In addition, imitating dubbed dramas had an impact on prevalence of this phenomenon.

Marital Infidelity among Married Couples: Roles of Emotional Intelligence and Narcissistic Personality Traits in Makurdi, Benue State

This study investigated emotional intelligence and narcissistic personality traits as predictors of marital infidelity in Makurdi Metropolis Benue State. Two hundred married couples from the area, who had been married for up to five years (2018 - 2022), participated in this cross-sectional research. The sample consisted of 96 (48%) males and 104 (52%) females, with an average mean age of X=2.64, and standard deviation of SD=.80850. The Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale, Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale (HSNS), and Marital Infidelity Scale (MIS) were used for data collection. Simple linear and multiple linear regression analysis were employed to test three hypotheses. The results indicated that emotional intelligence significantly predicted marital infidelity among married couples in Makurdi Metropolis [R=.418, R2=174 F (1,194) = 40.973, p<.01]. Similarly, narcissistic personality traits significantly predicted marital infidelity among couples in the same area [R=.418, R2=174 F(1,194) = 40.973, p<.01]. Additionally, the combination of emotional intelligence and narcissistic personality traits had a significant predictive influence on marital infidelity [R = .435, R2 = .189, F(2,187) = 21.627 p<.01]. Based on these findings, it is recommended that couples improve on willingness to communicate - communication skills and understanding of each other’s emotions is very important before making and taking any actions. This can help navigate conflicts and challenges more effectively. Marital Institutions can offer comprehensive pre-marital counselling programs that include discussions on emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and relationship expectations.

The Mediating Role of Marital Intimacy in Relation with Midlife Crisis with a Tendency toward Infidelity in Middle-Aged Men

Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of marital intimacy in relation between midlife crisis and the tendency to infidelity in middle-aged men. Methods: This was a correlational research with structural equation modeling method. The statistical population of this research was made up of all men aged 40 to 60 in Razavi Khorasan province, 200 of whom were selected by convenience sampling and answered the questionnaires of marital intimacy, mid-life identity crisis, and tendency to infidelity. Data analysis was done using structural equation method using SPSS and AMOS softwares. Findings: The results of this research showed that the assumed model has a good fit. Also, the results of the analysis indicated a direct relationship between the tendency to infidelity and the midlife crisis, and there was an indirect relationship between the midlife crisis through marital intimacy on the tendency to cheat. Also, marital intimacy has an inverse and significant relationship with the independent variable of the midlife crisis, as well as marital infidelity. It has a direct and significant relationship with midlife crisis, and there is an inverse and significant relationship (-0.643) between marital infidelity and marital intimacy. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that marital intimacy has been able to play a mediating role between midlife crisis and the tendency toward infidelity. So, marital intimacy and midlife crisis can play an influential role in married life and the tendency of people to commit marital infidelity. Therefore, it is necessary to provide appropriate knowledge and training to couples who are exposed to these injuries.

Sexual satisfaction and attitude toward marital infidelity among married people in Iran: the role of social media and entertainment preferences

Background and purposeSexual satisfaction and attitudes toward marital infidelity are crucial components of marital quality and well-being. This study investigates the impact of social media and entertainment preferences on these aspects among married couples in Iran, acknowledging the sociocultural nuances unique to the region.Method and materialA cross-sectional survey design was employed, gathering data from 1,756 married participants through an online questionnaire in Iran. Variables included social media and entertainment preferences, sexual satisfaction, attitude toward marital infidelity, and demographic details. Descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test), and GLM (Generalized linear model) were used for exploration.ResultsKey results reveal significant associations between demographic factors, social media usage, and attitudes toward marital infidelity. Notable trends include higher sexual satisfaction among younger participants (p < 0.05), those with shorter marital durations (p < 0.01), and those residing outside Tehran (p < 0.001). Attitudes toward marital infidelity were influenced by gender, age, ethnicity, income levels, and social media habits, reflecting a complex interplay of factors. The GLM analysis emphasizes the impact of variables such as marital duration, ethnicity, spouse’s education, Iranian social media usage, and attitudes toward marital infidelity on sexual satisfaction. Participants with shorter marriages (p < 0.01), higher spouse education (p < 0.05), and more frequent Iranian social media usage (p < 0.001) reported higher sexual satisfaction.ConclusionsThis study explores the dynamics of marital relationships in Iran, examining the interconnections between demographics, media habits, sexual satisfaction, and attitudes toward infidelity. The findings provide valuable insights into factors influencing marital satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of considering cultural contexts. Robust statistical methods, including Generalized Linear Models, support the reliability of results. The study contributes to understanding non-western marital dynamics, highlighting implications for research and interventions in the digital age.

