The research method used was descriptive observational, the sample consisted of 32 menopausal women in the Rancapanggung Village area, Cililin District, West Bandung Regency. The data collection technique uses a frequency distribution table with direct uric acid examination of menopausal women. The results of the study showed the frequency distribution of uric acid levels in menopausal women, most of the respondents had high uric acid levels because previously most of the respondents had a history of gout. Most respondents had high uric acid levels in the age range 50 years and above.The high levels of uric acid in menopausal women in the Rancapanggung Village area, Cililin District, West Bandung Regency are mostly in the age range 50 years and above.

Mildly decreased egfr modifies the association between uric acid and risk of kidney function decline: a 5-year population-based cohort study

Abstract Background the role of uric acid (UA) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains controversial. In this study, the effects of UA levels on risk of kidney function (KF) decline in patients with normal or mildly decreased KF at baseline were investigated. Methods Data were extracted from the community-based Tongzhou Cohort Study. The cohort of 4246 patients was divided into the normal KF group (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73 m2) or mildly decreased KF group (60 ≤ eGFR < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2). The primary endpoint was the risk of kidney function decline, which defined as a composite of a ≥ 30% decrease in eGFR from baseline or new onset of CKD diagnosed during the annual checkups. Results A total of 284 participants reached the primary endpoint during the 5-year follow-up period. There was a significant interaction between UA levels and baseline eGFR (p < 0.001). Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a U-shaped association between baseline UA levels and the risk of decreased KF for participants with normal KF (cut-off value = 5.0 mg/dL; pnonlinear = 0.025) and a linear association for participants with mildly decreased KF (pnonlinear = 0.384). The odds ratio of an increase in UA levels by 1 mg/dL was 1.15 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.02–1.31, p = 0.028] for the primary endpoint and 1.15 (95% CI = 1.01–1.31, p = 0.037) for new onset of CKD for participants with mildly decreased KF. Conclusion The association between uric acid and risk of KF decline was U-shaped in participants with normal KF while linear in participants with mildly decreased KF.

The Application of Tera Exercises in Reducing Levels of Gout Pain in the Elderly

Gout is a disease caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the body. In the elderly, cells decline due to the aging process which can cause various diseases, one of which is an increase in uric acid levels (hyperuricemia). Elderly people who suffer from gout experience metabolic imbalances in the body. This disorder causes the formation of monosodium urate crystals which cause inflammation and pain. Exercise, one of which is tera exercise, is a non-pharmacological therapy that aims to reduce pain. Objective: This research is to determine the effect of tera exercise on reducing the level of gout pain in the elderly. Method: This type of research is experimental research with design quasy experiment (nonequivalent control group design). The population in this study were elderly people who attended posbindu in Karanganom. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with a total sample of 26 people. The data in this study was collected using a research instrument in the form of a NRS (Numeric Rating Scale) questionnaire pain scale assessment sheet. The data obtained were analyzed using a non-parametric test with the Wilcoxon test to compare the same subjects before and after being given the intervention. Results: The results of statistical tests using the Wilcoxon test showed that the value was p (0.001) <α (0.005) where the p-value was smaller than the alpha value and Ha was accepted. Conclusion: Based on the research results, it was concluded that there was an effect of applying tera exercise in reducing the level of gout pain in the elderly at Posbindu Karanganom.

Evaluation of Some Blood and Biochemical Parameters for Patients with Diabetes

This study was conducted on patients with diabetes, in Samarra General Hospital. In this study, 50 blood samples were collected, 30 of which were taken from patients with diabetes, 20 of which were from non-diabetic people of both sexes, for ages (18_65) and for the period December 5, 2022 to the period is 1 February 2023. Blood was separated to obtain serum for biochemical analyses, and whole blood was sampled for CBC testing. The sugar test was conducted to ensure the presence of diabetes first, and the study confirmed that there was a significant increase in the patients compared to the control group, where the FBG test was conducted, and we note that there is a significant increase in the FBG test for patients with diabetes. A uric acid test was conducted, and the results showed a significant increase in patients compared to the control group, as the results of the analysis indicated that patients with diabetes appeared to have a significant increase in uric acid levels. The urea and creatinine test did not find a significant difference compared to the control group. As for the cbc test, the results for rbc, wbc, plt, hb, pcv showed no significant difference.

