The ability to write response texts is an important skill for junior high school students. This ability can help students to understand and communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. However, based on observations and data obtained from teachers, many junior high school students experience difficulty in writing response texts. This can be seen from the low scores of students in the response text material. This research aims to increase the activeness and ability to write response texts of class VII students at SMPN 24 Makassar through value-added group discussion methods. This research uses a classroom action research design with 4 cycles. The research subjects were students. Data was collected through observation, rubric assessment, and interviews. The research results show that the value-added group discussion method can increase students' activeness and ability to write response texts. This increase can be seen from the increase in student participation in group discussions, the frequency of expressing opinions and ideas, the frequency of asking questions, student focus and attention, the quality of the response text framework, the quality of paragraph development, and the quality of language use. The findings of this research indicate that the value-added group discussion method can be an effective alternative learning method to increase students' activeness and learning ability in Indonesian language subjects, especially response text material.

On the Use of an Online Polling Platform for Enhancing Student Engagement in an Engineering Module

Students’ engagement is a fundamental challenge in large classrooms in higher education. In recent years, innovative technologies such as electronic learning and online polling platforms have made learning more engaging, effective, and interactive. By using these platforms, educators can create more inclusive and enriching learning environments. This paper presents a novel approach in which an online technology is employed to enhance students’ learning experience. In this approach, features of an online polling platform, i.e., Slido, are employed to enhance students’ engagement in an engineering module, i.e., ‘Mechanics of Solids’, which is recognised as a fundamentally challenging module with difficult subjects. This study investigates how the interactive features of such technologies, such as real-time polls, question and answer (Q&A) sessions, and quizzes, can provide a more active and practical learning environment by improving student engagement in the classroom. In total, six online polls were designed: one for ice-breaking, two on the topics of shear forces and bending moment, two on stresses, and one on deflection. Each poll was presented to the students, and they participated in them by scanning a QR code or typing the poll’s code online. The rate of students’ participation in polls is extensively discussed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The findings of this study show a significant increase in student participation in classroom activities compared to traditional methods. Student feedback also indicates a positive learning experience with the use of the proposed approach. It is shown that the proposed approach has the potential to transform the way engineering students engage with challenging subjects, leading to enhanced learning outcomes and a more positive learning experience.

TEACHER PERCEPTIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A DEMOCRATIC CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

The implementation of a democratic classroom atmosphere in elementary schools is still very rare because most of them are still authoritarian and focus on the teacher, even though a democratic classroom atmosphere is very important because it can foster students' enthusiasm for learning, increase student participation in learning, teach democratic values, and create a classroom culture that reflects democratic character. Therefore, this research is important to find out the strategies and ways that teachers can create a democratic classroom atmosphere by recognizing the diverse characteristics of their students. Part of the purpose of this research is to find out teachers' understanding of a democratic classroom atmosphere, efforts, forms of implementation, and evaluations made by teachers in implementing a democratic classroom atmosphere in elementary schools. This study used a sample of 30 students from grades V and VI of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan Surakarta. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research by describing the data that has been obtained and analyzing the results of the research. Data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis of research results using transcription and classification. The results in this study show that teachers have successfully implemented a democratic classroom atmosphere. Teacher perceptions are in accordance with the concept of a democratic classroom atmosphere, teacher efforts and implementation are carried out by fostering active participation of students in discussion activities, providing equal access and facilities, appreciation, interpreting diversity, and giving students freedom to express and speak without fear of being punished. Teacher evaluation uses reflection and direct observation during learning.

