Study of the modern reclamation and ecological state of soils in Azerbaijan

For many years in the Republic of Azerbaijan, numerous reclamation and ecological measures aimed at attracting agricultural lands of natural cenoses to use in agrocenoses were carried out. The soils of the studied territory are quite unique in terms of their soil-forming structure and ecological conditions, and they differ from other regions of the country in terms of irrigation water content. The article reflects some important results of soil and water studies conducted over the last years. Determining the qualitative composition of groundwater and irrigation water in different seasons of the year using modern methods is relevant from an environmental and reclamation point of view. Based on remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technologies, our research is based on the analysis of natural and anthropogenic landscape changes and changes in natural conditions as a result of agricultural development in the 20 km buffer zone along the banks of Kura and Araz rivers. As a result of the conducted research, it was determined that the rapid growth of the population has caused the reduction of the area of agro-landscapes, the salinization of the soil, the drying of the water in the water basins, the expansion of the construction areas. This has disrupted the natural balance.

Landslide susceptibility modelling in the Doda Kishtwar ramban (DKR) region of Jammu and Kashmir using remote sensing and geographic information system

The present study represents a significant understanding, employing cutting-edge Remote Sensing(RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies by conducting a comprehensive landslide susceptibility modelling in the Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban (DKR) districts of the Union Territory of the Jammu and Kashmir in the NW Himalaya. The primary objective of this study is to determine the areas that are at high risk of landslides and accordingly classified these risk zones into five distinct categories, ranging from very high (VH) to very low (VL) susceptibility. To achieve this, a multifaceted approach, involving the utilization of various terrain thematic layers in the GIS environment was applied. The preferred framework employed in this study is the Weighted Overlay (WO) analysis. The final outcome of the study is the final landslide susceptibility map which is a significant and valuable resource for a wide range of stakeholders, including decision-makers, land managers, and local communities. It equips these stakeholders with the information and insights required to adopt proactive strategies in response to the identified landslide susceptibility zones.

Enhancing agile project success: a comprehensive study of risk management approaches among Malaysian practitioners

AbstractRisk management (RM) plays a role in project management in the software development field. As information technology (IT) systems become more essential across industries and IT projects continue to face failure rates effective project management becomes crucial. However, the utilization of methodologies in risk management is not widely considered, specifically in Malaysia. This study aims to investigate how software practitioners in Malaysia have implemented risk management and discover strategies that can enhance risk management for agile contexts. The main focus of this study is the limited integration of methodologies into risk management practices, which has created a gap within the software risk domain. Successful risk management is essential for the achievement of software projects, and the findings from this study can offer insights for software development organizations to make informed decisions and improve project outcomes. By utilizing a quantitative approach and adapted questionnaires, this comprehensive study collected data from 60 practitioners and conducted descriptive analysis to identify key risk elements that have significant potential to affect project performance. The findings highlight these risk elements that can significantly impact project success. Agile methodologies, with their emphasis on collaboration, communication within teams, and engagement with stakeholders, including top management, are instrumental in aligning project objectives, identifying potential risks, and resolving issues promptly. This study provides empirical insights into the risk management practices of agile practitioners in Malaysia, which can equip software development organizations with valuable knowledge for informed decision‐making. By enhancing project outcomes and guiding future strategic actions, the findings of this study can contribute to the improvement of agile risk management in the software development industry, particularly in the Malaysian context.

