Corporate Social Responsibility as a Strategy for Improving Corporate Performance

How Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can improve business performance will be analyzed through a qualitative literature review. Relevant academic studies and sources were reviewed to explore the relationship between CSR and business performance. The findings indicate that CSR improves consumer perception and behavior, strengthening loyalty and sales. In addition, it contributes to customer loyalty and retention, increases job satisfaction and commitment, and attracts and retains talent. CSR also improves organizational climate and culture, facilitates market differentiation and fosters innovation. In financial terms, CSR translates into improved direct financial performance, better access to capital and more effective risk management. These benefits not only drive short-term financial success, but also ensure long-term sustainability and growth. Integrating CSR practices into a company's business model is not just a matter of regulatory compliance, but a strategic decision that can profoundly transform its performance and sustainability. CSR is a powerful tool for improving business performance across multiple dimensions, and stands out as a strategic priority for modern companies.

Give me uncertainty, and I will shine: CEO narcissism and corporate performance

CEO narcissism is an established fact in the corporate world. We argue that uncertainty moderates the relationship between CEO narcissism and corporate performance. Thus, we hypothesize that the decisiveness and craving for attention of the narcissistic CEO improve corporate performance during periods of high uncertainty, while these features of narcissism are not needed and indeed are disadvantageous during periods of low uncertainty. Our empirical results support our hypothesis. Our findings are important in understanding the context specificity of the advantages and disadvantages of CEO narcissism in an empirical corporate setting and thus important for CEO selection and CEO management.

The Good Corporate Governance: Case Study in Indonesia and Philippines

Good corporate governance is critical in reducing conflict between agencies in the workplace. Corporate governance is crucial in developing nations with lax law enforcement. The impact of governance on corporate performance is investigated in this article. This study uses quantitative data from manufacturing companies registered on the Indonesian and Philippine stock exchanges. This study relied on 655 observations from Indonesia and 220 from the Philippines. Corporate governance is measured using independent commissioners, the number of board members, shareholder ownership, and the use of Big Four auditors. This study discovered that independent commissioners, the board size, and block-holders ownership significantly affected the return on assets. Tobin's Q analysis revealed that only Board Size had a significant effect. Unlike Indonesia, the results of this study in the Philippines showed that independent commissioners and block holder ownership significantly impacted the return on assets. On the other hand, this study using Tobin’s Q showed that all independent variables, such as independent commissioners, the board size, block-holders ownership, and big four accounting firms, had a significant effect. The practical implication of the study's findings is that management monitoring by independent commissioners and all commissioners is beneficial in avoiding managers' acts that harm the organization. On the one hand, the number of commissioners sends an excellent signal to the market. Block holder ownership and the usage of big four accounting firms can also strengthen monitoring, improving corporate performance. Companies should have a high proportion of independent commissioners, a modest board size, and use big four accounting firms. Companies can increase their performance and investor trust by applying the above governance components.

Golden Arches of Success: Enhancing Customer Relationship Management at McDonald's, Wide Angle, Ahmedabad

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is crucial in the retail business, especially in the highly competitive fast-food sector. This research examines the customer relationship management (CRM) strategies used by McDonald's, Wide Angle in Ahmedabad. The objective is to get insights into their methods of managing customer relationships and improving corporate performance. The goals include evaluating current CRM strategies, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and offering practical suggestions to increase CRM performance. The study used a qualitative research methodology, including semi-structured interviews with branch managers to get in-depth understanding of McDonald's customer relationship management (CRM) activities. The key results include McDonald's tactics for managing data, techniques for segmenting customers, avenues for contact, and programmes for fostering loyalty. The investigation demonstrates a significant focus on customisation, the use of technology, and the incorporation of client feedback methods. The strengths that have been highlighted include the implementation of comprehensive communication strategies and the successful implementation of loyalty programmes. On the other hand, the problems that need to be addressed are the integration of feedback into practical and effective initiatives.

