Impact of human papillomavirus and coinfection with other sexually transmitted pathogens on male infertility.

This study primarily aimed to investigate the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and other common pathogens of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in spermatozoa of infertile men and their effects on semen parameters. These pathogens included Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium, herpes simplex virus 2, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. A total of 1951 men of infertile couples were recruited between 23 March 2023, and 17 May 2023, at the Department of Reproductive Medicine of The First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province (Kunming, China). Multiplex polymerase chain reaction and capillary electrophoresis were used for HPV genotyping. Polymerase chain reaction and electrophoresis were also used to detect the presence of other STIs. The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 12.4%. The top five prevalent HPV subtypes were types 56, 52, 43, 16, and 53 among those tested positive for HPV. Other common infections with high prevalence rates were Ureaplasma urealyticum (28.3%), Ureaplasma parvum (20.4%), and Enterococcus faecalis (9.5%). The prevalence rates of HPV coinfection with Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium, herpes simplex virus 2, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Staphylococcus aureus were 24.8%, 25.4%, 10.6%, 6.4%, 2.4%, 7.9%, 5.9%, 0.9%, and 1.3%, respectively. The semen volume and total sperm count were greatly decreased by HPV infection alone. Coinfection with HPV and Ureaplasma urealyticum significantly reduced sperm motility and viability. Our study shows that coinfection with STIs is highly prevalent in the semen of infertile men and that coinfection with pathogens can seriously affect semen parameters, emphasizing the necessity of semen screening for STIs.

Impact of high-risk and low-risk human papillomavirus infections on the male genital tract: effects on semen inflammation and sperm quality.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a prevalent sexually transmitted infection, comprises high-risk (HR-HPV) and low-risk (LR-HPV) viruses, the former posing a high risk for developing malignancies whereas the latter mainly for benign warts. Despite increasing awareness of HPV's impact on men's health, the influence of HR-HPV and LR-HPV urogenital infections on male fertility potential remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate whether male urogenital infection with HR- or LR-HPV associates with impaired sperm quality, oxidative stress, and inflammation. A total of 205 male patients attending an urology clinic were enrolled. Semen samples were analyzed for HPV using PCR and genotyped by RFLP. Semen quality was evaluated following WHO guidelines. Semen leukocytes, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and sperm viability were analyzed using flow cytometry. HPV was detected in 19% (39/205) of semen samples. HR-HPV infections were more prevalent, with HPV-16 being the most frequent genotype. Neither HR-HPV nor LR-HPV were associated with significant alterations in routine sperm quality parameters. However, HR-HPV+ individuals showed significantly higher levels of sperm necrosis and exhibited increased proportions of ROS+ spermatozoa compared to LR-HPV+ or control individuals. Furthermore, no significant semen inflammation was detected in patients infected with either HR-HPV or LR-HPV, and unexpectedly reduced semen leukocytes and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and IL-1β) were observed in HR-HPV+ patients compared to controls. These observations underscore the importance of comprehensive HPV screening, including genotyping, in urology and fertility clinics to understand the progression of the infection, potential adverse effects on reproductive health, and the oncogenic risks involved.

Impact of Human Papillomavirus on microRNA-21 Expression in Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer-A Systematic Review.

Recently, microRNAs (miR) were identified to have potential links with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) oncogenesis, specifically miR-21. Since HPV is a major risk factor for the development of these diseases, we aimed to search the literature regarding miR-21 expression in both HPV-positive and HPV-negative OSCC/OPSCC. The search was performed in the PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane electronic databases. The research question was as follows: Is there a difference in the tissue expression of miR-21 between patients with HPV-positive and those with HPV-negative OSCC/OPSCC? After conducting a meticulous search strategy, four studies were included, and they had a pooled sample size of 621 subjects with OSCC and/or OPSCC. Three studies did not find any significant difference in miR-21 expression between HPV-positive and HPV-negative OSCC/OPSCC. The findings of this systematic review showed that there are no differences in miR-21 expression between HPV-positive and HPV-negative OSCC/OPSCC. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that there are still insufficient studies regarding this important subject, because understanding how HPV influences miR-21 expression and its downstream effects can provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying OSCC/OPSCC development and progression.