Submissive housewives, unfaithful spouses, dysfunctional marriages and violence: the portrayal of gender roles and marriage in Moroccan jokes

ABSTRACT This paper examines Moroccan marital discourse as portrayed in popular culture, specifically jokes that circulate orally and online. Our analysis focuses on fifty jokes related to husbands, wives, and marriage. We employed content analysis for the entire dataset and critical discourse analysis (CDA) using Van Dijk's ‘socio-cognitive’ method for a subset of jokes. The study reveals prevalent stereotypes and societal views on husbands and wives, with a special emphasis on the role of women in Moroccan marriages. These views represent shared ideologies, influencing how individuals in society think, speak, act, and interact. The humour reflects marital conflicts, infidelity, and misogyny as commonplace. Several jokes normalise violence and animosity toward wives. The selected jokes predominantly depict women as passive, insecure, nagging, and reliant on their husbands, who are the primary breadwinners. Women’s contributions to the family are typically limited to motherhood and cooking, and their concerns are shown to be trivial. Negative portrayals of wives, a prevalence of jokes in which females are engaged in infidelity, and reinforcement of traditional gender roles demonstrates a societal concern with regulating the female body and maintaining patriarchy.

A sexual empowerment process predicting heterosexual women’s sexual pleasure

ABSTRACT Gender-based inequities within patriarchy create barriers to women’s sexual well-being. This study integrated empowerment theory with research on heterosexual women’s sexuality to examine multiple factors related to sexual pleasure. An empowerment process is one mechanism through which less powerful individuals gain influence and power that results in increased opportunities to control decisions that affect their lives. Although psychologists have been studying empowerment for decades, sexual empowerment has been under-explored. In this study, 253 heterosexual undergraduate women completed a questionnaire assessing sexual empowerment dimensions, including critical consciousness about gender and sexuality, sexual subjectivity, sexual assertiveness, and sexual pleasure. Data were analysed with structural equation modelling. A mediated sexual empowerment process in which critical consciousness was indirectly related to sexual pleasure through two mediators, sexual subjectivity and sexual assertiveness, was supported. To the extent that women can reject heteronormative beliefs and conform less to patriarchal norms of sexual fidelity, they may be able to realise more sexual subjectivity, assertiveness, and pleasure. This study has implications for rights-based sexual education and pleasure-inclusive clinical practice.

Structural Equation Modeling Modeling of the Tendency Toward Marital Infidelity Based on Significant Five Personality Factors Mediated by Attachment Styles and Sexual Satisfaction

Background: The evaluation of the tendency to marital infidelity is essential based on the influential personality factor mediated by attachment styles and sexual satisfaction. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the structural relationships of the tendency to commit marital infidelity based on the orientation of dialogue and listening and conformity with the mediation of attachment styles and sexual satisfaction. Methods: This study was conducted on all men and women referred to counseling centers in Mashhad, among whom 220 people were selected using the multi-stage cluster sampling method. The data collection tools included the tendency towards extramarital relationships, the Big 5-factor questionnaire, the Hazen and Shaver adult attachment style questionnaire, and the Hudson-Harris and Crosscup sexual satisfaction questionnaire. Results: The five personality factors of neuroticism, extroversion, openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness could predict the tendency to marital infidelity both directly and through three secure and avoidant attachment styles. Conclusions: Based on the results, personality factors influenced extramarital relationships directly and indirectly, which can be used in premarital therapy to educate couples.

