DESIGN CONTROL AND MONITORING SYSTEM FOR BOILER WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS USING PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER AND HMI (HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE)

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is one of the infrastructures and systems in the manufacturing industry. This system serves to treat wastewater coming from boiler machines, which are used to produce steam to support the tire and tube production process of manufacturing companies, which are the object of our research. Wastewater from this boiler machine is alkaline and contains solids that are harmful to the ecosystem and the environment, so it needs to be processed so that wastewater can be discharged into drains. The process is not by following the standards; it can affect the quality of the process water so that water that is discharged into drains or water bodies violates government regulations. In this case, the pH standard of water is in a neutral state whose values are between 6 and 9 and is clear in color. Therefore, we conducted research that is designing a system to control and monitor the process at the wastewater treatment plant automatically. The design of this control system is done by adding sensors and actuators that are connected to the modular PLC that is the control system. This system is also designed to be connected to a PC (Personal Computer) as a monitoring system so that the process can be monitored continuously. Display interface created using HMI (Human Machine Interface) software. This is because many features that allow for a more attractive appearance. With this system, it can be sure that the boiler wastewater treatment process is more consistent and efficient in maintaining pH standards, and the process is monitored in real-time.

Filtering Continuous River Surface Velocity Radar Data

In this study, the prediction interval method was used in simple regression models to filter continuous river surface velocity microwave radar data. To evaluate the model performance, two data sets from monitoring stations with mild and steep channel slopes were used. A human–machine interface software program developed in LabVIEW was used to sample data from big continuous data for establishing the relationships between surface velocity and water level, two surface velocities, and their prediction intervals. Filtering by coupled relationships detected the most noise in the surface velocity and the original data, and the results for different cases were compared. The results were also compared with widely used modern smoothing methods. It was found that raw data cannot always be post–processed using these smoothing methods. Moreover, peaks become distorted. This study provides a method for filtering noise signals in continuous river surface velocity data without data contamination, which makes the surface velocity data more reliable and applicable for advanced studies, such as machine learning applications, and can be applied for the quality control of surface velocity data in the future.

HMI Engineering Software Automation in UHVDC Transmission Project of Design and Implementation

Considering the characteristics of UHVDC(Ultra High Voltage Direct Current) transmission in HMI (Human Machine Interface), this paper discusses the engineering design plan of HMI software for UHVDC transmission project in detail. Especially speaking, this paper focuses on how to carry out robotics solutions which include automatic interface generation, auto correlation between the interface and database data, and the function of system error correction, etc. Finally, an engineering solution based on data driven project is presented for the future domains of DC transmission HMI.

Design of a Single-Cell Positioning Controller Using Electroosmotic Flow and Image Processing

The objective of the current research was not only to provide a fast and automatic positioning platform for single cells, but also improved biomolecular manipulation techniques. In this study, an automatic platform for cell positioning using electroosmotic flow and image processing technology was designed. The platform was developed using a PCI image acquisition interface card for capturing images from a microscope and then transferring them to a computer using human-machine interface software. This software was designed by the Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench, a graphical language for finding cell positions and viewing the driving trace, and the fuzzy logic method for controlling the voltage or time of an electric field. After experiments on real human leukemic cells (U-937), the success of the cell positioning rate achieved by controlling the voltage factor reaches 100% within 5 s. A greater precision is obtained when controlling the time factor, whereby the success rate reaches 100% within 28 s. Advantages in both high speed and high precision are attained if these two voltage and time control methods are combined. The control speed with the combined method is about 5.18 times greater than that achieved by the time method, and the control precision with the combined method is more than five times greater than that achieved by the voltage method.

Evaluating ITER remote handling middleware concepts

Remote maintenance activities in ITER will be performed by a unique set of hardware systems, supported by an extensive software kit. A layer of middleware will manage and control a complex set of interconnections between teams of operators, hardware devices in various operating theatres, and databases managing tool and task logistics. The middleware is driven by constraints on amounts and timing of data like real-time control loops, camera images, and database access.The Remote Handling Study Centre (RHSC), located at FOM institute DIFFER, has a 4-operator work cell in an ITER relevant RH Control Room setup which connects to a virtual hot cell back-end. The centre is developing and testing flexible integration of the Control Room components, resulting in proof-of-concept tests of this middleware layer. SW components studied include generic human-machine interface software, a prototype of a RH operations management system, and a distributed virtual reality system supporting multi-screen, multi-actor, and multiple independent views. Real-time rigid body dynamics and contact interaction simulation software supports simulation of structural deformation, “augmented reality” operations and operator training.The paper presents generic requirements and conceptual design of middleware components and Operations Management System in the context of a RH Control Room work cell. The simulation software is analyzed for real-time performance and it is argued that it is critical for middleware to have complete control over the physical network to be able to guarantee bandwidth and latency to the components.