Impact of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection on the Treatment Outcome of Concomitant Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in Cervical Cancer

Background: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection and its persistence are responsible for the development of cervical cancer (CaCx). Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the only treatment option, especially in advanced stages. However, it is not influenced by the status of HPV infection. CRT controls cancer growth along with mild to severe adverse effects. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the HPV-associated risk factors and correlate them with chemoradiation therapy (CRT) response in cervical cancer. Methods: The study was undertaken in 103 histologically positive CaCx patients. Anthrodemographic and obstetric characterizations were conducted by face-to-face interviews, and HPV testing was done by conventional PCR. All the patients received a 40-50Gy total effective dose using tele‑ and brachytherapy. The treatment response, survivorship and statistical analysis were made using GraphPad Prism 9 and SPSS (ver.25.0). Results: Out of 103 patients, 84% were HPV infected, and 16% CaCx were HPV-negative. Advanced age, lower-middle socioeconomic status (SES), illiteracy, and patients from rural backgrounds were significantly higher in CaCx patients with HPV infection. Multiparity, irregular menstrual cycle, poor menstrual hygiene, and use of contraception were significantly associated with HPV positivity. Patients with HPV infection showed a better clinical response (P =0.031), alive vital status (P =0.007), and 59 months of median survival (P <0.001) with a poor hazard ratio (HR 0.29 at 95% CI). Conclusion: HPV-infected CaCx patients showed better response to definitive chemoradiation therapy compared to HPV-negative with a poor hazard ratio. Therefore, HPV testing can potentially stratify CaCx patients for more effective therapeutic regimens, treatment assessments and follow-ups.

HPV positivity status in males is related to the acquisition of HPV infection in females in heterosexual couples

PurposeFew studies have focused on the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) positivity in male partners on female HPV infection and cervical lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the HPV infection status of husbands on wives’ cervical HPV infection and lesions.MethodsWe surveyed 251 monogamous couples who attended the outpatient department of Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital from 2013 to 2021. HPV type analysis was performed on exfoliated cells of the females’ cervix and males’ urethra by the PCR-reverse dot blot method. We analyzed the prevalence and consistency of HPV types in 251 couples. Subsequently, the risk of HPV infection in females with HPV-positive male partners was analyzed. SPSS version 26 (IBM, Chicago, USA) was used for statistical analysis.ResultsIn 251 couples, the most commonly detected high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes were 52, 51, 16, and 58 for males and 16, 52, 18, and 58 for females. Wives with HPV-positive husbands had higher infection rates for most HR-HPV genotypes. HR-HPV positivity in husbands was a risk factor for the development of cervical lesions in wives (OR = 2.250, P = 0.014). Both single-type (OR = 2.085, P = 0.040) and multiple-type (OR = 2.751, P = 0.036) infection in husbands will contributed to an increased risk of non-HR-HPV infection and cervical lesions in wives.ConclusionHusbands’ HPV positivity increases the burden of non-HR-HPV infection and increases the risk of cervical lesions developing in wives. It is hoped to provide a reference value for cervical cancer prevention in females and HPV vaccination in males.

This review focuses on the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) oncogenes on DNA repair pathways with a particular focus on how these relationships change as productive HPV infections transition to malignant lesions. We made specific efforts to incorporate advances in the understanding of HPV and DNA damage repair over the last 4 years. We apologize for any articles that we missed in compiling this report.

