Investigation of boron waste usage in civil engineering applications

Nowadays, limited natural resources and huge consumption leads to increase in production costs and energy usage. Increasing energy consumption causes environmental damages, which yield climate change. This situation increases the interest in sustainability along with the recycling of waste material in different areas. While sustainability awareness of society is tried to be created in different countries, research and development studies are also carried out on the other hand. Studies regarding sustainability in civil engineering include recycling and reuse of various wastes. Turkey has 73% of the boron reserves, and provides 50% of boron need in the world. The boron mine can be used in a wide variety of applications such as aerospace and aircraft industries and even in disinfectant production due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, boron waste is expected to increase with the increase in production potential. The objective of this study is to introduce the potential of using boron wastes in civil engineering. Applications of boron waste in civil engineering have been researched in the literature and evaluated in detail. As a result of the study, possible boron waste assessment suggestions have been presented for Turkey.

Regional Features of Production Potential in the Conditions of Digital Transformation

Relevance. The article discusses the digital transformation of industrial production, which is the main direction for the effective development of the national economy, which is a condition for ensuring high adaptability in the formation of business models, as well as in the work of production processes through the integration of end-to-end digital technologies. The author determines that the main thing for the effective implementation of digital technologies in industry is the desire for a comprehensive increase in efficiency, as well as the creation of conditions for the efficient operation of industries. The constituent elements of a typical industrial potential of the region are given, as well as the integral rating of the regions included in the Central Black Earth Economic Region in terms of the level of industrial potential development in 2020 is calculated. The production potential of one of the regions of the Central Black Earth economic region is considered, the influence of the level of digitalization on this potential is revealed. It should be noted that the dependence of the development of production potential on the level of development of digitalization of the economy was revealed using correlations, while the main form of investor support is subsidies for reimbursement of part of the costs of paying interest on loans for projects in the investment sphere, which are provided by the administration of the subject of the region, on the basis of a competition, at the expense of budgetary funds. It is concluded that a prerequisite for the successful implementation of strategies and programs for the socioeconomic development of regions is a well-functioning mechanism for monitoring and tactical management of business processes for implementing programs, tools for assessing the effectiveness of managerial decisions.The purpose of the study is to determine the production potential of the Kursk region, as well as the impact of the level of digitalization on this potential.The objectives of the study are to determine the production potential in dynamics over a ten-year period, as well as to identify the dependence of an increase (decrease) in production potential on an increase (decrease) in the level of digitalization of the economy.Methodology. In this paper, a correlation method is used, in which different correlation and regression models are used. There are also various correlation functions, with the help of which individual elements of the production potential are determined.Results. The relationship between an increase in the level of digitalization of the economy and an increase in production potential is high and direct (one factor will increase, followed by the second factor).Conclusions. According to the level of development in the Kursk region, industrial potential occupies the last place among the regions included in the Central Chernozem Economic Region, and the region occupies the 1st place in terms of investment attractiveness, also occupies the 1st place in the share of high-tech and knowledge-intensive industries in the GRP, but the rating of industrial development is not the highest. The digitalization of the economy in the region is quite high.

Overview of Indonesian national cotton varieties (Kanesia) in supporting national textile industri

The cotton development program in Indonesia is prioritized to support the national textile industry. Program on Cotton Intensification for Smallholders (IKR) began in 1978/1979 with cotton planted area 15-22 ha and using introduced cotton varieties. The fiber quality of these introduced varieties was appropriate for the raw materials of the textile industry. However, the introduced varieties were not following the Indonesian agroecosystem, especially their resistance to the main cotton pest, namely cotton planthopper, Amrasca biguttulla Ishida. The purpose of this review is to study the development of Indonesian cotton varieties and their use as raw materials in the textile industry. The development of Indonesian cotton varieties began in 1985 oriented to the varieties with characters on high productivity and resistance to cotton planthopper. In the development of the Indonesian National Cotton (Kanesia) variety, there was an increase in production potential and fiber quality, so that it affected its use in the textile industry. From 1990 to 1998, cotton varieties Kanesia 1 - Kanesia 7 were released with high productivity character orientation, namely 350-902.4 kg fiber/ha and relatively resistant to cotton planthopper with a fiber length of 27.78-31.75 mm (fiber category: medium-long). In 2003 Kanesia 8 and Kanesia 9 were released by improving the character of production and fiber content, id., 650.8-962.2 kg fiber/ha, with fiber lengths of 29.2-30.3 mm (fiber category: medium-long). In 2007 6 new superior varieties were released, namely Kanesia 10 - Kanesia 15 with improved character production potential (586,5-1,178.8 kg fiber/ha), as well as drought-resistant characters for Kanesia 14 and Kanesia 15, fiber length 26,92-29.97 mm (fiber category: medium-long). In 2014, 5 varieties Kanesia 16 - Agri Kanesia 20 were released with improvements to the character of production potential, namely 478.4-1,616.3 kg fiber/ha, and also improvement in fiber quality for the character of strength, elasticity, and smoothness of fiber, with fiber length, 28.7-29.6 mm (medium fiber category). Kanesia 21 - Kanesia 23 were released in 2017 with improvements to the character of production potential, namely 726.1-1,420.3 kg of fiber/ha and improvement in the character of fiber elasticity. Fiber quality is the main character for determining the use of cotton fiber to be processed into yarn (yarn) and the subsequent process to become textile.

