Mass spectral fragmentation of perfluoroacyl derivatives of half nitrogen mustards for their detection by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.

Analytical methods for the detection and identification of half nitrogen mustards (halfNMs), i.e., partially hydrolyzed products of nitrogen mustards (pHpNMs), using silyl derivatives are often associated with low sensitivity and selectivity. In order to overcome these limitations, the derivatization of halfNMs was performed using perfluoroacylation. Two efficient derivatization techniques using trifluoroacetyl (TFA) and heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) groups were developed for the unambiguous identification of halfNMs. A mass spectral database was generated by performing gas chromatography/electron ionization mass spectrometry (GC/EI-MS) and gas chromatography/positive chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC/PCI-MS). The fragmentation pathways were studied by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) in both EI and PCI mode. The EI-MS spectra of the TFA and HFB derivatives of halfNMs contain intense molecular ions and fragment ions, thus making perfluoroacylation preferable to silylation. In addition, the background-free chromatogram obtained using these derivatives provides unambiguous identification of these compounds in blind samples. The structures of the fragment ions were postulated, and the sources of significant ions were traced by performing MS/MS precursor ion scans. In the PCI-MS spectra, along with the protonated molecule, significant peaks due to neutral losses of HF, HCl, CH3 Cl and CF3 COOH were observed. This is the first report of the elucidation of the fragmentation pathways of perfluoroacyl derivatives of halfNMs. The complementary GC/PCI-MS and GC/PCI-MS/MS data will be helpful in the identification of unknown metabolites in a fast and reliable fashion.

Electron Ionization Mass Spectra of Trimethylsilyl–Pentafluoropropionyl and Trimethylsilyl–Heptafluorobutyryl Derivatives of β-Adrenoreceptor Modulators

The paper presents proposals for the mass spectrometric determination of β-adrenoreceptor modulators by bifunctional derivatization with N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide followed by acylation with pentafluoropropionic or heptafluorobutyric anhydrides with a description of the derivatives obtained.

Quantitative Analysis of Structural Isomers of Linear Pentaamines by GC–MS

Structural isomers of long linear polyamines are often highly difficult to differentially quantify due to their structural similarities. In this study, we focused on pentaamines, aminopropylcanavalmine [H2N(CH2)3NH(CH2)4NH(CH2)3NH(CH2)4NH2, (3-4-3-4)] and N1-aminopropyl-N8-aminobutylspermidine [H2N(CH2)3NH(CH2)3NH(CH2)4NH(CH2)4NH2, (3-3-4-4)], which have never been separated. We analyzed a mixture of the heptafluorobutyryl derivatives of these pentaamines by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and found that the polyamine content and intensity of the unique fragment ions detected in MS spectra exhibited a strong correlation. The calibration curves of appropriate combinations of the peak intensities versus pentaamine mixing ratios showed high linearity (r > 0.99) in the mixing ratio range of 0–2.33. These data indicated that the pentaamine content in the pentaamine mixed solutions could be determined using appropriate calibration curves. Therefore, this method can potentially be applied to measure the pentaamine content of biological samples.

A mass spectrometric method to determine activities of enzymes involved in polyamine catabolism

An analytical method for the determination of three polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) and five acetylpolyamines [N1-acetylspermidine (N1AcSpd), N8-acetylspermidine (N8AcSpd), N1-acetylspermine, N1,N8-diacetylspermidine, and N1,N12-diacetylspermine] involved in the polyamine catabolic pathway has been developed using a hybrid tandem mass spectrometer. Heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivatives of these compounds and respective internal standards labeled with stable isotopes were analyzed simultaneously by TOF MS, based on peak areas appearing at appropriate m/z values. The isomers, N1AcSpd and N8AcSpd were determined from their fragment ions, the acetylamidopropyl and acetylamidobutyl groups, respectively, using MS/MS with 13C2-N1AcSpd and 13C2-N8AcSpd which have the 13C2-acetyl group as an internal standard. The TOF MS method was successfully applied to measure the activity of enzymes involved in polyamine catabolic pathways, namely N1-acetylpolyamine oxidase (APAO), spermine oxidase (SMO), and spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT). The following natural substrates and products labeled with stable isotopes considering the application to biological samples were identified; for APAO, [4,9,12-15N3]-N1-acetylspermine and [1,4,8-15N3]spermidine (15N3-Spd), respectively; for SMO, [1,4,8,12-15N4]spermine and 15N3-Spd, respectively; and for SSAT, 15N3-Spd and [1,4,8-15N3]-N1-acetylspermidine, respectively.

