A chromosome-scale genome assembly of the nipa palm hispid beetle Octodonta nipae

Nipa palm hispid beetle (Octodonta nipae) is an insect species that is native to Malaysia but has spread to southern China and beyond, seriously threatening palm production. A lack of high-quality genome resources has hindered understanding of the insect’s invasive characteristics and ecological adaptations. Here, we combined Illumina short read, PacBio long-read, and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) sequencing technologies to generate a high-quality, chromosome-scale genome assembly of nipa palm hispid beetle. The genome assembly was 1.31 Gb in size, consisting of nine chromosomes. The contig and scaffold N50 values were 1.022 Mb and 148.6 Mb, respectively. The genome assembly completeness was estimated at 99.1%. Annotation revealed 16,305 protein-coding genes and 62.16% repeat sequences. This high-quality genome assembly is a valuable resource that will contribute to understanding of the genetic factors underlying the invasive characteristics of nipa palm hispid beetle, ultimately promoting development of efficient control policies.

Haplotype-resolved genome assembly and implementation of VitExpress, an open interactive transcriptomic platform for grapevine

Haplotype-resolved genome assemblies were produced for Chasselas and Ugni Blanc, two heterozygous Vitis vinifera cultivars by combining high-fidelity long-read sequencing and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C). The telomere-to-telomere full coverage of the chromosomes allowed us to assemble separately the two haplo-genomes of both cultivars and revealed structural variations between the two haplotypes of a given cultivar. The deletions/insertions, inversions, translocations, and duplications provide insight into the evolutionary history and parental relationship among grape varieties. Integration of de novo single long-read sequencing of full-length transcript isoforms (Iso-Seq) yielded a highly improved genome annotation. Given its higher contiguity, and the robustness of the IsoSeq-based annotation, the Chasselas assembly meets the standard to become the annotated reference genome for V. vinifera. Building on these resources, we developed VitExpress, an open interactive transcriptomic platform, that provides a genome browser and integrated web tools for expression profiling, and a set of statistical tools (StatTools) for the identification of highly correlated genes. Implementation of the correlation finder tool for MybA1, a major regulator of the anthocyanin pathway, identified candidate genes associated with anthocyanin metabolism, whose expression patterns were experimentally validated as discriminating between black and white grapes. These resources and innovative tools for mining genome-related data are anticipated to foster advances in several areas of grapevine research.

Copy number variants at 4q31.3 affecting the regulatory region of FBXW7 associated with neurodevelopmental delay.

Emerging research has demonstrated that genomic alterations disrupting topologically associated domains (TADs) and chromatin interactions underlie the pathogenic mechanisms of specific copy number variants (CNVs) in neurodevelopmental disorders. We report two patients with a de novo deletion and a duplication in chromosome 4q31, potentially causing FBX-related neurodevelopmental syndrome by affecting the regulatory region of FBXW7. High-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) analysis using available capture data in neural progenitor cells revealed the rewiring of the TAD boundary close to FBXW7. Both patients exhibited facial dysmorphisms, cardiac and limb abnormalities, and neurodevelopmental delays, showing significant clinical overlap with previously reported FBXW7-related features. We also included an additional 10 patients with CNVs in the 4q31 region from the literature and the DECIPHER database for Hi-C analysis, which confirmed that disruption of the regulatory region of FBXW7 likely contributes to the developmental defects observed in these patients.

The Spartina alterniflora genome sequence provides insights into the salt-tolerance mechanisms of exo-recretohalophytes.