The Causal Relationship Between Early Maladaptive Schemas and Attachment Styles with Attitudes Toward Marital Infidelity Among Married Men and Women

Objective: The present study aimed to develop a causal model of the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and attachment styles with attitudes toward marital infidelity among married men and women attending counseling centers in Tonekabon. Methods and Materials: This research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of methodology, conducted as a survey using the statistical method of structural equation modeling. A total of 75 individuals, both men and women attending counseling centers in Tonekabon, were selected using simple random sampling to test the hypotheses and model fit. Data were collected using the Young Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaire (1998), the Hazan and Shaver Attachment Styles Questionnaire (1998), and the Mark Whitley Marital Infidelity Questionnaire (2009). Data were analyzed using SPSS22 and SmartPLS3 software. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to assess the normality of data, confirmatory factor analysis was employed to validate the questions and identify key factors of each component, and structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the fit of the research model. Findings: Based on the results, the causal relationship model of the aforementioned variables exhibited an acceptable fit. The results indicated that all fitness indices showed the model's alignment with the data. Overall, in the proposed research model, all paths were significant, thus confirming the hypotheses related to these paths. Additionally, the findings revealed that early maladaptive schemas had a significant positive effect on attitudes toward marital infidelity (β = 3.338), secure attachment styles on attitudes toward marital infidelity (β = 4.048), avoidant attachment styles on attitudes toward marital infidelity (β = 2.946), and ambivalent attachment styles on attitudes toward marital infidelity (β = 3.925), all of which are greater than the value of 1.96, indicating a significant positive effect at a 95% confidence level. Attachment styles, through early maladaptive schemas, had a significant indirect effect on attitudes toward marital infidelity among married men and women attending counseling centers in Tonekabon. Conclusion: The findings suggest that as the level of early maladaptive schemas and attachment styles change in clients, their attitudes toward marital infidelity increase correspondingly.

Effectiveness of Integrative Couple Therapy on Sexual Function, Marital Intimacy, and Impulsivity in Women Affected by Marital Infidelity

Objective: One of the most significant factors that can disrupt family health is the breaking of commitment and exclusivity in emotional and sexual relationships and the creation of extramarital relationships, namely marital infidelity. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of integrative couple therapy on sexual function, marital intimacy, and impulsivity in women affected by marital infidelity. Materials and Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research with a pre-test, post-test, and three-month follow-up design, accompanied by a control group. The study population included all women affected by marital infidelity who sought help from Yarigar and Organic counseling centers in Tehran during the first six months of 2023. According to the counseling centers' officials, the total number of these individuals was 93. The study sample consisted of 30 women affected by marital infidelity who referred to counseling centers in District 2 of Tehran in 2023, selected through purposive sampling and then randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using the Marital Intimacy Scale, the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, and the Female Sexual Function Index. In this study, the experimental group underwent emotion-focused therapy in 9 sessions (one 90-minute session per week). Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and SPSS software version 22. Findings: The results showed that integrative couple therapy effectively increased sexual function (F=54.5, P&lt;0.001), marital intimacy (F=9.00, P&lt;0.001), and decreased impulsivity (F=7.09, P&lt;0.001) in women affected by marital infidelity. Conclusion: It can be concluded that integrative couple therapy is effective in improving sexual function, marital intimacy, and impulsivity in women affected by marital infidelity and can be used to reduce the psychological problems of these women.

Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment-Based Couples Therapy on Attitudes Towards Marital Infidelity and Emotional Regulation in Married Women

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of acceptance and commitment-based couples therapy on attitudes toward marital infidelity and emotional regulation in married women. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study conducted using pre-test, post-test, and follow-up methods. The study population consisted of 30 married women visiting psychological services and counseling centers in Tehran in the fall of 2022, who were selected using a convenience sampling method and were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control groups. The experimental group received acceptance and commitment-based couples therapy, while the control group received no training. The standard questionnaire on the tendency toward marital infidelity by Bashirpour et al. (2018) and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale by Gratz and Roemer (2004) were distributed among all the study participants. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with SPSS software version 22. Findings: The results showed that couples therapy based on acceptance and commitment had a significant effect on attitudes toward infidelity (F = 57.26, p &lt; .001) and emotional regulation (F = 26.64, p &lt; .001) in married women. Conclusion: It can be concluded that acceptance and commitment-based couples therapy is effective in influencing attitudes towards marital infidelity and emotional regulation in married women and can be used to improve the quality of married life.

Effectiveness of Ellis's Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy on Marital Beliefs and Marital Satisfaction in Women Affected by Infidelity

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) on marital beliefs and marital satisfaction in women affected by marital infidelity. Methods and Materials: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 30 women affected by marital infidelity in Tehran, who were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 15) or the control group (n = 15). The experimental group received 10 sessions of REBT intervention, while the control group did not receive any intervention. The instruments used included the Relationship Belief Inventory (RBI) and the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale. Data were analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) and related statistical tests. Findings: The results showed that REBT significantly reduced irrational relational beliefs and increased marital satisfaction in women affected by infidelity. The experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in scores on marital beliefs and satisfaction compared to the control group after the therapeutic intervention. The findings of the multivariate analysis of covariance also confirmed the significant impact of REBT intervention on improving the studied variables. Conclusion: These findings indicate the high effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in changing irrational beliefs and increasing marital satisfaction in women affected by marital infidelity. However, it is recommended that future research with larger sample sizes and long-term follow-ups be conducted to examine the more sustained effects of this therapy.

Comparison of the Effectiveness of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy Based on Attachment Injury Model and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on Positive Feelings Toward Spouse and Withdrawal from Divorce

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy based on the Attachment Injury Model and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on positive feelings toward the spouse and withdrawal from divorce in working women in the healthcare sector affected by marital infidelity in Lorestan Province during the COVID19 pandemic. Methods and Materials: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pre-test and post-test design with control and experimental groups. The statistical population included working women in the healthcare sector of Lorestan Province who had sought counseling due to their spouse's marital infidelity during the COVID-19 period. Thirty women were randomly divided into three groups: Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, ACT, and a control group. Data collection tools included the Positive Feelings Toward Spouse Questionnaire and the Roselt Divorce Desire Questionnaire. The therapeutic interventions were conducted over eight 90-minute sessions across two months. Findings: The results indicated that both approaches, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and ACT, significantly increased positive feelings toward the spouse and reduced the desire for divorce compared to the control group. Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy relatively showed more effectiveness in enhancing positive feelings toward the spouse. Repeated measures ANOVA indicated significant differences between groups and interactive effects of time and group. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that both therapeutic approaches, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and ACT, can effectively improve positive feelings toward the spouse and reduce the desire for divorce in working women in the healthcare sector affected by marital infidelity. These findings can aid counselors and therapists in providing more effective interventions and facilitate the improvement of quality of life and marital relationships.

Effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy on Emotional Control, Communication Patterns, and Marital Intimacy in Women with Marital Infidelity Experience

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) on emotional control, communication patterns, and marital intimacy in women experiencing marital infidelity in the city of Isfahan. Methods and Materials: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design including control and experimental groups. The statistical population of this research consisted of all women with marital infidelity experience who referred to counseling centers in Isfahan in 2023. The research sample comprised 45 women with marital infidelity experience, who were selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two groups: the DBT experimental group and the emotion-focused therapy (EFT) group, as well as a control group. Data were collected using the Marital Infidelity Questionnaire by Yeniseri and Kokdemir (2006), the Emotion Regulation Scale by Williams, Chamless, and Aheratz (1997), the Communication Patterns Questionnaire by Christensen and Salovey (1984), the Marital Intimacy Questionnaire by Bagarozi (2001), and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire by Gross and John (2003). Data analysis was conducted using univariate and multivariate covariance analysis. Findings: The results indicated that Dialectical Behavior Therapy effectively improved emotional control, communication patterns, and marital intimacy in women. Conclusion: The findings indicate that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is effective in improving emotional control, communication patterns, and marital intimacy in women experiencing marital infidelity. The results support the use of DBT as a valuable intervention for enhancing psychological well-being and relationship satisfaction among affected individuals.

