A Case Report of Ultrasound-guided Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture on Lateral epicondylitis

Objectives: This case study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of ultrasound-guided hominis placenta pharmacopuncture in lateral epicondylitis.Methods: A 42-year-old male patient presented with lateral epicondylitis of the right arm of 4 months’ duration. Sonographic findings were tearing of the common extensor tendon at the lateral epicondyle. The patient was treated with ultrasound-guided hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and acupuncture for 9 weeks. The numeric rating scale (NRS) and patient-rated tennis elbow evaluation(PRTEE) were used to assess pain, function and progression. Ultrasound images were compared every 2 weeks.Results: After treatments, NRS and PRTEE were reduced from 7 to 1 and from 106 to 22, respectively. And improvement was observed in the torn region of the common extensor tendon on ultrasound imaging.Conclusion: This case demonstrates that ultrasound-guided hominis placenta pharmacopuncture could improve lateral epicondylitis and tear with minimally invasive methods.

Three Cases of Frozen Shoulder Treated with Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture and Chuna Manual Therapy

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy in patients with frozen shoulder.Methods: Frozen shoulder was treated with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy, and the overall shoulder pain was measured by visual analog scale (VAS), and the range of motion (ROM) of shoulder movement was evaluated by measuring passive abduction and external rotation and active hand to shoulder blade test.Results: After the treatment, overall shoulder pain was reduced, and ROM of passive abduction and external rotation was increased.Conclusions: The above results show that hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy can be used as an effective treatment for frozen shoulder.

Clinical Review of Pharmacopuncture Therapy Based on the Progression of Bell’s Palsy

There were 26 Bell’s palsy cases at the Jecheon Hospital of Korean medicine, Semyung University from February 1, 2019, to February 28, 2021 reviewed. One group (A group) was treated with Bamboo salt pharmacopuncture and cervi cornu parvum pharmacopuncture (CC) pharmacopuncture in the paralyzed side of the face, and the other (B group) group was treated with Soyum pharmacopuncture, and hominis placenta (HP) pharmacopuncture. Amid a paucity of studies that have used bamboo salt and CC pharmacopuncture to treat Bell’s palsy, this study aimed to demonstrate possibility of treatment effect on Bell’s palsy. In addition, this study was to see if the effect of determine a change in pharmacopuncture was changed according to the progress of Bell’s palsy symptoms was effective. Bell’s palsy was improved in each group. Altough there were no significant differences in improvement between two groups, Bamboo salt pharmacopuncture and CC pharmacopuncture could be expected to be effective on the paralyzed face. Furthermore, it is effective to switch pharmacopuncture according to the progress of Bell’s palsy.

Comparative Observational Study on the Effects of Intra-articular Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture and Acupoint Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture for Knee Osteoarthritis Patients

The aim of this case report was to observe the effects of intra-articular hominis placenta pharmacopuncture (HPP). Based on the medical records patients who received intra-articular treatment or received acupoint pharmacopuncture treatment, a comparison was made. There were 35 patients who were hospitalized for degenerative osteoarthritis of the knee joint from the 1<sup>st</sup> October 2019 to 26<sup>th</sup> September 2020. There were 14 patients who were treated with HPP in the intra-articular joint space (Group A), and 14 patients who were treated with HPP at specific acupoints (Group B). The outcome effects were measured using the Korean Western Ontario and Mc (KWOMAC) the visual analog scale (VAS) before the first treatment, and after the fifth treatment. The KWOMAC (<i>p</i> < 0.001) and the VAS scores (<i>p</i> < 0.001) in Groups A and B significantly improved after treatment compared with before treatment. When comparing Group A improvement with Group B improvement using the KWOMAC there was no statistically significant difference however, when using the VAS scores, Group A treatment was statistically more effective compared with Group B (<i>p</i> = 0.002). This study indicated that HPP may be an effective treatment for knee osteoarthritis. Moreover, intra-articular HPP may be more effective than acupoint HPP for knee osteoarthritis.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate and report the effectiveness of Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture treatment for chronic ankle sprain. Methods 2 patients are treated at Dept. of Korean Medicine, the Armed Forces Busan Hospital, diagnosed as thinning of anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), suggestive of partial tear and anterior tibiofibular ligament partial tear. They are treated with Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture. Each cases are measured and assessed by ankle hindfoot scale (AHS), visual analgue scale (VAS), cumberland ankle instability tool (CAIT) scores. Results 2 patients of chronic disease of ankle sprain have a different kind of diagnoses they have. After treatment of Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture, spontaneous pain is decreased and ankle instability, ankle functions are increased significantly. Conclusions Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture has a effect on chronic ankle sprain.

