Using Innovative Reading Programs in Preschool Age and their Impact on Child Development

Introduction. The concept of innovation can take on various meanings, especially when apllied to preschool education. It involves the introduction of new ideas, methods, techniques, strategies, and practices within the educational setting to enhance and improve the teaching and learning process. This research focuses on the essential element needed for development and self-renewal, which includes being receptive to fresh ideas, exploring new approaches, and incorporating technological advancements into education. Preschool teachers play a vital role in implementing innovative methods and activities within preschool settings to support learners on their educational journey. There are numerous innovative learning models in preschool education, such as project-based learning, which prioritizes individualization, dedication, and autonomy in teaching. This includes utilizing reading programs that make lessons enjoyable while reinforcing acquired knowledge. One of the notable tools is Raz-kids, which enriches students’ lives and aids in their reading development. Goal. The aim of this text is to highlight the importance and multifaceted nature of innovation in preschool education. It emphasizes the need for introducing new ideas, methods, techniques, strategies, and practices to enhance teaching and learning processes. The text underscores the role of preschool teachers in implementing innovative methods and activities, showcasing various learning models such as project-based learning and specific tools like Raz-kids to support and enrich students' educational experiences. The Results. Innovative learning models, particularly Raz-kids reading, have allowed for greater individualization in teaching. Students are given more autonomy, fostering independence and personalized learning experiences that cater to their unique needs and interests. These strategies and the use of technology in the classroom have been shown to improve learning outcomes. The learners have demonstrated better retention of knowledge, enhanced reading skills, and overall academic performance. Conclusions. Embracing innovation in preschool education is essential for creating a stimulating, effective, and personalized learning environment. The continued exploration and implementation of innovative practices will support the development of young learners and contribute to the overall improvement of educational systems.

Investigating the nutritional viability of marine-derived protein for sustainable future development

Marine-derived proteins are emerging as a pivotal resource with diverse applications in food, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnological industries. The marine environment offers many protein sources, including fish, shellfish, algae, and microbes, which garnered attention due to their nutritional composition. Evaluating their protein and amino acid profiles is essential in assessing their viability as substitutes for conventional protein sources. Continuously exploiting marine ecosystems for protein extraction has led to significant environmental impacts. The optimization of aquacultural practices and implementation of innovative practices are imperative for the sustainable production of marine-based protein. This review will discuss the different sources of marine proteins, their nutritional profile, and their associated environmental impact. It also reviews the relationship between aquaculture advancements and regulatory frameworks toward attaining sustainable practices, alongside exploring the challenges and potentials in utilizing marine sources for protein production.

Teachers’ sensemaking in implementation of Meaningful Physical Education

ABSTRACT Background While PE has arguably changed little since the 1960s, there is a rich history of the development of innovations in PE pedagogy. A key challenge lies in the sustained and broad use of these innovations. Researchers have sought to understand how teachers implement these innovations in their classrooms and the factors that lead to their sustained use. The concept of sensemaking offers an avenue for considering the processes by which teachers make sense of innovations in relation to a broad variety of personal and situational factors, which influence teachers’ conceptualizations and implementation of innovations. Much of the research to date on teachers’ sensemaking has centered on the use of innovations which have been mandated through policy and reforms. However, in this research, we take a different approach by beginning with a group of teachers who have voluntarily adopted the Meaningful PE innovation and integrated it into their regular teaching practice for a sustained period of time. The purpose of this research is to understand how these teachers have made sense of Meaningful PE in their local contexts. Methods Six teachers from five countries (Cambodia, Canada, China, Vietnam and USA) participated as collaborators in the study. Data collection methods included (a) individual semi-structured interviews with teachers, (b) teacher-generated artifacts (e.g. blogs and social media posts), and (c) analysis of teachers’ local curriculum documents. An inductive thematic analysis of the data was conducted. Findings Three themes illustrate how each teacher's sensemaking processes influenced their implementation of Meaningful PE, including making sense of Meaningful PE through (a) the attributes of the innovation, (b) teachers’ personal characteristics and beliefs, and (c) local curriculum. Teachers in this study made sense of Meaningful PE through the ways it clearly connected to their beliefs about PE teaching while also helping to resolve ambiguities and uncertainties in their practice. Implementation of Meaningful PE helped teachers bridge the gap between their espoused vision and enacted practice, while supporting more authentic interpretations and implementation of curricular goals and outcomes. Conclusions This research holds important implications for supporting PE teachers’ sustained professional learning about and implementation of innovative practices in PE. Specifically, the reciprocity between teachers’ interpretations of the innovation and their local curriculum points to (a) the importance of situating innovations within teachers’ local contexts and alongside local policy mandates when presenting them to teachers and (b) the potential for implementation of innovative approaches that deal with the how and why of teachers’ practice to help teachers understand and (re)interpret the what (i.e. mandated content and assessment) of their PE teaching in new ways.