Relationship Between Physical Activity and Body Mass Index with Uric Acid Levels in The Community

Physical activity is related to uric acid levels in the blood, and an increase in body mass index (BMI) is associated with an increase in uric acid levels due to increased triglyceride synthesis in the liver associated with increased purine synthesis by new routes, thereby accelerating uric acid production. The results of Riskesdas in 2018 showed the number of joint diseases from the weighted average results in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency was 1,040. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between BMI, physical activity, and uric acid levels in the community in Sukaraya Village, East Baturaja District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency in 2023. This study used an accidental sampling method with a cross-sectional approach and involved 67 respondents with criteria aged between 26 and 45 years, living in Sukaraya Village, being able to read and communicate well, and being willing to be respondents, while the exclusion criteria in this study were not willing to be respondents and could not communicate, and willing to be a respondent, while the exclusion criteria in this study are not willing to be a respondent and cannot be communicated with. The instruments used were the International Physical Activity Quitioner (IPAQ) questionnaire to measure physical activity, scales to measure body weight and height, and uric acid sticks and digital devices (easytouch) to measure uric acid levels. Data were processed using SPSS and chi-square analysis to determine the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. The results of chi-square data analysis showed a relationship between physical activity and uric acid levels (p-value 0.005) and a relationship between BMI and uric acid levels (p-value 0.000). Physical activity and BMI index correlate with uric acid levels in residents in Sukaraya Village, East Baturaja District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. It is necessary to increase knowledge about joint health for the community by providing counseling on joint health and also holding activities such as gymnastics so that physical activity and body mass index can be controlled so as to reduce the risk of high uric acid levels.

Effect of Infused Water Pineapple Cayenne (Ananas Comosus L Merr) on Reducing Uric Acid Levels in Patients With Gout Arthritis

The most common disease in old age and is considered a disease that is generally recognized by the public is gout. An increase in uric acid levels is indicated by rheumatic pain in the joints, pain, redness and swelling. Efforts to search and develop medicines to treat rising uric acid levels continue. One alternative that can reduce uric acid levels is to consume cayenne pineapple-infused water. To determine the effect of cayenne pineapple-infused water on uric acid levels in gout arthritis sufferers. Using a quasi-experimental design with a control group with a sample of 44 respondents. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis. Based on the characteristics of the respondents, it was found that (52.2%) were aged 45-59, female (43.2%), had at least secondary school education (50.0%), worked as a labourer (43.2%) and acid levels. mean pre-intervention urate 8.08 mg/dL, post-intervention means 5.01 mg/dL pre-control mean 8.20 mg/dL, post-control mean 8.02 mg/dL, Mann Whitney test results Posttest uric acid in the intervention group had a mean value of 11.50 mg/dL, in the control group the mean value was 33.50 mg/dL. This study found that in the intervention group, the p-value was 0.000 < 0.05. Shows that there is an effect of giving cayenne pineapple-infused water on uric acid levels in gouty arthritis sufferers.

