The effect of refined psychological pain nursing combined with IMB nursing on the pain, sleep and quality of life of patients after cervical cancer surgery.

To explore the effect of refined psychological pain nursing combined with information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) care model on the pain, sleep and quality of life of patients after cervical cancer surgery, so as to provide reference and basis for the nursing of patients after cervical cancer surgery. The clinical data of 798 postoperative cervical cancer patients who were nursing in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2022 were included in this retrospective study and divided into the control group (n = 382) and observation group (n = 416) according to the different care methods. The control group used refined psychological pain nursing, and on this basis, the observation group used IMB nursing to observe and compare the differences in pain, sleep and quality of life between the 2 groups. There was no significant difference in pain between the 2 groups before nursing (P > .05). After nursing, the pain of both groups was significantly improved. The scores of NRS, VAS, and PSEQ of the observation group were significantly better than those of the control group (P < .001). After nursing, the quality of life scores such as emotion, cognition, society, and overall health were significantly higher in the observation group than those of the control group, while physical, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and pain were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < .05). The negative emotion score of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < .001). The residual urine volume and urinary tract infection rate of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < .05). The bladder function was significantly better than that of the control group (P < .05). The analgesic effect of refined psychological pain nursing combined with IMB nursing on patients after cervical cancer surgery is better than that of refined psychological pain nursing alone, which can promote pain recovery and further improve the quality of life and sleep quality of patients.

Exercise Prescription Practices Among Mental Health Professionals on College Campuses: Testing the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model.

The co-occurrence of physical inactivity and poor mental health in the college student population can lead to chronic health issues that have negative short-term effects (e.g., academic success). Poor mental health is associated with long-term conditions (e.g., obesity, serious mental illness) that are linked to premature mortality. The purpose of this study was to examine the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model and evaluate its ability to explain the variance in the use of exercise prescription in mental health treatment. Mental health professionals (MHPs) (n = 255) were recruited from college counseling centers in the USA. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the relationship between the predictor variables of information (exercise knowledge and benefits of exercise), motivation (personal beliefs, perceived barriers, and organizational support), and behavioral skills (self-efficacy), and the outcome variable of exercise prescription (i.e., brief counseling and referral for exercise). The predictors accounted for 23% of the variance in exercise prescription (p = .001). Organizational support had a significant direct effect on exercise prescription (β = 0.27, p = .05). Personal beliefs (β = 0.96, p = .05) and organizational support (β = 0.31, p = .04) had significant direct effects on self-efficacy for prescribing exercise. MHP personal exercise behavior was associated with exercise prescription. MHPs may be willing to support physical activity promotion and exercise prescription, but organizational structures are critical to enhance and sustain the delivery of this adjunctive therapy. The personal exercise history of MHPs may be an important consideration for behavior change interventions. The development and validation of scales are important considerations for future intervention study design.

Application of IMB model in preventing venous thromboembolism in elderly lung cancer patients.

This study aims to explore the effects of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) Skills Model on the prevention of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) in elderly lung cancer patients. A convenience sampling method was used to select study participants who were hospitalized for treatment between November 2022 and August 2023 at a tertiary hospital in Neijiang and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The control group (n = 41) received conventional health education, while the intervention group (n = 40) received health education based on the IMB Skills Model over three months. The scores of the Venous Thrombosis Knowledge, Participation in Thrombosis Prevention Willingness and Behavior Questionnaire, and Quality of Life Measurement Scale (QLQ-C30) were compared before the intervention and after three months. After three months of intervention, the hospital satisfaction and VTE incidence rates in both groups were investigated and compared. After three months of intervention, the scores for the Venous Thrombosis Knowledge, (Participation in Thrombosis Prevention Willingness and Behavior Questionnaire in the intervention group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The QLQ-C30 scores in the intervention group for physical function, role function, emotional function, insomnia, appetite loss, and overall health status were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The intervention group rated higher in doctor's professional skills, information provision, accessibility; nurse's professional skills, humanistic care, information provision, accessibility; team communication, services of other personnel, overall satisfaction compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The rate of VTE in the intervention group was 2.5%(1/40), and that in the control group was 19.5%(8/41). There was a significant difference (χ2 = 4.336, P = 0.037). Nursing interventions based on the IMB Skills Model for elderly lung cancer patients can enhance patients' understanding of venous thrombosis, increase willingness and active participation in thrombosis prevention, improve quality of life, increase hospital satisfaction, and reduce the incidence of VTE.

