Effect of energy policies on industrial development in sub-Saharan African countries

Energy is a key factor in the production and industrialization process in developing countries. This article aims to analyse the effect of energy policies on industrial development across 25 sub-Saharan African countries from 1996 to 2020. For this purpose, a new industrial development indicator and the Driscoll–Kraay estimation method are used. Results reveal that the implementation of energy policies promotes industrial development. Indeed, public energy policies and, more specifically, public investments in energy capital have a positive impact on the growth rate of the industrial sector’s value added per capita. These results remain robust when using the generalized method of moments. In terms of policy implications, the results of this research suggest that the strengthening of existing public energy policies and the implementation of new policies with a focus on investments in energy capital accumulation are necessary to drive sustainable industrial sector development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Analysis of the Energy Efficiency of Poultry Houses in Türkiye

Türkiye is an important producer, consumer and exporter in the poultry farming industry across the world. The poultry farming is one of the fastest growing sectors in the field of food and agriculture and has become one of the strongest sectors over time. Especially with the development of industrial sectors, the effective usage and management of energy, which is the most important issue of almost every business, has recently become an important structure in the building sector in Türkiye. This study examined optimum insulation layer thickness, energy savings, and emissions of CO2 for the exterior walls and roofs of poultry farming facilities. The study used the degree day method, which is widely used in standard insulation calculations, in accordance with broiler production. As the equilibrium temperature, the desired temperature values of broilers for each week in the 6-week period were taken as the basis (31, 29, 25, 23.50, 22.50, 20.50°C). Life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) was applied to identify the optimal values of insulation thickness in the facilities. Accordingly, the optimum insulation layer thickness, savings amount, and payback period for the walls and roofs ranged between 0.043-0.270 m and 0.022-0.094 m, 7.53-164.65 S/m2 and 12.85-319.62 S/m2, 1.19-2.19 years and 1.18-1.99 years, respectively. It has been calculated that a 70-80% reduction in CO2 emissions could be managed by applying the optimum insulation layer thickness.

Dynamic role of clean energy and sustainable economic growth in coastal region: Novel observations from China

China's coastal region is the major geographical unit for the future development of China's industrial sector. The transformation of basic structure to high-class development in China's coastal places is a significant tool for promoting the changes related to quality, power and efficiency in regional economic development. In the 21st century, environmental and energy issues have increased worldwide, and challenges related to environmental pollution, energy crises, and ecological imbalances have emerged. To climate change and energy utilization, the sustainable progress of clean energy is the new route of future energy development. Based on China's non-polluting energy growth process in the last ten years, this article explores China's clean/green energy policies and economic growth development plans. Clean energy utilization is crucial for sustainable development in the context of high-quality economic growth and climate change. However, the monetary evolution and carbon emission are not investigated whole from the clean energy aspects. Using Wind energy sources as the acceptable variable, this paper employs threshold regression and impulse functions to assess the energy consumption and economic growth on carbon emission in 30 Chinese provinces over the 2000 to 2020 period. The Deep Belief Network (DBN) model predicts wind energy utilization and efficiency. The results show that economic development and carbon emissions are connected. Further, growth influences promote the offset of carbon emissions. Green innovation alters the nexus of carbon emissions, and China's economy reduces carbon usage. It provides the decision-making policies for clean energy development.

Sarong Bima: Elegance and Culture in Typical Cloth of West Nusa Tenggara

The industrial sector is one of the economic drivers in a region. Meanwhile, the industrial sector development in Bima Region is still poorly managed, especially the center of the Tembe Nggoli weaving industry. Therefore, there is a need for efforts by the NTB provincial government to properly manage it. Local economic development which can be done for the product is by using the industrialization concept. Thus, the purpose of writing this article is to examine the industrialization concept by the NTB provincial government as an effort to develop the local economy. The results showed that industrialization efforts by the NTB provincial government included trainings which are based on skills affirmation, business management, production equipment assistance, capital assistance, and even the value of packaging and marketing coverage workshop. The outcome of the training is to provide an expansion of employment opportunities, increase the quality and production capacity. This article used a literature approach, by examining several journals, books, electronic printed documents, and information relevant to the study. The discussion of the article is divided into several parts, 1) Characteristics of the typical woven pattern of Bima Tembe Nggoli; 2) Industrialization as an effort to develop the local economy; 3) Discussion; and 4) Conclusion.