Comparing the Effectiveness of Schema Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy on Attitudes Towards Infidelity Among Individuals Experiencing Marital Conflict

Objective: Marital conflict is one of the serious problems in couples' interactions, which is considered as the cause of marital infidelity or divorce in many cases. This research was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of schema therapy and emotion focused therapy on the attitude towards marital infidelity of people with marital conflict. Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with two experimental groups and a control group along with a follow-up test period. From the statistical population of women referring to the clinics of the 1st district of Tehran, 45 people were selected using the available method and replaced in three groups using a random method. Whatley's marital infidelity questionnaire (2006) was used. First, the pre-test of the attitude towards extrapolation was implemented for all three groups, then schema therapy (Yang, 2003) and emotion focused therapy (Greenberg, 2004) were implemented for the experimental groups, but no intervention was applied for the control group; Finally, the post-test and the follow-up test were performed for all three groups. Findings: The results of the repeated measurement test showed that both schema therapy and emotion focused groups are effective in reducing attitudes towards marital infidelity (f=8.447 and p=0.001). Bonferroni's post hoc test showed that there is no significant difference in the effectiveness of the two schema therapy and emotion focused approaches. Conclusion: To improve the attitude towards marital infidelity of people with marital conflict, it is suggested to use both schema therapy and emotion focused interventions.

The Effectiveness of Strength-Based Intervention on Attitude Toward Marital Infidelity and Sexual Self-Concept in Women with Marital Conflict

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a strength-based intervention on altering attitudes toward marital infidelity and enhancing sexual self-concept among women experiencing marital conflict. Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was employed with 30 women from the Mehravar Counseling Center in Tehran, divided equally into intervention and control groups. The intervention consisted of eight 75-minute sessions based on strength-based principles. Data were collected at three points using the Attitudes Towards Infidelity Scale (ATIS) and the Sexual Self-Concept Inventory (SSCI). Statistical analysis was conducted using ANOVA with repeated measurements and Bonferroni post-hoc tests, utilizing SPSS-27. Findings: The intervention group showed significant improvements in both measured outcomes. Attitudes toward marital infidelity decreased from a pre-test mean of 42.53 (SD = 5.67) to 37.82 (SD = 5.12) at follow-up. Sexual self-concept increased from a pre-test mean of 30.88 (SD = 4.45) to 35.64 (SD = 3.72) at follow-up. The ANOVA results revealed significant time effects and time x group interactions for both variables (p &lt; .001). Conclusion: The strength-based intervention was effective in significantly improving attitudes toward marital infidelity and sexual self-concept among women with marital conflicts. These findings suggest that such interventions can be beneficial in marital counseling settings, offering a promising approach for enhancing marital satisfaction and individual well-being.

Comparison of the Effectiveness of Transactional Analysis Therapy and Narrative Therapy on Fear of Intimacy in Women Affected by Marital Infidelity

