Factors Influencing E-learning Adoption when Teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Disciplines at a Science and Technology University in Ethiopia

eLearning technology in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instruction may positively impact the quality of education in preparing a competent 21st-century workforce in developing countries. Adopting eLearning technology in higher education institutions' STEM departments in developing countries is critical in allowing its graduates to compete in the global workforce. Information technology integration into STEM disciplines in higher education in developing countries may have two purposes: course access and technology skill development. Training this labor force with skills to use eLearning integrated into STEM disciplines increases their technical competencies. However, using eLearning to teach STEM disciplines in higher education institutes in developing countries still needs improvement. Understanding the factors influencing eLearning adoption and use is critical to understanding this phenomenon. This case study explored factors influencing eLearning adoption when teaching STEM disciplines. The study occurred at a mid-sized science and technology university in Ethiopia. A qualitative research approach examined how faculty members describe factors influencing eLearning technology adoption and use in the STEM departments on campus: the data collection method combined semi-structured individual interviews, focused group interviews, and document reviews. Seven faculty members and department heads participated in the personal interviews, and three participated in focus group interviews. An inductive method was used to analyze data collected from participants. Five themes emerged from qualitative data analysis: nature of the course, technology, institution, user's attitude, and environment. Challenges related to technology infrastructure, lack of training and technical support, the course nature, and lack of eCurriculum design were significant factors in adopting and using eLearning. The concerted effort of stakeholders, specifically faculty members, institutional leaders, and technical support teams, to adopt and use eLearning in STEM instruction positively impacts the quality of education in preparing a competent 21st-century workforce in developing countries.

Teachers’ Views on the Integration of Information and Communication Technology in the Teaching of Slovene (First Language) in Primary School

<p style="text-align:justify">Information and Communication Technology (ICT) brings modern learning approaches, forms and methods to education, and with them new opportunities for learning and teaching. The use of ICT in the classroom motivates students, enables them to participate, provides individualisation and differentiation, interactivity, and encourages creativity and critical thinking. Teachers play a very important role in this, as they are the ones who can provide students with a stimulating learning environment, including through the use of ICT. As Slovene (first language) is the subject with the most teaching hours in public primary schools in the Republic of Slovenia, we conducted an empirical study on the views of general and subject teachers of Slovene (N = 190) on the integration of information and communication technology in teaching. Teachers’ opinions were investigated through quantitative research. We found that teachers frequently use ICT in Slovene lessons, namely for repeating and consolidating learning material and for presenting new learning material, and that ICT is used most often in frontal forms of learning. Teachers mostly use LCD projectors, computers, interactive whiteboards, e-workbooks, audio recordings and videos. We also found that teachers are moderately satisfied with the available ICT equipment and e-materials, and that they feel moderately competent when it comes to using ICT in Slovene lessons. Teachers also used ICT during the COVID-19 epidemic. We also found that there are no statistically significant differences in the use of ICT between teachers teaching Slovene according to their teaching level, age and years of service.</p>

Systematic Literature Review of Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management has become crucial in company development and competition since the late 20th century. The article provides a transparent definition of Supply Chain Management by examining the body of literature. It also explores the current state of research in Supply Chain Management and identifies potential areas for future research in forthcoming articles. The article analyzes the influential research of Supply Chain Management using various criteria, including disciplines, journals, countries, and authors' keywords. The analysis was based on a dataset of 76,493 articles obtained from the Elsevier and Springer databases between 2012 and 2022. The results reveal predominant involvement in disciplines such as Environmental Science (13,288; 17.37%), Medicine & Public Health (10,396; 13.59%), and Business & Management (8,498; 11.11%). The terms "Sustainability," "Green Supply Chain Management," and "Sustainable Supply Chain Management" underscore the shift towards integrating environmental concerns within Supply Chain Management, reflecting its growing significance in bolstering both operational efficiency and sustainability. The Systematic Literature Review further identifies a rapid integration of information technology into Supply Chain Management, indicating a crucial pivot towards digital solutions in managing supply chains more effectively.