A Classification of Cloud Services and Their Security Assessment in the Healthcare Industry

The role of cloud-based services in healthcare settings is crucial in the 21st century. This paper discusses their advantages and tools in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, categorizing existing applications and services into data storage, computing power, networking, PaaS, SaaS, data analytics, business intelligence, and project management. It also provides an in-depth analysis of security and risk assessment issues in cloud-based services, supported by case studies. Additionally, it includes a comparative risk analysis diagram of secured versus non-secured cloud systems in healthcare. Finally, the paper concludes with recommendations for future work. Historical Insights into Sustainable Development: Analyzing the Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Ancient Trade and Settlements

Ancient trade routes significantly influenced political structures, cultural exchanges, economic development, and landscape transformations across diverse regions. The Ancient Tea Horse Road, a prominent historical commercial pathway in China, is crucial for ecosystem and cultural heritage conservations. This study uses content and comparative analysis, Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, and spatial analysis to examine the spatiotemporal relationships between 13,026 settlement points identified via Google Earth and 445 recorded settlement names within the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The findings indicate that the Ancient Tea Horse Road evolved from a simple linear form to a complex radial network, reflecting its growth from local to broad regional connectivity. Settlements related to administrative, postal, and commercial functions emerged in its vicinity, underscoring the route’s impact on social structures and economic activities. The development of settlements, mainly within a 10 km radius of the route, was closely linked to its expansion, alteration, and decline, offering insights into contemporary settlement distribution patterns. This research not only enhances the understanding of the Ancient Tea Horse Road and its surrounding settlements but also supports the protection of ancient trade routes and their cultural heritage. It contributes to sustainable development by integrating ecological preservation with the safeguarding of ancient trade routes and their cultural legacies.

Design and Implementation of Time Point Approval and Dynamic Monitoring for Rural Illegal Occupation of Farmland for Constructing Houses

Abstract. The illegal occupation of farmland for building houses has impact not only on the land resources, but also the agricultural production, ecological environment, and food security. In order to protect farmland resources, maintain stable agricultural production activities and improve ecological environment, this paper designs and implements a time-point approval and dynamic monitoring solution and system for the problem of rural illegal occupation of farmland for constructing houses by comprehensively utilizing the satellite remote sensing technology (RS) and geographic information system technology (GIS). The result shows that the time-point approval and dynamic monitoring system can identify the illegal construction of houses accurately, thus this work can curb the generation of new illegal houses, and support the special governance of the construction of illegally occupied farmland effectively and continuously.

Improving care pathways through BPM and telemedicine: an Italian study

PurposeThe future increase of chronic diseases in the world requires new challenges in the health domain to improve patients' care from the point of view of the organizational processes, clinical pathways and technological solutions of digital health. For this reason, the present paper aims to focus on the study and application of well-known clinical practices and efficient organizational approaches through an innovative model (TALIsMAn) to support new care process redesign and digitalization for chronic patients.Design/methodology/approachIn addition to specific clinical models employed to manage chronic conditions such as the Population Health Management and Chronic Care Model, we introduce a Business Process Management methodology implementation supported by a set of e-health technologies, in order to manage Care Pathways (CPs) digitalization and procedures improvement.FindingsThis study shows that telemedicine services with advanced devices and technologies are not enough to provide significant changes in the healthcare sector if other key aspects such as health processes, organizational systems, interactions between actors and responsibilities are not considered and improved. Therefore, new clinical models and organizational approaches are necessary together with a deep technological change, otherwise, theoretical benefits given by telemedicine services, which often employ advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems and devices, may not be translated into effective enhancements. They are obtained not only through the implementation of single telemedicine services, but integrating them in a wider digital ecosystem, where clinicians are supported in different clinical steps they have to perform.Originality/valueThe present work defines a novel methodological framework based on organizational, clinical and technological innovation, in order to redesign the territorial care for people with chronic diseases. This innovative ecosystem applied in the Italian research project TALIsMAn is based on the concept of a continuum of care and digitalization of CPs supported by Business Process Management System and telemedicine services. The main goal is to organize the different socio-medical activities in a unique and integrated IT system that should be sustainable, scalable and replicable.