Evaluation of the viability of the use of Lactobacillus casei in the removal of organic contaminants in waste from the craft brewing industry

Brewers’ spent grains (BSGs) are the most abundant waste generated from the craft brewing process, accounting for approximately 85% of the total byproduct obtained. The need to develop beneficial alternatives for the contribution of the industrial sector and sustainable development has increased interest in the fermentation processes used to produce biomass, using probiotic microorganisms that provide health benefits for those who consume it, obtaining byproducts rich in nutrients. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the growth of Lactobacillus casei in Mar, Rogosa and Sharpe broth (MRS) and to evaluate the feasibility of growing L. casei in craft beer residues. To achieve this goal, a 10% v/v inoculum of probiotic bacteria was used in both media. The process consisted of monitoring the biotransformation process at 37°C and 120 rpm for 72 hours and evaluating carbohydrate consumption and cell growth. At the end of 52 h, the carbohydrate concentration in combination with BSG was completely consumed, considering that the initial value was 16.49 g/L. In the case of the MRS medium, a value of 3.42 g/L was obtained at 72 h. Regarding the pH range with the MRS broth and with BSG, the values were 6.89-5.43 and 5-4.41, respectively. Due to the acidity of the synthetic medium, the pH of the synthetic medium was greater than that of BSG. However, L. casei managed to develop in a similar way since quite similar cell growth values were obtained in both media, so it is feasible to use BSG as a culture medium for the development of probiotic species.

Targeting in management of sustainable innovative development for industrial enterprises

The problem of reindustrialisation of the country and its transition to the sixth technological mode is of particular relevance for the Russian economy at present. At the same time, for the effective management of reindustrialisation, it is necessary, first of all, to develop a system of target setting for sustainable innovative development of industrial enterprises and production sectors. The aim of the paper is to consider and use a new methodological approach to the formation of such a system of target indicators. It is shown that there is no direct possibility of using for this purpose the theory of endogenous economic growth, the theory of long waves and the concept of technological patterns, the theory of sustainable development of economic systems. The paper presents ways and means of solving three problems arising in the process of effective management of sustainable innovation development of industrial production at the level of industries and enterprises: taking into account the impact on the activation of innovation activity of incoming open “tangible” innovations (patents, licences, software products) and closed innovations in the form of R&D costs; identifying the predominant impact on the resource efficiency of enterprises and industries of certain types of technological innovation-process and product innovations; determining for each type of technological innovation (process and product innovations); determining the impact of the innovation activity of incoming enterprises and industries on the resource efficiency of enterprises and industries.

The impact of social financing structures on different industry sectors: A new perspective based on time-varying and high-dimensional methods

<abstract> <p>With the continuous innovation of financial instruments, the financing structure presents a diversified development trend, and the proportion of direct financing in Aggregate Financing to the Real Economy (AFRE) has been increasing. We utilized monthly data from January 2002 to March 2023 to establish a time-varying spillover index model and a large TVP-VAR model in order to investigate the dynamic impact of the social financing structure on various industry sectors. The empirical results suggested that the impact of financing structure on different industry sectors varies. Direct financing had the least impact on the industry compared to on-balance-sheet financing and off-balance-sheet financing. Lagging effects had the most significant influence on all industries. Furthermore, since 2015, the impact of different industries on the proportion of direct financing has significantly changed, indicating that the impact of direct financing on different industries became apparent during the 'stock crash'. Moreover, the impact of different financing methods on the economic development of various industry sectors was susceptible to external events, and the degree of impact varied. Our results are useful in helping policy makers better understand the changes in different industries affected by the financing structure, which can inform their policy formulation.</p> </abstract>

Specialized metabolite modifications in Brassicaceae seeds and plants: diversity, functions and related enzymes.

Covering: up to 2023Specialized metabolite (SM) modifications and/or decorations, corresponding to the addition or removal of functional groups (e.g. hydroxyl, methyl, glycosyl or acyl group) to SM structures, contribute to the huge diversity of structures, activities and functions of seed and plant SMs. This review summarizes available knowledge (up to 2023) on SM modifications in Brassicaceae and their contribution to SM plasticity. We give a comprehensive overview on enzymes involved in the addition or removal of these functional groups. Brassicaceae, including model (Arabidopsis thaliana) and crop (Brassica napus, Camelina sativa) plant species, present a large diversity of plant and seed SMs, which makes them valuable models to study SM modifications. In this review, particular attention is given to the environmental plasticity of SM and relative modification and/or decoration enzymes. Furthermore, a spotlight is given to SMs and related modification enzymes in seeds of Brassicaceae species. Seeds constitute a large reservoir of beneficial SMs and are one of the most important dietary sources, providing more than half of the world's intake of dietary proteins, oil and starch. The seed tissue- and stage-specific expressions of A. thaliana genes involved in SM modification are presented and discussed in the context of available literature. Given the major role in plant phytochemistry, biology and ecology, SM modifications constitute a subject of study contributing to the research and development in agroecology, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industrial sectors.