Spartina alterniflora is an exo-recretohalophyte Poaceae species that is able to grow well in seashore, but the genomic basis underlying its adaptation to salt tolerance remains unknown. Here, we report a high-quality, chromosome-level genome assembly of S. alterniflora constructed through PacBio HiFi sequencing, combined with high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) technology and Illumina-based transcriptomic analyses. The final 1.58 Gb genome assembly has a contig N50 size of 46.74 Mb. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that S. alterniflora diverged from Zoysia japonica approximately 21.72 million years ago (MYA). Moreover, whole-genome duplication (WGD) events in S. alterniflora appear to have expanded gene families and transcription factors relevant to salt tolerance and adaptation to saline environments. Comparative genomics analyses identified numerous species-specific genes, significantly expanded genes and positively selected genes that are enriched for 'ion transport' and 'response to salt stress'. RNA-seq analysis identified several ion transporter genes including the high-affinity K+ transporters (HKTs), SaHKT1;2, SaHKT1;3 and SaHKT1;8, and high copy number of Salt Overly Sensitive (SOS) up-regulated under high salt conditions, and the overexpression of SaHKT2;4 in Arabidopsis thaliana conferred salt tolerance to the plant, suggesting specialized roles for S. alterniflora to adapt to saline environments. Integrated metabolomics and transcriptomics analyses revealed that salt stress activate glutathione metabolism, with differential expressions of several genes such as γ-ECS, GSH-S, GPX, GST and PCS in the glutathione metabolism. This study suggests several adaptive mechanisms that could contribute our understanding of evolutional basis of the halophyte.

Genome structural dynamics: insights from Gaussian network analysis of Hi-C data.

Characterization of the spatiotemporal properties of the chromatin is essential to gaining insights into the physical bases of gene co-expression, transcriptional regulation and epigenetic modifications. The Gaussian network model (GNM) has proven in recent work to serve as a useful tool for modeling chromatin structural dynamics, using as input high-throughput chromosome conformation capture data. We focus here on the exploration of the collective dynamics of chromosomal structures at hierarchical levels of resolution, from single gene loci to topologically associating domains or entire chromosomes. The GNM permits us to identify long-range interactions between gene loci, shedding light on the role of cross-correlations between distal regions of the chromosomes in regulating gene expression. Notably, GNM analysis performed across diverse cell lines highlights the conservation of the global/cooperative movements of the chromatin across different types of cells. Variations driven by localized couplings between genomic loci, on the other hand, underlie cell differentiation, underscoring the significance of the four-dimensional properties of the genome in defining cellular identity. Finally, we demonstrate the close relation between the cell type-dependent mobility profiles of gene loci and their gene expression patterns, providing a clear demonstration of the role of chromosomal 4D features in defining cell-specific differential expression of genes.

The chromosome-level genome assembly of the giant dobsonfly Acanthacorydalis orientalis (McLachlan, 1899)

Acanthacorydalis orientalis (McLachlan, 1899) (Megaloptera: Corydalidae) is an important freshwater-benthic invertebrate species that serves as an indicator for water-quality biomonitoring and is valuable for conservation from East Asia. Here, a high-quality reference genome for A. orientalis was constructed using Oxford Nanopore sequencing and High throughput Chromosome Conformation Capture (Hi-C) technology. The final genome size is 547.98 Mb, with the N50 values of contig and scaffold being 7.77 Mb and 50.53 Mb, respectively. The longest contig and scaffold are 20.57 Mb and 62.26 Mb in length, respectively. There are 99.75% contigs anchored onto 13 pseudo-chromosomes. Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs (BUSCO) analysis showed that the completeness of the genome assembly is 99.01%. There are 10,977 protein-coding genes identified, of which 84.00% are functionally annotated. The genome contains 44.86% repeat sequences. This high-quality genome provides substantial data for future studies on population genetics, aquatic adaptation, and evolution of Megaloptera and other related insect groups.

DiffGR: Detecting Differentially Interacting Genomic Regions from Hi-C Contact Maps

Abstract Recent advances in high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) techniques have allowed us to map genome-wide chromatin interactions and uncover higher-order chromatin structures, thereby shedding light on the principles of genome architecture and functions. However, statistical methods for detecting changes in large-scale chromatin organization such as topologically associating domains (TADs) are still lacking. We proposed a new statistical method, DiffGR, for detecting differentially interacting genomic regions at the TAD level between Hi-C contact maps. We utilized the stratum-adjusted correlation coefficient to measure similarity of local TAD regions. We then developed a nonparametric approach to identify statistically significant changes of genomic interacting regions. Through simulation studies, we demonstrated that DiffGR can robustly and effectively discover differential genomic regions under various conditions. Furthermore, we successfully revealed cell type-specific changes in genomic interacting regions in both human and mouse Hi-C datasets, and illustrated that DiffGR yielded consistent and advantageous results compared with state-of-the-art differential TAD detection methods. Characterization of the High-Quality Genome Sequence and Virulence Factors of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum Race 7.