Exposure of Mycobacteria to Cell Wall-inhibitory Drugs Decreases Production of Arabinoglycerolipid Related to Mycolyl-arabinogalactan-peptidoglycan Metabolism

The "cell wall core" consisting of a mycolyl-arabinogalactan-peptidoglycan (mAGP) complex represents the hallmark of the mycobacterial cell envelope. It has been the focus of intense research at both structural and biosynthetic levels during the past few decades. Because it is essential, mAGP is also regarded as a target for several antitubercular drugs. Herein, we demonstrate that exposure of Mycobacterium bovis Bacille Calmette-Guérin or Mycobacterium marinum to thiacetazone, a second line antitubercular drug, is associated with a severe decrease in the level of a major apolar glycolipid. This inhibition requires MmaA4, a methyltransferase reported to participate in the activation process of thiacetazone. Following purification, this glycolipid was subjected to detailed structural analyses, combining gas-liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. This allowed to identify it as a 5-O-mycolyl-β-Araf-(1→2)-5-O-mycolyl-α-Araf-(1→1)-Gro, designated dimycolyl diarabinoglycerol (DMAG). The presence of DMAG was subsequently confirmed in other slow growing pathogenic species, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. DMAG production was stimulated in the presence of exogenous glycerol. Interestingly, DMAG appears structurally identical to the terminal portion of the mycolylated arabinosyl motif of mAGP, and the metabolic relationship between these two components was provided using antitubercular drugs such as ethambutol or isoniazid known to inhibit the biosynthesis of arabinogalactan or mycolic acid, respectively. Finally, DMAG was identified in the cell wall of M. tuberculosis. This opens the possibility of a potent biological function for DMAG that may be important to mycobacterial pathogenesis.

Dispersive derivatization liquid–liquid extraction of degradation products/precursors of mustards and V-agents from aqueous samples

A new derivatization and extraction technique termed as dispersive derivatization liquid–liquid extraction (DDLLE) speeds up the analysis process by removing the requirement for drying of the sample. The derivatization process takes place at the interface between the analyte containing aqueous phase and derivatization agent laden organic phase. The organic phase is highly dispersed using disperser solvent so that the total surface area is large. The derivatizing agent used is 1-(heptafluorobutyryl)imidazole and the resulting heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivatized analytes are partitioned into the organic phase. In addition to reduced sample preparation time, for some of the analytes, the HFB derivatives provide better spectral differentiation between isomers than conventional trimethylsilyl (TMS) derivatives. Method parameters for the DDLLE, such as extraction, and disperser solvent and their volume, type and amount of base, amount of heptafluorobutyrylimidazole and extraction time were optimized on diisopropylaminoethanol (DiPAE), ethyldiethanolamine (EDEA), triethanolamine (TEA) and thiodiglycol (TDG). The DDLLE was also used on various real world samples, which also includes few OPCW organized proficiency test and a spiked urine sample. The observed limit of detection (LOD) with 1 mL of sample for DDLLE in full scan with AMDIS was 10 ng/mL and with methane chemical ionization, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was 100 pg/mL, i.e., 100 fg on-column.

