Inclusive Entrepreneurship in Handling Competing Institutional Logics for DHIS2 Adoption in Ethiopian Public Health Care Context

Information System (IS) research advocates employing collaborative and loose coupling strategies to address contradictory issues to address diversified actors’ interests than the prescriptive and unilateral Information Technology (IT) governance mechanisms’, yet it is rarely depicting how managers employ these strategies in Health Information System (HIS) implementation, particularly in a resource-constrained setting where IS implementation activities have highly relied on multiple international organizations resources. This study explored how managers in resource-constrained settings employ collaborative IT governance mechanisms in the case of District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) adoption with an interpretative case study approach and the institutional logic concept. The institutional logic concept was used to identify the major actors’ logics underpinning the DHIS2 adoption. The study depicted the importance of high-level officials' distance from the dominant systemic logic to consider new alternative, and to employ inclusive IT governance mechanisms which separated resource from the system that facilitated stakeholders’ collaboration in DHIS2 adoption based on their capacity and interest.

Meeting the challenge: Health information technology's essential role in achieving precision medicine.

Precision medicine can revolutionize health care by tailoring treatments to individual patient needs. Advancing precision medicine requires evidence development through research that combines needed data, including clinical data, at an unprecedented scale. Widespread adoption of health information technology (IT) has made digital clinical data broadly available. These data and information systems must evolve to support precision medicine research and delivery. Specifically, relevant health IT data, infrastructure, clinical integration, and policy needs must be addressed. This article outlines those needs and describes work the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is leading to improve health IT through pilot projects and standards and policy development. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will build on these efforts and continue to coordinate with other key stakeholders to achieve the vision of precision medicine. Advancement of precision medicine will require ongoing, collaborative health IT policy and technical initiatives that advance discovery and transform healthcare delivery.

Motorized Vehicle Security System With Master And Slave Key Models

Indonesian are carrying out routines both for personal gain, groups can use a variety of transportation in land, sea and air. Kinds of transportation that are available in the middle of the community that is affordable to have, are vehicles both two-wheeled and four-wheeled. The tendency of motorized vehicles to increase due to various factors including more economical compared to other transportation, simplify and speed up the duration of the trip, encourage the economy of the motorcycle taxi online or traditional. In the midst of people enjoying transportation, there are threats made by certain elements who take advantage of the owner’s carelessness and of course the security weaknesses of the vehicle. The threat that occurs is motor vehicle thief. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency for motor vehicle theft in Indonesia in January 2016 was 3,468 cases, February 3,595 cases, March 3,518 cases), meaning that in 2016 for three months as many as 10,581 people were disadvantaged because of the crimes. Di era industrial revolution 4.0 marked the massive implementation of information technology in all fields including transportation. Collaboration of information technology with the field of automation, in this case the workshop can create new innovations in securing motor vehicles so that they are not vulnerable to deception. The innovation is SIKEMO, works based on inputs known by the sensor, if the sensor recognizes the input data, the process can be continued and the motor can be used (starter is on status), and vice versa if the sensor does not recognize the input data, then SIKEMO will reject and of course the vehicle cannot be used ( starter in the off status). The Security System developed at SIKEMO uses data input with two models, namely the master key and the slave key. The master key input data has the highest authority besides being recognized by SIKEMO, the master key can be used to grant access rights to the slave key to be recognized by the SIKEMO security system. To support the work of SIKEMO which is equipped with a master and slave key, some hardware including arduino which is programmed to select whether the input data is known or not. RFID as a sensor media that connects the input data (master and slave key) with Arduino. To integrate the existing hardware and software in SIKEMO, the process uses a prototype software development methodology

The nonlinear influence of harmonious information technology affordance on organisational innovation

AbstractIn this study, we investigate the nature of the influence of organisational information technology (IT) on innovation. To examine this relationship, we leverage a fundamental construct: harmonious IT affordance (HITA). HITA is defined as the degree of coalignment between three salient organisational IT affordances, each of which allows an organisation to carry out its most fundamental functions using IT—collaboration, maintenance of organisational memory, and management of organisational processes. We theorize that HITA has a quadratic (U‐shaped) effect on innovation. Our theory proposes that when IT affordances increasingly co‐align (reflected by increasing HITA), the organisation enters a synergistic, virtuous phase that encourages innovation. Counterintuitively, the increasing misalignment of IT affordances can also result in organisational innovation via creative dissonance, which enables organisations to look for opportunities in the presence of misalignment and leverage it to create a synergistic virtuous cycle. We conducted two empirical studies—one with high‐level IT executives knowledgeable about innovation and one with sales and business development executives (who market innovations) knowledgeable about IT—that corroborate our theory. Crucially, if the IT affordances are unrelated (low coalignment, where HITA is close to zero), then innovation does not take place. We thus surmise that the relation between HITA and innovation is quadratic.