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum (Fov) is a common soilborne fungal pathogen that causes Fusarium wilt (FW) disease in cotton. Although considerable progress has been made in cotton disease-resistance breeding against FW in China, and the R gene conferring resistance to Fov race 7 (FOV) in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) has been identified, knowledge regarding the evolution of fungal pathogenicity and virulence factors in Fov remains limited. In this study, we present a reference-scale genome assembly and annotation for FOV7, created through the integration of single-molecule real-time sequencing (PacBio) and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) techniques. Comparative genomics analysis revealed the presence of six supernumerary scaffolds specific to FOV7. The genes or sequences within this region can potentially serve as reliable diagnostic markers for distinguishing Fov race 7. Furthermore, we conducted an analysis of the xylem sap proteome of FOV7-infected cotton plants, leading to the identification of 19 proteins that are secreted in xylem (FovSIX). Through a pathogenicity test involving knockout mutants, we demonstrated that FovSIX16 is crucial for the full virulence of FOV7. Overall, this study sheds light on the underlying mechanisms of Fov's pathogenicity and provides valuable insights into potential management strategies for controlling FW.

Three-dimensional chromatin analysis reveals Sp1 as a mediator to program and reprogram HPV-host epigenetic architecture in cervical cancer

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is predominantly associated with HPV-related cancers, however, the precise mechanisms underlying the HPV-host epigenetic architectures in HPV carcinogenesis remain elusive. Here, we employed high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) to comprehensively map HPV16/18-host chromatin interactions. Our study identified the transcription factor Sp1 as a pivotal mediator in programming HPV-host interactions. By targeting Sp1, the active histone modifications (H3K27ac, H3K4me1, and H3K4me3) and the HPV-host chromatin interactions are reprogrammed, which leads to the downregulation of oncogenes located near the integration sites in both HPV (E6/E7) and the host genome (KLF5/MYC). Additionally, Sp1 inhibition led to the upregulation of immune checkpoint genes by reprogramming histone modifications in host cells. Notably, humanized patient-derived xenograft (PDX-HuHSC-NSG) models demonstrated that Sp1 inhibition promoted anti-PD-1 immunotherapy via remodeling the tumor immune microenvironment in cervical cancer. Moreover, single-cell transcriptomic analysis validated the enrichment of transcription factor Sp1 in epithelial cells of cervical cancer. In summary, our findings elucidate Sp1 as a key mediator involved in the programming and reprogramming of HPV-host epigenetic architecture. Inhibiting Sp1 with plicamycin may represent a promising therapeutic option for HPV-related carcinoma.

An improved chromosome-level genome assembly of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.).

This work is an update and extension of the previously published article "Ultralong Oxford Nanopore Reads Enable the Development of a Reference-Grade Perennial Ryegrass Genome Assembly" by Frei etal.The published genome assembly of the doubled haploid perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) genotype Kyuss (Kyuss v1.0) marked a milestone for forage grass research and breeding. However, order and orientation errors may exist in the pseudo-chromosomes of Kyuss, since barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), which diverged 30million years ago from perennial ryegrass, was used as the reference to scaffold Kyuss. To correct for structural errors possibly present in the published Kyuss assembly, we de novo assembled the genome again and generated 50-fold coverage high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) data to assist pseudo-chromosome construction. The resulting new chromosome-level assembly Kyuss v2.0 showed improved quality with high contiguity (contig N50 = 120Mb), high completeness (total BUSCO score = 99%), high base-level accuracy (QV = 50), and correct pseudo-chromosome structure (validated by Hi-C contact map). This new assembly will serve as a better reference genome for Lolium spp. and greatly benefit the forage and turf grass research community.

