Evaluation of night eating syndrome and food addiction in esports players.

Esports players' training takes long periods and they sit for a long time during competitions, which increases their risk of obesity and urges them to develop inappropriate eating behaviors. In this study, we aimed to investigate the night-eating syndrome and food addiction in esports players. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 248 esports players who were members of a university's esports community. The study data were collected using an online questionnaire consisting of the descriptive information form, Night Eating Questionnaire, and Yale Food Addiction Scale. The mean age of the sports players participating in the study was 22.19 ± 5.97 years. Of them, 55.6% had a normal body weight, 13.4% were obese, 54.4% played esports for 3 years or more, 13.3% experienced night eating syndrome, and 21.4% experienced food addiction. While the weekly duration of playing esports and skipping meals were associated with night eating syndrome, the weekly duration of playing esports and smoking were associated with food addiction (p < 0.05). Additionally, although there was no statistically significant difference, the risk of food addiction was 2.12 times higher in those with poor perceived sleep quality. We observed that night eating syndrome was very common in esports players and that these individuals were at risk in terms of food addiction. Since esports has a more sedentary structure than traditional sports, we suggest that esports players should be evaluated in terms of their unhealthy eating behaviors and risk of eating disorders.

Eating Patterns, Physical Activities with the Event of Obesity Based on Waist-Hip Circumstances Ratio

Obesity is a chronic health problem caused by various multifactorial factors, such as genetic factors, environmental factors, inappropriate eating behavior and low physical activity. The research aims to analyze the relationship between eating patterns and free time physical activity with the incidence of obesity based on the waist-hip circumference ratio in Jakarta Lantamal III Health Service personnel. The research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 66 subjects who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to informed consent underwent anthropometric measurements and filled out questionnaires. Dietary pattern data uses the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) form, leisure time physical activity data is taken using the Godin leisure time exercise questionnaire (GLTEQ). The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. 54,5% of research subjects were obese, 63,6% of subjects had a good diet, and 56,1% of subjects rarely consumed food sources of fiber. and subjects with light leisure time physical activity category, namely 42,4%. It was found that 83,8% of research subjects who rarely consumed fiber had obese nutritional status and 96,4% of research subjects who had light free time physical activity had obese nutritional status. The results of bivariate statistical analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between the frequency of consumption of food sources of fiber and activity. physical leisure time with the incidence of obesity (p-value&lt;0,05). So, it can be concluded that low fiber consumption and reduced levels of physical activity can increase the incidence of obesity.

Association between Body Image Focused Social Media Usage (BSMU), Resilience, Attachment and Eating-related Problems among High School Students in Bangkok

Objective: This study aimed to find the association among body image focused social media usage (BSMU), resilience, attachment, and eating-related problems among Thai adolescents. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive research was conducted with a sample of 495 high school students from three schools in Bangkok. The participants answered an online questionnaire comprised of age, sex, height/weight, BSMU, Body-esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults, Eating Attitudes Test, Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment for Children, and the Thai Resilience Quotient. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze demographic information, body satisfaction, resilience, attachment, and eating-related problems. T-tests, chi-square, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to explore the associations between these variables. Results: Mean (SD) age was 17.06 (0.805), with 307 female participants (62%). Time spent on social media was found to be associated with increased risk of binging (AOR (CI) = 1.71 (1.14-2.56)). BSMU was associated with increased risk of inappropriate eating attitudes, binging, purging and using laxative (AOR (CI) = 1.14 (1.03-1.27), 1.14 (1.06-1.22), 1.20 (1.04-1.40), and 1.21 (1.09-1.34) respectively). Higher resilience was found to associated with lower risk in binging (AOR (CI) = 0.45 (0.21-0.97)). However, attachment is not associated with any of eating-related problems. Conclusion: BSMU usage was associated with inappropriate eating attitudes and behavior. Findings also suggest that higher resilience and stronger attachment were associated with lower risk of eating-related problems. The effectiveness of resilience and attachment improvement programs should be explored to help protect against eating problems.

