Building resilience or maintaining robustness: Insights from relational view and information processing perspective

Drawing upon the relational view and information processing perspective, we investigate how supply chain integration (SCI) comprising supplier integration and customer integration influence supply chain risk management (SCRM) practices embracing supply chain (SC) resilience and supply chain (SC) robustness, and subsequently influence supply chain (SC) performance. We further examine how big data analytics (BDA)-enabled agility moderates the impacts of SCI on SC resilience and SC robustness. Based on data collected from 121 match-paired surveys of manufacturing firms in China, we find that supplier integration positively impacts SC resilience, whereas customer integration positively impacts on SC robustness. BDA-enabled agility complements supplier integration while substitutes customer integration to improve SC resilience and SC robustness. Besides, our results reveal that SC resilience and SC robustness both improve SC performance, and SC robustness mediates the relationship between SC resilience and SC performance.

Improved Association Rule Mining-based Data Sanitisation with Blockchain for Secured Supply Chain Management

A supply chain management (SCM) method must include information sharing as a vital component in order to improve supply chain performance and boost an organisation’s strategic advantage. Since, due to a lack of trust concern over information leakage, and security breaches by nefarious individuals or groups, several organisations are hesitant to share information with their supply chain partners. This work presents a new supply chain management-based secure data transmission method. By using blockchain-based data storage, it is assumed that the manufacturers, suppliers, and customers would transfer data that must be kept private during transmission. As a consequence, this paper aims to provide an improved association rule mining with a data sanitisation scheme with an improved Apriori algorithm used in the proposed data sanitisation process. In particular, the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) will generate keys by considering the objective relying on the value of the preservation ratio, false rule generation, hiding failure, and degree of modification. The weights are adjusted via a novel Minkowski distance-based Namib beetle optimisation (MDNBO) technique, which also improves the performance of the LSTM model. The reverse process of encryption occurs when encrypted data are restored at the receiving end. By contrasting it with the old methods with regard to security as well, the proposed protected data in SCM with blockchain technology will be proved to be efficient.

Blockchain in the Supply Chain: Systematic Review of the Literature for a Performance Improvement Proposal Based on a Conceptual Framework

Blockchain offers innovative solutions with information flow that improves the supply chain. This research aimed to present an overview of how blockchain technology can improve supply chain performance with a focus on visibility, reliability, security, analysis, and risk management. A systematic literature review was carried out and the selection of 72 articles that met the inclusion criteria was made in the Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore with the use of the keywords “blockchain” and “supply chain performance,” in the time frame from 2017 to 2022. Studies show that there is a gap in the investigation of this theme, so it is critical to build a conceptual framework for blockchain adoption in the supply chain. It is concluded that visibility, reliability, security, and risk management can improve the supply chain with blockchain deployment in conjunction with other digital technologies.

How to Complete Supply Chain Integration and Improve Supply Chain Performance Through Relationship Governance in the Digital Age

In the process of manufacturing supply chain development, because appropriate governance mechanisms are lacking, manufacturing supply chain stability, integration and other aspects face many challenges. Such as opportunism, “free riding” and data leakage affect supply chain development. Thus, many manufacturing firms are adopting supply chain relationship governance (SCRG) as a strategic to enhance performance. Using data collected from a survey of 295 manufacturing firms, this paper confirms the influence of SCRG on supply chain performance (SCP). The mediating effect of supply chain integration (SCI) and the moderating effect of digital capabilities (DCs) are explored. The results show that SCRG has a beneficial effect on SCP. SCI plays a partial mediating role in SCRG and SCP. DCs positively moderate the relationship between SCRG and SCI. This study is one of the first to explore the role of DCs in the relationship between supply chain partners and the impact on performance. It provides fresh perspectives and real-world evidence for determining the importance of SCRG strategies.

Effect of Warehousing Management on Supply Chain Performance: A Case of Inyange Industries Ltd