The Transformation of the Innovation Process: How Digital Tools are Changing Work, Collaboration, and Organizations in New Product Development*

Over the past several decades, digitization has invaded all areas of human activity, including innovation. The result of digitization of existing tools for design and collaboration, and the introduction of entirely new digital tools, is a far more substantive change of innovation than previous generations of tools enabled. It affects not only the quality of the output and speed of its generation, but it affects the innovation work itself, changes work content, collaboration patterns, decision authority, organizational set‐ups, governance structures, firm boundaries, and ultimately entire ecosystems.In this paper, the digitization of New Product Development (NPD), a subset of innovation, is studied to pursue two research questions: (1) How has the digital tool landscape in NPD changed over the past 15 years, and (2) how have these changes affected how firms innovate?This research uses a longitudinal multi‐method, qualitative approach to deep dive into actual use cases of digital design tools such as computer‐aided design CAD and new tools such as collaborative information technology (CIT). The changes in these tools and observations into how these tools are transforming the very nature of how things are designed is the research focus of this study.These tools have become increasingly more sophisticated while being easier to use and are integrated earlier in the design process. As a result, digital tools have a far broader reaching impact than previous generation of tools. Not only do they affect output and process efficiency, but they also increase depth and breadth of the work of individual innovators, they lead to rearrangement of the entire innovation processes, enable new configurations of people, teams, and firms, and rewrite the rules on how knowledge management acts as a critical competitive capability. The progression of digitization is laying the groundwork for changes to what firms are and do and points to different ways of organizing, specializing, and training for NPD professionals.

'Is the Time Right Now?'

Temporal coordination endures as a central topic in computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) because information systems still struggle to adequately support varying representations of time in the context of collaborations that areboth temporally and geographically dispersed. Moreover, the adaptive practices of these broadly dispersed groups are still not well understood. We ask:How do globally distributed teams temporally coordinate to accomplish their work? We examine an extreme case of online temporal coordination: high-tempo information curation about the urgent humanitarian crisis following the 2017 Hurricane Maria landfall in Puerto Rico. Our analysis of synchronous chat transcripts and data artifacts produced by The Standby Task Force reveals how this digital humanitarian group establishes temporal coordination through different shared understandings of time relative to the crisis, the globally distributed work, and the collaborative information technologies. We make four contributions from our analysis: First, we developed a pluritemporal analytical framework that describes different forms of socially constructed time and disambiguates their meaning in talk. Next, we present empirical evidence of how this distributed team establishes shared temporal orders to collectively orient their work in time. Then, we describe how they reconcile multiple and conflicting instances of sociotemporal "disorder'' to enable productive work. Last, we reflect on the design implications for collaborative information systems informed by this work.

Marketing Strategy Using Collaboration of Information Technology and Market Place

The research goal is firstly finding good strategy for online marketing using social media and market place and the second is to find dominant variables which drive consumer to purchase product from online marketing. This study uses descriptive analysis method. Social Media is one of powerful tool for marketing the product but the nature of social media is a chatting media or open publish news. Only people who are connecting as a member of friend of social media can get the information and sometimes abundantly information can cover and lose the important information. On the other side, market place familiar as virtual shop which is small business can make many virtual shops with many offering products. However, marketplace need tools to direct people to it. One virtual shop has to compete globally to hundreds virtual shop in marketing and promoting the shop and its product. The result show in the online marketing strategy there are found three dominant variables found in this research. They are a) becoming liker b) automatic broadcast message by twitter which is scheduled based on target activity and c) direct message including communication to user om Instagram. From the result can be concluded that the repetitive of ads using twitter give more better strategy in online purchasing.