Malnutrition among adolescents

Malnutrition among result from inappropriate eating behavior that leads to changes in body weight. Consuming excessive amounts of salt, sugar, carbonated drinks, alcohol or inactivity causes overweight or obesity. To prevent malnutrition, it is necessary to prevent nutrition and to motivate prohealth behaviors that should be targeted at a given group of society. Thanks to this, it may limit or even exclude the emergence of eating disorders, which intensify the increase in the incidence of civilization diseases. The aim of the article is an attempt to present selected elements of lifestyle. The survey was addressed to 3rd grade students from 2 public secondary schools (189 boys and 178 girls). A proprietary questionnaire entitled “My health – I care for them” was used for the study. The questionnaire included questions about the diet, forms of spending free time and participation in physical education classes at school. Watching TV is the most common form of spending free time (37% boys and 32% girls). Only 7% of girls and 18% of boys chose participation in sports as a form of spending their free time. 28% of boys and as much as 31% of girls admitted that they do not participate in physical education classes. The type of drinks consumed by students was significantly dependent on their gender. The sandwich is chosen by 31% of boys and 23% of girls. Fruit is declared by 28% of the surveyed girls and only 2% of boys. Research has shown that there are many abnormalities in the diet of adolescents. The widespread belief that a slim figure is an asset nowadays prompts many people to use many slimming diets or fasting, which when used excessively can pose a threat to the developing organism. The respondents also show insufficient physical activity. Students more and more often choose passive recreation, because physical activity does not give them as much satisfaction as playing on a computer.

Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Relation to Cardiovascular Biomarkers and Dietary Factors among Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.

The occurrence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) significantly affects the course of diabetes mellitus (DM), resulting in deterioration of insulin sensitivity and metabolic control, as well as many cardiometabolic complications. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships between cardiovascular biomarkers, nutritional status, dietary factors and the occurrence of MetS among 120 participants from northeast Poland (adolescents with type 1 DM and healthy peers). MetS was assessed using several criteria: nutritional status by anthropometric measurements, body composition analysis by bioelectrical impedance, and diet using a food diary and questionnaire. MetS was diagnosed in every third diabetic. Compared to healthy peers, MetS patients had higher total body fat (26% vs. 14%, p < 0.001) and visceral fat (77 cm2 vs. 35 cm2, p < 0.001), and lower total antioxidant status (1.249 mmol/L vs. 1.579 mmol/L, p < 0.001). Additionally, their diet was rich in saturated fatty acids, but low in dietary fiber as well as mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The group of diabetics reported many inappropriate eating behaviors. The combination of those with the presence of an excessive content of visceral fat tissue and abnormal values of MetS components may negatively affect metabolic control, thus accelerating the development of cardiometabolic complications.

Compulsão alimentar em universitários de uma cidade de médio porte do Rio Grande do Sul

Introduction: Eating disorders are common in the university environment and binge eating is associated with females, the presence of overweight and obesity, it is more common in students of Health field courses and in people who highly value the physical body. The present study aimed to evaluate the frequency of binge eating in university students in a medium-sized city in Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study with university students, adults, of both sexes, regularly enrolled in Nutrition and Literature courses / Portuguese Federal University of Pelotas. Participants were weighed and answered a self-administered questionnaire on socioeconomic conditions, eating and living habits, as well as a questionnaire containing the Periodic Eating Compulsion Scale. The data collected were analyzed using Microsoft Excel® Software and statistical analyzes were performed using the Stata® 14.0 statistical package, with a 5% significance level (p &lt;0.05). Results: The majority of the sample is female (81.7%), with a mean age of 25.4 years and with nutritional status classified as eutrophic (65.2%). As for eating habits, there was no adequacy regarding the consumption of beans, milk, fruits and vegetables. Binge eating disorder was identified in 9.6% of students, being more prevalent in the Language / Portuguese course (14.7%) and 52.2% of students reported perceiving episodes of binge eating. Conclusion: The sample studied shows inappropriate eating behavior and a significant perception of binge eating. It is suggested that the University implement the use of questionnaires to assess the presence of eating disorders in its students, enabling constant research and enabling the consolidation of a psychological and nutritional support service to students who need it.

