Comparative Study of Academic Library Websites Using Web Content Management Systems

This study aimed to investigate and compare the features and functionality of academic library websites built on Web Content Management Systems (CMS) at four universities in Africa. The specific objectives included examining design and layout, identifying content types and resources, assessing interactivity and engagement, evaluating accessibility and usability, and reviewing performance and maintenance. Analysis of the four websites revealed that the University of Cape Town Libraries stood out for its excellent quality in design, layout, content availability, interactivity, accessibility, usability, and performance. In contrast, the Makerere University Libraries showed areas needing improvement, particularly in design, content accessibility, interactivity, and usability. The University of Pretoria Libraries exhibited high-quality performance across all categories, ensuring a positive user experience. Meanwhile, the University of Nairobi Libraries demonstrated potential for enhancement in design, interactivity, and accessibility, while maintaining strong performance and security. Based on these findings, several recommendations were made to enhance the websites' quality and user experience. For Makerere University Libraries, suggestions included improving design and layout, addressing content gaps, implementing accessible forums, and enhancing responsiveness. For the University of Nairobi Libraries, recommendations focused on improving design, providing accessible resources, incorporating online chat or forums, and enhancing overall accessibility and usability.

Photodamage prediction model and optimal lighting system for polychrome artworks in museum

When lighting polychrome artworks in museum, the light sources are required not only to provide high-quality visual performance, but also to minimize the photodamage. Currently, though there are mature methods to calculate visual performance, how to predict the degree of photodamage remains a challenge, which leads to a lack of light sources satisfying both visual and protection requirements. Our study conducted a series of 294 accelerated aging experiments spanning over 11 years for materials commonly used in Chinese polychrome artworks, using isoenergetic white-light D55 and 10 different wavelengths of narrow-band light as experimental light sources. The mathematical model predicting the photodamage degree caused by intensity (I), exposure time (t), the relative spectral power distribution of the light source (S(λ)), and the irradiated material's relative spectral responsivity (P(λ)) to polychrome artworks was established, and the mean absolute percentage error of the model, as verified by experiments, was 11.63 %. Combined with the existing visual performance calculation methods, an optimal lighting algorithm that simultaneously meets high-quality visual performance and minimum photodamage was developed, followed by developing a new Spectrally Tunable White LEDs (STWLEDs) lighting system with 10 LED chips. It is found that the STWLEDs can adjust and output the optimal spectra and recommended illuminance according to the characteristics of polychrome artworks, thus realizing lighting with minimum photodamage, meanwhile, satisfying high-quality visual performance. After testing, as well as satisfying the requirements of visual performance, the average photodamage is reduced by 40.95 % with STWLEDs compared with the traditional WLEDs.

FONDUE: Robust resolution-invariant denoising of MR Images using Nested UNets

Abstract Recent human magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies continually push the boundaries of spatial resolution as a means to enhance levels of neuroanatomical detail and increase the accuracy and sensitivity of derived brain morphometry measures. However, acquisitions required to achieve these resolutions have a higher noise floor, potentially impacting segmentation and morphometric analysis results. This study proposes a novel, fast, robust, and resolution-invariant deep learning method to denoise structural human brain MRIs. We explore denoising of T1-weighted (T1w) brain images from varying field strengths (1.5T to 7T), voxel sizes (1.2mm to 250µm), scanner vendors (Siemens, GE, and Phillips), and diseased and healthy participants from a wide age range (young adults to aging individuals). Our proposed Fast-Optimized Network for Denoising through residual Unified Ensembles (FONDUE) method demonstrated stable denoising capabilities across multiple resolutions with performance on par or superior to the state-of-the-art methods while being several orders of magnitude faster at low relative cost when using a dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). FONDUE achieved the best performance on at least one of the four denoising-performance metrics on all the test datasets used, showing its generalization capabilities and stability. Due to its high-quality performance, robustness, fast execution times, and relatively low-GPU memory requirements, as well as its open-source public availability, FONDUE can be widely used for structural MRI denoising, especially in large-cohort studies. An empirical study of the level of corruption intolerance among the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

