How creative and curious are CLIL teachers? Investigating the effect of CLIL teaching experience and the level of education

The aim of the article is to present the research results on two important character virtues, namely creativity and curiosity. Creativity is very significant in the teaching profession, as it involves researching, looking for solutions, and making choices. Curiosity involves “the active recognition, pursuit, and regulation of one’s experience in response to challenging opportunities” (Peterson & Seligman, 2004: 125). The research was conducted in Poland among 149 Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teachers for whom these features are indispensable, bearing in mind various obstacles they have to face, e.g., lack of proper teaching materials. In order to collect the data, the VIA Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) was disseminated among Primary, Junior High School and Secondary School teachers. In the following article, only the data concerning creativity and curiosity is discussed. The findings indicate that self-reported scores for the statements connected with CLIL teachers’ creativity and curiosity did not correlate significantly with the teachers’ experience in CLIL and none of the tested aspects significantly depended on the educational level of the teachers’ employing institutions.

Morphological Characterization of Horsegram Genotypes (Macrotyloma uniflorum L. Lam)

Under the provisions of New Seed Policy and the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act, 2001, all newly developed varieties have to be registered based on the criteria of Novelty, Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (NDUS) information helps in easy identification of horsegram genotype for each other. In the present study breeder seeds of 24 horse gram genotypes were obtained from pulse breeder, Agricultural Research Station Bailhongal and Regional Agricultural Research Station, Vijayapur for conducting the field experiment at Saidapur Farm University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The present study was carried out to have information on morphological distinctness of 24 horse gram genotypes for plant height, number of branches, seed coat, flower colour, pod colour, number days taken for pod initiation and pod maturity. All the horsegram genotypes under study were distinguished based on the morphological traits such as days to fifty percent flowering, pod colour and seed coat colour. Among the them seed coat colour and pod colour were most important morphological characters in distinguishing horsegram genotypes as they were least affected by environmental factors. The genotypes differing for. morphological traits serve as markers for maintenance, multiplication and seed certification and also serve as diverse parent for further breeding programe.

A new Calamiana species (Teleostei: Gobiidae) from brackish waters of northern Taiwan

A new species of brackish water goby, Calamiana taiwanensis sp. nov., from northern Taiwan is described in this paper. This new species is characterized by the following unique combinations of features: (1) second dorsal fin rays I/7–8, anal fin rays I/7–8; (2) longitudinal scale rows 34–36; (3) first dorsal fin triangular, second to third spines filamentous in adult males; and (4) specific head pore system: anterior termination with a pair of head pores σ and λ, median interorbital region with a pair of pores κ1 and κ, postorbital region with a pair of pores ω, lateral termination with a pair of pores α, upper margin of preopercular region with a pair of pores β and ρ. The present study revealed that the head pore pattern is varied among the species of genus Calamiana, therefore this feature can be regarded as an important character for the species identification within Calamiana.

On the phase behaviors of CH4-CO2 binary clathrate hydrates: Equilibrium with aqueous phase.

We explore the solubilities of guest CH4 and/or CO2 in the aqueous state coexisting with the corresponding hydrate. The equilibrium conditions are estimated by calculating the chemical potentials of water and guest species in the hydrate on the basis of a statistical mechanical theory using pairwise intermolecular potentials. This requires the least computational cost while covering a wide range of temperature, pressure, and composition of guest species, even for the binary hydrate. The nonstoichiometric nature, one of the most important characters of hydrates, is invariably taken into account when evaluating its phase behaviors and the driving force for nucleation of hydrates. The two-phase equilibrium concerning CO2 hydrate is evaluated considering a low but finite value of CO2 solubility in water. It is found that the finite solubility gives rise to a small systematic deviation of the dissociation temperature of CO2 hydrate. The solubility of CO2 coexisting with fluid CO2 decreases with temperature but the opposite temperature dependence is obtained in the presence of hydrate, as in the case of CH4. This method is applied to CH4-CO2 binary hydrates of various guest compositions. We also find a significant difference in composition of guests among the phases involved in the equilibria.

