A cucurbit[8]uril-based supramolecular phosphorescent assembly: Cell imaging and sensing of amino acids in aqueous solution

In recent years, host-guest interactions of macrocycles have emerged as a promising approach to effectively enhance pure organic room-temperature phosphorescence by inhibiting the nonradiative relaxation while isolating the effects of oxygen and water molecules. In this work, a supramolecular assembly Q[8]-BCPI was constructed by 6-bromoisoquinoline derivative (BCPI) and cucurbit[8]uril (Q[8]). The assembly produced intense green room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emission and enabled supramolecular recognition and detection of l-tryptophan (L-Trp) and l-tyrosine (L-Tyr). Moreover, the Q[8]-BCPI assembly showed good biocompatibility and low biotoxicity, and had a good staining effect on HeLa cells.

Preparation of Flower-like Nanosilver Based on Bioderived Caffeic Acid for Raman Enhancement and Dye Degradation.

In this study, a simple, green, and low-cost room temperature synthesis of broccoli-like silver nanoflowers (AgNF) with a particle size of about 300-500 nm was developed using plant-derived caffeic acid as a reducing agent and polyvinylpyrrolidone as a dispersant under ultrasound assistance. The flower clusters covered by small nanocrystals of 20-50 nm significantly enhance the electromagnetic field signals. AgNF was deposited on the surface of silicon wafers as a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy sensor for the detection of probe molecules such as rhodamine 6G (R6G) and malachite green with high sensitivity, homogeneity, and reproducibility. AgNF was deposited on cotton fabrics in the form of composites to catalyze the degradation of dye pollutants such as R6G, MG, and methyl orange in the presence of sodium borohydride. 0.1 g of AgNF/cotton fabric could assist 15 mmol/L NaBH4 to achieve over 90% degradation of various dyes as well as a high concentration of dyes in 12 min with good reusability and recyclability. The AgNF synthesized in this work can not only monitor the type and amounts of pollutants (dyes) in wastewater but also catalyze the rapid degradation of dyes, which is expected to be valuable for industrial applications.

Analysis of the implementation of green hotel in Villa Kayu Raja Bali

Green hotels use green practices to reduce environmental impacts and increase the sustainability of hotel operations, including saving energy, managing waste and waste, and building design. This study aims to determine the application of the green hotel in Villa Kayu Raja Bali. This research is useful to encourage the hospitality industry to adopt environmentally friendly measures for sustainability. The types of data in this study are primary data and secondary data. The data collection method was obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaire distribution with a saturated sample of 32 employees as respondents and 2 informants. Data analysis techniques in this study use descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The results showed an application value of 2.94 that overall the application of green hotels in Villa Kayu Raja Bali has been implemented well. Indicators that have been well implemented are architecture, water conservation, implementing new methods of saving electrical and water energy, the environment in the building, guest rooms, places to eat, saving paper, materials that need to be washed grouped, green guest rooms, green food, and green training programs. The indicators that need to be improved are in new energy; utilizing new energy and renewable energy sources, implementing new methods of saving solar energy, and environmental protection tools, namely refrigerators and air conditioners without Freon.

HFIP-Mediated Multicomponent Reactions: Synthesis of Pyrazole-Linked Thiazole Derivatives.

The development of one-pot, atom, and step-economic new methods avoiding metal, harsh reaction conditions, and toxic reagents for the synthesis of medicinally important hybrid molecules bearing more than one bioactive moieties is currently one of the hot topics in organic synthesis. Herein, we report a green and efficient room temperature multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of novel pyrazole-linked thiazoles involving a one-pot C-C, C-N, and C-S bond-forming process from the reaction of aryl glyoxal, aryl thioamide, and pyrazolones in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol, a hydrogen bond donating reaction medium. A set of diverse hybrid molecules bearing thiazole and pyrazole moieties were prepared in good to excellent yields by using this method. This methodology can also be extended to prepare thiazole-linked barbiturates as well as imidazole-linked pyrazoles. All the products were fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The notable features of this protocol are room temperature, metal as well as additive-free reaction conditions, use of recyclable solvent, water as the byproduct, wide substrate scope, operational simplicity, easy purification, applicability for gram-scale synthesis, high atom economy, and the presence of two bioactive pyrazole and thiazole moieties in the products.

