Review: Policy strategy of nano cosmetic testing in Indonesia

The implementation of nanotechnology in the cosmetic industry has developed promptly in recent decades. Among them are sunscreen, skincare, decorative makeup, and hair colorant. The cosmetics industry is a significant user of nanoscale raw materials in its manufacturing procedures. However, the supervision regarding the safety and quality of cosmetic products containing nanomaterials (NMs) in Indonesia conducted by the Indonesian FDA remains not fully optimized. This poses a challenge for the Indonesian FDA, particularly concerning the significance of employing appropriate characterization methods and the necessity for systematic evaluation. Hazard identification, exposure evaluation, microbiological testing, and NM characterization are some methods that can be conducted for monitoring nano cosmetics. Procuring instruments for nano-analysis will be a significant investment for the purpose of monitoring cosmetic products marketed in Indonesia.

Approaches for the Efficient Removal of Fluoride from Groundwater: A Comprehensive Review.

Contamination of groundwater with fluoride represents a significant global issue, with high concentrations posing serious public health threats. While fluoride is a critical element in water, excessive levels can be detrimental to human health and potentially life-threatening. Addressing the challenge of removing fluoride from underground water sources via nanotechnological approaches is a pressing concern in environmental science. To collate relevant information, extensive literature searches were conducted across multiple databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, the American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Springer, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. VOS Viewer software version 1.6.20 was employed for a systematic review. This article delivers an exhaustive evaluation of various groundwater fluoride removal techniques, such as adsorption, membrane filtration, electrocoagulation, photocatalysis, and ion exchange. Among these, the application of nanoparticles emerges as a notable method. The article delves into nano-compounds, optimizing conditions for the fluoride removal process and benchmarking their efficacy against other techniques. Studies demonstrate that advanced nanotechnologies-owing to their rapid reaction times and potent oxidation capabilities-can remove fluoride effectively. The implementation of nanotechnologies in fluoride removal not only enhances water quality but also contributes to the safeguarding of human health.

Design of an Intelligent Energy Management System for Electric Vehicle Charging Station

In today’s world there are more outcomes in environmental change due to the overutilization of petroleum products in this manner prompting a genuine effect on the climate. So there is a need for a substitute answer for lessen the consumption of such non – sustainable assets. One such exertion made in the field of Freeways is the advancement of "Solar Freeways" which can be an elective arrangement. Sun oriented streets consolidate various arrangements in one – it can assist us with improving the creation of power utilizing sun based boards, to give a computerized stage to our future country's ventures like Smart Cities, and to work with the arising electric vehicles that supplant the petroleum driven vehicles and substantially more. Motivated by the fact that there are numerous amount of clean and sustainable energy we receive from roadways, the following study puts forward some of the event and application of an innovative charging method for the renewable energy driven electric cars, buses by using the roadway and also implementation of revolutionary nanotechnology along with the latest best in the house power electronics and power system analysis tools. A small scale prototype model was made by our team to attest the working of smart inductive charging process. Our project team was successful to improve the working of the model by improving the use of the preinstalled solar panels and also implement its use on the very concept we are trying to improve. On the vehicle, there will be the use of coils which are experimentally made for the flow of charges that are needed to provide charge to a moving electric vehicle (EV). The detailed strategy is presented in this report. Application of nanosilica in the construction industry: A bibliometric analysis using Methodi Ordinatio

The number of publications related to the implementation of nanotechnology in the construction industry, and specifically to the application of nanosilica (SiO2), has had a constant increase in recent years. Based on this, in the present work, an analysis was carried out using bibliometric techniques, with the aim at characterizing the development of specialized literature and identifying the largest areas of growth in the field, maintaining hydrophobic nanosilica as the research guideline. This analysis acquired information from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases to compare bibliometric indicators of the publications. It should be noted that, even though bibliometric analysis is useful to identify the study areas of greatest interest, to complement this work, the implementation of a method that helped in the research process to obtain the most important bibliography was required. This study implemented Methodi Ordinatio, which helped to take a new direction. Therefore, based on this method, a list of articles cataloged and ranked is obtained, which is the basis for integrating the final bibliographic portfolio.•The study applies the Methodi Ordinatio to obtain a portfolio of the most relevant articles to guide the researchers’ work.•Insightful information can be obtained using VOSviewer to analyze and visualize metadata of the bibliographic portfolio.•The study demonstrates how the alpha value in the InOrdinatio formula modifies the resulting portfolio.