Impact of Human Papillomavirus on Survival, Inflammation, and Immune Function in Patients with Cervical Cancer Undergoing Surgery

No studies have examined the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV)-16 and HPV-18 on survival, inflammation biomarkers, and immune function in early-stage cervical cancer patients undergoing surgery. Patients diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer were screened for high-risk HPV prior to surgery. The influence of HPV infection on survival, inflammatory markers, and immune function was investigated. Findings revealed that patients in the HPV-18 positive subgroup exhibited poorer disease-free survival (DFS) and elevated levels of interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein, along with decreased CD4+ T cells compared to patients who tested negative for HPV-18. Notably, early-stage cervical cancer patients with HPV-18 infection experienced worse DFS, heightened inflammatory markers, and compromised immune function.

Prevalence and impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) in adults with cystic fibrosis: A self-reported cross-sectional Canadian survey

BackgroundIn persons with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), little is known about the prevalence or impact of HPV on quality of life and attitudes towards vaccination. MethodsWe conducted a national online survey of adult pwCF. We sought to determine the prevalence of self-reported HPV infection, disease-associated complications and effects on quality of life. Additionally, we investigated factors associated with vaccination status. ResultsA total of 235 adult pwCF across Canada (≥18 years, 68% female) completed the survey. Forty-eight percent of female pwCF had a history of abnormal Pap smear, with 62% self-reporting a ‘no’ or ‘low’ chance of risk of HPV-associated disease. Across participants, 12% reported at least one HPV-associated complication including anogenital warts (58%), HPV-associated malignancies (34%) and cervical dysplasia requiring colposcopy (69%). Only 19% reported discussions with their CF care provider around HPV complications. Across both sexes, pwCF experienced high psychosocial burden in the domains of ‘worries and concerns’, ‘sexual impact’ and ‘self-image’. Sixty percent of adult pwCF were unvaccinated for HPV. Eighty-one percent reported never having discussed HPV vaccination with their CF care provider, with similar rates in vaccinated and unvaccinated groups. Barriers to vaccination included: lack of discussions with healthcare providers (31%), insured coverage (based on age) (19%) and perceived side effects/risk (10%). ConclusionsAcross adult pwCF, we found high prevalence of HPV disease and associated HPV-psychosocial burden and low vaccination uptake. Given the limited medical discussions reported, incorporation of HPV prevention and management should be prioritized by CF care providers as part of comprehensive multimodal care.

New Insights into the Impact of Human Papillomavirus on Oral Cancer in Young Patients: Proteomic Approach Reveals a Novel Role for S100A8.

We performed MS-based proteomics profiling based on HPV status in OSCC in young patients, following biological characterization and cell assays to explore the proteome functional landscape. Thirty-nine proteins are differentially abundant between HPV (+) and HPV (-) OSCC. Among them, COPS3, DYHC1, and S100A8 are unfavorable for tumor recurrence and survival, in contrast to A2M and Serpine1, low levels of which show an association with better DFS. Remarkably, S100A8 is considered an independent prognostic factor for lower survival rates, and at high levels, it alters tumor-associated immune profiling, showing a lower proportion of M1 macrophages and dendritic cells. HPV (+) OSCC also displayed the pathogen-associated patterns receptor that, when activated, triggered the S100A8 and NFκB inflammatory responses. HPV (+) OSCC has a peculiar microenvironment pattern distinctive from HPV (-), involving the expression of pathogen-associated pattern receptors, S100A8 overexpression, and NFκB activation and responses, which has important consequences in prognosis and may guide therapeutic decisions.

Associations of human papillomavirus genotypes and cervical vascular abnormality in a cohort of women underwent colposcopy, a retrospective study of 6716 patients.

