SWAP Gate between a Majorana Qubit and a Parity-Protected Superconducting Qubit

High fidelity quantum information processing requires a combination of fast gates and long-lived quantum memories. In this Letter, we propose a hybrid architecture, where a parity-protected superconducting qubit is directly coupled to a Majorana qubit, which plays the role of a quantum memory. The superconducting qubit is based upon a π-periodic Josephson junction realized with gate-tunable semiconducting wires, where the tunneling of individual Cooper pairs is suppressed. One of the wires additionally contains four Majorana zero modes that define a qubit. We demonstrate that this enables the implementation of a SWAP gate, allowing for the transduction of quantum information between the topological and conventional qubit. This architecture combines fast gates, which can be realized with the superconducting qubit, with a topologically protected Majorana memory.

Protected two-qubit entangling gate with mechanical driven continuous dynamical decoupling

In this work, we propose a high-fidelity phonon-mediated entangling gate in a hybrid mechanical system based on two silicon-vacancy color centers in diamond. In order to suppress the influence of the spin decoherence on the entangling gate, we use a continuous dynamical decoupling approach to create new dressed spin states, which are less sensitive to environmental fluctuations and exhibit an extended spin dephasing time. The effective spin–spin Hamiltonian modified by the mechanical driving field and the corresponding master equation are derived in the dispersive regime. We show that in the presence of the mechanical driving field, the effective spin–spin coupling can be highly controlled. By calculating the entangling gate fidelity in the dressed basis, we find that once the mechanical field is turned on, the gate fidelity can be significantly improved. In particular, under an optimized spin-phonon detuning and a stronger Rabi frequency of the mechanical driving field, the two-qubit gate is capable of reaching fidelity exceeding 0.99. Moreover, by employing appropriate driving modulation, we show that a high-fidelity full quantum gate can be also realized, in which the initial and final spin states are on a bare basis. Our work provides a promising scheme for realizing high-fidelity quantum information processing.

High-Dimensional Frequency-Encoded Quantum Information Processing with Passive Photonics and Time-Resolving Detection.

In this Letter, we propose a new approach to process high-dimensional quantum information encoded in a photon frequency domain. In contrast to previous approaches based on nonlinear optical processes, no active control of photon energy is required. Arbitrary unitary transformation and projection measurement can be realized with passive photonic circuits and time-resolving detection. A systematic circuit design for a quantum frequency comb with arbitrary size has been given. The criteria to verify quantum frequency correlation has been derived. By considering the practical condition of the detector's finite response time, we show that high-fidelity operation can be readily realized with current device performance. This work will pave the way towards scalable and high-fidelity quantum information processing based on high-dimensional frequency encoding.

Suppression of quantum noise by two-mode squeezed states for photon propagation under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency and four-wave mixing

Quantum vacuum noise is very detrimental for photon propagation and optical quantum memory, which particularly occurs in optically thick atomic media working under the condition of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) accompanied by a process of four-wave mixing (FWM). The suppression of quantum vacuum noise becomes now an imperative task for advancing the research and application of quantum memory. Here we present a scheme to suppress quantum vacuum noise and hence to improve the fidelity of photon propagation, by assuming that signal and idler laser fields are initially prepared in a two-mode squeezed vacuum state. With such a scheme, we show that the normal gain mode inherent in the EIT-based FWM system, which contributes optical gain to both the signal and idler fields, can be largely inhibited, giving rise to a significant suppression of the quantum vacuum noise along with their amplification and hence a large enhancement of the fidelity for photon propagation. The results reported here may have promising applications for high-fidelity quantum information processing and transformation, especially for improving the quality of multimode optical quantum memory based on EIT techniques.

Parallel Implementation of High-Fidelity Multiqubit Gates with Neutral Atoms.

We report the implementation of universal two- and three-qubit entangling gates on neutral-atom qubits encoded in long-lived hyperfine ground states. The gates are mediated by excitation to strongly interacting Rydberg states and are implemented in parallel on several clusters of atoms in a one-dimensional array of optical tweezers. Specifically, we realize the controlled-phase gate, enacted by a novel, fast protocol involving only global coupling of two qubits to Rydberg states. We benchmark this operation by preparing Bell states with fidelity F≥95.0(2)%, and extract gate fidelity ≥97.4(3)%, averaged across five atom pairs. In addition, we report a proof-of-principle implementation of the three-qubit Toffoli gate, in which two control atoms simultaneously constrain the behavior of one target atom. These experiments demonstrate key ingredients for high-fidelity quantum information processing in a scalable neutral-atom platform.

Electro-Optic Frequency Beam Splitters and Tritters for High-Fidelity Photonic Quantum Information Processing.