Matrin3 mediates differentiation through stabilizing chromatin loop-domain interactions and YY1 mediated enhancer-promoter interactions

Although emerging evidence indicates that alterations in proteins within nuclear compartments elicit changes in chromosomal architecture and differentiation, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Here we investigate the direct role of the abundant nuclear complex protein Matrin3 (Matr3) in chromatin architecture and development in the context of myogenesis. Using an acute targeted protein degradation platform (dTAG-Matr3), we reveal the dynamics of development-related chromatin reorganization. High-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) experiments revealed substantial chromatin loop rearrangements soon after Matr3 depletion. Notably, YY1 binding was detected, accompanied by the emergence of novel YY1-mediated enhancer-promoter loops, which occurred concurrently with changes in histone modifications and chromatin-level binding patterns. Changes in chromatin occupancy by Matr3 also correlated with these alterations. Overall, our results suggest that Matr3 mediates differentiation through stabilizing chromatin accessibility and chromatin loop-domain interactions, and highlight a conserved and direct role for Matr3 in maintenance of chromosomal architecture.

Chromosome level genome assembly of endangered medicinal plant Anisodus tanguticus

Anisodus tanguticus is a medicinal herb that belongs to the Anisodus genus of the Solanaceae family. This endangered herb is mainly distributed in Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. In this study, we combined the Illumina short-read, Nanopore long-read and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) sequencing technologies to de novo assemble the A. tanguticus genome. A high-quality chromosomal-level genome assembly was obtained with a genome size of 1.26 Gb and a contig N50 of 25.07 Mb. Of the draft genome sequences, 97.47% were anchored to 24 pseudochromosomes with a scaffold N50 of 51.28 Mb. In addition, 842.14 Mb of transposable elements occupying 66.70% of the genome assembly were identified and 44,252 protein-coding genes were predicted. The genome assembly of A. tanguticus will provide genetic repertoire to understand the adaptation strategy of Anisodus species in the plateau, which will further promote the conservation of endangered A. tanguticus resources.

Increased long-distance and homo-trans interactions related to H3K27me3 in Arabidopsis hybrids.

In plants, the genome structure of hybrids changes compared with their parents, but the effects of these changes in hybrids remain elusive. Comparing reciprocal crosses between Col × C24 and C24 × Col in Arabidopsis using high-throughput chromosome conformation capture assay (Hi-C) analysis, we found that hybrid three-dimensional (3D) chromatin organization had more long-distance interactions relative to parents, and this was mainly located in promoter regions and enriched in genes with heterosis-related pathways. The interactions between euchromatin and heterochromatin were increased, and the compartment strength decreased in hybrids. In compartment domain (CD) boundaries, the distal interactions were more in hybrids than their parents. In the hybrids of CURLY LEAF (clf) mutants clfCol × clfC24 and clfC24 × clfCol , the heterosis phenotype was damaged, and the long-distance interactions in hybrids were fewer than in their parents with lower H3K27me3. ChIP-seq data revealed higher levels of H3K27me3 in the region adjacent to the CD boundary and the same interactional homo-trans sites in the wild-type (WT) hybrids, which may have led to more long-distance interactions. In addition, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) located in the boundaries of CDs and loop regions changed obviously in WT, and the functional enrichment for DEGs was different between WT and clf in the long-distance interactions and loop regions. Our findings may therefore propose a new epigenetic explanation of heterosis in the Arabidopsis hybrids and provide new insights into crop breeding and yield increase.

DiffDomain enables identification of structurally reorganized topologically associating domains

Topologically associating domains (TADs) are critical structural units in three-dimensional genome organization of mammalian genome. Dynamic reorganizations of TADs between health and disease states are associated with essential genome functions. However, computational methods for identifying reorganized TADs are still in the early stages of development. Here, we present DiffDomain, an algorithm leveraging high-dimensional random matrix theory to identify structurally reorganized TADs using high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi–C) contact maps. Method comparison using multiple real Hi–C datasets reveals that DiffDomain outperforms alternative methods for false positive rates, true positive rates, and identifying a new subtype of reorganized TADs. Applying DiffDomain to Hi–C data from different cell types and disease states demonstrates its biological relevance. Identified reorganized TADs are associated with structural variations and epigenomic changes such as changes in CTCF binding sites. By applying to a single-cell Hi–C data from mouse neuronal development, DiffDomain can identify reorganized TADs between cell types with reasonable reproducibility using pseudo-bulk Hi–C data from as few as 100 cells per condition. Moreover, DiffDomain reveals differential cell-to-population variability and heterogeneous cell-to-cell variability in TADs. Therefore, DiffDomain is a statistically sound method for better comparative analysis of TADs using both Hi–C and single-cell Hi–C data.

