This study aims to examine the learning of critical thinking skills on the type of business and economic activity in Indonesia in class V students with contextual methods using online-based learning video media.. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were fifth grade students of SD Atta'Zhimiyah Bandung City with a total of 25 students. The instruments used were teacher and student observation sheets, test questions, and teacher and student interview questionnaires. The results showed that there was an increase in the quality of learning when the learning video media was applied. This is indicated by the average value of IPS understanding in the class of 89.20 which is classified in the good category, the highest score of students is 100 and the lowest value is 60. Student learning mastery shows 92.0% of students getting scores above the minimum completeness criteria and 8, 0% still gets a score below the minimum completeness criteria value.

Pembelajaran keterampilan musikal pada siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar dengan menggunakan media audio visual

This study aims to examine the learning of musical skills in grade IV students using audio-visual media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were fourth grade students of SD Negeri 195 Isola Kota Bandung with a total of 34 students consisting of 17 male students and 17 female students. The instruments used were teacher and student observation sheets, evaluation questions, and teacher and student questionnaires. The results showed that there was an increase in the quality of learning after using audio visual media. This is indicated by the average value of class musical skills of 76.32 which is in the good category, the highest score of students is 90 and the lowest score is 60. Students' learning completeness shows 94.1% of students get scores above the minimum completeness criteria and 5, 9% still scored below the minimum completeness criteria value.Â

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CREATIVE WRITING ON STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH WRITING ABILITY AT THE ELEVENT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 11 PALEMBANG

The title of this study is The Effectiveness of Creative Writing on Students’ Descriptive Paragraph Writing Ability at the Elevent Grade Students of SMAN 11 Palembang. The formulation of this study the effectiveness of creative writing on descriptive paragraphs against the writing abilities of students in class XI SMAN 11 Palembang. The writer used a pretest-posttest consisting of an experimental class and a control class, meaning the writer selected the group to be randomly studied to find out the differences between the two groups. Students of Class XI IPS 3 and XI IPS 4 are selected classes to be used as samples, each consisting of 35 students. The data collected was taken from a written test. The average pre-test score for the experimental class was 64.25, whereas the post test score was 70.08, as well as the average pretest score in the control class was 63.51 while the posttest score was 64,00. Results from the two groups above showed a positive response to the student’s ability to write descriptive paragraphs. The results of this research showed that creative writing on student writing ability had a low score at the time of the pretest. After treatment, student writing ability improved significantly. It can be seen from higher student scores than before. Data from the writing test had a positive result against student creative writing in their writing ability. Application Of The Field Trip Method To Improve The Ability To Write Descriptions Of Students At SMA Negeri 3 Kab. Wajo

This study aims to improve the students writing description skills of class XI through the application of the field trip method located at Senior High School 3 Wajo. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is aimed to improve the quality of learning practices in the classroom. The collected data were analysed critically by comparing the results of the actions in each cycle. The results obtained from this study include: (1) the application of the field trip method can improve writing learning. This is indicated by the increased activeness, attention, concentration, interest, and motivation of students in learning to write descriptions. (2) the application of the field trip method can improve students' ability to write descriptions. This is indicated by the increasing value of the students' writing. In cycle I the lowest score of students was 59 and the highest score of students was 82, while in cycle II the lowest score of students was 64 and the highest score of students was 95, (3) the completeness of student learning outcomes increased. In the first cycle the completeness of the learning outcomes was only 48% or 12 students and in the second cycle it was 96% or 24 students. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the field trip method can improve students' ability to write descriptions.

A DEPTH INSPECTION ON INFORMAL SCHOOL STUDENTS’ DILEMMA IN TRANSLATING ENGLISH ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT TO INDONESIA

The aim of this research is to analyse students' difficulties in translating argumentative text. It was conducted at FLC Course. The participant of this research consisted 15 students. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The instruments of this research were translation text and questionnaire sheet. The result of this study from translation text, students made mistake which were the ambiguity, sentence pattern, missing words, and non-linguistics factor. In questionnaire sheet, the highest score of students' difficulties was in linguistics factor which was about 55 score. It was difficulty in translating words which had double meaning. In non-linguistics factor, the highest score was 52 score. It was difficulty in translating words that related with ideology value. Besides, there are internal and external factors from within students that affect their difficulties where the internal factor is the students' motivation and interested in learning is lacking. While external factors are a lack of attention from the teacher and parent, inexact of methodologies in leaning and the lack of student facilities in learning. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that students' difficulties in translating argumentative text more dominant come from linguistics factor than non-linguistics factor.