We report the experimental realization of high-fidelity photonic quantum gates for frequency-encoded qubits and qutrits based on electro-optic modulation and Fourier-transform pulse shaping. Our frequency version of the Hadamard gate offers near-unity fidelity (0.99998±0.00003), requires only a single microwave drive tone for near-ideal performance, functions across the entire C band (1530-1570nm), and can operate concurrently on multiple qubits spaced as tightly as four frequency modes apart, with no observable degradation in the fidelity. For qutrits, we implement a 3×3 extension of the Hadamard gate: the balanced tritter. This tritter-the first ever demonstrated for frequency modes-attains fidelity 0.9989±0.0004. These gates represent important building blocks toward scalable, high-fidelity quantum information processing based on frequency encoding.

Fault-tolerant composite Householder reflection

We propose a fault-tolerant implementation of the quantum Householder reflection, which is a key operation in various quantum algorithms, quantum-state engineering, generation of arbitrary unitaries, and entanglement characterization. We construct this operation using the modular approach of composite pulses and a relation between the Householder reflection and the quantum phase gate. The proposed implementation is highly insensitive to variations in the experimental parameters, which makes it suitable for high-fidelity quantum information processing.

High-Fidelity Adiabatic Passage by Composite Sequences of Chirped Pulses

We present a method for optimization of the technique of adiabatic passage between two quantum states by composite sequences of frequency-chirped pulses with specific relative phases: composite adiabatic passage (CAP). By choosing the composite phases appropriately the nonadiabatic losses can be canceled to any desired order with sufficiently long sequences, regardless of the nonadiabatic coupling. The values of the composite phases are universal for they do not depend on the pulse shapes and the chirp. The accuracy of the CAP technique and its robustness against parameter variations make CAP suitable for high-fidelity quantum information processing.

Smooth composite pulses for high-fidelity quantum information processing

We present a systematic SU(2) approach for construction of composite sequences of pulses with smooth temporal shapes that produce high-fidelity two-state excitation profiles. This makes possible the application of composite pulses to quantum control and quantum information processing with short and ultrashort laser pulses. We present an exact analytic formula for the composite phases for arbitrarily accurate broadband pulses and examples of narrowband, passband, and fractional-$\ensuremath{\pi}$ pulses as well as composite pulses with detuning compensation.

Scheme for realizing quantum computation and quantum information transfer with superconducting qubits coupling to a 1D transmission line resonator

This paper proposes a simple scheme for realizing one-qubit and two-qubit quantum gates as well as multiqubit entanglement based on dc-SQUID charge qubits through the control of their coupling to a 1D transmission line resonator (TLR). The TLR behaves effectively as a quantum data-bus mode of a harmonic oscillator, which has several practical advantages including strong coupling strength, reproducibility, immunity to 1/f noise, and suppressed spontaneous emission. In this protocol, the data-bus does not need to stay adiabatically in its ground state, which results in not only fast quantum operation, but also high-fidelity quantum information processing. Also, it elaborates the transfer process with the 1D transmission line.

Scalable Generation of Cluster State for Multiple Hot Trapped Ions

We propose an alternative scheme for preparing N-qubit cluster state by using a frequency-modulated laser field to simultaneously illuminate the trapped ions. Selecting the index of modulation yields the selective mechanisms of coupling and decoupling between the internal and external states of the ions. Based on the selective mechanisms, the highly entangled cluster state is achieved. In our scheme, the vibration mode is only virtually excited. Thus the quantum operations are insensitive to the heating and lead to the high-fidelity quantum information processing.

Simple unconventional geometric scenario of one-way quantum computation with superconducting qubits inside a cavity

We propose a simple unconventional geometric scenario to achieve a kind of nontrivial multiqubit operation with superconducting charge qubits placed in a microwave cavity. The proposed quantum operations are insensitive not only to the thermal state of the cavity mode but also to certain random operation errors, and thus may lead to high-fidelity quantum-information processing. By executing the designated quantum operations, a class of highly entangled cluster states may be generated efficiently in the present scalable solid-state system, enabling one to achieve one-way quantum computation.

Geometric Quantum Computation and Multiqubit Entanglement with Superconducting Qubits inside a Cavity

We analyze a new scheme for quantum information processing, with superconducting charge qubits coupled through a cavity mode, in which quantum manipulations are insensitive to the state of the cavity. We illustrate how to physically implement universal quantum computation as well as multiqubit entanglement based on unconventional geometric phase shifts in this scalable solid-state system. Some quantum error-correcting codes can also be easily constructed using the same technique. In view of the gate dependence on just global geometric features and the insensitivity to the state of cavity modes, the proposed quantum operations may result in high-fidelity quantum information processing.