Association of uric acid with length of stay and mortality in pediatric hospitalized population

PurposeElevated uric acid (UA) levels have been associated with acute and chronic diseases, which could affect the prognosis of pediatric hospitalized patients. However, the association of UA levels with length of hospital stay (LOS) and mortality in hospitalized children and adolescents remains unknown. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of serum UA levels with in-hospital mortality and prolonged LOS in hospitalized children and adolescents. MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted, involving 128 patients under 18 years of age, admitted to a tertiary-care hospital between January 2014 and December 2018. UA levels were assessed with an average of 3 days before the in-hospital outcome (discharge or death). Logistic regression was used to determine the association of UA with prolonged LOS (defined as over 30 days of hospitalization), while Cox regression multivariate analysis was employed to assess UA as a predictor of in-hospital mortality. ResultsUA levels showed an inverse association with prolonged LOS. Specifically, for every 1 mg/dL increase in UA level, the odds of experiencing prolonged LOS decreased by 31% (OR=0.69; 95% CI: 0.50 – 0.95). Additionally, individuals with elevated UA levels had lower odds of prolonged LOS (OR = 0.23; 95% CI: 0.08 - 0.66). However, UA levels were not associated with in-hospital mortality (HR = 1.63; 95% CI: 0.94 – 2.82). ConclusionSerum UA is inversely associated with LOS among children and adolescents, but no association was observed with in-hospital mortality.

This review was written to highlight current data on the most common endocrinopathies in gout for practitioners. The data presented indicate the existence of a relationship between gout and various endocrine diseases. The most important aspect is the presence of metabolic syndrome in most patients with gout, the treatment of which also requires taking into account the effect of prescribed drugs on purine metabolism. On the other hand, effects on certain endocrinological diseases can lead to improved purine metabolism. It has been shown that weight loss, including through bariatric means, is accompanied by a decrease in uric acid levels and may be accompanied by a decrease in the need for urate-lowering therapy. Most glucose-lowering drugs affect purine metabolism, and the presence of concomitant gout may determine the specific choice of antidiabetic therapy. Menopause is characterized by an increase in uric acid levels and the incidence of gout. At the same time, the use of menopausal hormone therapy may be accompanied by both a decrease in uric acid levels and the risk of developing gout. Distribution of the SLC2A9 genotype and its association with the uric acid level in patients with arterial hypertension and atrial fibrillation

Asymptomatic hyperuricemia (HU) is widespread in the population and is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Evidence of numerous studies supports the association between increased uric acid (UA) levels and the risk of arterial hypertension (HTN) and/or atrial fibrillation (AF). One of the causes for an increase in UA levels and a significant risk factor for HU is the polymorphism of the SLC2A9 gene, a highly specific urate transporter in proximal renal tubule cells, encoding the GLUT9 protein.The aim of the study is to investigate the frequency of genotypes and alleles of the SLC2A9 gene rs734553 polymorphic variant and its association with the UA level in patients with HTN and AF, as well as in healthy individuals. 141 patients, including 50 healthy patients (group 1), 68 – with HTN and AF (group 2), 23 – with HTN (group 3) were examined.In the overall group of patients, the frequencies of the SLC2A9 gene rs734553 polymorphism were as follows: AA – 46.1 % (n = 65), AC – 36.2 % (n = 51), CC – 17.7 % (n = 25). According to the genotyping results of patients, in group 1 the AA genotype was 64 % (n = 32), AC – 22 % (n = 11), CC – 14 % (n = 7); in group 2 – 32.4 % (n = 22), 48.5 % (n = 33) and 19.1 % (n = 13); in group 3 47.8 % (n = 11), 30.4 % (n = 7) and 21.7 % (n = 5), respectively. The CC genotype patients (420 [413; 424] μmol/l) and the AC genotype patients (330 [284; 412] μmol/l) had higher uricemia values than those with the AA genotype (310 [281; 341] μmol/l) ( p = 0,003). HU with the AA genotype in group 2 was diagnosed in 2 (2.9 %) patients, with the AC genotype in 12 (17.6 %), and with the CC genotype in 10 (14.7 %) patients; in group 3 – 1 (4.3 %), 1 (4.3 %) and 3 (13 %), respectively. One patient (2 %) with HU in group 1 had the CC genotype.The distribution of genotype and allele frequencies of the SLC2A9 gene rs734553 polymorphic variant and its association with the UA level in patients with HTN and AF, as well as in healthy individuals were established. In patients with HTN and AF, the AC genotype occurred 3 times more often and the CC genotype occurred 2 times more often than in healthy patients. HU occurred significantly more often ( р = 0.003) in the group of patients with HTN and AF and the CC genotype, as well as in patients with the CC genotype.

