Effects of Digital Citizenship and Digital Transformation Enablers on Innovativeness and Problem-Solving Capabilities

Doing business in the age of information abundance indicates the importance of developing information management skills, enabling the individuals to be more productive but also more flexible to changes. In literature, innovation, as a driver of a firm’s performance, has been highlighted, while problem-solving capabilities are considered one of the key assumptions for the implementation of digital transformation strategy. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of digital citizenship and digital transformation enablers on innovation and problem-solving capabilities. The data collection procedure commenced by selecting a random sample of private companies from various industries A survey was carried out, and a total sample of 247 valid questionnaires were collected. The PLS-SEM method was used to test the relationships in the proposed model. The study found that some elements of digital citizenship are positively associated with digital transformation enablers. The results of the study confirmed that technology-based digital transformation enablers positively contribute to innovation and problem-solving capabilities. Also, technological facets of digital transformation enablers realize a mediating role in the relationship between digital citizenship and innovation, as well as with problem-solving capabilities.

Linking faculty research output and activities to sustainable development goals: opportunities for metadata specialists

Purpose Although universities have extensive research and initiatives in place that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is still a significant gap in documenting and assessing these efforts. This paper aims to discuss how academic libraries can apply their information management skills and open-access platforms, to facilitate the discoverability and retrieval of evidence on SDGs. Design/methodology/approach Introduced by a brief literature review on the role of libraries in contributing to the SDGs in general, the authors draw on their personal experiences as metadata specialists, participating in a project aimed at linking their university’s research output to the SDGs. A case study, from the University of Pretoria’s Veterinary Science Library, is used as an example to demonstrate the benefits of resourceful metadata in organising, communicating and raising awareness about the SDGs in the field of veterinary science. Findings Through practical examples and recommended workflows, this paper illustrates that metadata specialists are perfectly positioned to apply their information management skills and library platforms to facilitate the discoverability and retrieval of evidence on SDGs. Originality/value Although there are increasing reports on the contributions of libraries to support the successful implementation of the SDGs, limited information exists on the role of metadata specialists, as well as those with a practical focus.

Fast-tracking action on the Sustainable Development Goals by enhancing national institutional arrangements.

Six years remain to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite some progress, institutional effectiveness for SDG achievement has not been delivered at a national level. Identification and establishment of an institutional framework to operationalise the 2030 Agenda within national plans, giving science-based coordination of SDG implementation a central role, is urgently required to accelerate progress. This paper tackles this challenge. Drawing on literature analysis, it asks: 1) What are the deficiencies in institutional national arrangements that hinder SDG implementation? 2) How can existing institutional deficiencies in SDG implementation be addressed? and 3) How can institutional changes support fast-tracking of SDG implementation processes at national level? Findings show that country-specific horizontal institutional arrangements are usually advanced. However, national visions to improve mainstreaming across decision-making at different levels to enable whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches to SDG implementation are commonly under-developed. Deficiencies are due to poor systematic engagement of scientific and technical expertise in operational day-to-day communication, as well as in the design, validation, implementation, monitoring and reporting of domestic SDG-related multi-stakeholder actions. Vertical institutional arrangements are complex, and risk resource-consuming, uncoordinated implementation. Our analyses suggest countries may benefit from establishing a national, centralised independent scientific and technical coordinating body for SDG implementation at national level, within existing science-based institutional arrangements. Such a body would not be led by governmental processes but would provide technical support to government agencies. We argue that scientific and technical skills in data and information management and quality control are central to coordinated and evidence-informed support, and could help to accelerate national SDG implementation. Such a supporting body would also enable a more joined-up approach between stakeholders working in the areas of science and technology, government and practice, improving orchestrated science-based actions and their auditing across sectors and stakeholder communities at national and sub-national levels. It would further guide actions to reduce trade-offs within national sustainable development aspirations, and would facilitate consideration of diverse values in advancing towards a durable and just transformative future. Such efforts are vital given the rapidly closing window of time for SDG achievement.

