The impact of Sustainability Practices on Healthcare Institutions: Evidence from Public Healthcare Institutions in Saudi Arabia

This article aims to investigate sustainable development practices in hospitals, for three primary reasons: preserving the surrounding environment, impacting sustainability through service provision, and ensuring a safe and environmentally friendly atmosphere. The study addresses the gap in understanding the dimensions and implementation of green practices, offering insights into the green hospitals model. The study figured out eight practices that reflected sustainability activities in the Saudi public hospitals, with their significant impact on sustainable development. The study used descriptive methodology with quantitative technique to collect data pertaining to the impact of green practices on sustainable development in the Saudi public hospitals. A questionnaire survey with valid responses was distributed to 118 members working in the hospitals as (doctors, nurses, and administrators) in April 2024. The PLS-SEM statistical method was used for data analysis. The results of this study revealed a positive relationship between four green transition practices and Sustainable development. Exploring eco-friendly business practices and corporate innovation in Pakistan

Purpose The manufacturing industry in Pakistan, like any other industry, promotes sustainability in its supply chain operations. Yet, the scenario is different in the chemical manufacturing sector, which lags in the development and implementation of sustainable development practices and policies to safeguard its long-term viability. Embracing sustainable practices not only fulfills manufacturing needs but also stands out from other companies. Hence, the purpose of this study is to explore the eco-friendly business practices that impact corporate innovation. Organizational size is considered a moderator in the relationship between green practices and corporate innovation. Design/methodology/approach The quantitative study was conducted to collect the data through convenience sampling techniques. In total, 138 responses were analyzed through the partial least squares method. Findings The findings reveal that the implementation of green practices increases corporate innovation. Thus, the impact varies based on different organizational sizes. The crux of the organizational strategy relies on the implementation of eco-friendly practices and holding the right size to survive. Practical implications The proposed study provides new grounds for the natural resource-based perspective theory and stakeholder theory. Chemical manufacturers can tailor their strategies that accommodate varying resources and capabilities, facilitating more effective implementation of green practices across different companies within the sector. Originality/value The paper provides new ground for the natural resource-based perspective theory. More specifically, this study was expected to help chemical manufacturers choose environmentally friendly practices that would help them meet corporate sustainability performance goals through innovation.

Exploring the linkage of green values and green attitude in green behaviour: moderating role of green climate among Indian employees

Purpose Employees behaviour is an important factor need to be reviewed while considering the implementation of green practices in the organisations. Green employee behaviour is widely discussed area both in research and practice, as organisations look for more green practices and environment friendly approaches. This study aims to understand the association of green values, green attitude and green behaviour of information technology (IT) employees in India. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 334 employees who works in IT/ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) organisations in India. For analysing the data, structural equation modelling was used. Findings The significant positive relationships were revealed in the associations of green values, green attitude and green behaviour. Green attitude found to be mediating the relationship between the green values and green behaviour. The study also explored the moderating roles of green culture and green HRM practices. Originality/value The study stands among the pioneers that discuss green perspectives of IT employees in an emerging economy context. The study can give remarkable inputs for organisations that try for environment friendly practices and its successful implementation.

This article presents the methodology and outcomes of a community engagement initiative conducted at the International Institute of Tourism and Business. Through collaborative efforts, including needs assessment, joint action planning, training sessions, environmental assessments, and program development, the project aimed to enhance awareness and adoption of eco-friendly practices. Key findings highlight the importance of collaboration, tailored training, and targeted environmental assessments in advancing sustainability goals in the accommodation industry.

Environmental ethics and green practices in the manufacturing sector: The role of green innovation and environmental policy

AbstractNumerous studies have indicated that incorporating an environmental ethic (EE), green innovation (GI), and environmental policy (EnP) can enhance a company's sustainable performance, that is, environmental performance (EP) and economic performance (EcP) in the manufacturing industry. However, to encourage eco‐friendly production and processes, it is crucial to promote sustainable practices across different industries. Nevertheless, some researchers have overlooked the significance of these implementations. Integrating these practices into the manufacturing sector can be challenging. To address this issue, this study has developed an empirical model that assesses two pillars of sustainable performance in the Jordanian manufacturing industry. The study analyzes the direct correlation between a firm's EE, GI, and sustainable performance. It also examines whether GI plays a mediating role in the relationship between company EE and sustainable performance and if EnP moderates the relationship between GI and sustainable performance. The study collected data from 386 respondents belonging to various manufacturing industries in Jordan and analyzed it using SmartPLS. The research revealed that a manufacturing firm's EE is significantly boosted by GI, EP, and EcP. These findings suggest that companies with higher EE are more likely to innovate sustainably and perform better in terms of sustainability. In particular, the study found that GI plays a mediating role between a firm's EE and its sustainable performance. Furthermore, the impact of EnP on the relationship between GI and EP was mixed, showing a moderating effect on the former but not on EcP. The study provides valuable insights into the implementation of green practices in the manufacturing sector and discusses policy implications for manufacturers.