Effects of environmental sustainability practice in the economy hotel to Gen Zer’s purchase decision: Behavior economy approach using choice based conjoint analysis

Generation Z consumers value sustainability and affordable accommodation. To target this demographic and gain a competitive edge, hotels should adopt socially responsible practices. Implementing a well-crafted CSR plan lays the foundation for sustainable development, that can lead to enhancing long-term financial performance of hotel companies. Few studies have explored environmentally friendly or green economy hotels. This study investigates consumer willingness to pay for green economy hotels, using a DCE and conjoint analysis to uncover generational differences. Findings reveal that Generation Z consumers exhibit a higher willingness to pay for environmentally sustainable economy hotels. The results indicate that due to an increased maximum willingness to pay for green features and green brand perception, economy hotels could charge up to $36 USD more for green economy hotel rooms. This research provides valuable insights for identifying consumer’s willingness to pay with and consumer segmentation among Generation Z and non-Generation Z consumers.

Hannah Gadsby: Emotional Capital and Affective Economies in Stand-Up Comedy

Being a stand-up comic requires skills: the ability to craft jokes and perform them; the capacity to “read the room” and adapt material during the performance; and business savvy needed to network with fellow comics and industry gatekeepers. Comedians are performers as much as they are business entrepreneurs for their own brand. Negotiating these demands requires emotional capital which, like other forms of capital, is unequally distributed and identity-contingent. High levels of performances of emotional capital can inform success by ensuring good working relationships with others in the industry and developing content that will effectively elicit laughter across communities. Comics attuned to patterns of comedy patronage understand that they are selling entertainment as well as an emotional experience and learn to comply with affective dictates of this performance genre. But not all comics are compliant, nor can they be when affective demands posing as natural are meant to favor cis-gendered, heterosexual, white, able-bodied men. By contrast, Hannah Gadsby is a gender non-conforming, neurodiverse, white, lesbian stand-up comedian whose very existence in comedy venues as well as their comic material itself troubles traditional constructions of emotional capital necessary for effective comedy performance while simultaneously defying the emotions typically demanded from comic performances. They resist and are sometimes unable to deploy the kinds of emotional capital presumed necessary for securing success in the industry. Gadsby’s perceived deficiencies in emotional capital tell us much about the ascendant affective economies circulating today—in green rooms and on stages across the world.

Applied aspect of taking into account the child's opinion in the civil procedure for ensuring His/her best interests

The purpose of the article is an attempt to reveal, through applied research, the grounds and procedure for clarifying and taking into account the child's opinion by the court in the form of obtaining a sufficiently formulated child's opinion as a necessary and reliable statement in the case. Results of the research. It is proved that the procedure for ascertaining and taking into account the child's opinion by the court itself includes two interrelated components 1) the substantive aspect, which is disclosed through the relevant regulatory framework and conditions for such a procedure – laws, international standards which determine the grounds for determining the child's attitude to a particular circumstance in a dispute; 2) the procedural aspect – defines the actual peculiarities of such a procedure, determines the persons authorized to conduct it (other than the court) and other issues which may arise. The author substantiates that the procedure for obtaining a child's opinion and then taking it into account should begin with procedural opportunities to exercise the child's right to freely express his or her opinion in various ways, and the Supreme Court has repeatedly expressed its opinion on this issue. At the same time, the author establishes that the realization of the child's right to free expression of his/her opinion must be consistent with other grounds which the court must take into account. It is proved that the child's right to express his/her opinion in the procedural procedure for taking his/her opinion into account is also revealed through such an aspect of it as «the child's right to be heard in the course of consideration of family issues by the courts». In this regard, the ECtHR has formulated general principles which state that although Article 8 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms does not contain clear procedural requirements, the child should be sufficiently involved in decision-making regarding his or her family and private life. The author proposes to introduce specialization of judges and pilot courts of first instance with «Green Rooms», where, according to statistics, the civil cases under study are most often heard, with the mandatory involvement of a psychologist to conduct such a procedure, with further legislative consolidation of the specifics of the procedural procedure under study in the procedural legislation. "In the Studio" with William Kentridge

