A hybrid approach to resolve ambiguity in new product development

Improving technological innovation (TI) capabilities is an integral component of government policies aimed at improving the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This study aims to address implementation challenges arising from the use of Qualitative Forecasting Method (QFM) in new product development programs and proposes a novel method to aid decision makers (DMs) in their decision-making process. To tackle this issue, a hybrid method is proposed, incorporating Fuzzy Delphi method (FDM), Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and Multi-Choice Goal Programming with utility function (MCGP-U), while introducing prospect theory as a novel approach. is proposed. The proposed method offers several advantages, including effective early planning, accurate identification of key success factors (KSFs), selection of the most suitable project leader, and estimation of the most reasonable resource investment, all of which are critical factors for success in TI for enterprises. The research results show that (1) the proposed method reduces project execution time by 20% compared to the original manual planning, (2) it facilitates the acquisition of KSFs using a rational approach to ensure project success, and (3) it increases the financial returns of the company by 17% compared to the company’s forecast. In summary, this paper makes a significant contribution to practical applications and additionally contributes to decision-making field by introducing prospect theory into the proposed hybrid method.

The article presents the results of research on key success factors in project management in the healthcare sector. The aim was to identify and analyze the key success factors, their understanding and perception by stakeholders, and the practical implications for healthcare project management.

A new look at PPP in health protection: perspectives of interaction between the state and hospitals of Ukraine

In the context of modern challenges facing the healthcare system of Ukraine, in particular the limitation of financial resources, and the need to modernize the infrastructure and improve the quality of medical services, public-private partnership (PPP) emerges as a strategic tool that offers new opportunities for solving these problems. The relevance of this study lies in the in-depth analysis of the potential of PPPs in the field of health care in Ukraine, with an emphasis on the identification of key success factors, challenges, and barriers that accompany the implementation of such projects. Given the growing need for investment to improve health infrastructure and services, as well as the need to introduce innovative approaches to healthcare delivery, PPP research is becoming increasingly important. It makes it possible to identify mechanisms through which effective interaction between public authorities and the private sector is possible, which, in turn, contributes to the achievement of strategic goals in the field of health care. This study is aimed at revealing the possibilities of PPPs to improve the availability and quality of medical services, analyzes international experience, and outlines recommendations for the adaptation of best practices in the context of the Ukrainian healthcare system. The results of the study are intended to contribute to the development of effective policies and strategies for the implementation of PPPs, which will become the basis for the sustainable development of health care in Ukraine, improving the quality of medical care and providing the population with affordable and high-quality medical services.

Small-Scale Entrepreneurial Performance in Sustainable Tourism: The Case of Amasya

With the globalizing trends, innovative approaches have stood out in the tourism sector. In line with these approaches, the number of entrepreneurships in tourism increases and a significant association is formed between tourism and entrepreneurship in terms of sustainability. Tourism activities, which have an important role in regional development, can make significant contributions to the economy of the region with the entrepreneurship activities carried out by the local people. This study sets forth the relationship between tourism and entrepreneurship in ensuring sustainable tourism development in the tourism destination of Amasya, which is rich in historical areas, cultural and natural features, based on small-scale enterprises. The study covers identification of key success factors affecting tourism entrepreneurship and testing of the relationship between the factors and performance via the SPSS program (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) by conducting a survey that measures subjective and objective perception with 78 small-scale tourism enterprises. As the result of the study, it has been concluded that environmental, organizational, enterprise-oriented and entrepreneur-oriented features should be discussed in a holistic manner in the development of sustainable tourism entrepreneurship.

IMPORTANCE OF THE MARKETING ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS IN THE PROCESS OF STRATEGIC MARKETING DECISION MAKING

The analytical activity aims to increase company’s competitiveness and establish its strategic position in the business. Timely diagnosis of threats, identification of key success factors and competitive advantages enables company management to constantly review its marketing goals and strategies by taking proper and timely strategic marketing decisions. In this regard, the main objective of the article is to examine the characteristics and main directions of marketing analysis, emphasizing their importance in the process of strategic marketing decision making. A survey was used as a main method for collecting primary data. The evaluation of the studied indicators is performed on a 5-point Likert-type scale. The obtained results show the underestimated role of the environment analysis in the companies’ marketing activity and its necessity in decision making for a long-term development and prosperity. The conclusion includes a summary concerning the overcoming of these problems.