Green practices are very important for restaurants to do to reduce the impact of damage to the environment, but it is very unfortunate that Kokomo Resort has not fully implemented green practices for the benefit of environmental sustainability. There are also pros and cons regarding the importance of implementing green practices at Kokomo Resort which can be seen from the results of preliminary interviews conducted by the author. The location of this research was conducted at Kokomo Resort, located in Gili Indah Village, Gili Trawangan, Lombok. This research was conducted for 6 months, from January 2023 to June 2023. The object of this research is the implementation of green action and green food in increasing income at Kokomo Resort. The population in this study were Kokomo Resort managers and their staff, totaling 5 people. The sampling technique in this study used a total sampling technique, meaning that all members of the population are samples. The implementation of green practices at Kokomo Resort as a whole is quite good, with an average percentage of green action variables of 80%, green food of 82%, and green donation of 83%, all of which fall into the good category.

Green Practice: An Empirical Investigation on The Interiors of Healthy Restaurants in Penang

Green practices are typically categorisedinto four (4) areas: food and beverage, service, management, and the environment. The implementation of green practices, particularly those emphasising green interior design, however, is still in its infancy state and remains scarce. This study delves into the realm of green practices within the context of healthy restaurants, with two (2) primary objectives. First, to understand the interior design rationale of healthy restaurants in Penang, and second, to explore the perception of restaurateurs regardingthe implementation of green practices for the interiors of their respective healthy restaurant. To gather primary data, the study conducted semi-structured, key informant interviews with restaurateurs in Penang, Malaysia, who met specific criteria which include the adoption of food-focused green practices, the presence of aesthetically pleasing interior designs, and the given positive reviews for both food quality and restaurant ambiance. The findings revealed that these restaurant owners effectively conveyed their concepts through their interior designs, using natural materials like wood, cement, and indoor plants. While they demonstrated awareness of environmental sustainability and health concerns, their understanding of green practices was somewhat basic. They were more focused on applying green practices to food and beverages than on creating a green interior ambiance.

Green Practices of Enterprises and their Impact to the Consumers: Basis for Strategic Plan

This study utilized descriptive analysis to assess the implementation of green practices within durable goods and FMCG companies in Henan Province, China. Interviews with management, employees, and stakeholders were conducted via questionnaires to comprehensively understand the current status of green implementation and the challenges faced. The investigation covered various aspects, including production processes, social responsibility fulfillment, green addition and subtraction practices, and their impact on operations and communities. Respondents identified hurdles such as gradual buy-in from managers and employees due to delayed economic benefits, difficulty in convincing consumers of environmental commitment, and governmental policy influence. Addressing these challenges requires a collaborative approach involving employees, government, and consumers. The study categorized green behaviors into green addition and subtraction, highlighting the need for tailored strategies aligned with business profiles. Consequently, a three-year green strategic development plan was devised for both durable goods and FMCG enterprises, focusing on production processes, green practices, operations, and community impact. The implementation of these plans aims to facilitate companies in achieving their green development objectives and fostering sustainable growth.

The Implementation of Green Practices to improve the service quality of front office at K Club Ubud

The K Club Ubud in Gianyar, Bali, has used green practises to enhance the front office department's service quality. The goal of this study is to examine these activities and identify the green practises indicators that must be maintained and improved. Questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation were used to collect data for this study. The sample strategy used in this investigation was simple random sampling. In order to collect data, online surveys are distributed to respondents. As part of the processing, the questionnaire was subjected to validity and reliability tests. The servqual test (quality of service) and importance-performance analysis (IPA) are then employed as data analysis techniques in this study. According to the findings of this study, the application of green practices has been done in an optimal manner, as evidenced by the outcomes of the application of 3R activities. The results of the servqual test, which show that the front office department at K Club Ubud has seven gaps (+) and one gap (-) in the form of eight question indicators, can be used to describe how successfully green practices have been implemented. According to the importance performance analysis (IPA) results, the front office department must maintain the quality of the services for one indication while making improvements for the other.

