The main purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate an innovative industrial automated PLC electro-pneumatic feeder and pick-and-place system to improve technical instruction and address the inadequacy of electrical and electronics training equipment in the BS Industrial Technology program of Isabela State University, City of Ilagan Campus. Likewise, this study was conducted to evaluate the functionality, durability, safety, and instructional applicability of an innovative industrial automated PLC electropneumatic feeder and pick-and-place system. The descriptive method of research was used, with sets of questionnaire checklists supplemented by unstructured interviews and observations as the main gathering instruments. A five-point Likert rating scale was used to determine the descriptive meanings of the indicators of the variables used. The study respondents were third-year electronics and electrical students of the Industrial Technology program, electrical and electronics teachers, engineers, and industry experts. The statistical tools used in the study were percentage and weighted mean. The developed project mean was 4.82, which suggests that the project is “highly acceptable.” This implies that the developed instructional equipment is highly suitable for instruction and simulation in industrial automation processes, and is highly preferred by evaluators. It can also be said that the constructed industrial automated PLC electro-pneumatic feeder and pick-and-place system is well designed, durable, functional, safe to use, and easy to maintain.

Towards industrial careers in Sweden

Towards industrial careers in Sweden – A narrative study of students choosing the industrial technology program 
 This article is about six students’ descriptions of their choice of the Industrial technology program. I have applied a narrative perspective and analysed the students’ narratives thematically. The research question is about the prominent themes of students’ descriptions of their choice of the program, and the answer is that four themes emerge from the descriptions. Two of the themes point to the advantages and disadvantages of industry jobs and industrial education. The third theme is about the choice of the program as a way for newly arrived refugees to get industrial work and eventually a permanent residence permit. The fourth theme is about students’ choice of industrial education as influenced by other people such as parents, teachers or study counsellors. The conclusion is that students who choose industrial education do not necessarily have the ambition to work as industrial workers. This may affect the industrial skills supply in the future in Sweden as an industrial country. Newly arrived refugees in industrial education can be included in this supply of skills, but these young people can also pursue other careers after completing their education. Although the choice of upper secondary education is free in Sweden, this freedom does not apply to these young people who make the choice based on the pressure on them to get a job after completing their education to be able to stay in Sweden.

Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives of Bachelor Of Industrial Technology And Graduate School Programs Of Marikina Polytechnic College: Stakeholders Awareness And Acceptability

Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives of an educational institution are its main framework for planning and guide in the execution of its program among its clientele. It necessitates that stakeholders of an institution are aware of and accept their VMGO. This study utilized a descriptive method of research and administered a survey questionnaire on the awareness and acceptability of the Vision and Mission of the college and the Goals and Objectives of the Bachelor of Industrial Technology and Graduate School programs (Doctor of Education in Educational Management, Master of Education, Master of Arts in Teaching and the Master of Technician Education using voluntary response sampling. The data revealed that the collective level of awareness and acceptance of the VM of the college and the GOs of the BIT program from its alumni and students, industry partners, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and administrators are to a High Extent as evidenced by their Grand Mean of 4.16 and 4.23 respectively. On the other hand, the collective level of awareness and acceptability of VM of the college and GOs of Graduate School programs from Ed. D. students, GS Faculty, M. Ed. Students, MAT Alumni, MAT students, Non-teaching staff, Administrators, and MTE students are at Very High Extent as evident by their Grand Mean of 4.60 and 4.67 respectively. These data implied how much they are aware of and how much they accepted the Vision and Mission of the college and the Goals and Objectives of the concerned programs among its stakeholders. Attitudes and Academic Performance of Engineering Students in both Prerequisite Courses to Final Year Project and Final Year Project