Abnormal vessel patterns are specific signs in patients with early cervical abnormality and cervical cancer(CC) by colposcopy, but the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections on abnormal vessel patterns remains unknown. A total of 6716 female patients with HPV infections or cytological abnormalities who underwent a colposcopy following abnormal CC screening results were included in the study. The final pathological diagnosis was confirmed to be the most severe pathological grade across cervical biopsy, endocervical canal curettage (ECC) and conization. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the association between HPV infections and abnormal vessel patterns, adjusting for age, gravidity and parity. There were 6124 normal vascular cases by colposcopy and 592 cases with cervical vascular abnormality. The prevalence of HPV infections was 4284 (70%) in normal patients, and the prevalence of HPV infections was 479 (80%) in cervical vascular abnormality patients. HPV high-risk type 16 infection alone increased the risk of cervical heteromorphic blood vessels (aOR=3.66, 95%CI: 2.54~5.27). HPV 16 and 33 alone (other than the commonly recognized subtype of 18) or coinfection of these two genotypes could increase the risk of cervical punctate vascular and cervical vascular mosaic features and abnormal cervical blood vessels. An increased risk of abnormal cervical lesions was observed for HPV 16 and 33 alone or combined in coinfection compared to the negative group. The risk of cervical vascular abnormality was increased 10-fold by coinfection with HPV 16 and 33 (aOR=10.67, 95% CI: 4.54~25.09, P<0.001). HPV 16, 33 alone or combined in coinfection were associated with an increased risk of lesions more advanced than high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) when compared to the negative group. The risk of lesions more advanced than HSIL was up to 26-fold higher in the coinfection with HPV 16 and 33 group than in the negative group (aOR=26.23, 95%CI: 11.23~61.27, P<0.001). HPV16 and 33 are the most dangerous HPV genotypes correlated with abnormal vascular patterns. Combined HPV16 and HPV33 infection increases the risk of abnormal vascular patterns. Combined HPV16 and HPV33 infection increases the risk of developing HSIL+.

The Impact of Human Papilloma Virus on Human Reproductive Health and the Effect on Male Infertility: An updated Review.

It is believed that human papilloma virus infection (HPV), which is caused by the DNA virus, is the most prominent factor contributing to sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the world, with males having a prevalence rate of 3.5-45% while that women are 2-44%. Infertility is a rising problem on a global basis, affecting anywhere from 10-30 % of couples who have reached reproductive age. This study aims to investigate the existing research on HPV, its connection to male infertility, and how it could be a helpful tool for medical professionals managing HPV in the context of reproductive health care. Infection with HPV has been identified as a risk factor for several spontaneous abortions; however, there is a lack of evidence on how HPV influences individuals undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) in terms of live births. The significance of the immune response to HPV-infected male reproductive system cells and its effect on embryos, as well as the oxidative stress generated by high-risk HPV DNA damage and genomic instability, is discussed in this review. Further, the association between male individuals infected with HPV and asthenozoospermia should provide a compelling case for vaccinating young people against HPV. The Incidence, Survival, and HPV Impact of Second Primary Cancer following Primary Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A 20-Year Retrospective and Population-Based Study.

Second primary cancer (SPC) is the second most common cause of death among patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer. This study examined the risk of SPC following oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) on survival following SPC. The study was a population-based, retrospective study including all patients diagnosed with OPSCC in eastern Denmark from 2000-2020 who received curative intended treatment. The incidence rate ratio (IRR), age-adjusted incidence rates (AAIR), and hazard ratios (HR) were calculated. A total of 2584 patients with primary OPSCC were included (median follow-up time: 3.1 years), with 317 patients (12.3%) diagnosed with SPC. The risk of SPC was approximately five times the occurrence of cancer in the general population (IRR: 4.96). The median time to SPC after a primary OPSCC was 2.0 years (interquartile range (IQR) = 0.6-4.2 years). HPV-positive (HPV+) patients had a significantly longer median time to SPC, and a significant better survival compared to HPV-negative (HPV-) patients. SPC was most frequently found in lungs, head, and neck (LHN) for HPV- OPSCC patients and lungs followed by gender-specific (prostate, ovaries, or endometrium) for HPV+ OPSCC. There was a significant difference between the two groups when distributed between "within" or "outside" LHN. Patients with SPC outside LHN had a significant better overall survival. This knowledge should be considered during post-treatment surveillance and might guide targeted imaging.