A Research on University Students’ Behavioral Intention to Use New-generation Information Technology in Intelligent Foreign Language Learning

A better understanding of how advancement in science and technology affect students’ learning behavior in an academic setting can help all educators in higher education. With the advancement of science and technology, the new-generation information technology represented by “Cloud Computing, Big Data, Internet of Things, Mobile Network, and Artificial Intelligence” has been profoundly changing the form of education, accelerating the transformation from Teaching 1.0 to Learning 2.0. To investigate the factors influencing university students using a new-generation information technology in intelligent foreign language learning, this study proposed a research model based on Technology Acceptance Model. The sample data were collected from a survey of 237 students at a university. The analysis of structural equation modeling indicated that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, construction of foreign language intelligence classroom, and computer self-efficacy all have a positive impact on learners’ behavioral intention. These findings suggest that more emphasis should be laid on students’ learning characteristics, advantages of a new generation of technology, as well as teachers’ intelligent literacy, to further promote the deep integration of the new-generation information technology and intelligent foreign language learning, improving the learning effectiveness ultimately and effectively.

Enhancing Physical Activity Through Information Technology: Current Trends and Future Directions

The potential for using information technology to improve physical activities covers a large scope. The integration of information technology has impacted almost every aspect of our lives in the dynamic modern world, transforming not only how we work and communicate but also how we interact with one another and with physical activities. This study aims is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current trends in the use of information technology (IT) to promote and enhance physical activity. This study utilized randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, observation, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses with a bibliometric approach in the context of a literature review. The researcher looked through many electronic databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, PsycINFO, Elsevier, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library, to find studies that fit the title. They chose sixty (60) papers for this study, and thirty-six (36) of them were analyzed in detail and met the requirements checklist to find and combine studies published in English between 2015 and 2023 that met the review criteria.

Information Communication and Technology Resource Availability and Integration in Instruction among Secondary Schools in Habaswein Sub-county

Incorporation of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in learning has been established as crucial for enabling teachers to replace traditional methods of teaching with technology-enabled education facilities. In Kenya, under vision 2030, ICT is deemed to be among the key elements essential for transforming the nation’s development. The Ministry of Education, through the Education Blue print dated 2013-2025, highlights the essence of technology-aided teaching and learning in the school’s national curriculum. This study aims to examine the availability of instructional ICT resources in government secondary schools in Habaswein sub-county Descriptive survey design was employed in this study. The study targeted nine secondary schools in the region. Piloting of study was carried out in Sarif Mixed Day Secondary School within Habaswein Sub-County. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews and questionnaire to allow the respondents present their unbound views about the issue being explored. The qualitative data collected was analyzed using thematic data analysis method while quantitative data obtained was analyzed using SPSS. The study concludes that information communication and technology resource availability has a significant association (r = 0.644, p<.001) with ICT integration in instructions. The study recommends for provision of adequate ICT resources for effective ICT integration in in instructions in public secondary schools in Habaswein Sub- County.

A Provably Secure Anonymous Authentication Protocol for Consumer and Service Provider Information Transmissions in Smart Grids

Smart grids integrate information technology, decision support systems, communication networks, and sensing technologies. All these components cooperate to facilitate dynamic power adjustments based on received client consumption reports. Although this brings forth energy efficiency, the transmission of sensitive data over the public internet exposes these networks to numerous attacks. To this end, numerous security solutions have been presented recently. Most of these techniques deploy conventional cryptographic systems such as public key infrastructure, blockchains, and physically unclonable functions that have either performance or security issues. In this paper, a fairly efficient authentication scheme is developed and analyzed. Its formal security analysis is carried out using the Burrows–Abadi–Needham (BAN) logic, which shows that the session key negotiated is provably secure. We also execute a semantic security analysis of this protocol to demonstrate that it can resist typical smart grid attacks such as privileged insider, guessing, eavesdropping, and ephemeral secret leakages. Moreover, it has the lowest amount of computation costs and relatively lower communication overheads as well as storage costs.

The Nexus of Quality Management and Construction Organisations' Performance in Urban Ghana: The Moderating Effect of Information Technology Integration

Effective quality management strategies improve and sustain organisations' competitiveness in the current business environment by incorporating information technology. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the moderating influence of information technology on the connection between quality management strategies and the performance of construction firms in Accra, Ghana. The study utilized a sample of 255 construction firms in the Accra- Metropolis. The data collected underwent analysis using inferential and descriptive statistics. The results indicated a favorable impact of quality management strategies on the performance of construction companies. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between the integration of information technology (IT) and the performance of construction firms. Nevertheless, there was an insignificant correlation of the moderator (information technology integration) on the link between quality management strategies and the performance of construction companies. This could be attributed to the absence of skills and expertise, as well as the absence of a modernized information technology system that integrates communication and quality management processes in construction organizations in Ghana. Subsequent studies should concentrate on the barriers to integrating IT into quality management processes in construction firms in developing nations.