The Correlation of Students’ Motivation and Reading Comprehension of Tenth Grade IPS 1 at SMA N 3 Jambi City

This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the correlation of students’ motivation and reading comprehension, at tenth grade IPS 1 SMA N 3 Jambi City. This research was designed using quantitative research methods. The population of this study was the tenth grade students at SMA N 3 Jambi City, and the sample was IPS 1 students.This study uses questionnaire and test as research instruments. Then the results are assessed and. The questionnaire is adapted from previous research to collect motivation data. While the test is adapted from test Universitas Islam Negri Yogyakarta to collect the data of students’ reading comprehension. The highest score of students' motivation to reading was 72 points and the lowest score was 55 points and the average 62,7. The highest score test of a students’ score in reading was 85 and the lowest one was 25 and average 61. The data is calculated by using Pearson Product Moment to prove whether the hyphothesis of this research was significant or not, and the result of correlation analysis showed that the correlation coefficient ???????????? was -0,2538353. The value of ???????????? was consulted with Pearson’s product moment table (rtable) df 29 and significant level 5% and 1%. If ???????????? > rtable it meant that there was a positive correlation, and the hypothesis could be accepted. And if ???????????? < rtable it meant that there was not a positive correlation, and the hypothesis could be rejected.

Students’ Public Speaking Assessment for Informative Speech

Public Speaking is considered as an essential skill for University Students. Public speaking is having a speaker stand before the audience to deliver a speech in a structured manner, to either persuade, inform, or entertain the audience.This study aimed to reveal the extent of students’ skills in public speaking skill especially for persuasive and informative speech. This research was descriptive quantitative. Data were obtained from students' public speaking test of 58 English studentsat English Department University of Pasir Pengaraian and analyzed and described in qualitatively. The finding came up with encouraging numbers of results where a greater proportion of the samples reported significant number in good level of categories in assessing public speaking skill. More over, the result showed that the highest score of students’ in public speaking skill was in vocabularies and comprehension. Besides, it was indicated that the students gradually could express their thought and opinions smoothly in informative speech then persuasive speech.

PEMBELAJARAN PEMAHAMAN KONSEP IPS MELALUI PENERAPAN METODE ACTIVE LEARNING TIPE INDEX CARD MATCH PADA SISWA KELAS IV

This study aims to examine learning social studies understanding in grade IV students using the index card type active learning method. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were fourth grade students of SD Negeri 259 Griba, Bandung City with a total of 30 students consisting of 11 male students and 19 female students. The instruments used were teacher and student observation sheets, questions about economic activities, and teacher and student questionnaires. The results showed that there was an increase in the quality of learning after using the index card type active learning method. This is indicated by the average value of class social studies understanding of 90.00% which is in the good category, the highest score of students is 96 and the lowest score is 40. Students' learning completeness shows that 90.00% of students get scores above the minimum completeness criteria, and 10% still scored below the minimum completeness criteria value.

Improving Students’ Toefl Listening Skill through Task-Based Learning Approach

Toefl is urgently needed as an administrative requirement to work and participate in the scholarship competition. Students are required to master skills of this test. However, based on the results of pre-observations conducted in Information System class of Potensi Utama University, it is known that the average Toefl scores of students in Reading (37.8%), structure (32.7%), and Listening (29.5%). This phenomenon occurs because Toefl learning emphasizes a lot of activities on reading and structure skills so students do not get listening tasks with good quality and quantity. Therefore, the effective learning approach is needed to make Toefl learning process more effective in improving the listening skill of students. The result showed that there was an Improving of students’ listening skill from the test results of before observation with the highest conversion score of students’ Toefl listening is 43. Meanwhile, after being given action and application of task-based learning approach there was a change that the highest score of students’ Toefl listening in cycle I is 54 and the highest score of students’ Toefl listening in cycle II is 62. Therefore, it can be concluded that using the task-based learning approach has significantly improved students' Toefl listening skill.