Exploring Extremophiles from Bulgaria: Biodiversity, Biopolymer Synthesis, Functional Properties, Applications.

Bulgaria stands out as a country rich in diverse extreme environments, boasting a remarkable abundance of mineral hot waters, which positions it as the second-largest source of such natural resources in Europe. Notably, several thermal and coastal solar salterns within its territory serve as thriving habitats for thermophilic and halophilic microorganisms, which offer promising bioactive compounds, including exopolysaccharides (EPSs). Multiple thermophilic EPS producers were isolated, along with a selection from several saltern environments, revealing an impressive taxonomic and bacterial diversity. Four isolates from three different thermophilic species, Geobacillus tepidamans V264, Aeribacillus pallidus 418, Brevibacillus thermoruber 423, and Brevibacillus thermoruber 438, along with the halophilic strain Chromohalobacter canadensis 28, emerged as promising candidates for further exploration. Optimization of cultivation media and conditions was conducted for each EPS producer. Additionally, investigations into the influence of aeration and stirring in laboratory bioreactors provided valuable insights into growth dynamics and polymer synthesis. The synthesized biopolymers showed excellent emulsifying properties, emulsion stability, and synergistic interaction with other hydrocolloids. Demonstrated biological activities and functional properties pave the way for potential future applications in diverse fields, with particular emphasis on cosmetics and medicine. The remarkable versatility and efficacy of biopolymers offer opportunities for innovation and development in different industrial sectors.

As a result, the supply of quality consumer products to the population isincreasing year by year, and the food source of our population is being provided.

DISPROPORTIONS IN CHINA'S REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AS A FACTOR OF INFLUENCE ON THE FORMATION OF COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OF TERRITORIES

Disparities in regional development have a significant impact on the economic This article examines the disproportions of regional development of the People's Republic of China as a factor influencing the formation of competitive advantages of territories. The study of differences in levels of economic development between regions of China identified areas with significant potential for growth and identified constraints for less developed regions. The investment attractiveness and development of certain industrial sectors are influenced by the development of infrastructure and access to resources. The level of education, qualifications and human resources of different regions forms different potential for territories in attracting talented workforce and developing knowledge of the established industries. The level of innovation, research and development in different regions forms competitive advantages for those territories that have advantages in the introduction of new technologies and the creation of innovative products. The geographical location of the regions determines the territories that have easier access to key markets and international trade routes, which accordingly creates competitive advantages for such territories.

Актуализация диагностики уровня научно-технологической конвергенции нефтехимических предприятий Республики Татарстан

The increase in complexity in all areas of activity, associated with high turbulence, contributed to the complica-tion of control objects in scientific paradigms, and the concept of managing integration processes in conditions of convergence began to dominate in scientific research. The aim of the study is to diagnose the level of scien-tific and technological convergence of economic entities. The author’s methodology for assessing the level of convergence of enterprises is proposed in the paper, based on the results of which the organizational model of transplantation of scientific and technological convergence in the petrochemical industry is developed. The advantage of the methodology from the available ones is that it allows to form a set of organizational solutions for different levels of convergence of enterprises, taking into account their pace and scale of technological de-velopment, as part of modern concepts and management strategies. The results obtained can be used in the activities of enterprises and government agencies responsible for the strategic development of industrial sec-tors.

BIOETHYLENE IS A PROMISING SOURCE OF ENERGY AND RAW MATERIALS FOR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

The modern development of energy, chemical technology and other industrial production sectors is largely focused on processes using renewable raw materials. In the structure of non-traditional energy sources the lion’s share belongs to biomass. The paper provides an prospects assessment for using the available, predominantly solid Ukrainian bioresources, total available amount of which as wood, grain straw and other domestic and industrial organic waste is more than 120 million tons per year, to meet state’s needs both for lubricant and fuel materials and raw materials for chemical industry. A following sequence of transformations for this problem solution were investigated: cellulose of the original raw biomaterial — glucose — bioethanol — ethylene. The option of increasing the effectiveness of the latter stage was considered of obtaining bioethane from bioethanol due to the use of the latest catalysts. The results both physical and computational study of bioethanol dehydration process are given, that allowed to reveal the peculiarities of process kinetics when proposed catalyst using. It is shown that, in addition to reducing energy consumption, the catalyst provides 91 % selectivity for ethylene at ~95 % of the biomethanol conversion rate. The initial data for the design of highly efficient catalytic processes and reactors for the dehydration of bioethanol to ethylene were obtained. Bibl. 20, Fig. 2, Tab. 3.

