Transport infrastructure, CO2 emissions, mortality, and life expectancy in the Global South

This study examines the interplay between transport infrastructure, CO2 emissions, and health outcomes. The study focuses on economies in the Global South from 2006 to 2016 periods. To achieve the study's aims, CO2-induced health outcomes are generated, and the effects of transport infrastructure on CO2-induced life expectancy and mortality are assessed. The instrumental variable and system GMM estimates suggest that the quality of transport infrastructure in these economies has not improved the reduced life expectancy induced by CO2 emissions. A similar conclusion follows when mortality is analysed, such that transport infrastructural quality in these economies worsens the death rate caused by CO2 emissions. Further improvement in infrastructural facilities and a reduction in CO2 emissions will be necessary for achieving a good health outcome.

The Effectiveness of INTAKO's Small and Medium Industry Revitalization Program in Sidoarjo Regency

This study aims to analyze and describe the effectiveness of the INTAKO Small and Medium Industry revitalization program in Kedensari Village, Tanggulangin District. The research method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Informants are determined by purposive sampling, including the Head of Industry and Industrial Extension Staff, INTAKO Supervisors and Staff, as well as Small and Medium Industry Actors and INTAKO Visitors. Data analysis comes from Miles and Huberman data, namely through data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate the effectiveness of the INTAKO Small and Medium Industry revitalization program in Kedensari Village, Tanggulangin District seen from three indicators, namely the achievement of goals seen from the period of completion of the program in line with the legal basis, namely the Regulation of the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Number 09/M-IND/PER/2/ 2016 concerning Technical Guidelines for the Use of Special Allocation Funds for the Development of Industrial Facilities for the 2016 Fiscal Year, however, it is necessary to realize the program in accordance with the action plans that have been made previously. The target of the revitalization program is Tanggulangin integrated tourism or 3 in 1 tourism. Integration is seen from the communication ability of the program seen with the Industry and Trade Office of Sidoarjo Regency socializing the program in 2017 and the ability to understand the program is seen from the people who understand the program by maintaining the existing infrastructure facilities. revitalized. Adaptation is done by increasing human resources through workshops and online sales training and the need for online marketing training. Then the adaptation of infrastructure is seen from the improvement of infrastructure facilities in the revitalization program but the need to improve infrastructure specifically in the INTAKO Cooperative showroom in Kedensari Village.

IMPACT OF EXTERNAL DEBT ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA

Following the rising spate of the debt profile of Nigeria and the fluctuating trend in her macroeconomic indicators, this study critically examined the impact of external debt on economic growth in Nigeria in the period, 1985 to 2019 by examining the causality between external debt stock and economic growth in Nigeria and identify the impact of external debt servicing on economic growth in Nigeria. The study employed the Harrod-Domar theory of economic growth and the Two-Gap model as theoretical framework to explain the impact of external debt on economic growth in Nigeria. The study made use of secondary data sourced from World Development Indicator 2019. Ordinary least square (OLS) technique was adopted for the regression analysis. The data were analyzed with the aid of e-view software (9th edition). The result showed that external debt has negative and insignificant impact on economic growth in Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommended the use of tax revenue to finance public deficit, encouragement of foreign direct investment and domestic investment through improvement in infrastructural facilities and an enabling environment devoid of political and economic instability.

Determinants and Sustainability of Manufacturing Sector Performance in Nigeria: The Roles of Selected Macroeconomic Variables

Manufacturing sector is a vibrant sector that spurs growth in every other sector of the economy. Despite this, macroeconomic environment in the country has not made this desire materialized. Therefore, the study examined the determinants and sustainability of manufacturing sector performance in Nigeria from 1994-2019. The data used include manufacturing sector output, interest rate, real exchange rate, tax rate, money supply and trade openness. Also, Error Correction Model (ECM) and Pairwise Granger Causality(PGC) techniques were used for the formulated objective. The unit root test confirmed stationarity of interest rate at level; while other were integrated of order one (D = 1). The Johansen co-integration established a long-run relationships. The ECM corrected the disequilibrium at an annual rate of 77.5%. Also, real exchange rate, tax rate and trade openness had a direct and significant effect on manufacturing sector output. While, interest rate and money supply were non-significance. The PGC result revealed a bi-directional causality between real exchange rate and manufacturing sector and tax rate and manufacturing sector output. It was concluded that increase in consumption tax, real exchange rate and liberation of the economy were the determinants of manufacturing sector performance, while appreciation of nigeria’s currency (naira) and increase in tax rate with proportional improvement in infrastructural facilities are needed to sustain it. Therefore, recommended that the financial institutions especially the apex bank should eliminate different bench-mark of exchange rate policy by allowing the market force of demand and supply to depict the real value of naira.