Information Management Practices and Job Performance of Secretaries in Public Polytechnics in South-west, Nigeria

Information explosion has become the order of the day in every organization. With the emergence of ever dynamic technologies, secretaries are expected to upgrade their skills of information management practices to enrich their performance. This necessitates enquiry into influence of information management practices on job performance of secretaries in public polytechnics in South-west, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted in the study and the population comprised 648 secretaries from both federal and state polytechnics in six states of South-west, Nigeria. The sample size was 242 which was determined using the Krejcie and Morgan sample size determination table. A stratified proportionate sampling technique was used to determine the number of questionnaires that was given in each of the institutions. Results showed that the level of information management practices of secretaries under examination is moderate with a mean of 3.32. There was a significant influence of information management practices on job performance of secretaries in public polytechnics in South-west Nigeria (Adj.R2 = 0.328, F(5.212)=22.191,p< 0.05). The study concluded that information management practices have significant influence on job performance of secretaries in public polytechnics in South-west Nigeria. It was therefore, recommended that management of polytechnics in South-west Nigeria should provide training sessions for secretaries to enhance their information management skills. Workshops should be mounted on the use of software tools, managing emails, and organizing digital files efficiently among others.

Relationship between skills acquired and on the job performance of library and information science (lis) graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina, Nigeria

This research is a study of Library and Information Science Graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University Katsina 2010-2019 for their skills Relevance and performance in the Job Market. The areas focused upon were employers of LIS graduates in Katsina Metropolis. The data was gathered through literature review and field survey. Total enumeration sampling was applied to determine the required sample frames of graduates. The responses were gathered from LIS schools, Libraries, higher institutions, Ministries, Banks and NGOs. A Questionnaire was administered to obtain the necessary data from the respondents. The questionnaire was administered on a total of 120 graduates and a response rate of 98 representing 81.70% was achieved. Data was analysed using quantitative statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Two null hypotheses were tested at α =0.05 using Correlation. The overall results revealed that the graduates were employed (100%). Decision on each of the items and aggregate mean score for the table is based on the midpoint average of 3.0 on the five-point scale. Opinion of the responses in the table revealed that Time manage was low on the scale among skills acquired by the graduates during their training in the university. Most responses were of the view that the graduates’ acquisition of Time management during training was not adequate enough. Responses were of the view that Information Management Skill acquired by the graduates was relevant in the job market. The responses rated the graduates’ performances as very high. Ho1 revealed that acquired skills during training as under-graduate in the university was significantly correlated with the graduates’ performances in their respective jobs. Ho2 revealed that the UMYU LIS graduates’ skills and relevance of the skills in the job market were significantly correlated.

Implementing Clinical Information Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa: Report and Lessons Learned From the MatLook Project in Cameroon.

Yaoundé Central Hospital (YCH), located in the capital of Cameroon, is one of the leading referral hospitals in Cameroon. The hospital has several departments, including the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics (hereinafter referred to as "the Maternity"). This clinical department has faced numerous problems with clinical information management, including the lack of high-quality and reliable clinical information, lack of access to this information, and poor use of this information. We aim to improve the management of clinical information generated at the Maternity at YCH and to describe the challenges, success factors, and lessons learned during its implementation and use. Based on an open-source hospital information system (HIS), this intervention implemented a clinical information system (CIS) at the Maternity at YCH and was carried out using the HERMES model-the first part aimed to cover outpatient consultations, billing, and cash management of the Maternity. Geneva University Hospitals supported this project, and several outcomes were measured at the end. The following outcomes were assessed: project management, technical and organizational aspects, leadership, change management, user training, and system use. The first part of the project was completed, and the CIS was deployed in the Maternity at YCH. The main technical activities were adapting the open-source HIS to manage outpatient consultations and develop integrated billing and cash management software. In addition to technical aspects, we implemented several other activities. They consisted of the implementation of appropriate project governance or management, improvement of the organizational processes at the Maternity, promotion of the local digital health leadership and performance of change management, and implementation of the training and support of users. Despite barriers encountered during the project, the 6-month evaluation showed that the CIS was effectively used during the first 6 months. Implementation of the HIS or CIS is feasible in a resource-limited setting such as Cameroon. The CIS was implemented based on good practices at the Maternity at YCH. This project had successes but also many challenges. Beyond project management and technical and financial aspects, the other main problems of implementing health information systems or HISs in Africa lie in digital health leadership, governance, and change management. This digital health leadership, governance, and change management should prioritize data as a tool for improving productivity and managing health institutions, and promote a data culture among health professionals to support a change in mindset and the acquisition of information management skills. Moreover, in countries with a highly centralized political system like ours, a high-level strategic and political anchor for such projects is often necessary to guarantee their success.