Mapping nucleosome-resolution chromatin organization and enhancer-promoter loops in plants using Micro-C-XL

Although chromatin organizations in plants have been dissected at the scales of compartments and topologically associating domain (TAD)-like domains, there remains a gap in resolving fine-scale structures. Here, we use Micro-C-XL, a high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C)-based technology that involves micrococcal nuclease (instead of restriction enzymes) and long cross-linkers, to dissect single nucleosome-resolution chromatin organization in Arabidopsis. Insulation analysis reveals more than 14,000 boundaries, which mostly include chromatin accessibility, epigenetic modifications, and transcription factors. Micro-C-XL reveals associations between RNA Pols and local chromatin organizations, suggesting that gene transcription substantially contributes to the establishment of local chromatin domains. By perturbing Pol II both genetically and chemically at the gene level, we confirm its function in regulating chromatin organization. Visible loops and stripes are assigned to super-enhancers and their targeted genes, thus providing direct insights for the identification and mechanistic analysis of distal CREs and their working modes in plants. We further investigate possible factors regulating these chromatin loops. Subsequently, we expand Micro-C-XL to soybean and rice. In summary, we use Micro-C-XL for analyses of plants, which reveal fine-scale chromatin organization and enhancer-promoter loops and provide insights regarding three-dimensional genomes in plants.

Improved chromosome-level genome assembly of Indian sandalwood (Santalum album)

Santalum album is a well-known aromatic and medicinal plant that is highly valued for the essential oil (EO) extracted from its heartwood. In this study, we present a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of S. album after integrating PacBio Sequel, Illumina HiSeq paired-end and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture sequencing technologies. The assembled genome size is 207.39 M with a contig N50 of 7.33 M and scaffold N50 size of 18.31 M. Compared with three previously published sandalwood genomes, the N50 length of the genome assembly was longer. In total, 94.26% of the assembly was assigned to 10 pseudo-chromosomes, and the anchor rate far exceeded that of a recently released value. BUSCO analysis yielded a completeness score of 94.91%. In addition, we predicted 23,283 protein-coding genes, 89.68% of which were functionally annotated. This high-quality genome will provide a foundation for sandalwood functional genomics studies, and also for elucidating the genetic basis of EO biosynthesis in S. album.

A chromosome-level genome assembly of Agave hybrid NO.11648 provides insights into the CAM photosynthesis

Abstract The subfamily Agavoideae comprises crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM), C3, and C4 plants with a young age of speciation and slower mutation accumulation, making it a model crop for studying CAM evolution. However, the genetic mechanism underlying CAM evolution remains unclear because of lacking genomic information. This study assembled the genome of Agave hybrid NO.11648, a constitutive CAM plant belonging to subfamily Agavoideae, at the chromosome level using data generated from high-throughput chromosome conformation capture, Nanopore, and Illumina techniques, resulting in 30 pseudo-chromosomes with a size of 4.87 Gb and scaffold N50 of 186.42 Mb. The genome annotation revealed 58 841 protein-coding genes and 76.91% repetitive sequences, with the dominant repetitive sequences being the I-type repeats (Copia and Gypsy accounting for 18.34% and 13.5% of the genome, respectively). Our findings also provide support for a whole genome duplication event in the lineage leading to A. hybrid, which occurred after its divergence from subfamily Asparagoideae. Moreover, we identified a gene duplication event in the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase kinase (PEPCK) gene family and revealed that three PEPCK genes (PEPCK3, PEPCK5, and PEPCK12) were involved in the CAM pathway. More importantly, we identified transcription factors enriched in the circadian rhythm, MAPK signaling, and plant hormone signal pathway that regulate the PEPCK3 expression by analysing the transcriptome and using yeast one-hybrid assays. Our results shed light on CAM evolution and offer an essential resource for the molecular breeding program of Agave spp.