Moderating Role of Environment on the Relationship of Competitive Strategy and Firm Performance: Based on Machine Learning and Text Analysis

The impact of competitive strategy on firm performance has been a fundamental and important issue. However, there is a little research on moderating role of environment on the relationship, especially moderating role of different dimensions of environment. This study employs the technology of machine learning and text analysis to obtain the measure value of competitive strategy and environment. On this basis, the research empirically investigates the moderating effect of environmental dynamism, complexity and competitiveness on the relationship between competitive strategy and organizational performance. The results show that both types of competitive strategy can improve corporate performance, environmental characteristics have a significant impact on the causal relationship mentioned above, and there are differences in the moderating effects of different environmental dimensions. Some conclusions are inconsistent with the research of foreign scholars. The differences in conclusions reflect the impact of China's transitional economic environment on corporate competitive strategy decisions and result.

While existing research has established a positive link between robust ESG practices and improved financial performance—attributed to factors such as enhanced reputation, cost reduction, and effective risk management—the precise mechanisms of this relationship remain unclear. This study aims to enhance understanding by exploring how ESG considerations impact stakeholders and influence corporate performance. Empirical evidence underscores that commendable ESG performance yields favorable outcomes for all key stakeholders. Simultaneously, the research examines the reciprocal relationship where executive behavior significantly influences ESG ratings. Through this investigation, it aims to provide additional insights into the intricate interplay between ESG, stakeholders, and corporate performance, contributing to a nuanced comprehension of this crucial nexus.

How Does Digital Transformation Improve Supply Chain Performance: A Manufacturer’s Perspective

A prominent research area pertains to the integration of digital technologies in corporate frameworks and their strategic utilization. In particular, as both intercompany dependencies in business activities and environmental uncertainty increase, digital transformation has become an important means of managing transaction relationships not only within but also between companies. The purpose of this study is to explicate the process of how digital transformation technology used among supply chain members can improve corporate performance and to identify the influencing variables for making good use of it. The findings have implications that can help companies invest time and money in digital innovation to achieve effective corporate performance. This research model analyzed data from 222 domestic manufacturing companies through structural equation model analysis. We found that the more developed the corporate culture and the higher the trust with partner companies, the more active the companies are in utilizing digital transformation. In addition, while digital transformation has a direct impact on corporate performance, we also confirmed the mediating effect of information sharing between companies, which can have a greater positive impact on corporate performance as its level increases. A notable result is that digital transformation significantly improves information sharing in low-trust corporate relationships. These results suggest that digital, non-face-to-face technologies can complement and strengthen relationships that have traditionally been formed through interpersonal relationships. This study compensates for the shortcomings of previous studies that verify the fragmentary achievements of digital transformation. It also has theoretical significance in that it hypothesizes and demonstrates the entire process of how digital transformation is activated in what type of environment and leads to corporate performance. In addition, although companies with a strong relationship of trust may find it easy to invest in innovation, there are practical implications that even new companies that do not have a relationship of trust should consider active use of digital transformation when conducting important transactions.

Study on the Relationship between ESG Performance and Corporate Performance in the Context of Dual Carbon - Based on the Perspective of Corporate Innovation

The relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and corporate performance has received increasing attention under the dual-carbon goal. Taking corporate innovation capability as the analyzing perspective, this study explores the interaction mechanism between ESG performance, corporate innovation capability and corporate performance. By analyzing the data of listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen in the past ten years, this paper empirically examines the direct impact of ESG performance on corporate performance and the indirect impact through corporate innovation capability by using multiple regression model and mediation effect model. It is found that good ESG performance not only directly promotes corporate performance, but also indirectly improves corporate performance through enhancing corporate innovation capability. This finding demonstrates the importance of optimizing ESG performance and enhancing corporate innovation capacity to promote high-quality corporate development in a dual-carbon context. This study provides theoretical basis and practical guidance for enterprises to realize win-win situation of economic benefits and social responsibility while pursuing sustainable development.