WIND ENERGY DEVELOPMENT IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: APPLICATION OF THE SATSA FRAMEWORK

There is a need for a framework that can be applied to wind energy developments in the sub-Saharan African (SSA) context that will facilitate technology-sustainable assessments to promote wind energy. This paper applies such a framework to potential wind energy developments in Namibia and Mozambique. In addition, the use of a system dynamics approach allows for wind turbine and power considerations to be adequately integrated into the application of the framework. The study applies the framework to both these countries to develop an outlook for potential wind energy developments. This results in the identification of key success factors.

Identification of Key Success Factors for Private Science Parks Established from Brownfield Regeneration: A Case Study from China.

Private science parks (PSPs) are infrastructure elements of national high technology industrial development zones. Increasing private capital is being invested in this field to transform abandoned factories into science parks through brownfield regeneration, which not only effectively utilizes urban space, but also greatly strengthens the power of scientific and technological innovation. The evolution of these PSPs, however, is not satisfactory, and some operation and innovation-related problems often lead to their failures. Therefore, identifying key success factors is crucial for the sustainable growth of PSPs. This study employs Fuzzy Analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and Fuzzy-DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) methods to construct an identification model for key success factors of PSPs established from brownfield regeneration. Associated influencing factors were collected through literature analysis, on-site interviews, and questionnaire, based on which key success factors were identified. The results of the study showed that five factors—resources sharing capacity of the park, park scale, financing and financial services, legal policy services and administrative capability, and construction level of facilities in the park—are the key success factors for such PSPs. The results also provide a theoretical basis for the development of PSPs established from brownfield regeneration, and support the formulation of PSP-related policies.

Key Success Factors to Increase Value Proposition in the Hospitality Industry

Purpose of this conceptual study is the identification and analysis of key success factors to increase value proposition based on design thinking of hotel executives and value co-creation with customers in the hospitality industry. Globalized dynamic markets and ever-changing customer needs and demands require ongoing experimentation and communication to steadily identify customer needs and wants in order to adjust products and services to ensure an increase of value proposition. In this research article, the two-fold role of customers and hotel executives in value co-creation processes leading to an identification of key success factors of value proposition increase is analyzed. The article emphasizes the essential role of customers as contributors to value co-creation processes and hotel executives as contributors to the creation and delivery of value proposition. Superior value proposition can be achieved by understanding actual needs and demands of customers based on design thinking and comparing them to value proposition elements that are perceived as being important by customers. Following this approach, key success factors for enhancing value proposition are analyzed.

Identification of Key Success Factors in the Marketing of Cosmetics Based on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) Analysis Using Topsis Technique (The Case of Iran)

Background: Cosmetic products are one of the most important fields of consumer market. Strategic marketing plan and creating competitive advantages through recognizing of key success factors has become as a main core competency of active firms in this area. Based on this, the aim of our study was to identify the key success factors of cosmetic products' marketing in the Iran's market. Methods: To do this, knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of consumers in Iran were evaluated and key success factors were identified based on the mix marketing theory. Deep interviews and closed-ended questionnaires were used to collect data. The randomized sample population of this study was 1200 people. Results of KAP analysis were classified in seven clusters and then Topsis technique was used to analysis each cluster. Results: Results showed that there are a significant relationship between attitude and practice and also between knowledge and practice because of t-values greater than 1.96 and path coefficient greater than 0.1. Moreover, the results indicated that the most and the least important factors for success of cosmetics' marketing are place (distribution and dispensing) and price, with sorted Cli of 0.9 and 0.1 respectively. Conclusion: It demonstrates that appropriate sales and distribution strategies, scientific and enough information and strong marketing at the point of purchase are the most important key success factors in the marketing of cosmetics, and price has a minimum drawing effect on cosmetics' marketing.