A Critical Appraisal of the Protective Activity of Polyphenolic Antioxidants against Iatrogenic Effects of Anticancer Chemotherapeutics.

Polyphenolic compounds, encompassing flavonoids (e.g., quercetin, rutin, and cyanidin) and non-flavonoids (e.g., gallic acid, resveratrol, and curcumin), show several health-related beneficial effects, which include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antiviral, and anticarcinogenic properties, as well as the prevention of coronary heart diseases. Polyphenols have also been investigated for their counteraction against the adverse effects of common anticancer chemotherapeutics. This review evaluates the outcomes of clinical studies (and related preclinical data) over the last ten years, with a focus on the use of polyphenols in chemotherapy as auxiliary agents acting against oxidative stress toxicity induced by antitumor drugs. While further clinical studies are needed to establish adequate doses and optimal delivery systems, the improvement in polyphenols' metabolic stability and bioavailability, through the implementation of nanotechnologies that are currently being investigated, could improve therapeutic applications of their pharmaceutical or nutraceutical preparations in tumor chemotherapy.

A Proposed Hybrid Model for Cost Management of Agility Smart Supply Chains Using Nanotechnology- Case Study

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a proposed hybrid model for managing the cost of agility smart supply chains using Nanotechnology. Methodology – The paper concentrates on a case study of the Egyptian Electric Cables company related to the new implementation of Nanotechnology in Egypt’s industrial sector. The data was collected through interviews with company officials specializing in Nanotechnology since 2022. The paper constructs a model for managing the cost of an agile smart supply chain using the Fuzzy Model. The methodology involves defining specific capabilities and attributes, establishing linguistic scales for performance evaluation, and computing fuzzy performance indices. These indices aim to quantify the performance of agile attributes and capabilities within the context of Nanotechnology’s application in smart supply chains, culminating in an overall Fuzzy Performance Index. Findings – The Egyptian Electric Cables company’s utilization of Nanotechnology within their agile smart supply chain demonstrates remarkable effectiveness, as indicated by the fuzzy performance index values. Their success appears in adeptly managing various factors: flexibility, allowing adaptability to market demands and diverse product ranges; responsiveness, ensuring strong supplier relationships and swift adjustments to market fluctuations; competence, exhibited through effective collaboration, product quality, and skilled workforce development; cost management, focusing on controlling expenses throughout the sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery processes; and performance, emphasizing efficiency, increased output, and resource optimization. These practical results prove the company’s success in integrating Nanotechnology to efficiently manage costs within its agile smart supply chain model. Originality – It is believed that there is no study to date examining the effect of using Nanotechnology on the cost management of agility smart supply chains. This paper contributes to the limited literature on Nanotechnology and cost management of agility smart supply chain. It develops a fuzzy model that integrates Nanotechnology within the scope of capabilities (Flexibility, Responsiveness, Competence, Cost, and performance) in sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery within the agile smart supply chain, the construction of this fuzzy model was guided by the researchers’ creation of the suggested hybrid model for agile smart supply chains, integrating Nanotechnology and leveraging advanced technologies. A facile strategy for the large-scale preparation of starch-based AIE luminescent nanoaggregates via host-guest interactions and their versatile applications.