Associations of serum uric acid levels and anthropometric parameters with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in healthy individuals: innovative insights from a cross-sectional study

Objective Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD is a spectrum of liver disease with a rising prevalence, ranging from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis and cirrhosis, where a significant minority face potential complications. Determining the predictive markers plays a crucial role. This study examined the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and NAFLD in healthy individuals and identified potential other predictors. Material and methods A cohort of 2162 healthy participants attending routine check-up visits between February 2021 and May 2023 were included. Participants underwent abdominal ultrasound, uric acid measurements, and anthropometric assessments by TANITA. NAFLD was graded using a "hepatic steatosis score." Statistical analysis included nonparametric tests, chi-squared tests, Fisher’s exact test, ROC curve analysis, and logistic regression. Results The median age was 45 years (range:18-65). 1017 were male, and 1145 were female. Among the participants, 53.9%, 26.3%, 17.9%, and 1.9% exhibited Grade 0, 1, 2, and 3 hepatic steatosis, respectively. ROC analysis showed 80.0% sensitivity and 78.8% specificity for detecting grade 2 or higher hepatic steatosis with a cutoff value of 5.21 mg/dl of SUA (AUC = 0.82, p < 0.001, 95%CI 0.79-0.84). There were significant associations between elevated uric acid levels and NAFLD. Participants with higher body fat percentages, BMI values, and waist-to-hip ratios also demonstrated an increased prevalence of steatosis. Gender significantly influenced liver steatosis, with males exhibiting higher grades compared to females. Logistic regression analysis highlighted positive associations between NAFLD and body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio, and uric acid levels. Each unit increase in uric acid levels corresponded to a 2.5-fold increase in the odds of NAFLD (p < 0.001, 95% CI = 2.20-2.84). Conclusion Our findings suggest a significant relationship between serum uric acid levels and NAFLD in healthy individuals. Elevated uric acid levels, in conjunction with other anthropometric parameters, may serve as potential predictive markers for NAFLD.

Association of serum uric acid Levels with metabolic syndromes in Korean adolescents.

The study findings investigated uric acid reference values and their association with a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors among adolescents using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using the KNHANES database from 2016 to 2018, involving a total of 2,462 participants aged between 10 and 18 years. Based on age- and sex-specific percentile curves for serum uric acid (SUA) levels from the KNHANES, we examined the correlation between cardiometabolic risk factors and serum uric acid levels. The percentile values of SUA varied with sex and age. In male subjects, SUA levels tended to increase from 10 to 14 years of age and plateaued after 14 years of age. Moreover, the overall uric acid level in females was found to be lower than that in males; the levels tended to increase at approximately 10 to 12 years old but were relatively consistent according to age. Mean uric acid levels increased according to obesity status in both males and females. However, correlation analysis revealed that SUA levels were associated with several metabolic risks even after adjusting for obesity. The detailed metabolic syndrome (MetS) components that were observed to be associated with an increase in uric acid levels were different between males and females, but overall, high uric acid levels increased MetS risk. Additionally, a significant increase in MetS-related odds ratio (OR) for components, including waist circumference (WC), triglyceride (TG) levels, and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), was observed. However, differences between sexes were apparent, with a more pronounced increase in OR based on SUA levels in girls. SUA levels were closely associated with MetS and its components, even in nonobese subjects. Therefore, high SUA levels in children and young adolescents should be closely monitored to prevent MetS.