PENINGKATAN PENGELOLAAN MANAJEMEN INFORMASI BERBASIS DIGITAL DI PONDOK PESANTREN ZHILALUL QUR’AN RAGUKLAMPITAN BATEALIT JEPARA

The Zhilalul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School manages various educational services starting from the formal institutions of MI, SMP, MA, and non-formal TPQ, Madin, Tahfidz Program, and Kitab Kuning. Information services in these pesantren have been manual and uneven. Access to communication and information from administrators, ustadz/ustadzah to guardians of students is still manual, through information on the results of recording which often occurs as obstacles to tucked in archives, incomplete and not systematic. The purpose of this community service activity is to improve partners' skills in digital technology-based information management, so that services at Islamic boarding schools are more improved and developed. This service activity method starts from the socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation stages. At the training stage the team used tutorial, lecture, and question and answer methods. Assistance phase through practical methods. The results of this service activity were 30 participants who were involved as administrators as well as ustadz ustadzah at the Zhilalul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School. After participating in digital information management training, 80% of participants were able to present activity information in digital form complete with pictures, captions through application media Canva. Previously, the participants also received training on the importance of managing information in digital-based Islamic boarding schools. Participants gain knowledge about the importance of digitization, types of information, and techniques for making news. Furthermore, assistance in the practice of making information and news designs is packaged using the Canva application media. 85% there was an increase in information services at digital-based Islamic boarding schools, information on students' return schedules, students' activities, and students' achievement progress was shared with students' guardians through digital information accompanied by pictures and interesting.

Digitalization in China: who’s left behind?

ABSTRACT In an age of digitalization, who still refuses to use digital technology? Drawing on nationally-representative Chinese General Social Survey data, this article finds that about half of Chinese households do not actively use the Internet or e-payment systems, despite their ubiquity. This article estimates the effects of socioeconomic resources on these technologies’ (non-)use across urban, resident but previously urban, resident but previously rural, and rural hukou household registrations in China. Educational attainment is associated with higher odds of use among rural hukou, but the size of this effect is nearly double compared to urban hukou. Additionally, being female increases the odds of use among urban and resident but previously urban hukou, and lowers the odds of use in rural hukou, but which are attenuated by the mediating effects of education. The results give credence to education as a direct and indirect mechanism for digital skills development, especially for rural households. Individuals proximal to rural living conditions have fewer opportunities to learn about digital technology, resulting in greater dependency on education as a rare source of skills training. Simultaneously, education indirectly creates opportunities for women to learn digital skills by improving chances for higher-status job participation that require information management skills, especially in rural regions where traditional cultural norms constrain opportunities for upward mobility. Ultimately, digital technology non-use is traced not to lack of interest, but to lack of skills development opportunities among the socioeconomically disadvantaged.

THE MANAGEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AI IN THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM IN ISRAEL

This article reviews how Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are implemented and reshaping the education system in Israel. In many ways Education and AI are intertwined. Education is used as a means to develop minds capable of expanding and leveraging the pool of knowledge, while AI provides tools to develop a more accurate and detailed picture of how the human brain works. By leveraging the best features of machines and teachers, the vision for AI in education is one where AI and teachers work together to achieve the best outcome for students. Since today’s students will have to work in a future where AI is a reality, it is important that our educational institutions expose students to the technology and train them how to use it. The idea behind managing and implementing AI is to strengthen student-centred and self-regulated learning and promote the development of students’ information management and problem-solving skills. The study investigates how teachers, school ICT coordinators, principals, and parents deal with the implantation of AI in education, how they use innovative technological tools, and how do they cope with the challenges facing students. In order to be able to integrate AI elements, teachers from the school receive a training course in a coordinated manner. In addition, implementing AI requires schools to assign instructors, who as teachers, hold weekly meetings on digital skills, and each school has a school ICT coordinator and leading teachers on the subject. The role of the principal in this project is to coordinate between the schools and Ministry of Education that supervises how schools implement the project.