Diagnóstico e análise para a implementação do modelo PMS em uma indústria calçadista

Uma das opções que a literatura sugere para auxiliar desafios na avaliação de desempenho advém dos estudos dos sistemas de controle gerencial (SCG), que têm se mostrado um importante mecanismo para auxiliar na avaliação de desempenho dos processos de negócios. Diante desse fato, este estudo tem por objetivo analisar quais seriam as dificuldades e os possíveis benefícios que a implementação do modelo performance management systems – PMS de Ferreira e Otley (2009) poderiam oferecer para a avaliação de desempenho estratégico e operacional. Para tal, se realiza um estudo de caso em uma indústria de calçados de grande porte. Os resultados apontam que as principais dificuldades foram: identificação dos fatores chave de sucesso; identificação das medidas chave de desempenho; criação de uma política de recompensa ou sanção para os resultados. Já para os benefícios esperados, os resultados inferem que a implementação promoveria: maior integração entre a estratégia e as operações; a criação de estratégias de negócios mais consistentes; a medição correta do desempenho; e um melhor cumprimento dos objetivos traçados.

Road map for the implementation of green manufacturing practices in Indian manufacturing industries

PurposeGreen manufacturing (GM) has received growing attention in the last few years. As today’s business environment is highly competitive, dynamic and volatile in nature, GM is seen as the winning strategy to be adopted by manufacturers. In this scenario, successful implementation of GM by manufacturers can give them an edge over their competitors. The purpose of this paper is to identify and develop the structural relationship among different factors for the successful implementation of GM.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire-based survey and interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach has been applied in this study. In this research, 12 factors have been identified, such as top management commitment, supplier and materials management, green product and process design, employee training and empowerment, etc. On the basis of survey results and opinions of experts from industry and academia, a structural relationship model has been developed through an ISM approach.FindingsTop management commitment has the highest driving power for the implementation of GM. Effective implementation of GM will improve organization performance in terms of product cost and quality. For effective implementation of GM, management should not ignore development of people, product and processes.Practical implicationsThe developed model will be useful to managers, decision makers and practitioners of GM in prioritizing their resources more effectively.Originality/valueCritical success factor play a pivotal role for the assessment and implementation of GM practices. Identification of key success factors and their mutual relationship can help in implementation of GM practices in various organizations. It is probably one of the leading attempts to provide road map to the implementation of GM practices in Indian manufacturing industries.

The identification of key success factors for interstate Ro-Ro short sea shipping in Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines: a Delphi approach

This paper aims to identify key success factors for interstate roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) short sea shipping (SSS) operations in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). Although the literature has addressed a plethora of important factors, the identification of the key success factors for SSS operations is expected to inform respective stakeholders to focus their limited resources on several key determinants. The initial step in this research design involved the identification of relevant factors that have contributed towards a viable SSS operation through a literature review. However, the breath of literature on SSS outside Europe and North America, which may differ in the required variables for a successful SSS operation, is still limited. Hence, a Delphi survey has been conducted with sub-regional SSS experts to identify any new factors and assess their opinions on the relative importance of all the factors involved. This study concludes with the identification of eight key success factors peculiar to the sub-region. Due to the limited number of SSS research outside Europe and North America, this study is expected to contribute to the development of new knowledge in the realm of SSS and stimulate similar research in other corridors.

Retail touches the lives of people all over the globe, the beneficence of retail services in augmenting competencies for diverse consumer goods and services has been duly acknowledged. Retail, a traditional activity involving buying and selling of products has been reinvented with the effects of modernization, liberalization and deregulation. Retailing has emanated as a significant sector becoming much more formal and critical and has been proved to be conducive to the economic growth. With market liberalization, growing consumerism and the entry of corporate players, the Indian retail sector is currently experiencing developments at an evolutionary rate like nowhere else in the world. Services like retail need to be strengthened by identification of key success factors. The study seeks to explore the critical aspects as retail moves from traditional to modern, from single to multiple to omni-channel. It identifies the significant issues which retailers need to address to devise competitive strategies.

The identification of key success factors in sustainable cold chain management: Insights from the Indian food industry