The Nexus of Quality Management and Construction Organisations' Performance in Urban Ghana: The Moderating Effect of Information Technology Integration

Effective quality management strategies improve and sustain organisations' competitiveness in the current business environment by incorporating information technology. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the moderating influence of information technology on the connection between quality management strategies and the performance of construction firms in Accra, Ghana. The study utilized a sample of 255 construction firms in the Accra- Metropolis. The data collected underwent analysis using inferential and descriptive statistics. The results indicated a favorable impact of quality management strategies on the performance of construction companies. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between the integration of information technology (IT) and the performance of construction firms. Nevertheless, there was an insignificant correlation of the moderator (information technology integration) on the link between quality management strategies and the performance of construction companies. This could be attributed to the absence of skills and expertise, as well as the absence of a modernized information technology system that integrates communication and quality management processes in construction organizations in Ghana. Subsequent studies should concentrate on the barriers to integrating IT into quality management processes in construction firms in developing nations.

This abstract explores strategies for leveraging Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to enhance scalability in small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) startups operating in the renewable energy sector. GIS technology offers a powerful framework for analyzing and visualizing spatial data, providing valuable insights into site selection, resource assessment, and infrastructure planning. By integrating GIS into their business models, startups can optimize operations, reduce costs, and accelerate growth. This review discusses various strategies for utilizing GIS technology, including market analysis, site suitability assessment, supply chain optimization, and infrastructure planning. Drawing on case studies and industry examples, this review highlights the effectiveness of GIS in enhancing scalability for renewable energy startups. It also addresses the challenges and limitations associated with GIS implementation, such as technical complexities, data accessibility, and cost considerations. Identifying the priority areas for ecological protection considering ecological connectivity and ecosystem integrity: A case study of Xianyang City, China

Identifying ecological protection priority areas (EPPAs) in municipal areas is essential for accurate ecological restoration and ensuring sustainable regional development. Xianyang represents a typical medium-sized city that is currently grappling with the dual challenges of ecological restoration and urban development. This study employed a multi-criteria method to evaluate ecological importance, considering both ecosystem services and ecological vulnerability. Based on this, ecological corridors and pinch points that enhance ecological connectivity were delineated using the circuit theory. Subsequently, the integrity of ecosystems is assessed from structural and functional perspectives to ensure their health and stability. With the support of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, the three important areas for ecological protection were integrated to designate EPPAs. The results showed that: (1) the extremely important area spans 1956.44 km2, primarily made up of forests and grasslands. (2) There were found to be 19 ecological sources, 26 ecological corridors, and 23 ecological pinch points. (3) With excellent ecosystem integrity, the region was dominated by eco-lands, which accounted for 2692.71 km2. (4) In the end, this study identified 3328.83 km2 of EPPAs, 32.65 % of the study area. These are primarily located in the northern mountains and major watersheds. Human activities are found as the most important factor for the overall spatial variations in the area. A multi-level framework was developed to establish a continuous, comprehensive, and systematic method for identifying EPPAs, thereby enhancing ecological restoration, protection, and the sustainable use of regional ecosystems.

Using cluster analysis to identify communities of interest for purposes of legislative redistricting: A case study of parishes in Louisiana

The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology has been found to limit the kinds of communities that can in principle achieve political representation through redistricting because the process excludes “communities of interest” (COIs) that cannot be mapped. We argue that these limits can be overcome using empirically based variables to define a COI in conjunction with an empirically based classification system, cluster analysis. Our argument is based on a case study of a legislative redistricting case in which we examined the cultural, economic, demographic, historic, and social characteristics upon which a COI would be defined. We employed an empirically and scientifically based classification system called “cluster analysis” to determine if these two geographically-separated groups of parishes form a single COI, which, in turn, would serve as a justification for them being placed together into reorganized congressional District 5. We find that East Carroll Parish and its six neighboring parishes (Franklin, Madison, Morehouse, Richland, Tensas, and West Carroll) are in a different COI grouping than East Baton Rouge Parish. Moreover, from the COI perspective, East Baton Rouge Parish should not be included in proposed plans involving a proposed RCD5 that include East Carroll Parish and its six neighboring parishes. This finding also applies to Lafayette Parish, both in whole and in part. This finding is not only relevant because COIs are important in redistricting, but it demonstrates that the limits identified in regard to the use of GIS-based technology in identifying COIs can be surmounted.