What I had, what I needed: First-year students reflect on how their high school experience prepared them for college research

This article is a continuation of the First-Years study (Valenza et al., 2022) that investigated college research readiness among novice and non-novice first-year students. This paper offers analysis of additional qualitative data from first-year college students reflecting on their high school preparation, levels of confidence regarding research and specific information literacy (IL) skills and how academic research differed from their previous inquiry experiences. Findings of this study hold implications for the instructional design of IL and underscore the need for heightened preparation in research and IL skills at the high school level and particularly for moving beyond the mechanics of research toward a focus on the critical thinking aspects of inquiry. Based on these findings, the researchers offer a three-part taxonomy of IL skills: information management, critical thinking, and metacognitive skills that could be used to guide the instructional design of IL at both the high school and college levels.

Twelve tips for physicians’ mastering expertise in diagnostic excellence

Diagnostic errors, which account for a large proportion of medical errors, are a global medical challenge. The slogan of reducing diagnostic errors has recently shifted to a new strategy of diagnostic excellence, the core of which is the importance of improving the multidisciplinary diagnostic process. Many of the elements and strategies necessary for diagnostic excellence have been presented. In the context of this diagnostic improvement, some reports have been structured to improve the quality of performance of individual physicians as players. Still, surprisingly, only a few reports have focused on specific day-to-day training strategies for the diagnostic thinking process as expertise. This paper focuses on this point and proposes strategies for refining the diagnostic thinking expertise of frontline physicians in the new era, based on the following four elements: knowledge and experience, diagnostic thinking strategies, information management skills, and calibration and reflection.

Preparing school leaders for the fourth industrial revolution: An assessment of their continuous professional development needs

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) radically altered career and institutional development. Hence, this study assessed the CPD needs of school leaders to prepare them for 4IR. The human capital development (HCD) theory was adopted. A survey approach was used. Random and snowball sampling approaches was used to select 284 school leaders. School leaders exhibited moderate proficiency in basic IT applications. The type of school only significantly affects information management and evaluation (IME) skills among school leaders. Primary and secondary schools have different CPD needs for school leaders regarding IME. The study concluded that school leaders should receive training on 4IR attributes, basic IT applications, and cutting-edge 4IR technologies.

DEVELOPMENT OF SOFT SKILLS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE BACHELORS IN THE PROJECT LEARNING PROCESS

The article proposes and substantiates a method of development of soft skills in Computer Science bachelors using project-based learning technologies, as successful employment of graduates in the IT industry market depends on the level of such skills. Developed communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to plan work on a project are important requirements for university graduates’ successful employment in the IT industry. The formation and development of soft skills enables the students not only to meet the requirements of the labor market, but also to more successfully develop professional skills (hard skills). The authors propose indicators of soft skill formation by 5 categories: personal effectiveness, communicative, managerial, strategic and information management skills. The methodology of soft skill development for future specialists in information technologies is based on three stages, each of which involves the implementation of different types of projects: collective, term paper and interdisciplinary. The components of soft skills that are formed during each of the stages are determined. The research substantiates the integration of two learning technologies for the implementation of the proposed methodology – blended and project-based learning, which involve the use of digital technologies. During the experimental research, students independently assessed the level of their soft skill formation according to the defined indicators in line with the proposed categories on a 10-point scale. The results of the conducted experimental study proved the improvement of the level of soft skill formation in Computer Science Bachelors in the process of project training. The statistical analysis of the results of the experiment proved the significance of the proposed method and made it possible to confirm its effectiveness.

Soft Skills for Employability from Academics Perspectives

Critical Thinking skills sum up the proficiencies needed for employment. Critical Thinking skills especially Soft skills are identified as a job barrier in Malaysia. Employers assert that our graduates lack Soft skills, thus in 2006, the Malaysian government introduces and encourages the use of Soft skills, which include communication skills, problem-solving and thinking skills, continuous learning skills and information management skills, work in group skills, leadership skills, entrepreneurship skills, and professional ethics. This study focuses on the Soft skills for graduates’ employability through three objectives: to investigate the Soft skills needed by graduates, to determine whether graduates have the soft skills required for employment and whether these skills are being taught at university. The research methodology consists of a survey aimed at lecturers at the Language Centre, National Defence University of Malaysia, using a mixed-method approach. The online survey contains both closed and open-ended questions and is analyzed using SPSS v.25.0 and manual content analysis. Results indicate that the most desired Soft skills are Communication Skills, Problem Solving and Thinking Skills, and Teamwork Skills. Lecturers agree that graduates must be equipped with the Soft skills needed for employment and they perceive that these skills are taught at the university. The lecturers agree on the importance of Soft skills, and this is supported by the overall findings. This research suggests that higher educational institutions should teach Soft skills either through a course specifically for Soft skills or integrated into courses designed to meet employers’ needs.

