Hand in hand or left behind: The dual impact of leading firms’ digital technologies on industry digital transformation

This study, utilizing Chinese listed companies from 2007 to 2022, reveals that enterprises can improve their digital transformation strategies by learning from the digital technologies of industry-leading companies. By free-riding on technology adoption, enterprises can reduce their R&D investments in implementing digital transformation projects, as existing digital technologies can be copied and improved for their own use. Furthermore, we find that firms with stronger research capabilities are more efficient at learning from leading firms’ digital technologies. Better digital technologies not only optimize a firm’s strategic plan for digital transformation but also enhance the actual implementation of such projects. This enhancement is achieved by easing financing constraints and diversifying the upstream chain. Our findings are robust to alternative variable measures and endogeneity tests. Overall, we highlight the technological spillovers of digital technology innovations by leading firms, facilitating a deeper digital transformation of other firms through various governance channels.

Abstract: In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the digital transformation of industries has become paramount, with multinational corporations (MNCs) recognizing the pivotal role of sales digitization in their development trajectory. This study delves into the multifaceted impact of sales digitization on MNCs, elucidating both its benefits and the formidable challenges it presents. Notably, the integration of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the collection and analysis of sales data, offering MNCs unprecedented insights into consumer behavior and market dynamics. By leveraging big data and AI technologies, MNCs can optimize their operations and substantially reduce the costs associated with data collection, particularly in diverse and segmented markets. This transformative synergy plays a pivotal role across various domains, including market analysis, predictive modeling, customer relationship management, and the formulation of agile marketing strategies. Despite these advancements, research reveals that MNCs continue to grapple with significant barriers and complexities in the process of sales digitization. This article aims to bridge this research-practice gap by offering pragmatic solutions and actionable strategies tailored to address the identified challenges. By emphasizing the importance of organizational agility, talent acquisition, and strategic partnerships, MNCs can effectively navigate the complexities of sales digitization and unlock its full potential. The impact of digital policies on urban economic resilience under the low-carbon background: A deep identification based on environmental regulation and industrial digital transformation

With over exploitation and increasingly severe environmental pollution, traditional economic growth models are no longer able to promote high-quality regional economic development. Especially in recent years, the limitations of resources and environment, global geopolitical conflicts, and other factors have brought enormous uncertainty to the economic development of each country. To cope with the uncertainty of economic development, it is necessary to use the digital economy formed by the new generation of information technology to strengthen the economic resilience of various regions. This study collected panel data from 30 provinces and cities in China from 2013 to 2022, using the PSM-DID model to examine the subtle relationship between the formulation of digital policies in different cities and their economic resilience. Specifically, environmental regulations and industrial digital transformation play an important role in the process of urban digital policies affecting economic resilience. The research findings of this article emphasize the crucial role of digital policies in addressing the current challenges of economic uncertainty. Through empirical research, the results show that the strategic implementation of digital policies can not only effectively promote the digital transformation of traditional industries, but also strengthen the role of environmental regulations in promoting sustainable development of industries. The digital transformation of industries and sustainable development will significantly enhance regional innovation capabilities and ultimately strengthen regional economic resilience.

Enabling Green Innovation Quality through Green Finance Credit Allocation: Evidence from Chinese Firms

As one of the world’s largest economies and the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, China plays a critical role in global environmental management. As China emphasizes new quality productive forces, understanding how green finance can enable green innovation quality (GIQ) is essential for projecting China’s influence in the sustainable development of the global ecological environment. This paper sets up a quasi-natural experiment using the Green Credit Policy (GCP) to examine the impact of green financial credit allocation on the enterprises’ GIQ. The findings demonstrate that the GCP has the potential to improve the GIQ of the green credit-restricted industries, compared to non-green credit-restricted ones. It is worth noting that as China speeds up its industrial digital transformation and productivity improvement, green financial credit allocation can elevate the digitization level and total factor productivity of green credit-restricted industries, leading to a higher GIQ by curbing corporate shadow banking. Further research shows that fintech and financial regulation can strengthen the positive influence of the GCP on GIQ. Moreover, regional intellectual property protection has a beneficial synergistic effect in combination with the policy.