Exploring ICT professional development of experienced female EFL teachers

The integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) into language teaching and learning is mandated by the national policy in Indonesia. This study aims to describe 34 experienced female EFL teachers’ experiences ICT professional development.. This study reports on: 1) encouraging and discouraging factors of ICT use for participants, 2) solutions of ICT integration for participants’ professional development, and 3) peers’ perception on participants’ improvement of ICT competencies. In order to investigate the external and internal factors on the participants' ICT professional development experiences, a sequential explanatory design with mixed methods approach was used in the study. In the first phase, a questionnaire was used as the instrument to categorize participants into satisfactory ICT proficiency and less satisfactory ICT proficiency. The second phase was one-on-one interviews to find further information on the participants’ experiences on ICT professional development. The questionnaire was analyzed using SPSS, while interviews were analyzed using deductive content analysis which employs four stages in its process. Results show that all teachers with proper ICT proficiency and those who are less proficient in ICT have positive perceptions of the use of technology in education. However, there are differences in how they solve internal and external problems, and how they perceive guidance from peers and also support from the school environment. This study recommends universities and the government to develop programs of ICT professional development suitable for experienced female teachers.

Constraints and Enablement of Workplace Digitalisation: An Integrative Review

The successful implementation of a digital workplace involves integrating information technology throughout all aspects of the organisation. The resulting changes are significant and wide-ranging, affecting the overall work environment. Numerous experts emphasize the importance of technology in establishing a digital workplace. However, it is important to acknowledge that digital transformation within the workplace presents its own set of challenges. As such, this study aims to identify the limitations associated with embracing a digital workplace and explore the various factors that impact the efficiency of employee digitalisation. In doing this an integrative review to explore the factors that constrain, and influence workplace digitalisation was employed. To do this, relevant studies were searched through reputable search engines such as Scopus, EBSCO, IEEE, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Bing. In addition, a range of online resources which proved to be reliable sources of information on workplace digitalisation and the constraints and enablement therein were used. Furthermore, reputable journal articles, government reports, and biographies were also used with specific keywords to identify both primary and secondary sources of data. The research results indicate that the lack of accuracy, reliability, trustworthiness, and productive collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence technologies in the context of digitalizing the workplace poses a substantial obstacle to their acceptance, implementation, and successful integration. However, it revealed that adaptability human asset capability employee motivation, and well-defined digitalisation strategy are critical in the effective implementation of workplace digitalisation. The study facilitates an in-depth analysis of the existing constraints and strategies for workplace digitalisation. The aim is to offer valuable recommendations to managers and practitioners on the successful implementation of workplace digitalisation. This study is a novel attempt that aims to explore the challenges and barriers that impede the successful utilisation of the human resource management process of workplace digitalisation.

Technology in education through mobile learning application (MLA) and its impact on learning outcomes: Literature review

Integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in teacher education is a means to support the teaching and learning process. Good teaching by utilizing technology certainly requires changes, especially in the realm of pedagogy, but teachers apparently do not have enough ability to optimize ICT in the learning process. In fact, ICT has the potential to provide various benefits for teachers and students, including joint learning areas, cooperative and collaborative learning opportunities. Therefore, this research aims to identify the use of mobile learning application (MLA) and its impact as a form of ICT integration in learning. The method used is literature study, by taking data from various relevant scientific articles and books. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis from the results of the synthesis of several literature reviews obtained. The research results show that a number of 10 main articles and 15 relevant supporting articles as well as several book sources show that mobile-based learning with smartphone devices is becoming a trend at various levels of education, both academic and vocational.

Determinants of Accounting Information Systems Success: The Case of the Greek Hotel Industry

Accounting information systems (AIS) are primarily designed to convert financial data into usable financial and management information. Their effectiveness or success, which shows the extent to which the requirements of their users are satisfied, is an essential factor in decision making. Previous research has found that user satisfaction is a particularly widely utilized and indicative measure of information system (IS) success. In this setting, the success or failure of an AIS is a crucial issue for all companies since a particular IS cannot be appropriate for everyone, especially in the case of accounting software that has to satisfy the requirements of its users. Furthermore, given the hotel industry’s information-intensive and competitive character, the AIS user satisfaction of hotel financial and accounting executives can be vital to their performance and the hotel’s operational efficiency. The aim of this research is to investigate a number of factors that influence AIS user satisfaction in the post-implementation period in the case of the Greek hotel industry. The findings of our empirical study show that system quality, information quality, system use, service quality, firm’s size, years of system use, information technology integration, and organic structure have a positive effect on user satisfaction with AIS. On the contrary, statistical analysis shows that users’ level of education is negatively correlated with AIS user satisfaction. Finally, the current research findings contribute theoretically to the IS and accounting literature, and they also shine a light on the managerial implications for IS developers, hotel managers, and financial executives.