Identifying the Profile of Orthorexic Behavior and “Normal” Eating Behavior with Cluster Analysis: A Cross-Sectional Study among Polish Adults

Although the amount of research about orthorexia nervosa (ON) has grown in the last two decades, to date, research on ON remains inconsistent. More is known about some behavioral characteristics of ON and its prevalence but nothing is known about the profile analysis behind this pathological eating behavior maintenance. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to determine the profiles of the participants in terms of eating behaviors, eating disorder psychopathology, obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms and physical activity as well as check their association with ON. The sample was composed of 229 Polish female and male adults. Our findings showed three clusters and four-related factors (obsessive-compulsive disorder features; inappropriate eating and body-related behaviors; psychological and affective traits of eating disorders; perfectionism and behaviors associated with weight maintenance or weight loss). In our sample, a higher percentage of adults belonging to cluster 1 had no ON, whereas a higher percentage of adults belonging to cluster 3 had ON. Our results emphasize the possibility to target pathological eating behaviors and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms in ON in psychological intervention.

Association of intake of vitamins and minerals with the practice of physical activity among individuals with overweight and obesity

Rationale: An inappropriate eating behavior and a decrease of physical activity (PA) contributed to metabolic inflammation leading the individuals to become overweight (OW) and obesity. The aim of this study was to verify the association of the diet quality through the vitamins and minerals and the practice of PA in individuals with overweight and obesity.

Contributions of Emotional Overload, Emotion Dysregulation, and Impulsivity to Eating Patterns in Obese Patients with Binge Eating Disorder and Seeking Bariatric Surgery.

Background: Binge eating disorder (BED) is very frequently observed in patients considered for weight loss surgery and seems to influence their outcome critically. Literature highlights a global emotional overload in individuals with BED, but little is known on the mechanisms involved. The present study aimed to focus on emotion regulation, impulsivity, depression, and anxiety in people with and without BED and fulfilling inclusion criteria for bariatric surgery. Doing so, we sought to individualize factors related to BED. Then, we examined the contribution of depression, anxiety, emotion regulation difficulties, and impulsivity to inappropriate eating behaviors observed in patients with BED. Methods: A sample of 121 individuals (79.3% female, mean age: 40.82 ± 9.26, mean current body mass index (BMI): 44.92 kg/m2 ± 7.55) seeking bariatric surgery were recruited at the Champagne Ardenne Specialized Center in Obesity in Reims, France from November 2017 to October 2018. They were stratified as with or without BED according to the binge eating scale. Characteristics identified in univariate analyses as differentiating the two groups were then included in multivariable analyses. Results: Multivariable analyses showed that limited access to emotional regulation strategies was significantly associated with BED. Furthermore, inappropriate eating behaviors were independently associated with age, depression severity, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and impulsivity in BED group. Conclusions: The present findings are indicative of an association between emotion deficit and BED in obese patients seeking bariatric surgery. Patients with BED could benefit from the addition of an emotion regulation intervention.

CONSUMO E COMPORTAMENTO ALIMENTAR DE TRABALHADORES DE UMA UNIVERSIDADE: UM ESTUDO TRANSVERSAL

Objetivo: Avaliar o consumo e o comportamento alimentar de trabalhadores. Métodos: Estudo transversal realizado com uma amostra representativa dos funcionários de universidade da cidade de Criciúma-SC. Avaliou-se, por entrevistadores treinados, a frequência de consumo de verduras/legumes, frutas, leguminosas, carnes, refrigerante, suco artificial e doces, conforme as seguintes opções de resposta: “nunca”, “quase nunca”, “1 a 2 dias”, “3 a 4 dias”, “5 a 6 dias” ou “diariamente”. O consumo regular dsses alimentos foi definido pelo consumo de, pelo menos, cinco dias na semana. Número e local das refeições, alimentar-se em frente à televisão, hábito de consumir a gordura da carne e de adicionar sal nas preparações também foram estudados. As análises foram realizadas utilizando o Stata versão 12.1. Resultados: Foram estudados 214 funcionários, metade dos quais consumia regularmente frutas, verduras e legumes. O consumo regular de doces, refrigerante e suco artificial foi referido por aproximadamente 20% dos indivíduos. Além disso, metade da amostra realizava, pelo menos, cinco refeições ao dia e tinha o hábito de comer assistindo televisão. Conclusões: Os funcionários apresentaram baixa frequência de consumo de alimentos considerados marcadores de uma alimentação saudável, como frutas, verduras, legumes e leguminosas. Ademais, grande parte deles referiu ter comportamento alimentar inadequado. Dessa forma, faz-se necessária a implementação de ações de promoção e prevenção da saúde nessa universidade voltadas à nutrição.DOI: 10.12957/demetra.2019.38102

The Relationships Between Weight Bias, Perceived Weight Stigma, Eating Behavior, and Psychological Distress Among Undergraduate Students in Hong Kong.