This study aimed to verify whether the need for business support to survive in a rapidly changing external environment affects corporate performance and whether the degree of crisis management mediates this relationship. Accordingly, a study was conducted on companies in Jeju, specifically in the intelligent tourism service and green energy solution industries, which are promoting the digital transformation of traditional sectors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, policy support for companies was categorized into four groups: Infrastructure, R&D, Technology support, and Business support. The impact of each support program on corporate performance was then examined through the degree of crisis management within the company. The following is a summary of the research results.
 First, the relationship between business support and crisis management was verified, showing that the impact varied depending on the characteristics of the business support program. In the short term, it was analyzed that companies require direct support programs to overcome crises. Second, the relationship between business support and corporate performance was found to be statistically insignificant. Third, in the relationship between crisis management and corporate performance, it was confirmed that managing financial and material resources in the short term can improve corporate performance. Finally, in the relationship between perceived corporate support and corporate performance, as well as the relationship between infrastructure, R&D, technology support, and corporate performance, it was found that resource management has a complete mediating effect.
 The implications of this study confirm that business support in response to uncertain business environments affects crisis management simultaneously but does not immediately impact corporate performance. As business support may have a negative effect on short-term corporate performance from the perspective of support agencies, it is necessary to establish a direction for support by dividing short-term and long-term outcomes derived through business support.

Corporate Sustainability and Shareholders’ Wealth in the National Financial Sector

The desire of every shareholder is to see that shareholders’ wealth is given strategic central point attention far and above other priorities of the management. Prior studies have shown that meeting shareholders’ wealth expectations in Nigeria is complex and full of challenges considering the infrastructural deficits, security challenges and lack of corporate legitimacy capable of enhancing shareholders’ wealth in the country. In addition, effective sustainability performance has been advanced as capable of improving corporate performance and increasing shareholders’ wealth. In contributing to knowledge, this study looked at how corporate sustainability affected shareholders' wealth in Nigeria's national banking industry. Using an <i>ex-post facto</i> research design, the study employed secondary data extracted from selected financial institutions from banking institutions. A total of 15 financial institutions were chosen using a purposive sample technique during a 15-year period, from 2008 to 2022, from the population of 65 financial institutions listed in Nigeria. The certification by the external auditors served as the foundation for the data's dependability and authenticity. Inferential (multiple regression) analysis was employed using a pooled panel data analysis. The result showed that corporate sustainability exerted a significant effect on shareholders’ wealth (<i>Adj. R2</i> = 0.7474, <i>F-stat/Wald test</i> (4, 220) = 18.30, <i>p </i>< 0.05). The study concluded that corporate sustainability had a positive and significant effect on shareholders’ wealth in the national financial sector in Nigeria. Consequent to the results, managers should ensure that effective corporate sustainability policies are instituted and practised in their companies.

Blockchain technology concerns and corporate financial risk prevention—A quasi-natural experiment for Chinese listed A-share companies

The rapid development of blockchain technology (BT) has gained widespread attention from all sectors of society. In order to remain competitive, enterprises have responded positively to this research and development, which is conducive to the enhancement of their own digital construction. BT can provide technical support for companies to strengthen their internal management and reduce business risks caused by information asymmetry. However, the ability to reduce enterprise financial risk effectively depends on the breadth and depth of BT concerns. This study constructs word-frequency statistical variables of BT concerns based on the annual report data of listed companies. It conducts an empirical study on the issue of BT concerns affecting corporate financial risk prevention and regulation based on a propensity score matching difference-in-difference model. The results show that: (1) Attention to BT significantly reduces corporate financial risk (2) In terms of the mechanism effect, Attention to BT can significantly reduce corporate financial risk by optimizing accounts receivable management, enhancing debt servicing ability, and improving corporate performance. (3) The heterogeneity analysis shows that the concern of BT in reducing financial risk is even more significant for enterprises whose social responsibility is not effectively regulated and for hybrid enterprises. This study enriches the literature on the mechanism of BT to enterprise financial risk and provides a reference for both enterprise-level blockchain concerns and strengthening enterprise financial risk management.