In local and globalized markets, warehouses are crucial supply chain nodes. This study aimed to investigate the effect of warehousing on supply chain performance: A case of Inyange Industries Ltd. The goals were to evaluate how inventory management, warehouse capacity building, and material handling affects supply chain performance in Inyange Industries Ltd. This research experimented with three different theories: Just-in-time, Lean, and Triple-A supply chain. The population of this study were 105 staff members of Inyange Industries Ltd. Therefore, census was conducted because the population size is affordable and the researcher can be able to contact all the respondents. Quantitative data were analyzed using inferential research methodology in this study. Questionnaires were used to gather primary data, which was then analyzed. Data analysis was carried out using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to show the study's results. According to the research, supply chain performance is positively and significantly affected by both automated and manual material handling. Mechanical material handling, on the other hand, improves supply chain performance, but not much. Inyange Industries' supply chain performance is influenced by the material handling systems to the tune of 19.3%, as shown by the modified R2 value of 0.193. According to the research, supply chain performance is positively and significantly affected by inventory counts, warehouse management systems, and inventory organization. A 0.967 adjusted R^2 value suggests that 96.7% of the variation in Inyange Industries' supply chain performance is explained by the inventory management techniques. According to the research, supply chain effectiveness is positively and significantly impacted by warehouse demand planning, design, and management. Warehouse capacity planning techniques at Inyange Industries account for 95.4% of the variation in supply chain performance, as shown by the modified R2 value of 0.954. The research concluded that material handling, inventory management, and warehouse capacity planning are all important warehouse management measures that significantly impact supply chain performance for the better. The methods used by Inyange Industries Ltd. for managing their warehouses have resulted in an improvement in supply chain performance of 87.2%. The regression coefficients, supported by their t-test values and Beta coefficients, highlight both the significance and strength of relationships between independent and dependent variables. Material Handling demonstrated the greatest impact (β1=0.532, t=8.556, p=0.000), followed by Inventory Management (β2=0.379, t=6.147, p=0.000), and Warehouse Capacity Planning (β3=0.172, t=3.268, p=0.002), emphasizing their respective contributions to Supply Chain Performance of Inyange Industries Ltd.'s supply chain. This proved that material handling in warehouse management has a major influence on supply chain performance. Because the p-value was lower than 5%, we may say that the association is statistically significant. The research concluded that both automated and human material handling should get additional funding. To maximize efficiency in stock-taking as well. Previous studies have looked at a variety of organizational factors that affect performance of supply chains. To further understand how warehouse management strategies affect overall performance, more research is needed.

Stage-wise green supply chain management and environmental performance: Impact of blockchain technology

In the era of globalisation, the use of technology and concerns for sustainability is eminent in the supply chain management practices. The current study focuses on sustainable and green supply practices in different stages of supply chain management and how they can be facilitated by blockchain technology (BT). The study has addressed the existing gaps in the area namely, the lack of research assessing stage-wise green supply chain for environmental performance focusing on BT. The current study aims to assess the impact of BT on different stages of the green supply chain and a firm's environmental performance. The study also focuses on analyzing the impact of green supply chain stages on environmental performance. The study uses PLS-based structural equation modelling approach to investigate the hypothesised relationships between BT adoption and stage-wise green supply chain practices. The data was collected from individuals from medium-sized enterprises from the manufacturing industry in India. The findings reveal a positive association between blockchain adoption and green supply chain management practices leading to enhancement in environmental performance. Furthermore, the study indicates a positive relationship between blockchain integration and different stages of the green supply chain, underscoring its multi-faceted impact on environmental performance. The findings imply that the BT adoption can facilitate the realization of sustainable supply chain practices and performance improvement.

How Does Digital Transformation Improve Supply Chain Performance: A Manufacturer’s Perspective

A prominent research area pertains to the integration of digital technologies in corporate frameworks and their strategic utilization. In particular, as both intercompany dependencies in business activities and environmental uncertainty increase, digital transformation has become an important means of managing transaction relationships not only within but also between companies. The purpose of this study is to explicate the process of how digital transformation technology used among supply chain members can improve corporate performance and to identify the influencing variables for making good use of it. The findings have implications that can help companies invest time and money in digital innovation to achieve effective corporate performance. This research model analyzed data from 222 domestic manufacturing companies through structural equation model analysis. We found that the more developed the corporate culture and the higher the trust with partner companies, the more active the companies are in utilizing digital transformation. In addition, while digital transformation has a direct impact on corporate performance, we also confirmed the mediating effect of information sharing between companies, which can have a greater positive impact on corporate performance as its level increases. A notable result is that digital transformation significantly improves information sharing in low-trust corporate relationships. These results suggest that digital, non-face-to-face technologies can complement and strengthen relationships that have traditionally been formed through interpersonal relationships. This study compensates for the shortcomings of previous studies that verify the fragmentary achievements of digital transformation. It also has theoretical significance in that it hypothesizes and demonstrates the entire process of how digital transformation is activated in what type of environment and leads to corporate performance. In addition, although companies with a strong relationship of trust may find it easy to invest in innovation, there are practical implications that even new companies that do not have a relationship of trust should consider active use of digital transformation when conducting important transactions.