Analyzing Uric Acid Concentration as a Tool to Diagnose Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder that occurs during pregnancy. So far, uric acid levels have been used as a guide to diagnose preeclampsia. Uric acid is a by-product of metabolism and its levels in the blood can be influenced by various factors, including kidney function and eating habits. This research is an observational study with a prospective approach. In this study, 258 pregnant women were involved at the Wonoasih Community Health Center and Jorongan Community Health Center from March to June 2023. Laboratory examinations were carried out to measure the serum uric acid levels of the research subjects. statistical tests of differences were carried out using SPSS. In pregnant women who suffered from preeclampsia before 34 weeks of gestation and after 37 weeks of gestation with a fetus that was not developing, a significant increase in uric acid levels was found with a Phi coefficient of 0.090 and a contingency test of 0.087. The cut-off point for the uric acid ratio (UAr) test is 1.5, where pregnant women who have been diagnosed with preeclampsia in the 1st trimester of pregnancy have a higher UAr value. The results of the data analysis p value were 0.918 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.858–0.979) in the group of pregnant women with preeclampsia; This means that uric acid can be a tool for diagnosing preeclampsia in pregnant women

Description Of Increased Uric Acid Levels In Ujung Tanduk Village Communities Before And After Drinking Tuak

Tuak is a type of alcoholic drink made from palm sugar. Continuous excessive consumption of palm wine can increase uric acid levels in the body. Uric acid is part of purine metabolism, but if metabolism occurs abnormally there will be a process of accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints which causes quite high levels of pain such as joint disorders (Gouty arthritis). The aim is to determine the description of uric acid levels before and after consuming palm wine in residents in Ujung Tanduk Village, Laguboti District. The research that will be used is a quantitative type of research with a descriptive research design, with a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that 8 research samples, 2 people (25%) of the sample consuming 4 glasses of palm wine experienced a decrease in uric acid levels with an average of 0.25 mg/dl, 4 people (50%) of the sample consuming 6 glasses of palm wine experienced an increase in uric acid levels with an average of 0.4 mg/dl, and 2 people (25%) of the sample who consumed 8 glasses of palm wine experienced an increase in uric acid levels with an average of 1.25 mg/dl. Consuming too much palm wine can increase uric acid, therefore reducing the frequency of consuming palm wine can reduce uric acid levels.

Uji Efektivitas Ekstrak Etanol Daun Kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) Sebagai Antihiperurisemia Pada Tikus Putih Jantan Yang Di Induksi Kalium Oksonat

Kersen plant (Muntingia calabura L.) is a plant that has many properties and is useful as medicine. Hyperuricemia is a condition where there is an increase in uric acid levels above normal. The leaf part of this plant is widely used by the community as a traditional medicine because of its metabolite compounds. Flavonoid compounds in cherry leaves can reduce uric acid levels through inhibition of the xanthine oxidase enzyme, an enzyme that acts as a catalyst in the oxidation process of hypoxanthine to xanthine and then to uric acid. By inhibiting the work of the xanthine oxidase enzyme, the formation of uric acid will also be inhibited. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cherry leaf ethanol extract in reducing uric acid levels in male white rats induced by potassium oxonate. This study used an experimental method using 25 male white rats induced by potassium oxonate. The test animals were divided into 5 groups: negative control (CMC Na 1%), positive control (Allopurinol), EEDK dose of 300 mg/kgBB, EEDK dose of 400 mg/kgBB, EEDK dose of 500 mg/kgBB. Measurement of uric acid levels in rats using the point of care testing (POCT) method. All data obtained were analyzed statistically using the One Way Anova test. The results of the analysis showed that there were significant differences between the negative control, positive control, EEDK 300 mg/kg, EEDK 400 mg/kg, and EEDK 500 mg/kg (P&lt;0.05). The most effective dose of cherry leaf ethanol extract as an antihyperuricemia is the EEDK dose of 500 mg/kg BW. There was no significant difference between EEDK 400 mg/kgBW, EEDK 500 mg/kgBW and positive control (P&gt;0.05). Based on the results of the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of cherry leaves has an antihyperuricemia effect in rats. Incorporating uric acid into the CHA2DS2-VASc score improves the prediction of new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients with acute myocardial infarction