TRANSLATOR Database—A Vision for a Multi-Institutional Research Network

The formation of the CTSI One Health Alliance (COHA) network has generated the infrastructure necessary to support “Big Data” collaborative comparative and translational research in veterinary medicine. We describe the first step in the design, implementation, and dissemination of a collaborative information technology infrastructure that will serve the public and clinicians (COHA public/member based web site at https://ctsaonehealthalliance.org/) and its research focused COHA Research Workbench application. The core research infrastructure, TRANSLATOR (TRanslational ANimal Shared ColLAboraTive Observational Research), represents the foundation of a federated research-capable network to enable pooling large datasets from both electronic health records and publications. The public facing COHA website is a mechanism for both the dissemination of knowledge to the public and to foster collaborations amongst veterinary clinician scientists and the greater medical research community.

The Influence of Collaborative Information Technology Tool Usage on NPD

AbstractInformation Technology (IT) and the process of new product development (NPD) have become completely intertwined. From computer-aided-design (CAD) to video conferencing to traditional tools like email, the act of design, iterating and communicating with team members is touched at every point in the process by IT. Over the last ten years, new, collaborative information technology (CIT) has entered into the NPD process to make the activity of communication and team information sharing easier, more frequent, and distributed. What is not known is how these tools are influencing the design process itself. This research uses a longitudinal multi-method, ethnographic approach to deep dive into actual use cases. Our results indicate that CIT can have a substantial impact on NPD, but does not automatically alleviate traditional problems during NPD. We also find that the propagation of tools via new firms startups has developed a single tool per task paradigm, which is counter to the development of complex platforms offered by established firms. These single use tools are easily adopted but also easily discarded by development teams.

Role of Health Information Technology in Addressing Health Disparities: Patient, Clinician, and System Perspectives.

Over the last decade, health information technology (IT) has dramatically transformed medical practice in the United States. On May 11-12, 2017, the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, in partnership with the National Science Foundation and the National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved, convened a scientific workshop, "Addressing Health Disparities with Health Information Technology," with the goal of ensuring that future research guides potential health IT initiatives to address the needs of health disparities populations. The workshop examined patient, clinician, and system perspectives on the potential role of health IT in addressing health disparities. Attendees were asked to identify and discuss various health IT challenges that confront underserved communities and propose innovative strategies to address them, and to involve these communities in this process. Community engagement, cultural competency, and patient-centered care were highlighted as key to improving health equity, as well as to promoting scalable, sustainable, and effective health IT interventions. Participants noted the need for more research on how health IT can be used to evaluate and address the social determinants of health. Expanding public-private partnerships was emphasized, as was the importance of clinicians and IT developers partnering and using novel methods to learn how to improve health care decision-making. Finally, to advance health IT and promote health equity, it will be necessary to record and capture health disparity data using standardized terminology, and to continuously identify system-level deficiencies and biases.

Digital transformation of pharmacists’ clinical services

ObjectivesThis article discusses the technology and business transformation of electronically collecting, documenting, and sharing pharmacists’ clinical services. The article discusses the current landscape of pharmacy management systems as it pertains to pharmacy practice and to identify opportunities, benefits, and challenges for pharmacists as providers. SummaryPharmacists providing clinical services are in the midst of transforming the practice of pharmacy. From a technology standpoint, pharmacy operations must digitally transform their practices to keep up with the rest of health care. Today’s pharmacies do a great job of electronically standardizing the prescription dispensing and billing processes; we need to rethink how to document clinical services in a way that makes sense to pharmacists. Digitally transforming pharmacy clinical workflow to fully integrate pharmacist-provided clinical data using nationally recognized standards is not an easy task for pharmacy system vendors. Pharmacy management systems are based on prescription-dispensing process or propriety clinical documentation functions designed to meet customers’ or payers’ needs. The government and quality-setting organizations play an important role driving digital transformation. ConclusionThe Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (JCPP) Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process standardized the pharmacists’ clinical workflow steps, and it is used as the cornerstone for standardizing pharmacists’ electronic clinical workflow within pharmacy systems. Since its founding in 2010, Pharmacy Health Information Technology Collaborative (PHIT) members understood the need to digitally transform pharmacy management systems from prescription focus and build awareness of standardizing pharmacist-provided clinical services and outcomes through the use of the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine—Clinical Terms and the Pharmacist eCare Plan. The technology is now available for sharing clinical data. Pharmacists and pharmacy operations will need to transform their business models by adopting technology standards outlined in this article to keep up with the rest of the health care industry.