Efficacy between Hwangryunhaedok-tang Pharmacopuncture Therapy and Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture Therapy on Peripheral Facial Paralysis : Retrospective Comparision Study

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture therapy with Hominis Placenta pharmacopncture therapy in hospitalized patients with peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We investigated 34 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis who were admitted into the Dept. of Acupuncture & Moxibustion of Dongshin University Suncheon Oriental Hospital from February 1, 2014 to June 31, 2015. Subjects were divided into two groups, Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture group(HR group), and Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture group(JH group). HR group was treated by Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture five times a week and JH group was treated by Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture five times a week. And both groups were treated by acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine therapy, western drug therapy equally. To investigate the effectiveness of treatment, we used House-Brackmann Grading System, Yanagihara's unweighted grading system and Sunnybrook facial grading scale at before admission and after admission. Results : Each scores by 3 evaluation methods improved both in two groups. However, there were no significant differences in improvement between two groups. Conclusions : These results suggest that the Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture therapy is as effective as Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture therapy to improve symptoms of peripheral facial paralysis.

A Pilot Study on Single-dose Toxicity Testing of Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture in Sprague-Dawley Rats.

Objectives:This study was performed to analyze the toxicity and to find the lethal dose of the test substance Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture when used as a single-dose in 6 week old, male and female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.Methods:All experiments were conducted at Biotoxtech (Chungwon, Korea), an institution authorized to perform non clinical studies, under the regulations of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). SD rats were chosen for the pilot study. Doses of Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture extracts, 0.125, 0.25 and 0.5 mL, were administered to the experimental group, and 0.5 mL doses of normal saline solution were administered to the control group. This study was conducted under the approval of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee.Results:No deaths or abnormalities occurred in any of the groups. Also, no significant changes in body weights were observed among the groups, and no significant differences in hematology/biochemistry, necropsy, and histopathology results were noted. Hematologically, some changes in the male rats in two experimental groups were observed, but those changes had no clinical or toxicological meaning because they were not dose dependent. Histopathological tests on the injected parts showed cell infiltration in the male rats in one of the experimental groups; however, that result was due to spontaneous generation and had no toxicological meaning. Therefore, this study showed that Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture had no effect on the injected parts in terms of clinical signs, body weight, hematology, clinical chemistry, and necropsy.Conclusion:As a result of single-dose tests of the test substance Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture in 4 groups of rats, the lethal dose for both males and females exceeded 0.5 mL/animal. Therefore, the above findings suggest that treatment with Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture is relatively safe. Further studies on this subject are needed.

A Case Report of Cold Sensitivity of Hand by Korean Medical Treatment with Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture at LI4 and LI10

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effects of Korean medical treatment with Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture(HPP) on cold hypersensitivity of hands. Methods : A 46-year-old female patient whose chief complaint was cold hypersensitivity of hands was treated with Placenta Pharmacopunture at LI4 and LI10, ten times for a month. Acupuncture and herbal medicine were added depending on the symptoms. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(D.I.T.I) was taken and Visual Analog Scale(VAS) was examined before and after each treatment. Results : After the treatments, the symptoms were improved. Conclusions : DITI and VAS showed that the patient`s cold hypersensitivity of hands was improved after Korean medical treatment with Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture.

The Retrospective Comparative Study of General Acupuncture Therapy and Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture Therapy on Severe Dyspepsia

Objectives : The purpose of this research was to compare the effect of general acupuncture therapy to Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture therapy on pain and discomfort of severe dyspepsia in upper abdomen. Methods : We investigated 60 cases of patients with severe dyspepsia, who had been treated at Dept. of Internal Medicine, College of Oriental Medicine Dongeui University from May 2011 to September 2012. We divided patients into two groups : Group I was treated by general acupuncture(ACU, n=30) and Group II was treated by Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture therapy(PHA, n=30). The symptoms and quality of life were measured with the Nepean dyspepsia index-Korean version(NDI-K) at baseline and 2 weeks. The responsiveness of the NDI-K was evaluated by correlation with symptom scores. Results : In ACU group, the 13 symptom scores were significantly decreased after treatment(p＜0.05). In PHA group, the 9 symptom scores were significantly decreased after treatment(p＜0.05). In ACU group, the 3 Quality of life(QOL) scores were significantly increased after treatment(p＜0.01). In PHA group, the 3 QOL scores were significantly increased after treatment(p＜0.05). Conclusions : General acupuncture therapy and Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture therapy improves the symptoms and the quality of life in patients with severe dyspepsia. But there were no significant differences statistically between the two groups.

복합 유형의 탈모 증상을 나타내는 환아 치험 1례

Objectives This clinical study is aimed to examine the effects of herbal medication and pharmacopunture on child with different types of alopecia. Methods 13 year old girl was treated with Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture microneedle therapy system and Ganoderma lucidum pharmacopuncture mesotherapy on the alopecia lesion for 20 months. Herbal medication, meridian pharmacopuncture therapy and physiotherapy were also used to reduce physical symptoms. Results The patient had a relapse of hair loss with changing alopecia types, but eventually alopecia has been resolved and maintained throughout the Korean medicine treatment. Conclusions This study shows the effect of the Korean medical treatments for a pediatric patient with alopecia. And more research is needed to study about patients with different types of alopecia.

