Towards a high-energy efficiency world: Assessing the impact of artificial intelligence on urban energy efficiency

Global warming has increased the frequency of natural disasters, making enhancing energy efficiency an inevitable choice to address the worsening global climate risks. Whether industrial robots, as a crucial component of artificial intelligence, can contribute to improving energy efficiency remains a subject of debate. This study employs the SBM and super-efficiency SBM models to assess the energy efficiency of 262 Chinese cities from 2010 to 2020. We investigate the impact and mechanisms of industrial robots at the city level on energy efficiency. The research findings indicate that the application of industrial robots promotes enhanced energy efficiency, which remains robust after subjecting it to a battery of tests, including SYS-GMM and instrumental variable analyses. However, a significant nonlinear relationship exists between industrial robot utilization and energy efficiency, with diminishing marginal effects. Mechanism analysis reveals that the fundamental mechanisms facilitating this improvement are the digital economy, industrial structural adjustments, and innovations in green technology. Heterogeneity analysis suggests that industrial robots have a more pronounced impact on cities with higher energy efficiency, greater manufacturing levels in resource-dependent areas, and lower population densities. Furthermore, the application of industrial robots can influence the energy efficiency of neighboring regions through spatial spillover effects.

Against the background of industrial structure adjustment, this paper analyses the interactive relationship between the training of new energy professionals and industrial demand and proposes innovative strategies for training new energy professionals to meet the needs of industrial development. The analysis reveals that industrial restructuring has led to a steadily increasing overall demand for talent in the new energy sector, accompanied by a growing need for diversified talent structures, shortages of high-skilled and innovative professionals, a strong emphasis on the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and an emergent requirement for interdisciplinary and cross-boundary talent. To address these industry demands, it is essential to focus on several measures: establishing a scientifically grounded system of talent cultivation objectives, adopting a deep integration model of school-enterprise cooperation, creating flexible and open dynamic training mechanisms, forming an operational framework that continuously monitors industrial frontiers and strengthens industry-university collaboration, building a rigorous and scientific talent quality assessment system, and reinforcing the professionalization of the faculty. These measures collectively aim to develop effective strategies that enhance the quality of talent cultivation in new energy specialties and ensure its alignment with industry requirements.

Analyzing green and sustainable land use in China's coal cities: Insights from industrial transformation.

Driven by the goal of achieving sustainable development and carbon neutrality. Addressing environmental pollution and remediating land damage have become critical challenges in resource-based cities and regions with low land use efficiency. As a response, this study focuses on the 23 provinces where China's coal resource-based cities are situated. Utilizing data from 2014 to 2020, this research employs the SBM-Undesirable model, which considers undesirable outputs in efficiency calculations, and the Tobit regression test. It aims to explore the spatio-temporal variations in industrial transformation within resource-based cities and its impact on the efficiency of green space utilization. Furthermore, it analyzes the characteristics and the extent of the influence of factors such as industrial structure adjustments on urban land use efficiency, maximizing the output of land as a factor of production. The results show that: (1) Over the 7-year period studied, China consistently made nationwide adjustments to land area and land use structure to meet the needs of urban development (2) The regression test results show that the industrial transformation of resource-based cities can promote the improvement of green space utilization efficiency. The positive influence coefficient is 0.064 and is significant at a 1% level. (3) Environmental regulation, government expenditure, international trade, and green cover play a positive role in promoting green land use. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and urban planners seeking to foster sustainable development in resource-based cities.

