The Halal industry has emerged as a significant economic sector globally, driven by the growing demand for products and services that conform to Islamic principles. In Indonesia, with the world's largest Muslim population, the Halal industry has enormous potential for growth. This study investigates the role of Shariah risk management, Islamic investment ethics, and usury-free financing in shaping the trajectory of the Halal industry in Indonesia. Using quantitative analysis through structural equation modeling (SEM), this study examines the relationship between these financial practices and the development of the Halal industry. Data collected from key stakeholders in the industry revealed significant positive relationships between Shariah risk management, Islamic investment ethics, usury-free financing, and Halal industry development. The findings provide valuable insights for policy makers, investors, and industry stakeholders looking to foster sustainable growth and innovation in the Halal industry in Indonesia.

Islamic capital market support in the Indonesian halal industry development: SWOT analysis

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as well as strategies for supporting the Islamic capital market in the context of halal industry development in Indonesia. Methodology – This study used a mixed-method approach in the form of a sequential exploratory design with a SWOT analysis technique. Findings – The Indonesian Islamic capital market has strengths in the successful oversubscription of sukuk issuances (both state and corporate) and growth of Islamic educational institutions. However, it has weaknesses owing to limited corporate awareness and public understanding of the market. Opportunities arise from a youthful and educated demographic, whereas challenges involve the complex issuance process and the limited involvement of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Strategic programs such as integration, incentives, value enhancement, and market deepening are recommended to address these aspects and promote the role of the Islamic capital market in the halal industry and Islamic economic development in Indonesia.Implications – This study devises a range of strategic measures aimed at fostering the establishment of a conducive ecosystem that bolsters the Islamic capital market's role in advancing the halal industry and Islamic economy within Indonesia.Originality – Unlike previous research, which failed to comprehensively investigate and analyze SWOT factors, this study successfully examined and assessed these elements. Furthermore, this study goes beyond the analysis by suggesting strategic approaches to bolster the Islamic capital market's role in the development of Indonesia's halal industry.

Developing Halal Industry in Indonesia using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM)

Halal industry has become a popular object and the latest trends in the world of international business. Not only in Indonesia but also Malaysia, Thailand even Europe began to glance at the potential and opportunities for halal industry. The phenomenon that began to develop halal industry in recent years is quite the attention of businesses and consumers themselves. Labeling "halal" or "sharia" on a product, not again become a form of obligation or obedience to a Muslim but has become the strength of a strong market, which not only as a guarantee of the products that are allowed for a Muslim but also a symbol of the global for quality assurance and a lifestyle choice. In previous studies, many researchers were interested in examining issues about the potential of halal industry, while very few researchers discuss the problems of the development of halal industry in Indonesia. Though research on the obstacles and development strategies of halal industry is needed to accelerate the development of halal industry in Indonesia. Based on this problem, which is taken from the study of literature, previous research and indepth interviews with academicians and practitioners, some issues in the development of the halal industry in Indonesia is divided into five aspects: 1) Policy, 2) Production, 3) Socialization, 4) Infrastructure, and 5) Human Resources.

The Urgency of Optimizing Productive Waqf in Pesantren to Foster the Halal Industry Development

Indonesia rates fourth out of the top 15 countries in the global Islamic economic indicator nomination for the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2022. As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has the potential to develop its halal industry. Islamic financial instruments, such as waqf, are vital to the halal industry. Many countries, including Indonesia, have demonstrated the effectiveness of employing productive waqf in Pesantren to provide financial support for education. With 37,614 Pesantren in Indonesia, these institutions can stimulate local economies through productive waqf and business ventures that correlate with local geographies and emerging potential, such as using waqf for capital business or Pesantren business units. Therefore, the economic growth in Pesantren positively affects the halal industry. However, several obstacles impede the development of a productive waqf in Pesantren, resulting in suboptimal performance. This study examines strategies to optimize productive waqf implementation in Pesantren to support the halal industry and strengthen the economy. This library-based study employs a descriptive methodology to collect data on literacy, which is then subjected to content analysis or other forms of scientific analysis. This study identified strategies to overcome obstacles in waqf management to establish a productive waqf in Pesantren and positively influence the development of the halal industry in Indonesia.