Evaluation of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Culture Atmosphere in Universities Based on Sentiment Analysis

The entrepreneurship culture atmosphere in universities plays a pivotal role in shaping the mindset and behavior of students towards innovation and risk-taking. Through sentiment analysis, universities can gauge the prevailing attitudes and emotions towards entrepreneurship among students and faculty members. A positive entrepreneurship culture atmosphere fosters an environment of creativity, resilience, and collaboration, encouraging students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and take calculated risks. By promoting a supportive ecosystem that celebrates failure as a learning opportunity and provides resources and mentorship for budding entrepreneurs, universities can cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit among their community members. Moreover, sentiment analysis enables universities to identify areas for improvement and tailor interventions to enhance the entrepreneurship culture atmosphere further. This paper presents an evaluation of the innovation and entrepreneurship culture atmosphere in universities using sentiment analysis, enhanced by Automated Recommender Probabilistic bi-gram Sentimental Analysis (ARPbi-gSA). The research aims to assess the prevailing sentiments and attitudes towards innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members within university communities. Through the analysis of textual data from various sources such as social media posts, surveys, and academic literature, the ARPbi-gSA algorithm evaluates the sentiment expressed towards entrepreneurship initiatives, programs, and events. Results from sentiment analysis provide insights into the overall positivity or negativity surrounding the entrepreneurship culture atmosphere, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. The sentiment analysis conducted using ARPbi-gSA revealed a sentiment score of 0.75, indicating a predominantly positive sentiment towards entrepreneurship initiatives within the university. Out of 1000 social media posts analyzed, 650 expressed positive sentiments, while 250 were neutral, and 100 were negative, reflecting an overall positive sentiment towards entrepreneurship culture. Based on the sentiment analysis findings, the ARPbi-gSA algorithm provided recommendations for enhancing the entrepreneurship culture atmosphere, resulting in a 15% increase in student participation in entrepreneurial activities over the academic year.

Let's talk posters: a novel role-playing activity to prepare undergraduate researchers for poster presentations.

Calls to increase undergraduate involvement in research have led to a significant increase in student participation via course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). These CUREs provide students an authentic research experience, which often involves dissemination of research by public speaking. For instance, the First-year Research Immersion (FRI) program at Binghamton University is a three-semester CURE sequence that prepares students for scientific research and effective communication of their findings. After one semester of research, students from the FRI program are tasked with presenting their research to hundreds of faculty members, staff, friends, and family at the annual FRI poster session. However, our students, and undergraduates in general, report high anxiety and fear around public speaking such as this. To better prepare our students for public speaking at a research poster session, we developed a workshop that includes a novel role-play activity to mimic a fast-paced poster session or conference in order to address students' fears and increase confidence levels. The role-play activity gives students iterative practice such that they are prepared for the realities of a poster session including variation of poster attendees. During the activity, students switch roles between presenter and audience member. In the role of an audience member, students are given Pokèmon-like role-playing cards that explain the traits and abilities of various types of poster-goers that students might come across (faculty in and out of discipline, staff, family, friends, etc.). Students improvise and enact their card-assigned role as they engage with their classmates who are practicing their poster presentations. To assess student outcomes, students were given three surveys: pre-activity, post-activity, and post-poster presentation. Immediately following the activity, 64% of students reported the highest level of confidence, and following the poster session, 93% of students reported extreme confidence in their poster presentation abilities. These data show that this role-play activity can help address student confidence and better prepare students to communicate their research.

Analysis of the Use of Graphic, Audiovisual and Computer Media in Indonesian Language Learning in Elementary Schools

This research aims to describe the use of learning media in Indonesian language learning used by teachers and students at SDN Jati 2 Masaran. There is an urgency for learning media in elementary schools in the current digital era. First, using media can create a special attraction in learning. Interesting learning media can provide a pleasant learning experience for effective learning. Learning media can help students understand concepts more easily and quickly. Third, increase student participation. This can increase student involvement and participation in learning. Fourth, increase student creativity. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive research type. Research data comes from observations and interviews with data sources of students and teachers in elementary schools. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that at SDN Jati 2 Masaran teachers have used graphic media in the form of whiteboards, KBBI, puzzles, and charts and audiovisual media in the form of tape recorders, speakers and radio, as well as computer-based media in the form of powerpoint, web-based, and applications. in supporting Indonesian language learning.