Exploring the green and low-carbon development pathway for an energy-intensive industrial park in China

Energy-intensive industrial parks (IPs) exhibit distinct characteristics, including a significant presence of resource-dependent industries, substantial greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and severe air pollution. Focusing on energy-intensive IPs and promoting their green and low-carbon development is crucial to achieving high-quality development of IPs. Taking a typical energy-intensive industrial park (IP) in Henan Province—the Red Flag Cannel Industrial Park (RFCP) as the research object, this study applied structural adjustment model, scenario analysis, and synergistic effect evaluation methods to explore the green and low-carbon transition pathway. The GHG and air pollutant reduction potential and synergistic emission reduction effect of the RFCP were comprehensively analyzed under three measures of industrial structure adjustment, energy structure adjustment, and green technology implementation. The scenario analysis indicates that the integrated scenario (S3) shows the most significant emission reduction potential by 2030. Compared to the baseline scenario (S0), the CO2eq emission reduction is 11.66 Mt (53% reduction rate), and the emission reduction rate of air pollutants ranges from 36% to 68% in S3. The synergistic effect evaluation shows that industrial structure adjustment shows the best synergistic control effect on GHG and air pollutants in 2030. The result also indicates that industrial structure adjustment and energy structure adjustment are the main measures to reduce GHG and air pollutants of IPs. Finally, some policy recommendations regarding the transformation direction of energy-intensive IPs were proposed. This study will provide valuable references for the green and low-carbon development of energy-intensive IPs.

Study on interaction effect between root and soil of apple tree

As an important organ for plant absorption, channelling, synthesis, storage, secretion, regulation, fixation and support, root system plays an important role in plant growth and development. The root system is particularly important for perennial tree trees, it is the base and center of the overall development of the tree. Although people are well aware of the interrelationship between above and below ground growth, especially under adverse soil conditions, they encounter various problems involving water, nutrients and ecology, which affect the development state of apple tree roots, and thus restrict the effectiveness of apple tree production. However, under the conditions of field production, the root system of apple trees is affected by soil physicochemical properties, biological ecological factors and their trees The combined influence of the other parts of the body shows the extreme complexity of the biological space-time effect, and The root system is distributed underground, perennial, with complex structure and huge system, which makes the observation and research more difficult It is difficult, so people's research on it is far less in-depth, systematic and comprehensive than that on the ground. Soil management measures in agricultural production work through the root system, which directly determines the development state and production level of apple trees. Therefore, this paper provides theoretical basis and technical support for the healthy and sustainable development of apple industry and fundamental guarantee for the healthy and sustainable development of apple by summarizing the research progress of the root-soil effect of apple trees. Apple trees are an important part of agriculture. With the adjustment of rural industrial structure and the opening of agricultural products market, planting apple trees according to local conditions has brought considerable economic benefits to farmers. Apple trees have strong adaptability, not only can be planted in plain areas, but also can grow in hills, deserts and other areas. Apple trees can not only increase income, but also prevent soil erosion, increase green space coverage, and regulate microclimate. In addition, the apple contains a variety of essential nutrients for human growth and development, and the apple itself and its seeds also have medicinal effects. With the development of social economy and the improvement of people's living standards, the demand for apple is increasing, and the quality of apple is also put forward higher requirements. Nutrients, water and temperature are the main factors affecting apple quality, but soil management, pruning and ecological factors also directly or indirectly affect apple quality. Among them, roots are the only bridge between apple trees and the interaction of water, fertilizer, gas and heat in the soil. The water and nutrients required for the growth and development of apple trees and various physiological active substances synthesized are completed by roots. The distribution form of roots can reflect the utilization and productivity of substances and energy in the soil by apple trees, and the root system also has the potential to improve apple quality.

FDI Spillover Effects, Indigenous Innovation Capability, and Regional Industrial Structure Adjustment

This article, based on the perspective of regional economics, utilizes data from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration from 2013 to 2021. It establishes a dynamic panel model and introduces interaction terms between FDI spillover effects and indigenous innovation capability. Through empirical analysis, it examines the impacts of FDI spillover effects, indigenous innovation capability, and their interaction on the industrial structure of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.The research findings indicate that after introducing the interaction term,FDI promotes the enhancement of indigenous innovation capability, thereby optimizing the industrial structure with a noticeable synergistic effect. Therefore, leveraging the synergistic effect of FDI and indigenous innovation on the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure is of significant importance for the high-quality development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration.