Stimulative Effects of Hominis Placental Pharmacopuncture Solution Combined with Zinc-oxide Nanoparticles on RAW 264.7 Cells: ZnO HPPS more easily stimulates RAW 264.7 cells.

Objectives:The purpose of this study is to examine whether Hominis Placental pharmacopuncture solution (HPPS) combined with zinc-oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NP) activates RAW 264.7 cells.Methods:We soaked ZnO nanoparticles in the Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture solution, thereby making a combined form (ZnO NP HPPS). The effect of ZnO NP HPPS on the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was measured by 2', 7'-dichlorofluorescin diacetate (DCFH-DA) assay. The effect of ZnO NP HPPS on NF-κ B was measured by using a luciferase assay. The effect of ZnO NP HPPS on the cytokine expression was assessed by semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The cellular uptake of ZnO NP HPPS was measured by using a flow cytometric analysis, and cellular structural alterations were analyzed by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).Results:Neither the HPPS nor the ZnO NPs induced intracellular ROS production in RAW 264.7 cells. Neither of the materials activated NF-κ B or it’s dependent genes, such as TNF-α, IL-1, and MCP-1. However, ZnO NP HPPS, the combined form of ZnO NPs and HPPS, did induce the intracellular ROS production, as well as prominently activating NF-κ B and it’s dependent genes. Also, compared to ZnO NPs, it effectively increased the uptake by RAW 264.7 cells. In addition, cellular structural alterations were observed in groups treated with ZnO NP HPPS.Conclusions:Neither ZnO NP nor HPPS activated RAW 264.7 cells, which is likely due to a low cellular uptake. The ZnO NP HPPS, however, significantly activated NF-κ B and up-regulated its dependent genes such as TNF-α, IL-1, and MCP-1. ZnO NP HPPS was also more easily taken into the RAW 264.7 cells than either ZnO NP or HPPS.

자하거 약침으로 호전된 방아쇠 수지 환자의 증례 보고

Objectives : The Purpose of this study is to investigate and report the effectiveness of Hominis Placenta using Pharmacopuncture treatment for trigger finger. Methods : 3 Patients are admitted at Dept. of Oriental Rehabilitation, Bu-Chun Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, diagnosed as Trigger finger and treated with Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture. Each cases are measured and assessed by Quinnell`s classification of triggering and VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) scores. Results : 3 Patients of trigger finger have a different kind of cause and fingers lesion they have, but nodules are not significantly found up, so we could classify all of 3 patients to diffuse type. After treatment of Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture, spontaneous pain and tenderness, grades of triggering are decreased significantly. We would expect that Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture has a effect on degenerative diseases of diffuse type`s tendon sheath. Conclusions : Trigger finger is generally divided into two stages, inflammatory and degenerative stage, and when degenerative stage, Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture appears to be effective.

중풍 환자의 하지 경직에 대한 자하거 약침의 효과 연구

Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture(HPP) on lower limb spasticity control in stroke patients. Methods : Twenty stroke patients with Leg spasticity were randomly divided into two groups, a Distilled water Pharmacopuncture(group I) and a HPP(group II). The number of Pharmacopuncture was 5 times a week and acupuncture treatment was 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS), H-reflex/M-response ratio(H/M ratio), Berg Balance Scale(BBS) and Time Up & Go(TUG) were used for evaluation of spasticity control before experiment, after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks. Results : Group I showed significant improvement(p.05) in BBS but no significant improvement in MAS, H/M ratio, and TUG. Group II showed significant improvement(p.05) in MAS, BBS, and TUG, but no significant improvement in H/M ratio. The results showed significant difference in TUG, but no significant difference in MAS, H/M ratio and BBS between 2 groups. Conclusion : These results showed that HPP might decrease lower limb spasticity and increase leg motor function in stroke patients. Further studies will be required to examine more cases in the long period for the effect on lower limb in spasticity by HPP.

특발성 동안신경마비의 자하거 약침 치료 3례

Objective : Oculomotor nerve palsy is a disorder which causes eyeball movement trouble, diplopia, dizziness and eyelid ptosis. It is caused by aneurysm, mass, trauma, infection and so on. But sometimes we can`t establish the cause. We observed 3 cases of idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy patient treated with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture. Method & Result : We treated three idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy patients with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and electroacupuncture. As the result, symptoms of three patients were improved remarkably. Conclusion : In this cases, the hominis placenta pharmacopuncture is effective on idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy. We need further study about idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy and hominis placenta pharmacopuncture.

자하거 약침의 천식 환자에 대한 연속증례보고

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture(HPP) for patients with asthma. Methods We treated three patients who have asthma with HPP. To check the effect of HPP we used CAMSOM-V. To check the satisfaction of HPP we used Five-point Likert scale. Results After treatment symptoms were improved. CAMSOM-V decreased in all cases. The Likert scale points were checked 5 and 4 and 4. Conclusions In this study, we have found the meaning of the research that HPP, in the future will be efficacious against asthma.
