Interface cracks with initial opening under harmonic loading

The study is devoted to the application of boundary integral equations to problems for interface cracks with initial opening under harmonic loading. As a numerical example the initially opened linear interface crack under the normally incident tension–compression wave is considered. The problem is solved taking the contact interaction of the crack’s faces into account. The convergence of the iterative algorithm is analysed and the stress intensity factors (opening and transverse shear modes) are given for the wide range of the wave number.

3-D elastodynamic contact problem for an interface crack under harmonic loading

The paper concerns 3-D fracture dynamic problems for elastic bimaterials with cracks located at the bonding interface under the time-harmonic loading. The problem for a penny-shaped interface crack under normally incident tension–compression wave is solved taking the crack’s closure into account. The dynamic stress intensity factors are computed as functions of the loading frequency and compared with those obtained neglecting the crack’s closure.

Cracks’ closure in 3-D fracture dynamics: the effect of relative location of two coplanar cracks

In this paper, the problem of two equal coplanar cracks with allowance for the crack faces contact interaction was investigated. The problem of the cracks located in homogeneous, isotropic, and linearly elastic solid subjected to normally incident tension–compression wave is solved by the boundary integral equations method. The influence of the distance between two cracks on the stress intensity factors (opening mode and transverse shear mode) is studied for a range of wave numbers. The results are compared with those obtained neglecting cracks’ closure.

2D Elastodynamics of Interface Microcracks: The Effect of Cracks Interaction

The study is devoted to a 2D problem for interface cracks under harmonic external loading. The system of boundary integral equations for displacements and tractions is derived from the dynamic Somigliana identity. The distributions of the displacements and tractions at the bonding interface and the surface of the cracks are analysed for the normally incident tension-compression wave. The dynamic stress intensity factors are also computed for different values of the frequency of the incident wave and the distance between cracks. The effect of distance between cracks on the solution of the problem is studied.

Boundary integral equations for an interface linear crack under harmonic loading

The present study is devoted to application of boundary integral equations to the problem of a linear crack located on the bimaterial interface under time-harmonic loading. Using the Somigliana dynamic identity the system of boundary integral equations for displacements and tractions at the interface is derived. For the numerical solution the collocation method with piecewise constant approximation on each linear continuous boundary elements is used. The distributions of the displacements are computed for different values of the frequency of the incident tension–compression wave. Results are compared with static ones.

Surface contact interaction of a plane elliptical crack under normally incident tension–compression wave is solved by the method of boundary integral equations. The contact forces and the displacement discontinuity of the crack edges are examined. The dependence of the mode I stress intensity factor on the wave number is studied. The solution is compared with the results obtained for an elliptical crack without allowance for crack edges contact interaction.

On one contact problem in fracture mechanics for a normally incident tension-compression wave

The contact interaction of the faces of a penny-shaped crack in a three-dimensional space is studied for the case of normal incidence of a harmonic tension–compression wave. The problem is solved by the method of boundary integral equations. The dependence of the mode I stress intensity factor on the wave number is studied. The solution is compared with the results obtained for a penny-shaped crack when the contact interaction is neglected.