BackgroundNew-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) is a common cardiac arrhythmia observed in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and is associated with worse outcomes. While uric acid has been proposed as a potential biomarker for predicting atrial fibrillation, its association with NOAF in patients with AMI and its incremental discriminative ability when added to the CHA2DS2-VASc score are not well established.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 1000 consecutive patients with AMI without a history of atrial fibrillation between January 2018 and December 2020. Continuous electrocardiographic monitoring was performed during the patients’ hospital stay to detect NOAF. We assessed the predictive ability of the different scoring models using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. In addition, we employed the area under the curve (AUC), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and net reclassification improvement (NRI) analyses to assess the incremental discriminative ability of uric acid when added to the CHA2DS2-VASc score.ResultsNinety-three patients (9.3%) developed NOAF during hospitalisation. In multivariate regression analyses, the adjusted odds ratio (OR) for NOAF was 1.439 per one standard deviation increase in uric acid level (95% confidence intervals (CI):1.182–1.753, p < 0.001). The ROC curve analysis revealed that the AUC for uric acid was 0.667 (95% CI:0.601–0.719), while the AUC for the CHA2DS2-VASc score was 0.678 (95% CI:0.623–0.734). After integrating the uric acid variable into the CHA2DS2-VASc score, the combined score yielded an improved AUC of 0.737 (95% CI:0.709–0.764, p = 0.009). Furthermore, there was a significant improvement in both IDI and NRI, indicating an incremental improvement in discriminative ability (IDI = 0.041, p < 0.001; NRI = 0.627, p < 0.001).ConclusionOur study suggests that uric acid level is an independent risk factor for the development of NOAF after AMI. Furthermore, the incorporation of uric acid into the CHA2DS2-VASc score significantly improves the discriminative ability of the score in identifying patients at high risk for NOAF.

Effect of Candesartan Usage on Uric Acid Levels

Cardiovascular disease is caused by disorders of the heart and blood vessels. One of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease is hyperuricemia, which indicates a high uric acid level in the blood, namely ≥7.0 mg / dL in men and ≥6.0 mg/ dL in women. Candersatan is one of the main line therapies that are widely used in cardiovascular patients which in previous studies were known to affect uric acid levels. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of candersatan on uric acid levels in cardiovascular patients for 3 months. This study uses a cross-sectional study with a prospective approach that is by examining uric acid levels before and after three months using candersatan and analyzed using SPSS statistical test Paired test. Of the total samples that met in the inclusion and exclusion criteria were 19 patients, the results showed an increase in uric acid levels with a significance value of 0,012 (p = ≤0.05). So it can be concluded that the average uric acid level of patients before using candersatan was 5.44 mg / dL, and the average uric acid level after using candersatan for three months was 6.30 mg / dL which means that the used of 8 mg candersatan for three months had a significant effect on the increase in uric acid levels in cardiovascular patients.

Effect of Serum Uric Acid Level on Severity of Respiratory Failure and Mortality in COVID-19 Critical Patients