In addition, the research highlights the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including farmers, policymakers, researchers and industry players, to collectively address challenges and capitalise on opportunities. The implications of this research extend beyond the borders of Indonesia. The findings provide insights that resonate with other developing countries facing similar challenges in agricultural transformation. By bridging knowledge gaps, promoting equitable access to technology, and fostering an enabling policy environment, countries can unlock the potential of the agrotechnology revolution to meet global food needs while maintaining the ecological balance of our planet. As the world grapples with the challenges of food security in an era of climate change, this research contributes valuable knowledge to build a more sustainable and resilient future for agriculture and humanity.

ІНТЕГРОВАНА БІЗНЕС-СТРАТЕГІЯ ОРГАНІЗАЦІЇ З УПРАВЛІННЯ ТУРИСТИЧНИМИ ДЕСТИНАЦІЯМИ (ОМД)

Destination Management Organizations play a leading role in managing the network of destinations and establishing and maintaining cooperation between stakeholders. It has been proven that destination management organizations (DMOs) need to perform both managerial and marketing functions. The criteria of their productivity are organizational efficiency and effectiveness. The article solves the problem of measuring productivity (effective use of organizational resources by the management) of DMO and optimization of the main processes in order to ensure the creation of added value in the entire value chain in tourism. Strategic management tools were used in combination with Lean Six Sigma method tools. This made it possible to build a value-oriented model of DMO process optimization, which will provide support for decision-making regarding the structure of the tourism chain, coordinate the movement of goods and the provision of services, as well as the exchange of information between organization members and stakeholders. According to the authors, this can be achieved through the integration of activities: promotion and marketing, understanding consumer requirements, access to technology and the implementation of innovative practices, training and professional development, quality consulting for clients, and the implementation of a modern management concept – lean management in DMO will contribute to increasing the number tourists and growth of added value at all. The presented methodology for building the strategic boundaries of DMO development, using Lean Six Sigma methods, will contribute to the optimal development of tourist destinations, presenting a complete current picture of processes and interdependencies between them within the framework of one management organization. This can be the basis for the development of an interactive decision support structure that is used to optimize activities and operations in DMO.

Implementation of Innovation and Performance Measurement in Hospitality Industry using Balanced Scorecard

.The hospitality industry in India is set to grow at an average rate of fifteen percent per annum in the next five years the growth of the industry need to be supported by the implementation of innovative practices by the companies in order to compete effectively in the market and enhance sales and profits. It should be noted that better financial performance is considered as the main objective of any organisation’s existence. To achieve the stated performance the management need to continuously adapt to changes and innovate. In reality, very few hospitality organisations tend to innovate in a more creative manner so as achieve the desired results. Therefore it is not only the innovation which brings success to the organisation, but also managing the performance strategically is important to be successful. The theme of creating e-portfolio by a high school educator is being actively discussed by the national pedagogical community, first of all in connection with the possibility of identifying, studying, summarizing, presenting and implementing the author’s perspective pedagogical practices, increasing the level of scientific and methodical competence of educators in the process of passing their qualificational attestation and certification. The paper depicts the peculiarities and methods of creating a pedagogical portfolio of different types and kinds as a tool to summarize and evaluate the high education teacher professional achievements within implementation of innovative practices at all stages of the educational process in institutions of vocational training. On the basis of professional competence analysis and its key competencies, the paper reveals the essence, purpose, tasks, assignments and conceptual provisions of the competence approach to the process of generalization and systematization of perspective experience of the vocational school educator.

Maternal predictors related to quality of life in pregnant women in the Northeast of Brazil

BackgroundGestation is a period that can positively or negatively influence the life of a woman in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. Thus, evaluating the quality of life of this population can redirect the implementation of innovative practices, with the goal of making them more effective and practical or the promotion of humanized care. The present study aimed to evaluate the predictors that influence the health-related quality of life of low-risk pregnant women, as well as to describe the main areas affected in the quality of life of pregnant women.MethodsA correlational, quantitative and cross-sectional study was carried out in two public units that provide prenatal care services and a private unit in the city of Fortaleza, a municipality in the Northeast of Brazil. The sample consisted of 261 pregnant women who were interviewed from September to November 2014. The collection instruments were a questionnaire covering sociodemographic, obstetric and quality of life variables, in addition to the Brazilian version of the Mother-Generated Index (MGI). The data were compiled and analyzed through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 20.0. A descriptive analysis was performed through the application of Pearson’s chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test and one-way ANOVA. Maternal predictors for the quality of life of pregnant woman were identified through a multivariate analysis/multiple regression.ResultsThe response rate was 100%, corresponding to 261 respondents. Occupation, parity, partner support, marital status and persons with whom the women live were the predictors that positively interfered in the quality of life of pregnant women. In contrast, gestational age, type of housing, occupation, use of illicit drugs, non-receipt of partner support and maternal age were the predictors that negatively influenced quality of life.ConclusionOur results indicate that happiness to become a mother and body image were areas with the greatest positive and negative influence on health-related quality of life, which suggests being relevant aspects in the planning and implementation of actions aimed at its improvement.