Luminescent nanomaterials with outstanding optical properties have attracted growing interest due to their widespread applications. However, large-scale fabrication of luminescent nanomaterials with desired properties through a simple and economical process remains challenging. As a renewable natural resource, starch is non-toxic, easily accessible, and inexpensive, making it a popular choice for uses in various biomedical fields. In this work, we present a facile assembly strategy for the fabrication of starch-based luminescent nanoaggregates using starch as the host material and aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) as guest molecules. By employing simple procedures under mild conditions, highly luminescent nanoparticles with small sizes, high water dispersibility, and low cytotoxicity are prepared on a large scale. The resulting nano-assemblies demonstrate significantly enhanced fluorescence intensities, reduced susceptibility to photobleaching and low cytotoxicity. These fluorescent supramolecular aggregates can be employed in various application fields, including the fabrication of fluorescent hydrogels, fingerprint detection, cell imaging and in vivo lymphatic system imaging. The methodology developed in this work has immense potential to greatly promote the production of high-quality nanoparticles on the industrial scale, offering a cost-effective solution that can meet the needs of various applications and pave the way for wider implementation of nanotechnology.

Nanoremediation approaches for the mitigation of heavy metal contamination in vegetables: An overview

Abstract Metals with high atomic weights and gravity are considered heavy metals (HMs). Rapid industrialization increases the content of harmful HMs in an ecosystem by affecting soil, water, and living organisms. One growing concern is a buildup of HMs in food crops including vegetables either by irrigation with wastewater containing HMs or from contaminated soil. Consumption of vegetables has potentially serious effects on living organisms. Various physical and chemical strategies are used but such methods have certain limitations. Nanoremediation, a combination of bioremediation and nanotechnology. represents an innovative way for sustainable removal of contaminants such as HMs. Nano-level understanding of cellular and molecular pathways is essential for treating HMs. Although the eco-toxicity of nanotechnology is a recent issue of concern, it is a promising strategy to deal with the pollution of the environment. These strategies can make the vegetables consumable with fewer HMs. Nanoparticles (NPs) are potentially adaptable for both in situ and ex situ HM treatment. This review provides a critical overview of recent nanoremediation technologies and the properties of NPs. Furthermore, considerable valuation of nanoremediation techniques was considered for dealing with contamination with special attention on health and the environment. The review further illustrates the ecological implementation of nanotechnology and provides a strong recommendation for the utilization of nanoremediation to improve the recent situation and justifiable future.

Impact of a Polymer-Based Nanoparticle with Formoterol Drug as Nanocarrier System In Vitro and in an Experimental Asthmatic Model.

The implementation of nanotechnology in pulmonary delivery systems might result in better and more specific therapy. Therefore, a nano-sized drug carrier should be toxicologically inert and not induce adverse effects. We aimed to investigate the responses of a polymer nano drug carrier, a lysine poly-hydroxyethyl methacrylate nanoparticle (NP) [Lys-p(HEMA)], loaded with formoterol, both in vitro and in vivo in an ovalbumin (OVA) asthma model. The successfully synthesized nanodrug formulation showed an expectedly steady in vitro release profile. There was no sign of in vitro toxicity, and the 16HBE and THP-1 cell lines remained vital after exposure to the nanocarrier, both loaded and unloaded. In an experimental asthma model (Balb/c mice) of ovalbumin sensitization and challenge, the nanocarrier loaded and unloaded with formoterol was tested in a preventive strategy and compared to treatment with the drug in a normal formulation. The airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and pulmonary inflammation in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), both cellular and biochemical, were assessed. The application of formoterol as a regular drug and the unloaded and formoterol-loaded NP in OVA-sensitized mice followed by a saline challenge was not different from the control group. Yet, both the NP formulation and the normal drug application led to a more deteriorated lung function and increased lung inflammation in the OVA-sensitized and -challenged mice, showing that the use of the p(HEMA) nanocarrier loaded with formoterol needs more extensive testing before it can be applied in clinical settings.