Planning Exhibition Activities of Coal Mining Enterprises

The development programs of coal mining enterprises pay special attention to the increase in production potential and the penetration of new market niches, as well as the organization of rational interaction with related industries. The creation of clusters in such conditions contributes to the sustainable development of the region. The exhibition activities of coal mining enterprises play an important role in establishing rational interaction with companies of coal and related industries, thus creating favorable conditions for the modernization of Russian coal mining and processing enterprises. The article focuses on the pre-show stage of the exhibition activity of coal mining enterprises devoted to planning and preparing for the exhibition event. The series of decisions made during the stage include setting goals of participation, choosing the exhibition event, determining the form of participation, designing the stand, planning onstand and off-stand activities, preparing information, advertising and souvenir materials, recruiting and training of the exhibition staff.

Challenges of sustainable development of villages in the Republic of Srpska

Although the modernization of villages in terms of infrastructural investment and the application of machinery and spread of technology had a significant effect on improving the quality of life and work in rural areas, however, there has not been prosperous development and sustainability of the villages in the former Yugoslavia. The village is fundamentally and structurally transformed and no longer represents the autarkic community based on traditional patterns of behavior and activity. Rural household in a market-oriented economy grew in to the farm, and the grower becomes a farmer. Within rural communities there are changes in social relationships, and physical work is not an essential factor in the sustainability of the village. The paper further analyzes how today's village can survive in the conditions of non-competitive agricultural production, insufficient or inadequate measures of economic-agrarian policy and in terms of the mass exodus of the population from rural areas. Have the historical preconditions led to the death of the villages in the former Yugoslavia? The challenges faced by today's villages mainly range from protection of domestic production and increase in production potential on the one hand, and the liberalization of markets and free trade on the other.

Bioeconomic modelling to identify the relative importance of a range of critical control points for prime lamb production systems in south-west Victoria

Whole-farm decision making is complex as many factors influence the profitability of pasture-based lamb production systems and other influences such as skills and attitudes also affect the behaviours of individual farmers. In this paper we used bioeconomic modelling to identify the relative importance of manipulating components of lamb production systems in south-west Victoria and quantified their likely impacts on whole-farm profitability. Four lamb production systems that varied in relation to the genotype of the ewes and the time of sale of the lambs were examined in the analysis. Two ‘systems’ were based on first-cross Border Leicester × Merino ewes that were mated to a terminal sire and the lambs were either sold as finished slaughter lambs at 45 kg liveweight or as stores at weaning at 30 kg liveweight. The other two ‘systems’ were based on a self-replacing composite breed (Romney × Coopworth base) and the lambs were sold as finished slaughter lambs or stores. Based on the assumptions used the analysis highlighted that the potential economic gain per unit change was high for several factors examined and the relative importance of these critical control points differed between production systems. Matching lamb turn-off (finished or store) to existing ewe genotype improved profitability by more than $100/ha or 50% and optimising pasture utilisation was also important regardless of production system. A 20% increase in pasture utilisation up to the optimum increased whole-farm profit by more than $100/ha. The impacts of improving pasture growth just after the break of season and through early winter on whole-farm profit were even greater. An extra 20 kg of pasture growth per day at this time of the year is potentially worth about $200/ha due to increases in whole-farm stocking rate. Extra pasture growth in early summer also has significant value for later lambing flocks. When farmers have optimised these factors the second-order control points were cost of replacement ewes for the first-cross system, age at first mating and reproduction efficiency in adult ewes. The management and production factors that will provide the greatest return on effort for individual farmers will depend on the potential economic gain per unit change in the target factor, their current management and production levels and the ease with which the management change or increase in production potential can be achieved in the farming system.

A social science perspective on stock enhancement outcomes: Lessons learned from inland fisheries in southern Lao PDR

Stock enhancement initiatives have become an increasingly popular intervention in inland rural fisheries development over the past two decades, with stocking being a high priority on inland fisheries development agendas in Southeast Asia. However, stock enhancement initiatives have shown that whilst releases of cultured juveniles have the potential to yield substantial benefits, the actual outcomes, in terms of yields, distribution of benefits and institutional sustainability, are often different from those initially expected. One reason for this is the complexity of the environments into which enhancements are introduced, involving dynamic interactions between the biological characteristics of the resource, the technical intervention of enhancement and, crucially, the people who use and manage it. The introduction of people as a major factor affecting outcomes distinguishes stock enhancement from aquaculture. It also makes the need for interdisciplinary and social science research increasingly evident. This paper highlights lessons learned from long-term interdisciplinary research on stock enhancement of small waterbodies in Lao PDR. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, we sought to understand when enhancement would be taken up by resource users, what factors affected the nature and distribution of enhancement benefits, and what affect resource users had on those biological outcomes that were achievable in the first instance. The responses to enhancement varied. Factors facilitating uptake included strong leadership, direct observation of benefits and an ability to adapt technology to suit requirements. When taken up, stock enhancement catalysed institutional change that affected both the nature and distribution of benefits among resource users. Who this benefited, and to what extent, was highly context specific and dependant on the wider social, political and institutional environment surrounding the enhanced fishery. Finally, interdisciplinary research demonstrated that an increase in production potential did not automatically lead to an increase in yields. Rather, it depended on the characteristics of the user community and the way they chose to manage and use the resource. Resource users were crucial in determining all the outcomes of stock enhancement. They were not only recipients, but also drivers, of enhancement technology. This has fundamental implications for how stock enhancement research and development is conducted. In particular, it requires increased participation of resource users in the research process, serious inter-disciplinary study, and the need to recognise and deal with uncertainty.