The aim of this study was to examine the attitudes of engineering students and their academic performance towards both prerequisite courses for and the final year project (FYP), given the need to increase our understanding of attitudes and performance in the context of engineering students, currently underexplored. Questionnaire surveys of 714 eligible students enrolled in the FYP across six engineering programs were conducted. The results show that students enrolled in Industrial, Mechanical and Civil engineering programs, have a negative attitude towards the FYP and its prerequisites, while students enrolled in Electrical, Electronic and Industrial Design and Technology programs have a positive attitude. A statistically strong positive correlation between project prerequisites and engineering FYP was found, confirmed by factor analysis. Majority of students struggle with project progress as compared to other stages of the FYP, due to inadequacy in fundamentals such as design. This study contributes to an understanding of existing knowledge by providing empirical evidence of not only challenges faced by engineering students (as opposed to other disciplines that have been widely covered) but also remedies to improve students’ academic performance. The findings also have implications on engineering education, in relation to informing policy decisions on engineering program structure.

Para-polybenzimidazole Membranes for HCl Electrolysis at High (T < 160 oC) Temperatures

Chlorine (Cl2) is a fundamental feedstock material for the chemical industry, and chlorine-derived products contribute more than $46 billion to the US economy annually. Chlorine plays a major role in many applications such as clean drinking water, pharmaceuticals, and crop protection chemicals. Most chlorine is produced from electrolysis of brine1. Chlorine can also be produced from hydrochloric acid by electrolysis. There are two primary techniques to recycle HCl to Cl2 via electrolysis--a diaphragm cell, which has the advantage of generating H2 as the product, and Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, which has the benefit of a higher conversion rate and lower energy consumption2,3. PEM electrolyzers are limited by the Nafion membrane separator, which requires hydration to conduct protons efficiently and is limited to temperatures of ≤ 120 °C. para-Polybenzimidazole (PBI; brand name Celtec-P) membranes are known as high temperature (T ≤ 230 °C) polymer separators that do not require hydration to maintain efficient proton conductivity and can operate in strong acid conditions4–6.In this work, we demonstrate a completely anhydrous HCl electrolysis system using a Celtec-P membrane that operates at temperatures up to 160 °C and has apparent conversion efficiencies up to 93% at 1.8V. We also discuss the results of an experimentally validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model and how this model can be used to elucidate and overcome potential electrolyzer limitations. ‘Employer’s Feedback to the Performance of Graduates of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Program of Surigao Del Sur State University in the Year 2017, 2018, and 2019

Motowidlo (2003) defines job performance as the total expected value to the organization of discrete behavioral episodes carried out by an employee over a given time period. Oman &amp; Obiekwe (2019) added that every organization seeks to attain a high level of performance, productivity and efficiency in their day to day operations and activities. To achieve these, a study was directed to evaluate the job performance and employer's feedback to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) graduates in the year 2017, 2018, and 2019 in eight majors namely: Architectural Drafting, Automotive Technology, Computer Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Food Technology, Garments Technology, and Mechanical Technology. The study utilized the descriptive survey and qualitative method. The descriptive method was utilized aiming to determine the graduate performance of the BSIT Program. Meanwhile, the qualitative method was used to get the opinion and feedback from the employers' point of view and observation. Generally, the study has undergone two main stages. Stage 1 focuses on the evaluation of the BSIT graduate performance by the employers while Stage 2 was concentrated on the qualitative feedback of the employers towards the BSIT graduates in the eight (8) field of specialization. The result revealed that the BSIT graduate performance got a rating of excellent in the year 2017, 2018, and 2019. It was also revealed that most of the employers showed positive feedbacks to the BSIT graduate performance. Thus, it is highly recommended that the school should maintain and sustain the quality of graduates they are producing every year, that is aligned to needs of the industry.

Personal and Work Related Correlates of Professional Self-Efficacy of Teachers in the Bachelor in Industrial Technology Program of the Bulacan State University

The study aimed to the professional self-efficacy levels of Industrial Technology teachers and determine how personal and work-related factors correlate to this. Questionnaires were administered to the respondents who were purposively chosen for this research. Demographic data were taken as personal-related factors, while facilities and equipment, program culture an administrative support and professional organization were considered as indicators of work-related factors. To discern professional efficacy, knowledge improvement, attitudes and practices were taken into account as indicators. Findings showed that Work related variables are predominantly significantly related to professional efficacy rather than personal-related variables. Program culture has positive significant correlation with knowledge improvement as an indicator of professional efficacy. Administrative support and program culture have positive significant correlation with attitude as an indicator of professional efficacy. Hence, it was concluded that work-related rather than personal-related factors had significantly influenced teachers' perception of professional self-efficacy.