Evaluasi Program Pengurangan Resiko Bencana Terpadu Berbasis Masyarakat

This study evaluated the Program of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at SMP Negeri 1 Selo. This type of research was evaluative research with CIPP model which conducted based on Context, Input, Process and Product in the implementation of DRR Program. Data collection techniques were done using interviews, observation, and document study. Data analysis in this study included data collection, data reduction, data display and verification. This study used triangulation to validate the datas. The results showed: (1) in the Context of evaluation, the DRR Education Program at SMP Negeri 1 Selo is categorized as good, because it is in accordance with the needs of the school. The school is not only getting support from outside parties, but also having clear goals, backgrounds, and requirements for organizing. (2) In evaluating Input, this program answers the needs of school. The number of human resources involved and competent is sufficient. Facilities and infrastructure as well as funds are also adequate. The mechanism that the school has is clear and detailed. Program input is considered good. (3) In the Process, most activities (3-5 activities) can be carried out well. Human resources are fulfilled and functioning. Funding is available but inefficient and there is a lack of infrastructure. In general, the implementation has followed the mechanism. The DRR process at SMP Negeri 1 Selo is considered reasonable, (4) In the Product, most of the activities in DRR Program were achieved, the knowledge and the skills of school members were significantly improved but the attitude/concern of school members to disasters had not increased significantly and it had a considerable impact. Thus, the products were considered fair. Based on the results of the research, sustainability policy can be taken. The program should be continued with improvements of mechanism especially in the form of scheduling and plan of program sustainability and improvement of infrastructure facilities.

Tourism Destination Development Strategy Central Aceh

This paper discusses the Tourism Destination Development Strategy. In improving the tourism sector in an area, at least one has to develop the 3A concept (Attractions, Accessibility, and Amenities). The tourism sector is a mainstay for Central Aceh to be developed as a tourism destination because Central Aceh has attractions that can be developed into tourist attractions. The method used in this study using the Analytic Network Process (ANP) approach with the help of Super Decision software, by performing a synthesis analysis of problems, solutions, and strategies. The results of the respondents' answers indicated that the priority problems were infrastructure, attractiveness, and promotion problems. Meanwhile, the most priority solutions are solutions to improve infrastructure, namely transportation and travel, attraction, and promotion. And the most prioritized strategy is the improvement of infrastructure facilities and synergy.

The Principal's Business In Improving the Quality of Islamic Education (Case Study at SDIT AZ Jambi City)

Efforts of Principals in Improving the Quality of Islamic Education at SDIT AZ Jambi. The background of this study is that Islamic educational institutions, especially schools, still experience obstacles in improving the quality of education. This can be seen from various aspects ranging from curriculum objectives, educational personnel, learning methodologies, infrastructure facilities, and evaluation, as a whole still contains problems that until now have not been completely solved. Therefore, in improving the quality of Islamic education in schools, strong leadership from the principal is needed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate: 1) the efforts of principals in improving teacher professionalism, 2) the efforts of principals in improving the quality of educational infrastructure, 3) the efforts of principals in improving the quality of learning processes, and 4) the efforts of principals in improving student achievement at SDIT AZ Jambi. This research uses descriptive- qualitative methods and approaches by using three research instruments, namely interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results show that: 1) SDIT AZ Jambi has experienced a good improvement in quality. Under the leadership of a reliable principal, SDIT AZ Jambi can now become one of the Islamic educational institutions that are at the forefront and able to produce high -performing outputs. 2) The efforts of principals in improving the quality of education, namely: a) improving the professionalism of teachers by creating rules for teachers, placing teachers according to their abilities, giving trust and motivation, conducting coaching. b) improve the quality of infrastructure facilities through the improvement of infrastructure facilities, cooperate with other institutions/agencies in the procurement of infrastructure facilities. c) improve the quality of the learning process by developing an Islamic educational model, improving learning methods, managing the quality of the curriculum. d) improve student achievement by holding consolidation activities, additional lessons, cooperation with learning guidance institutions, guiding teachers to create effective learning, creating a disciplined school culture, providing various extracurriculars, sending students in various competitions.

