Destabilization of fluidized beds due to agglomeration part II: Experimental verification

AbstractThe limiting fluidization‐defluidization condition for fluidized beds of sticky particles has been studied experimentally in both low temperature beds in which defluidization occurs due to the presence of sticky fluids and in high temperature beds where agglomeration occurs due to sintering of the granules. The experimental results described herein as well as others taken from the literature are compared to the predictions of the theoretical model developed in Part I of this paper.

A pneumatic probe to detect the presence of gas bubbles in fluidized beds. 1. Method of operation

A probe is presented which enables gas voids in a fluidized bed to be detected reliably at any temperature. It offers minimal interference to the bed and is cheap and simple to construct. It is necessary in the characterisation of fluidized bed phenomena to know the extent to which bubbling occurs. For this reason many techniques have been developed to detect bubbles. All these techniques have the limitation that they cannot be used in high-temperature beds and most have the disadvantage that they obstruct the flow field to a significant degree. This paper presents a probe which offers minimal obstruction and which can be used in beds at any temperature.