The impact of Human Papilloma Virus status on the prediction of head and neck cancer chemoradiotherapy outcomes using the pre-treatment apparent diffusion coefficient.

Objective:To determine the impact of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) status on the prediction of head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) chemoradiotherapy (CRT) outcomes with pre-treatment quantitative diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI).Methods:Following ethical approval, 65 participants (53 male, age 59.9 ± 7.86) underwent pre-treatment DW-MRI in this prospective cohort observational study. There were 46 HPV OPC and 19 other HNSCC cases with Stage III/IV HNSCC. Regions of interest (ROIs) (volume, largest area, core) at the primary tumour (n = 57) and largest pathological node (n = 59) were placed to analyse ADCmean and ADCmin. Unpaired t-test or Mann–Whitney test evaluated the impact of HPV OPC status and clinical parameters on their prediction of post-CRT 2 year locoregional and disease-free survival (LRFS and DFS). Multivariate logistic regression compared significant variables with 2 year outcomes.Results:On univariate analysis of all participants, the primary tumour area ADCmean was predictive of 2 year LRFS (p = 0.04). However, only the HPV OPC diagnosis (LFRS p = 0.03; DFS p = 0.02) predicted outcomes on multivariate analysis. None of the pre-treatment ADC values were predictive of 2 year DFS in the HPV OPC subgroup (p = 0.21–0.68). Amongst participants without 2 year disease-free survival, HPV-OPC was found to have much lower primary tumour ADCmean values than other HNSCC.Conclusion:Knowledge of HPV OPC status is required in order to determine the impact of the pre-treatment ADC values on post-CRT outcomes in HNSCC.Advances in knowledge:Pre-treatment ADCmean and ADCmin values acquired using different ROI methods are not predictive of 2 year survival outcomes in HPV OPC.

Impact of human papillomavirus on the tumor microenvironment in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Increasing evidence has elucidated the clinicopathological significance of tumor microenvironment (TME) cells. However, TME differences associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) have not been well characterized. In our study, we comprehensively determined the TME infiltration patterns in 315 OPSCC patients, and systematically correlated the TME phenotypes with genomic characteristics and clinical features of OPSCCs. In this way, we observed the enrichment of high endothelial cells and adaptive immune cells in HPV-positive (HPV+) OPSCCs, in contrast to the enrichment of fibroblasts and capillary endothelial cells in HPV- negative (HPV-) OPSCCs. By focusing on immune checkpoint genes, we constructed a coexpression network using genes that were differentially expressed between HPV+ and HPV- OPSCCs. Functional analysis of the network indicated that HPV+ OPSCCs had elevated immune activities by promoting adaptive immune response and suppressing activities related to extracellular matrix organization. Subsequently, clinical analysis showed that identified TME-relevant genes were closely associated with the prognosis and therapy response in OPSCC. Importantly, results from the TME analysis were further validated using an independent OPSCC cohort.

Background: Patients undergoing (chemo) radiotherapy for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) are at high risk of malnutrition during and after treatment. Malnutrition can lead to poor tolerance to treatment, treatment interruptions, poor quality of life (QOL) and potentially reduced survival rate. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is now known as the major cause of OPSCC. However, research regarding its effect on nutritional outcomes is limited. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between HPV status and nutritional outcomes, including malnutrition and weight loss during and after patients’ (chemo) radiotherapy treatment for OPSCC. Methods: This was a longitudinal cohort study comparing the nutritional outcomes of HPV-positive and negative OPSCC patients undergoing (chemo) radiotherapy. The primary outcome was nutritional status as measured using the Patient Generated-Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA). Secondary outcomes included loss of weight, depression, QOL and adverse events. Results: Although HPV-positive were less likely to be malnourished according to PG-SGA at the beginning of treatment, we found that the difference between malnutrition rates in response to treatment was not significantly different over the course of radiotherapy and 3 months post treatment. HPV-positive participants had significantly higher odds of experiencing >10% weight loss at three months post-treatment than HPV-negative participants (OR = 49.68, 95% CI (2.7, 912.86) p ≤ 0.01). Conclusions: The nutritional status of HPV positive and negative patients were both negatively affected by treatment and require similarly intense nutritional intervention. In acute recovery, HPV positive patients may require more intense intervention. At 3- months post treatment, both groups still showed nutritional symptoms that require nutritional intervention so ongoing nutritional support is essential.