The mediating role of supply chain collaboration on the relationship between information technology and innovation

PurposeThe high level of competition in the globalized business environment forces companies to innovate to remain competitive. Previous literature often cites information technology (IT) and supply chain collaboration as direct contributors to product innovation and IT as a direct enabler of supply chain collaboration. This suggests that IT could have an indirect effect on product innovation through supply chain collaboration, although this relationship has not been addressed yet. This paper aims to analyze empirically the direct impacts of IT and supply chain collaboration on incremental and radical product innovation and the indirect effect of IT on both types of product innovation through supply chain collaboration by using data collected from a sample of 200 manufacturing firms.Design/methodology/approachStructural equation modeling was used to check the research hypotheses with a sample of 200 manufacturing companies.FindingsThe results show supply chain collaboration has a positive effect on technological innovation, showing that the collaboration with external agents foster both incremental and radical innovations. Furthermore, results show that IT directly enhances both types of product innovation (incremental and radical) indirectly through supply chain collaboration.Research limitations/implicationsThis article supports the pursuit of open innovation that suggests the need to acquire external knowledge to be able to develop innovation projects. The use of tools that facilitate this transmission of knowledge becomes indispensable in environments in which companies must be involved in supply chains in which different external agents intervene and in which collaboration can promote the creation of synergies and superior competitive advantages.Practical implicationsInnovation requires more and more the use of knowledge management practices that capture external information to be used in the creation of new products. In this case, collaboration within a supply chain facilitates incremental and radical innovations. However, to strengthen this transfer of information and the adoption of behaviors that stimulate innovation, the company must use ITs.Originality/valueThis paper focus on the indirect effect of IT on product innovation through the creation of the collaborations with external agents. In spite of the importance of this relation, it has been poorly studied by previous literature. The paper’s greatest interest lies in the fact that ITs not only facilitate the transmission of knowledge but also facilitate other types of behavior among supply chain agents that invite collaboration and generate innovations.

Application for Final Project Collaboration and Management in School of Applied Science, Telkom University

The final project is the last stage of the students to complete the lecture. In accordance with academic rules at Telkom University allow final project work done in groups. This is to improve results more complex than the results of the final project obtained individually. But there are problems faced by students and lecturers who join the final project team, which is how to work on the final project together and monitoring the progress of each student in the team. This is due to differences in location and time in work. On the lecturer, side finds constraints that are how to be able to monitor the progress of each team member in detail. In this paper proposed a solution to overcome the problem is to apply for collaborative information technology support. The collaborative method used the Kanban's method, where each work will be divided into small parts that can be done together. Application for Final Project Collaboration and Management in School of Applied Science Telkom University was developed with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Prototype method using PHP programming scripts and MySQL database. This application will manage the final project, especially in groups, facilitating the final project team to define all parts of the work of each team member who can collaborate with each other and communicate in each job. Lecturers as project supervisors can participate in collaborations and discussions in every work.

Global dispersion of offshore service providers: an information processing perspective

Purpose This paper aims to propose a new theoretical perspective on the organizational design of offshoring service organizations by adopting an information processing perspective which incorporates the factors of collaborative information technologies, task commoditization and global customer service delivery that are characteristic of modern-day knowledge-intensive service (KIS) organizations. Design/methodology/approach The authors analyze data from a large multiyear survey of offshoring service providers conducted in 12 countries. Findings The authors show how use of collaborative technology is significantly and positively related to spatial and configurational dispersion, task commoditization is significantly and positively related to spatial and temporal dispersion and need for global customer presence is not related to spatial, temporal or configurational dispersion. Research limitations/implications The paper integrates concepts from management information system (MIS), operations management and international business to show how collaborative technology, task characteristics and customer service requirements affect the global dispersion of KISs. Practical implications The results show how use of collaborative technology, task characteristics and global customer service requirements need to be jointly considered in the global dispersion of activities by KIS providers. Originality/value The study sheds light on the effect of the key factors on different dimensions of global dispersion (i.e. spatial/temporal/configurational dispersion) in offshoring service provider organizations. Second, it shows how the traditional information processing perspective on organizations can be updated and applied to KIS organizations by incorporating the factors of global collaborative information technologies, task commoditization and global customer service.