Energy efficiency in production systems and processes is a key global research topic, especially in light of the Green Deal, Industry 4.0/5.0 paradigms, and rising energy prices. Research on improving the energy efficiency of production based on artificial intelligence (AI) analysis brings promising solutions, and the digital transformation of industry towards green energy is slowly becoming a reality. New production planning rules, the optimization of the use of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPSs), and the effective use of production data and their optimization with AI bring further opportunities for sustainable, energy-efficient production. The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate and quantify the research results, trends, and research impact on energy management in production based on AI-based demand forecasting. The value of the research includes the broader use of AI which will reduce the impact of the observed environmental and economic problems in the areas of reducing energy consumption, forecasting accuracy, and production efficiency. In addition, the demand for Green AI technologies in creating sustainable solutions, reducing the impact of AI on the environment, and improving the accuracy of forecasts, including in the area of optimization of electricity storage, will increase. A key emerging research trend in green energy management in manufacturing is the use of AI-based demand forecasting to optimize energy consumption, reduce waste, and increase sustainability. An innovative perspective that leverages AI’s ability to accurately forecast energy demand allows manufacturers to align energy consumption with production schedules, minimizing excess energy consumption and emissions. Advanced machine learning (ML) algorithms can integrate real-time data from various sources, such as weather patterns and market demand, to improve forecast accuracy. This supports both sustainability and economic efficiency. In addition, AI-based demand forecasting can enable more dynamic and responsive energy management systems, paving the way for smarter, more resilient manufacturing processes. The paper’s contribution goes beyond mere description, making analyses, comparisons, and generalizations based on the leading current literature, logical conclusions from the state-of-the-art, and the authors’ knowledge and experience in renewable energy, AI, and mechatronics.

Guided by the Teacher Teaching Ability Competition, Promoting the Digital Reform of Teaching

In the current context of industrial digital transformation and upgrading, the digital transformation and upgrading of vocational education is imperative. This article analyzes the current situation of digital teaching in vocational colleges, combined with the analysis of the teaching ability competition plan of the National Vocational Skills Competition for Teachers, and explores and analyzes the specific measures for the reform of digital teaching in vocational colleges during the digital transformation process: (1) Improving and optimizing digital infrastructure, creating a new environment for digital teaching, (2) Using teaching ability competitions as a driving force to promote digital classroom reform, (3) Putting effort into the technological application to improve the digital literacy and execution ability of teachers.

Digital transformation, blockchain, and the music industry: A review from the perspective of performers’ collective management organizations

This study examines the challenges related to the music industry's digital transformation and potential role of blockchain from the perspective of collective management organizations (CMOs). Building on desk research and primary data from semi-structured surveys conducted with C-level executives and managers, this empirical analysis identifies major projects, their state of development, and prospects for digital transformation based on blockchain in the music industry. The findings reveal that there are a limited number of blockchain projects led by and/or with the relevant participation of CMOs. However, most are just research projects, proofs of concept, or pilots, showing that blockchain is currently in an experimental phase of development on the periphery of the music industry's digital transformation. This is not very different from analysts' understanding of the current situation and perspectives on the mass adoption of blockchain in other industries. In summary, blockchain is neither at the core of the music industry's digital transformation nor a priority for CMOs leading this process from the perspective of intellectual property rights management. The limited quality of music metadata, sparsity of sound data sources, and absence of a common data governance framework among different stakeholders within the industry are the main impediments to transforming blockchain into a global solution with transformative potential. Overall, the results provide a snapshot of the current status and possible future trajectories of blockchain adoption as a paradigm for intellectual property rights exchange within the music industry.