Discovering vulnerabilities in control system human–machine interface software

As educators plan for curriculum enhancement and modifications to address the net-generation of software engineers, it will be important to communicate the necessity of considering software security engineering as applications are net-enabled. This paper presents a case study where commonly accepted software security engineering principles that have been published and employed for approximately 30 years, are not often seen in an important class of application software today. That class of software is commonly referred to as control system software or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software which is being used today within critical infrastructures and being net-enabled as it is modernized. This circumstance is driven by evolution and not intention. This paper details several vulnerabilities existing in a specific software application as a case study. These vulnerabilities are a result of not following widely-accepted secure software engineering practices which should have been considered by the software engineers developing the product studied. The applicability of these lessons to the classroom are also established with examples of how they are integrated into software engineering and computer science curricula.

임베디드 리눅스 기반 산업용 무선 HMI 소프트웨어 모듈 설계 및 구현

Industrial HMI(Human Machine Interface) system is the main element among the factory automation processes and have been used to monitor and control operation and status of machine in factory with PLC. This HMI often brings heavy loads to the system development and difficult decreasing the system because it tends to use a specific system per each manufacturer. Therefore, in this thesis, we have developed an embedded linux-based embedded industrial HMI software modules which can be used for touch panel embedded system to solve these problem. In this module, we have used the Qt/Embedded software component because it can be used by all systems which support C++ compiler without modifying the existing codes. We can design more flexible system and network configuration because we have used the wireless communication module. In this thesis, we implement linux-based HMI software modules which are capable of wireless communication as well as bringing the mobility to the overall system and finally decreasing the system development loads by using the general purpose OS with competitive price.

Enhanced Reliability of Mold Close and Open Control in Injection Molding Machine through Fuzzy Algorithm

Injection Molding Machine (IMM) has been widely used for the mass production of a plastic product. With the development of the relative technique, various injection molding techniques have been developed and we could get more precise plastic product. In this paper, we present the system reliability of an IMM subject to a controller. The controller of an IMM is an important factor in the injection molding and this controller has direct influence on the quality of a plastic product. Presently, the mold close and open control method of a toggle type IMM is openloop control. Open-loop method is difficult to control when they affect highly nonlinear characteristic in an IMM. Therefore, we propose an alternate approach to implement the controller using closed-loop control method to enhance the reliability. Through the development, fuzzy control algorithm is selected and it is programmed by an IL(Instruction List) and a LD(Ladder Diagram) on a PC based PLC. For the development of an IMM controller, PC based PLC of PCI card type, distributed I/O modules with CANopen, Industrial PC and HMI(Human Machine Interface) software are used.

Semi-autonomous manufacturing systems: The role of the human–machine interface software and of the manufacturing tracking software

This technical paper discusses the advantages of implementing semi-autonomous manufacturing systems. The paper reports the development of two robotic cells designed with the objective of being almost autonomous, requiring only minor parameterization to operate efficiently. This objective can be obtained by proper design of the human–machine interface (HMI) software and of an efficient connection to the production tracking software. The two presented robotic systems explore these two aspects giving to the reader a good insight into the problem. The discussion will be kept general in a way to allow readers to easily explore from the ideas presented in the paper.

Microcontroller-based system for the automatic operation of the capacitor banks of the Novillo Tokamak

The design and construction of the electronic instrumentation, in its hardware and software phases, for the new automatic system that supervises and controls the capacitor bank charge of the Novillo Tokamak and carries out the discharge process, are presented. A microcontroller was used as the central device to perform the control, supervision, and safety functions. The programming of this microcontroller consists of both the assembler language of the device and the ‘C’ language that manages the microcontroller's assembler language and provides a friendly human–machine interface software. The system includes evaluation capabilities for the capacitor charge process. Likewise, the safety measures implemented by the software, inhibit any Tokamak operation posing potential risks of injury to the human operators or damage to the device. Experimental results for the Novillo Tokamak charge and discharge processes are presented.

No. 5 ESS Maintenance Software

No. 5 ESS is a stored program controlled digital switching system using distributed processing to provide smooth growth across the entire central office line range. The No. 5 ESS maintenance hardware and software is designed to meet all Bell System reliability and maintenance requirements. New approaches for maintenance software design have been required to accomplish this in a distributed processing environment. The responsibility for carrying out maintenance functions is distributed so that major functional units are almost totally responsible for their own maintenance. This allows system evolution to take place with minimum impact on the overall software structure and also allows loose coupling of system elements. Loose coupling means that relatively slow control channels can be used for intrasystem communication. All of these features facilitate the remoting of major functional units away from No. 5 ESS. Switch maintenance, terminal maintenance, system integrity, and human-machine interface software are present in each of No. 5 ESS's distributed processors. Software in these processors is decomposed into small, easily understood components with well-defined interfaces. Operating systems are used to switch messages between software processes and to provide common services for the maintenance subsystems. Most of the software is written in the C high-level language. This simplifies software development by allowing the same coding language to be used for all system processors and provides future code portability when new generations of processors are introduced into the system. The No. 5 ESS maintenance software architecture and design approach helps ensure a high-quality end product. It should also minimize future effort needed to introduce new hardware, services, and features into the system.