Modernization of Kuban Economy in Late 1920s — 1930s

The study examines the processes of development of the Kuban region’s industry and its production problems, which were addressed during the first five-year plans. The study presents the results of a comparative analysis of the industrial potential of the Kuban districts, and raises questions about their identification parameters, including directions of development, reconstruction processes, and outcomes. The study demonstrates that the main factors driving the growth of the region’s industry and the development of new sectors are the use of agricultural resources and their processing, expansion of fuel resources and construction materials, reconstruction, and improvements in technical equipment of enterprises. Special attention is given to the production growth and increased economic status of individual large factories and plants. The novelty of this research lies in the comprehensive analysis of industrial sector development in Kuban and their relationships, production growth, and realization of potential for the most significant enterprises in the context of modernization tasks during the first five-year plans. It is noted that four Kuban districts had traditionally played an important role in the economy, possessing a large raw material base specific to each district. The study shows that during the 1920s-1930s period, Kuban witnessed an increase in industrial production output, establishment of new industries (chemical, canning, machine-building, etc.), development of natural resources, and creation of a resort zone in the Kuban Black Sea region.

Analysis of Environmental Carrying Capacity Based on the Ecological Footprint for the Sustainable Development of Alborz, Iran

The quick development of industrial sectors, tourism, and agriculture, which coincided with human habitation in cities, has led to the degradation of environmental qualities. Thus, a detailed plan is required to balance the development and environmental conservation of urban areas to achieve sustainability. This paper uses the environmental carrying capacity (i.e., ecological footprint and biological capacity) model to estimate ecological sustainability and achieve the desired balance. The results reveal that problems, such as unbalanced land development, the destruction of protected areas, and changes in land use in favor of industrial and residential development, persist in the area under study. Additionally, the studied area has been facing an ecological deficit since 1992. If this trend continues, the area will lose its chance for ecological restoration by 2030, when the ecological deficit reaches −3,497,368 hectares. The most important indicators in the ecological footprint were resource consumption in industries, water consumption in agriculture, and pollution generation from industries and household consumption. Therefore, in a sustainable scenario, the ratio of these indicators was changed based on Alborz’s development policies. In order to achieve ecological balance in the study area, short-, medium-, and long-term scenarios were proposed, as follows: (a) preventing the ecological deficit from reaching the critical threshold by 2030, (b) maintaining the ecological deficit at the same level until 2043, and (c) bringing Alborz to ecological balance (bringing the ecological deficit to zero) by 2072.

Prediction of PM10 Concentration in Malaysia Using K-Means Clustering and LSTM Hybrid Model

Following the rapid development of various industrial sectors, air pollution frequently occurs in every corner of the world. As a dominant pollutant in Malaysia, particulate matter PM10 can cause highly detrimental effects on human health. This study aims to predict the daily average concentration of PM10 based on the data collected from 60 air quality monitoring stations in Malaysia. Building a forecasting model for each station is time-consuming and unrealistic; therefore, a hybrid model that combines the k-means clustering technique and the long short-term memory (LSTM) model is proposed to reduce the number of models and the overall model training time. Based on the training set, the stations were clustered using the k-means algorithm and an LSTM model was built for each cluster. Then, the prediction performance of the hybrid model was compared with the univariate LSTM model built independently for each station. The results show that the hybrid model has a comparable prediction performance to the univariate LSTM model, as it gives the relative percentage difference (RPD) less than or equal to 50% based on at least two accuracy metrics for 43 stations. The hybrid model can also fit the actual data trend well with a much shorter training time. Hence, the hybrid model is more competitive and suitable for real applications to forecast air quality.

Analysis DPSIR for the Strategic Environment Assessment in Planning Development in Agropolitan Areas and Minapolitan Areas in East Java