Objective: The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of Transactional Analysis Therapy and Narrative Therapy on the fear of intimacy in women affected by marital infidelity. Methods and Materials: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pre-test, post-test design and a control group with a follow-up period. The statistical population of this study included all women affected by their spouses' infidelity who referred to counseling centers in District 4 of Tehran in 2022. A total of 45 participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. The instrument used in this research was Pollard's Fear of Intimacy Scale (IFS) (1998). The intervention included Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis (1950) and White's Narrative Therapy protocol (2017), conducted in 8 group sessions of 120 minutes each, twice a week, for the first and second experimental groups. Data were analyzed using mixed ANOVA. Findings: The results of the analysis showed a significant difference in the fear of intimacy between the groups in the post-test and follow-up (P&lt;0.05). The results indicated that Transactional Analysis Therapy was significantly more effective than Narrative Therapy in reducing the fear of intimacy in women affected by their spouses' infidelity, with a significant difference observed between the two therapies (P&lt;0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between Transactional Analysis Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

Investigating the Effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on Self-Compassion and Experiential Avoidance in Women Who Have Experienced Marital Infidelity

Objective: Marital infidelity is one of the most significant threats to the stability of marital relationships and a leading cause of divorce across various cultures. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on self-compassion and experiential avoidance in women who have experienced marital infidelity. Methods: The current research was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design, involving experimental and control groups and a three-month follow-up. All women who had experienced marital infidelity and attended psychotherapy and counseling clinics in Tehran during the year 2021-2022 constituted the statistical population of this study, from which 30 were selected via convenience sampling based on the inclusion criteria and randomly assigned to two equal groups of 15. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003) and the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire - Second Version (Bond et al., 2007). Participants in the experimental group received 8 sessions of intervention. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance with SPSS version 26. Findings: The mean self-compassion score and its dimensions in the experimental group significantly improved post-intervention compared to the control group (p &lt; 0.05). Cognitive-behavioral therapy was beneficial in reducing experiential avoidance in the experimental group, unlike the control group (p &lt; 0.05). The effects of this therapeutic program on dependent variables continued during the three-month follow-up period (p &lt; 0.05). Conclusion: Cognitive-behavioral exercises can be used as an effective intervention method to improve the cognitive-emotional status of women who have experienced marital infidelity.

Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment-Based Couple Therapy on Communication Patterns and Marital Infidelity in Married Individuals

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment-Based Couple Therapy (ACT) on communication patterns and marital infidelity among married individuals in Yazd. Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental. The population consisted of all married individuals attending psychological counseling and service centers in Meybod. Using questionnaires on communication patterns and marital infidelity, and employing purposive sampling, 20 couples with higher scores were selected from a pool of 50 couples. They were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (10 couples) or the control group (10 couples). The experimental group underwent Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, while the control group received no treatment. Post-tests were administered to both groups. Results, analyzed using covariance analysis. Findings: Findings showed that Acceptance and Commitment-Based Couple Therapy significantly impacts the communication patterns of married individuals. Additionally, it significantly affects marital infidelity among married individuals. Conclusion: Thus, ACT can be used to enhance couple’s relationship and prevent infidelity and divorce.

Comparing the Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy in Improving Distress Tolerance and Self-Compassion in Women with Experiences of Marital Infidelity

Objective: Distress tolerance and self-compassion play a significant role in mitigating the harm caused by the experience of infidelity. This study compares the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) in improving distress tolerance and self-compassion among women who have experienced marital infidelity. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pre-test, post-test, follow-up design with a control group. The study population included women who had experienced infidelity by their spouse and sought counseling and psychotherapy services in Tehran in the year 2021. From this population, using purposive sampling, 45 women were selected based on the study's criteria and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group (15 per group). The first experimental group received cognitive behavioral therapy, and the second received compassion-focused therapy. The control group did not receive any intervention. Data were collected using the Distress Tolerance Scale (Simons &amp; Gaher, 2005) and the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003). Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and SPSS software version 22. Findings: The results showed that both distress tolerance and self-compassion scores in the cognitive-behavioral and compassion-focused therapy groups were higher in the post-test compared to the pre-test (p&lt;0.01). Furthermore, a comparison of the two experimental groups revealed no significant difference in scores of distress tolerance and self-compassion between the groups. Conclusion: It can be concluded that both cognitive-behavioral therapy and compassion-focused therapy were equally effective in improving distress tolerance and self-compassion among women.