Risk assessment in sustainable food supply chains: A holistic approach by using HOR-SWOT-ANP/AHP to ensuring performance improvement

The global food supply chain plays an essential role in economic development while addressing environmental and social issues in its business system. However, this complex network is exposed to various risk factors related to sustainability that can disrupt the supply chain performance. CV. XYZ is a food manufacturer that produces jackfruit chips in Indonesia. During the supply chain process, this company needs to manage the various risks across the supplier, manufacturer, and retailer stages. By identifying and evaluating risks at each stage, mitigation and improvement strategies can be proposed. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the supply chain risk mitigation and performance improvement strategies for maintaining supply chain stability and performance. House of Risk (HOR) was applied to analyze the mitigation strategies, while SWOT with analytical networking process (ANP) or analytical hierarchy process (AHP)/ (i.e., SWOT-ANP/AHP method)was used for analyzing performance improvement strategies by considering the weight of each factor. The result shows that twelve mitigation strategies are needed to mitigate the fourteen risk agents that focus on improving production activities and human resources. Moreover, eleven strategies have been proposed to improve sustainable supply chain performance in the future, focusing more on marketing activities and enhancing human resource capabilities.

Enhancing Customer–Supplier Coordination Through Customer-Managed Inventory

In recent years, there has been an increasing trend in supply chains to employ a “control tower” approach to improve supply chain performance. One such strategy is customer-managed inventory (CMI) in which the customer (the downstream party) controls the inventory of the supplier (the upstream party). However, the optimal design of the inventory control policy and the required incentive structure for CMI has not been fully explored in the related literature. In this paper, we develop a two-echelon model consisting of a supplier and a customer that captures the interaction between both decision makers. Analysis of this model indicates that achieving the potential benefits of CMI requires suitable incentive mechanisms to be put in place. The two-echelon inventory system model, however, does not give closed-form solutions, which are required to generate an optimal solution to the inventory control and incentive problem. To address this challenge, we propose an approximate model, which decouples the two-echelon model into two newsvendor-type models with each party operating a single-echelon system. This approximate model requires the introduction of additional cost parameters so that the decoupled model captures the cost implications of supplier shortages in the original two-echelon model. By developing appropriate values for these cost parameters, the approximate model yields near optimal results. Analysis of the solution reveals important operational factors that determine which environments are conducive for CMI and conditions for Pareto improvement of all stakeholders. Determinants of Supply Chain Performance in the Energy Sector in Kenya: A Case Study of the Kenya Power.

The current supply chain management in Kenya energy sector is deficient of an acceptable SCM performance level due to the inability to connect every willing buyer, and the cost of rural electrification by grid development due to dispersion as is expected in the service charter. The general objective of the study was to establish the determinants of supply chain performance in the energy sector in Kenya with an inclination to KPLC. The specific objectives of the study were to; determine the effect of information communication technology on supply chain performance of KPLC; examine the effect of buyer-supplier relationship on supply chain performance of KPLC; determine the effect of procurement professionalism on supply chain performance of KPLC and establish the effect of contract management on performance of KPLC. The study employed a descriptive research design. The researcher used stratified random sampling technique. The study population was 698 employees working in KPLC from which 254 respondents were selected. Questionnaires were used as the main data collection instrument and a pilot study was undertaken to pretest the questionnaires for validity and reliability. For the purpose of analyzing the data that was gathered, and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version 24 was utilized in analysis. In order to establish the statistical link between the independent factors and the predicted variable, the study made utilization of the regression model. Descriptive statistics were computed whereby frequencies, percentages and means were clearly shown in the form of both tables and figures. The study revealed that a unit increase in the elements of information communication technology, procurement professionalism, buyer-supplier relationship and contract management will translate to improvement of supply chain performance in KPLC. the study recommends that KPLC and other firms in the energy sector should exploit the aforementioned determinants in a hierarchical order. This would enable KPLC and other firms in the energy sector to focus on the determinants with the most positive significant effect on supply chain performance and prioritize resources allocation and deployment appropriately. The study recommends this order, buyer-supplier relationships, followed by contract management while information communication technology and procurement professionalism should be exploited concurrently.