Weight bias issues are rarely discussed in Asian. Therefore, we examined the relationships between weight bias, perceived weight stigma (PWS), eating behavior, and psychological distress among Hong Kong people. Using cross-sectional design, 400 undergraduate students (175 men) completed questionnaires and were assigned into a self-reported overweight (n = 61) or nonoverweight group (n = 339) using body mass index, and a self-perceived overweight (n = 84) or nonoverweight group (n = 316) based on self-perception. For self-reported and self-perceived overweight groups, more weight bias was related to higher depression (β = -0.403; p = 0.004). Self-perceived group additionally showed that weight bias was related to PWS and inappropriate eating behaviors; PWS related to inappropriate eating behaviors. For self-reported and self-perceived nonoverweight groups, weight bias was related to PWS, inappropriate eating behaviors, anxiety, and depression (β = -0.228 to -0.148; p's < 0.05); PWS was associated with inappropriate eating behaviors, anxiety, and depression. Thus, weight bias issues should not be ignored for both overweight and nonoverweight people.

Comparação Social, Insatisfação Corporal e Comportamento Alimentar em Jovens Adultos

O objetivo do presente estudo foi comparar o comportamento de comparação social (CCS) de jovensadultos, segundo a insatisfação corporal (IC) e o comportamento alimentar inadequado (CAI).Participaram 563 sujeitos (276 mulheres) entre 1 8 e 35 anos de idade. Teste U de Mann-Whitney foiutilizado para comparar os CCS segundo a IC e o CAI. Foi identificada diferença para oscomportamentos de comparação social entre o grupo de sujeitos satisfeitos e insatisfeitos, e também paraos grupos com e sem comportamentos alimentares inadequados, do sexo feminino. Conclui-se que ocomportamento de comparação social está associado à insatisfação corporal e aos comportamentosalimentares inadequados de mulheres, o mesmo não ocorrendo para os homens.

Thin mother, obese child? A review of early risk factors for obesity in offspring.

The huge percentages of persons with obesity in many countries constitute a public health crisis. The severe consequences of obesity for physical health and emotional wellbeing already emerge in childhood. Therefore, the acknowledgment of early risk factors is essential to provide recommendations for prevention strategies. This review outlines the current state of research concerning early risk factors for obesity, that is, factors that even contribute to later obesity of the offspring during gestation. In this regard, this review specifically addresses the link between restricted eating behavior of the mother and obesity in her offspring. We systematically searched for articles in PsychINFO, PsychINDEX, MEDLINE, PubMed, MEDPILOT, and Web of Science, and we identified additional studies in bibliographies. Although some risk factors (e.g., short period of breastfeeding, gestational diabetes, and high maternal BMI) have a vast evidence base, others (e.g., restricted eating behavior and second-hand smoking) are insufficiently studied. Physical activity and diet programs in pregnancy can reduce not only the occurrence of gestational diabetes, but also the risk of inappropriate weight gain. As smoking during pregnancy and inappropriate eating behavior are associated with lower education, psychoeducation, for instance in sex education classes, could be easily conceivable.

Perbedaan kadar glukosa darah puasa pasien diabetes melitus berdasarkan pengetahuan gizi, sikap dan tindakan di poli penyakit dalam rumah sakit islam jakarta