Day-Ahead scheduling of rural integrated energy systems based on distributionally robust optimization theory

The integration of diverse industries in rural areas is an important step in building a smart countryside and achieving rural revitalization. Aiming at the problem of high energy consumption and pollution in agricultural production parks under the traditional energy structure, a new rural comprehensive energy park distribution robust scheduling model for water containing product breeding greenhouses is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a greenhouse model for aquaculture based on the principle of thermal flow is established. Secondly, considering energy production, consumption and storage, a rural integrated energy system model is established. In response to the uncertainty of residential electricity load, solar radiation, and environmental temperature within the park, a distributed robust optimization model is established using Kullback Leibler divergence. Finally, a numerical simulation is conducted using energy data from a real rural aquaculture park. The results show that compared to agricultural production parks under traditional energy models, the new rural comprehensive energy system model proposed in this paper fully integrates rural resources, reduces daily operating costs by 74.832 %, and reduces total carbon emissions by 33.75 %, providing theoretical support for rural industrial structure adjustment and energy transformation.

Smart Cities and Global Value Chain Upgrading: Evidence from China

China has been on a new journey pursuing high-quality development, an important element of which is global value chain (GVC) upgrading. The smart city pilot policy, which aims at reshaping the urban development model in China, is carried out and regarded conducive to achieving high-quality development. Nevertheless, regarding whether and how smart cities could promote GVC upgrading, research is scant. We adopted the approach of time-varying difference-in-differences (DID) and used a dataset that encompassed 174 prefecture-level cities between 2005 and 2017 to investigate the impact of China’s smart city pilot policy on the GVC upgrading of cities. The findings indicate that, firstly, GVC upgrading is significantly enhanced by building smart cities in China. Secondly, this favorable influence on GVC upgrading is mainly through channels of informatization, innovation, and industrial structure adjustment. Thirdly, the influence is more pronounced in eastern cities and cities with better conditions in terms of human capital, fiscal capacity, and information infrastructure. This research provides evidence and policy implications for China to move forward with the smart city establishment in a bid to upgrade GVCs and achieve high-quality growth.

China's Export Trade's Effects on the Global Economy

China’s export trade’s effects on the global economy involves many aspects, including global economic growth, international trade pattern, industrial structure adjustment and so on. Therefore, it is crucial to carry out a thorough analysis of the effects of China's export trade on the world economy. This paper will use a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to carry out the research, and at the same time use a large number of charts and graphs to analyse the data. Firstly, the size and trajectory of China's exports will be revealed by collecting and analysing a large number of statistical data, such as the organization of China's export market, the total amount of trade exports from China, China's gross domestic product, and global GDP. Secondly, the impact of China's export trade on the global economy is explored in depth through data comparison and empirical analysis. Through the review of related literature and theoretical analyses, China's export trade has an important impact on the world economy, and the future trend will be characterised by industrial upgrading, multilateral trade co-operation and service trade growth.

Can industrial structure optimization and industrial structure transition both lead to carbon lock-in mitigation? The case of China.

The optimization and transition of the industrial structure help improve the quality of the economy, moving it toward low-carbon development. By using the Instrumental Variable Generalized Method of Moments model and a city-level dataset covering the period 2006-2019, this paper explores the carbon lock-in mitigation effects of industrial structure optimization and industrial structure transition, respectively. The heterogeneity and the synthetic industrial structure adjustment effect are detected, and the potential impact mechanism is also explored. Some findings have been generated. (1) Both industrial structure optimization and industrial structure transition realize carbon lock-in eradication. (2) Industrial structure optimization and transition are more effective in inhibiting carbon lock-in in cities with a higher level of economic background. (3) By generating an interaction term of industrial structure optimization and transition and examining the impact of the interaction term on carbon lock-in, this paper detects that industrial structure optimization and transition have a synthetic impact on carbon lock-in, showing a "1 + 1 > 2" effect. (4) Industrial structure optimization and transition both affect carbon lock-in by improving technological innovation level, which is the impact mechanism. Some policy implications, such as sectoral diversification and promoting research and development, are put forward for better industrial structure development and carbon unlocking.