Enhancing The Post-Millennial Students Using Information Communication and Technology in learning English

Post millennial generation, born after 1996 have their own characteristics especially in applying information technology in learning, and the teaching of English should be revisited to meet their needs and styles. The paper presents the gap between the experience of the post millennial generation and their expectation in learning English; as well as the lecturers’ experience and perspective regarding the use of technology in learning a language. The data were gathered by distributing questionnaires to 247 university students investigating their generations, their expectation, and experience in learning English. The information from the lecturers was obtained by interviewing 10 lecturers from various generations. The results show that the score of students’ experience regarding the use of technology is lower than those of their expectation. In their experience, technology has been implemented to obtain materials from website and to communicate with lecturers using Whattsap/facebook/Line. However, the highest score of students’ expectation indicates that technology should be provided as campus facilities and be used to communicate with lecturers. The lecturers have applied technology to obtain supplementary materials and to initiate online games, also they expect to use various language application in teaching. The results of the research can function as the input in developing the teaching of English using technology.

PENERAPAN PENDEKATAN CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING (CTL) BERBANTU MDIA GAMBAR UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR IPA SISWA KELAS VI SD NEGERI 007 KAMPUNG BARU KECAMATAN GUNUNG TOAR KABUPATEN KUANTAN SINGINGI

This research was motivated by the learning outcomes of students' natural sciences that were still low. The purpose of this study was to improve student learning outcomes with the application of the Contextual Teaching And Learning approach. This research is a classroom action research consisting of II cycles with research subjects in class VI of 007 Kampung Baru State Primary School Gunung Toar District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The results showed that, judging from the basic score, the lowest value of students was 50 while the highest score of students was 85 with an average grade of 62.78 with an incomplete category. in the first cycle the lowest value of students was 65 while the highest value of students was 90 with an average grade of 74 with a complete category. For learning outcomes in cycle II, the lowest value of students is 75 while the highest value of students is 100 with the average value of class 84.47 with complete categories. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the Contextual Teaching And Learning learning approach assisted by media images can improve the learning outcomes of Natural Sciences students of class VI 007 Public Primary School Kampung Baru, Gunung Toar District, Kuantan Singingi Regency.

Writing Kakawihan as a Local Wisdom's Teaching Material in Grade VII SMPN 3 Cianjur

This paper is motivated by the lack of students' interest in learning to write poetry and lack of interest in literature. In addition, teaching materials based on local wisdom are still rarely used in learning Indonesian. In connection with this, this paper will describe the utilization of the skills and abilities of students in writing poetry. The method used in the research is descriptive. The research technique used is content analysis, interviews, and tests. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the average value of kakawihan's poetry writing ability in class VII of SMP N 3 Cianjur is 77.9 is in a good category with 76-85 mastery interval. The highest score of students in writing kakawihan poetry is 87 obtained by one student (4%), and the lowest value is 73 obtained by 5 students (20%). Thus, kakawihan kaulinan barudak can be used as teaching material in learning Indonesian language based on local wisdom.Keywords: writing poetry, kakawihan kaulinan barudak

Learning Experience of Pre-Service Physics Teachers in Developing Simple Project Loaded by Life Skills

This research aims to reveal the experience profile of future Physics teachers in developing simple multi-loaded life skill project. The research method used was a descriptive method with 62 future Physics teachers as the research subject. Based on observations, interviews, and questionnaires, it was drawn descriptions of the future teachers’ experiences in developing a simple project. The future teachers were assessed based on some Physics indicators such as project design, project creation, data collection, data analysis, and creativity. The results of the project preparation descriptions obtained by the experience data of future Physics teachers indicate the highest score of 4.8 (96%) on the indicator of schedule making, while the lowest score was 2.9 (58%) on the indicators of formulating the product benefits, preparing the feasibility analysis and analyzing the environmental impact. The results show that future Physics teachers got the highest score of 4.6 (93%) on data adjustment for experimental purposes indicator, and the lowest score of 2.8 (55%) on designing tools and materials indicator. Based on the Physics props trial, it was obtained the highest score of 4.5 (89%) on the indicator of analyzing the baseline data, while the lowest score of 2.9 (58%) was on the variation test variables. Positive feedback about time-management in completing the project, the ability to identify the topic of the project, the ability to find ideas to support the completion of the project, the ability to test the tools, and the ability to make progress reports on project completion were derived from the interviews. The highest score of students’ responses to project completion was 4.8 (95%) on the second data collection indicator and the lowest was 3.2 (64%) on the instrument material design indicator.