Phylogenomics of Paragymnopteris (Cheilanthoideae, Pteridaceae): Insights from plastome, mitochondrial, and nuclear datasets

Previous studies have shown that at least six genera of the Cheilanthoideae, a subfamily of the fern family Pteridaceae, may not be monophyletic. In these non-monophyletic genera, the Old-World genus Paragymnopteris including approximately five species have long been controversial. In this study, with an extensive taxon sampling of Paragymnopteris, we assembled 19 complete plastomes of all recognized Paragymnopteris species, plastomes of Pellaea (3 species) and Argyrochosma (1 species), as well as transcriptomes from Paragymnopteris (6 species) and Argyrochosma (1 species). We conducted a comprehensive and systematic phylogenomic analysis focusing on the contentious relationships among the genus of Paragymnopteris through 9 plastid makers, the plastomes, mitochondria, nuclear ribosomal cistron genomes, and single-copy nuclear genes. Moreover, we further combined distribution, ploidy, and morphological features to investigate the evolution of Paragymnopteris. The backbone of Paragymnopteris was resolved consistently in the nuclear and plastid phylogenies. Our major results include: (1) Paragymnopteris is not monophyletic including two fully supported clades; (2) confirming that Paragymnopteris delavayi var. intermedia is a close relative of P. delavayi instead of P. marantae var. marantae; (3) the chromosome base number may not be a stable trait which has previously been used as an important character to divide Paragymnopteris into two groups; and (4) gene flow or introgression might be the main reason for the gene trees conflict of Paragymnopteris, but both gene flow and ILS might simultaneously and/or cumulatively act on the conflict of core pellaeids. The robust phylogeny of Paragymnopteris presented here will help us for the future studies of the arid to semi-arid ferns of Cheilanthoideae at the evolutionary, physiological, developmental, and omics-based levels.

A Phenomenological Study of Psychological Resilience of Dual-Role Career Women

Resilience is an important character for career women. Resilience is needed so that dual-role career women can balance career and family. Internal and external factors in career women can also affect their psychological resilience in undergoing dual roles. This study aims to determine how the description of resilience abilities in dual-role career women. The method used is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The subjects taken were four dual-role career women at Mulawarman University, Samarinda City, East Kalimantan. The research was conducted using in-depth interview method. Data analysis was done by data reduction, categorization, and data presentation. The conclusion of the results showed that the four subjects had high resilience, because they fulfilled five aspects of resilience, namely personal competence, trust in instincts, positive self-acceptance of change, control, and spiritual influence. Suggestions for further research may be able to conduct more in-depth interviews and observations, because researchers can only interview online because they are in different cities.

Apharinodesbaixiensis sp. nov., a new species from Guangdong, China (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Pselaphinae).

The genus Apharinodes Raffray, 1890 (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Pselaphinae, Hybocephalini) includes four known species occurring in East and Southeast Asia. A new species, Apharinodesbaixiensis sp. nov., is described from Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, China. Important morphological characters of the new species are illustrated by colour plates.

KHDRBS1 regulates the pentose phosphate pathway and malignancy of GBM through SNORD51-mediated polyadenylation of ZBED6 pre-mRNA

Glioblastoma is one of the most common and aggressive primary brain tumors. The aberration of metabolism is the important character of GBM cells and is tightly related to the malignancy of GBM. We mainly verified the regulatory effects of KHDRBS1, SNORD51 and ZBED6 on pentose phosphate pathway and malignant biological behavior in glioblastoma cells, such as proliferation, migration and invasion. KHDRBS1 and SNORD51 were upregulated in GBM tissues and cells. But ZBED6 had opposite tendency in GBM tissues and cells. KHDRBS1 may improve the stability of SNORD51 by binding to SNORD51, thus elevating the expression of SNORD51. More importantly, SNORD51 can competitively bind to WDR33 with 3’UTR of ZBED6 pre-mRNA which can inhibit the 3’ end processing of ZBED6 pre-mRNA, thereby inhibiting the expression of ZBED6 mRNA. ZBED6 inhibited the transcription of G6PD by binding to the promoter region of G6PD. Therefore, the KHDRBS1/SNORD51/ZBED6 pathway performs an important part in regulating the pentose phosphate pathway to influence malignant biological behavior of GBM cells, providing new insights and potential targets for the treatment of GBM.

Adelphomyia crane flies (Diptera, Limoniidae) of Korea with identification key for all Palaearctic species.

