INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES FOR IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION

With the advancement in information communication technology ICT and its introduction in the field of agriculture, thecommunity has to shift from conventional ways to technology oriented solutions. In this paper, a mapping study researchtechnique was adopted to identify evidences related to irrigation systems developed for efficient use of water. The studyfindings showed that proposed solutions were quite advance, expensive and were largely used by agriculture scientistrather than farmers. Therefore, simple and efficient ICT tools were required to address farmers’ requirements andadoption of such solutions to be evaluated in real environments. In case of Pakistan, situation was not very different dueto low digital literacy rate. Therefore, proposed smart solutions for irrigation require thorough evaluation by farmers.

Are pre‐service teachers disinclined to utilise embodied humanoid social robots in the classroom?

AbstractTeachers' readiness for technology integration depends also on their beliefs about the contribution of technology to teaching and learning, which influence their motivation for its adoption. Initial pre‐service teacher education is critical in reducing the attitude‐behaviour divide supporting technology acceptability, acceptance and use. Acceptance of interaction between human and robot is more complicated than human‐computer interaction acceptance. Social robots are radical innovations, harder for potential users to accept in human social spaces than are incremental innovations. In 2019, a survey using a convenience sample of 121 first‐year students was conducted to examine pre‐service teachers' beliefs about social robot educational technology. It examined the following factors derived from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology adopted for social robots in education: Perceived social dimension, Intention to use, Perceived usability, Anxiety. Based on our findings, it seems there is a critical disjunction between researchers' efforts to equip social robots with human manners and social intelligence and participants' rejection of this technology precisely because it mimics being human. Further, we report that ICT familiarity as assessed using PISA's Information Communication Technology—ICT familiarity factors is related to robot acceptability. These findings need further examination to inform educational robotics design and Human‐Robot Interaction research and teacher education and training. Practitioners notesWhat is already known about this topic In the age of robotic technology, teachers face requirements to prepare students for work and life with social robots. Social robots are tested for classroom integration. Teachers' readiness to implement robot lessons depends on their beliefs about social robotic technology's contribution to teaching. Research and development in the field of social robotics still tend to focus more frequently on technology applications rather than pedagogical issues and advancing teaching and learning. What this paper adds Participants refuse to accept the idea of social robot‐based instruction. The identified belief pattern is based mainly on the perceived social dimension, intention to use, perceived usability and anxiety. Participants critically perceive the robot's social dimension. Some of PISA's ICT familiarity factors are related to robots acceptability factors. Implication for policy and/or practice The policy and practice need to address how social robots could be integrated into current teaching and learning practices and more importantly how could robotic technology facilitate innovative pedagogical models for effective and efficient learning. The introduction of social robots should follow instructional design requirements and not merely technological advancement. Teacher initial education has to provide social robotic learning environments for pre‐service teachers to experiment and design.

Impact of information communication technology on academic library and its services

An academic library is attached to a higher education institution and serves two complementary purposes: to support the curriculum, and research of the university faculty and students. It is unknown how many academic libraries there are worldwide. Academic libraries must determine a focus for collection development since comprehensive collections are not feasible. These collections may include original papers, artwork, and artifacts written or created by a single author or about a specific subject. But because of information communication technology ICT academic library will connected with each other with specific network academic libraries typically provide access to subscription-based online resources, including research databases and ebook collections, in addition to physical books and journals. ICT play a crucial role in development of library building, library book collection, user data, book acquisition, delivery of information, information exchange service providing like current awareness service and selective dissemination of information, reference service at lower cost, faster and up to date information to the end user. ICT in academic libraries lend out technology such as video cameras, iPads, and calculators. To reflect this changing focus, many academic libraries have remodeled as Learning Common Academic libraries and learning commons often house tutoring and writing centers and other academic services using information communication technology.

