Users, Vehicles Electrics, and Energy Markets in Colombia

The Colombian government approved Law 1964 of 2019, which is expected to favor the massification of electric vehicle technologies. Since 2010, this technological migration has begun, which has not managed to have a substantial impact on the automotive sector. The research reviewed the industry's regulatory framework and identified variables that impact the market. Through the MICMAC methodology, they are evaluated to establish the key variables that can influence the other variables. The results obtained identify that the price of electricity and the lack of knowledge or business models are critical elements in improving the development of the electric vehicle sector. These results indicate that it is necessary to propose methodological changes to decrease the price of electricity and promote the development of business models so that users take an active role in the market.

Foundations of industrial policy in the countries with different levels of development: lessons for Ukraine

Relevance of the research topic is due to the need of developed and developing states of the world in renaissance and improvement of industrial policy as a key instrument of economic development strategy in a globalizing world. Formulation of the problem. The efficiency of industrial policy in countries with different level of development depends on the fact how principles the policy is based on take into consideration the starting national conditions and requirements and trends of global market. For the countries with the same levels of income it is possible to determine the common directions of industrial development strategies and efficient tools of industrial policy. Under similar starting conditions differences in approaches to industrial policy may also determine the differences in results of its implementation; under different starting conditions they can entail the smoothing out of economic performance and a rapid convergence of economies.Analysis of recent research and publications. In spite of the multiple attempts to generalize the approaches and instruments of industrial policy for groups of countries the search of optimal design of industrial policy is still going on, what makes the adoption of important industrial development regulations complicated and is the reason of bitter discussions between the branches of authorities in the course of formation of Strategy of Ukrainian industrial complex development, legislative regulation of «industrial visa-free» and export duties on some types of feedstock. Setting the task, the purpose of the study. The purpose of the study is generalization of the experience of industrial policies in countries with different levels of economic development and justification of the need to use it in setting the basic principles of domestic industrial policies. Method or methodology for conducting research. In the research we used general and specific scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction, historical, comparison, dialectical method of knowledge; also methods of statistical analysis, monographic research for countries’ experience, expert assessment method for elaboration the recommendations on industrial policy implementation in transformation economies. Presentation of the main material (results of work). The industrial policy of three groups of countries – with high, middle and low income – are studied due to their historical development. Socioeconomic and institutional conditions of countries, where the implementation of a certain type of industrial policy had positive or negative results, were determined. The analysis of the Ukrainian industrial performance and industrial policy showed that the policy should be revised according to the relevance of instruments and measures to the challenges of internal and global environment. The priority directions of industrial development are determined and the key principles of industrial policy in Ukraine are justified based on foreign experience. The field of application of results. The results of this research can be applied in the process of industrial regulatory framework formation, in the Concept of state industrial policy and the Strategy of industrial development elaboration by central executive authorities, and in the preparation of relevant sections of programs of regions’ socioeconomic and cultural development. Conclusions according to the article. In the study it is determined that these are the protectionism measures and innovation activity stimulation which are the base of the modern industrial policies in the countries with a high level of development; the middle-income countries should prioritize innovation and technology policies; the low-income states including Ukraine should focus on industrial modernization, import substitution, and the integration into global value chains in order to accelerate their socioeconomic development and strengthen the competitiveness over the world markets.

An Outline of Construction Law in Kenya

The construction industry in Kenya has recently been experiencing problems ranging from collapsing houses to shoddy road construction. These problems have been prevalent despite the fact that Kenya has a robust industry regulatory framework. This work underscores the importance of the construction industry and outlines the existing regulatory framework in Kenya. It aims to briefly inform players in the construction industry in Kenya of the existing law which they are called upon to observe in order uplift quality standards.

The repeal of prohibition and the resurgence of the national breweries

PurposeThis paper, applies the concept of path creation to a historical case. Path creation arose in part as a response to perceived weaknesses regarding the limited role of firm agency in the path dependency literature.Design/methodology/approachThis essay uses the path creation methodology to explain why and how specific features of the American brewing industry's regulatory framework were devised during prohibition (1920‐1933) and implemented upon the repeal of prohibition in 1933. The study draws upon a series of primary sources, including firm publications and government reports.FindingsIt shows that path creation is a useful way to examine the design and implementation of industry‐level regulatory systems. It argues that rather than passively waiting and hoping for a beneficial set of rules, the largest national breweries in America actively set about to shape the regulatory environment in which they and their competitors operated.Originality/valueThe study is valuable on two levels. First, it helps explicate how and why the brewing industry's current regulatory system emerged. Second, and more broadly, it shows how the path creation thesis can be usefully adopted to interpret firm and managerial actions across time periods and industries.

The Monopoly Value of Household-Goods Carrier Operating Certificates

ACCORDING to the producer-protection hypothesis, a common rationale for the economic regulation of industry is the generation of monopoly gains for producer interests.' This implies that an industry will lobby for such regulation and that it will be primarily designed to benefit that industry.2 Monopoly gains can be generated if regulation is successful in converting an otherwise competitive or oligopolistic industry into a government-enforced cartel. As Jordan argues, the economic effects of such regulation would tend to be higher prices, a discriminatory price structure, restricted entry, and under certain conditions, greater industry profits.3 The producer-protection hypothesis is tested in this study with respect to motor carriers of household goods. A protective regulatory framework within which higher than competitive rates have been established would be expected to generate monopoly gains for household-goods carriers unless rising costs under regulation have offset increased revenues. The importance of this measure as a test of the producer-protection hypothesis is obvious while attempts to develop such a measure are rare. In this study, arguing that monopoly profits tend to be capitalized into the sale value of householdgoods carrier operating certificates, a procedure is developed to quantify these gains for all household-goods carriers subject to Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) regulation. Once estimated, the magnitude of these gains will be interpreted as a measure of the extent to which regulation has been perfect in terms of producer protection. Background information on household-goods carriers and the industry's regulatory framework are presented in Sections II and III respectively.
