Osteogenic differentiation enhancement of human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells: A review

Background: The article aims to review osteogenic differentiation enhancement in human Dental Pulp Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hDPMSCs). Material and Methods: The literature review was carried out in PUBMED with the keywords: human Dental Pulp Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hDPMSCs) and osteogenic differentiation. Conclusions: Many research investigated the impact of different compounds on the osteogenic differentiation of hDPMSCs and the appliance by which these compounds promote osteogenesis in hDPMSCs which are a potential source for bone regeneration.

Characterization of bioactive substances MHGF-68 on tumour cell lines with LiveFlow In Vitro Technology

Abstract As part of experimental research, growth factor-like substances associated with MHV-68, named MHGF-68, were discovered in our laboratory. MHGF-68 activity was manifested by the ability to alter cell morphology, that is, normal phenotype to transformed, resp. suppresses the transformed phenotype of tumour cells. The aim of the experiments was to monitor the effect of MHGF-68 on the change of the cell actin cytoskeleton in the tumour cell line Hepa1c1c7, as well as the normal cell line NIH3T3, and compare conventional stationary cultivation and dynamic cultivation conditions using a LiveFlow system (In Vitro Technologies). LiveFlow is an advanced system to test the impact of different compounds on the cell cultures, which allows simulation of in vivo conditions thanks to continuous flow of cultivation medium. MHGF-68 was prepared with the infection of BHK-21 cells with MHV-68 virus under non-permissive conditions (41°C). After dynamic cultivation with MHGF-68, we observed changes in morphology on Hepa1c1c7 cells. In cells cultured in a dynamic environment, we observed more pronounced changes in cell morphology in comparison with cells cultured statically. We observed no changes in the cytoskeletal structures in the NIH 3T3 cell line affected by MHGF-68 in both types of cultivation. The advantage of LiveFlow in comparison to in vivo testing is that the experiments performed in this system are less time and money consuming. Dynamic cultivation in the LiveFlow system is suitable for optimizing experiments before testing substances in vivo.

A Tutorial on Pharmacodynamic Scripting Facility inSimcyp.

The Simcyp Simulator provides a framework for mechanistic Physiologically‐Based Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic modeling of potentially interacting drugs. It also provides a scripting facility, using the Lua language, for developing customized pharmacodynamic and toxicity models driven by drug concentrations at the site of action. We present an overview of the scripting facility including the scripting language, the editor, and how scripts are embedded within the Simulator. Examples incorporating differential equations and including inter‐individual variability on parameters are presented.

Investigation of Reforming Catalyst Deactivation by Exposure to Fly Ash from Biomass Gasification in Laboratory Scale

Production of synthesis gas by catalytic reforming of product gas from biomass gasification can lead to catalyst deactivation by the exposure to ash compounds present in the flue gas. The impact of fly ash from biomass gasification on reforming catalysts was studied at the laboratory scale. The investigated catalyst was Pt/Rh based, and it was exposed to generated K2SO4 aerosol particles and to aerosol particles produced from the water-soluble part of biomass fly ash, originating from a commercial biomass combustion plant. The noble metal catalyst was also compared with a commercial Ni-based catalyst, exposed to aerosol particles of the same fashion. To investigate the deactivation by aerosol particles, a flow containing submicrometer-size selected aerosol particles was led through the catalyst bed. The particle size of the poison was measured prior to the catalytic reactor system. Fresh and aerosol particle exposed catalysts were characterized using BET surface area, XRPD (X-ray powder diffraction), and H2 chemisorption. The Pt/Rh catalyst was also investigated for activity in the steam methane reforming reaction. It was found that the method to deposit generated aerosol particles on reforming catalysts could be a useful procedure to investigate the impact of different compounds possibly present in the product gas from the gasifier, acting as potential catalyst poisons. The catalytic deactivation procedure by exposure to aerosol particles is somehow similar to what happens in a real plant, when a catalyst bed is located subsequent to a biomass gasifier or a combustion boiler. Using different environments (oxidizing, reducing, steam present, etc.) in the aerosol generation adds further flexibility to the suggested aerosol deactivation method. It is essential to investigate the deactivating effect at the laboratory scale before a full-scale plant is taken into operation to avoid operational problems.

Impact of additives on corrosion rate of cans filled with pieces of apricot

Polarization techniques are used for testing the impact of different compounds (additives) on tinplate corrosion, using pieces of apricot dipped in syrup with and without nitrate addition as electrolyte solution, at the same time using filled cans as electrolytic cell and operating electrode. This procedure determined the intensity of inhibiting tin dissolving with some of the used additives like sodium-benzoate, potassium-sorbate sodium-lauril-sulphate and p-aminobenzoate acid. Adding these additives to canned pieces of apricot in syrup led to inhibiting of tin dissolving, which was experimentally proved.