Unlock city-scale energy saving and peak load shaving potential of green roofs by GIS-informed urban building energy modelling

Urban green roofs have emerged as a significant trend in urban architecture worldwide, offering numerous benefits, including enhanced energy performance, improved urban microclimate, and public health. This study proposes a holistic framework for assessing the green roofs' energy-saving potential at the city scale, achieved by scaling up building-scale energy simulations to city-scale energy demands. Firstly, massive building information is collected using Geometric Information System (GIS) technologies. Subsequently, prototype buildings are generated to accurately represent the geometric characteristics of buildings at the city scale. Building performance simulation is further conducted considering three types of plants on roofs. A case study in Xiamen, China, demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed framework to efficiently quantify the city-scale energy-saving potential of green roofs. By implementing green roofs in Xiamen, energy savings of 1.62–1.83% and peak load shaving of 1.10–1.63% can be achieved for the whole city. Overall, the proposed framework has the potential for widespread application in other cities with minor adjustments to accommodate variations in climate and building parameters.

Quantification of soil erosion and sediment yield using the RUSLE model in Boyo watershed, central Rift Valley Basin of Ethiopia

Changes in land use and land cover (LULC) are becoming recognized as critical to sustainability research, particularly in the context of changing landscapes. Soil erosion is one of the most important environmental challenges today, particularly in developing countries like Ethiopia. The objective of this study was evaluating the dynamics of soil loss, quantifying sediment yield, and detecting soil erosion hotspot fields in the Boyo watershed. To quantify the soil erosion risks, the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model was used combined with remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technology, with land use/land cover, rainfall, soil, and management approaches as input variables. The sediment yield was estimated using the sediment delivery ratio (SDR) method. In contrast to a loss in forest land (1.7 %), water bodies (3.0 %), wetlands (1.5 %), and grassland (1.7 %), the analysis of LULC change (1991–2020) showed a yearly increase in the area of cultivated land (1.4 %), built-up land (0.8 %), and bare land (3.5 %). In 1991, 2000, and 2020, respectively, the watershed's mean annual soil loss increases by 15.5, 35.9, and 38.3 t/ha/y. Approximately 36 cm of the watershed's economically productive topsoil was lost throughout the study's twenty-nine-year period (1991–2020). According to the degree of erosion, 16 % of the watershed was deemed seriously damaged, while 70 % was deemed slightly degraded. Additionally, it is estimated for the year 2020 that 74,147.25 t/y of sediment (8.52 % of the total annual soil loss of 870,763.12 t) reach the Boyo watershed outlet. SW4 and SW5 were the two sub-watersheds with the highest erosion rates, requiring immediate conservation intervention to restore the ecology of the Boyo watershed.

A Sugeno ANFIS Model Based on Fuzzy Factor Analysis for IS/IT Project Portfolio Risk Prediction

Risk inherence jeopardises Information System (IS) and Information Technology (IT) Project Portfolio Management (PPM) to realise thestrategic objectives. Previous studies have mainly provided Artificial Intelligence (AI) and statistical models to predict the overall riskof IS/IT project portfolio, whereas neuro-fuzzy models were rarely used. This paper proposes a Sugeno Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy InferenceSystem (ANFIS) model based on Fuzzy Factor Analysis (FFA) named ANFIS-OPR to predict the overall risk of IS/IT project portfolio fromhistorical IS/IT project risk data. The ANFIS-OPR inputs are the relevant factor loadings resulting from the FFA application on the IS/IT projects risks set to cope with the curse of dimensionality. Then, the Sugeno ANFIS model is adopted to give strategic interpretability to the predicted IS/IT project portfolio overall risk by implementing the IS/IT Project Management Office (PMO) expert knowledge, represented by fuzzy rules, on the relationship between IS/IT project portfolio strategic alignment and the IS/IT projects risks. The ANFISOPR outputs are the predicted Overall Portfolio Risk (OPR) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The paper also presents an IS/IT PMO case study that shows the proposed ANFIS-OPR efficacy, which predicted the OPR values closely to the OPR estimates with an accepted RMSE of 0.108. The proposed ANFIS-OPR is a novel intelligent decision-making tool that enables the IS/IT PMO to monitor the OPR, considering its linkage with strategic alignment; thus, contingency plans can be carried out appropriately while ensuring that the IS/IT project portfolio is strategically aligned.

The Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure of the Multicenter Archipelago of Ovarian Cancer Research Biobank: A Potential Blueprint for Other Biobanks.

Objective: Biobanks play a crucial role in fundamental and translational research by storing valuable biomaterials and data for future analyses. However, the design of their information technology (IT) infrastructures is often customized to specific requirements, thereby lacking the ability to be used for biobanks comprising other (types of) diseases. This results in substantial costs, time, and efforts for each new biobank project. The Dutch multicenter Archipelago of Ovarian Cancer Research (AOCR) biobank has developed an innovative, reusable IT infrastructure capable of adaptation to various biobanks, thereby enabling cost-effective and efficient implementation and management of biobank IT systems. Methods and Results: The AOCR IT infrastructure incorporates preexisting biobank software, mainly managed by Health-RI. The web-based registration tool Ldot is used for secure storage and pseudonymization of patient data. Clinicopathological data are retrieved from the Netherlands Cancer Registry and the Dutch nationwide pathology databank (Palga), both established repositories, reducing administrative workload and ensuring high data quality. Metadata of collected biomaterials are stored in the OpenSpecimen system. For digital pathology research, a hematoxylin and eosin-stained slide from each patient's tumor is digitized and uploaded to Slide Score. Furthermore, adhering to the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles, genomic data derived from the AOCR samples are stored in cBioPortal. Conclusion: The IT infrastructure of the AOCR biobank represents a new standard for biobanks, offering flexibility to handle diverse diseases and types of biomaterials. This infrastructure bypasses the need for disease-specific, custom-built software, thereby being cost- and time-effective while ensuring data quality and legislative compliance. The adaptability of this infrastructure highlights its potential to serve as a blueprint for the development of IT infrastructures in both new and existing biobanks.

Remote sensing estimation of regional PM2.5 based on GTWR model -A case study of southwest China

Air pollution in China has becoming increasingly serious in recent years with frequent incidents of smog. Parts of southwest China still experience high incidents of smog, with PM2.5 (particulate matter with diameter ≤2.5 μm) being the main contributor. Establishing the spatial distribution of PM2.5 in Southwest China is important for safeguarding regional human health, environmental quality, and economic development. This study used remote sensing (RS) and geographical information system (GIS) technologies and aerosol optical depth (AOD), digital elevation model (DEM), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), population density, and meteorological data from January to December 2018 for southwest China. PM2.5 concentrations were estimated using ordinary least squares regression (OLS), geographic weighted regression (GWR) and geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR). The results showed that: (1) Eight influencing factors showed different correlations to PM2.5 concentrations. However, the R2 values of the correlations all exceeded 0.3, indicating a moderate degree of correlation or more; (2) The correlation R2 values between the measured and remote sensed estimated PM2.5 data by OLS, GWR, and GTWR were 0.554, 0.713, and 0.801, respectively; (3) In general, the spatial distribution of PM2.5 in southwest of China decreases from the Northeast to Northwest, with moderate concentrations in the Southeast and Southwest; (4) The seasonal average PM2.5 concentration is high in winter, low in summer, and moderate in spring and autumn, whereas the monthly average shows a “V” -shaped oscillation change.

