Integration of Multicultural Principles in Elementary Madrasahs: A Systematic literature review

The discussion related to the application of multicultural values through Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah educational institutions aims to describe what valuescan be applied and how. The research method used is the library research method using descriptive analysis techniques. Democracy, tolerance and harmony are some of the values summarized in the concept of multicultural values. These three are essential values for society to understand in the process of becoming a nation and state. All three will be able to be understood and actualized when implemented well. One of the factors for implementing multicultural values is through an educational process that has a multicultural perspective. The educational process to apply these values should be carried out through all lines of education, both regular educational institutions and community educational institutions. One institution that deserves attention is the Ibtidaiyyah madrasah. This institution is a flexible institution and is also an institution that is in the community environment. In this way, this institution develops into an institution that is ready to transform multicultural values. Some things that must be done are (a) reorganizing the curriculum and learning; (b) preparing superior teaching staff, (c) creating an agenda for cross-religious and cultural harmony, and (d) making the public aware of the importance of madrasah ibtidaiyah.

Religious Traditions in Balun-Turi Village, Lamongan: Representation of Religious and Cultural Harmony in Indonesia

This study aims to understand how the diversity of local religions and cultures in Balun-Turi Village, Lamongan, is reflected in religious traditions. Balun-Turi Village was chosen as a case study because it is a good representation of the religious and cultural diversity in Indonesia. The research methods used included data collection through direct observation, interviews, and analysis of related documents. The results of the study revealed that Balun-Turi Village has various rich and diverse religious traditions. These traditions include religious celebrations, rituals, and other religious practices carried out by various religious communities in the village. In these religious traditions, it is clear how the diversity of local religions and cultures is reflected. Data analysis showed that the religious traditions in Balun-Turi Village reflect harmony and tolerance among religions, which are characteristic of Indonesian society. Despite differences in beliefs and religious practices, the people of Balun-Turi Village live together peacefully and respect each other. This illustrates the cultural richness and religious tolerance that are integral parts of Indonesian society. These findings are important for localizing the study of religion in the Indonesian context, as they strengthen the understanding of the importance of religious and cultural diversity in building an inclusive and harmonious society. Additionally, this study emphasizes the importance of understanding and preserving local religious traditions in a broader context as part of efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of the nation. In conclusion, this study makes an important contribution to supporting local religious and cultural diversity and localizing the study of religion in the Indonesian context

Caracterización de experiencias significativas de educación ambiental en Colombia: Un análisis descriptivo de la identificación de tendencias para el desarrollo sustentable

The current environmental crisis, resulting from humanity's subjugation and domination of nature, has significantly contributed to the decline of ecological biodiversity worldwide. In the case of Colombia, the main causes of biodiversity loss include land-use changes, urbanization, among others. This underscores the urgent need to strengthen environmental education (EE) in the country to promote a sustainable environmental culture in harmony with nature. Accordingly, this research aims to characterize environmental education experiences in Colombia based on the database "Experiencias significativas de Educación Ambiental – Listado Minambiente" Data processing was conducted using the statistical software STATA, with the goal of identifying educational trends related to environmental issues at the national level. The results reveal progress in the field of EE, highlighting a higher proportion of initiatives that adopt a naturalistic teaching model. Likewise, there is a prevalence of institutional initiatives over community ones. The results suggest that community initiatives tend to align with a systemic teaching model, while institutional initiatives prioritize the naturalistic perspective. Additionally, it was observed that community participation is sometimes conditioned by sectoral and non-sectoral entities in the country. Finally, the conclusions reaffirm the need for Colombian institutions to continue working on appropriate environmental education indicators that allow for the measurement and dissemination of EE experiences at the national level. Furthermore, the importance of strengthening systemic EE models is emphasized, as they promote the social re-appropriation of the environment through cultural changes.