Exploring the inherent mechanism of residents' participation behavior in neighborhood regeneration projects: an empirical study using an extended IMB model in China.

Resident participation has gained increasing prominence and significance in the pursuit of sustainable neighborhoods regeneration. However, the current state of resident participation practices remains beset by several challenges, which present formidable impediments to the initiation and execution of neighborhood regeneration initiatives. This study aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms of residents' participation behavior to enhance resident participation in neighborhood regeneration projects. The present study employs the extended Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) model to examine the determinants and mechanisms influencing residents' willingness and participation in neighborhood regeneration projects, with a specific focus on the Chinese context. Drawing upon data from 477 meticulously validated questionnaires administered to residents, the study applies structural equation modeling (SEM) to unravel the intrinsic dynamics of residents' participation behavior. The empirical findings of this research reveal that information, motivation, and the perceived local government support all exert a significant impact on residents' participation willingness. Notably, motivation emerges as the most influential factor. This study uncovers a direct influence of local government organizations on both residents' willingness and their actual participation, suggesting that government organizations can spearhead innovative strategies to bolster residents' willingness and furnish avenues for translating willingness into tangible participation. The outcomes of this study furnish an indispensable theoretical framework and offer policy recommendations that hold paramount importance for the deployment of novel interventions geared toward stimulating active involvement of residents in neighborhood regeneration.

Comparison Between the Effect of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) Model and Psychoeducational Counseling on Sexual Satisfaction and Contraception Method Used Under the Coercion of the Spouse in Iranian Women: A Randomized, Clinical Trial.

Women play an essential role in maintaining the family's health, and family planning is part of women's and families' health. The couple's mutual understanding of family planning methods is essential in selecting contraception. Acceptance of and satisfaction with different contraception methods can impact sexual satisfaction. The present study aimed to compare the effect of the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) model and psychoeducational counseling on sexual satisfaction and contraception methods of women referring to health centers in Kerman. This trial was conducted on 81 women aged 18 to 45, in Kerman health centers, from 2021 to 2022. Participants were randomly divided into 3 groups of 27 people (control, psychoeducational counseling, and IMB method). Three online counseling sessions were held for the psychoeducational group, and four were held for the IMB group. The control group received routine care. The IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 22 (IBM Corp. Armonk, NY, USA) was used for data analysis using nonparametric Friedman and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The mean age of participants was 32.59 ± 7.04, and the majority of them had university degrees and were homemakers. The mean sexual satisfaction score significantly increased immediately after the intervention and 1 month later in the 2 interventional groups (p < 0.0). Changes in contraception methods after intervention were significant in the psychoeducational group (p = 0.0) CONCLUSION: The results indicate the positive impact of psychological counseling on women's sexual satisfaction and contraception method. The IMB method also impacted men's sexual satisfaction but did not lead to any changes in the contraceptive method.

Application of Nursing Intervention Based on the Information-motivation-behavioral Model in Rehabilitation after Vocal Cord Polypectomy

Background: Vocal cord polyps are common benign lesions that cause voice disorders, particularly hoarseness, which can interfere with daily communication. Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the effect of applying a nursing intervention based on the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) model on rehabilitation after vocal cord polypectomy. Methods: A total of 76 patients who underwent vocal cord polyp resection in Wuhu Second People's Hospital between January 2019 and September 2021 were selected by convenience sampling as the study participants. A random number table was used to assign the patients to two groups, an intervention group and a control group (n=38 in each group). Patients in the control group were given routine postoperative nursing, whereas those in the intervention group received an IMB-based nursing intervention based on that of the control group. The data collected regarding self-care ability, vocal cord recovery, and voice disorder severity of the two groups after surgery were compared in January and February. Results: The Exercise of Self-Care Agency scale scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group both one and two months after surgery, and the difference was statistically significant (97.1±26.1 vs. 84.6±19.8, 103.3±28.4 vs. 85.6±20.0, P&lt; 0.05), indicating the superior self-care ability of the intervention group. The Voice Handicap Index scores of the intervention group were lower than those of the control group both one and two months after the surgery, and the difference was statistically significant (35.8±9.2 vs. 39.8±13.9, 24.6±6.2 vs. 29.7±7.3, P&lt;0.05), indicating that voice disorder severity was lower in the intervention group than in the control group. Moreover, the effective rates (recovery and improvement) of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group one and two months after the surgery. Conclusion: As evidenced by the obtained results, nursing intervention based on the IMB model for patients who undergo vocal cord polyp resection can effectively improve self-care ability, reduce the severity of voice disorders, and promote the recovery of vocal cords.

