ABSTRACT In consideration of the challenges at the intersection of the digital divide and higher education, the challenges of prison libraries, and the persistence of inequality in correctional settings, the current study explores how instructors navigate and adapt to these challenges when teaching for higher education in prison programs. The current study utilizes an online survey questionnaire (n = 156) along with a set of semi-structured interviews (n = 41) to explore these questions. Findings support prior research, as the pervasive issues surrounding digital equity and the digital divide for higher education in prison programs continue to persist, especially with the modifications to distance learning forced by the global pandemic . Implications for higher education in prison programs are discussed, which calls for additional research on how programs are functioning now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased.