Forging National Identity: Journey from Economic Struggles to Cultural Harmony

After gaining independence from colonial rule, faced a complex domestic situation. To avoid religious and cultural conflicts among its diverse ethnic groups, the government adopted a multicultural governance approach for multi-ethnic management, supplemented by a supranational identity governance strategy, which maintained social harmony and stability. In this process, the political system ensured a basic balance of power among ethnic groups, a pragmatic economic development model met the survival needs of various ethnicities, and a liberal cultural environment preserved the historical heritage of each group. However, harmonious Singapore still falls short of becoming a true nation-state. To achieve the goal of nation-building, the Singaporean government has begun to emphasize cultural identity and seeks to foster a sense of being "Singaporean." With English as the lingua franca, Singaporeans can communicate in a common language, the preservation of historical buildings retains a shared cultural memory, and efforts to promote "shared values" are gradually fostering national identity among citizens.

Türkiye Bursları as the Soft Power in the Reflection of Bilateral Relations between Türkiye and Indonesia

Türkiye Bursları is a scholarship program for international students, but who would have thought that the existence of this scholarship was in line with Turkey's public diplomacy mission and thus became the country's soft power? Indonesia, as a friendly country, is Turkey's main target in expanding its reputation and cultural promotion mission through Türkiye Bursları, as evidenced by the government's policy in 2020 which plans to increase the quota for students from Indonesia. With its historical ties, similarities in religious identity, and cultural harmony, Turkey is certainly an alternative for Indonesian students to experience the experience of studying abroad. On the other hand, Indonesia, with its large population and GDP, is certainly Turkey's target in spreading its cultural values to create many agents who can fulfill national interests comprehensively from many sectors. This research seeks to analyze the influence and opportunities of the Türkiye Bursları scholarship on Turkey's diplomatic relations with Indonesia in detail. The methodology used in this research is qualitative with references in the form of books, reports, and relevant journal articles according to the topic of Türkiye Bursları's role as Turkey's soft power and its relationship with Indonesia.

The wireless internet is undeniably crucial for nations, particularly in developing countries, serving as a critical component in connecting people residing in remote and inaccessible areas. This is especially true for archipelago nations where traditional landline internet infrastructure may not be economically viable. In developing countries, the internet plays a vital role in propelling advancements in education, productions, and services. Unlike developed nations where technology often overshadows religion, developing countries tend to approach technological progress cautiously, prioritizing the preservation of their religious beliefs. Despite the increasing availability of satellite internet providing vast and unrestricted access, governmental authorities and religious leaders in developing countries remain cautious about potential negative influences on religion. Therefore, establishing a cultural harmony framework that promotes good will is essential for stakeholders to find common ground for the benefit of the people and the nation.

Confrontation between Liberals and Radicals in Amy Waldman’s The Submission

The paper explores the repercussions of 9/11 in the diversity of the United States of America as portrayed in Amy Waldman’s The Submission published in the aftermath of 9/11 based on the cultural conflicts inherent in American culture. I unfold the problems the minority Muslims experience because of the 9/11 attacks on the US. The implications of the attacks on the intercultural relations of the minorities with the majority community reveal that the prevailing biases against Muslims and Islam as depicted in the text become obstacles to cultural harmony and integrity in American culture. The setbacks Muslims face in the aftermath of 9/11 make the principle of multiculturalism questionable. The paper has investigated into the cultural variables including traditions, behaviors, beliefs and practices of the respective ethnicities particularly American and Muslim in the United States. Such factors have influenced the opinions of both common Americans and the authorities to deal with the people having differences in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Consequently, the liberals including Mo Khan and Claire from both American culture and Muslim minority are forced to suffer the backlash.

Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: Bridging Gaps in Access and Participation

There is growing recognition of the importance of equity/equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in higher education (HE). Sector-wide there are significant gaps between certain groups of students due to inequalities, and in some cases, these are growing year on year. To tackle these challenges, the HE sector in England is trying to embrace EDI and to widen access and participation through Access and Participation Plans (APPs). This article outlines how one university in England, the University of West London, uses its APP to create opportunities to inspire potential and current students to achieve their goals regardless of their background, identity, and/or lived experiences by ensuring cultural harmony across the student lifecycle where equality and equity co-exists. Through developing its APP in partnership with students, known as Equality Champions, the university seeks assure a diversity of thoughts and voice foster a sense of belonging, promote collaboration and innovation and enhance diverse learning and education.