A Drug Toxicity Death Involving Propylhexedrine and Mitragynine*

A death involving abuse of propylhexedrine and mitragynine is reported. Propylhexedrine is a potent α-adrenergic sympathomimetic amine found in nasal decongestant inhalers. The decedent was found dead in his living quarters with no signs of physical trauma. Analysis of his computer showed information on kratom, a plant that contains mitragynine, which produces opiumlike effects at high doses and stimulant effects at low doses, and a procedure to concentrate propylhexedrine from over-the-counter inhalers. Toxicology results revealed the presence of 1.7 mg/L propylhexedrine and 0.39 mg/L mitragynine in his blood. Both drugs, as well as acetaminophen, morphine, and promethazine, were detected in the urine. Quantitative results were achieved by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry monitoring selected ions for the propylhexedrine heptafluorobutyryl derivative. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in multiple reactions monitoring mode was used to obtain quantitative results for mitragynine. The cause of death was ruled propylhexedrine toxicity, and the manner of death was ruled accidental. Mitragynine may have contributed as well, but as there are no published data for drug concentrations, the medical examiner did not include mitragynine toxicity in the cause of death. This is the first known publication of a case report involving propylhexedrine and mitragynine.

Quantitative Plasma Biomarker Analysis in HDI Exposure Assessment

Quantification of amines in biological samples is important for evaluating occupational exposure to diisocyanates. In this study, we describe the quantification of 1,6-hexamethylene diamine (HDA) levels in hydrolyzed plasma of 46 spray painters applying 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-containing paint in vehicle repair shops collected during repeated visits to their workplace and their relationship with dermal and inhalation exposure to HDI monomer. HDA was detected in 76% of plasma samples, as heptafluorobutyryl derivatives, and the range of HDA concentrations was < or =0.02-0.92 microg l(-1). After log-transformation of the data, the correlation between plasma HDA levels and HDI inhalation exposure measured on the same workday was low (N = 108, r = 0.22, P = 0.026) compared with the correlation between plasma HDA levels and inhalation exposure occurring approximately 20 to 60 days before blood collection (N = 29, r = 0.57, P = 0.0014). The correlation between plasma HDA levels and HDI dermal exposure measured on the same workday, although statistically significant, was low (N = 108, r = 0.22, P = 0.040) while the correlation between HDA and dermal exposure occurring approximately 20 to 60 days before blood collection was slightly improved (N = 29, r = 0.36, P = 0.053). We evaluated various workplace factors and controls (i.e. location, personal protective equipment use and paint booth type) as modifiers of plasma HDA levels. Workers using a downdraft-ventilated booth had significantly lower plasma HDA levels relative to semi-downdraft and crossdraft booth types (P = 0.0108); this trend was comparable to HDI inhalation and dermal exposure levels stratified by booth type. These findings indicate that HDA concentration in hydrolyzed plasma may be used as a biomarker of cumulative inhalation and dermal exposure to HDI and for investigating the effectiveness of exposure controls in the workplace.

The analytical profile of some 4-methylthioamphetamine (4-MTA) homologues

The 4-methylthioamphetamine (4-MTA) is a sulphur-containing amphetamine-type stimulant (ATS), which appeared on the illicit market in Europe at the end of 90s. For the purpose of this study, several N-alkyl homologues of 4-MTA, including 4-methylthiomethamphetamine (4-MTMA), 4-methylthioethylamphetamine (4-MTEA), 4-methylthiodimethamphetamine (4-MTDMA), 4-methylthiopropylamphetamine (4-MTPA) and 4-methylthiobutylamphetamine (4-MTBA) were synthesized. The homologues were characterized by means of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC–MS), infrared (IR) spectroscopy and the magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 1H and 13C NMR). The gas chromatography and mass spectrometry properties of their acetyl, trifluoroacyl (TFA), pentafluoropropionyl (PFP) and heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivatives were also investigated and discussed.

Optimizing a GC-MS method for screening of Stachybotrysmycotoxins in indoor environments

Presence of Stachybotrys chartarum in indoor environments has been linked to building-associated disease, however, the causative agents are unknown. Verrucarol (VER) and trichodermol (TRID) are hydrolysis products of some major S. chartarum mycotoxins, i.e. macrocyclic trichothecenes and trichodermin. We optimized gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) methods for detecting VER and TRID in S. chartarum-contaminated indoor environmental samples. Heptafluorobutyryl derivatives of both VER and TRID exhibited little MS fragmentation and gave much higher detection sensitivity (sub-picogram injected onto the GC column), both in GC-MS and GC-MSMS, than trimethylsilyl derivatives. Optimal detection sensitivity and specificity was achieved by combining chemical ionization and negative ion (NICI) detection with MSMS. With this method, VER and TRID were detected in building materials colonized by S. chartarum and TRID was demonstrated in dust settled in the breathing zone in a house where an inner wall was colonized. In summary, we have shown that NICI-GC-MSMS can be used to demonstrate mycotoxins in house dust in S. chartarum-contaminated dwellings.

