine the robustness of the benchmark regression. The mechanism, heterogeneity, and moderating effects of this study are also tested. The results reveal that digital transformation makes a significant positive contribution to the innovation capability of enterprises. Meanwhile, among different types of enterprises, the impact of digital transformation on enterprise innovation capability shows heterogeneity. In terms of the impact mechanism, digital transformation can enhance the innovation output of enterprises by reducing the agency cost and improving the risk-taking level of enterprises, so as to further improve the innovation capability of enterprises. The research results of this paper provide essential theoretical support for the digital transformation of enterprises and the government’s formulation of enterprises’ digitalization strategies. More profoundly, it provides significant reference for how to further promote the digital transformation of Chinese enterprises.

Enterprise technological innovation capability evaluation using a spherical fuzzy number based CSM-EDAS model

With the rapid development of science and technology, the flow of information has become more convenient, and society has entered the era of knowledge economy. In this era, technological innovation capability is becoming increasingly important and has become an important weapon for enterprises to survive in fierce competition, especially for technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises. Nowadays, technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises have developed many technological innovation achievements through continuous technological innovation, and have created a large number of high-tech products and services. Technological innovation has been proven to effectively improve the core competitiveness and economic benefits of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, evaluating the technological innovation capabilities of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises has both theoretical and practical significance. The enterprise technological innovation capability evaluation from a low carbon perspective could be deemed as the multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problem. Recently, the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) technique and cosine similarity measure (CSM) technique has been employed to manage MAGDM issues. The spherical fuzzy sets (SFSs) are used as an efficient tool for portraying uncertain information during the enterprise technological innovation capability evaluation from a low carbon perspective. In this paper, the spherical fuzzy number EDAS based on the CSM (SFN-CSM-EDAS) technique is cultivated to manage the MAGDM under SFSs. Finally, a numerical study for enterprise technological innovation capability evaluation from a low carbon perspective is supplied to validate the proposed technique. The main contributions of this paper are outlined: (1) the EDAS and CSM technique was extended to SFSs; (2) the CRITIC technique is used to derive weight based on CSM technique under SFSs. (3) the SFN-CSM-EDAS technique is founded to manage the MAGDM under SFSs; (4) a numerical case study for enterprise technological innovation capability evaluation from a low carbon perspective and some comparative analysis is supplied to validate the SFN-CSM-EDAS technique.

How green industrial policy affects the constancy of green technology innovation: a fresh proof from the innovation motivation perspective

Green industrial policy is an important means to achieve coordinated development of the environment and industry. Enterprises are the primary bodies involved in the green transformation of the market. Thus, it is important for governments and policymakers to recognize the micro-effects of policy implementation on enterprise innovation. From the perspective of the green-tech innovation motivation of enterprises, this study distinguishes green enterprises using text mining analysis methods. Based on propensity score matching (PSM) samples and using panel data from 1,391 listed enterprises in China for the period of 2008–2019, a log log survival analysis model was constructed, and the effectiveness of green industrial policy on the green-tech innovation constancy of enterprises was dynamically analyzed. The results demonstrate that enterprises supported by the green industrial policy can significantly reduce the risk rate of stopping green-tech innovation constancy. Green industrial policy can significantly improve the constancy of the green technological innovation capabilities of enterprises. The innovation constancy of state-owned enterprises is higher than that of private enterprises. Furthermore, intermediary effect tests indicate that different types of green industrial policies stimulate enterprises to generate different innovation motivations. Command-control policies can promote substantive innovation constancy through the industrial competition effect and exert a significantly positive effect. Market-oriented policies can induce enterprises to perform strategic innovation constancy through fiscal incentives and financial investment effects and can produce significant negative effects. Based on these findings, this study proposes improvements in the policy construction of a long-term mechanism to strengthen the substantive innovation of enterprises. This study provides a theoretical basis and policy reference for improving the incentive efficiency of green industrial policies and promoting constant enterprise innovation under the Green and High-Quality Development Goals of China.

The impact of equity incentive on the innovation ability of Listed Enterprises

Equity incentives address the limitation of short-term incentive effects associated with salary incentives and contribute significantly to enhancing the innovation capabilities of key employees. This paper focuses on A-share manufacturing listed companies from 2018 to 2022 to examine the impact of equity incentives on enterprise innovation abilities. The findings demonstrate the positive influence of equity incentives on enterprise innovation capabilities, particularly for core employees. Furthermore, there exists a positive correlation between the level of equity concentration and the innovation abilities of enterprises.
