This study presents the synthesis of innovative fluoride glass-ceramics (GCs) via a melt-quenching technique followed by heat treatment, enabling the controlled formation of ZnF2 nanocrystals within an Er3+-doped ZnF2-AlF3 fluoride glass matrix. The uniform dispersion of ZnF2 nanocrystals throughout the glass matrix was confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses. Remarkably, the crystallized glass samples retained high levels of transparency. Enhanced luminescence across visible to mid-infrared spectral regions was observed in the Er3+-doped ZnF2-AlF3 based fluoride glass-ceramics compared to their precursor glass, signaling a significant improvement. These findings underscore the potential of the developed fluoride glass-ceramics as promising materials for laser applications and mark a significant step forward in the development of fluoride crystallized fibers.