Blockchains for SMEs: A Fit-Viability perspective moderated by organizational innovation diffusion for supply chain performance

This paper empirically examines the suitability of blockchain for improving supply chain performance in small-medium enterprises through the theoretical lens of the fit-viability model against the impact of organisation innovation diffusion level Data gathered from 206 respondents are analysed using partial least square-structured equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and artificial neural network (ANN). The findings of this study show empirically that enhanced supply chain connectivity, information sharing, and supply chain visibility are fit for enhancing supply chain performance. Economics, management support, and technology infrastructure are important for blockchain viability. Further, an organisation’s innovation diffusion level affects the fitness of blockchain for supply chain performance but not viability. The transformational effects of blockchain are mainly centred on its security and trust-enhancing features. However, its deployment continues to be marred by technical complexities and often, scenarios that seem opportune may be a poor fit. This study is among the few that consider the impact of blockchain on supply chain performance through a fit-viability lens against the effect of organisation innovation diffusion level.

Modeling enablers of agile and sustainable sourcing networks in a supply chain: A case of the plastic industry

To compete in emerging markets, a supply chain must perform well. Agile and sustainable sourcing practices can improve supply chain performance; however, their impact needs an optimal evaluation. Although few research studies offer frameworks for integrating agile and sustainable principles, none offer links to implementing these practices in the sourcing networks of a supply chain. The present study seeks to bridge these gaps by developing a framework that identifies and configures the enabling elements for creating agile and sustainable sourcing networks. This study aims to provide an implementable causal model that the plastic industry's supply chain could adopt. In the first phase of the research process, fifteen enablers are identified through literature and validated by Delphi experts. In the second phase, interpretive structural modeling is applied to establish the hierarchical relationships among these enablers and categorize them based on their functionalities. The model is demonstrated based on the real-life case study of a firm manufacturing plastic pipes and fittings. The proposed model identifies the strategic, operational, and performance level enablers and intends to help the managers incorporate the agile and sustainable criteria in their sourcing practices. The findings of this study provide several contributions to the literature and implications for the plastic industry.

The relationship of inspirational leadership and green supply chain management to reinforce the performance of SMEs

The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between inspirational leadership and performance and the relationship between green supply chain management and performance improvement. This research method is quantitative. Research data was obtained by distributing online questionnaires via social media, the questionnaire was designed using statement items with a Likert scale of 1 to 7. The respondents for this research were 678 SMEs owners in Indonesia who were determined using the simple random sampling method. The data analysis technique for this research uses partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis with SmartPLS 3.0 software data processing tools. The stages of research analysis are validity testing, reliability testing and hypothesis testing (significance). The results of the research show that inspirational leadership has a positive and significant effect on performance. With the existence of inspirational leadership on HR performance it will have a positive effect if employees get trust and good examples from leaders, and employees get inspiration and motivation so they can create new innovations that make the company more advanced. Green supply chain management has a positive and significant effect on improving performance. The concept in green supply chain management provides the possibility for organizations to improve process efficiency, waste recycling management, the ability to attract new suppliers and consumers, organizations can save costs, reduce delivery times through collaboration with suppliers and consumers which can ultimately improve operational performance.

Improving Supply Chain Sustainability and Resilience via anyLogistix: Research Trends and Future Challenges

Supply chain management faces difficult challenges today, given the rapidly evolving global business landscape. The need for resilient supply chains capable of anticipating, adapting to, and recovering from disruptions has become paramount. At the same time, it has become increasingly important to help systems achieve sufficient levels of economic, environmental and social sustainability in order to remain competitive. Within this challenging scenario, any Logistix is emerging as a tool capable of supporting supply chain managers through the power of optimization and simulation. In this paper, an analysis of the existing scientific literature is conducted on the use of any Logistix to improve supply chain performance within case studies. The analysis of research trends shows that it is a valid tool for improving supply chain sustainability and resilience. Furthermore, crucial challenges are detected such as better exploiting the Digital Supply Chain Twin paradigm, improving the integration of any Logistix with other tools, pushing collaboration between supply chain actors, towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

A COVID replication and extension of firms’ resilience to supply chain disruptions

PurposeThe purpose is to replicate and extend Ambulkar et al.’s (2015) work testing resource reconfiguration as a mediator of the supply chain disruption/firm resilience relationship and testing risk management infrastructure as a moderator. This study extends the work of Ambulkar in that it uses analysis of survey data gathered from manufacturing firms during an actual disruption event (COVID-19). The previous work is also in extended in that the authors include a pandemic disruption impact variable and supply chain performance is an expanded model.Design/methodology/approachPartial least squares structural equation modeling techniques were used to analyze data gathered from 184 US manufacturing managers during the height (Summer 2021) of the COVID-19 pandemic.FindingsTwo of four of Ambulkars et al.’s (2015) hypotheses were confirmed as relevant to firm resilience during the pandemic while two were not confirmed. Results also show that supply chain disruption orientation, risk management infrastructure and resource reconfiguration combine to improve firm resilience, which in turn improves supply chain performance while mitigating the disruption impact of COVID-19.Originality/valuePrevious work is replicated and extended, using data from an actual disruption event (COVID-19). This study presents a more comprehensive model using a newly developed and validated scale to measure pandemic impact and including supply chain performance.