ObjectivesThe report presents the objective need to measure the level of corruption intolerance in the public sector and its importance for the formation of specific behavior aimed at the observance of important value principles in the performance of official duties in the public sector. The activity of the state administration should justify society's expectations of professional competence, legality, loyalty, correctness and responsibility. That is why corruption intolerance can be accepted as a factor for measuring the quality of activity in the public sector. The empirical research on the corruption intolerance in the Ministry of the Intenal Affairs is an important indicator for the efficiency of the system.MethodsThe scientific methodology used is a combination of a theoretical review of the issue, a critical scientific review and the presentation of new scientific advances in the measurement of corruption intolerance.ResultsThe rates of corruption intolerance in the Ministry of Internal Affairs are satisfactory.ConclusionsThere is an objective need to maintain a high level of motivation and effectiveness of training to achieve high-quality professional performance of official duties among the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Therefore, Dynamic socio-economic changes necessitate a new approach to the problems of measuring the corruption intolerance.

Effects of Stretch-Bending Straightening on the Tensile Properties of Cold Rolled Packaging Steel

Achieving perfect flatness, tension-free surfaces, and exceptional resistance to spring back are important characteristics of packaging steel, setting the standard for high-quality material performance. To guarantee these crucial parameters, the implementation of the stretch-bending process at the final stage of the production route is indispensable. Besides improving the flatness properties, the induced plastic deformation results in an accompanying change in the mechanical properties. This investigation focuses on understanding this change in mechanical properties due to different stretch-bending straightening process parameters. A multivariate predictive model is created to calculate a process window for achieving the desired flatness and also mechanical properties in the production of packaging steel. This model is validated by experiments with a laboratory facility.

Determinant state earnings qualities better than Private Pharmaceutical Companies

Purpose: Comparative Earning Quality of State and privately pharmaceutical companies listed on Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) between 2019-2023 period with liquidity, profitability, solvency and efficiency ratio. Methodology/approach: After collecting the necessary data, appropriate financial ratios and descriptive statistical techniques are used to analyze, interpret and provide a brief overview of the data collected. the comparison involves two state-owned and two privately-owned pharmaceutical discretionary accruals and earnings persistence for earnings quality, and net profit margin, current ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, and total asset turnover for financial performance measurements. Findings: net profit margin, current ratio, debt to equity ratio, dan total asset turnover have significant differences in the variables private are superior to those of state pharmaceutical companies. This recommends the importance of improving earnings quality of State pharmaceutical companies Practical implications: these companies should refrain from earnings manipulation to foster strong and high-quality financial performance, particularly within Indonesia's pharmaceutical sector. Originality/value: This comparison aims to contribute to financial management research by providing insights into the performance of different types of pharmaceutical companies based on earnings quality and financial statement ratios, thus offering academic contributions to the field.

High thermally stable and efficient rare-earth celsian by phase transformation of Ba2+-Exchanged SOD zeolite

The white LEDs with high performance and excellent luminous quality is of high importance for developing the current lighting industry, and high thermally stable blue phosphors play a critical role in the preparation of white LEDs. Herein, we reported a facile way to obtain highly efficient blue Eu2+-doped celsian phosphor with excellent thermal stability by a phase transformation of Ba2+-exchanged SOD Zeolite strategy. The structure of phosphors changed from nepheline to celsian with the doping of Ba2+, and the maximum emission intensity blue-shifts from 550 nm to 450 nm under the excitation of 370 nm. The PLQY is determined to be 56 %, 96 % and 82 % for the phosphor with Ba2+ doping concentration being 0, 1.49 and 1.86, respectively, and the luminescence intensity at 423 K is can be 80 %, 102 % and 93 % of its intensity at room temperature. Finally, the package of the LED device based on our yellow and blue phosphors together with the commercial red CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ phosphor is constructed to show warm white light with the CCT of 3705 K and a high CRI of 97.7. This study provides a facile way for obtaining satisfactory phosphors for high-quality lighting.