The 2012 London Olympics: innovations in ICT and social media marketing

The 2012 London Olympics was a technological and marketing watershed event in the history of live sport mega events. A case study of the 2012 London Olympics was used to demonstrate how effective management of innovations in (a) collaborative information and communication technology (ICT) and (b) social media marketing (SMM) ushered in a new platform template for live sport events worldwide. A review of the literature revealed four primary factors responsible: (1) the foresight, planning, due diligence, and management effectiveness of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and their technology partners; (2) the confluence of dramatically increased mobile device use and social media engagement by prosumers; (3) the willingness of sponsors, marketers, and global media enterprises to take risks with innovative media and SMM strategies; and (4) the enthusiasm and passion for sport of prosumers worldwide.

A Survey on Mobile Social Signal Processing

Understanding human behavior in an automatic but nonintrusive manner is an important area for various applications. This requires the collaboration of information technology with human sciences to transfer existing knowledge of human behavior into self-acting tools. These tools will reduce human error that is introduced by current obtrusive methods such as questionnaires. To achieve unobtrusiveness, we focus on exploiting the pervasive and ubiquitous character of mobile devices. In this article, a survey of existing techniques for extracting social behavior through mobile devices is provided. Initially, we expose the terminology used in the area and introduce a concrete architecture for social signal processing applications on mobile phones, constituted by sensing , social interaction detection , behavioral cues extraction , social signal inference, and social behavior understanding . Furthermore, we present state-of-the-art techniques applied to each stage of the process. Finally, potential applications are shown while arguing about the main challenges of the area.

The Influence of Collaborative IT Tools on NPD

OVERVIEW:Information technology (IT) is the cornerstone of the modern new product development (NPD) process. A new generation of communication and collaboration tools has propagated into nearly all aspects of NPD. To better understand how these collaborative tools, such as wikis, cloud-based file sharing, social networking, blogs, and microblogging platforms like Twitter, are being used in NPD and what influence they have on NPD outcomes, we undertook a global study of collaborative IT tool use in 443 firms. We found that the usage frequency of these collaborative tools is currently low, but it is positively correlated with project performance. Our results also show that the best-performing projects use all of these tools more intensively than poorer-performing projects. In addition, the usage frequency of these tools differentiated the best from the rest in smaller and medium-sized firms but not in larger firms. Our findings suggest that NPD managers should encourage the use of new forms of communication and collaboration and should embolden and empower the migration toward these collaborative tools. On Information Technology Competencies for Collaborative Organizational Structures

There is an uptake of organizations involvement in collaborative organizational structures (COS). As the nature and level of information technology (IT) investment in COS will be similar, the COS IT competencies will leverage the IT investments to create the collaborative rent generating potential of the COS, which would then improve the business value of the COS members. Consistent with the resource-centric views of the firm, we suggest that the COS members need to contribute their managed IT competencies to their COS, whose synergies would create COS IT competencies. We suggest three key IT competencies for COS; proactive top management decision synergy, collaborative and agile IT infrastructure, and cross-functional tactical management synergy. Using survey data, we find evidence of a positive association between these COS IT competencies and the collaborative rent generating potential of the COS. We also find a positive association between the collaborative rent generating potential of the COS and the business value of the COS members. The results suggest that developing COS IT competencies add value to a COS and its members. This study provides guidance for organizations looking to leverage their involvement in a COS.

Positioning a Paediatric Compounded Non-Sterile Product Electronic Repository (pCNPeRx) within the Health Information Technology Infrastructure.

Numerous gaps in the current medication use system impede complete transmission of electronically identifiable and standardized extemporaneous formulations as well as a uniform approach to medication therapy management (MTM) for paediatric patients. The Pharmacy Health Information Technology Collaborative (Pharmacy HIT) identified six components that may have direct importance for pharmacy related to medication use in children. This paper will discuss key positions within the information technology infrastructure (HIT) where an electronic repository for the medication management of paediatric patients’ compounded non-sterile products (pCNP) and care provision could be housed optimally to facilitate and maintain transmission of e-prescriptions (eRx) from initiation to fulfillment. Further, the paper will propose key placement requirements to provide for maximal interoperability of electronic medication management systems to minimize disruptions across the continuum of care.