Assessing groundwater quality in semi-arid conditions: a geographic information systems-integrated approach using water quality index

Meeting freshwater demands in water-scarce regions is imperative, given challenges like hydric stress, urbanization, aridity, and population growth. This study focuses on the Tebessa aquifer system, a critical water source facing escalating demands. A primary objective is to identify actionable management strategies to improve groundwater quality dynamics in semi-arid regions. The methodology involves a comprehensive assessment of groundwater health using the Water Quality Index (WQI) approach. This method integrates diverse parameters influenced by intensive agricultural and industrial activities. Additionally, spatial relationship analysis, facilitated by Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, is employed to gain insights into complex hydrogeological processes. The multi-parameter strategy implemented results in water quality maps that highlight various ions, revealing spatial disparities and assigning quality priority classes from 'Good' to 'Poor' across the groundwater. The research, conducted in the semi-arid Tebessa-Morsott Plain, encompasses field and laboratory investigations to delineate hydrochemical traits, including alkalinity, salinity, and heightened ion concentrations. The results of the study contribute to scientific understanding by uncovering interrelationships and spatial intricacies, offering valuable insights for water resource governance. The effectiveness of the methodology, incorporating WQI and GIS, is demonstrated in the comprehensive evaluation of groundwater quality. Ultimately, this research provides a foundation for informed decision-making and sustainable management of groundwater resources in semi-arid regions.

ANALYSIS OF THE INTEGRATIVE APPROACH TO TAM AND UGT THEORY ON DIGILIB APPLICATION USERS

Information Systems Technology is an asset for an organization, if managed well it will provide added value for competition, as well as increasing the possibility of success for a business, therefore information systems must be managed well. STIAMAK Barunawati Surabaya College of Administration and Port Management also uses information systems technology (SIAKAD) to improve the quality of education and services in higher education, one of which is the digital library application (DIGILIB) for STIAMAK Surabaya students using the Technology Acceptance approach. Model (TAM) and “uses and gratifications theory” (UGT). The purpose of this research is to analyze individuals' intentions to use DIGILIB technology by referring to factors such as user perceptions of usability, ease of use, and other factors related to technology. The method used in this research is quantitative, with a total of 69 students responding using a Likert scale questionnaire and structural equation model (SEM) analysis techniques based on partial least squares (PLS). The results of this research show that there are three significant hypotheses, namely 1) Behavioral intention which mediates the relationship between Ritualized Use and Use Behavior, 2) Ritualized Use has a significant and positive effect on Behavior Intention, and 3) Behavioral intention has a significant and positive effect on use behavior

Changes In Greenness Level In PT Arumin Indonesia's RPT NPLCT Area With Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)

The observation focused on PT Arutmin Indonesia's NPLCT RPT area of 98 hectares. These observations are viewed with the help of remote sensing technology and geographic information systems (GIS). This observation aims to analyze changes in greenness levels that occur from 2019 to 2023 using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) method and the materials used sentinel-2A imagery. The goal is to evaluate changes in greenness levels and their interpolation from 2019 to 2023. An area of 98 hectares was monitored using sentinel-2A satellite imagery with a pixel sharpness of 10 meters x 10 meters. The results show sentinel imagery from 2019 to 2020, 38.41 ha experienced reforestation, 1.65 ha experienced deforestation and 58.14 ha did not change. Sentinel-2A image from 2020 to 2021, 79.09 ha experienced reforestation, 1.35 ha experienced deforestation and 17.68 ha did not change. Sentinel-2A image from 2021 to 2022, 1.08 ha experienced reforestation, 79.48 ha experienced deforestation and 17.68 ha did not change. Sentinel-2A imagery from 2022 to 2023, 0.47 ha experienced reforestation, 40.65 ha experienced deforestation and 57.17 ha did not change. The sentinel-2A image changes from 2019 to 2023, 2.27 ha reforested, 20.35 ha deforested and 75.64. These observations highlight the importance of remote sensing technology and geographic information systems (GIS) in monitoring and analyzing land cover change to support conservation, rehabilitation and natural resource management policies in Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan.