Practical Curriculum Development in TVET: Integrating Taylorism and Connectivism for Operational Skill Enhancement

With the continuous development of the global economy and the adjustment of industrial structure, there is a growing demand for high-quality skilled talents with practical operational skills. This study aims to explore how to integrate Taylorism and Connectivism in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to enhance the effectiveness of operational skill cultivation. In the first phase of the research, we focused on the operational skill of escalator troubleshooting, gaining in-depth insights into the current situation in this field. Subsequently, we proposed and implemented an innovative curriculum development framework (BTCC), which fully utilizes the practical orientation of Taylorism and the interactive learning philosophy of Connectivism. This framework focuses on developing a course to enhance the operational skills of escalator troubleshooting. Finally, validated in an actual TVET environment, the research results, referred to as the Innovative Practical Course (ETSC), show that the new course significantly improves students’ proficiency in escalator troubleshooting skills and promotes active learning and collaboration in practice. This study provides practical and adaptable escalator troubleshooting course development experience for vocational colleges, offering a feasible approach to address the challenges in cultivating related operational skills.

The PM2.5 pollution rebound effect and industrial structure adjustment in China: The impact of heterogeneous technological progress and resource dependence

Adjusting industrial structure is the fundamental way of pollution control and environmental protection. Analyzing the PM2.5 pollution rebound effect of industrial structure adjustment based on heterogeneous technological progress and resource dependence is of great significance for in-depth and sustained pollution reduction. The results of combining the panel threshold regression model and the modified STIRPAT model on provincial panel data from 2008 to 2022 show that a 1% increase in structural upgrading results in a 0.4130% decrease in PM2.5 pollution; a 1% increase in structural rationalization results in a 0.0934% decrease in PM2.5 pollution. Resource dependence causes the PM2.5 pollution rebound effect of industrial structure adjustment; industrial structure upgrading with resource dependence has an insignificant increase effect on PM2.5 pollution, 1% increase of rationalization with resource dependence leads to a 2.8637% increase in PM2.5 pollution. As technology progresses, the increasing effect of industrial structure upgrading with resource dependence on pollution gradually weakens and finally transforms into a reduction effect; the reduction effect of industrial structure rationalization with resource dependence becomes an increasing effect causing the rebound to reappear and then turns to be a reduction effect again, show an invert “N.” Heterogeneous technological progress has the paradox impact mechanism on the pollution rebound; environmental protection technological progress can eliminate the pollution rebound, whereas energy-saving technological progress may cause a pollution rebound effect of industrial structure rationalization.

Impact of the coupling relationship between marine industry and regional development on the marine economy

To investigate the relationship between the marine industry and regional development, and assess its impact on the marine economy. The study creates an evaluation index system for the coupling relationship between the marine economy and regional development. It applies coupling theory and combines the hierarchical analysis method with the entropy weight method to determine the weight of each index. By constructing the coupling degree and coupling coordination degree model, this paper quantitatively analyzes the coupling relationship and applies the coefficient of variation to assess the coordinated development differences between different regions. The study utilized data from the official China Marine Statistical Yearbook. The analysis revealed an upward trend in the coupling degree of the marine economy and regional development during the study period, increasing from 0.58 to 0.72. This indicated a significant strengthening of the interaction and synergistic development between the two. In typical coastal areas, the coupling degree increased from 0.62 to 0.78, indicating the significant contribution of the marine industry to the region's comprehensive economic development. The study proposes policy recommendations to enhance the adjustment of the marine industrial structure and technological innovation, promote inter-regional cooperation and resource sharing, and strengthen marine environmental protection and sustainable resource utilization. These measures aim to promote the development of the marine economy while safeguarding marine resources.