The philosophy of symbiosis in the reception of the dragon image in Chinese culture

The article analyzes the role of the dragon culture for the preservation of national unity and spiritual strength of the Chinese people. The author raises the question of the reasons why the dragon culture remains in demand in the modern rational world, in the age of science and technology development. The answer to this question is the thesis about the uniqueness of Chinese culture, which lies in the philosophy of symbiosis, when the mythological culture of the dragon and scientific rationalism coexist and successfully develop. The dragon is depicted as a powerful being with infinite strength and courage, acting as a talisman, a symbol of protecting people from disasters. Therefore, the dragon culture reflects the veneration of strength, courage, and confidence in Chinese traditional values. The dragon is often seen as a symbol of harmony in Chinese traditional culture, embodying the idea of the unity of heaven and man. The article uses general scientific and special research methods, including document analysis, historical research, classification, comparative research method and semiotic analysis. The novelty of the research lies in the analysis of the reception of the image of the dragon in Chinese culture in the aspect of the philosophy of symbiosis. The author's special contribution to the research of the topic is to analyze the status, role and evolution of dragon culture in Chinese traditional culture from antiquity to the present day, as well as to identify the modern significance and role of dragon culture in modern society. The main conclusion of the study is that the image of the dragon provides a symbiotic relationship between the scientific, rational thinking of modern man and the mythological archetypes preserved in the collective consciousness. Dragon culture reflects the importance of traditional cultural values, national spirit and national identity in China.

Exploring host and home country effects on industrial relations in Chinese multinational enterprises – Evidence from Ireland

This paper explores the industrial relations (IR) experiences of Chinese multinational enterprises (MNE) in Ireland, with particular focus on the impact of host and home country institutions on IR policies and practices. The study adopted a qualitative methodology of semi-structured interviews with managerial respondents from eight Chinese MNEs located in Ireland and personnel in other relevant public and private organisations. Our results indicate that host country IR institutions (e.g. trade unions, employment legislation and government support) largely explain the IR practices of Chinese MNEs in Ireland. This study also identifies home country effects mostly relating to a hierarchical managerial approach and the development of a culture of harmony and collaboration. Finally, our results also call attention to some emerging ‘convergence’ and ‘divergence’ between Chinese MNEs and other MNEs in Ireland in terms of their IR experiences and responses.

Die Robert‐Rössle‐Straße in Berlin‐Pankow. Zum Streit um die ehrende Erinnerung an einen „relativ belasteten“ Pathologen in der NS‐Zeit

AbstractFor some years now, there has been a dispute in Berlin Pankow about renaming the “Robert‐Rössle‐Straße.” The pathologist is accused of an opportunistic attitude regarding his behaviour and his scientific work under National Socialism. In his research, especially that on a “pathology of the family,” Robert Rössle is said to have followed the racial‐hygienic paradigm of the Nazi era. He is to have used questionable methods and is subject to the reproach of having profited from his adaptation to the system scientifically and as a private citizen. The dispute over the naming of the street can be described as “dissonant memory,” impeding a harmonious culture of remembrance. It is suggested that this dispute – regardless of whether the street is renamed or not – be used productively in the sense of a reflexive historical consciousness to get on Rössle's track and illuminate the factual and personal entanglements of his network from different perspectives.

The writing of this thesis begins with the emergence of the author’s awarenes of the importance of understanding spirits of the Toba Batak culture in harmony with Catholic Theology. The meaning of spirit in Toba Batak culture is often understood both among the Toba Batak people and from other tribes, as a custom of idol worship. Chatolic Theology confirms that the spirit is a divine power that work in every creation, transport in all living things and is active in humans, specifically the Holy Spirit that is bestowed by God in every human being. The existence of the Holy Spirit in human being is a gift fom God himself to support human being to life. The religion and cultural customs are not two things that go in contradictory directions, but they are two features that strengthen each other. The culture is inherent in human existence from birt, and the religion is a way for human being to identify the faith in Jesus Christ himseft. A human being who is cultured and trough the help of the Holy Spirit will be able to experience oneness with God. Thus, the Religion and culture are two characteristics that lead human beings to the equal goal, namely human self-improvement.