Prevalence and factors associated with hyperphosphatemia in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients: A cross-sectional study.

Hyperphosphatemia remains a major complication in patients with Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) leading to increased morbidity and mortality. However, phosphorus management still has many challenges. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors of hyperphosphatemia among continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients in a tertiary public hospital in Shanghai, China. The single-center cross-sectional study recruited end-stage renal failure patients who received continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) for at least 3 months. The participants aged 18-80 years had undergone CAPD between 1 July 2021 and 30 May 2022, in Shanghai, China.The patients' sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected prospectively from medical records and via face-to-face interviews. A sample size of convenience decides the sample size. This study used the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model as a theoretical framework. The questionnaire included knowledge and behavior of diet and medication in patients with hyperphosphatemia of chronic kidney disease, self-efficacy for managing chronic disease, and social support rating scale. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression were performed to identify the influencing factors of hyperphosphatemia by SPPS 27.0. In total, 141 CAPD patients (73% hyperphosphatemia) were included in the final analysis. In logistic regression analysis, dialysis vintage (OR: 0.975, 95%CI: 0.957-0.993), dialysis exchanges (OR: 0.317, 95%CI: 0.131-0.768), urine output (OR: 0.997, 95%CI: 0.995-0.999), serum albumin (OR: 1.166, 95%CI:1.008-1.349), serum creatinine (OR: 1.005, 95%CI: 1.001-1.008), hyperphosphatemia knowledge behavior score (OR: 0.888, 95%CI: 0.797-0.991), and social support level (OR: 0.841, 95%CI:0.765-0.925) were the influencing factors of hyperphosphatemia. Hyperphosphatemia is a frequent complication in CAPD patients. Dialysis vintage, dialysis exchanges, urine output, serum albumin, serum creatinine, hyperphosphatemia knowledge behavior, and social support were the associated factors of hyperphosphatemia in CAPD patients. It is crucial for healthcare providers to maintain phosphorus balance among CAPD patients using phosphorus management strategies.

Impact of Health Education on Hypertension Knowledge, Motivation and Preventive Practices towards Hypertension Control among Pre-Hypertensive Traders in Lagos State, Nigeria

Undiagnosed cases of hypertension remain prevalent in developing countries. Insufficient and lack of knowledge of hypertension and its risk factors limit its proper management and healthy self-care practices. Therefore, this study assessed effect of health-education intervention on hypertension related knowledge, motivation and preventive practices among traders in Lagos State. Quasi-experimental design was employed with seventy participants forming experimental and control group each in major markets of Alimosho and Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government areas of Lagos State, Nigeria. Multistage sampling technique was used. Interviewer administered questionnaire was developed. Weight (kg) and height (m) were measured by bathroom weighing scale and sphygmomanometer respectively. Participants’ body mass index (kg/m2) was calculated. Data were collected at baseline, immediate post intervention and sixth week of follow-up; analyzed by SPSS version 21.0 with level of significance placed at p&lt; 0.05. Frequency, percentage, means and standard deviation were used to describe findings while independent t-test was used for inferential statistics. Treatment effect were judged on t-distribution and Cohen’s d effect size. Participants’ mean age in experimental and control groups was 44.91±8.82 years and 44.37±8.80 years respectively. More than a quarter (40.0%) in experimental group and 34.3% in control group had tertiary education. Overweight is 22.9% and 20.0%, while obesity is 41.4% and 57.1% in experimental and control groups respectively. Knowledge, motivation and preventive practices significantly increased after intervention among experimental group more than control group (p&lt; 0.05). Information-Motivation Behavioral (IMB) model promotes hypertension knowledge, motivation and preventive practices.

