Exploring factors influencing awareness and knowledge of human papillomavirus in Chinese college students: A cross-sectional study

ABSTRACT Cervical cancer remains a significant health burden in China, characterized by high incidence and mortality rates, which are exacerbated by low Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage, leading to substantial loss of productivity, emotional suffering, and family strain. Understanding factors that influence HPV awareness and knowledge is crucial for developing effective educational strategies. This cross-sectional study, conducted from September to October 2022, involved 2,679 college students from various educational institutions in Jiangsu Province, China. Data were collected via an online questionnaire covering demographics, HPV knowledge, and vaccination behaviors. Statistical analyses, including Chi-square tests and multifactorial logistic regression, were used to identify factors influencing HPV knowledge. The study revealed that while over 90% of students correctly identified HPV’s transmission and risks, significant knowledge gaps and misconceptions persist, particularly regarding HPV’s association with HIV/AIDS and its treatment. Factors significantly associated with better HPV knowledge included age (22–24 years), female gender, being a medical major, being in a relationship, familiarity with HPV, and participation in sexual education programs. Despite a high willingness to receive the HPV vaccine (91.64%), actual vaccination rates remained low. These findings suggest that while Chinese college students were generally aware of HPV, targeted educational interventions are essential to address knowledge gaps and promote HPV vaccination effectively.

Effect of vaccine hesitancy on female college students’ willingness to receive the HPV vaccine in China: a multicenter cross-sectional study

ObjectiveTo analyse the influencing factors of vaccine hesitancy on HPV vaccination willingness of female college students in order to promote the promotion of HPV vaccine in female college student population.MethodsFrom September-October 2022, a convenience sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among freshman female students from four higher vocational colleges in Henan Province, China. The survey comprised a general information questionnaire, as well as inquiries regarding vaccine hesitancy and willingness to receive the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. In PSM analyses, vaccine-hesitant students were matched with non-vaccine-hesitant students at a 1:1 ratio; subsequently, both univariate and multivariatble logistic regression analyses were applied to assess the impact of vaccine hesitancy on female university students’ willingness to receive the HPV vaccine.ResultsThe results revealed a vaccine hesitancy rate of 44.75% among female university students, with 82.9% expressing willingness to receive the HPV vaccine. The results of the multivariable ordinal logistic regression analysis indicated vaccine hesitancy is a risk factor for HPV vaccination intentions among female university students [OR = 4.38, 95% CI (2.74, 6.99), P < 0.001]. Furthermore, the field of study (P = 0.01) and independently seeking information about the HPV vaccine (P = 0.04) were identified as factors influencing female university students’ willingness to receive the HPV vaccine.ConclusionsNon-vaccine-hesitant students were more likely to be willing to receive the HPV vaccine than vaccine-hesitant students. Healthcare providers and educators should focus on vaccine attitudes among female college students to reduce vaccine hesitancy and enhance community education on cervical cancer, HPV infection and prevention through multichannel campaigns.

Cross-sectional study of pharmacists’ knowledge and beliefs about human papillomavirus, its vaccines, and barriers related to vaccine administration

Abstract Background The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is not currently included in the national immunization program in Jordan. The rising prevalence of cervical cancer in Jordan highlights the necessity for a novel approach to boost HPV vaccination rates. Thus, the main objective of this study was to assess the knowledge, beliefs, and potential barriers concerning HPV and HPV vaccine administration in community pharmacies. Methods This cross-sectional study, conducted in Jordan between July and September 2023, involved community pharmacists. Using a convenience sampling approach, one author visited various community pharmacies to distribute and collect questionnaires. A total knowledge score, out of a possible 10 points, and a belief score out of 40 were calculated for each pharmacists. Additionally, the study examined factors that may influence participants’ knowledge and belief levels. Results A total of 302 community pharmacists took part in the survey, with approximately two-thirds of the participants being female (n = 230, 76.2%). The average knowledge score about HPV was 2.7 out of 10 (standard deviation [SD] = 1.8), and linear regression analysis indicated no significant relationship between pharmacists’ knowledge about HPV and the factors studied, such as age, gender, area of pharmacy, and the acquired degree. In terms of beliefs, findings revealed that 63.2% supported an expanded role for community pharmacists in HPV vaccination. Three main barriers were identified: lack of parental knowledge (n = 218, 72.2%), insufficient educational materials for parents (n = 206, 68.2%), and inadequate provider knowledge (n = 201, 66.6%). Conclusions In summary, this study provides valuable insights into the knowledge, beliefs, and challenges surrounding HPV and HPV vaccination among community pharmacists in Jordan. To enhance the involvement of community pharmacists in promoting HPV vaccination and aiding in the prevention of HPV-related illnesses, it is crucial to address the identified knowledge gaps and obstacles.

Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of an Intervention to Promote HPV Uptake Among Young Women Who Attend Subsidized Clinics

ObjectiveTo evaluate the preliminary efficacy, acceptability, and feasibility of Step Up to Prevention, a technology-enhanced intervention to promote human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination uptake among young minority and low-income women. DesignA pilot randomized controlled trial. SettingTwo federally supported outpatient clinics in a large city in the northeastern United States. ParticipantsWomen who were 18 to 26 years of age (N = 60). MethodsWe randomized participants into four groups: computer information, in-person tailored, combined, and usual care. We administered computer-assisted self-interview surveys before the intervention (baseline), immediately after the intervention (postintervention), and after their clinic visit (post–clinic visit). We conducted a descriptive analysis of participant characteristics. For preliminary efficacy, we used logistic regression–assessed HPV vaccine initiation uptake rates, and we used descriptive statistics to compare theoretical mediators. We used conventional content analysis to assess participant feedback about intervention acceptability. We assessed feasibility through recruitment and retention rates and our ability to deliver the intervention. ResultsWe observed significant differences in initial HPV vaccine uptake between the intervention groups and the usual care group. Participant feedback indicated that the intervention was acceptable, empowering, and informative. We met our recruitment target, maintained a high retention rate (98%), and delivered the complete intervention to all participants. ConclusionWe report the preliminary efficacy, acceptability, and feasibility of this intervention to promote HPV vaccine initiation among young women in federally subsided health care settings by advancing favorable views and improving knowledge about HPV vaccination.

Improving HPV Vaccination Uptake Among Adolescents in Low Resource Settings: Sociocultural and Socioeconomic Barriers and Facilitators.

Lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are disproportionately impacted by human papillomavirus (HPV) and would benefit from implementing the HPV vaccine. In the context of competing health priorities, utilizing scarce domestic infrastructure and human resources for HPV vaccination remains challenging for many LMICs. Given the high benefits of the HPV vaccine, the World Health Organization (WHO) is now encouraging for all countries, particularly LMICs, to introduce HPV vaccines into their routine immunization programs. Understanding the barriers and facilitators to HPV adolescent vaccine programs in LMICs may help strengthen how LMICs implement HPV vaccine programs, in turn, increasing HPV vaccine acceptance, uptake, and coverage. To identify and assess barriers and facilitators to implementing adolescent HPV vaccination programs in LMICs. This study comprised a review of literature assessing adolescent HPV vaccination in LMICs published after 2020 from a sociocultural perspective. Overall, the findings showed that LMICs should prioritize increasing HPV vaccine availability and HPV vaccine knowledge, particularly focusing on cancer prevention, as knowledge reduces misinformation and increases vaccine acceptance. Evidence suggests that factors promoting HPV vaccine uptake include fostering low vaccine hesitancy, integrating HPV vaccination as a primary school routine vaccination, and vaccinating both genders. A one-dose HPV vaccine may enable many LMICs to increase vaccine acceptance, uptake, and coverage while controlling financial, infrastructure, and human resource costs. As HPV is one of the leading causes of death in many LMICs, implementing the HPV vaccine may be highly beneficial. Cohesive national HPV vaccine buy-in and understanding the success and challenges of prior LMIC HPV vaccine implementation is crucial to developing effective, efficient, and sustainable HPV vaccination programs.

Content validation of a Facebook HPV vaccination promotion intervention (#HPVvaxtalks) created for young Black adults (18-26 years old).