It examines the integration of Kazakhstan's rich musical heritage with contemporary educational techniques, highlighting the balance between preserving cultural identity and embracing global music trends. The study involves a literature review and case studies from various educational institutions across Kazakhstan. It discusses the impact of such integration on students' musical skills, cultural awareness, and creative development. The paper also addresses the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing traditional Kazakh music with modern pedagogical practices. The findings reveal the importance of a diversified approach to music education, which not only fosters a deeper appreciation of Kazakh cultural heritage but also equips students with a broad range of musical competencies.

Integration of ethnic school graduates into the educational space of Almaty universities

Relevance. The paper specifies the content aspects and features of modern Kazakhstan's ethnocultural education through the study's regulations based on content analysis.Purpose. The author comes to the conclusion that ethnocultural education is an important social and educational problem in the Republic of Kazakhstan, considered as the enforcement of rights and opportunities of peoples.Methodology. The upcoming changes in the school structure and content of school (secondary) education will undoubtedly serve as the basis for creating a comprehensive educational environment.Results. The achieved results of ethnocultural education in Kazakhstan create conditions for wider use of the potential of ethnocultural education based on the values of a culture of peace, tolerance, and interethnic harmony. The problem of ethnocultural education and integration of graduates of ethnic schools requires development.Conclusions. The authors believe that the problem of ethnocultural education involves the interaction of both vectors, and its monoethnic vector is necessary for the preservation of national identity in the individual, and a multi-ethnic vector is a tool for resolving interethnic contradictions and forming tolerance in cross-cultural interaction.

Theological and Cultural Construction: Resilience Strategies of the To Sallang Minority in A Multicultural Society

To Sallang is a term addressed to minority Muslims who live in Toraja. Even though they are a minority, they can live side by side, without losing their Islamic identity. This research aims to find out To Sallang's resilience strategy to survive among the mainstream religions and customs of the Toraja people who are predominantly Christian. In addition, it also aims to explore religious aspects that can strengthen To Sallang community to survive and adapt to a multicultural society. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research results show that To Sallang manages to maintain their social identity as a native of Toraja descent, as well as negotiate personal identity as a Muslim community by adapting their genius and creative assimilation to universal religious values and local wisdom (indigenous knowledge). Through theological concepts such as fitrah-sunnatullah (natural law), hablum min al-nas (social interaction), hurmatu al-takrim (respect and honor), and al-ma'ruf (values of goodness and wisdom that are rooted in the traditions of society) synchronized with local wisdom values such as sikamali (love-miss each other), siangga' (mutual respect), and siangkaran (help each other), To Sallang can present a comprehensive picture of religiosity that accommodates religious aspirations with cultural characteristics. To Sallang strategy could be the best practice and reference to build religious and cultural co-existence since they can survive with their Islamic identity and local wisdom to live together in a multicultural society. It can also be a blueprint for religious and cultural harmony in overcoming potential conflicts caused by ethnic and religious differences.

Optimizing the Role of Islamic Education and Tongkonan in Strengthening Religious Harmony in Tana Toraja

Tongkonan, for the people of Tana Toraja, is a source of reference for religious peace with the values of siangga, sikamali, sipakaborok, and sialamase. The noble values in Tongkonan are also noble values in Islamic education, so it can be said that there has been a merger of positive values in the climate of religious harmony and tolerance among the indigenous people of Tana Toraja so that religious resilience can reduce tension and opportunities for religious violence. This research uses a qualitative ethnographic approach. The data sources for this research are officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Head of Madrasah, the Sub-District Head, and Toraja Traditional Guardians. Furthermore, the data collection methods are observation, interviews, documentation, and reference searches. Then, data processing and analysis techniques are carried out through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study are that the government and related partners from community organisations should: 1) improve the quality of formal education through schools and madrasahs with a curriculum loaded with religious harmony and tolerance. 2) Increase the role of Islamic education in fostering harmony by stimulating a culture of harmony and tolerance among students and the Islamic community in Tana Toraja as an object of non-formal education. 3) Strengthening the role of Tongkonan as a medium for learning religious harmony and tolerance in the Toraja community through training