Uji Organoleptik Serbuk Daun Sungkai (Albertisia Papuana Becc.) Sebagai Penyedap Rasa Alami

The tendency for excessive consumption of MSG has prompted various studies to find a replacement. One of the ingredients studied is Sungkai leaf powder (Albertisia papuana Becc) which has been used by people in Kalimantan as a flavor enhancer. This study aims to determine the dosage of use of sungkai leaves which is preferred by panelists through organoleptic tests. Panelists (as many as 104 panelists) were selected by incidental sampling from among housewives (32), food traders (17), students of the UPR industrial technology program (41) and ordinary people (14). The treatments were made in 5 levels, namely control (M1), 0.5 gram / L (M2), 1.0 gram / L (M3), 1.5 gram / L (M4) and 2.0 gram / L (M5) ). The results showed that Sungkai leaf powder (Albertisia papuana Becc) can be used as a natural food delicacy because it can raised umami (delicious taste), which is caused by the synergy of protein, natrium and free amino acids. The panelists' response to the optimal dose of using sungkai leaf powder varies greatly depending on the habits and tastes of the panelists. This study also concluded that the application of Sungkai leaf powder was not too dominant in adding flavor and changing the color of the dishes.

Tracer Study of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Graduates of Palompon Institute of Technology

This paper examines the employment status of the graduates related to their present occupations. This was done to assist the administrators and faculty in the enhancement of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology program of Palompon Institute of Technology. The study used the descriptive type of research method with 159 graduates as respondents. The result revealed that majority or more than half (55.34%) of the total respondents were employed and were working with jobs related to their specialization. However, there were seven percent (6.92%) of the total respondents were unemployed as revealed in the study. In addition, over thirty-six percent (36.48) of the questionnaire were not recovered from the respondents. Most of those who were unemployed cited that the reasons of unemployment was due to family endeavors and lack of experience. Thus, curricular review should be made to ensure the provision of more skills development programs especially in technical skills which really a great help in their future career. Furthermore, the institution should establish more linkages with establishments which can provide employment to the graduates after finishing the course.

Science Competency Assessment Tool for On- the- Job Training Students of the College of Industrial Technology Batangas State University

The science curriculum in the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) program is a significant component of the academic requirement of the students and is believed to be vital for the development of skills and potentials of students. The objective of the study was to develop a science competency assessment tool for the OJT students of the CIT, Batangas State University, Batangas City, Philippines. The different science competencies were classified as technical, behavioral, communicative and managerial competencies. The descriptive method of research was utilized in this study with the questionnaire as the data gathering instrument. The data were analyzed and tested using weighted mean and T-test. The faculty and OJT students very strongly agreed that these science competencies were offered and developed in the department. The science competencies were developed in the objectives in Physics to a very great extent as assessed by both faculty and OJT students. Likewise, to a great extent, the science competencies were developed in the objectives in chemistry. With regards to the instructional strategies' science competencies were developed to a great extent. Based on the development of science competencies relative to the learning infrastructures, science competencies were developed to a very great extent as assessed by faculty, while the students' assessments revealed that they were developed to a great extent. Further, as to the evaluative measures, for faculty science competencies were developed to a very great extent, while student respondents revealed that to a great extent. It was recommended that the objectives of the science subjects, instructional strategies, learning the infrastructure, and evaluative measures must be made congruent with the competencies of the students; discussion of the relevance of science and other academic subjects in the regular conduct of the industry advisory committee meeting. Moreover, the proposed science competency assessment tool must be evaluated, and pilot tested before it can be administered to OJT students.