Seminal human papillomavirus infection and reproduction: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

The impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) on male fertility and associated reproductive outcomes has not been clarified. To elucidate the prevalence of seminal HPV infection and assess the associated effects on seminal parameters, male infertility, and reproductive outcomes. A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. A search was performed using PubMed, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Cochrane databases. Studies published until November 2019 were included. HPV prevalence, risk of infertility, seminal parameters, and reproductive outcomes were evaluated among the general population and infertile men. Fifty studies met the inclusion criteria. The prevalence of seminal HPV infection is significantly higher in infertile compared to the general population (20.9% versus 8.2%). A significant association between seminal HPV infection and male infertility (OR 3.30, 95% CI 1.87-5.84), even when adjusting for female infertility (OR 3.02, 95% CI=2.11-4.33) was founded. In addition, HPV infection is related to a significant decrease in progressive motility (DM -10.35, IC -13.75, -6.96), a low sperm morphology score (DM -2.46, 95% CI -3.83, -1.08), and a significant increase in the sperm DNA fragmentation index (7.24, 95% CI 4.44.10.03) compared with HPV-negative patients. It was also observed an increased risk of miscarriage (OR 5.13, 95% CI 2.40,10.94), and a reduced chance of ongoing pregnancy (OR 0.33, IC 95% 0.13,0,82) in patients undergoing ART with seminal HPV infection. Infertile men have a higher prevalence of seminal HPV infection compared to the general population, regardless of the HPV genotype detected. HPV in semen may have an impact in sperm quality and reproductive outcomes. Additional well-designed studies are warranted to improve the quality of evidence.

Outcome measurements and statistical analysisKaplan-Meier and restricted mean survival time (RMST) analyses for overall survival (OS) were performed for all patients and after propensity score-matching (PSM; n = 136), for which patient age, histology, type of penile surgical procedure, pathological tumor and nodal stage, ILND laterality, pelvic LND, and perioperative treatment were taken into account when assessing differences between HPV+ and HPV– patients. Finally, we looked at genomic alterations in PSCC using data from the Foundation Medicine database (n = 199) to characterize HPV+ PSCC. Results and limitationsPatients with HPV+ PSCC (n = 86; 17%) had lower clinical N stage (p < 0.001) and inguinal lymph node metastasis density (p < 0.001). Perioperative RT was delivered in 49 patients (9.7%), with the vast majority receiving adjuvant RT (n = 40). HPV+ patients had similar median OS (p = 0.1) but longer RMST than HPV– patients at different time points. Nevertheless, HPV+ patients treated with perioperative RT exhibited longer median OS (p = 0.015) and longer RMST compared to HPV– patients. In the PSM cohorts, HPV+ status remained significantly associated with longer OS after RT. The HPV– PSCC group had a higher frequency of TP53 mutations compared to HPV+ PSCC (75% vs 15%; p < 0.001). The results are limited by the retrospective nature of the data. ConclusionsPerioperative RT was more effective in the HPV+ PSCC subgroup. Reasons for the enhanced radiosensitivity may be related to the lack of TP53 mutations. Patient summaryWe analyzed data from a large multicenter database for patients with penile cancer who had received inguinal lymph node dissection, with or without chemotherapy or radiotherapy. We found that for tumors positive for human papillomavirus (HPV), use of radiotherapy resulted in prolonged survival compared to HPV-negative tumors. On the basis of these results we are inspired to design studies on the use of radiotherapy in HPV-selected patients.