Effect of information-motivation-behavior skills on adherence of continuous positive airway pressure therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome.

Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a common disease that seriously affects health. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the preferred treatment for moderate-to-severe OSAHS patients. However, poor adherence to CPAP is a major obstacle in the treatment of OSAHS. Information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills, as a kind of mature technology to change the behavior, has been used in various health areas to improve treatment adherence. This study aims to explore the effects of the IMB skills intervention on CPAP adherence in OSAHS patients. Patients who were primary diagnosed with moderate-to-severe OSAHS were randomly divided into the IMB group (n=62) and the control group (n=58). The patients in the IMB group received CPAP therapy and the IMB skills intervention for 4 weeks. The patients in the control group received CPAP therapy and a usual health care provided by a registered nurse. We collected the baseline data of the general information, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) score, and indicators about disease severity [apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), percentage of time with arterial oxygen saturation SaO2<90% (T90), average SaO2, lowest SaO2, arousal index]. After CPAP titration, we collected CPAP therapy-relevant parameters (optimal pressure, maximum leakage, average leakage, 95% leakage, and residual AHI), score of satisfaction and acceptance of CPAP therapy, and score of willingness to continue CPAP therapy. After 4 weeks treatment, we collected the ESS score, HADS score, CPAP therapy-relevant parameters, effective CPAP therapy time per night, CPAP therapy days within 4 weeks, CPAP adherence rate, score of satisfaction and acceptance of CPAP therapy, and score of willingness to continue CPAP therapy. Visual analog scale (VAS) of 0-5 was used to evaluate the satisfaction and acceptance of IMB intervention measures in the IMB group. There were no significant differences in the baseline level of demographic parameters, ESS score, HADS score, disease severity, and CPAP therapy related parameters between the IMB group and the control group (all P>0.05). There were no significant differences in score of willingness to continue CPAP therapy, as well as score of satisfaction and acceptance of CPAP therapy after CPAP titration between the IMB group and the control group (both P>0.05). After 4 weeks treatment, the ESS score, HADS score, maximum leakage, average leakage, and 95% leakage of the IMB group were significantly decreased, while the score of satisfaction and acceptance of CPAP therapy and willingness to continue CPAP therapy of the IMB group were significantly increased (all P<0.05); while the above indexes in the control group were not different before and after 4 weeks treatment (all P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the ESS score, HADS score, maximum leakage, average leakage, and 95% leakage of the IMB group after 4 weeks treatment were significantly lower (all P<0.05); the effective CPAP therapy time, CPAP therapy days within 4 weeks, score of satisfaction and acceptance of CPAP therapy, score of willingness to continue CPAP therapy of the IMB group were significantly higher (all P<0.05). The rate of CPAP therapy adherence in 4 weeks of the IMB group was significantly higher than that of the control group (90.3% vs 62.1%, P<0.05). The VAS of overall satisfaction with IMB skills intervention measures was 4.46±0.35. IMB skills intervention measures can effectively improve the adherence of CPAP therapy in OSAHS patients, and is suitable for clinical promotion.

The application of information-motivation-behavior skill model in patients with moderate to severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is a common complication of infertile patients underwent super ovulation treatment with assisted reproductive technology, which often occurs after the use of gonadotropin or in the first trimester. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of the information-motivation-behavior skill model in patients with moderate to severe OHSS. After different nursing intervention, the score results showed that after 4 weeks of intervention, the two groups of patients’ self-efficacy scores, total scores and quality of life scores were higher than before intervention, and the intervention group was higher than the normal control (p &lt; 0.05). Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores of 2 groups were lower than before intervention, and the score of the intervention group was lower than the normal control (p &lt; 0.05). In conclusion, the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model can significantly improve the cognitive level and the quality of life of patients with moderate and severe OHSS.

Attitudes and Practices of a Sample of Nova Scotian Physicians for the Implementation of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.