STRATEGI MENINGKATKAN MUTU PENDIDIKAN DI MADRASAH ALIYAH HASAN JUFRI

The writing of this article is motivated by the demands of a quality educational institution that can create quality human resources. Madrasah Aliyah Hasan Jufri, the only Madrassa Aliyah with the largest number of learners in Bawean Island is required for its role to realize that expectation. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach. Data is taken through observation, interview and documentation. Respondents consisted of madrasah head, deputy head of madrasah, head of administration, head of library and some teachers. The result of the research shows that the strategy to improve the quality of education in Madrasah Aliyah Hasan Jufri is to improve the quality of teachers, increase academic and non academic achievement, increase the achievement of National Examination score and the achievement of School Exam as well as the improvement of infrastructure facilities. Supporting factors in improving the quality of education are qualified teachers of education S1 and some S2 in accordance with subjects that diampu, madrasah have education programs and clear division of tasks, infrastructure, climate and a conducive environment and great support from Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Hasan Jufri. Inhibiting factors are still low student learning motivation, employee resource has not maximal, low level of teacher discipline and fund availability still less. Efforts made in improving the quality of education are intensifying guidance and counseling activities, creating an exciting learning atmosphere, rewarding outstanding students, involving relevant staff in training activities, and applying an electrical attendance system for teachers and employees.

Effect of firm ownership on productivity: empirical evidence from the Indian mining industry

This paper empirically examines the difference in productivity existing between the public and private sector of the mining industry in India. The literature on the effect of firm ownership on productive efficiency stands highly divided; hence, in this context, our study adds to the literature by attempting to study the effect of firm ownership on total factor productivity (TFP) in the four sectors of the Indian mining industry from 2000 to 2016. Here, we have sought to compare the productivity difference between the public and private mining firms in the four sectors, namely metallic, non-metallic, coal and petroleum. This paper uses the Levinson and Petrin (LP) method for estimating the TFP of each firm. The results indicate the superiority of private firms in three sectors—metallic, non-metallic, and coal—whereas the petroleum sector reports quite the opposite result. The results raise questions about the stability of the public sector firms over time. Overall, the paper suggests measures like provision of incentives, improvement in infrastructural facilities, upgradation of manpower and so on to improve the productivity performance of public sector firms.

Socioeconomic and profitability analysis of catfish production: a case study of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria

This study examined the economics of catfish production in Nigeria using Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria as a case study. To achieve the study objectives, 40 catfish producers were randomly sampled and data for the study were collected with the aid of questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and net farm income analysis were employed for the analysis of the data collected. The study findings show that most (85%) of the catfish farmers were males, and majority of them are in their active ages (<35 to 55 years). About 20% of the total population sampled was involved in full time catfish farming and 80% were able to finance their catfish farm from personal savings. Majority of the respondents have rich experience in catfish farming and have attained some level of education which is expected to influence their output positively. The total cost of catfish production was estimated to be ₦584,968.041 ($1,614.73) per production cycle (average 7 months), and the total revenue generated from the sale of market size catfish in the study area was ₦2,257,098 ($6,226.48) per production cycle. The respondents made a net farm income of ₦1,672,129.96 ($4,615.70) in one production cycle (average 7 months). This indicates that catfish production is profitable in the area. To enhance the performance of catfish production, the study recommends improvement in infrastructural facilities that will create an enabling environment for increased productivity and profitability.Keywords: catfish; production; profitability, socio-economic factors