A SCOR-based Performance Measurement of Indonesia’s Kayumas Specialty Coffe Supply Chain

Performance evaluation is essential in defining supply chain strategies because by taking measurements, companies can find out how the business processes in the supply chain are running and formulate strategic policies to improve supply chain performance. Specialty coffee is a premium coffee with a unique aroma and flavour originating from a specific region, and it is easy to trace its origin from the farm to the consumer. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the Kayumas specialty coffee supply chain using the SCOR-ANP method and determine performance improvement strategies using ANP analysis. The research results can be concluded that (1) Kayumas specialty coffee supply chain consists of farmers, farmer groups, distributors/resellers, and consumers. (2) The performance position of Kayumas specialty coffee is inferior (3) The performance improvement strategy needed to improve product quality is a partnership between supply chain members to reach a price agreement.

Supply Chain Innovation in the Catering Industry: An Assessment of the Cost-Effectiveness and Sustainability of the Central Kitchen Model

With the trend of mechanization in the catering industry, the demand for scale, industrialization and standardization of the catering supply chain has increased. As an emerging catering supply chain model, the central kitchen has great potential to meet the demand for mechanization. Central kitchens are an effective way to solve the catering industry's problems in scaling up operations. However, in practice, many issues still need to be researched and explored in the central kitchen based on the enterprise perspective in the context of the Chinese catering industry. This paper collects and analyzes data from Chinas restaurant industry and Shuhais business data to determine whether central kitchens positively impact supply chain management and performance improvement in the context of Chinas restaurant industry. It is found that the central kitchen model effectively reduces supply chain costs, ensures product quality and improves supply chain synergy and integration, which is a theoretical guide and practical revelation for the supply chain decision-making of catering enterprises and the model design of supply chain service enterprises.

Unveiling the Impact of Digitalization on Supply Chain Performance in the Post-COVID-19 Era: The Mediating Role of Supply Chain Integration and Efficiency

In the context of the rapidly evolving landscape shaped by the increased prevalence of digital technologies and the transformative dynamics of supply chains in the post-COVID-19 era, this research seeks to address a crucial gap by examining the mediating role played by supply chain integration and efficiency. The primary aim is to provide a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of how digitalization influences networks of supply chain performance. Moreover, we delve into the moderating impact of supply chain dynamism on shaping this association. Through a simple random sampling technique, survey data were collected from 293 Turkish manufacturing firms via an online survey and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings underscore that digitalization significantly enhances supply chain integration and efficiency, thereby contributing to improved supply chain performance. Notably, supply chain integration and efficiency were identified as key mediators in the relationship between digitalization and supply chain performance. Furthermore, we investigate the moderating effect of supply chain dynamism, revealing its positive influence on the association between digitalization and supply chain integration. Rooted in key theories such as the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities, this study provides valuable insights by unraveling the intricate processes through which digitalization’s impact is channeled in the post-COVID-19 era. The research extends the current literature by considering the contextual role of supply chain dynamism, shedding light on the complex dynamics between digitalization and supply chain outcomes.

Streamlining Operations: The Impact of Effective Supplier-Manufacturer Relationships

Supply Chain Management (SCM) plays a crucial role for firms striving to maintain competitiveness amidst numerous competitors. In the contemporary business landscape, firms enhance their competitiveness by efficiently relying on their supply chain Moreover, an effective and efficient supply chain has become a vital and valuable means for staying vigilant in the evolving and competitive global business environment, contributing to overall organizational performance improvement. The term "supplier-manufacturer partnership" refers to the relationship established when a manufacturer and supplier mutually agree to collaborate based on a specific contract. This research study is quantitative in nature with population in the vicinity of Rawalpindi & Islamabad working either as manufacturer of goods or are providing the services or in the service business. Simple random sampling technique has been utilized in cross-sectional time horizon. SPSS version 22.0 was used as statistical software to carry out the analysis. The findings suggest that a stronger partnership correlates with improved supply chain performance. Furthermore, the statistical tests conducted in this research underscored the significance of business value addition, communication and trust as the most influential factors contributing to enhanced supply chain performance and overall profitability. The study also unveiled that the partnership strongly affects information flow. Moreover, when information is effectively managed, and its quality is enhanced, it fosters strong partner relations, ultimately leading to improved supply chain effectiveness and heightened performance.