The relationship between share pledge and corporate performance: Does corporate governance matter?

This study investigates the impact of share pledge on corporate performance and the moderating effect of the corporate social responsibility-oriented governance mechanism (CSRG) on this relationship. Using a sample of China's listed firms from 2007 to 2016, we show that a standard deviation increase of one in share pledge is associated with a 0.6% decrease in a firm's corporate performance. In particular, the results suggest that CSRG mechanism is an effective tool to alleviate dwindling corporate performance triggered by the share pledge. We further identify the various channels by which share pledge through CSRG affect corporate performance. We find that the CSRG moderating effect is channeled through financial constraints and agency conflicts. These findings support arguments in the literature that, CSRG tools supplement the inefficiencies of management, hence, improving corporate performance for the good of all stakeholders.

The effects of working from home on technical efficiency within the service industry: A meta‐frontier approach

AbstractThe COVID‐19 pandemic has accelerated the introduction of working from home (WFH), but it has not been verified how it affects corporate performance, and many companies are still hesitant to introduce WFH. In this study, service companies were divided into a group that introduced WFH and a group that did not introduce WFH during the COVID‐19 pandemic, and the technical efficiencies of the two groups were compared through meta‐frontier analysis. As a result, the WFH group had a lower technical efficiency (TE) but a higher meta‐technology ratio (MTR) than the group that did not introduce WFH, suggesting that the introduction of WFH can be positive for improving corporate performance in the long run.

Exploring the Role of Digital Transformation and Breakthrough Innovation in Enhanced Performance of Energy Enterprises: Fresh Evidence for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

The energy sector’s digital evolution is a critical micro-reflection of the digital economy’s architecture and an essential tactical pathway for achieving sustainable development goals. However, the value of digital change in regard to how effectively energy firms’ core business functions is not yet apparent. This research utilizes textual analysis to quantify the textual intensity of energy enterprises’ digitization. Applying data gathered from A-share listed firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2010 to 2021 and based upon the fixed-effects panel model and mediated effects model, we assess the impact of digitization on critical business performance and evaluate the research themes’ variability from business and geographical viewpoints using a full-sample strategy. We derive three notable findings. First, the digital development of energy enterprises significantly improves the performance of their core businesses and exhibits some fluctuating characteristics. Second, the digitization of energy enterprises greatly increases the input and output of enterprise innovation, thereby improving the efficiency of their core business in the two main ways of breakthrough innovation. Third, there is a nonlinear relationship between the performance of energy enterprises’ core businesses and their digital transformation, meaning there is just one threshold consequence that diminishes after crossing the threshold. Digital transformation enables energy companies to carry out cross-border cooperation and integrate innovative resources, thereby improving corporate performance and promoting sustainable development. This paper offers relevant insights for more effective fostering of digital transformation and can help spur enterprises to seek out distinctive and ground-breaking innovation models.

An empirical study of success factors in Korea’s game industry

Korea's game industry is enjoying remarkable growth along with China and Southeast Asia. This study proposes and analyzes the relationships among characteristics of the basic environment, such as management, technology, marketing, and industry trends, among Korea?s game companies. Through this analysis, game companies can attempt to achieve growth and expansion into global markets. From this study, these achievements can be made through leadership in technological development, by identifying competence in managers, and from awareness of the trends in markets and the game industry. Securing intellectual property rights to sustain performance and market expansion is one of the most important strategies in the game industry. In other words, the performance of a game company depends on the ability of managers to provide the newest story and user services, and to apply research and development in technology, marketing, and related industries. Because previous research has focused on the external aspects of games, including their effectiveness and impacts, this study differs in that it comprehensively considers internal aspects of the game company, the market, and the industry. This study explores the key success factors for improving corporate performance in Korea?s game industry by setting up environmental, strategic, and performance models to investigate relevant factors. We also parameterize the market adaptation and R&D functions of companies. Through this research, we expect to support strategic decision-making in the game industry and contribute to enhancing the performance of game companies.