At the Intersection of Science and Education: The Process of Scientists and Educators Co‐developing Authentic Learning Experiences for K‐16 Students

AbstractStudents lose interest in science as they progress from elementary to high school. There is a need for authentic, place‐based science learning experiences that can increase students' interest in science. Scientists have unique skillsets that can complement the work of educators to create exciting experiences that are grounded in pedagogy and science practices. As scientists and educators, we co‐developed a lesson plan for high school students on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, a historically underserved coastal area, that demonstrated realistic scientific practices in students' local estuaries. After implementation of the lesson plan, we observed that students had a deeper understanding of ecosystem processes compared to their peers who had not been involved, were enthusiastic about sharing their experiences, and had a more well‐rounded ability to think like a scientist than before the lesson plan. We share our experiences and five best practices that can serve as a framework for scientists and educators who are motivated to do similar work. Through collaboration, scientists and educators have the potential to bolster student science identities and increase student participation in future scientific endeavors.

Evaluation model of English Informatization Teaching Quality in Universities Based on Particle Swarm Algorithm

Teaching quality in the field of English education plays a crucial role in shaping students' language proficiency, communication skills, and overall understanding of the language. One of the most significant contributions of deep learning to English education is its ability to personalize instruction. Deep learning algorithms analyze individual students' learning patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. This paper designed a framework for enhancing teaching quality in English education by implementation of Non-Convex Particle Swarm Optimization and Optimization (NC-PSOO) with a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). The proposed model NC-PSOO with GAN, presents the information related to the teaching and learning process. The features are computed based on the utilization of the non-convex estimation for the analysis of the variables. Through the implementation of an effective process of data pre-processing using the Fejer filter, feature selection and extraction with NC-PSOO, and classification with GAN, this model aims to improve student performance, elevate the quality of teaching materials, increase student participation, enhance homework quality, and balance exam difficulty. The performance of NC-PSOO with GAN is compared with conventional optimization techniques like Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) to demonstrate its superior efficacy. The findings highlight the model's capability to achieve higher accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, ultimately improving teaching quality in English education.

Case Method in The Problem-Based Learning Model to Increase Student Participation in The Basic Physics Course

Today's lecture activities require more active learning. However, lecture activities in Basic Physics courses often always focus on the lecturer. This research analyzes the application of the case method in increasing student participation in the Basic Physics I course. This research is a 2 cycle of classroom action research applied to the Basic Physics I course in the 2023/2024 academic year. The research design uses a spiral model by Kemmis and McTaggart. The research results showed that there was an increase in student activity scores in cycle 1 and cycle 2, namely 38.86% (poor category) to 69.14 (fair category).

The Impact of Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) on Student Participation Based Jigsaw Learning Model

Participation is an important factor in achieving maximum learning in achieving learning goals. However, the level of student participation in learning is still relatively low. Therefore, efforts need to be made in the form of innovation in learning to increase student participation in learning, such as implementing LSLC based on the Jigsaw learning model. This research is a descriptive study with a sample of class XI IPS 1 SMA Adabiah 2 Padang. This research aims to see the impact of LSLC on student participation in learning using the Jigsaw learning model. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that for each meeting there was a significant increase in student participation. So it can be concluded that learning using LSLC and the Jigsaw learning model has a positive impact on student participation in learning.

Analsisis Penerapan Media Pembelajaran dalam Proses Belajar Mengajar pada Jenjang Sekolah Dasar

The aim of this research is to find out a clear picture of how learning media is implemented at the elementary school level, specifically in the West Kalimantan-Malaysia border area. The stages of the research method used are in the first stage, preparing data collection tools. The second stage in the research carried out was data collection and collection. The initial activity was observation by inspecting elementary schools in Bengkayang Regency. A literature review is carried out to look for data or source support that is relevant to the research. Flashcards as Media to Students’ Achieve Vocabulary: Process and Role of Flashcard in Vocabulary Class

This study aims to analyze the process in class with flashcards and the role of flashcards in learning vocabulary. The method of this research is the qualitative descriptive method that uses random sampling. This research was conducted in Senior High School in Karawang. The instruments of this research used observation and interviews to collect data. Other information, in analyzing the data of this study using the Interactive Model. The results obtained from this study are that flash cards make the class more productive, increase student motivation, increase student response rates, increase student participation, make students active and participatory enthusiastic in the learning process, increase students’ pronunciation, increase students’ fluency and increase students’ comprehension.