Talk or walk? The board of directors and firm environmental strategies

AbstractDrawing on legitimacy theory, we study the nexus between green communication and the implementation of green practices, and in particular, we focus on the determinants of their discrepancy. Based on a large sample of firms in 58 countries over a 19‐year period, we employ an index to measure the discrepancy between green operations and the communicated practices, mapped to each firm's board structure. The results provide the first empirical evidence that larger, more gender‐diverse, and more independent boards are associated with a preponderance of green communication over implementation. We interpret this imbalance as a strategy to participate in the public discourse to gain moral legitimacy. Conversely, CEO duality is associated with a discrepancy in the opposite direction, with firms focusing more on implementing green practices than talking about them, suggesting that these firms aim mainly at gaining pragmatic legitimacy from their stakeholders.

How reverse logistics and sustainable supply chain initiatives influence sustainability performance: the moderating role of organisational learning capability

PurposeThis research attempts to explore how reverse logistics (RL) and sustainable supply chain initiatives (SSCI) affect sustainability performance (SP) in the manufacturing industry under the moderating effects of organisational learning capability (OLC). At the same time, this study is expected to allow manufacturers to advance towards a high level of model generation in the green economy.Design/methodology/approachThe data for this study was obtained from 451 manufacturing companies in the Hebei Province, China. This study develops a model and tests all hypothesised relationships using partial least square–structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with two-step analytical procedures.FindingsThe results indicate that SSCI and RL have a positive relationship with SP, and SSCI is positively related to RL. Moreover, the OLC moderates the relationship between RL and SP as well as the relationship between SSCI and SP.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings of the study yield valuable managerial insights on how the effective implementation of green practices, coupled with the utilisation of learning capabilities, can contribute to improving the sustainability of manufacturing firms. The study has certain limitations that suggest potential avenues for future research, the most significant of which is our reliance on data from a single country, which may impede the generalisability of the findings.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the existing literature on SP by considering RL and SSCI and offers a unique theoretical argument that describes the relationships by considering the moderating effect of OLC, which has not been empirically explored.

Predicting the Intention to Implement Green Practices by Small and Medium Sized Hotels in South Africa

The study examined the intention to implement green practices by small and medium sized hotels in South Africa by extending the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Three personal factors namely moral norms, response efficacy and environmental concern were used to extend the TPB. In addition, the study examined if intention predicted the implementation of green practices. A quantitative approach was utilised, and a self-administered questionnaire was used for the collection of data from hotel managers and owners. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS SEM) was utilised for the analysis of data and testing of hypotheses. The results of the empirical study indicated that attitude, moral norms and response efficacy have significant positive relationships with green practice intention. In addition, intention is a predictor of the implementation of green practices. The implication of the study is that the extended TPB can help to improve the understanding of the intention to implement green practices by small and medium sized hotels. From a theoretical perspective, the study developed a model on the intention to implement green practices by extending the TPB by three individual factors namely moral norms, response efficacy and environmental concern. Empirically, the study provides a clear understanding of the predictors of the intention to implement green practices.

Pay to be green? The effect of corporate social responsibility contracting on green innovation performance

This study examines how the integration of corporate social responsibility (CSR) criteria in executive compensation can improve green innovation performance in European countries. Using agency theory and stakeholder theory, and a database of 5,603 firm-year observations from European companies in the period 2012–2021, we find that CSR aligns the interests of senior executives with the company’s green innovation goals through green compensation contracts. We also explore the indirect effect in this relationship and reveal that the implementation of green practices mediates the impact of CSR contracting on green innovation performance. These findings indicate that CSR contracting as an effective governance mechanism could be strengthened by green practices, such as reducing resource use, water efficiency, energy reuse, emission reduction and pollution prevention. This study offers valuable insights for senior executives and policymakers who wish to manage CSR initiatives and green practices to improve their green innovation performance. Ethical leadership and environmental performance: The role of green IT capital, green technology innovation, and technological orientation

Drawing upon the resource-based perspective, we develop and test a serial mediation model of CEO ethical leadership and environmental performance. Specifically, we propose that ethical leadership enhance environmental performance and this link is explained by green IT capital and green technology innovation, with a particular focus on the moderating role of firm technological orientation. The hypothesized relationships were tested in structural equation modeling with survey data from 303 Saudi small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The results illustrate that the indirect effect of CEO ethical leadership on environmental performance is serially mediated by green IT capital and green technology innovation. The results also show that firm technological orientation moderates the relationship between CEO ethical leadership and green IT capital. This study offers practical insights and suggests that SMEs leadership focus on the creation and implementation of green infrastructure for successful implementation of green practices that can contribute to improved environmental performance.