Search of opportunities for digitalization of infrastructure and establishment of industry 5.0 based on the application of artificial intelligence: regional aspect of digital transformation

The consistent practice of digitalization shows the ‘emergence’ of a new quality of work of development institutes, businesses. The further development of the infrastructure, taking into account innovations and ‘digits’, will make it possible to fulfill important tasks in the partial implementation of the directions of progressive digital development of the regions of Ukraine outlined by the government in the post-war period. The purpose of the article is research and data analysis in terms of sub-indices of digital transformation of the regions of Ukraine with the aim of finding opportunities for digitization of infrastructure and working business processes. The authors consider three stages of the development of artificial intelligence through the prism of digitalization of the economy and virtual reality, namely: basic artificial intelligence, universal artificial intelligence, artificial super intelligence. The article attempts to present the opportunities created as a result of industry digital transformation, the development of the Internet, the penetration of basic e-services, the introduction of a paperless regime, and the development of centers for the provision of administrative services. The sub-index ‘Penetration of basic e-services’ shows positive dynamics. Improvement of this sub-index indicates an improvement in terms of connection to the Unified Information System of the Social Sphere; availability in all departments of the State Registration of Civil Status Acts, maternity hospitals e-Malyatko; connecting the Technical Inventory Bureau to the State Register of Property Rights. It was concluded that the new virtual reality in combination with the ever-present application of the latest information and communication technologies is the driving force behind the formation of Industry 5.0, innovations are ‘born’, and new types of digital services appear. The IoT, big data analytics, AI, communicativeness and networking of interactions, diffusion of innovations and Internet technologies become the impetus for digital and innovative changes in all sectors of the economy.

Li-MSD: A lightweight mitigation solution for DAO insider attack in RPL-based IoT

Many IoT applications run on a wireless infrastructure supported by resource-constrained nodes which is popularly known as Low-Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs). Currently, LLNs play a vital role in digital transformation of industries. The resource limitations of LLNs restrict the usage of traditional routing protocols and therefore require an energy-efficient routing solution. IETF’s Routing Protocol for Low-power Lossy Networks (RPL, pronounced “ripple”) is one of the most popular energy-efficient protocols for LLNs, specified in RFC 6550. In RPL, Destination Advertisement Object (DAO) control message is transmitted by a child node to pass on its reachability information to its immediate parent or root node. An attacker may exploit the insecure DAO sending mechanism of RPL to perform “DAO insider attack” by transmitting DAO multiple times. This paper shows that an aggressive DAO insider attacker can drastically degrade network performance. We propose a Lightweight Mitigation Solution for DAO insider attack, which is termed as “Li-MSD”. Li-MSD uses a blacklisting strategy to mitigate the attack and restore RPL performance, significantly. By using simulations, it is shown that Li-MSD outperforms the existing solution in the literature.

PEMBUATAN DAN PELATIHAN SISTEM INFORMASI SEBAGAI UPAYA PENINGKATAN KINERJA DC MALL BATAM

Digital transformation in Industry 5.0 has become a driving force in moving companies to improve the quality of services provided to customers and ease of work. The company's needs in carrying out strategic work and policies cannot be separated from the use of systems to help manage company data. DC Mall rents out its locations to parties such as shopping centers, supermarkets, exhibition corridors, restaurants and electronics stores. One of the routine tasks in managing DC Mall is paying utilities and rent for each unit. Payments are made to the mall management every month. Efforts to develop an information system that can cover all parts of mall management, including finance, customer service, marketing and others. The aim of this activity is to implement an information system at DC Mall that is beneficial for employee and company performance. The new system is designed to cover the weaknesses of the previous system. This service activity, which includes observation, data collection, design, implementation and evaluation, was carried out for approximately three months, starting from November 10 to January 19 2024. Each member is responsible for making observations, surveying locations, collecting data, helping create information systems and training employees, and compiling service reports. Based on the results of the service, it can be concluded that the creation of the new DC Mall information system has been successful based on feedback from employees in operating and carrying out their duties.