IntroductionPre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective HIV prevention tool that requires the ongoing support of physicians to be accessible. Recently, Nova Scotia experienced a 100% increase in HIV diagnoses. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between physicians’ support of PrEP, knowledge of PrEP, and PrEP prescribing history using the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model.MethodsAn online survey was distributed to physicians in Nova Scotia, Canada, and eighty physicians participated. Two exploratory factor analyses were conducted with items from the Support of PrEP scale and Knowledge of PrEP scale. A mediation analysis was conducted to assess if knowledge of PrEP mediated the relationship between support of PrEP and whether physicians have prescribed PrEP in the past.ResultsOn average, physicians reported strong support for PrEP, and as support for PrEP increased so did knowledge of PrEP. Further, physicians who had prescribed PrEP demonstrated strong knowledge of PrEP and physicians who had not prescribed PrEP reported feeling neutral. The 95% bootstrap confidence interval indirect effect of Support for PrEP on prescription history did not include zero (B = 1.59, 95% BsCI [0.83, 3.57]) demonstrating that the effect of support for PrEP is mediated by knowledge of PrEP. The most commonly identified barrier to prescribing PrEP was the lack of drug coverage among patients.ConclusionThe results of the mediation analysis support the IMB skills model regarding support for PrEP, Knowledge of PrEP, and having prescribed PrEP in the past. Our findings suggest that to improve PrEP uptake in Nova Scotia, educational interventions for physicians and universal coverage of the drug would be necessary.

Adaptation and Pilot Evaluation of an Intervention Addressing the Sexual Health Needs of Gay Men Living with HIV Infection in Colombia.

Interventions addressing the sexual health need of HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) in Latin America are scarce. We adapted and evaluated GPS, a group-based intervention led by peers, developed using the Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) model and motivational interviewing (MI). We used McKleroy et al framework to culturally adapt GPS to MSM living with HIV infection in Colombia. Then, a one-armed pilot trial examined changes in depressive symptoms, loneliness, self-efficacy for engaging in sexual risk reduction behaviors, sexual sensation seeking and sexual compulsivity at pre-intervention, post-intervention, and 3-month follow-up. These results were complemented with semistructured interviews with participants 3 months after the intervention. GPS was identified to be culturally acceptable with few changes in materials and exercises. Facilitators showed high levels of adherence and fidelity to MI principles. Seven of 11 eligible participants finished the intervention; GPS positively influenced self-efficacy for condom negotiation, depressive symptoms, and condomless anal sex with partners of unknown HIV status. Exit interviews revealed that GPS was well-designed, relevant, facilitated discussion of sex in a nonjudgmental manner, and helped make positive changes in participants’ sexual lives. These results provided preliminary evidence of an intervention to address sexual and mental health of MSM living with HIV in Latin America.

Condom Use and HIV/AIDS Among Young People in Edo State, Nigeria

This study used the Information Motivation Behavioral (IMB) skills model to examine condom use among rural youth in Edo State, Nigeria. Data were collected from 4,801 youth aged 11 to 17 years attending Junior Secondary Schools. Analysis focused on 1,749 (Male = 1,134, Female = 615) sexually active youth. Random-effects ordinal logit models were used to examine the effects of the various components of the IMB framework on frequency of condom use. Gender-specific models were estimated. Results provided qualified support for the IMB. Specifically, youth who communicated with teachers and peers about condoms and HIV had higher odds of saying they used condoms always than sometimes or never. Compared to males who did not think they could get HIV, those who thought they probably could get infected were less likely to use condoms frequently. Similarly, compared to those who didn’t, females who knew others infected with HIV were less likely to use condoms frequently.

Pure design experiment using Randomized Controlled Trial with pre-post test with a single-blind control group. The research subjects are toddlers aged 2-4 years many 60, who meet the criteria have significant congenital abnormalities and not multiple. The instrument of this study is a Guide to family-based health promotion models, with the research instrument being the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL ™) Questionnaire.&#x0D; The health promotion model of information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) is carried out in the form of family mentoring activities to improve the quality of life of children aged 2-4 years ( p-value0,000). The average enhancement child's quality of life score, more large ( mean difference 16.90, p-value 0,000 ) in the group experiment ( IMB Model ) compared the control group. External variables that affect the quality of life of children aged 2-4 years are income and parenting parents.