The adoption of ICT and robotic automation systems in the pharmaceutical industry

Background: South African pharmacies face challenges like cost reduction, inventory management, and employee efficiency. Balancing dispensing error rates and customer satisfaction, along with ensuring accurate medication dispensing, is also crucial. An effective solution to these challenges is adopting automatic robotic dispensing systems, which enhance stock inventory management, integrated systems, and accurate dispensing capabilities.Objectives: The study delved into IT and robotic automation in South African pharmaceutical dispensing, assessing current methods and advocating for integrated IT and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems in retail and hospital pharmacies.Method: The research used a quantitative approach to gather data from public and private hospital pharmacy employees, aiming to understand their requirements and expectations. It assessed the potential improvements that could result from adopting a new system.Results: The study found that most government and private pharmacies in South Africa prefer automated dispensing systems to reduce errors, lower costs, improve customer service, and enhance inventory management. Benefits also included minimising medication errors, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring patient safety.Conclusion: The study holds importance as it underscores the necessity of integrating Information Technology (IT) and Robotic Automation in the pharmaceutical sector to address prevailing issues. It identifies factors contributing to medication dispensing errors and demonstrates the potential of automated robotic systems in mitigating these errors.Contribution: South Africa’s pharmaceutical sector must enhance efficiency and competitiveness by adopting integrated IT and Robotic Automation Systems. The study identified key factors for future implementation and emphasized the need for clear pre-implementation policies outlining functions and benefits.

Development of an Information-Based Leadership Evaluation Index System for School Management Teams: A Comprehensive Approach

In the context of educational informatization reform, there are many uncertain factors in the process of education development. To optimize the educational environment so that it can be effectively combined with information technology, teachers need to change their teaching ideas, strengthen the school’s own adaptability to informatization, and promote the development of informatization construction in schools. As a branch of information leadership, the management team should establish an evaluation index system for information leadership in order to ensure the construction of school informatization, so as to provide a boost for the integration of school resources and information technology. Based on the overview and connotation of information-based leadership of the management team, this paper explores the construction of an evaluation index system of information-based leadership of the school management team, aiming to provide references for the research of relevant personnel in the future.

Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Support for the Elderly in the Social Assistance Grants Empowerment (SAGE)

Abstract The integration of Information Technology in Business processes supports automation which eventually adds to its value. The Social Assistance Grants Empowerment (SAGE) is a Uganda government social protection programme in which it supports the elderly needy through disbursement of direct income. The programme is executed through five phases. It however encounters several challenges that this paper addresses by leveraging technology. Among the phases, the complaints and grievances phase presented unique challenges that required quick intervention. The decision was achieved through application of a rank matrix technique. Using BPR and design science methodologies, the C&G subprocess was reengineered, where new models were developed that informed the design of mobile and web applications to support the automation and process improvement. Moreover, simulation results from 2 scenarios are presented to compare the old and revised model. The revised model exhibited greater improvements where a case can be resolve in 8 days compared to over 2 months period in the old case. The tools are yet to be evaluated and fully deployed.

Understanding IT in Healthcare: Relevance and Training Needs of IT in Private Medical Practice.

The integration of Information Technology (IT) into private medical practice is crucial in modern healthcare. Physicians managing office-related IT without proper knowledge risk operational inefficiencies and security. This study determines the relevance of specific IT topics in medical practice and identifies the training needs of physicians for enhancing IT competencies in healthcare. In March 2023 a cross-sectional online survey was conducted with physicians comprising nine IT-related topics in Tyrol, Austria. The survey results highlighted a strong perceived relevance and high demand for IT education among physicians working in their medical practice, especially in areas of core medical IT and security. The majority of responses indicated high relevance (76.7%) and high demand (69.7%) for IT topics in medical practice. The findings underscore a significant need for targeted IT training and support in medical practices, particularly in areas related to the medical practice and security. Addressing these needs could lead to improved healthcare delivery and better management of technological resources in the healthcare sector.