The development plan of Agropolitan and Minapolitan areas in the province of East Java is thought to pose a risk to the environment. Agropolitan/Minapolitan Area development will be followed by industrial sector development, increasing environmental risks such as environmental pollution, both air, soil and water due to waste from agricultural, aquaculture, and/or industrial activities, conversion of agricultural land and ponds, and destruction of other ecosystems. Policies, Plans and Programs (PPPs) Zoning planning and development in Agropolitan Areas and Minapolitan Areas in the form of production center zones, processing industry center zones, collection and distribution center zones is one of the PPPs that requires a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This research was carried out at the zoning locations in East Java Province’s Agropolitan and Minapolitan areas. The purpose of this study is to determine how environmental influences and impacts are caused by Policies, Plans, and Programs (PPPs) planning and zoning development in Agropolitan Areas and Minapolitan Areas in East Java Province in the form of production center zones, processing industry center zones, collection and distribution center zones. Regional environmental analysis and policy evaluation are carried out using the analysis six contents of SEA and DPSIR (Driving Force – Pressure – State – Impact – Response) approach which it is a framework for organizing information and data on environmental conditions. The research results show that data on environmental conditions from PPPs planning and zoning development in the Agropolitan and Minapolitan Areas of East Java Province in the form of production center zones, processing industry center zones, collection and distribution center zones consist of D3TLH water is exceeded and has not been exceeded, environmental impact and risk, service performance or ecosystem services, level of vulnerability to climate change, resistance level and biodiversity potential, and estimated environmental risk impact. The research’s findings indicate that SEA is a very beneficial and effective ongoing usage of evaluation tools to provide solutions or recommendations based on an in-depth review process that includes mitigation and alternatives.

METHODS FOR ASSESSING THE TECHNICAL CONDITION OF DRILL ROTORS

This article, devoted to methods for assessing the technical condition of drill rotors, will help to consider the problem of servicing industrial equipment. The relevance of this work lies in the fact that in today's time, with the development of industrial sectors, both in our country and in other countries, there is a need for new and effective approaches to assessing the technical condition of equipment. Especially with the expansion of the boundaries of the oil and gas industry, the number of unexplored deposits is increasing. To process such deposits, there is a need to introduce new methods of maintenance. In order to increase the productivity of equipment that works for a long time, sometimes continuously, it is important to adhere to certain service methods. The aim of the work is to study the available methods for assessing the technical condition of drill rotors and propose a new integrated approach that combines the available indicators and criteria of known methods. This article discusses in detail the methods for assessing the technical condition of drill rotors, their characteristics are studied. The objectives of this work are to analyze the available methods for assessing the technical condition of drilling equipment, to determine the procedure for establishing the noise and vibration characteristics of rotors, to develop criteria for assessing the technical condition of the rotor. The article also analyzes the factors affecting the operation of drill rotors in operating conditions. Having studied the existing methods, a new integrated method is proposed, which, through a point approach and the choice of a specific method, based on the available data on the unit, will ensure higher reliability and longevity of the drill rotors used. The use of an integrated method is based on the calculation of all important points that are relevant to the object under study. The proposed method will have to reduce errors and malfunctions of drill rotors, increase the accuracy and service life of the equipment. The choice of an integrated method will help to ensure the continuous operation of drill rotors in industrial enterprises. Identification of Russian Clusters Based on the Synthesis of Functional and Spatial Approaches

Introduction. The study continues the approbation of the methodology of cluster identification, developed earlier by the authors and the study of regional industry specialization, within the framework of which the database “Clusters of Russian Regions” was developed. The relevance of the topic is the necessity of the methodology for complex clustering of regions in order to provide further recommendations for the development of industrial sectors. The purpose of the article is to develop and test the methodology for identifying clusters on the territory of Russia based on the synthesis of functional and spatial approaches. Materials and Methods. The analysis of intersectoral relations within the framework of the functional approach consisted in the application of the maximum method, which allows to trace the chain of consumption relative to the main suppliers and main consumers between industries based on the Russian “Input – Output” table of 2016. The spatial approach was implemented by calculating location quotients, determining z-scores, correlation coefficients analysis between clusters’ location quotients to establish regional and interregional links. Results. The results of the article have tested the methods proposed by the authors for the clustering process of regions. The results obtained after applying the methods revealed the localization of the cluster “Chemical Products” in the territories of certain regions of the Russian Federation and its existing significant functional and spatial relationship with the clusters: “Construction”, “Production Equipment” and others. Moreover, it has been determined that the chemical industry has different types of connections: both the functional connection (with the “Metallurgy” cluster) and the presence of spatial communication: interregional (“Construction”), regional (“Production equipment” and others). Therefore, it has been proved that an integrated approach is necessary to identify industrial clusters. Discussion and Conclusion. Considerations of previous studies on regional clustering and our obtained results on the cluster “Chemical products” have confirmed the need to use the complex methodology of regional clustering, which includes the synthesis of functional and spatial approaches, since both approaches separately have their limitations: functional connection does not mean the existence of spatial (analysis of clusters “Chemical products” and “Metallurgy” interconnection) and vice versa. This result will help to comprehensively solve the problem of the chemical industry development in Russia, due to the understanding of the competent placement of enterprises and taking into account the relationship with enterprises of various industries. The materials of the article can be useful both for scientists dealing with the problems of regional economic development, and for governmental bodies whose goals include making managerial decisions in the field of industrial development.