Self-care for head and neck cancer survivors with lymphedema and fibrosis: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

BackgroundHead and neck cancer (HNC) patients are at high risk for developing lymphedema and fibrosis (LEF) following cancer treatment. Once HNC patients develop LEF, they need to conduct life-long self-care to slow LEF progression and reduce associated symptom burden and functional deficits. Data demonstrate that inadequate LEF self-care may be a potentially remediable issue. The objective of this study is to explore the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of an Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) Skills model-driven self-care program (SCP) to improve LEF management and reduce LEF-related symptom burden and functional impairments.Methods/designThis is a three-arm, prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial to compare: Group 1 – Usual Care, Group 2 – Usual Care Plus LEF-SCP, and Group 3 – Usual Care Plus LEF-SCP Plus Follow-Up. Participants will be HNC survivors aged > 18 years of age, who meet predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A sample size of 75 participants is targeted. Interventions will be provided by trained staff. The study assessments for all groups will take place at five points: study entry then 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post enrollment. Outcome measures include: (1) feasibility (barriers to implementation, safety, and satisfaction) of the proposed intervention; (2) self-efficacy and adherence to self-care; and (3) preliminary efficacy (LEF progression, symptom burden, and functional status) of the proposed intervention.DiscussionThis will be the first study to evaluate the feasibility of a LEF-SCP in the HNC population and its impact on self-efficacy and adherence. Furthermore, it will evaluate the potential benefit of routine follow-up on adherence and fidelity to the self-care protocol. We expect that the trial will provide evidence supporting the feasibility of a LEF self-care program. In addition, we anticipate that preliminary data will support improved outcomes including increased adherence and fidelity, and decreased LEF-associated symptoms.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov, a service of the US National Institute of Health (NCT 03030859). &lt;p&gt;Low consumption of vegetables and fruit causes an increased risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The results showed that the majority of pregnant women (52.9%) rarely consume vegetables and fruit in sufficient quantities as recommended. Therefore, it is necessary to provide education about the importance of vegetables and fruits consumption, one of which is through the Information Motivation Behavioral Skill (IMB) approach. This study aims to determine the effect of health education with the Information Motivation Behavior Skill (IMB) approach to increasing knowledge and consumption patterns of vegetables and fruits in pregnant women. This research is a quasi-experimental study with pre-post test design with control groups conducted in pregnant women in the city of Bandung with 60 samples using the observation sheet and questionnaire instruments. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The result of this study indicates that there are significant differences in knowledge and patterns of consumption of vegetables and fruit in pregnant women between the control and treatment groups with a p-value&amp;lt;0.05. Information Motivation Behavior Skill (IMB) Health Education Model approach has a role in increasing the knowledge and consumption patterns of vegetables and fruits in pregnant women.&lt;/p&gt;

Adherence to self-monitoring of blood glucose in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes: current status and influential factors based on electronic questionnaires.

Background and purposeSelf-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) is important to the management of diabetes mellitus, yet most patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) do not perform SMBG as recommended. The current status and influential factors of SMBG in China have not been well investigated. This study aimed to describe the present status of SMBG adherence in China and investigate the influential factors based on electronic questionnaires.Patients and methodsA cross-sectional study was conducted from June to July of 2017 at hospitals in Changsha, China. Seven hundred and twenty-one patients with T2DM completed the information‑motivation‑behavioral (IMB) skills questionnaire and other electronic questionnaires composed of demographic and clinical characteristics as well as diabetes-related and psychological scales. Univariate comparisons and multivariate logistic regression were used to explore the relationships among SMBG adherence and related factors.ResultsSeven hundred and twenty-one patients with valid questionnaires were included. Only 27.5% (198/721) of the patients with T2DM were SMBG adherent based on the guideline of the Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) in 2017. Among all groups of treatment regimens, the rate of SMBG adherence was highest at 36.6% (82/224) in patients on oral hypoglycaemic drugs (OHAs). In multivariable analysis, the treatment of OHAs (OR =3.731, CI 2.162–6.437) and diet/exercise (OR =3.534, CI 1.841–6.783), the patient having their own blood glucose meter (OR =6.916, CI 4.054–11.800) and a higher education level (OR =3.780, CI 1.688–8.466) were significantly associated with SMBG adherence.ConclusionMost Chinese patients with T2DM did not perform SMBG as recommended. The treatment of OHAs and diet/exercise, the patient having their own blood glucose meter, a higher education level and other factors were correlates of SMBG adherence. There is clearly a need for prospective, multicenter, large-scale studies to explore the reasons for patients’ failure to practice SMBG adherence.