Halal Industry Development Strategies Based on Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises for Rendang Entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh

West Sumatra has much potential for culinary development in Indonesia. One of the famous food products is rendang. According to CNN, this product has gone global and is the most delicious food globally. In the context of culinary tourism development, Payakumbuh is one of the cities that contributes to the development of culinary businesses, especially rendang. A rendang village in Payakumbuh is a collection of several Small and Medium Enterprises promoting rendang businesses. Rendang entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh also play a role in accelerating the halal industry in their area. Rendang sales can also be accepted by consumers and sent to several regions in Indonesia and even the world. It aligns with Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantees. However, there are also many obstacles faced by rendang entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh in developing their businesses: limited capital, weak managerial skills, and marketing constraints. This research aims to discover rendang entrepreneurs' strategies to develop the halal industry. The method used is qualitative analysis. Next, the analysis technique used is SWOT analysis. Several steps can be taken to optimize rendang sales, including consumer awareness, halal services, digital marketing and supporting services. The government needs to support the development of the halal industry in Indonesia.

The analysis of products sold in the Muslim market, excluding meat, unveils common non-Halal elements, underscoring the intricate balance required for Shariah law compliance. A detailed examination of Malaysia's Halal industry policies, covering certification procedures, auditing, and monitoring, highlights the nation's proactive approach. The study concludes that Malaysia's commitment, invigorated by the Halal Industry Development Corporation, significantly contributes to setting high global standards. By harmonizing stakeholder views, dissecting product realities, and evaluating policy effectiveness, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of Malaysia's Halal industry dynamics. The insights gleaned are valuable for academics, industry practitioners, policymakers, and consumers navigating the dynamic landscape of the Halal market.

Role of Industry Players in Brunei's Halal Industry Development

The global halal market is a substantial and expanding consumer market, both domestically and internationally. With the projected increase in the world’s Muslim population by 35% by 2030, reaching 2.2 billion, the demand for halal products is expected to soar, potentially reaching USD 6.0 trillion by 2024. Brunei holds great potential to become a prominent halal hub worldwide and offer its high-quality local halal brand to the global market, contingent on the government’s concerted efforts to foster the growth of the halal industry in the country. To understand the role of industrial players in Brunei, this study aims to assess their impact, particularly considering the challenges they face in influencing the government’s direction in the country. Through an online survey, 150 respondents, who specialized in Bachelor of Halal Science, provided additional insights on the significance of industry players in shaping the development of Brunei’s halal industry. The majority of respondents believe that industry players play a significant role alongside policymakers and the Brunei government in reinforcing and continuously enhancing the nation’s halal standards, laws, and regulations.

Halal Industry Development in Brunei Darussalam: Realities and Challenges

The global halal market is witnessing significant growth, estimated at USD 2.41 trillion, and this upward trend is expected to continue due to increasing worldwide demand. In response to this lucrative opportunity, Brunei is actively supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and providing necessary facilities to foster the development of the halal industry in the country. This article aims to explore the current realities of Brunei’s halal sector by examining the factors that contribute to the rising demand for halal products and the opportunities presented by recent market developments. The research employed a method of assessing secondary data from various sources to achieve its objectives. The results highlight several factors influencing the development of the halal industry in Brunei. It is evident that the future growth of this sector hinges on industry players’ ability to expand their understanding of product sales and effective promotion strategies. The findings from this study can serve as a valuable resource for future researchers, academics, and policymakers when making informed decisions about the halal industry in Brunei.

Islamic boarding school as one of the educational institutions in Indonesia has an important role in assisting the government in advancing the religious spirituality of the students. In addition, Islamic boarding school also play a role in community economic development, one of the Islamic boarding schools that contributes to the economy is the Muinul Islamic boarding school in Kubu Raya Kalimantan Barat. With the specifications of the halal honey kelulut industry. This research aims to describe 1) How is the halal management process for the kelulut honey industry in Islamic Boarding School? 2) What is the achievement of developing the kelulut honey industry business? 3) What are the supporting and inhibiting factors in the halal business of the kelulut honey industry? This type of research uses descriptive qualitative data collection through observation and in-depth interviews. The results of this research are 1) Halal management of the kelulut honey industry at Muinul Islamic boarding school is in accordance with halal standards set by the government. 2) The achievements of the kelulut honey industry business are a) There is a new business unit for kelulut honey farms, b) It already has business legality such as pirt permits, NIB and halal certification c) Learning media for students d) The proceeds from the sale of kelulut honey can be additional income for Islamic boarding schools 3) The supporting factors are internal (complete vegetation in Islamic boarding school environment, high entrepreneurial interest from Islamic boarding school managers and the existence of a marketing network) and external (support from government institutions and universities). The inhibiting factor is the weather in the rainy season and not increasing the amount of vegetation.