English digital material development of information communication technology ICT in higher vocational education

The advancement of technology in the global era has driven PNB to collaborate with ASEAN country members for globalized teaching practice which is aligned with PNB’s vision and mission. The digital-English course has been one of the fundamental courses in Tourism Department of Politeknik Negeri Bali (PNB). It serves the market demand nationally and globally where the skills of teaching and skills of Information Technology IT need to be obtained. However, the potentials of employing digital teaching materials in the course have not been optimized. This paper examines the effectiveness of digital-learning materials through learning management system (LMS) of English Discoveries (ED) towards the students’ achievement in English. By applying quantitative and qualitative analysis, the students’ English improvements were identified after giving treatments. Results of the analysis revealed that students who were given treatments had higher scores than those taught using a conventional method, which means that the digital-learning materials was proved effective in improving students’ English proficiency. Additionally, they were highly motivated in learning English when the lecturer gave them digital materials. Therefore, it is suggested that the lecturer requires being creative in facilitating the teaching-learning process through providing online source of learning.

A Survey on the Usage of ICT in Pedagogy of Science

<div><p><em>Information Communication Technology ICT has impacted the learning world. Educational systems have witnessed changes in the pedagogical approaches with the advent of ICT.</em></p><p><em>The survey of ten science teachers of ten different schools of Lucknow was done to the how ICT is being used as in the classroom pedagogy. The self prepare questionnaire was used. The data was collected from the science teachers. The findings are interesting. It was found that few science subjects the ICT and its applications are used optimally but some others were very less benefited by ICT. The findings also discusses the readiness of the science teachers for the usage of different types of ICT in teaching and management role in engaging and encouraging the opportunities for the usage of ICT in science teachings were explored.</em></p></div>

An investigation of the benefit of using IT in the context of university students with ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD is estimated to affect approximately 11% of the university populations which make it the second most prevalent disorder among North American university populations. This disorder impacts such students when it comes to keeping up with academic loads, study skills, and social life. Technology has the capability to improve mental health services. In the last decade, Australia has become one of the leading countries in providing e-mental health services and so a study has been designed to investigate possibilities in this country. The study design outlined in this paper proffers a possibility for applying information communication technology ICT solution to facilitate the current treatment/management of ADHD in university students.

Los tropiezos en la implementación de las TICs en la educación superior

Impact of Local Area Network and their Applications in Library and Information Services

Local Area Networks (LANs), which are defined as a collection of computers interconnected within a limited geographical area, such as a home, school, college, computer laboratory and library building, have been used since the inception of networking concept to improve library facilities. Though, Information Communication Technology ICT advancement has given the advantage of accessing information in networked environment through wide area network, but the applications of LANs are still relevant for the libraries. This paper gives a basic introduction of LANs and their usage in library and information science.

ICT Readiness of Higher Institution Libraries in Nigeria

This article surveys the Information Communication Technology ICT readiness of higher institution libraries in Delta State, Nigeria. By means of questionnaires and observation techniques, data were collected from the higher institution libraries. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the data generated. Findings revealed the higher institution libraries ICT demographics, available ICT facilities and equipment, critical service areas automated in these libraries, as well as constraints to ICT use to include poor funding, inadequate skilled manpower, non reliability of electricity supply, inadequate technical support, and poor implementation of policies and lack of maintenance. The study concludes that higher institution libraries in Delta State, Nigeria, are yet to fully embrace ICT in library and information service delivery. Some recommendations that can facilitate the use of ICT in these libraries were also set forth.

NDimensional Modeling Technology: Past, Present, and Future

The term n dimensional modeling nD is gaining increased usage in the field of information communication technologies ICTs in construction; the concept is heightened by the £0.5-millionfunded three-dimensional 3D to nD modeling project at the University of Salford in the United Kingdom. nD modeling is an evolution of the four-dimensional modeling concept and aims to integrate an nth number of design dimensions into a holistic model that enables users to portray and visually project a building design over its complete life cycle. nD modeling is an extension of the building information model BIM , a concept first introduced in the 1970s that has been the basis of considerable research in construction IT ever since. The idea evolved with the introduction of object-oriented computer-aided design CAD ; the “objects” in these CAD systems e.g., doors, walls, windows, roofs can also store nongraphical data about the building in a logical structure. We therefore define an nD model as an extension of BIM by incorporating all the design information required at each stage of the life cycle of a building facility. However, implementing BIM on real-life projects has presented significant challenges, which range from interoperability to integrating knowledge from multiple-domain points of view. In recent years, leading CAD vendors have promoted BIM heavily with their own solutions. However, because these solutions are based on different, noncompatible standards, an open and neutral data format is required to ensure data interoperability across the different applications. In fact, the construction industry has been facing this problem for many years. Research into the development of standard data models has recently been quite substantial.