Abstract Abstract This interview attempts to explore both the individual and collective creative processes of the prolific and world-renowned multiple media visual and performance artist, William Kentridge. It takes place in Paris where the artist has under 30 minutes to engage in a dialogue before the very first performance of his Chamber opera, Sybil, in a theatre new to the troupe. The conversation takes place backstage in the green room, but the dialogue is engaged in a complicit and playful manner, drawing on common backgrounds and histories to cut corners and spare formalities.The result is a new angle on what “Studioness” has become for the artist, although he had never really considered it that way. Exploring the inward-looking and outward-reaching movements within studio practice, the author seeks to enlarge the notion of studio to include remote and virtual practices in the reflection. The impact of, and response to, the COVID-19 lockdown period is central to the discussion.

Enhanced atmospheric water harvesting efficiency through green-synthesized MOF-801: a comparative study with solvothermal synthesis

Adsorption-based atmospheric water harvesting has emerged as a compelling solution in response to growing global water demand. In this context, Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered considerable interest due to their unique structure and intrinsic porosity. Here, MOF 801 was synthesized using two different methods: solvothermal and green room temperature synthesis. Comprehensive characterization indicated the formation of MOF-801 with high phase purity, small crystallite size, and excellent thermal stability. Nitrogen adsorption–desorption analysis revealed that green-synthesized MOF-801 possessed an 89% higher specific surface area than its solvothermal-synthesized counterpart. Both adsorbents required activation at a minimum temperature of 90 °C for optimal adsorption performance. Additionally, green-synthesized MOF-801 demonstrated superior adsorption performance compared to solvothermal-synthesized MOF-801, attributed to its small crystal size (around 66 nm), more hydrophilic functional groups, greater specific surface area (691.05 m2/g), and the possibility of having a higher quantity of defects. The maximum water adsorption capacity in green-synthesized MOF-801 was observed at 25 °C and 80% relative humidity, with a value of 41.1 g/100 g, a 12% improvement over the solvothermal-synthesized MOF-801. Remarkably, even at a 30% humidity level, green-synthesized MOF-801 displayed a considerable adsorption capacity of 31.5 g/100 g. Importantly, MOF-801 exhibited long-term effectiveness in multiple adsorption cycles without substantial efficiency decline.

Green approach for sustainable production of paraffin fuel from CO2 hydrogenation on Fe-MOF catalyst

With increasing global fuel demand, circular carbon economy and related carbon-neutral fuels are a cleaner way to reduce CO2 emissions significantly. Our work involves utilizing green hydrogen formed by water electrolysis and CO2 to produce paraffin hydrocarbon (up to C16) using a well-distributed and small particle size (∼3 nm) iron-based metal-organic framework (Fe-MOF) catalyst. The MIL-100(Fe) MOF precursor was synthesized with a green, cost-efficient, large-scale, and facile room temperature method. The highest CO2 conversion (44.1 %) and low CO selectivity (7.5 %) was attained at 340 °C and 30 bar. The paraffin hydrocarbon product (99 %, yielding 40.3 %) is composed mainly of natural gas (C1-C4) (90 %) and liquid fuel (10 %) in the gasoline range (C5-C12). However, adjusting conditions at 300 °C and 10 bar directed the liquid fuel to the kerosene range C5-C16 (11 %). The catalyst's capacity to function as an industrial catalyst was proved after more than 120 h on a continuous stream without sintering or deactivation. Compared to reference catalyst and earlier work, the unpromoted Fe-MOF-derived catalyst shows excellent potential for CO2 mitigation and production of combined gas and liquid alkane fuel.