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, there is a continuous transformation of processes in the labor market. Digitalization of society affects the structure of the employment sector, when some professions become obsolete due to automation of work processes. At the same time, there is a demand for new competencies aimed at working in an online environment. The purpose of this article is to analyze current global economic and technological trends affecting the transformation of the labor market and the formation of new socio-economic relations in the context of the formation of the digital economy. The author draws attention to changes in the nature of work and forms of work activity, requirements for professional skills and abilities. It shows how changes related to the digitalization of the economy directly affect the issues of training and retraining of the most popular specialists. The article systematizes the main global trends in the labor market caused by the digitalization of the economy and the widespread introduction of Information Computer Technologies. In the course of the research, the author revealed that digitalization of the economy has the opposite impact on labor markets, leading to multidirectional processes in the medium term, which is expressed in the reduction of low-skilled jobs, an increase in the level of robotization of production, differentiation of forms of Organization of production, revision of types of economic relations. As a result of digital transformation in industry, it became possible to produce products with higher quality, and the human factor became less significant in many production and technology sectors. The negative consequences of digitalization include the disappearance of a large number of professions, the release of workers, and an increase in unemployment. The author concludes that digital inequality in regional labor markets, with its further development, may negatively affect ensuring the country's economic sovereignty. At the same time, the results of the study suggest that no automation can completely replace a person, so forecasting total unemployment due to the robotization of production is temporary.

Human resource practices and labour process of movie projection in China's rural areas in the digital era

PurposeRegarding human resource and labour relations management, academia focuses mainly on cities; however, rural areas are an integral part of China's economic structure. This study focuses on the movie projection industry in China's rural areas and explores how human resource practices (HRPs) are transformed and the labour process is reconstructed in digital transformation.Design/methodology/approachWe adopt a case study of a rural movie projection company. The company's HRPs reconstructed the labour process of movie projection, and they have been promoted as national standards. Data were collected from in-depth interviews, files and observations.FindingsRural movie projection companies combine high-performance and paternalistic HRPs in the media industry's digital transformation. HRPs and digital technology jointly reconstruct the labour process. First, the HRPs direct labour process practices towards standardisation. Second, the digital supervision platform guides the control style from simple to technical, placing projectionists under pressure while increasing management efficiency. Third, rural movies made using digital technology have disenchanted rural residents. Accordingly, the conventional relationships between the “country and its citizens,” “individuals themselves,” and “models and individuals” have been removed, and a new relationship between “individuals themselves” is formed thanks to the novel HRPs.Originality/valueThis research plays a crucial role in exposing researchers to the labour process of rural movie projection, which is significant in China but often ignored by Western academia and advances the Chinese contextualisation of research on labour relations.

Using Solidworks Simulation tool for automated design of drying chambers and study of their operation parameters

The paper proposes a modern approach to the automated design of three-dimensional models of wood drying chambers and the study of their operation parameters using the SolidWorks Simulation tool, which makes it possible to create various information models using computer tools. Therefore, in this paper, a three-dimensional model of a wood drying chamber was developed and presented, which includes its main components: walls, ceilings, door, stacks of lumber to be dried, a fresh air supply system, a system for its circulation through fans and heating through heaters. For the automated design of three-dimensional models of all these components, the corresponding algorithms were also developed and programmatically implemented using a specialized SolidWorks application programming interface. At the same time, the developed software application takes into account the parameters entered by the user, including the size, quantity, and type of lumber to be dried. In addition, several thermal calculations were performed across the stack, including with different air velocities. This allows us to analyze the effect of this speed on the distribution of heat transfer across the stack. In general, the obtained results are automatically displayed in one of the windows of the software application. This approach makes it possible to obtain results in the background of SolidWorks with minimal user intervention. Despite the fact that such studies are carried out in SolidWorks Simulation, the graphical results, including the temperature distribution across the stack, are fully automated without user intervention. The software application also makes it possible to automatically change the geometry of a three-dimensional model of a wood drying chamber or stacks within specified limits. In turn, the use of the developed software application in combination with SolidWorks Simulation can effectively speed up the process of creating three-dimensional models of wood drying chambers and studying their operation parameters. In general, this work reflects the trend towards digital transformation in industry, opening up new opportunities for woodworking enterprises and contributing to their market competitiveness and production efficiency.
