We study multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions from the point of view of an independent cluster emission model which as far as this work is concerned, can also be viewed as a simple modification of the Chew-Pignotti model. Our main points are as follows. (i) The π −, K − and p inclusive y-distributions are approximately described by a common shape. In particular, besides the dominance of triple-Regge behavior near the physical boundary, an empirical fixed-power extrapolation of the triple-Regge formula approximately described the distribution in the fragmentation region, which then smoothly joins onto the plateau region. (ii) The average multiplicities in the energy region near threshold have the behavior [ ln(s/s th )] 1−2α B ≈ ln 3 (s/s th ) , which is governed by the same empirical extrapolation. (iii) Based on an independent cluster emission model and our empirical inclnsive distribution, we get a reasonable simultaneous description to the σ T, 〈 n〉 and σ n versus n data.