Despite the expansion in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination recommendations, vaccine uptake and completion remain low among Black individuals. An 8-week Facebook intervention (#HPVvaxtalks) was developed to increase knowledge and awareness of HPV risk factors, risk perceptions, and vaccination intention and uptake. This article details the formative phase of experts' feedback and participants' satisfaction on the components of the #HPVvaxtalks for content useability, acceptability, relevance, and visual appeal to inform further refinements. A convenience sample of 5 experts and 13 young Black adults were invited to provide feedback on #HPVvaxtalks intervention content. The experts reviewed and provided feedback via a survey and open-ended questions. After incorporating suggestions from experts' feedback, 13 participants viewed #HPVvaxtalks posts, took part in a virtual focus group, and completed a survey. Qualitative data were thematically analyzed and integrated with survey results. Experts and participants mean age were 41.9±2.3 and 21.2±1.9 years, respectively. Experts and participants reported positive ratings for intervention posts, including useability, acceptability, relevance, and visual appeal. Data provided areas for improvements of #HPVvaxtalks. CONCLUSION: Experts indicated strong content validity and participants showed satisfaction with #HPVvaxtalks content. Ensuring acceptability, relevance, and appeal of the intervention for the target population is an integral part of intervention development.

Building Knowledge Using a Novel Web-Based Intervention to Promote HPV Vaccination in a Diverse, Low-Income Population

(Abstracted from Gynecol Oncol 2024;181:102–109) Significant racial and socioeconomic disparities exist in the incidence, morbidity, and mortality from cervical cancer within the United States and worldwide. Greater than 90% of cervical cancer cases are attributable to human papillomavirus (HPV), and evidence suggests an approximately 90% reduction in cervical cancer incidence among HPV-vaccinated individuals.

Retrospective study of a pilot program focused on educating dental patients on human papillomavirus and vaccination in a hospital setting.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is an epidemic currently affecting 80 million people in the United States. The HPV virus can be passed from one person to another via sexual intercourse, oral sex, open mouth kissing and skin-to-skin contact. In some cases, the infection is not eliminated by the immune system and can cause cancer of the head and neck, cervix, anus, and genitals. There has been a rise in oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) associated with HPV, which can be missed on conventional dental screening examinations. Dentists should engage in promoting HPV vaccination as a primary measure for OPC prevention. The goal of this HPV pilot program was to educate and offer same day HPV vaccination to dental patients by using a multidisciplinary approach in a hospital setting. Patients 18 through 26 years of age who presented to the Erie County Medical Center's dental clinic were approached and educated on HPV. Eligible patients received a direct recommendation for the HPV vaccine. Those interested in same day vaccination were referred to the division of infectious diseases' YOU Center for Wellness. A retrospective chart review was completed for patients who were HPV educated from March 5, 2020, through December 15, 2021. Charts were evaluated for age, sex, race, ethnicity, reason for visit, HPV vaccine referral, and HPV vaccine administration. 326 patients were included in the chart review. The prominent sex, race, and ethnicity were male, Black or African American, and non-Hispanic origin. The median age was 23. Most patients presented to the dental clinic for an emergency visit and were not previously vaccinated against HPV. 110 patients were unvaccinated, and 44 patients were referred to the division of infectious disease for same day vaccination. Of these 44, 24 patients initiated the vaccination process. Five patients received all three doses, three patients received two doses, and 16 patients received one dose. This pilot program successfully vaccinated 24 patients with at least a single dose of the HPV vaccine. This multidisciplinary model can be implemented in other health care settings.

"I'm Torn": Qualitative Analysis of Dental Practitioner-Perceived Barriers, Facilitators, and Solutions to HPV Vaccine Promotion.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine can prevent HPV-related oropharyngeal cancers. Dental practitioners are uniquely positioned to promote HPV vaccines during routine dental care but experience barriers to doing so. Qualitative interviews were conducted with dental practitioners to understand barriers and inform intervention strategies to promote HPV vaccines. Dental practitioners were invited to participate in phone interviews about knowledge, self-efficacy, and the fear of negative consequences related to HPV vaccine promotion as well as feedback on potential interventions to address these barriers. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using rapid qualitative analysis with a sort-and-sift matrix approach. Interviews were completed with 11 practitioners from six dental clinics (avg. 31 min). Though most thought HPV vaccination was important, they lacked detailed knowledge about when and to whom the vaccine should be recommended. This led to a hypothesized need for discussions of sexual history, feelings of limited self-efficacy to make the recommendation, and fear of patient concerns. Still, practitioners were supportive of additional training opportunities and provided input into specific interventions. The nuance of how these barriers were described by practitioners, as well as the possible solutions they identified, will help shape future interventions supporting HPV vaccine promotion in dental care.