Realizing synergy between pollution reduction and carbon mitigation in industrial parks: From model development to tool application

Promoting the synergy between carbon mitigation and pollution reduction (SCMPR) is pivotal for global green and sustainable development. Industrial parks, as crucial economic hubs, require effective SCMPR strategies considering land, economy, and the environment, but present research seldom proposes methods that consider multiple factors and stakeholders together and fit for practical application. Given this, this study establishes a multi-factor industrial structural adjustment model for industrial parks incorporating scenario analysis to unveil optimal adjustment schemes and then develops an efficient spreadsheet tool based on the model. The model results convincingly fulfill SCMPR requirement after applying to a typical industrial park: After adjustments, 50 main industries in the park can achieve SCMPR targets, with carbon intensity and total phosphorous intensity predicted to achieve relative decoupling and other regular pollutant emissions anticipated to absolute decoupling by 2030. The proposed optimal scheme indicates that wastewater, waste gas, and solid waste volumes in the park will rise by 39%–54% by 2025 and 76%–113% from 2025 to 2030, and then translate into a 50% increase in waste treatment costs by 2025 and a subsequent 98% increase by 2030. The carbon intensity of the park will decrease from 154 tonnes of CO2 per million Chinese Yuan in 2020 to 94 in 2030. The results culminate in three strategic recommendations for industrial parks: (1) prioritize reducing total pollutant emissions and carbon intensity, (2) customize carbon mitigation and pollution reduction strategies for each industry, and (3) regulate material and energy flows at multiple levels. This study can provide a pragmatic tool for industrial parks to make science-based decision-making toward dual carbon goals.

Research on the Current Situation and Countermeasures of Regional Ecological Agriculture Development in Shaanxi Province

The vigorous development of regional ecological agriculture in Shaanxi Province can effectively solve the problems of resource utilization and environmental protection, promote the adjustment of rural industrial structure and rural revitalization. In order to further promote the development of ecological agriculture in Shaanxi Province, this article focuses on the current situation of regional ecological agriculture development in Shaanxi Province, analyzes the problems existing in the development of regional ecological agriculture in Shaanxi Province, and conducts in-depth analysis from three levels: resource allocation, government supervision, and technological development. It explores the path of sustainable development of ecological agriculture and proposes effective measures to promote the healthy, harmonious, and sustainable development of ecological economy in Shaanxi Province. It also provides ideas and references for the development of ecological agriculture in other regions of China.

Modelling the role of industrial structure adjustment on China's energy efficiency: Insights from technology innovation

Due to uncoordinated economic progress, China's regional gap concerning energy efficiency (EE) is noticeable. However, industrial structure adjustments can be reorganized as a promising way to prioritize the green and low-carbon transition. Aiming to understand how regional EE can be achieved through industrial structure adjustment, this study empirically investigates the role of industrial structure adjustment in increasing interprovincial EE from a technology innovation perspective. Unlike previous studies, the primary analytical framework is anchored on a spatio-temporal domain. Specifically, we observe that industrial structure rationalization and industrial structure adjustment not only directly influence local EE but also indirectly exert a positive effect on EE improvements in adjacent provinces. The same implications are also valid when addressing the EE-ICT nexus. Further mechanism analysis shows that technology innovation positively moderates industrial structure adjustment to EE enhancements, with regional heterogeneity being all-important. We find that the non-linear effect of industrial structure adjustment on EE is conditioned by technology innovation. Increasing R&D input intensity could significantly change the impacts of industrial structure adjustments on EE efficiency.

Research on the Impact of Digital Inclusive Finance on the New Rural Collective Economy based on Empirical Evidence from Sichuan Province

This article takes Sichuan Province as the research object and explores the impact of digital inclusive finance on the new rural collective economy. Firstly, the concept, characteristics, and development forms of digital inclusive finance and the new rural collective economy were elaborated, revealing the relationship between the two. Secondly, the current development status of digital inclusive finance in Sichuan Province was analyzed, including the current situation of rural financial services, the promotion and application of digital inclusive finance in Sichuan Province, as well as the problems and challenges faced in its development. Subsequently, the impact mechanism of digital inclusive finance on the new rural collective economy was elaborated from the aspects of financial resource allocation, rural industrial structure adjustment, improvement of farmers' income, and construction of rural credit system. Finally, in response to the impact of the development of digital inclusive finance in Sichuan Province on the new rural collective economy, policy recommendations were proposed to strengthen digital infrastructure construction and network coverage, formulate policy measures to support the development of digital inclusive finance, and enhance farmers' awareness and acceptance of digital financial services. The research results indicate that digital inclusive finance has a positive impact on the development of the new rural collective economy, providing useful reference for the development of rural economy in China.