Prof. Habibollah Haron is one of Professor in Faculty of Computing, University of Teknologi Malaysia. He received Bachelor of Computer Science from University of Teknologi Malaysia in 1989, Master of Science in Computer Technology in Manufacture, from University of Sussex & University of Brighton United Kingdom in 1995 and Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science especially in Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) area from University of Teknologi Malaysia in 2004. He has research experience in image processing, artificial intelligence, computer vision and Computer Aided Geometric Design. Currently, he is a senior member of IEEE, Information Visualization Society, United Kingdom and Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia (Malaysian Society of Sciences and Mathematics) (PERSAMA). He has received some awards such as Most Active Reviewers of International Arab Journal of Information Technology (IAJIT) During the Year 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, ODA Shared Scholarship Scheme for one year of M.Sc. course at the University of Sussex, UK by Association of Commonwealth Universities, in October 1994 and IDB Training Scheme Award under Development and Industrial Technology Program (Asian) Development Bank (PPTP/ADB) in May – July 1994 (3 months) at Dept. of Electronic Engineering, University of Hull, UK. He is also the organizing chair of the 5th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems Conference (ACIIDS 2013) and the 13th International Conference Intelligent Software Methodologies, Tools and Techniques (SOMET 2014). Persepsi Guru Pembimbing terhadap Proses Pembelajaran Mahasiswa PPL UNY di SMK Kota Yogyakarta Tahun Ajaran 2012/2013

This study describes perception of the supervisor teachers toward the skills of Yogyakarta State University students conducting Teaching Practicum at Vocational High Schools in Yogyakarta regency in the academic year of 2012/2013. This study was conducted using survey approach. The population were the teachers of the Industrial Technology program at Vocational High Schools in Yogyakarta regency. The results showed the perception toward the students’ skills in high, average and low categories were 18.33%, 56.67% and 25% respectively. The reasons for the 25% of the low category were the students did not have sufficient experiences in teaching and did not completely master crucial components of the learning process, particularly in the opening stage

Trends in Industrial Automation and Academic Initiatives in the Philippines: Assessment and Analysis of Mechatronics-Enabling Technologies, Skill Set Demands, and Academic Relevance

The study covers the assessment of mechatronicsenabling technology utility and skill set requirements in the industry as it addresses issues relative to human resource quality as it relates to current industrial automation trends and practices in the Philippines. The results of the assessment of industry utilities and industry’s skills expectations are compared to an academic assessment conducted concurrently that utilized a common benchmark assessment instrument to evaluate student’s skills and competencies on the basis of their experiences. A comparison of corresponding results is expected to affirm, using valid statistical tests, the mismatch between the skills required by employers and those possessed by students. Apart from these assessments, a supplementary review and analysis of industrial automation and related programs offered under the umbrella of the industrial technology program in the Philippines is conducted by examining related program prospectuses and course content to check whether the actual core courses and laboratory support services jibe with the industry’s requirements. The outcome of the study suggests the need for an infusion of mechatronics-based courses and support systems into the industrial technology programs as a bridging intervention to mitigate the industryacademe imbalance identified.

Tools for collaboration across STEM fields

Supporting learners at different stages of learning is essential to achieve positive learning, critical thinking, technical and problem solving skills, and gainful employment upon graduation. Collaboration is critical to providing strong foundational educational support to all learners as they advance to higher level of learning. More important is the need to promote collaboration among educators and other professionals across the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields who educate the learners throughout their academic pursuit in their respective institutions of learning. To reap the value in diverse teams, the promotion of emergent interdependence fosters seamless collaborative activities across STEM disciplines. For industrial technology programs to prepare students with skills necessary to supervise and manage the future workforce of any organization successfully, necessary tools must be utilized for the success of the collaborative effort. This paper addresses leadership and knowledge sharing among collaborators, the educational aspects of research facilities and research clusters as some of the tools necessary to develop program through collaboration in STEM fields.