Parents' perspectives on dental team as advisors to promote HPV vaccination among Spanish adolescents.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a prevalent sexually transmitted infection responsible for many anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. Dental care providers have the potential to influence vaccine uptake, yet little is known about how patients perceive their role in HPV education and prevention. Parents of adolescents aged 9 to 17 years (n = 375) were recruited from Valdeorras District Hospital (Galicia, Spain) to investigate parents' attitudes concerning the involvement of dental care providers in discussions related to HPV. A survey was distributed to the participants, and 343 (91.5%) were included in the analysis. In general, nearly half of the parents reported feeling comfortable regarding discussing HPV with their dentist. Participants described more comfort with dentists than with dental hygienists. Parents' comfort levels were influenced by various social determinants of health, including education level, marital status, geographic origin, and child vaccination status (p > 0.05). Parents reported varying comfort levels when discussing HPV and its vaccine with dental professionals, displaying a preference for dentists. Dental settings have the potential to promote vaccination, but the existence of ongoing barriers needs to be addressed.

HPV vaccination among eligible HIV-positive adults: a best practice implementation project.

The aim of this best practice implementation project was to promote evidence-based practices (EBPs) for human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination among eligible HIV-positive patients. HPV-induced cancers are largely preventable by prophylactic vaccination of HPV-naïve individuals. Immunosuppression in HIV-positive patients prevents clearance of HPV, which increases the risk of developing cancer. Health care agencies caring for individuals living with HIV must implement interventions to enhance uptake of HPV vaccination. This project was guided by the JBI Model of Evidence-Based Healthcare and JBI's Getting Research into Practice (GRiP) tool. A baseline audit was conducted to assess current practice against EBPs and to identify areas for improvement. A follow-up audit was used post-implementation to determine whether compliance with EBPs improved. The baseline audit revealed an average compliance rate of 46% with the two EBPs for increasing vaccination uptake. Three barriers to compliance were identified and strategies were implemented to address these barriers. The follow-up audit revealed 71% average compliance with the EBPs, a 25% increase from baseline. Interventions aimed at promoting HPV vaccination among HIV-positive individuals can reduce the risk of specific cancers. This project revealed an increase in compliance with EBPs for HPV vaccination for eligible HIV-positive patients when a vaccination reminder and recall system was placed in a frequently visited section of the electronic health record. However, a more sustainable solution would be to collaborate with the information technology staff to ensure that the health maintenance section in the electronic health record is configured correctly.

Engagement with and persuasiveness of HPV vaccination promotion videos: an examination of narrative engagement theory

ABSTRACT The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States (CDC, 2023). Although a vaccine for HPV exists, the vaccination rate in young adults is still staggeringly low. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to use Narrative Engagement Theory (NET; Miller- Day & Hecht, 2013) to examine what HPV videos young adults find most engaging and persuasive. Participants were 992 college students from a large Southwestern University who watched ten HPV videos designed to inform young adults about HPV. After each video, participants responded to questions that assessed engagement and persuasiveness and were provided space to write as much as they liked to elaborate on their answers. The results suggest that certain videos may be more effective in persuading young adults to receive the HPV vaccination.

Acceptance of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine among General Men and Men with a Same-Sex Orientation and Its Influencing Factors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine reduces the prevalence of genital warts and the cancers they are associated with in males. However, the vaccination of males has always been neglected. Here, we performed a meta-analysis to comprehend the acceptability of the HPV vaccine in men and the factors impacting vaccination intentions. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Ovid, CNKI, and Wan Fang up to 5 July 2023 for studies that reported HPV vaccine acceptance among men. A random effects model was used to obtain the pooled acceptance rate, and subgroup analysis was performed. Then, the influencing factors of HPV vaccination in males were analyzed. A total of 57 studies with 32,962 samples were included in the analysis. The overall acceptance rate of the HPV vaccine in general men was 47.04% (95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 39.23-54.93%), and 62.23% (95% CI: 52.93-71.10%) among those whose sexual orientation contained men. HPV vaccine acceptance rates differed significantly between the two populations (p = 0.01). The population with a medical background (46.23%, 95% CI: 40.28-52.24%) was more willing to be vaccinated. In comparison to the employed population (66.93%, 95% CI: 48.79-82.81%) and the unemployed (68.44%, 95% CI: 52.82-82.23%), vaccination acceptance rates were lower among students (47.35%, 95% CI: 37.00-57.81%) (p = 0.04). The most significant barriers to vaccination were perceived low risk of infection for themselves (45.91%, 95% CI: 31.73-60.43%), followed by vaccine cost (43.46%, 95% CI: 31.20-56.13%). Moreover, the recommendations from medical professionals (60.90%, 95%CI: 44.23-76.37%) and sexual partners (60.09%, 95%CI: 27.11-88.67%) were significant factors in promoting vaccination. Overall, acceptance of the HPV vaccine among general men was at a lower level, despite being slightly higher among men with a same-sex orientation. Popularizing knowledge about diseases and vaccines, encouraging medical professionals to recommend vaccines to men, or reducing the cost of vaccines may promote HPV vaccination.