PELAKSANAAN PENGAWASAN OLEH KPPBC TMP C SABANG TERHADAP LALU LINTAS BARANG DARI PELABUHAN BEBAS SABANG

Sabang area has become a separate area of customs area so free from imposition of import duties, value added tax, sales tax on luxury goods and excise duty. To that end, the Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai (DJBC) shall supervise the importation and release of goods to and from and located in Sabang area. In the period from March 2013 to October 2017 there have been 88 cases of customs violations related to freight traffic from Sabang Free Port to other places within the Customs Area, especially in the supervision of the Kantor Pengawasan dan Pelayanan Bea dan Cukai (KPPBC) of Sabang. The main problem of this study is why the implementation of surveillance of goods traffic by DJBC to goods traffic in Sabang Free Port has not been running optimally, what are the obstacles that cause the implementation of surveillance of goods traffic from Sabang Free Port so it has not run well and whether the effort should do. The method used in this research is empirical law research method. The result of the research explains that DGCE monitoring through KPPBC Sabang against goods traffic in Customs Area is not optimal due to unavailability of system based information access, lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure, lack of cooperation agreement with other institutions, Human Resources (HR), as well as the vast area of supervision. Efforts are made by requesting the procurement of information technology systems, requests for additional HR, improvement ofinfrastructure facilities, the procurement of several monitoring posts and so forth.

Evaluation of sentinel events and suicide predictors In X Hospital

Sentinel events can result in death in suicide cases perpetrated by patients with mental disorders. The research was conducted using qualitative method. Themes obtained through coding the results of interviews are first: health workers are less alert, second: the ratio of officers and patients unbalanced, third: not yet implemented SPO patient safety by officers, fourth: facilities and infrastructure of mental hospitals that support the case Sentinel suicide, and depression conditions in patients led to a suicide sentinel case. Effect of rural infrastructure on profitability and productivity of cassava-based farms in Odogbolu local government area, Ogun state, Nigeria

Infrastructural development in Nigeria has been historically linked to the development of agriculture, exploitation of natural resources and public policies. This study examined the effect of rural infrastructures on profitability and productivity of cassava-based farms in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun state, Nigeria. The study was based on a cross-sectional survey of 120 cassava farmers selected with a multistage random sampling technique from 10 villages. Descriptive statistics were used to generate the composite rural infrastructure index which revealed that 5 out of the 10 sampled villages were under-developed. Economic efficiency in the developed and under-developed areas shows that farmers in the developed areas are better off compared to their counterparts in the under-developed areas. Farm size, years of farming experience and infrastructural development index (INF) were statistically significant with negative influence on productivity of cassava-based farmers. The significance and indirect relationship of the years of farming experience and infrastructural development index at p<0.05 and farm size (p<0.01) regarding the total factor productivity (TFP) implied that these variables decrease TFP. Similarly, the negative sign of the coefficient of INF of -0.742 at p<0.05 shows that the under-development of infrastructural facilities observed in the study area is capable of jeopardizing efforts at improving the productivity of cassava-based farmers. Therefore, farmer in the developed areas can generally produce more output at lower cost if there is an improvement in infrastructural facilities in the study area.

A Sociological Analysis of Economic Impediments of Development in Education Sector: A Case of Southern Punjab (Pakistan)

The rate of schooling success in adult population at primary, secondary and higher education has positive relationship with the growth of GNP. The acquisition and application of knowledge by different countries has been governed largely by whether their population has acquired traits and motivations associated with formal schooling. They are dependent heavily on the larger part of economic conditions and ideological influences. Government is encouraging private sector investment in education sector but it more focuses on the urban areas not only denying equitable admittance to basic education for people of backward areas but also perpetuating poor educational status of the people. There are various economic impediments that are hampering the process of development in education sector of Pakistan. These impediments comprise of disparities between region and gender, lack of trained teachers, deficiency of proper teaching materials, poor physical infrastructure of schools and low levels of public investment in primary education sector. A sample size of N1=600 respondents (n1=200 parents, n2=200 students and n3=200 teachers) was taken from n4=50 affiliated schools (from BISE) through multistage sampling technique. Data was collected through interview schedule and then statistical test of ANOVA was used for the purpose of establishing the causal relationship among the dependent and independent variables. Thus the researcher concluded that lack of well designed curriculum, underinvestment in education sector, corruption, inflation, low parental income and cost of schooling deprives the children from getting quality education. Thus increasing the allocation of funds to education sector, provision of administrative autonomy, lessening the direct cost of schooling and improvement in infrastructural facilities are the major remedies for reducing the negative impacts of these economic impediments on education sector of Southern Punjab (Pakistan).
