A Model Apporach for Identity and Access Management (IAM) System in the Cloud

Through use of cloud computing, information may be accessible from a range of different types of devices. It is now possible to communicate with a company at any time or location, regardless of location or time zone. Using the cloud has a number of advantages, some of which include lower expenditures on information technology and infrastructure expenses, more agility, and improved continuity planning. These benefits can only be attained via the implementation of a reliable identity and access control system for cloud applications and services. Managing these identities and limiting the access that cloud clients and applications have continues to be a significant challenge in the modern day. In order to strengthen the protection offered by a venture, it is necessary to set up a trust worthy identity and access management (IAM) system in the cloud. The findings of this study provide an intelligent and reliable IAM system that is based on cloud computing.

A Systematic Review of Identity and Access Management Requirements in Enterprises and Potential Contributions of Self-Sovereign Identity

Digital identity and access management (IAM) poses significant challenges for companies. Cyberattacks and resulting data breaches frequently have their root cause in enterprises’ IAM systems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, issues with the remote authentication of employees working from home highlighted the need for better IAM solutions. Using a design science research approach, the paper reviews the requirements for IAM systems from an enterprise perspective and identifies the potential benefits of self-sovereign identity (SSI) – an emerging, passwordless paradigm in identity management that provides end users with cryptographic attestations stored in digital wallet apps. To do so, this paper first conducts a systematic literature review followed by an interview study and categorizes IAM system requirements according to security and compliance, operability, technology, and user aspects. In a second step, it presents an SSI-based prototype for IAM, whose suitability for addressing IAM challenges was assessed by twelve domain experts. The results suggest that the SSI-based authentication of employees can address requirements in each of the four IAM requirement categories. SSI can specifically improve manageability and usability aspects and help implement acknowledged best practices such as the principle of least privilege. Nonetheless, the findings also reveal that SSI is not a silver bullet for all of the challenges that today’s complex IAM systems face.

Integrated identity and access management metamodel and pattern system for secure enterprise architecture

Identity and access management (IAM) is one of the key components of the secure enterprise architecture for protecting the digital assets of the information systems. The challenge is: How to model an integrated IAM for a secure enterprise architecture to protect digital assets? This research aims to address this question and develops an ontology based integrated IAM metamodel for the secure digital enterprise architecture (EA). Business domain and technology agnostic characteristics of the developed IAM metamodel will allow it to develop IAM models for different types of information systems. Well-known design science research (DSR) methodology was adopted to conduct this research. The developed IAM metamodel is evaluated by using the demonstration method. Furthermore, as a part of the evaluation, a pattern system has been developed, consisting of eight IAM patterns. Each pattern offers a solution to a specific IAM related problem. The outcome of this research indicates that enterprise, IAM and information systems architects and academic researchers can use the proposed IAM metamodel and the pattern system to design and implement situation-specific IAM models within the overall context of a secure EA for information systems.

Blockchain-Based Identity Management Systems in Health IoT: A Systematic Review

Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems are crucial for any information system, such as healthcare information systems. Health IoT (HIoT) applications are targeted by attackers due to the high-volume and sensitivity of health data. Thus, IAM systems for HIoT need to be built with high standards and based on reliable frameworks. Blockchain (BC) is an emerging technology widely used for developing decentralized IAM solutions. Although, the integration of BC in HIoT for proposing IAM solutions has gained recent attention, BC is an evolving technology and needs to be studied carefully before using it for IAM solutions in HIoT applications. A systematic literature review was conducted on the BC-based IAM systems in HIoT applications to investigate the security aspect. Twenty-four studies that satisfied the inclusion criteria and passed the quality assessment were included in this review. We studied BC-based solutions in HIoT applications to explore the IAM system architecture, security requirements and threats. We summarized the main components and technologies in typical BC-based IAM systems and the layered architecture of the BC-based IAM system in HIoT. Accordingly, the security threats and requirements were summarized. Our systematic review shows that there is a lack of a comprehensive security framework, risk assessments, and security and functional performance evaluation metrics in BC-based IAM in HIoT applications.

INTELLIGENT AUTHENTICATION FOR IDENTITY AND ACCESS MANAGEMENT: A REVIEW PAPER

Themain task is the authentication, since it is responsible for user identity proving for service providers that corporate with (IAM).This paper provides a review on intelligent authentication research applicable to IAM systems. These researches areevaluated according to the proposal of intelligent authentication key factors. Depending on this evaluation it could not be foundresearch implement an authentication that satisfies all these key factors.

Mediated IBC-Based Management System of Identity and Access in Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a new technology that provide to consumers dramatically scalable andvirtualized resources, bandwidth, software and hardware on demand. However, cloud computingintroduces serious security problems. One of these major security concerns is the management ofaccess and identities of different entities involved in such environment. This paper proposes a newsystem for Identity and Access Management (IAM) based on combining the techniques of Identity-BasedCryptography (IBC) and security mediated cryptography with the Trusted Cloud (TC) to facilitate thesecure management and access control for cloud computing. IBC is an interesting choice for IAM as itsignificantly reduces the key management complexity. On the other hand, mediated cryptographyenables system administrators to achieve access control in a fine grained manner, while a TC canprovide a Single Sign On (SSO) ability to users. The paper also presents results of the developedprototype implementation of the proposed IAM system.