Development of nursing students' professional identity in different mentoring approaches during clinical training: A quasi-experimental study

BackgroundThe professional identity (PI) of nursing students' is essential for high quality performance and safe healthcare. Clinical training plays a key role in the development of professional identity during nursing studies. AimThe aim of this study was to investigate the impact of individual and group mentoring approaches on the development of PI during clinical training, as well as the influence of the order in which these approaches are applied, and the effect of time on the development of PI. DesignThis study used a quasi-experimental design. SettingsThe study was conducted at the Department of Health Studies in Croatia. ParticipantsThe 119 first, second, and third year ungraduate nursing students. MethodsStudents were divided into two groups. Each group performed clinical training in group and individual mentoring approaches, but in different order. The Professional Identity Five Factor Scale (PIFFS) was used to measure PI levels at four different time points: immediately before and after the first and second rounds of clinical exercises. ResultsBoth groups of students, achieved approximately average results in all three dimensions of the PI. There was no statistically significant main effect of the group/individual mentoring approach on the dimensions of knowledge (P = 0.471), experience (P = 0.865) or perception of role model and professional future (P = 0.565). The levels of the dimensions knowledge (P = 0.001), experience (P = 0.001) or perception of the role model and professional future (P = 0.002) differed in four measurement points, which indicates a general increase in all three PI dimensions. ConclusionsDuring the performance of the clinical training, the level of PI increased. The group mentoring approach has an immediate effect on increasing knowledge, but this effect diminishes over time. In terms of experience, both mentoring approaches have similar reinforcing effects. However, the individual approach seems to be more suitable for improving the perception of role models and the professional future.

Whose democratization matters? Understanding the effects of regime change on normative changes in ASEAN

AbstractThis article aims to elucidate the varying effects of democratization in ASEAN members on the normative changes in the core principles of the “ASEAN Way.” Utilizing a regional-centric approach that emphasizes ASEAN members’ agency, the article posits that two critical variables shape the changing trajectory of ASEAN norms: ASEAN members' democratic performances and their regional status. While an ASEAN member’s democratic performance influences its willingness to advocate for normative changes, its regional status is also crucial in determining its capability to implement changes by navigating the divergent interests among ASEAN members. Only the ASEAN member with a high-quality democratic performance at home and recognized regional leadership can effectively bring about normative changes to ASEAN norms. Otherwise, either the domestic democratic deficit or a lack of leadership status will hinder the ASEAN members’ efforts to promote normative changes. Using the process-tracing method, the article empirically focuses on the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia for comparative case studies. The findings reveal that the Philippines’ poor democratic performance since the democratic restoration in 1986 has hindered its motivation to push for normative changes in ASEAN, rendering the Philippines a reluctant promoter. Although Thailand has made notable achievements in democratic consolidation since the downfall of junta rule in 1992, its lack of regional leadership has greatly limited its capability to reconcile the divergent interests among ASEAN members, resulting in the failure of its “flexible engagement” initiative. Conversely, Indonesia, with a high-quality democratic performance at home and bolstered by its regional leadership status, successfully brought significant changes to ASEAN norms by facilitating the ASEAN Charter signed in 2007.

Psychological Aspects of a Police Officer’s Professional Success

The article analyses the general concept of human success from various psychological and scientific perspectives, as well as the concept of “a police officer’s professional success” separately, since it plays an important role for both the individual and society at the present stage of society development. The author emphasises that at the scientific and legislative levels there are no explanations and clarifications as to who is a professionally successful police officer. The study provides a generalised analysis of police officers’ powers, among which the main ones are highlighted which every police officer must perform regardless of their position, length of service and other factors. The importance of professional training of police officers during their service is also emphasised. To determine the level of success of a police officer’s professional activity, it is proposed to take into account a combination of two components – external and internal. The external component of police officers’ activity includes professional development, which is characterized by the level of performance of the main professional tasks based on knowledge of the principles and powers of the National Police of Ukraine at the legislative level. The internal component includes individual psychological properties of a police officer, which to a certain extent ensure efficient and high-quality performance of functional duties. In addition, the importance of social intelligence as a means of effective and comfortable interaction with the public is emphasised. Particular attention is paid to the coping strategy of a police officer, which allows him/her to effectively cope with stressful situations arising during the performance of official tasks. Through the analysis of the main powers of police officers, the need for them to have emotional intelligence, which includes such components as empathy, understanding, recognition and the ability to manage their own and other people’s emotions, is determined. Moreover, the article shows the importance for police work of such an individual property of a person as the level of internality, which determines the ability of a person to control and manage his/her behaviour, take responsibility for his/her own actions, influence the formation and development of such internal factors as motivation, efficiency of decision-making in stressful situations. Finally, it is concluded that the interrelation of external and internal components is important for determining the level of professional success of a police officer.

MANAGEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES: THE STUDY OF SOCIOLOGICAL METHODS

The article deals with topical issues of managing the activities of an organization such as a student dormitory. The authors pose the problem that the majority of dormitories provided by Russian universities do not meet the requirements of modernity. Students face various problems in both social and domestic spheres. The authors show that, among other things, this state of affairs is associated with poor-quality implementation of the management process. The head of any organization, any institution assumes responsibility for the high-quality performance of the powers assigned to him. Improper performance of one's duties in managing a student dormitory can lead to a number of serious problems. The article discusses those sociological methods that allow us to study the managerial aspect of the organization's activities – student dormitories.

Core Components of Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs: 2024 Update: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

The science of cardiac rehabilitation and the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease has progressed substantially since the most recent American Heart Association and American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation update on the core components of cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention programs was published in 2007. In addition, the advent of new care models, including virtual and remote delivery of cardiac rehabilitation services, has expanded the ways that cardiac rehabilitation programs can reach patients. In this scientific statement, we update the scientific basis of the core components of patient assessment, nutritional counseling, weight management and body composition, cardiovascular disease and risk factor management, psychosocial management, aerobic exercise training, strength training, and physical activity counseling. In addition, in recognition that high-quality cardiac rehabilitation programs regularly monitor their processes and outcomes and engage in an ongoing process of quality improvement, we introduce a new core component of program quality. High-quality program performance will be essential to improve widely documented low enrollment and adherence rates and reduce health disparities in cardiac rehabilitation access.

Quality Indicators for Pain in Adults: A Review of Performance Measures by the American College of Physicians.

Pain is a debilitating symptom generally caused by injuries or various conditions. It can be acute, subacute, or chronic and can have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life. The goal of managing pain is to relieve or reduce suffering and improve patient functioning. Several performance measures that address the treatment of pain are used in payment, public reporting, or accountability programs. The American College of Physicians (ACP) embraces performance measurement as a means to improve quality of care. ACP believes that a performance measure must be methodologically sound and evidence-based to be considered for inclusion in payment, accountability, or reporting programs. However, a plethora of performance measures that provide minimal or no value to patient care have inundated physicians, practices, and systems with the burden of collecting and reporting data. ACP's Performance Measurement Committee (PMC) reviews performance measures using a validated process to recognize high-quality performance measures, address gaps and areas for improvement in performance measures, and help reduce reporting burden. There is a need for a higher standard for a performance measure when reputation and reimbursement are on the line. This paper aims to present a review of current performance measures for pain to inform physicians, payers, and policymakers in their selection and use of performance measures. The PMC reviewed 6 performance measures for pain relevant to internal medicine physicians, of which 3 were considered valid at their intended levels of attribution ("Use of Imaging for Low Back Pain," "Use of Opioids at High Dosage in Persons Without Cancer," and "Use of Opioids From Multiple Providers in Persons Without Cancer"). This paper also proposes a performance measure concept to address a quality-of-care gap based on the current clinical guideline from ACP and the American Academy of Family Physicians, "Nonpharmacologic and Pharmacologic Management of Acute Pain From Non-low Back, Musculoskeletal Injuries in Adults."

Evolution and modeling of texture changes and drying kinetics of bamboo shoots under high-humidity air-impingement blanching.