Critical study of and improvements in chromatographic methods for the analysis of type B trichothecenes

Various analytical methods used in the analysis of type B trichothecenes (deoxynivalenol, nivalenol, 3- and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol) in cereals were compared and optimised in this work. These methods use either GC–electron-capture detection (ECD) of trimethylsilyl, trifluoroacetyl and heptafluorobutyryl derivatives or HPLC with UV or photodiode array detection of analytes. A new HPLC procedure using fluorescence detection prior derivatisation with coumarin-3-carbonyl chloride has been also tested. Five extraction solvents and two solid-phase extraction cartridges (silica, Florisil) plus a especial clean-up column (MycoSep 225) were compared in order to obtain the best recovery of the mycotoxins with minimal presence of coextractives in the chromatograms. The chosen extraction solvent was a mixture of acetonitrile–water (84:16, v/v). The MycoSep 225 column was chosen as the best alternative for clean-up of grain samples. For GC–ECD analysis, derivatisation of analytes with heptafluorobutyric anhydride prior the final determination was chosen as the most suitable procedure. HPLC–photodiode array (at 221 nm) analysis was more suitable for determination of type B trichothecenes than HPLC of the fluorescent coumarin-3-carbonyl derivatives. Recoveries obtained in spiked corn, rice and wheat are reported. The utility of the proposed methodology was assayed in cereal cultures of various Fusarium strains.

Enantiomer separation of pharmaceuticals by capillary gas chromatography with novel chiral stationary phases.

New chiral stationary phases of polydimethylsiloxane anchored with (S)-(-)-t-leucine derivatives were provided for use in enantiomer separation of pharmaceuticals by capillary gas chromatography. Fifteen pharmaceuticals were separated into their enantiomeric pairs by converting them into pentafluoropropionyl and heptafluorobutyryl derivatives. The separation factor and resolution obtained from the new phases were superior to those from the conventional Chirasil-Val capillary column.

GC-MS determination of l-ephedrine and d-pseudoephedrine in human plasma

To determine l-ephedrine (E) and d-pseudoephedrine (PE) concentrations in human plasma simultaneously, we used a selected-ion monitoring method with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using deuterium-labeled E and PE as internal standards. The E and PE in human plasma were extracted with hexane-ethylacetate (9/1) under alkaline conditions and were easily converted into their heptafluorobutyryl derivatives by treating with heptafluorobutyrylimidazole. The calibration curves of E and PE showed a good linearity in the range from 0.82 to 81.9 ng/ml for E, and from 0.41 to 41.0 ng/ml for PE, respectively. The limit of detection was 0.82 ng/ml for E and 0.41 ng/ml for PE in human plasma, respectively.

A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the quantitation of clobenzorex.

Drugs metabolized to amphetamine or methamphetamine are potentially significant concerns in the interpretation of amphetamine-positive urine drug-testing results. One of these compounds, clobenzorex, is an anorectic drug that is available in many countries. Clobenzorex (2-chlorobenzylamphetamine) is metabolized to amphetamine by the body and excreted in the urine. Following administration, the parent compound was detectable for a shorter time than the metabolite amphetamine, which could be detected for days. Because of the potential complication posed to the interpretation of amphetamin-positive drug tests following administration of this drug, the viability of a current amphetamine procedure using liquid-liquid extraction and conversion to the heptafluorobutyryl derivative followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was evaluated for identification and quantitation of clobenzorex. Qualitative identification of the drug was relatively straightforward. Quantitative analysis proved to be a far more challenging process. Several compounds were evaluated for use as the internal standard in this method, including methamphetamine-d11, fenfluramine, benzphetamine, and diphenylamine. Results using these compounds proved to be less than satisfactory because of poor reproducibility of the quantitative values. Because of its similar chromatographic properties to the parent drug, the compound 3-chlorobenzylamphetamine (3-Cl-clobenzorex) was evaluated in this study as the internal standard for the quantitation of clobenzorex. Precision studies showed 3-Cl-clobenzorex to produce accurate and reliable quantitative results (within-run relative standard deviations [RSDs] < 6.1%, between-run RSDs < 6.0%). The limits of detection and quantitation for this assay were determined to be 1 ng/mL for clobenzorex.