Supply chain sustainability has emerged as an indispensable research agenda for the government, industry as well as non-profit orientation bodies. As a developing country, cold supply chain management in India is still in infancy. The demand pattern of food products has been dramatically changing since last few years. Nowadays, the customers are more conscious to use products for better health and highly expecting for food safety, toxic free and eco-friendly delivery of food products. However, sustainable cold supply chain has not yet received good heed throughout the world. Hence, in this paper an attempt has been made to address these important issues. A conceptual model was proposed in the consultation of practitioners and literature support to address the important issues in cold supply chain management for food companies. Therefore, in order to identify the key success factors for sustainable cold chain management, in this study a conceptual model developed. The proposed framework is then validated by an empirical research in the Indian food industry. This research has several alarming findings. Explicitly, in India i) environmental issues and social responsibility are not as important as other ‎economical supplier selection criteria, ii) among 19 food supplier selection criteria, the rank of social responsibility is 18‎, iii) low carbon emission is less important value addition trait as compare to ‎other sustainable cold chain value addition (which means in India the buyers focus more on their individual and prompt received ‎benefits rather than long ‎lasting advantages), iv) the use of life cycle analysis, renewable energy sources and passive cold chain are the least important ‎implemented sustainable cold chain practices (although this might be because of utilization complexities), v) the joint development of product is implemented at the lowest extent judging against other dynamic capacity ‎factors, vii) government usually backed the firms to adopt and implementing sustainability in their operations, but ‎training courses that will guide how to achieve sustainability are less as their requirement, and viii) business sustainability builds the trust among the government, suppliers, firm and all ‎stakeholders that build strong cold chain relationships.‎

Key Success Factors for City Logistics from the Perspective of Various Groups of Stakeholders

The main aims of city logistics are sustainability, mobility and quality of life by implementing various activities. There are several projects all over the world related to urban passenger and freight transport which have been implemented with success. While some cities can easily improve passenger and freight transport, the others have difficulties in these areas. One of the many solutions available for resolving this problem is to carry out a thorough analysis of the organisation in order to identify its strategic potential in the field of city logistics by use of the key success factors. The main purpose of this paper is the identification of key success factors for city logistics and their importance from the perspective of various groups of stakeholders on the basis of the authorial SLIM-PREF model. In the paper the survey results have been presented, conducted with the use of the Delphi method among experts from all over the world. The results show that the list of key success factors for city logistics should be different for various stakeholders in terms of their different expectations.

Key factors in the successful implementation of enterprise resource planning system

Article history: Received July 28, 2013 Received in revised format 20 November 2013 Accepted 4 January 2014 Available online February 12 2014 Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) are considered as the newest and most effective tools of enterprise resource planning and include an interconnected information, management and engineering system that meets all the needs of an organization. ERP implementation is costly and time-consuming and makes fundamental change in the process, if not implemented correctly it will cause challenges in most parts of the organization and will certainly fail. Therefore, the identification of key success factors in implementing ERP helps organizations avoid the loss of the project. This research aims to identify key success factors for ERP by examining 185 managers, professionals, experts of the Information and Communication Technology Institute associated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Iran. A questionnaire was used to collect data. Findings from exploratory factor analysis indicate that five factors: 1) user friendliness, flexible and consistency 2) establishment of project management; 3) alignment with user needs; 4) Management of organizational changes, and 5) observing the principles of successful implementation of ERP affect the institute and the corresponding suggestions are proposed consistent with these findings.

Performance Evaluation Index of TRM: A Korean Case for SMEs

There is the need for performance evaluation and the identification of key success factors for utilizing technology roadmaps (TRM), but relevant research does not yet exists in this field. In Korea, the Small and Medium Business Administration has implemented the "Support Program for the Individual Company Technology Roadmaps" to promote the establishment of technology development strategies by SMEs. This study developed the framework and indices for performance analysis, designed and implemented survey for TRM performance analysis, and analyzed TRM performance of the companies that have participated in the above program from 2008 to 2011. This study compared the supported 97 companies and 102 companies not supported and analyzed quantitative and qualitative performance and satisfaction levels among the supported companies to compare low-performance companies and high-performance companies. This study aims to examine the KSF of TRM in terms of input and process. Also we suggested significant insights into the performance of TRM in terms of output.

Identification of key success factors of functional dairy foods product development

The present study elucidates key success factors influencing the product development of functional dairy foods and examines if the studied products can be categorized as potential breakthrough products primarily in a domestic market. General conclusions are also made with reference to functional foods development in the international setting. Three functional dairy foods were studied with specific emphasis on the key success factors influencing length and timing of individual product development phases on the total length of product development. Key factors which were identified as being the most critical were (1) the specificity and action mechanism of the added health benefit of the final product, (2) the range of new product or process alternatives, (3) the selection of the consumer target group and, (4) legal and marketing issues.