Latar belakang :Perilaku makan yang tidak tepat dapat menyebabkan meningkatnya kadar glukosa darah penderita diabetes. Perilaku dibagi menjadi tiga domain yaitu pengetahuan, sikap dan tindakan. Tujuan penelitian :Melihat perbedaan kadar glukosa darah berdasarkan pengetahuan gizi, sikap dan tindakan pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2. Metode analisis : Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan crosssectional. Sampel sebanyak 50 responden, dalam penelitian ini adalah pasien diabetes melitus yang menjalani pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah di Poli Penyakit Dalam Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta. Pengetahuan gizi diukur berdasarkan indikator pengertian penyakit diabetes, prinsip dan syarat diet, penukar bahan makanan dan aktivitas atau olahraga ; tingkat sikap diukur berdasarkan indicator pemeriksaan penyakit diabetes, aktifitas/olahraga, kesadaran diet, bahan makanan dan jumlah porsi ; tingkat tindakan diukur berdasarkan indikator pemilihan makanan/minuman, kebiasaan makan, jadwal makan, aktifitas/olahraga dan bahan makanan penukar. Pengujian One Way Anova digunakan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Hasil :Sebanyak 12 responden (24%) memiliki pengetahuan gizi kurang, 14 responden (28%) memiliki sikap yang kurang baik, 8 responden (16%) memiliki tindakan kurang. Rata – rata glukosa darah berbeda menurut tingkat pengetahuan (F = 4,448 ; p = 0,017), sikap (F = 3,930 ; p = 0,026) dan tindakan (F = 3,427 ; p = 0,041). Simpulan :Ada perbedaan bermakna kadar glukosa darah berdasarkan pengetahuan gizi, sikap dan perilaku terhadap pasien dengan diabetes mellitus tipe 2 di Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta. Diperlukan penelitian tentang pengaruh konseling gizi terhadap perilaku pasien agar dapat mengetahui keberhasilan Dietisien.

Impulsivity-based thrifty eating phenotype and the protective role of n-3 PUFAs intake in adolescents.

The goal of the present study was to investigate whether intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) affects brain responses to palatable foods and whether docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that is a primary structural component of the human brain) serum levels moderate the association between IUGR and brain and behavioral responses to palatable foods. Brain responses to palatable foods were investigated using a functional magnetic resonance imaging task in which participants were shown palatable foods, neutral foods and non-food items. Serum DHA was quantified in blood samples, and birth weight ratio (BWR) was used as a proxy for IUGR. The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) was used to evaluate eating behaviors. In the contrast palatable food > neutral items, we found an activation in the right superior frontal gyrus with BWR as the most important predictor; the lower the BWR (indicative of IUGR), the greater the activation of this region involved in impulse control/decision making facing the viewing of palatable food pictures versus neutral items. At the behavioral level, a general linear model predicting external eating using the DEBQ showed a significant interaction between DHA and IUGR status; in IUGR individuals, the higher the serum DHA, the lower is external eating. In conclusion, we suggest that IUGR moderates brain responses when facing stimuli related to palatable foods, activating an area related to impulse control. Moreover, higher intake of n-3 PUFAs can protect IUGR individuals from developing inappropriate eating behaviors, the putative mechanism of protection would involve decreasing intake in response to external food cues in adolescents/young adults.

Non-traditional biomarkers of eating disorder symptoms among female college students

Background: Eating disorders (ED) are often diagnosed at an advanced stage because traditional symptoms related to unhealthy eating habits are poorly recognized. ED may be also associated with non-traditional and objective biomarkers, which could prove an important screening tool to support health care professionals in diagnosing, treating, and ultimately preventing ED. Aim: To investigate the association between non-traditional physiological ED biomarkers and symptoms of ED among female college students. Methods: This study included 113 female college students, aged 18 to 23 years, enrolled in their first semester as a Bachelor of Health Sciences undergrad at public universities in the urban zone of Recife, Brazil. Symptoms of ED were measured by self-report questionnaires. Circulating levels of IL-6, IL-10, leptin, insulin, ghrelin, PYY and adiponectin were assessed using commercial immunoassays. Results: Students with symptoms of an ED exhibited higher values of IL-6 (p = 0.03) and leptin (p < 0.001) compared to those without symptoms. A positive correlation was found between leptin levels and bulimia nervosa (r = 0.42; p = 0.00), between leptin levels and binge eating (r = 0.38; p = 0.00), and between IL-6 concentrations and binge eating (r = 0.25; p = 0.04). Multiple linear regression analysis with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating as dependent variables showed that IL-6 and leptin best explained ED symptoms, even when adjusted for body mass index (BMI). Conclusions: These findings suggest that peripheral peptides, namely leptin and IL-6, are associated with symptoms of ED in female college students. Future studies are needed to determine if there is a causal relationship between these biomarkers and the onset of ED. Relevance for patients: If future longitudinal studies demonstrate causality between the biomarkers assessed here and ED symptoms, these serum makers could be used as screening tool for inappropriate eating behavior. This may in turn improve the early diagnosis, treatment, and, ultimately, the prognosis of patients with ED.