SCIENCE EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS AND AT TERTIARY LEVEL: STATUS QUO OR EMBRACING CHANGE?

Society is changing as the influence of technologies and the implementation of innovative practices are driving change. Change and innovation are not simple processes for all (Rogers, 2003). Yet, companies, corporates and small business are managed and lead to ensure not only efficiency, but also to yield the best possible financial gain. When one analises change in the world of commerce, one does not have to be a rocket scientist to come to the conclusion that there have been tremendous changes. Not only has the ergonomics of buildings and factories changed, there has also been change pertaining to the number of people employed, as technologies afford opportunities to make certain positions that people occupied, redundant. Robotic tools are used more and more in the manufacturing chain to increase productivity and to ensure greater quality, or so we are informed.

Management of Innovation in Small and Medium Enterprises in India: Comparison of I.T. and Pharmaceutical Firms

It is a well-known fact that Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play a prominent part in worldwide economy. In India, the contribution of SMEs is about 45 percent of the gross turnover in the manufacturing sector and 40 percent of total exports. These companies are also source of employment to many people and contribute maximum to country’s economy. Knowledge has been recognized as a major determinant of competitive edge. And it has replaced traditional factors with knowledge factors. The result show that innovation does have a positive impact on the size of enterprise, and also on their performance. The paper analyses case studies of some enterprises in information technology and pharmaceutical sector. I.T. firms tend to innovate more due to their impact on the other sectors. They are willing to take more risk with respect to investment and innovation. These further result in more entrepreneurial ventures. More competition in the past has pushed these enterprises into more innovative activities. These case studies look at the background information, management of innovation, factors that influence innovation, resources of innovation that affect implementation of innovative practices in SMEs. Some enterprises are start-ups which have been started by first time entrepreneurs but some are decade old companies which have grown with time. The factors that influence innovation are opportunities, new business proposition, high cost of existing product, aim to have more market share or to be the market leader or to provide affordable technical solution to everybody. The management of innovation differed in the two sample sectors owing to their different nature.

Design and Implementation of the Harvard Fellowship in Patient Safety and Quality.

The Harvard Fellowship in Patient Safety and Quality is a 2-year physician-oriented training program with a strong operational orientation, embedding trainees in the quality departments of participating hospitals. It also integrates didactic and experiential learning and offers the option of obtaining a master's degree in public health. The program focuses on methodologically rigorous improvement and measurement, with an emphasis on the development and implementation of innovative practice. The operational orientation is intended to foster the professional development of future quality and safety leaders. The purpose of this article is to describe the design and development of the fellowship.

Why do some companies adopt advanced management systems? The Spanish case

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the organisational innovation effort that is being carried out by Spanish industrial companies through the implementation of advanced management systems.Design/methodology/approachTaking into account the results of two surveys conducted with Spanish companies (in 1996 and 2007), the authors study the implementation of innovative practices in the organisation of work and describe different typologies of companies, in agreement with how widespread these practices are. In addition, the authors study the determining factors that drive companies to use well‐developed management systems. In order to carry out these analyses use is made of two statistical techniques: cluster analysis and estimation of discrete choice models.FindingsThe study of the company typology reveals that there are industrial companies in Spain competing with three different profiles which are described in the paper. There are differences in some human resource management aspects. The greatest differences are seen in the way the information is shared. The results obtained through the estimation of discrete choice models determine that the main factors that explain the implementation of developed management systems in Spanish companies are: market competition; the development of positioning strategies; the existence of a participatory attitude in management; and the participation in networks along the value chain.Practical implicationsAfter acknowledging the variety of business typologies, the management recommendations suggested in this paper insist on making coordinated progress in decision making on strategies, resources, internal organisation of companies and human resources management policies.Originality/valueThis is the first comprehensive survey about how widespread organisational innovative practices are in Spanish industrial companies.