Discussion on ESG Information Disclosure of A-SHARE Listed Companies in China Biomedical Industry

In the context of global climate change, countries are actively advocating the construction of a green, low-carbon and recycling economic system and promoting high-quality development and high-efficiency governance. Environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) , which is in line with the concept of sustainable development, has been widely concerned by the international community, and ESG disclosure is the foundation of ESG development. The biomedical industry is one of the strategic high points of international science and technological and economic competition. Improving corporate disclosure is of great significance to enhance corporate competitiveness, reduce the risks of corporate, improve corporate performance and thus achieve sustainable development of the biomedical industry. Taking the listed companies in the ESG rating report of Runling Global Biomedical Sector from 2020 to 2022 as samples, this paper makes an objective analysis of the disclosed ESG-related reports, and finds that there are some problems in the development of ESG in China􀆳s biomedical industry, such as low disclosure rate and level, diverse disclosure standards, imperfect disclosure indicators and qualitative indicators. In this paper, an enterprise is selected as a specific research object, uses the case study method, and its disclosure report is compared with the key core issues of Runling Global Ratings by case analysis, so as to improve the core issues of ESG disclosure in the biopharmaceutical industry in light of the common problems that exist in the industry􀆳s disclosure of information. In the future, the development of ESG in the biopharmaceutical industry should improve the disclosure rate of enterprises and the disclosure level of ESG reports; unify the compilation standard of ESG reports; reasonably allocate the disclosure proportion of enterprise indicators, and try to make each indicator quantitative.

Corporate Executive Background and Corporate Performance

In todays era of intense economic competition and globalisation of the economy, companies and individuals are being pushed to upgrade their backgrounds to adapt to the times and promote their development. This paper focuses on the relationship between executives backgrounds and corporate performance, and learns that executives backgrounds of overseas study and overseas work can help them to make correct corporate decisions and thus improve corporate performance. Although the academic background of executives can help to improve corporate performance, it sometimes contradicts with the maximisation of corporate shareholders interests, and corporations need to pay attention to it, as well as the personal characteristics of executives. The results of the study suggest that it is important to consider the impact of executive background on corporate performance from various aspects and weigh the pros and cons so as to find the most suitable one for the enterprise. Meanwhile, it also suggests the direction of future research in this area.

Sustainable entrepreneurship: When does environmental compliance improve corporate performance?

AbstractConcerted effort to reduce ecological damages requires that the role of enterprises should be extended to incorporate environmental issues into their core business objectives. Despite huge developments in sustainable entrepreneurship research, outcomes of sustainable entrepreneurship uptake remain largely unclear. Drawing on data of Chinese firms, and utilizing fixed effects regression, our paper evaluates the conditions under which compliance with environmental regulation may enable or constrain corporate performance. We find that environmental compliance lowers corporate market performance and improves financial performance at the same time. We also find that the decline in market performance is reversed for large and privately owned enterprises, highlighting the role of firm size and ownership in corporate performance. When distinguishing between market‐ and financial performance, our evidence shows that environmental compliance will most likely improve market performance when enterprise carbon intensity level is low and improve financial performance when enterprise carbon intensity level is high. As we have discussed in our paper, these results have several implications from the point of view of managers, firm stakeholders, and policymakers.

How smart city building improved corporate performance: empirical evidence of China’s a-share listed companies

Smart city construction is crucial for regional economic development, and the micro-level impact of such construction on business operations cannot be ignored. Based on the panel data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2020, this paper investigates the relationship between smart city construction and firm performance and its mechanism of action. The study findings show that (1) smart city construction significantly improves enterprise performance; (2) the improvements are significant across all industries and regions; and (3) the impact of smart city construction on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and nonstate enterprises is more significant than that on large enterprises and state-owned enterprises. These findings provide a theoretical framework and fresh perspectives for encouraging coordinated regional development and new urbanization construction.