Implementation of Green Practices on Room Attendant at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze whether the room attendant at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort had implemented green practices and to find out which indicators need to be improved and maintained in implementing green practices.
 Research methods: This study uses descriptive statistical analysis techniques with data collection methods by means of observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The method of determining the informants using purposive sampling method with the number of informants 33 people from room attendant employees.
 Findings: The room attendant has implemented green practices very appropriately In the implementation of green practices, there are 3 green practices variables with 9 indicators, where in implementing this program there are 2 indicators that need to be improved, namely the first use of reused bed linen in hotel rooms and secondly the use of reused towels in bathrooms. In an effort to improve the 2 indicators of green practices, the author suggests using or multiplying decorative ornaments containing words or writings that ask guests to reuse bed linen and towels in the hotel room.
 Implication: With the implementation of green practices in room attendants, it is expected to reduce the impact of environmental damage that can be caused by the hotel industry.

Implementation of Green Practices in Improving Service Quality of Food & Beverage Department at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach

Purpose: This study aims to determine the implementation of green practices in improving the quality of service in the food & beverage department at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach.
 Research methods: The data collection methods used in this study were observations, questionnaires, interviews and literature studies. The analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative, namely explaining systematically the data obtained during the study, so as to describe the state or status of a problem clearly and descriptively quantitatively using a 4-level likert scale. The number of respondents used was 12 respondents from the food & beverage department staff.
 Findings: Overall the application of green practices in service quality has been applied optimally. There are several stages in the process of improving service quality which in the application of green action the average value is 3.11 which means that it has been maximally applied, green food average value is 3.06 which means it is quite optimally applied, green dionation with an average value of 2.86 which is quite optimally applied.
 Implication: There is a need to evaluations, conducting SOP training and conducting supervision while working.

Factors determining the implementation of green practices in airport management. The case study of Polish airports

The main objective of this article was to assess the significance of factors that determine pro-environmental orientation in airport management. A survey conducted among Polish airports showed that the assessment of the factor's significance depended not only on air traffic volume but also on the degree of airports' commitment to green practices. For airports with a high level of commitment, the most important barrier was the cost. In the case of airports with a medium level of commitment, the most significant barriers were unawareness of the potential benefits, and a low priority assigned to green practices in the airport's strategic goals. For airports with a low degree of commitment, in addition to the costs, the most important barrier was the conviction that their impact on the environment was low. The most important stimulants were the same for airports with medium and high levels of pro-environmental commitment: good financial condition, pro-environmental orientation of airport authorities, and political pressure. For the airports with a low degree of commitment, growth rates of passenger traffic were the most important stimulant. All the analyzed Polish airports saw benefits primarily in the possibility of identifying, monitoring, and reducing their negative impacts on the environment (meeting the legal and political requirements), and increasing the environmental awareness of the airport authorities and employees. In terms of managerial implications, our research has demonstrated that there is a strong need to provide expert assistance to airport authorities in the field of environmental management. The objectives of European Union policy are among the most ambitious and rigorous in the world. European airports committed to net zero carbon emissions under their control by 2050 or even earlier, and a few of them have already achieved Net Zero. Nevertheless, Polish airports undertake pro-environmental measures to a very limited extent, despite the dynamic high growth of passenger traffic, and despite being subjected to the pressure of the same European policy. In this context, support from the EU policy and domestic policy is of key importance.

The Relationship Between Internal Factors and Employees' Perception of an Organization's Green Performance

Abstract This paper examines the relationship between internal factors of an organization and employees' perception of organization's green performance – EPGP. An organization's green performance is greatly influenced by its internal efforts toward the implementation of green practices (such as internal green marketing – IGM and its dimensions), and it can be greatly influenced by employees' attitudes and behavior as well (such as organizational identification – OI, employees' satisfaction – ES, employees' eco-friendly behavior – EFB). Therefore, it was considered justified to examine whether each IGM dimension is related to EPGP, and whether each observed employees' attitude and behavior is related to EPGP. Hypotheses were tested on a sample of 177 respondents – employees working in different, mostly service organizations in Serbia, using the regression and correlation analysis. The obtained results revealed that each observed variable is positively related to EPGP. However, in predicting EPGP the contribution of green internal communication – GIC (as the IGM dimension), OI and EFB is statistically significant. The findings provide insight into the relationship between each observed variable and EPGP, and it may be useful for managers in the environmental management process.
