Hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides by the mixture of palladium(II) and a newly synthesized chiral macrocyclic bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligand

A novel macrocyclic bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) precursor was designed and prepared, which manifested high catalytic efficiency when combining Pd(OAc)2 in hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides. The generation of a little amount of the intermediate product chlorobenzene is closely related with the synergistic effect of two imidazoline protons lying on the two opposite sides of the macrocycle.

Assessing Carbazole Derivatives as Single-Electron Photoreductants.

The electron-donating capabilities of carbazoles have stimulated interest in their use as photoinduced single-electron reductants. Due to the modularity of the carbazole, a further broadening and understanding of their reactivity could be achieved by manipulating the structure. Herein, eight carbazole derivatives were synthesized, characterized, and assessed as single-electron photoreductants in the hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides and the arylation of N-methylpyrrole.

Reduced Phenalenyl in Catalytic Dehalogenative Deuteration and Hydrodehalogenation of Aryl Halides.

Dehalogenative deuteration reactions are generally performed through metal-mediated processes. This report demonstrates a mild protocol for hydrodehalogenation and dehalogenative deuteration of aryl/heteroaryl halides (39 examples) using a reduced odd alternant hydrocarbon phenalenyl under transition metal-free conditions and has been employed successfully for the incorporation of deuterium in various biologically active compounds. The combined approach of experimental and theoretical studies revealed a single electron transfer-based mechanism.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) promoted hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides

Transition-metal-free hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides (eg. bromides) can take place efficiently in the presence of green polyethylene glycol (PEG-800) and t-BuOK without adding any extra solvents and additives. A radical mechanism is proposed for this transition-metal-free dehalogenation of aryl halides and the role of polyethylene glycol is both reaction promotor and activated alkyl CH donor.

Polymer-bound palladium catalyst was prepared as PdO nanoparticles bound on the surface of polystyrene beads. This catalytic system showed good activities in the reduction of nitro arenes and the hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides. When the nitro arenes were reacted with 10 mol% PdO and K3PO4 (1.5 equiv.) in DMF/cyclohexanol at 110 °C, the corresponding amino arenes were formed in good yields. In addition, these reaction conditions afforded hydrodehalogenated products from aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides.

ChemInform Abstract: Palladium‐Catalyzed Hydrodehalogenation of Aryl Halides Using Paraformaldehyde as the Hydride Source: High‐Throughput Screening by Paper‐Based Colorimetric Iodide Sensor.

Abstract Paraformaldehyde was employed as a hydride source in the palladium-catalyzed hydrodehalogenation of aryl iodides and bromides. High throughput screening using a paper-based colorimetric iodide sensor (PBCIS) showed that Pd(OAc)2 and Cs2CO3 were the best catalyst and base, respectively. Aryl iodides and bromides were hydrodehalogenated to produce the reduced arenes using Pd(OAc)2 and Pd(PPh3)4 catalyst. This catalytic system showed good functional group tolerance. In addition, it was found that paraformaldehyde is the hydride source and the reducing agent for the formation of palladium nanoparticles.

Palladium anchored on MCM-41 was used for hydrodehalogenation of aryl halides by molecular hydrogen at atmospheric pressure. The catalyst was reused for several cycles with consistent activity.