Analysis of the Convergence of Manufacturing Industry Structure in the Three Provinces of Northeast China

At present, China's economic development is in an important stage of transformation towards high-quality development. Realizing industrial structure adjustment, promoting rational regional industrial layout, and collaborative division of labor play an important role in promoting high-quality economic development. Therefore, conducting research on the convergence of regional industrial structure is of great practical significance for promoting sustainable economic development. This article takes the manufacturing industry in the three northeastern provinces as the research object, and analyzes the problem of industrial structure convergence in the manufacturing industry from multiple perspectives. By measuring the similarity coefficient of industrial structure, location entropy, and regional division of labor index, it was found that the manufacturing industry in the three northeastern provinces of China has intensified industrial homogeneity while the convergence of industrial structure is not obvious. Policy suggestions are proposed to address this phenomenon.

Study on the Impact of RMB Exchange Rate on China's Industrial Structure Adjustment

This paper firstly summarizes the current situation of China's current industrial structure as well as the change of exchange rate system, systematically describes the research object of this paper, and outlines its main features. After that, this paper analyzes the impact of the real effective exchange rate of RMB on China's secondary and tertiary industries for the purpose of the study, takes into full consideration the main factors affecting the industrial structure, selects a large number of control variables, and completes the empirical analysis of China's overall as well as the eastern, middle and western regions by using the panel data of the country's 30 provinces in the 16-year period from 2005 to 2020. In addition, a variety of robustness tests were conducted to fully ensure the stability and interpretability of the model. It is finally concluded that the appreciation of RMB exchange rate will significantly benefit the development of China's tertiary industry, promote the industrial structure from the secondary industry to the tertiary industry, and complete the upgrade of industrial structure. Specifically, for every 1% increase in the real effective exchange rate of RMB, the proportion of tertiary industry in the GDP of the whole country, the east, the center and the west will increase by 0.7850%, 0.7171%, 1.0186% and 0.4873% respectively. Besides, this paper also verifies the indirect impact of the exchange rate on the industrial structure through the three paths of price effect, foreign trade openness and FDI, and verifies the existence of the intermediary effect. According to the empirical results, the price effect, FDI, and the increase of foreign trade openness will promote the advanced industrial structure of China. But both FDI and foreign trade openness are negatively correlated with the exchange rate, which is the core variable of this paper.

The Impact Of The Digital Economy And New Infrastructure On China’s Economic Development

With the rapid growth of digital technology and the advent of the epidemic and post-epidemic era, digital economy has become a vital force driving China’s monetary growth and transformation and modernizing. The digital economy and new infrastructure are two important directions in current China’s economic development. Using the newly implemented infrastructure policies released by municipality governments in China from 2018 to 2022 as a data source, the concept of new progress, driven by novel technologies, and built on digitized networks of information, is used to provide a source of power for further economic development. This paper investigates the positive and negative effects of the mathematical economy on economic growth using the Cobb-Douglas production function, Keynes-Hicks social welfare function, and Differential pricing model. One way that the digital economy might advance is by lowering transaction costs, increasing economic growth rates and total factor productivity, creating new employment opportunities, raising individual income levels, improving social services and public administration, raising social welfare levels, and further promoting economic development. On the other hand, new infrastructure includes digital infrastructure, smart manufacturing, new energy, and transportation infrastructure. The construction of these infrastructures can promote industrial upgrading and the adjustment and optimization of industrial structures. The transformation of traditional service and manufacturing industries into digitized online industries will ultimately lead to a more transparent and efficient overall economy. Even if the new infrastructure and digital economy can cause problems such as unfair competition and privacy breaches, the combination of them can lead to a win-win situation for economic development in China.