Physicomechanical Properties of Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Cementitious Concrete – A Review

Though concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials, there are some concerns and shortcomings associated with it. Cementitious materials' quasi-brittle behavior, which leads to cracking and a loss of durability, is a major concern in structural applications. In this review, the latest research on reinforcing cementitious concrete with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is reviewed, with an emphasis on the material's structural performance in building and a comparison of CNTs to other reinforcing fibers. The improvement of the macro mechanical properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite structures has been discussed in the form of functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC). Several researches have, in the past, used other forms of reinforcements to enhance the properties of concrete till the implementation of nanotechnology in concrete production by incorporating CNTs into the concrete mixes. Concrete's crucial mechanical properties as a structural material and the durability of conventional cement-based building materials can both be improved by CNTs. They have drawn a lot of interest because they are an engineering material with a wide range of uses. The creation and characterization of cement-based materials reinforced with CNTs have been studied by researchers. Comparisons between the effects of CNT and other fibers on concrete have also been made. This concrete reinforcement type's environmental impact and sustainability have also been discussed. According to studies, CNT can greatly enhance the performance of cement-based materials.

Unlocking the Potential of Nano-Enabled Precision Agriculture for Efficient and Sustainable Farming.

Nanotechnology has attracted remarkable attention due to its unique features and potential uses in multiple domains. Nanotechnology is a novel strategy to boost production from agriculture along with superior efficiency, ecological security, biological safety, and monetary security. Modern farming processes increasingly rely on environmentally sustainable techniques, providing substitutes for conventional fertilizers and pesticides. The drawbacks inherent in traditional agriculture can be addressed with the implementation of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology can uplift the global economy, so it becomes essential to explore the application of nanoparticles in agriculture. In-depth descriptions of the microbial synthesis of nanoparticles, the site and mode of action of nanoparticles in living cells and plants, the synthesis of nano-fertilizers and their effects on nutrient enhancement, the alleviation of abiotic stresses and plant diseases, and the interplay of nanoparticles with the metabolic processes of both plants and microbes are featured in this review. The antimicrobial activity, ROS-induced toxicity to cells, genetic damage, and growth promotion of plants are among the most often described mechanisms of operation of nanoparticles. The size, shape, and dosage of nanoparticles determine their ability to respond. Nevertheless, the mode of action of nano-enabled agri-chemicals has not been fully elucidated. The information provided in our review paper serves as an essential viewpoint when assessing the constraints and potential applications of employing nanomaterials in place of traditional fertilizers.

Nano fraction of pesticide induces genotoxicity and oxidative stress-dependent reticulum stress.

The implementation of nanotechnology in different sectors has generated expectations as a new source of use due to the novel characteristics that it will bring. Particularly, nano pesticides promise to be more sustainable and less harmful to the ecosystem and human health; however, most studies continue to focus on their efficacy in the field, leaving aside the effect on humans. This project aimed to evaluate the genotoxic effect of a nano-encapsulated pesticide on bronchial epithelial cells (NL-20) in vitro and elucidate the mechanism through which they induce damage. The nano fraction (NF) of the pesticide Karate Zeon® 5 CS was characterized and isolated, and the uptake into the cell and the changes induced in the cellular ultrastructure were evaluated. In addition, the primary markers of oxidative stress, reticulum stress, and genotoxicity were assessed using the micronucleus test. A 700 nm fraction with a Z potential of -40 mV was obtained, whose main component is polyurea formaldehyde; this allows the capsules to enter the cell through macropinocytosis and clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Inside, they induce oxidative stress activating a reticulum stress response via the BIP protein and the IRE-1 sensor, triggering an inflammatory response. Likewise, stress reduces cell proliferation, increasinggenotoxic damage through micronuclei; however, this damage is mainly induced by direct contact of the capsules with the nucleus. This pioneering study uses a nanometric encapsulated commercial pesticide to evaluate the molecular mechanism of induced damage. It makes it the first step in analyzing whether these substances represent a contaminant or an emerging solution.

Improving the Production of Secondary Metabolites via the Application of Biogenic Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles in the Calli of Delonix elata: A Potential Medicinal Plant.