Objective: Routine laboratory parameters such as C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin, ferritin, d-dimer are used to estimate the clinical severity and mortality of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Because of the limited specificity of these parameters and their variability between patients, more specific parameters are needed. It is thought that there may be a relationship between uric acid levels and the severity and mortality of COVID-19. In this study, we aimed to retrospectively investigate the relationship between daily serum uric acid measurements in the first 10 days of follow-up in the intensive care unit (ICU) and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and mortality. Methods: With the approval of the ethics committee, 151 eligible patients were screened through the ICU patient records and routine laboratory data on the computer. Serum uric acid measurements, demographic and clinical characteristics, IMV needs and mortality rates at the first admission to the hospital and in the first 10 days in the ICU were recorded retrospectively. Results: In the analysis, rate of IMV was 60.3% and mortality was 53.6%. No significant correlation was found between the uric acid levels measured at the time of first hospitalization and in the ICU follow-up and the need for IMV. In the comparison between deceased and survived patient groups; the uric acid levels were found to be higher on the 3rd and 4th days of the ICU in the deceased group than in the survivors (p=0.023, p=0.037, respectively). Conclusion: The increase in uric acid levels on the 3rd and 4th days in COVID-19 patients requiring ICU admission seems to be significant in the estimation of mortality. Serum uric acid level can be a useful parameter in determining the prognosis in the ICU follow-up of this group patients. Degenerative disease is one of the classes of diseases whose incidence is related to the degeneration process in old age whose development is directly related to time and age. This usually affects the joints, namely gout. Uric acid is the final metabolic product of purine, which is a component of nucleic acid found in the nucleus of body cells. Increased uric acid levels in the blood are not only caused by food consumed but there are several other factors, namely age, gender, body mass index, and genetics. In addition, in the elderly there is a decrease in the function of vital organs such as the liver and kidneys which can cause an increase in uric acid levels in the blood. The purpose of this study is health screening through uric acid examination. The method used was descriptive by involving 27 respondents who were willing to become subjects. The results showed that there were 10 respondents with increased uric acid examination results while 17 subjects showed normal uric acid examination results.&#x0D; &#x0D;

Uric acid and risk of pre-eclampsia: results from a large case–control study and meta-analysis of prospective studies

To quantify the association between maternal uric acid levels and pre-eclampsia risk in a large collection of primigravid women. A case–control study (1365 cases of pre-eclampsia and 1886 normotensive controls) was conducted. Pre-eclampsia was defined as blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mmHg and proteinuria ≥ 300 mg/24 h. Sub-outcome analysis included early, intermediate, and late pre-eclampsia. Multivariable analysis for pre-eclampsia and its sub-outcomes was conducted using binary and multinomial logistic regression, respectively. Additionally, a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies measuring uric acid levels < 20 weeks of gestation was performed to rule out reverse causation. There was a positive linear association between increasing uric acid levels and presence of pre-eclampsia. Adjusted odds ratio of pre-eclampsia was 1.21 (95%CI 1.11–1.33) for every one standard deviation increase in uric acid levels. No differences in the magnitude of association were observed between early and late pre-eclampsia. Three studies with uric acid measured < 20 weeks’ gestation were identified, with a pooled OR for pre-eclampsia of 1.46 (95%CI 1.22–1.75) for a top vs. bottom quartile comparison. Maternal uric acid levels are associated with risk of pre-eclampsia. Mendelian randomisation studies would be helpful to further explore the causal role of uric acid in pre-eclampsia.

Hubungan Kadar Kadmium (Cd) dalam Rambut dengan Kadar Asam Urat pada Pekerja Las di Kelurahan Banaran, Kecamatan Grogol, Kabupaten Sukoharjo

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;Welding workers are potentially exposed to cadmium containing fumes during the welding process. Cadmium is one of the heavy metals that is considered toxic. Cadmium heavy metals can interfere with the health of body organs such as the kidneys. Accumulation of cadmium in the kidneys can decrease the excretory activity of the veins. Resulting impact is an increase in uric acid levels in the body (hyperuricemia). This study aims to determine the relationship between cadmium levels in hair and uric acid levels of welding workers in Kelurahan Banaran, Kecamatan Grogol, Kabupaten Sukoharjo. Study was conducted using a purposive sampling method on 15 male welding workers. Cadmium levels in the hair were examined using FAAS. Uric acid levels in capillary blood are checked using POCT. Results of the examination of cadmium levels in 15 samples were still within the limits set by Biolab &amp;lt;0.10 ppm. Uric acid content examination results obtained 2 of the 15 samples had high uric acid levels &amp;gt;7.2 mg/dl. Data were analyzed using SPSS Pearson's Correlation Test.