Limnophilinae crane flies belonging to the genus Adelphomyia Bergroth, 1891 of the Korean Peninsula were studied starting from 1937, but only one species A.macrotrichiata (Alexander, 1923) has been recorded from North Korea so far. The genus was unknown from South Korea. Four species were found during our studies on the Peninsula, one of them from Jeju Island described as new, Adelphomyiajejuana Podenas, sp. nov. Three species are recorded from both northern and southern parts of the Peninsula. Specimens on which was based the record of A.macrotrichiata from North Korea was misidentified and no more specimens were collected; therefore, A.macrotrichiata is deleted from the Korean species list. Habitat, elevation range, and seasonality data is presented for each species. Images of taxonomically important morphological characters, and an identification key for all Palaearctic species of the genus Adelphomyia are presented. Distribution maps are presented for all Korean species.

The Significance of Joseph’s Posthumous Remains in Sir 49:15

The Praise of the Fathers (Sir 44–49) presents the most outstanding heroes of biblical Israel’s history. The final poem of this praise shatters the historical sequence by returning to the beginning of history. Enoch, Joseph, Shem, Seth (Enos in H) and Adam are mentioned in Sir 49:14–16. The article focuses on presenting the figure of Joseph (49:15) and understanding the significance of mentioning his posthumous remains. The question of the presence and location of this important character in the context of the entire praise and in connection with the other characters of 49:14–16 is first raised. The content of Joseph’s praise in its textual versions (G, H, S) is then analysed, and an attempt is made to interpret their differences. Both the “bones” (49:1 5 G) and the “flesh” (49: 15 H/S) of the patriarch Joseph play an important role in the presentation of this character, indicating his importance in the history of posterity, both in relation to the biblical tradition and comparing Joseph with Alexander the Great.

A redescription and new generic placement of the New Zealand marine-associated jumping spider Marpissa marina (Goyen, 1892) (Araneae: Salticidae: Euophryini)

ABSTRACT The jumping spider Marpissa marina (Goyen, 1892) is endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand. In this paper, we redescribe the species. Marpissa marina was placed in the Northern Hemisphere genus Marpissa due to its subjective similarity to spiders in that genus. The original description lacked modern morphological diagnoses and useful illustrations. The description was based largely on the female, and therefore lacked the taxonomically important characters seen in the male pedipalp. Previous literature has suggested M. marina may be related to the Australian genus, Maratus Karsch, 1878. We applied an integrative taxonomic approach based on diagnostic morphological characters and molecular analysis for a more detailed species description and assignment into an appropriate genus. Morphological features indicate that M. marina belongs to Maratus. This is supported by phylogenetic analyses using DNA sequences from the nuclear gene Actin 5C and the mitochondrial gene 16S ribosomal RNA. We transfer Marpissa marina into the genus Maratus, as Maratus marinus (Goyen, 1892), new combination.

A new species of Apecholinus Bernhauer, 1933 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae) from Mangshan, China.

A new species, Apecholinus speciosus Sun & Liu, sp. nov. collected from Mangshan, Hunan Province, China, is described. Illustrations of taxonomically important characters and photographs of the habitus are provided. The new species is compared to Apecholinus imitator Smetana & Hu, 2019. The complete mitochondrial genome of A. speciosus was sequenced, assembled, and annotated. Phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial genomes showed that two Apecholinus species form a clade sister to Ocypus and Dinothenarus, and they all belong to the Ocypus lineage.

Taxonomic study on the queens of the Japanese ponerine genera, with a redescription of Ectomomyrmex horni restituted as a valid species (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Queen ants of the Japanese ponerine genera are described, with the first key to the Japanese genera based on the queen caste. Important queen characters are enumerated and caste differences are discussed for each genus. Physical and behavioral aspects of functional queens (alate/dealate queen, ergatoid, and gamergate) in the Japanese ponerines are briefly discussed. Ectomomyrmex horni (Forel, 1913), stat. restit., is resurrected from synonymy with Ectomomyrmex javanus Mayr, 1867. A redescription of E. horni is presented based on Japanese and Taiwanese specimens.