Green light-activated room temperature NO2 sensor based on PTCDA-loaded ZnO nanocluster

Flower-like zinc oxide nanoclusters were successfully incorporated by different amount of PTCDA organic dye molecular, forming the hetero-structured PTCDA/ZnO composites. Remarkably, a study performed on their NO2 sensing properties reveals that the 0.5 wt% PTCDA-loaded ZnO sensor exhibits high response, excellent selectivity, quick response speed and low detection limit of 7.4 ppb towards NO2 molecules at room temperature (25 °C) under green light illumination, which possesses an apparent advantage over the ZnO sensors loaded with other PTCDA concentration as well as upon other light illumination conditions. This work makes a meaningful contribution to the development of NO2 sensor based on wide-band gap semiconductors with visible light irradiation.

Mooring in the green room. Sailors’ preferences and willingness to pay for green policies in marinas

‘Going green’ is still challenging in the yachting industry partly due to the lack of consumer-centric approaches. This study assesses sailors' preferences and willingness to pay for green policies in marinas, in the context of other measures to increase health security and digital transformation. To do so, a choice experiment was designed through the lens of stakeholders and supported by the Delphi technique. The study is based on the marinas of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic crossing and involved European sailors as potential users. Data confirm that sailors' utility and intention to visit marinas increase the most when ambitious green programs are in place, thereby confirming a high environmental sensitivity among them. More specifically, solar energy use, single-use plastic eradication, and waste recycling are the programs with the greatest positive impact on sailors' willingness to pay. This indicates a potential profitability and market opportunities derived from more environmental friendly practices in marinas. The study opens a new perspective to improve incentive and funding schemes and close implementation gaps in recreational ports.

What Kind of “Green” do the Guests Want? An Exploration of Adoption of Luxury Hotel Green Room Attributes

This study aims to provide insights for sustainability initiatives in Singapore luxury hotels. We explore the impact of green room attributes toward guests’ satisfaction and hotel selection. We surveyed 387 respondents to identify their preferences for green room attributes. Among different green room attributes, we find that younger travelers are satisfied with cloth laundry bags, while older travelers appreciate wooden keys. A female guest is more likely to enjoy eco-friendly food and beverages amenities, while a male guest is more likely to appreciate motion or occupancy sensors. With regard to choosing a hotel, those traveling for leisure and at an older age ranked service quality as more important. Female travelers appreciate cleanliness compared to room rates, and those with higher education ranked sustainability initiatives higher. The analysis of demographic factors can be referenced by the hospitality industry practitioners and the hoteliers of luxury hotels operators when they plan to implement green room features or marketing strategies targeted to a specific segment of customers. As for the greater aim, the research contributes to the literature that focuses on the rise of green consumption to support global sustainability initiatives.

Transforming the University into an Environmental Space

The Environmental Management Superintendence of the Maranhão State University, which works its Environmental Management System through the Environmental Agenda in Public Administration, education for sustainability is being developed continuously and based on A3P since 2015, in all its six axes. In the axis, Awareness and Training of Servants, the opportunity arises to raise awareness environmental issues not only the academic community, but also society as a whole. Through the development of the Green Room Circuit Project, which has been under development since 2018 at the university, the objective was to describe the actions carried out in the year 2021 and to analyze the environmental perceptions of the public after remotely participating in the Green Room Circuit at the Paulo VI Campus. The Circuit consists of five dynamic and successive stages, where lectures corresponding to the contents that would be worked on in each stage were remotely applied. In 2021, due to the pandemic, the Green Room Circuit returned to activities in May, remotely. Fourteen circuits were carried out during the period from May to December, between the different levels of education, 29% of the elementary level, 64% of the secondary level and 7% of the technical level. The activities developed were thematic lectures on: composting, sustainable actions, fungi, agroecological trails, conservation of snakes, mammals and endangered animals. From the public, 580 visitors participated, being 97% students and 3% teachers. The Green Room Circuit on the Paulo VI Campus, education schools in the state of Maranhão has gained an alternative place to know and experience environmental education in an articulated way beyond the classroom, as well as, in the approximation and interaction between basic and higher education system.