Examining a Public Montessori School’s Response to the Pressures of High-Stakes Accountability

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"> </p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;">In order to succeed in the current school assessment and accountability era, a public Montessori school is expected to achieve high student scores on standardized assessments. A problem for a public Montessori elementary school is how to make sense of the school’s high-stakes assessment scores in terms of its unique educational approach. This case study examined a public Montessori elementary school’s efforts as the school implemented the Montessori Method within the accountability era. The research revealed the ways the principal, teachers, and parents on the school council modified Montessori practices, curriculum, and assessment procedures based on test scores. A quality Montessori education is designed to offer children opportunities to develop both cognitive skills and affective components such as student motivation and socio-emotional skills that will serve them beyond their public school experiences. Sadly, the high-stakes testing environment influences so much of public education today. When quality education was measured through only one narrow measure of success the result in this school was clearly a restriction of priorities to areas that were easily assessed. </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"> </p>

Accessing Capital Resources: Investigating the Effects of Teacher Human and Social Capital on Student Achievement

BackgroundA growing empirical base suggests that there is a positive relationship between teacher social interaction and student achievement. However, much of this research is based on standardized summative assessments, which, while important, may have limited applicability to timely instructional decision making. As such, in this work, we examine the relationship between teacher social interaction and interim benchmark formative assessments, which have been argued to play a more useful role in instructional decision making.PurposeIn this study we used a human and social capital framework to explore the relationship between teacher social interaction and student achievement on an interim benchmark formative assessment. We hypothesized that teacher social capital would be positively related with student achievement as measured by an interim assessment, even after controlling for student and teacher demographics as well as proxies for teacher human capital.PopulationA sample of 63 teachers from five elementary schools in a midsize U.S. district completed a demographic and social network survey, from which we generated our human and social capital measures. For student-level data, we collected current and prior student achievement from 1,196 third to fifth grade students on an English Language Arts Interim Benchmark Assessment.Research DesignWe used survey data to conduct social network analysis and hierarchical linear modeling to explore the multilevel relationship between human and social capital and student achievement.ResultsResults indicated that even when controlling for student demographics and prior achievement, teachers’ human and social capital had a significant effect on student achievement as measured by interim assessments. More specifically our results indicated that more teaching experience in the current school was associated with better student performance on the interim assessment. In addition, the act of reaching out to other teachers to share knowledge regarding reading comprehension was associated with higher student scores on the interim assessment even when controlling for demographics and past academic performance.ConclusionsThis study offers a unique insight into the role of accessing capital resources and student achievement in strengthening schools under increased pressure to improve. Our work adds to the growing empirical base that suggests that teacher social interaction has a relationship with student achievement. To encourage social interaction, creating formal policies and structures for teachers to develop social ties with one another related to content may be a useful strategy in supporting student outcomes.

A Comparison of Pharmacy Students’ and Active Older Adults' Perceptions Regarding Geriatric Quality of Life

To measure perceptions of quality of life (QOL) in an active geriatric population and compare their responses with pharmacy students' perceptions of older adult QOL. Pharmacy students and active older adults completed the modified and standard version of a validated health survey instrument, respectively, and their responses were compared. Eighty-six students and 20 active older adults participated. Student perceptions of geriatric QOL were significantly lower in all domains except health change compared to older adult perceptions (p<0.001 for all domains). Interest in a geriatric pharmacy career (p=0.04) and previously having taken the Perspectives in Geriatrics course and laboratory (p=0.05 and 0.02, respectively) were significantly associated with higher student scores on the physical component portion of the survey. Stronger emphasis on geriatric QOL within pharmacy curricula may improve pharmacy students' perceptions regarding outcomes related to healthy older adults.

An Evaluation of Two-Year College Student Achievement on the Test of Understanding in Personal Economics

Three courses, attended by both freshmen and sophomores, were compared as to the scores on the TUPE achieved by students. It appeared that the most “formal” course, Social Science: Economic Perspectives, may have given the students more exposure to economic terminology and conceptual analysis, thereby enabling them to achieve higher scores. The other two courses, one of which, Consumer Problems, might have been expected to yield higher student scores on the TUPE, did not contribute as much to the students' scores on the TUPE posttest. The author warns, however, that the results may have been influenced by variables, such as instructor characteristics, which were not controlled in this study.