Investigating innovation management practices in Iranian organizations

The aim of this study is threefold. First to explore the extent to which innovation practices and activities are implemented in Iranian organizations. Second, given special conditions of Iran to find out what factors currently form the main drivers and barriers to innovation in Iranian organizations. Third, to survey if there is any relationship between innovation practices and organizational performance of Iranian organizations mainly based on a descriptive analysis. Based on the review of literature of innovation practices, drivers and barriers of successful implementation to innovation practices were identified. Through a self-administered questionnaire which was collected from 87 Iranian organizations the extent of innovation practices implementation and their rankings in the surveyed organizations were determined. Analysis of data and the obtained results revealed that opening of new domestic target groups is the most frequently practice of innovation. Also, customer centricity and organizational structure and bureaucratic and excessive administrative regulations were ranked as the main driver and barrier of innovation implementation respectively. Finally, the result of chi-square test showed that the implementation of innovation practices is positively and significantly related to organizational performance of Iranian organizations.

Expectations of change: the congruency between Beat Officers and Supervisors and its impact on programmatic change

While much effort has been put forth to understand the ongoing transformation of police agencies (e.g., toward community policing, implementation of innovative practices), few researchers have looked at those mechanisms involved in the change. Drawing upon data collected from an innovative agency, this study assesses the changes in expectations held by Beat Officers and Sergeants after a year in a newly‐implemented geographical beat system. Our findings suggest that congruency is more dynamic than previous studies have shown and that a geographical patrol strategy can increase officer’s community policing activities.

Activation and Local Welfare in Italy: Trends and Issues

Abstract This article deals with the development of local welfare in Italy and is grounded on a research project focusing on activation as a main feature of change in Italian social policies. Along with decentralization processes, many Italian regions have been acting as policy laboratories, developing and testing very different approaches according to their political attitude. On the one hand this results in a fragmented policy landscape which is difficult to recompose, and, moreover, in growing inequalities in the Italian welfare system. On the other hand, it opens opportunities for experimentation on institutional and organizational structures on a regional scale, creating a variety of practices for research and policy analysis. In the article we first describe the main trends in national social policies, with a specific focus on the dynamics of change referring to activation. We will then focus on a pilot programme which is aiming at the promotion and implementation of innovative practices in health and social care services in Friuli‐Venezia Giulia, a region in which there is a significant orientation towards enhancing social citizenship and enforcing the central position of the public actor. We investigate how the dynamics of territorialization and personalization, implied by the programme, trigger specific logics and practices of activation. Finally, referring to this case study, we propose an analytical overview of some relevant issues in the development of ‘local active welfare’ in Italy.

A School—University Collaborative Journey Toward Relevance and Meaning in an Urban High School Physical Education Program

The promise and potential for collaborative teams of school and university colleagues to address substantive issues in physical education were the focus of an international conference and a series of high-profile articles in the late 80s and early 90s. However, school-university partnerships have seldom focused on school reform. Few scholars address secondary school physical education, save for the occasional article describing its eminent demise. Successful implementation of innovative practices, such as curricular and instructional revisions, requires significant investments in teacher development. This paper details a specific collaborative effort in physical education that makes a case for systematic long-term commitments to improve young people's physical education experiences. Stories from a 4-year collaborative highlight the complexities and challenges faced by any subdisciplinary group that commits to connecting professional preparation and practice for the benefit of our respective constituencies.

The Examination Culture and its Impact on Literacy Innovations: The Case of Singapore

In this paper, I examine the sociocultural context in Singapore to determine the existence of an examination culture there. I argue that this examination culture has important repercussions for the introduction and implementation of innovative practices into the education system. I examine the 1991 English language syllabus and go on to show how the introduction of process writing into the primary school has been hampered by the emphasis on examinations in the school system. Underlying the discussion is the theme of borrowing and adapting literacy practices from other cultures into the Singapore system.

Using cognitive referents in making sense of teaching: A chemistry teacher's struggle to change assessment practices

AbstractThis qualitative case study focused on the role of cognitive referents in the sense‐making process of one teacher as he attempted to change his classroom science assessment. The interpretations identify cultural myths, conceptual metonymys, as well as personally constructed beliefs as referents that constrained change. The teacher's cognitive struggle to make sense of assessment and his role as assessor are linked to conflicting referents he used in varying contexts including day‐to‐day assessment and summative assessment settings. The results of the study suggest that cognitive referents are important influences in driving how a teacher thinks about assessment and may constrain an individual teacher's implementation of innovative practices. Accordingly, identification of referents such as myths, their associated beliefs, and metonymic conceptual models that teachers use to make sense of their actions is an important first step in developing an understanding of constraints to educational change.