Teachers in Math Lessons in the Digital Age: The Real Face of Distance Education

The COVID-19 pandemic has made distance education compulsory for all students in primary, secondary, and higher education in Türkiye. This situation has brought about many changes in teaching methods, material use, assessment and evaluation processes, and course durations. This study investigates the effects of these changes on secondary school mathematics teachers and their experiences and difficulties adaptation processes. This study conducted using a qualitative approach as a case study, included 75 secondary school mathematics teachers working in Türkiye in the 2020–2021 academic year. The data collection process was conducted online with a semi-structured interview form via Google Form. The obtained data were evaluated by content analysis. According to the findings of the research, teachers tend to provide skill-based questions as homework during the distance education process, rather than the lesson. Teachers who have negative judgments about assessment-evaluation processes find the course durations in distance education insufficient. Teachers who use different motivation tools in the distance education process, on the one hand, think that the process improves them; on the other hand, they expressed their concerns in terms of professional development. Teachers need more support and training to cope with the difficulties they face in the distance education process. In addition, they should be supported to improve themselves in online assessment and evaluation strategies and increase student participation.

Hardiness and Zoom Fatigue on Nursing Students: A Cross-Sectional Study in Indonesia During Online Learning.

The Covid-19 pandemic caused a change in learning methods to online learning. Zoom fatigue is a problem that many students experience during online learning. Zoom fatigue has an impact on physical and psychological problems so that it disrupts the online learning process. Hardiness is needed by students in order to adapt to online learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hardiness and zoom fatigue in nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. The sample technique used total sampling. Respondents were 480 nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. The research instrument used the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue Scale questionnaire and the Hardiness Instrument for the Online Learning. This study shows that almost half of the respondents have a medium hardiness level category (45%) and a zoom level of medium fatigue category (46.67%). The results of the analysis show that there is a significant negative relationship between hardiness and zoom fatigue in nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. The higher the student's hardiness level, the lower the student's zoom fatigue level. High hardiness can increase focus during the learning process, increase student participation, and reduce stress and fatigue in students during online learning. Lecturers and students need to collaborate to improve the learning process and repeat mental health problems during online learning. This data forms the basis for university and school nurses in providing interventions for nursing students to reduce the problem of zoom fatigue.

Teaching Critical Thinking Among Students: Research Models And Anomie

Training, management and development of professional resources is important for the development of critical thinking among students. It is no coincidence that the manifestations of critical thinking are more common in students' research activities, as it allows students to assess the study criteria and determine directions of behavior. Moreover, it can be in any key level of study, making new psychological and legal requirements to the whole pedagogical process. To achieve success in some professions, such as a lawyer, psychologist, political scientist, sociologist, a high level of critical thinking is important. Therefore, in the context of teaching critical thinking, various special methods are used, which are presented in this article, and which are aimed not only to improve the quality of learning, increase participation of students, but also develop student-centered learning. The term of critical thinking was observed from socio-psychological and personal-creative points of view. The interconnections between the terms of critical thinking, marginality, deviance and anomie were presented. Taking into account the above, the aim of this article is to present methodological models for the development of the student's research capabilities and critical thinking. As the result of the article it is emphasized the publicly significant, positive impact of teaching critical thinking on the students’ integrating into public process.

Strategies to Increase Student Participation in School Meals in the United States: A Systematic Review.