Influence of WeChat education on self-management of diabetic nephropathy patients based on IMB model

Objective To explore the effects of information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model based WeChat education on the treatment compliance, the self-efficacy and the quality of life of diabetic nephropathy patients. Methods A total of 92 patients with diabetic nephropathy treated in Danyang People's Hospital from January 2015 to June 2016 were selected as the research object by convenient sampling method and randomly divided into observation group and control group according to the random number table, with 46 cases in each. The control group received conventional WeChat health education, and the observation group implemented WeChat health education based on IMB model. The treatment compliance, the self-efficacy and the quality of life were compared between the two groups 6 months after the nursing intervention. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of all dimensions and the total scores of treatment compliance before intervention (P>0.05) . All the dimensions of treatment compliance of the observation group were higher than those of the control group after intervention, and the differences were statistically significant (t=3.365, 3.258, 3.989, 2.655, 3.513, 4.674, 3.747, 4.187, 3.578; P<0.01) . The change degree of the 10 dimensions of self-efficacy and total scores were all greater than those of control group, the differences were statistically significant (t=4.854, 5.632, 4.854, 4.241, 3.896, 3.785, 3.789, 3.325, 3.314, 3.817, 4.123; P<0.01) . The improvement of all the dimensions of patients' life quality and its total score were all higher than the control group after intervention, with significant statistical difference (t=5.965, 4.763, 4.746, 4.547, 3.869; P<0.01) . Conclusions Application of IMB model based WeChat health education on diabetic nephropathy patients can significantly improve the patient's treatment compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life. Credit card knowledge, social motivation, and credit card misuse among college students

PurposeBy applying the information-motivation-behavioral (IMB) skills model, the purpose of this paper is to examine the direct and indirect effects of credit card knowledge and social motivation on credit card misuse behavior mediated through credit card self-efficacy among college students in the USA.Design/methodology/approachA sample of 427 participants was surveyed. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the hypothesized model.FindingsCredit card knowledge and social motivation were inversely associated with credit card misuse mediated through credit card self-efficacy. Credit card knowledge had a direct negative relationship with credit card misuse. The results confirm the theoretical relationships in the IMB model.Practical implicationsThe results offer several implications for bank marketers and policy makers. The IMB model could be used to predict credit card abuse among college students; credit card literacy programs should incorporate strategies that can enhance students’ knowledge, social motivation, and behavioral skills with regard to responsible use of credit cards.Originality/valueThis study is unique in that it applies the IMB model to examine predictors of credit card misuse among college students.

Development and Feasibility Testing of a Smartphone Intervention to Improve Adherence to Antipsychotic Medications.

Approximately 60% of individuals with schizophrenia do not take their antipsychotic medications as prescribed, and nonadherence is associated with exacerbation of psychotic symptoms, increased hospital and emergency room use, and increased healthcare costs. Behavioral-tailoring strategies that incorporate medication taking into the daily routine and use environmental supports have shown promise as adherence-enhancing interventions. Informed by the Information-Motivation-Behavioral (IMB) Skills Model and using the iterative process of user-centered design, we collaborated with individuals with schizophrenia and psychiatrists to develop an interactive smartphone application and web-based clinician interface, MedActive, for improving adherence to oral antipsychotic treatment. MedActive facilitates the active involvement of individuals with schizophrenia in managing their antipsychotic medication regimen by providing automated reminders for medication administration and tailored motivational feedback to encourage adherence, and by displaying user-friendly results of daily ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) of medication adherence, positive psychotic symptoms, and medication side effects for individuals and their psychiatrists. In a 2-week open trial completed by 7 individuals with schizophrenia and their psychiatrists, MedActive was determined to be both feasible and acceptable, with patient participants responding to 80% of all scheduled EMAs and providing positive evaluations of their use of the application. Psychiatrist participants were interested in viewing the information provided on the MedActive clinician interface, but cited practical barriers to regularly accessing it and integrating into their daily practice.