The implementation of nanotechnology in the field of plant tissue culture has demonstrated an interesting impact on in vitro plant growth and development. Furthermore, the plant tissue culture accompanying nanoparticles has been showed to be a reliable alternative for the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Herein, the effectiveness of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) on the growth of Delonix elata calli, as well as their phytochemical profiles, were investigated. Delonix elata seeds were collected and germinated, and then the plant species was determined based on the PCR product sequence of ITS1 and ITS4 primers. Afterward, the calli derived from Delonix elata seedlings were subjected to 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L of ZnONPs. The ZnONPs were biologically synthesized using the Ricinus communis aqueous leaf extract, which acts as a capping and reducing agent, and zinc nitrate solution. The nanostructures of the biogenic ZnONPs were confirmed using different techniques like UV-visible spectroscopy (UV), zeta potential measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Adding 30 mg/L of ZnONPs to the MS media (containing 2.5 µM 2,4-D and 1 µM BAP) resulted in the highest callus fresh weight (5.65 g) compared to the control and other ZnONP treatments. Similarly, more phenolic accumulation (358.85 µg/g DW) and flavonoid (112.88 µg/g DW) contents were achieved at 30 mg/L. Furthermore, the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed significant increments in gallic acid, quercetin, hesperidin, and rutin in all treated ZnONP calli compared to the control. On the other hand, the gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis of the calli extracts revealed that nine phytochemical compounds were common among all extracts. Moreover, the most predominant compound found in calli treated with 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L of ZnONPs was bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, with percentage areas of 27.33, 38.68, 22.66, and 17.98%, respectively. The predominant compounds in the control and in calli treated with 10 mg/L of ZnONPs were octadecanoic acid, 2-propenyl ester and heptanoic acid. In conclusion, in this study, green ZnONPs exerted beneficial effects on Delonix elata calli and improved their production of bioactive compounds, especially at a dose of 30 mg/L.

Opportunities and challenges of nanotechnology in enhanced oil recovery: An overview

Primary objective of this review includes advantages and challenges associated with implementation of nanotechnology in EOR (enhanced oil recovery). Nanotechnology refers to science which deals in dimensions of nanoscale (1–100 nm). Nanotechnology is an important technique due to their small size. Small size of particles offers high surface area which makes nanotechnology as one of the candidates for EOR technique. Also, nanoparticles result in change in fluid and formation properties which ultimately leads to increased production. Wettability alteration, increase in structural disjoint pressure and reduction in interfacial tension are some of the factors that are being contributed by Nanoparticles for enhanced oil recovery. Apart from these advantages there are some drawbacks associated with the techniques. Mass scale production of Nanoparticles, stability of Nanoparticles is some of the tedious and unresolved task that require immediate attention. Thus, the review focusses on advantages and challenges discussed in brief occurring in implementation of nanotechnology in EOR.

Nanotechnology: A Promising Approach in Nerve Regeneration

Abstract: This review focuses on nerve degeneration a major health problem of nowadays, caused due to different nerve diseases or injuries. The low regenerative capacity of the nerve leads to primary brain injury. Clinical therapies available were only able to stabilize lesion progression. Reversal of the degeneration process and functional regeneration promotion were brought about by the implementation of nanotechnology in biology, allowing cell tissue integration. Nanomaterials implemented in the delivery of drugs and bioactive materials treat specifically targeted cells. Nanomaterials made in contact with cells lead to stem cell therapy, promoting stem cell differentiation and neurogenesis. Nanomaterials were also screened for their appropriateness as potential scaffold materials, owing to their neuroprotectant activity in nerve regeneration.

Nanotechnology-Assisted Biosensors for the Detection of Viral Nucleic Acids: An Overview.