Engagement With a Youth Community Advisory Board to Develop and Refine a Facebook HPV Vaccination Promotion Intervention (#HPVvaxtalks) for Young Black Adults (18-26 years old).

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates remain suboptimal among young Black adults (18-26 years). Research focused on HPV vaccination among young Black adults is limited. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, we developed #HPVvaxtalks, a theoretically grounded and culturally appropriate Facebook intervention in collaboration with a youth community advisory board (YCAB) to increase awareness of HPV risk factors, risk perception, HPV vaccine-related knowledge, vaccination intention, and uptake for Black individuals. Engagement with YCAB members fostered opportunity to discuss priorities reflecting the community's interest and make #HPVvaxtalks more relevant. This article describes the YCAB engagement and collaborative process in the development and refinement of posts/messages for #HPVvaxtalks. Five young Black adults (18-26 years of age) were invited to become members of a YCAB. YCAB reviewed the preliminary version of #HPVvaxtalks intervention materials and provided critiques and suggestions for refinement. Following the completion of the collaborative process, YCAB members completed individual interviews to reflect on the process. Feedback from YCAB participants focused on the relevance, engagement, clarity, and organization of the content and the media utilized. Participants suggested using "memes" to improve cultural relevance and engagement for young Black individuals. All YCAB members expressed satisfaction with the development process. Collaboration with a YCAB was crucial in developing a culturally relevant and acceptable #HPVvaxtalks intervention, which includes 40 messages/posts for young Black adults. Undergoing the iterative process of intervention development and refinement with the priority population can be an essential component in the design and implementation of health promotion activities.

Abstract A028: Development of multisectoral partnerships in the quest to target effective HPV vaccination strategies in Puerto Rico

Abstract Introduction: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. HPV accounts for 79% of related cancers in the United States (US). Puerto Rico has the highest incidence (12.1) of cervical cancer among the US and territories, for which HPV infections cause 91%. The Puerto Rico Community Cancer Control Outreach Program (PRCCCOP) and our long-term partner, UTHealth, have developed HPV vaccination educational materials tailored to be used by clinical and public health workers or as a standalone. Since 2019, PRCCCOP has been promoting HPV vaccine to prevent related cancers. Objective: To develop a network of multisectoral collaborators to facilitate the dissemination of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevention educational campaigns and HPV vaccination uptake in Puerto Rico (PR). Methods: From 2019 to March 2023, the Puerto Rico Community Cancer Control Outreach Program (PRCCCOP) has established a network of islandwide collaborators, which has developed alliances for the participation of several community activities in which our educational materials have been distributed. Collaborators were offered workshops on HPV, HPV- prevention, and the HPV vaccine, received educational materials, and continued assistance in their community activities. The collaborators were categorized by the type of organization or services they offered. Results: A descriptive assessment of collaborators was documented and categorized into 5 groups. A total of 44 new collaborations have been established, (1) academic (11.3%), (2) health services/FQHCs (36.5%), (3) community-based (7%), (4) private sector (25%), and (5) government (20.4%). Our team has participated in 129 community events in 39 (50%) municipalities. Moreover, our HPV educational campaigns have been distributed in 54 (69.2%) municipalities, including Vieques and Culebra Island municipalities. Conclusion: The PRCCCOP has effectively expanded its reach by developing partnerships with diverse organizations across PR. Most activities are from FQHCs, allowing us to reach the most vulnerable populations effectively. These partnerships helped increase the visibility of the program and the availability of our workshops and educational materials to different organizations in Puerto Rico. By establishing these collaborations, we aim to increase knowledge, raise awareness about HPV prevention, and increase vaccination uptake to eradicate HPV-caused cancers. Abstract PR008: Human papillomavirus vaccination knowledge, health beliefs, recommendation receipt, and intentions among unvaccinated Spanish-speaking young adult Hispanic/Latino sexual minority men