The interactive effect of products and consumption frequency on happiness in China

PurposeA substantial portion of existing literature on comparing experiential and material purchases on happiness indicates an experiential advantage. However, this advantage is presumed to occur in developed countries, with developing countries being overlooked. To address this gap in the literature, this paper examines the effect of consumption in China. It introduces a new perspective, consumption frequency (ordinary vs extraordinary), to investigate the interactive effect of consumption frequency (ordinary vs extraordinary) and product type (material vs experiential) on happiness and to explore the underlying mechanisms in China.Design/methodology/approachThe study constructs a model about the interactive effect of consumption frequency (ordinary vs extraordinary) and product type (material vs experiential) on happiness and takes self-expansion as the underlying mechanism. The authors employ two experiments and a nationwide secondary survey dataset to test the model.Findings(1) consumption frequency and product type can interactively improve happiness significantly in China; (2) extraordinary material consumption induces a higher level of happiness than extraordinary experiential consumption and (3) these effects are driven by self-expansion, which is an important character for people in developing countries.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is incomplete in its lack of investigation into the boundary conditions, such as materialism in the model.Originality/valueThis paper introduces a novel perspective, consumption frequency and integrates it with existing research variables (material vs experiential) to propose the interactive effect and the underlying mechanism, self-expansion. This paper contributes to the theory of consumption happiness by introducing the concept of consumption frequency in the comparison of material versus experiential products on happiness. Conversely, our findings contribute to the understanding of happiness in China.

Two Palaearctic species of Orthonevra (Diptera: Syrphidae) under the name O. brevicornis

During studying European material of Orthonevra Macquart, 1829 the presence of two widespread species so far interpreted as Orthonevra brevicornis (Loew, 1843) has been discovered. One species occurs from Central Europe into Transcaucasia and agrees with the taxon O. brevicornis of Loew (1843). The second species, O. atlantica Żóralski & Van de Meutter sp. nov., has its main distribution range in the Atlantic parts of Europe and is described here. We provide a redescription of O. brevicornis and designate a neotype from the type locality (Poland, Posen [= Poznań] vicinity). The most important characters for distinguishing males of these two closely related species are in the structures of the terminalia. A diagnosis and identification key to European black-legged Orthonevra species is given as well as new sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), also known as DNA barcodes, for most of the species of this group. Some new information and changes to the known ranges of Orthonevra species are provided as a result of this revisionary work: O. frontalis (Loew, 1843) is removed from the list of species occurring in Poland; O. gemmula Violovitsh, 1979 is confirmed from Hungary; O. incisa (Loew, 1843) is confirmed from its locus typicus (Poland, Posen vicinity); and O. montana Vujić, 1999 is reported from Poland and Austria for the first time and confirmed for Germany. An explanation for some previous records published as O. plumbago (Loew, 1840) is also given.

Assessment of Heterosis and inbreeding Depression for Yield, and its Associated Components Traits in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

The present investigation entitled was carried out at Main Rice Research Centre, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari during kharif-2023 with an objectives to obtain information on manifestation of heterosis and extent of inbreeding depression involved in the inheritance of various yield attributing characters in rice (Oryza sativa L.). This study comprised three crosses using four diverse lines. The experimental material comprised of five generations each cross of pair parents i.e. P1, P2, F1, F2 and F3 of three different crosses were conducted in Compact Family Block Design with three replications during kharif 2023. For grain yield per plant all the three crosses (IRBB 55 × Mahisagar, IRBB 55 × GR-11 and IRBB 55 × TN-1) exhibited significant and positive relative heterosis as well as heterobeltiosis. Among them the highest mid parent heterosis of 39.67% and heterobeltiosis of 7.56% were exhibited by cross IRBB 55 × GR-11. This hybrid showed positive and significant relative heterosis for all the four important characters viz., productive tillers per plant, panicle length, grains per panicle and 100 grain weight. While, the inbreeding depression was found significant and positive for all the three crosses which is not desirable for grain yield per plant. Here, all the three crosses exhibited positive heterosis followed by positive inbreeding depression indicated that trait is under influence of non-additive type of gene action and heterosis breeding would be found rewarding for improvement for grain yield per plant.