Nursing informatics skills relevance and competence for final year nursing students.

The increasing use of technology in nursing practice requires nursing students to be competent in nursing informatics with an attitude of acceptance of technology in the healthcare environment. The objectives of the study were to determine final year nursing students' perceptions and skills in nursing informatics and their attitudes towards computerisation in nursing practice. The study population were 198 final year nursing students from a selected university in the Western Cape, South Africa. All-inclusive sampling was used. A descriptive survey was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire which included two validated scales, namely the validated Nursing Informatics Competency Assessment Tool (NICAT) and the Nurses' Attitudes towards Computerisation scale. Means and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of the ratings of the perceived relevance of nursing informatics skills in nursing practice, perceived levels of competence in nursing informatics skills and attitudes towards computers were calculated. A total of 91 undergraduate respondents completed the survey. Computer literacy skills were rated overall as most relevant (4.23, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 4.06-4.40) and the skills perceived most competent (4.16, 95% CI: 3.81-4.22). The respondents had an overall positive score for attitudes towards computerisation in healthcare (67.34, s.d. = 10.40, 95% CI: 65.18-69.51). The study concluded that computer literacy skills, informatics literacy skills and information management skills were relevant to nursing practice, despite varying levels of competence in these skills among nurses.Contribution:What key insights into the research results and its future function are revealed? The Knowledge Work of the Future and the Future of Knowledge Work

Our paper investigates what forms the knowledge work design on a corporate level in the future. The future might be 2025, 2030, or 2035. The methodology includes interviews with researchers working with these issues in Telia and Telenor. These companies make their living from understanding the future of work both on a corporate and societal level. The main finding is that AI and robotics will be more advanced, but management and organizational structure will be the main changes. The work will be done more as distance work and through virtual teams. The management and organization of work through the coronavirus have opened for more work done independent of time and the workplace and in virtual teams. There is also predicted a lack of professionals and all types of employees in the years to come, leading both to compete for talent and increased importance in keeping the employed knowledge workers through internal career pipelines. AI and robotics will not reduce the need for professionals and employees. The steps will be taken towards an integrated digitalization that makes new opportunities for collaboration, communication, and knowledge work. The fundamental knowledge worker will be using more of his working time on significant business issues. The skills needed are technical, information management, knowledge management, project management, collaboration, communication, rhetoric, virtual team, creativity, and green problem-solving skills. There is a corporate need for ethical, cultural, tolerating, and sexual awareness. We may summarize the requirements as creative, sustainable, social, and perception manipulation intelligence. The future knowledge will be complex, and the knowledge worker will handle multiple skills in different situations. The future knowledge work will be dominated by increasingly autonomous workers co-opting automated digital systems to create and capture value. The education might be revamped into a more task-focused education offered through the work-life cycles. The revamping of education will also increase the overall employment, and we will not experience the mass unemployment described in the literature as the result of AI, robotics, and digitalization. We have identified that the literature uses the unit occupation and not the unit tasks for the predicted higher unemployment and gets the misinterpretation of negative consequences. The environmental issues and the climate crisis will be taken very seriously in the years to come. There will be cooperation between the political and corporate economies to do whatever is possible for sustainability in all internal and external processes to work greener and smarter. We will experience sustainability in action driven by a green leadership through a green strategy and green business models giving green services and products, reusing as much as possible, and using as few as possible resources to reduce the CO2 gases. This study concludes that there will be many small positive corporate and societal steps for each year towards 2030, improving the way of living and working together with environmental improvements. The reconstruction of the middle class is also emerging — neither a perfect nor an imperfect world.