Identification with Buddhism among young Chinese Indonesians: multicultural dynamics and generational transitions

Amidst the diverse cultural and religious tapestry of Indonesia, Buddhism holds a prominent position as a major faith. Within the context of multiculturalism and generational shifts, this study explores the evolving identification of young Chinese Indonesians with Buddhism. This research addresses the existing knowledge gap by investigating the intricate interplay of historical, cultural, and religious elements that help shape young Chinese Indonesians’ identification with Buddhism. By conducting a thorough analysis of quantitative data gathered from young Chinese Indonesians through a survey, this study investigates six dimensions of identification with Buddhism. This examination considers variables such as age, family background, and regional disparities. Furthermore, to obtain deeper insights and support the quantitative findings, the researchers conducted semistructured interviews to gather qualitative data. The findings reveal the characteristics of young Chinese Indonesians’ identification with Buddhism. First, there are significant variations in identification levels across regions, with relatively lower levels in Java and higher levels in other archipelagos. Personal factors, such as parents’ occupations, also influence individuals’ degree of identification with Buddhism. Second, today’s Chinese Indonesian youth maintain their identification with Buddhism through family ties despite overall intergenerational decline. The participants also show a keen interest in modern religious symbols, dissemination methods, and content. Third, the Buddhist identity of Chinese Indonesian youth transcends traditional values and cultural content, reflecting characteristics of multiculturalism and cultural blending. They not only appreciate various aspects of local culture but also incorporate Buddhist values and symbols into the mainstream of globally shared culture, creating a more extensive and modern collective cultural identity. Unveiling the factors that shape Buddhist identification among Chinese Indonesian youths has implications for fostering intercultural and intergenerational cohesion. The insights derived from this research can contribute to the design of effective strategies aimed at advancing the broader goal of cultural harmony and social unity in Indonesia.

Harmonious Coexistence: Intercultural Communication Dynamics Between Legal Immigrants and Residents in Gading Serpong

This research delves into the intricate dynamics of intercultural communication within the context of legal immigration, focusing on the community of Gading Serpong. This study employs qualitative research methods to explore the multifaceted interplay of language, social norms, economic collaboration, and government initiatives in fostering harmonious relationships between legal immigrants and residents. Despite linguistic and cultural disparities, the residents of Gading Serpong exhibit a remarkable willingness to engage in dialogue, mutual understanding, and reciprocal respect. The study uncovers the pivotal role of collaborative efforts, inclusive educational practices, and responsible media portrayals in facilitating social integration. Furthermore, the proactive involvement of the local government and community initiatives contributes significantly to creating an inclusive environment, ensuring immigrants are valued members of society. The findings underscore the importance of sustaining efforts to promote ongoing dialogue, cultural awareness, and inclusivity, solidifying Gading Serpong as an exemplar of cultural harmony and diversity within the Indonesian context.

Contextos mitopéicos da prosa de Mia Couto nos romances Varanda do Frangipani, O Último Voo do Flamingo e Terra Sonâmbula

This paper presents an analysis of mythopoeic elements in three novels by Mia Couto. Starting from Mircea Eliade’s definition of myth, we look for elements of the Living Cosmos with its axis mundi, centre and periphery, chaos and harmony and quest in the novels. Such structure of the analysis allows us to consider the cultural colonization and decolonization of contemporary Mozambique. We conclude that the analysis of the mythopoetic schema in Mia Couto’s novels demonstrates a crisis of cultural harmony in the contemporary Mozambican state and nation. On the other hand, however, the mythopoetic reveals a horizon of cultural and traditional models of persistence that save not only from chaos but above all from the dehumanization of society.