Unravelling the Brachidontes variabilis species complex (Bivalvia: Mytilidae) of the Indo-Pacific region

ABSTRACT Members of the radially ribbed mytilid genus Brachidontes are often dominant filter feeders on hard intertidal substrata in the Indo-Pacific region. However, there is still a great deal of uncertainty and confusion over their species identities, taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships. At least six species names (crebristriatus, karachiensis, mutabilis, pharaonis, ustulatus and variabilis) have at one time or another been synonymized with each other and applied to these common intertidal mussels. They occur widely across the Indian and Pacific Oceans from East Africa to Hawaii. Our results, based on sequences of five genes and anatomical features, suggest there are at least eight closely related sibling species in three monophyletic clades: (1) Brachidontes variabilis-form A in the western Indian Ocean; (2) Brachidontes pharaonis in the Red Sea; (3) Brachidontes variabilis-form B, found from India to East Asia; (4) Brachidontes mutabilis, restricted to southern Japan and China; (5) Brachidontes crebristriatus, in the Indian Ocean through to Southeast Asia and Hawaii; (6) Brachidontes ustulatus, an endemic species in western and southern Australia; (7) Brachidontes maritimus, so far known only from Hawaii; and (8) Brachidontes erosus, a southern Australian endemic. The latter two species form a small clade (Clade 1) that is sister to two larger Clades 2 and 3, each comprising three species. Clade 2 contains Brachidontes crebristriatus, Brachidontes mutabilis and Brachidontes ustulatus, whilst Clade 3 is made up of Brachidontes pharaonis, Brachidontes variabilis-form A and variabilis-form B. The shells of these eight species are not only variable but can greatly overlap in morphology. Many are also nearly impossible to distinguish without geographical information. However, the absence or presence of plicate organs in the mantle cavity, and the shape of guard papillae lining the inhalant aperture, may serve as important diagnostic morphological characters when used alongside geographical provenance.

Female representation across mythologies

Social groups have been studied throughout history to understand how different configurations impact those within them. Along with this came the interest in investigating social groups of both fictional and mythological works. Over the last decade these social groups have been studied through the lens of network science allowing for a new level of comparison between these stories. We use this approach to focus on the attributes of the characters within these networks, specifically looking at their gender. With this we review how the female populations within various narratives and to some extent the societies they are based in are portrayed. Through this we find that although there is not a trend of all narratives of the same origin having similar levels of representation some are noticeably better than others. We also observe which narratives overall prioritise important female characters and which do not.

GENDER DIFFERENCES IN PERCEPTIONS OF GOOD AND EFFECTIVE ENGLISH TEACHER

This study aims to investigate how male and female view the meaning of a good and effective English teacher. The study was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Banjar and carried out using a descriptive qualitative research method with open ended questionnaire as an instrument distributed to 83 students. The data were collected through open ended questionnaire by providing 10 statements regarding the characteristics of good English teacher and 10 statements for effective English teachers. Male students consider the teacher-student relationship more important, or more precisely, a relaxed and calm state due to a good relationship between teacher and student in declaring a good English teacher, while female students consider the instructional competencies of teachers more important in declaring a good English teacher. Then regarding the opinions of male and female students about the most important character to declare an effective English teacher, they choose different characters, but both refer to the teacher's pedagogical ability, especially in understanding students' abilities and characteristics, because if they already have good abilities in understanding character and student abilities, the impact will also be very good on student learning outcomes.

New Record of Threatened Fish Species of Clupisoma naziri from River Gomati of Tripura, India

Morphometric and meristic characteristics of Clupisoma naziri was explored in Gomati River Tripura and the poorly known C. naziri, was newly recorded from the river at 23°33.144’N, 91°36.732’ E, elevation 39 m and 23°31.676’N, 91°39.184’ E, elevation 30m. Morphometric measurements (8 Male and 4 female) show the mean length and weight of the fish is 29.3±3.4cm and 246 ±7.1g respectively. Meristic counts show 40–45 anal-fin rays which is one of the important distinguishing characters of the species. The average water pH of the sampling site observed 6.7–7.2. Dissolved oxygen observed 5.6–6.4 mg/l, Total alkalinity 55–56 mg/l and Transparency observed 15–25 cm. Graphical Abstract Clupisoma naziri is currently considered near threatened by IUCN criteria, and therefore, it is urgent to take conservation measures and to study biological parameters of the fish to protect the fish in nature as well as in culture.