Assessment of Competencies in Technology Operation and Concepts among Teachers in a Philippine State University

Being prepared to use technology and knowing how that technology can support student learning have become integral skills in every teacher’s professional repertoire. This study aimed to assess the level of information and communications technology competencies of teachers in higher education, particularly in the technology operations and concepts skills. The study utilized the descriptive design which involved a questionnaire adopted from the National ICT Competency Standard for Teachers. Using the sample size estimation formula for a finite population, 104 teachers in a state university in the Philippines were considered respondents of the study. Responses from the questionnaires were directly encoded and analyzed using the Microsoft Excel application using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentage, and mean. Based on the results, teachers reported a basic competency in understanding and the effective use of the internet and network applications and resources. Also, teachers show a basic competency level in demonstrating knowledge and skills in information and data management. Moreover, teachers reported being proficient in demonstrating knowledge and skills in basic computer operation and other information devices, including basic troubleshooting and maintenance and the use of office and teaching productivity tools. Training can be provided to teachers on technology operations and concepts to further advance their skills and competence which can be applied in their teaching and learning process.

Management of Personal Information among Library Staff at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Effective management of personal information is pivotal for its sustainable use. This article presents a study that has assessed the personal information anagement (PIM) practices of library staff at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). The study used a descriptive research design deploying both qualitative and quantitative approaches under which questionnaire and focus group discussion guide were used to collect data. While qualitative data were subjected to content analysis, statistical analysis was used to generate descriptive and inferential statistics from quantitative data using IBM SPSS version 23. The findings have revealed that librarians at are generally aware of various PIM practices and use them to manage their personal information. The librarians use both physical and electronic tools to manage their personal information. These tools include physical folders, files, and boxes, which are used to manage physical information, and Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud which are used to manage electronic information. Several factors influence the effectiveness of librarians’ PIM practices. These include librarians’ demographic characteristics (age and levels of education), knowledge of the information cycle, information management skills, and available information systems. Factors such as inadequate information management skills and shortage of time have been found to undermine the effectiveness of the studied population’s PIM practices. The study concludes that understanding factors that influence and undermine effective PIM practices is essential in setting a foundation for improving personal information management.

Predictors affecting personal digital information management activities: A hierarchical regression analysis

The study aimed to investigate the influence of demographic characteristics, Internet use, computer knowledge and technology self-efficacy on personal digital information management (PIM) activities – information finding, information keeping, information organising and information re-finding. The design of the study was quantitative and a survey method was used to get the objectives of the study. Three independent institutes of art and design – the Institute of Art and Culture, the National College of Arts and Design and the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design – were chosen as the research setting of the study. The population of the study was an academic community of three art and design institutes. The questionnaire was distributed to faculty and students of respective institutes and 229 responses were received after follow-up. The findings of the study indicated that both demographic characteristics and technology-related factors influenced the arts and design academic community’s PIM activities. However, the second set of variables – Internet use, computer knowledge and technology self-efficacy influenced more than demographic variables on PIM activities. Academic role, university and technology self-efficacy appeared significant predictors of all PIM activities. The findings might be helpful for arts and design institutes librarians to make strategies to improve academic community’s personal information management skills. In arts and design institutes, better efficiency in faculty and students’ PIM could be achieved if PIM literacy programmes are designed paying attention to differentials in demographic factors and technology-related factors, as revealed in this study.

Digital literacy skills of university students with visual impairment: A mixed-methods analysis

Both for new higher education students and especially for individuals with visual impairment (VI), becoming digitally literate is a necessity in order to be able to fully participate in society and to overcome certain educational barriers. This study explores the digital literacy (DL) skills of university students in Turkey with VI, along with the factors that can affect DL levels. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from 60 participants during the first phase of the study through an online survey consisting of demographic questions and the DL Scale. Qualitative data were collected via semi-structured interviews held with eight participants as the second phase. The study found quite high levels for several self-reported technical and cognitive sub-factors of DL skills, and lower levels for the social sub-factor. Comparative analysis revealed no significant difference between gender, level of VI, and type of school. The results showed that daily use of the Internet had a significant positive effect on DL scores, and that there was a negative correlation between DL and age of starting to use technology. The qualitative findings suggested that the participants already possessed basic DL skills such as accessing information and creating files; however, they lacked skills in information management, effective collaboration, communication, and in digital content creation. The study sheds light on factors affecting DL of VI students and discusses implications for both researchers and practitioners.