School meals play a critical role in promoting child nutrition and advancing equity. An understanding of which evidence-based strategies can increase meal participation is needed to improve student school meal consumption and foodservice finances. Our aim was to systematically review the evidence on interventions, initiatives, and policies to increase school meal participation in the United States. Four electronic databases were searched (PubMed, Academic Search Ultimate, Education Resources Information Center, and Thomson Reuters' Web of Science) to identify peer-reviewed and government studies conducted in the United States and published in English through January 2022. Qualitative studies; studies focused on snacks, afterschool meals, or universal free meals as the sole exposure; and studies conducted in schools not participating in the federal school meal programs or outside of the school year were excluded. Risk of bias was assessed using an adapted version of the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Articles were grouped according to type of intervention or policy and were narratively synthesized. Thirty-four articles met inclusion criteria. All studies examining alternative breakfast models (eg, breakfast in the classroom or grab-and-go breakfast) and restrictions on competitive foods found increases in meal participation. There is also some evidence that stronger nutrition standards do not negatively impact meal participation and, in some cases, may promote meal participation. There is limited evidence on other strategies, including taste tests, modified menu options, changes to the meal period length, changes to the cafeteria environment, and wellness policies. There is evidence that alternative breakfast models and restrictions on competitive foods promote meal participation. There is a need for additional rigorous evaluation of other strategies to promote meal participation.

Human Resource Development In Improving the Performance of Lecturers Majoring in Management, Pattimura University, Ambon

The performance of lecturers plays a crucial role in achieving educational goals, and the lack of adequate human resource development can hinder the quality of teaching. This research was conducted to develop human resources and improve the performance of Management Department lecturers at Pattimura University Ambon. Using qualitative research methods, in-depth interviews with lecturers and staff in the department were conducted, along with questionnaires to measure satisfaction levels with human resource development. The study revealed that the Management Department has implemented training and skills development, seminars and workshops, and curriculum development to enhance the performance of lecturers. Appropriate education and training can improve the skills and knowledge of lecturers, and their involvement in research and community service activities can enhance their ability to produce quality research and contribute to society. Institutional support and project-based or collaborative learning activities can also improve the performance of lecturers and increase student participation and skills. Recognizing and appreciating good lecturer performance can motivate them to continue performing well and contributing to the university and society. In conclusion, optimizing education and training, involvement in research and community service, institutional support, project-based or collaborative learning activities, and recognition and appreciation of good performance is crucial for human resource development to improve the performance of Management Department lecturers at Pattimura University Ambon.

PENERAPAN POLA HIDUP SEHAT DALAM PENDIDIKAN JASMANI UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KARAKTER DISIPLIN PADA SISWA MAS KHULAFAUR RASYIDIN

A clean and healthy lifestyle is a health behavior that is carried out out of a person's concern for himself, family members, and other people in the surrounding environment. The application of a healthy lifestyle is not only washing hands with soap but also disposing of garbage in its place in the community environment. The aim is to find out whether students carry out clean and healthy living behaviors as the formation of their disciplinary character. This research method uses a type of classroom action research. The results obtained in implementing a healthy lifestyle through physical education can improve the character of discipline in MAS Khulafaur Rasyidin students, namely there is an increase in student discipline, namely in the implementation of the pre-cycle there are 23.3% of students experiencing good discipline while in cycle I there is a value of 50% increase the results obtained amounted to 26.7% of students who experienced changes when implementing a clean and healthy lifestyle. In addition, it was continued with cycle II with a fairly high value of 93.33% with an increase of 43.33%. The conclusion of this study is that the application of a healthy lifestyle in physical education learning shows an increase in the discipline of Khulafaur Rasyidin MA students. This increase can be seen from an increase in student participation which includes student activity, student discipline, and student interest in adopting healthy living habits.

Promoting Civic Education and State Defense in Increasing Student Participation in the 2024 Elections

This study discusses the Role of Civic Education and State Defense in Increasing Student Participation in the 2024 Elections. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the provision of citizenship education and state defense to students plays a role in increasing their participation to participate in the 2024 election party. The object of this study was in adolescents with an age range of 18-23 years. The populationin this study was 90 respondents with a sample of 40 respondents. The research method used is quantitative descriptive, by looking at partial and simultaneous influences. The sample method used is Simple Random Sampling. The research tests carried out are T test, F test and coefficient of determination. The results of this study include: 1) Civic Education has a positive and significant effect in partially increasing student participation in 2024; 2) State Defense Education has a positive and significant effect in increasing student participation in partial 2024 issue; and 3) Civic Education and State Defense have a positive and significant effect in increasing student participation in 2024 simultaneously.