This study investigated the effect of hot water blanching (HWB), high-humidity air-impingement blanching (HHAIB), different HHAIB blanching times (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10min), and different HHAIB blanching temperatures (80, 85, 90, and 95°C) on texture quality, lignin content, weight loss, color, microstructure, and drying kinetics of bamboo shoots. After HWB treatment, the lignin content of bamboo shoots was apparently lower than that of HHAIB and the samples obtained the highest weight loss value of 6.13%. Both the texture values (brittleness and chewiness) and lignin content of bamboo shoots exhibited an overall downward trend as the HHAIB blanching time and blanching temperature increased. Specifically, the lignin content of bamboo shoots decreased from 5.59% to 4.58% with an increase in HHAIB blanching time from 2 to 10min and dropped from 5.48% to 4.63% as HHAIB blanching temperature increased from 80 to 85°C, respectively. The lignin content was proved to be positively correlated (p<0.05) with texture attributes (brittleness and chewiness). A second polynomial model was obtained for fitting the variation kinetics of lignin content during thermal processing. Reducing the HHAIB blanching time and blanching temperature would obtain a lower weight loss and a better color performance (ΔE and L*). Additionally, microstructure observation revealed that the distribution density of microchannels initially increased and then decreased with the extension of blanching time, while it continuously became firmer as HHAIB blanching temperature increased. Overall, the optimal processing parameters were achieved under the HHAIB blanching temperature of 85°C for 6min, ensuring a high-quality performance of bamboo shoot products.

An encryption algorithm for color images based on an improved dual-chaotic system combined with DNA encoding

This study improves the Logistic chaotic system and combines it with the hyperchaotic Chen system to create a dual chaotic system. The algorithm encrypts images in three stages. In the first stage, a plaintext-related key generation scheme is designed to generate the parameters and initial values of the dual chaotic system. In the second stage, the chaotic sequences generated by the dual chaotic system are used for dynamic DNA encoding and computation. In the third stage, the chaotic sequences generated by the improved Logistic chaotic system are used to perform row-column permutations, completing the scrambling. The security analysis of the encrypted images shows that the algorithm described in this paper is robust and secure, capable of resisting most known attacks. The algorithm is fast in encryption, provides high-quality image reconstruction, and is suitable for scenarios with high comprehensive performance and image quality requirements.

Steering them softly with a quality label? A case study analysis of a patient channelling strategy without financial incentives.

Steering patients to lower priced and/or higher quality providers can increase the value of a healthcare system. In a managed care setting, health insurers may use financial incentives for this purpose. However, introducing cost-sharing differences among providers may cause enrolee discontent, which may result in disenrollment. Simply informing and guiding enrolees to preferred providers without financial incentives may therefore be an attractive alternative for insurers. But the effectiveness of such a soft channelling strategy is unclear. This paper investigates whether a Dutch health insurer's strategy of designating preferred hospitals for breast cancer surgery and for inguinal hernia repair affected its enrolees' hospital choices. In October 2008, preferred hospitals received a quality label ('TopCare') because of their high-quality performances in previous years. The insurer recommended these hospitals to enrolees without a financial incentive. Individual patient-level claims data from the insurer over a 5-year period (2006-2010) and a conditional logit choice model was used. Our study samples for breast cancer surgery and inguinal hernia repair included 7985 and 17,292 patients, respectively. It is found that for both procedures, patients ex ante already had a certain preference for the hospitals designated by the insurer as top-quality providers, even when considering possible additional travel time. Also, for both procedures, patient choice did not differ significantly before and after the launch of the TopCare label. The quality label did not increase patient demand for preferred hospitals. Thus, the insurer's strategy to steer patients to preferred hospital alternatives without a financial incentive was not effective.