Challenges, opportunities, and possibilities: An update on the TMS energy materials study

Since February 2010, TMS has led the materials science and engineering (MSE) community in a study pinpointing where materials innovations can transform developing energy technologies into clean, affordable, and widespread options that will support new manufacturing opportunities. The work is being done on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy Industrial Technologies Program. In the latest installment of the project, TMS convened a series of Innovation Impact Teams in June charged with producing roadmaps setting specific development and performance goals. While the information and insights generated from these teams are still being synthesized, the Innovation Impact Team chairs shared their perspectives in the following roundtable discussion on the potential impact of this work.

Energy materials blue ribbon panel releases vision report

Striking a balance between lowerrisk, near-term improvements and highrisk, long-term innovations in material and manufacturing science research and development is the most promising path to securing a sustainable energy future for the United States and the world, according to Linking Transformational Materials and Processing for an Energy-Effi cient and Low-Carbon Economy: Creating the Vision and Accelerating Realization, released in July by the Energy Materials Blue Ribbon Panel convened by TMS. The “Vision Report,” as it is known, culminates the fi rst phase of work in a two-part study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) in February 2010. The studies will support the development of a core materials science and engineering research and development portfolio that can best realize these critical needs. Isaac Chan, acting program manager for the DOE/ITP, commended the work of the Blue Ribbon Panel’s scientists and thought leaders for their ambitious effort, and expressed optimism about the prospects for progress on national energy security and carbon emission reductions goals that the Vision Report makes possible. “The strategic opportunities and solutions identifi ed in the report point the way toward truly transformational advances in new materials science and engineering,” said Chan. “Our challenge ahead is to move this work forward in order to convert the ideas into a blueprint for action that can speed our movement toward a more energy-effi cient and low-carbon society.” While the Vision Report addresses an array of technologies in which new materials and processing breakthroughs can lead to these transformational advances, it also highlights improvements Energy Materials Blue Ribbon Panel Releases Vision Report

Industrial Technology Program Quality Assurance: A Preliminary Industry-Academe Skills Competency Study on Concurrent Engineering Demands

This paper provides fundamental insights on industrial technology program quality assurance with regards to the latest trends in concurrent engineering and mechatronics in the manufacturing industries. It tackles on the curricular program analysis that attempts to examine existing program relevance to concurrent engineering needs and practices in Region X. The fundamental arguments are anchored on the issue of industry-academe imbalance relative to human resource quality. Issues presented in this paper points to some academic shortcomings and industry’s lackluster academic involvement. This imbalance are confirmed and validated through the academic and industry assessment process which attempted to compare industry’s actual skills competency needs and the quality of human resources supplied by the academe and or other training institutions. Appropriate complementary curricular program initiatives and industry collaboration were undertaken to address prevailing arguments. Two Problems with Table Saws

In this paper we solve two problems that arose when I began to construct wooden pic ture frames. At that time, my only tool was a table saw, a tool that is essential to any woodworker or carpenter, but by its simplicity appears to be very limited in its ver satility. But I convinced myself that the application of a little geometry, trigonometry, and calculus was all I needed to make my table saw a tool capable of more than just cutting boards to the proper width or length. The reader who would like to use our solutions to make his or her own frames will require no tools more sophisticated than a protractor and ruler, and a table saw of course! For the classroom, this article also demonstrates that real world problems can often be solved with the mathematics typically studied within the first two years of college. I think these problems would be especially enjoyable for students in engineering or industrial technology programs. A table saw consists of little more than a table and a flat circular saw blade that revolves, within its plane, about its center. The blade is raised through a slot to pro trude above the surface of the table, and the material is cut by passing it across the revolving blade. The most common use of a table saw is to rip a board, meaning to cut it lengthwise, parallel to the grain of the wood. A crosscut is a cut perpendicular to the length of the board, across the woodgrain. In both operations, the plane of the blade is perpendicular to the surface of the table and the board is slid on the table so that its leading edge is perpendicular to the blade. Figure 1 shows the operation of making a crosscut.