Abstract Sexual minority men are at increased risk for human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and subsequent HPV-related health concerns, including anal cancer. HPV vaccination remains an underutilized prevention strategy among sexual minority men, including Hispanic/Latino (H/L) individuals. As part of a mixed methods project, we conducted a cross-sectional survey among Spanish-speaking H/L sexual minority men ages 18-26 to characterize awareness, knowledge, health beliefs, provider recommendation, and HPV vaccine intentions. Multiple in-person and social media strategies were used to recruit participants who self-identified as having had sex with a man and/or being attracted to men and were of H/L ethnicity; able to read, write, and understand Spanish; aged 18-26 years; living in either Florida or Puerto Rico; and with internet access. Data were collected between August 2021-August 2022 using an online survey. Following data cleaning, descriptive analyses using SAS focused on unvaccinated participants (n=102). Results indicated that most participants (86%) were living in Puerto Rico and self-identified as gay (84%). Fifty-six percent reported having heard of the HPV vaccine. Only 19% reported having received a provider recommendation for the HPV vaccine, and less than one-quarter (21%) reported strongly agreeing that people important to them would want them to receive the HPV vaccine. Most individuals (69%) correctly identified that HPV can cause genital warts. However, over half responded either incorrectly or ”do not know” to questions regarding the link between HPV and anal (54%), oral (61%), or penile (65%) cancers. Over half of participants (56%) responded incorrectly or “do not know” to an item about whether most sexually active individuals are at risk for being infected with HPV. Twenty percent responded incorrectly or “do not know” to an item assessing whether men can be infected with HPV. Regarding comparative risk, 28% reported believing themselves to be at average risk for HPV compared to people their age, whereas 14% and 27% reported being at below average risk and at much below average risk, respectively. Most participants (56%) reported they were either not at all or only a little concerned with the safety of the HPV vaccine; however, 25% responded they were very or extremely concerned. Participants reported positive attitudes toward the efficacy of the HPV vaccine in preventing genital warts, penile cancer, and anal cancer. Further, the majority (69%) indicated strongly agreeing or agreeing with an item that assessed their perceived ability to make an appointment to receive the HPV vaccine. Regarding intentions, only 12% reported being very likely to receive the HPV vaccine in the next year, whereas 30% reported being very likely to receive the vaccine at some point in the future. Findings suggest numerous potential malleable targets for future interventions to promote HPV vaccination among H/L young adult sexual minority men, including prompting provider recommendations and addressing patient education needs and health beliefs. Abstract A036: The role of multisectoral partnerships in the dissemination of HPV vaccination campaigns in Puerto Rico

Abstract INTRODUCTION: The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Despite the availability of an effective vaccine, HPV vaccination uptake is suboptimal in Puerto Rico (PR). Knowledge and understanding of the benefits of HPV vaccination can influence the intention to vaccinate. The Puerto Rico Community Cancer Control Outreach Program (PRCCCOP) and our network of multisectoral partners disseminated an HPV vaccination educational campaign tailored to promote HPV vaccination among kids and adolescents aged 9-26. OBJECTIVE: To effectively disseminate Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevention educational campaigns through a network of multisectoral collaborators to increase HPV vaccination uptake in PR. METHODS: The PRCCCOP trained collaborators on basic HPV, HPV-caused cancers, and HPV vaccine knowledge and the use of educational materials. Collaborators distributed educational materials to their clientele who visited in person, participated in sponsored events, and accessed their virtual platforms or via email. In addition to printable educational materials, PRCCOP public service announcement videos about HPV vaccination were transmitted at our participating Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). The PRCCOP provided all collaborators with continued training, assistance, and educational materials. RESULTS: Our program impacted 65 municipalities (83.3% of the island). Electronic and printed versions of our educational materials were disseminated in 40 clinics and vaccination centers across the island, including all 22 FQHCs in Puerto Rico (PR). Over 2,000 people were reached via in-person events and health fairs. Additionally, 18 workshops were imparted in clinical and academic settings. CONCLUSION: Community outreach can be an expensive and labor-intensive task. By establishing partnerships and sharing resources, the PRCCCOP has lowered costs while widely disseminating its educational campaigns and expanding its network outside the traditional academic/health services arena. Collaborating with multisectoral organizations allowed us to increase our presence throughout the island, diversify the types of dissemination mediums, and reach vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. Prevalence and Predictive Factors of Cervical Cancer Screening in Saudi Arabia: A Nationwide Study.