Rancang Bangun Alat Pemantau Dan Kontrol Kondisi Ruangan Green House Untuk Budidaya Tanaman Stroberi Berbasis Internet of Things (IoT)

Strawberries are horticultural crops that can grow well in subtropical regions. Strawberries require cool environmental conditions with temperatures between 17°C-20°C and humidity between 80% -90%. Cultivating strawberries in the tropics is a challenge in itself because of the temperature and humidity in this area. One way to cultivate strawberry plants in the tropics is to use a Green House. Green House is designed to maintain the temperature and humidity according to the needs of the strawberry plants. This study aims to create a system monitoring and controlling greenhouses using the internet of things. Users can monitor and control the condition of the Green House via an Android smartphone with the Blynk application. When the air temperature and humidity values are in the Green House, the system will work to readjust the temperature and humidity in the Green House. This system uses ESP32 as the control center and a DHT22 sensor to measure air temperature and humidity. Based on the results of the design and performance analysis of the tool, the accuracy of the air temperature gauge is 99.52% and the air humidity is 99.29%. The system successfully controlled the temperature and humidity in the Green House room for 23 days of testing.

Room Temperature Surfactant-Free Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles in Alkaline Ethylene Glycol

Gold nanoparticles are easily obtained by a range of room temperature processes. In particular, polyols-based syntheses performed in alkaline conditions without the need for surfactants lead to small size nanoparticles around 10 nm in diameter. While highly viscous polyols, such as glycerol, have been the most studied polyols with which to perform the reaction, the use of alternative alcohols with lower viscosity could benefit the processing of the nanoparticles. Here, we show that ethylene glycol is a suitable alternative to glycerol. Via a study comprising more than 70 experiments overall, we identified that the key parameters by which to control nanoparticle size and colloidal stability are the amount of base used and the amount of ethylene glycol. Too-high or too-low values of base and/or ethylene glycol do not lead to stable colloidal nanoparticles. An optimal Base/Gold molar ratio is around 4 and an optimal amount of ethylene glycol is around 30 v.% to obtain stable ca. 10 nm Au NPs and to develop a green room temperature surfactant-free colloidal synthesis of gold nanoparticles.

Connecting Climate Change and Canadian Theatre: Reflecting on the Impact of the NAC’s Climate Cycle

The arts have a unique way of affecting the way that people feel about environmental issues in ways that other forms of communication cannot. The National Arts Centre (NAC) Climate Cycle was a program that the NAC English Theatre developed as a response to the escalating climate crisis to engage artists deeply in discussions on climate change and to grapple with how the performing arts can respond. It took place over two meetings: the Summit in Banff in 2019, which was in person, and the Green Rooms in 2020, which was online. To answer our main question of how participating in these events impacted artists’ behaviour and professional practices, we engaged with the participants through a series of surveys and in-depth interviews. Based on the results, we found that artists were impacted in three main ways: (1) instilling a sense of community among the participants; (2) encouraging the participants to continue their learning; and (3) enacting strategies to ‘green’ their practices, such as reducing touring and using alternative materials in set design. This project was helpful in understanding how the Cycle impacted artists, but it also contributed to our overall understanding of what meaningful engagement with artists on environmental topics looks like. This project was first completed as part of an undergraduate thesis in May 2021. In this most recent article, we reflect on what this research means a year later.

Promoting Green Buildings and Low-Carbon Design Strategies of Green B&B Rooms for Sustainable Tourism after COVID-19

COVID-19 opened a window of opportunity to change the green development of the hospitality industry. For many years, Chinese tourists have been the world’s largest source of outbound tourists. Therefore, this study attempted to improve built-environment strategies for green rooms at B&Bs using the empirical statistics of Chinese tourists after the end of COVID-19 control measures and different green B&B standards, combining IPA (importance-performance analysis). For the lack of a green built-environment study from a tourism perspective, this study can be used mainly for improving the green satisfaction of urban B&Bs as it attempted to fill the gaps in research on green B&B rooms. This study will significantly help improve the quality of green rooms for the B&B industry in the future, and it also provides an improved green B&B room sample for other countries and regions. Moreover, it is an optimistic attempt at hospitality and tourism recovery.