Boredom proneness and emotion regulation predict emotional eating.

Emotional eating is considered a risk factor for eating disorders and an important contributor to obesity and its associated health problems. It has been suggested that boredom may be an important contributor to overeating, but has received relatively little attention. A sample of 552 college students was surveyed. Linear regression analyses found that proneness to boredom and difficulties in emotion regulation simultaneously predicted inappropriate eating behavior, including eating in response to boredom, other negative emotions, and external cues. The unique contributions of these variables to emotional eating were discussed. These findings help to further identify which individuals could be at risk for emotional eating and potentially for unhealthy weight gain.

Disordered eating attitudes among secondary schoolgirls in Al-Iskan sector, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Saudi Arabia

Background: A growing number of individuals are showing inappropriate eating behaviors and attitudes without having severe forms. Early and prompt recognition of mild forms can prevent the severe ones. Objective: To estimate the prevalence and associated factors of disordered eating attitudes among secondary schoolgirls in Al-Iskan sector, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study design was adopted among a representative random sample of female secondary school students in Al-Iskan sector, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Saudi Arabia. A self-administered questionnaire, the Arabic version of Eating Attitude Test–26 (EAT-26), was used. Anthropometric measurements of weight and height for students were taken. Results: The study included 180 female secondary school students. Their age ranged between 15 and 19 years with a mean of 16.83 and standard deviation of 0.94 years. Majority of them were Saudi (95.6%). Mean EAT-26 score for participants was 16.01±8.88. More than a quarter (26.1%) of adolescent girls scored 20 or above, which is the cutoff point of EAT-26, indicating negative eating attitudes. Almost two-thirds of them (61.7%) were normal weight whereas 18.9% of them were underweight. Overweight and obesity were observed among 11.7% and 7.8% of them, respectively. The highest rate of eating disorder (ED) was reported among underweight students (29.4%) whereas the lowest rate was reported among obese students (7.1%). However, the association between student’s body mass index and ED was not statistically significant (p = 0.405). EDs are more prevalent in females who believe that others are comparing them with slimmer people; media has an impact on their efforts toward slimness and world fashion and style has a role on their trial to lose weight. Conclusion: The high prevalence of disordered eating attitudes among schoolgirls in Al-Iskan sector in Makkah Al-Mukarramah is of great concern. It indicated that adolescent girls in this study had experience weight and shape concerns similar to those in Western populations.

Efeitos do estado de humor sobre os comportamentos alimentares inadequados de atletas de atletismo

O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar os efeitos do estado de humor sobre os comportamentos alimentares inadequados (CAI) em atletas. Participaram 68 atletas de atletismo, do sexo feminino, com idades entre 12 e 17 anos. Utilizaram-se o Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) e a Escala de Humor de Brunel (BRUMS) para avaliar os CAI e o distúrbio total do humor (DTH), respectivamente. Dois modelos de regressão linear não indicaram influência estatisticamente significativa da BRUMS nas subescalas Dieta (p=0,42) e Bulimia e Preocupação com Alimentos (p=0,81) do EAT-26. Ao contrário, a BRUMS (p=0,04) demonstrou impacto significante (7%) sobre os escores da subescala Autocontrole Oral. Concluiu-se que as atletas com DTH elevado podem estar mais susceptíveis à influência ambiental para a ingestão alimentar.

Are inappropriate eating behaviors and anxiety related with track and field in adolescent athletes?

OBJECTIVE: The study analyzed the relationship between anxiety and inappropriate eating behaviors in adolescent female athletes. METHODS: Eighty-eight track and field athletes aged 12 to 17 years participated in the study. We used the Eating Attitudes Test-26 subscales to assess inappropriate eating behaviors and the Brazilian State - Trait Anxiety Inventory subscales to assess State and Trait anxiety. RESULTS: State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - State (p=0.18) or State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - Trait (p=0.14) had no significant influence on the Dieting subscale score. The Bulimia and Food Preoccupation subscale score was also not influenced by State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - State (p=0.25) or State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - Trait (p=0.21). However, State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - Trait (p=0.048) had a significant impact on the Oral Control subscale score, but State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - State (p=0.19) did not explain its variance. CONCLUSION: Only State - Trait Anxiety Inventory - Trait was related to oral control and the environmental and social forces that encourage food intake in female athletes.