Genomic Insights into Molecular Regulation Mechanisms of Intramuscular Fat Deposition in Chicken.

Intramuscular fat (IMF) plays an important role in the tenderness, water-holding capacity, and flavor of chicken meat, which directly affect meat quality. In recent years, regulatory mechanisms underlying IMF deposition and the development of effective molecular markers have been hot topics in poultry genetic breeding. Therefore, this review focuses on the current understanding of regulatory mechanisms underlying IMF deposition in chickens, which were identified by multiple genomic approaches, including genome-wide association studies, whole transcriptome sequencing, proteome sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (HiC), DNA methylation sequencing, and m6A methylation sequencing. This review comprehensively and systematically describes genetic and epigenetic factors associated with IMF deposition, which provides a fundamental resource for biomarkers of IMF deposition and provides promising applications for genetic improvement of meat quality in chicken.

Chromosome-scale genome of the human blood fluke Schistosoma mekongi and its implications for public health.

Schistosoma mekongi is a human blood fluke causing schistosomiasis that threatens approximately 1.5 million humans in the world. Nonetheless, the limited available S. mekongi genomic resources have hindered understanding of its biology and parasite-host interactions for disease management and pathogen control. The aim of our study was to integrate multiple technologies to construct a high-quality chromosome-level assembly of the S. mekongi genome. The reference genome for S. mekongi was generated through integrating Illumina, PacBio sequencing, 10 × Genomics linked-read sequencing, and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) methods. In this study, we conducted de novo assembly, alignment, and gene prediction to assemble and annotate the genome. Comparative genomics allowed us to compare genomes across different species, shedding light on conserved regions and evolutionary relationships. Additionally, our transcriptomic analysis focused on genes associated with parasite-snail interactions in S. mekongi infection. We employed gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis for functional annotation of these genes. In the present study, the S. mekongi genome was both assembled into 8 pseudochromosomes with a length of 404Mb, with contig N50 and scaffold N50 lengths of 1168kb and 46,759kb, respectively. We detected that 43% of the genome consists of repeat sequences and predicted 9103 protein-coding genes. We also focused on proteases, particularly leishmanolysin-like metalloproteases (M8), which are crucial in the invasion of hosts by 12 flatworm species. Through phylogenetic analysis, it was discovered that the M8 gene exhibits lineage-specific amplification among the genus Schistosoma. Lineage-specific expansion of M8 was observed in blood flukes. Additionally, the results of the RNA-seq revealed that a mass of genes related to metabolic and biosynthetic processes were up-regulated, which might be beneficial for cercaria production. This study delivers a high-quality, chromosome-scale reference genome of S. mekongi, enhancing our understanding of the divergence and evolution of Schistosoma. The molecular research conducted here also plays a pivotal role in drug discovery and vaccine development. Furthermore, our work greatly advances the understanding of host-parasite interactions, providing crucial insights for schistosomiasis intervention strategies.

Syntenic relationship of chromosomes in Strongyloides species and Rhabditophanes diutinus based on the chromosome-level genome assemblies.

The Strongyloides clade, to which the parasitic nematode genus Strongyloides belongs, contains taxa with diverse lifestyles, ranging from free-living to obligate vertebrate parasites. Reproductive strategies are also diverse in this group of nematodes, employing not only sexual reproduction but also parthenogenesis, making it an attractive group to study genome adaptation to specific conditions. An in-depth understanding of genome evolution, however, has been hampered by fragmented genome assemblies. In this study, we generated chromosome-level genome assemblies for two Strongyloides species and the outgroup species Rhabditophanes diutinus using long-read sequencing and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C). Our synteny analyses revealed a clearer picture of chromosome evolution in this group, suggesting that a functional sex chromosome has been maintained throughout the group. We further investigated sex chromosome dynamics in the lifecycle of Strongyloides ratti and found that bivalent formation in oocytes appears to be important for male production in the mitotic parthenogenesis.