Cervical cancer, despite being preventable, is one of the most prevalent cancers among females globally and in Saudi Arabia. The literature demonstrated that, unlike global trends, cervical cancer incidence in Saudi Arabia is increasing. In addition to that, a high proportion of it is discovered in advanced stages. This state of late discovery was attributed to the absence of efficient preventive and screening programs. Observing the scale of the preventable morbidities and mortalities that can be caused by cervical cancer and the efforts and costs that are positioned to fight cervical cancer across the globe and the current ambiguity in the cervical cancer screening prevalence in Saudi Arabia brings the realization of the importance of conducting a study that properly explores the status of cervical cancer screening in Saudi Arabia. This study aims to measure the prevalence and the predictive factors for cervical cancer screening among adult women who were previously sexually active in Saudi Arabia, as well as explore the participants' knowledge and attitude toward cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. This study was a nationwide cross-sectional study conducted in Saudi Arabia between September 2023 and November 2023 on adult Saudi females between the ages of 21 and 65 years who were previously sexually active and did not undergo a hysterectomy. Data were collected through a convenience sampling technique where a self-administered survey was established and disseminated to the targeted population all over the country with the assistance of data collectors. Cervical cancer screening prevalence and screening predictive factors were measured. Factors associated with cervical cancer screening and knowledge of cervical cancer were tested using a chi-square test, an independent t-test, and an ANOVA test. Multivariate logistic regression was also used to determine predictors of cervical cancer screening. The study included 2,337 participants. The prevalence of cervical cancer screening among Saudi females was observed to be 22.1%. The most commonly reported reason for not undergoing cervical cancer screening was that it was never recommended by a physician, as reported by 42.4%. Only 7.6% reported taking the HPV vaccine. The majority of the participants (84.1%) had a low knowledge level about cervical cancer. The multivariate logistic regression model revealed that the following factors were observed to be significantly predictive of undergoing cervical cancer screening: being 46-59 years of age (74% increase rate), having an income greater than 20,000 Saudi Riyals (SRs) (158% increase rate), having a history of gynecological problems (152% increase rate), knowing someone who underwent cervical cancer screening (393% increase rate), and receiving a recommendation from a healthcare practitioner to undergo cervical cancer screening (1300% increase rate). There are clearly low rates of cervical cancer screening and even lower rates of uptake for the HPV vaccine, which are the prevention measures for cervical cancer. National initiatives and programs that promote HPV vaccine uptake and regular cervical cancer screening are highly recommended to minimize the morbidity and mortality of cervical cancer.

Digital Personal Health Coaching Platform for Promoting Human Papillomavirus Infection Vaccinations and Cancer Prevention: Knowledge Graph-Based Recommendation System.

Health promotion can empower populations to gain more control over their well-being by using digital interventions that focus on preventing the root causes of diseases. Digital platforms for personalized health coaching can improve health literacy and information-seeking behavior, leading to better health outcomes. Personal health records have been designed to enhance patients' self-management of a disease or condition. Existing personal health records have been mostly designed and deployed as a supplementary service that acts as views into electronic health records. We aim to overcome some of the limitations of electronic health records. This study aims to design and develop a personal health library (PHL) that generates personalized recommendations for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine promotion and cancer prevention. We have designed a proof-of-concept prototype of the Digital Personal Health Librarian, which leverages machine learning; natural language processing; and several innovative technological infrastructures, including the Semantic Web, social linked data, web application programming interfaces, and hypermedia-based discovery, to generate a personal health knowledge graph. We have designed and implemented a proof-of-the-concept prototype to showcase and demonstrate how the PHL can be used to store an individual's health data, for example, a personal health knowledge graph. This is integrated with web-scale knowledge to support HPV vaccine promotion and prevent HPV-associated cancers among adolescents and their caregivers. We also demonstrated how the Digital Personal Health Librarian uses the PHL to provide evidence-based insights and knowledge-driven explanations that are personalized and inform health decision-making. Digital platforms such as the PHL can be instrumental in improving precision health promotion and education strategies that address population-specific needs (ie, health literacy, digital competency, and language barriers) and empower individuals by facilitating knowledge acquisition to make healthy choices.