PID Controller Design for an E. coli Fed-Batch Fermentation Process System Using Chaotic Electromagnetic Field Optimization

This paper presents an optimal tuning of a proportional integral differential (PID) controller used to maintain glucose concentration at a desired set point. The PID controller synthesizes an appropriate feed rate profile for an E. coli fed-batch cultivation process. Mathematical models are developed based on dynamic mass balance equations for biomass, substrate, and product concentration of the E. coli BL21(DE3)pPhyt109 fed-batch cultivation for bacterial phytase extracellular production. For model parameter identification and PID tuning, a hybrid metaheuristic technique—chaotic electromagnetic field optimization (CEFO)—is proposed. In the hybridization, a chaotic map is used for the generation of a new electromagnetic particle instead of the electromagnetic field optimization (EFO) search strategy. The CEFO combines the exploitation capability of the EFO algorithm and the exploration power of ten different chaotic maps. The comparison of the results with classical EFO shows the superior behaviour of the designed CEFO. An improvement of 30% of the objective function is achieved by applying CEFO. Based on the obtained mathematical models, 10 PID controllers are tuned. The simulation experiments show that the designed controllers are robust, resulting in a good control system performance. The closed-loop transient responses for the corresponding controllers are similar to the estimated models. The settling time of the control system based on the third PID controller for all estimated models is approximately 9 min and the overshoot is approximately 15%. The proposed CEFO algorithm can be considered an effective methodology for mathematical modelling and achievement of high quality and better performance of the designed closed-loop system for cultivation processes.

Compact freeform near-eye display system design enabled by optical-digital joint optimization

The near-eye display (NED) systems, designed to project content into the human eye, are pivotal in the realms of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), offering users immersive experiences. A small volume is the key for a fashionable, easy-to-wear, comfortable NED system for industrial and consumer use. Freeform surfaces can significantly reduce the system volume and weight while improving the system specifications. However, great challenges still exist in further reducing the volume of near-eye display systems as there is also a limit when using only freeform optics. This paper introduces a novel method for designing compact freeform NED systems through a powerful optical–digital joint design. The method integrates a geometrical freeform optical design with deep learning of an image compensation neural network, addressing off-axis nonsymmetric structures with complex freeform surfaces. A design example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Specifically, the volume of a freeform NED system is reduced by approximately 63% compared to the system designed by the traditional method, while still maintaining high-quality display performance. The proposed method opens a new pathway for the design of a next-generation ultra-compact NED system.

Recent Fundamental Advances in Quality of High-Performance and Highly-Scaled Carbon Nanotube Transistors

Recently a number of breakthroughs have been reported by our team in the component qualities of transistors built on Carbon Nanotube (CNT) channels. However, any emerging channel material which seeks to outperform established semiconductors for transistor logic applications has a substantial hill to climb, given the incredible capabilities of advanced Si-based logic technology platforms. This talk will first aim to frame our progress on Carbon Nanotube CMOS technology in the broader context of the value proposition and desired component qualities needed to realize practical impact in computing applications. Next, we will share advances in the fundamental building blocks for Carbon Nanotube transistors towards these targets including channel, contact, doping, and gate-stack modules. Finally we will describe new record CNT MOSFET performance milestones achieved by integrating best available device components for first time, which gives insight into the remaining performance limiters and future directions.[1] G. Study on Mechanical and Electrical Properties of High Content CNTs/Cu Composites.

It is expected that composites made of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and copper (Cu) display both mechanical and electrical properties, but the low damage dispersion and high-quality composite of high-content CNTs have always been research difficulties. In this paper, high-content CNTs/Cu composites were prepared. The effects of the sintering method, sintering temperature, directional rolling and the CNTs' content on the relative density, hardness and electrical conductivity of the composites were studied. The uniform dispersion of high-content CNTs in Cu matrix was achieved by ball milling, sintering and rolling, and the processes did not cause more damage to the CNTs. The properties of composites prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) and vacuum hot pressing sintering (HPS) were compared, and the optimum process parameters of SPS were determined. When the CNTs' content is 2 wt.%, the hardness is 134.9 HBW, which is still 2.3 times that of pure Cu, and the conductivity is the highest, reaching 78.4%IACS. This study provides an important reference for the high-quality preparation and performance evaluation of high-content CNTs/Cu composites.