Ionspray Ionization–Mass Spectrometric Separation and Determination of Heptafluorobutyryl Derivatives of Polyamines

We describe here an application of ionspray ionization–mass spectrometry (IS–MS) for simultaneous determination of putrescine, spermidine, and spermine without the need for coupling with other separation techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. Because it was essential to increase the mass of these compounds to eliminate contaminated low-mass ions, heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivatives were chosen. It was found that each HFB-polyamine appeared as a single major cation carrying an ammonium ion in a solution of 50% acetonitrile–water containing 0.5% ammonium acetate at an orifice potential of 20 V. Under these conditions, the three polyamines after addition of15N-labeled polyamines as internal standards, followed by heptafluorobutylation, were determined simultaneously. It was shown, using a sample injection bulb set between the syringe drive and ionspray probe, that the analysis time for data acquisition was about 3 min and the sensitivity was about 10 fmol. In addition, polyamines in rat liver were determined by this method after simple fractionation with a small column of CM–cellulose with reasonable accuracy and precision. Behaviors of acetylated polyamines were also described, and the results showed that the acetylated polyamines would become additional target compounds in the present method.

Isotope dilution gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric measurement of tricyclic antidepressant drugs. Utility of the 4-carbethoxyhexafluorobutyryl derivatives of secondary amines.

Stable isotope dilution gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric (GC-MS) measurement of tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) is a useful alternative to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods when interfering substances prevent accurate quantitation by HPLC. For satisfactory GC-MS analysis, secondary amine TCA must be derivatized. Commonly employed trifluoroacetyl and heptafluorobutyryl derivatives are relatively unstable and cause rapid deterioration of capillary GC columns. Therefore we examined 4-carbethoxyhexafluorobutyryl chloride (CHFB-CI) as an alternative derivatizing agent and developed a stable isotope dilution GC-MS method employing ring-labeled [2H4]-desipramine and [2H4]-imipramine internal standards, which permits measurement of desipramine, nortriptyline, imipramine, and amitriptyline in plasma samples containing one or all of these analytes. The GC-MS assay is linear for each analyte from the lower limit of quantitation (25 ng/mL) up to 1500 ng/mL and correlates well with HPLC measurements. The GC-MS analytic coefficient of variation was 9.7 +/- 1.3% for all analytes considered together. Although interferences are observed in the HPLC assay, thioridazine, perphenazine, cyclobenzaprine, and norcyclobenzaprine do not interfere with GC-MS measurements of the TCA examined here. The stability of the CHFB derivative of secondary amine TCA was found to be superior to that of the trifluoroacetyl derivatives of these compounds.

Determination of Imidacloprid and Triadimefon in White Pine by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

Imidacloprid is one of a new class of highly systemic chloronicotinyl insecticides with significant activity against a wide range of insects. The triazole fungicides, triadimefon and triadimenol, are also systemic and highly effective in controlling a variety of economically important fungal diseases. A sensitive and reliable method for the determination of these compounds by GC/MS has been developed. Imidacloprid was converted to the heptafluorobutyryl derivative, whereas triadimefon and triadimenol were determined directly. Quantitation of all three analytes in white pine foliar extracts was performed in selected ion monitoring mode, by comparison with an external standard in sample matrix. Limits of quantitation were 0.01 ppm (10 pg injected) for imidacloprid and 0.1 ppm (100 pg injected) for both triadimefon and triadimenol. Overall mean recovery was 85.78 ± 5.20% (6.06%). This method has been successfully applied to quantify in-planta residues after treatment of white pine seedlings with a controlled-release pellet containing imidacloprid and triadimefon for control of white pine weevil and white pine blister rust, respectively. Simultaneous determination of polyamines, N-acetylated polyamines and the polyamine analogues BE-3-3-3 and BE-4-4-4-4 by capillary gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection

We describe a method for the profiling of polyamines, N-acetylated polyamines and the polyamine analogues N 1, N 11-bis(ethyl)norspermine (BE-3-3-3) and 1,19-bis(ethylamino)-5,10,15-triazanonadecane (BE-4-4-4-4) in L1210 murine leukaemia cells by capillary gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection. The method makes use of four internal standards. Prepurification comprises deproteinization, isolation with Sep-Pak silica at pH 9.0, conversion to heptafluorobutyryl derivatives and postderivatization organic fluid extraction. Within- and between-series precisions (given as C.V.s) for analysis of 1–2×10 6 cells were: putrescine 5.5 and 29.4%; spermidine 1.6 and 7.1%; and spermine 3.2 and 7.6%, respectively. Recoveries relative to the respective internal standards, were in the 70.6–104.7% range. Accuracy and precision of measurements of BE-4-4-4-4 can probably be improved by the introduction of a separate pentamine internal standard. We conclude that the method can be used for studying the effect of BE-3-3-3 and BE-4-4-4-4, and possibly their metabolites, on polyamine homeostasis (biosynthesis, retroconversion, transport, terminal catabolism) and polyamine function.

Simultaneous determination, in calf urine, of twelve anabolic agents as heptafluorobutyryl derivatives by capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

A method to determine twelve anabolic hormones (diethylstilbestrol, hexestrol, dienestrol, 17 beta-estradiol, 19-nortestosterone, testosterone, 1-dehydrotestosterone, 17 alpha-methyltestosterone, progesterone, estrone, 17 alpha-ethynilestradiol, and trenbolone) is presented. Urine samples were extracted with octadecylsilica columns and clean-up was performed in two steps with basic alumina and silica solid-phase extraction cartridges. The extracts obtained were derivatized with heptafluorobutyric anhydride and analyzed by GC-MS. Stability of derivatives was good and compounds having keto groups produced enol derivatives that were stable also. SIM mode was applied to increase the sensitivity and, when possible, the higher m/z ions were selected to improve identification. Repeatability of the chromatographic analysis was evaluated on the basis of area repeatability, and the coefficient of variation obtained was lower than 13%. Absolute recoveries were in the range 35-60% (dehydrotestosterone and estrone < 20%) with coefficients of variation between 14 and 37% for the whole procedure. [2H3]Testosterone and [2H8]diethylstilbestrol were evaluated to improve quantitative data. The recovery of [2H3]testosterone was found to be equal to or slightly higher than that of the other hormones, but the recovery of [2H8]diethylstilbestrol was lower than any other. [2H3]Testosterone was the most suitable for use as an internal standard, as its addition at the beginning of analytical procedure, corrected recovery results and greatly improved precision. Corrected recoveries from urine ranged from 72-110%, and coefficients of variation ranged from 6-15%, except for testosterone which yielded slightly higher values. The limit of detection was 0.5 ng/ml for all the compounds studied.

Determination of ester-type local anesthetic drugs (procaine, tetracaine, and T-caine) in human serum by wide-bore capillary gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection.

A sensitive method for simultaneous determination of ester-type local anesthetic drugs (procaine, tetracaine, and T-caine) has been developed using wide-bore capillary gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection (GC-NPD). The extraction procedure, the experimental conditions for heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivative formation, and the percentage of the ester-type local anesthetic drugs from the human serum are described. The HFB derivatives of ester-type local anesthetic drugs showed sensitivity of approximately 2-3 fold higher than that without derivatization. The detection limits of HFB derivatives of the ester-type local anesthetic drugs were approximately 60-70 pg on column. Recoveries from the human serum were 85-94%. This method could be used to determine concentrations as low as 24-28 ng/mliters of the ester-type local anesthetic drugs.