Indonesia is a country where the development of the halal industry can become a sizeable potential, not only domestically but also abroad. The halal industry has played an important role in improving the economy in Indonesia. The halal industry is recorded to have contributed USD 3.8 billion to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) each year. Looking at the facts on the ground, even though Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. However, the large Muslim population has not been able to make Indonesia a supplier country for the needs of halal commodities in the world. For this reason, this study aims to look at the Development of the Halal Industry in Indonesia regarding Opportunities and Challenges in the Post-Covid-19 Pandemic. The data collection technique for this research uses documentation and literature studies. Documentation studies, namely by downloading files on development reports of companies and businesses engaged in the halal industry on the official website of the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. The problem-solving framework in this study starts from selecting the research topic and then formulating the problem to see what the problem is to be studied. Furthermore, the researcher collects the required data and performs an analysis based on the data that has been collected, and then draws conclusions based on the descriptive analysis that was carried out. Through this research, the authors hope to contribute to a portrait of the halal industry in post-pandemic Indonesia, so that they can see opportunities for development.

SOUTH KOREA'S FOREIGN POLICY: UNVEILING FACTORS IN HALAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT

This study aims to analyze the factors that underlie South Korea's foreign policy regarding halal industry development. The decision-making theory proposed by Richard C. Snyder, Bruck, and Burton Sapin is the theoretical framework employed, while employing a qualitative approach, literary study and interview techniques. The research findings reveal that the formulation of South Korea's foreign policy in the halal industry development can be explained through various variables. In conclusion, South Korea's halal industry policy draws from decision-making theory, considering internal factors like the Muslim population, economic goals, and innovation. Social structures and external influences, such as global demand and Muslim tourism, play significant roles.

Strategy Development of Halal Industry for an Improved Competitiveness of MSMEs: An Analytic Network Process Approach

So far, there have been limited studies examining the strategies to develop the halal industry and improve the competitiveness of MSMEs in East Priangan, a high-potential area in West Java, Indonesia. Thus, this research focuses on the development of the halal industry to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs in the area. The study utilized the analytic network process (ANP) approach and a structured questionnaire to identify suitable strategies. Seven key respondents, including academics and practitioners, were selected based on their expertise. The analysis yielded three key criteria for strategies: (1) education for MSMEs, (2) integrated financing, and (3) an MSME database. The top priority strategies include strengthening human resource capacity, halal literacy, and financing support. The research provides recommendations for MSMEs and regulatory agencies to improve competitiveness, serving as a reference for future relevant studies.

BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF FOOD AND POST-HARVEST RESEARCH IN ENHANCING THE INTEGRITY OF HALAL FOOD INDUSTRY

Halalness of products has been a global concern in recent years due to increasing awareness, especially in Muslim-populated countries. However, Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, is only ranked 5th in halal industry development. Therefore, producers and consumers are expected to have a deeper understanding of halal practices that can encourage the development of industries with halal-certified products. This paper aimed to systematically and quantitatively plot the output of scientific research on implementing food and postharvest technology to improve the integrity of the halal food industry. The research method was bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer as a mapping tool. This research has four stages: (i) collection of bibliometric data from the Scopus database, (ii) performance analysis using embedded Scopus analysis tool, (iii) data mapping using VOSviewer, and (iv) mapping data analysis. Out of 2,875, only 161 keywords from 455 articles met the analysis threshold. The results showed that the topic of meat received the most attention from 2008 to 2021, found in 84 articles with 878 total link strengths. Furthermore, one of the most cited research topics recently was related to modeling the theory of planned behavior with factors of Halal awareness, certification, food quality, promotion, and brand on the intention to purchase halal products by non-Muslim consumers, with 203 citations from 2013 to 2021. In general, researchers can use this study to examine trends and directions of future research topics comprehensively.

MyHalal: an interactive application

According to the Halal industry development corporation (HDC). Malaysia’s Halal industry market value is expected to achieve approximately RM614.36 billion by 2025. It indicates that the Halal industry has great potential in covering local and international markets. In Malaysia, the department of islamic development malaysia (JAKIM) is the official agency responsible for Islamic affairs. In most circumstances, the public can check the Halal status of products by accessing the official website. The searching via the website is quite tedious and complex. Therefore, this work bridges the gap by proposing a mobile application namely MyHalal (MH) as a proof of concept which significantly improved the current method. This application will assist users in verifying the Halal status of food products and premises. In this context, MH also introduces a barcode scanner to check the product listing in JAKIM with camera access. Besides that, users also can report an issue when they found any misconduct regarding Halal certification. This mobile application is developed together with the web-based application as the backbone for the administrator to manage technical matters. It is expected to be a user-friendly platform for the users and a channel for JAKIM to manage information and spread awareness about Halal.

HALAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES: Muslims’ Responses and Sharia Compliance In Indonesia

Halal Industries have persistently become an important issue globally, including in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the strategies for halal industry development implemented by business actors in Indonesia as well as provide Indonesian Muslim’s responses and sharia compliance to halal context in their life. Using a mixed methodological approach with Analytical Network Process with religious leaders, academic and economics experts, local government, and business actors as the participants, it found that the strategies used to develop halal industry are not appropriate due to internal factors such as lack of standardization, branding, and limited human resources, and external ones which are the absence of a roadmap for halal industry and less supports from the government. Improving effective government policies and training human resources are among the strategies that might be applied. However, it also found greater attention among Indonesian Muslim and non-Muslim communities consuming halal products and enjoying halal experiences as their sharia compliance and lifestyle.

HALAL ECONOMIC: CHALLENGES AND EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES IN MALAYSIA

The purpose of the paper is to investigate the challenges and opportunities for halal industries in Malaysia. Since the market for certified Halal products is developing robustly, both domestically and internationally and Malaysia has become the leader and centre of reference for the world. This research builds on existing research published in the Munich Personal RePEc Archive on challenges and opportunities in halal industry. In addition to an extensive literature review, four segment of halal categories were discussed in order to discover the challenges and opportunities with regards to halal industry in Malaysia. The results show that the future market demands and the competitive opportunities related to halal industry are the main motivators for Malaysia to undertaken the significant initiatives across regulation, trade and industry support to strengthen the status as a Halal hub in the trade-driven of Islamic economy. The early adopters for each of halal segments face several challenges such as ambiguous halal guidelines, lack of international halal certification, lack of collaboration among governing agencies (i.e. Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) and Halal Industry Development Corporation), a lack of cost-effective standards and a general misunderstanding of halal practices. The findings of the present study may help government policy makers recognise the issues that should be addressed in motivating industries players to adopt halal practices. This study contributes to the advancement of knowledge on the challenges and opportunities of adopting halal certificate in Malaysia. Development of Framework for Halal Studies Program Evaluation

The halal industry development requires a competent halal industry human capital. However, very few establishments create employment opportunities for halal studies graduates. There are currently no guidelines or frameworks for halal education to suit the job markets. In response to this scenario, this paper will examine the support system of the Malaysian higher learning institution that offers halal studies programmes to develop a more comprehensive halal education ecosystem framework. Additionally, the study examined whether Malaysia’s current legal system has resulted in increased job opportunities for halal studies graduates. On 12th April 2021, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) in collaboration with Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has, developed the new academic programme standard for halal studies. Is this standard necessary to alter the current halal studies curriculum to make it more relevant to the halal industry? Thus, it is necessary to thoroughly study and discuss the vibrant guidelines and framework to enhance the quality and competency of halal studies graduates for the future job markets in Malaysia, which serves as a hub for competent halal expert providers that capable of meeting the halal industry ecosystem’s human capital needs.

Halal Industry: Challenges and Emerging Opportunities in the Economy of India

The aim of this article is to explore the problematic challenges and massive opportunities for Halal industries in India. The demand for Halal certified goods is robustly growing, both domestically and internationally in India due to its large domestic population and categorised as the second largest Muslim population nation in the world .In addition to a thorough review of the literatures, four categories of Halal segments were further addressed to explore the problematic challenges and exclusive opportunities in India pertaining to Halal industry. The results obtained from this study has successfully proven that the upcoming market requirements and Halal industry-related valuable opportunities, are the main motivators for India to undertake significant regulatory, trade and industrial support initiatives to strengthen the status as a Halal hub in the Islamic economy's trade-driven business. Early adopters face many obstacles for each of the Halal modules, such as vague Halal guidance and lack of cooperation with leading agencies (i.e., Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) and Halal Industry Development Corporation), a lack of cost-effective standards and a general misinterpretation of Halal practices. Furthermore, this study supports administration policy makers’ objective in identifying the issues that should be addressed in prompting industries players to approve Halal systems. This study adds up to the improvement of knowledge on the challenges and opportunities of adopting Halal certificate in India.

Halal e-commerce in the muslim fashion sector as an effort to encourage the development of halal industry in Indonesia

The development of food processing technology has increased the number and types of food products to meet human needs. The quality of a food product is not only seen from nutritional value and safety, but also from halalness aspect. For the purposes of quality control and halal authentication, the existence of a food testing method that is fast, accurate and easy to handling is needed. The application of electronic nose for various volatile compound detection purposes has been widely reported. This paper discusses electronic nose applications for quality control and halal testing purposes on food products. Furthermore, it also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of testing with an electronic nose. Based on the discussion, the electronic nose is a portable detection tool that is user friendly, fast and accurate for the identification and detection of food products based on the presence of the aroma of volatile compounds in the material. The advantages of this electronic nose have the potential to be used as an alternative rapid detection instrument in food testing, especially in authenticating pork and pig derivative.