The accurate and rapid diagnosis of viral diseases has garnered increasing attention in the field of biosensors. The development of highly sensitive, selective, and accessible biosensors is crucial for early disease detection and preventing mortality. However, developing biosensors optimized for viral disease diagnosis has several limitations, including the accurate detection of mutations. For decades, nanotechnology has been applied in numerous biological fields such as biosensors, bioelectronics, and regenerative medicine. Nanotechnology offers a promising strategy to address the current limitations of conventional viral nucleic acid-based biosensors. The implementation of nanotechnologies, such as functional nanomaterials, nanoplatform-fabrication techniques, and surface nanoengineering, to biosensors has not only improved the performance of biosensors but has also expanded the range of sensing targets. Therefore, a deep understanding of the combination of nanotechnologies and biosensors is required to prepare for sanitary emergencies such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In this review, we provide interdisciplinary information on nanotechnology-assisted biosensors. First, representative nanotechnologies for biosensors are discussed, after which this review summarizes various nanotechnology-assisted viral nucleic acid biosensors. Therefore, we expect that this review will provide a valuable basis for the development of novel viral nucleic acid biosensors.

VARIATION OF THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND HEAT ON MAGNETIC MAXWELL HYBRID NANOFLUID VISCOUS FLOW IN A POROUS SYSTEM WITH HIGHER-ORDER CHEMICAL REACT

More demanding applications of nanofluids are of tremendous interest in research and engineering. The implementation of nanotechnology in modern science has prompted researchers to examine nanofluid models from a variety of directions. The current study's major goal is to characterize the impacts of an incompressible, time-independent, viscous, two-dimensional, and laminar Maxwell hybrid nanofluid flow in a porous system under the effect of magnetic field, thermal conductivity, and heat sink/source over a stretching sheet. The hybrid nanofluid is created by immersing various silver and titanium dioxide nanoparticles in a water simple fluid. Additionally, the actions of Joule heating, Maxwell parameter, and higher-order chemical reaction are considered in this model. Within the shooting mechanism, the resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations are numerically computed utilizing the RKF45 solver given in the computational MATLAB program. It is found that heat and mass transfer are diminished by increasing the magnetic field, Maxwell parameter, and permeability of porous media. Furthermore, an increase in the order of chemical reactions increases mass transfer. Increasing thermal conductivity and heat source/sink increases mass transfer but decreases heat transfer. The created thermal flow model's results have applications in cooling systems, thermal engineering, nuclear heating, heating/cooling of diverse appliances, safety in astronomical equipment, solar problems, magnetic retention, and so on.

Engineering the Performance and Stability of Molybdenum Disulfide for Heavy Metal Removal.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has recently emerged as one of the most promising water nano-based adsorbent materials for heavy metal removal with the potential to provide an alternative to conventional water decontamination technologies. In this study, we demonstrate the trade-off between mercuric removal capacity and overall MoS2 adsorbent stability, both driven by MoS2 synthesis parameters. A bottom-up hydrothermal synthesis setup at various growth temperatures was employed to grow flower-like MoS2 films onto planar alumina supports. A thorough material characterization suggests that an increase in growth temperature from 150 to 210 °C results in higher MoS2 crystallinity. Interestingly, elevated growth temperatures resulted in poor mercuric removal (525 mg g-1, K = 2.2 × 10-3 h-1), yet showed enhanced chemical stability (i.e., minimal molybdenum leaching during exposure to mercury). On the other hand, low growth temperatures produce amorphous supported MoS2, exhibiting superb mercuric removal capabilities (5158 mg g-1, K = 36.1 × 10-3 h-1) but displaying poor stability, resulting in substantial byproduct molybdate leaching. Mercuric removal by crystalline MoS2 was accomplished by adsorption and electrostatic attraction-based removal mechanisms, whereas redox reactions and HgS crystallization-based removal mechanisms were more dominant when using amorphous MoS2 for mercury removal. Overall, our study provides essential insights into the delicate balance between MoS2 mercuric removal capabilities and MoS2 degradation, both related to material synthesis growth conditions. Employment of nano-enabled water treatments in general, and MoS2 for heavy metal removal in particular, requires us to better understand these important fundamental trade-off behaviors to achieve sustainable, effective, and responsible implementation of nanotechnologies in large scale systems.
