Enhanced photocatalytic and supercapacitor performance of CeO2 nano foam integrated MWCNT and rGO nanocomposites

In this study, Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs) with foam like morphology were prepared using the Moringa Oleifera seed extract-assisted green synthesis method. The prepared CeO2 NPs were integrated respectively with reduced graphene oxide (CeO2/rGO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CeO2/MWCNT) via a simple one-pot reflex method. The structural and morphological features and elemental characteristics, including the physico-chemical and thermal characteristics of the samples, were assessed. The photocatalytic degradation ability of the catalyst was tested against Alizarin Red (AR) and Safranin (SF) dyes. Under sunlight, degradation efficiencies of 92.62%, 95.46%, and 99.62% were achieved against Safranin dye by CeO2, CeO2/MWCNT, and CeO2/rGO, respectively. The XRD analysis shows the structural phase stability of the nanocatalyst even after five cycles. The supercapacitor characteristics of all anode electrode samples were assessed. Moreover, the specific capacitance values of 370, 413, and 554 Fg-1 were measured using cyclic voltammetry at a scan rate of 5 mV/s for CeO2, CeO2/MWCNT, and CeO2/rGO, respectively. After undergoing 3000 charge-discharge cycles, the hybrid CeO2/rGO nanocomposite revealed admirable cycling stability with an 8.6% decrease in its specific capacitance. According to the results, the green-mediated CeO2/rGO heterojunction nano semiconducting materials are promising candidates for twin applications in photocatalysis and supercapacitors.

Preparation of Microfiltration Membrane with Good Conductivity and Its Antifouling Performance

Membrane fouling restricts the widespread adoption and application of membrane separation technology. Electrically assisted membrane filtration has proven effective in mitigating this issue. The development of conductive membranes is crucial in this process. In this study, graphene oxide (GO), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were incorporated into polypyrrole/polyvinylidene fluoride (PPy/PVDF) to create the composite conductive membranes GO/PPy/PVDF, TiO2/PPy/PVDF and MWCNT/PPy/PVDF. These membranes demonstrated strong acid resistance, but lacked resistance to strong alkali corrosion. The hydrophilicity of the composite membranes improved compared to that of PPy/PVDF, with the TiO2/PPy/PVDF membrane exhibiting the highest hydrophilicity, evidenced by a contact angle of only 57.52°. The membrane conductivity of MWCNT/PPy/PVDF significantly increased, being 3.27 times that of the PPy/PVDF membrane, due to the inherent excellent conductivity of MWCNT and the increased electron transfer channels. Among the membranes tested, the TiO2/PPy/PVDF membrane, with outstanding hydrophilicity, achieved a water flux of up to 1085L·h−1m−2. It also showed superior antifouling characteristics, with a high flux recovery rate (97.10%) and a low irreversible fouling rate (2.90%) when tested against bovine serum albumin and sodium alginate as foulants.

Miniaturized Electrochemical Gas Sensor with a Functional Nanocomposite and Thin Ionic Liquid Interface for Highly Sensitive and Rapid Detection of Hydrogen.

Hydrogen has been widely used in industrial and commercial applications as a carbon-free, efficient energy source. Due to the high flammability and explosion risk of hydrogen-air mixtures, it is vital to develop sensors featuring fast-responding and high sensitivity for hydrogen leakage detection. This paper presents a miniaturized electrochemical gas sensor by elaborately establishing a nanocomposite and thin ionic liquid interface for highly sensitive and rapid electrochemical detection of hydrogen, in which a remarkable response time and recovery time of approximately 6 s was achieved at room temperature. A screen-printed carbon electrode was modified with a reduced graphene oxide-carbon nanotube (rGO-CNT) hybrid and platinum-palladium (Pt-Pd) bimetallic nanoparticles to realize high sensitivity. To achieve miniaturization and high stability of the sensor, a thin-film room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) was employed as the electrolyte with a significantly decreased response time. The fast-responding hydrogen sensor demonstrates excellent performance with high sensitivity, linearity, and repeatability at concentrations below the lower explosive limit of 4 vol %. The engineered high-performance interface and gas sensor provide a promising and effective strategy for gas sensor design and rapid hazardous gas monitoring.

Amphiphilic block‐copolymer exfoliated transition metal dichalcogenides as novel epoxy toughening agents

AbstractExcited by the effect of amphiphilic block copolymer Polyethylene glycol‐b‐Polypropylene Glycol‐b‐Polyethylene Glycol, a triblock copolymer (TBCP) in the virgin state as well as in the grafted form with graphene oxide and multiwalled carbon nanotube in epoxy toughening, the effect of the same block copolymer in the exfoliation of graphene analogous Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) was studied. Even though epoxy resin has several advantages, its inherent brittleness and flammability limit its application in several areas. So, there is a need for the efficient toughening of epoxy resin to make it appropriate for high‐end applications. In the present work, epoxy resin was toughened with exfoliated TMDs, especially Molybdenum sulfide and Tungsten disulfide (MoS2 and WS2). TBCP was used in the exfoliation of TMDs where the effect of these exfoliated TMDs in enhancing the properties of epoxy was evaluated. TBCP exfoliated MoS2 and WS2 exhibit fracture toughness of 483% and 636%, respectively in epoxy composites without compromising the tensile properties, which enhances the efficacy of epoxy resins towards high‐end applications. The improvement in toughness is evident from the fractography of the crack surfaces. The role of TBCP exfoliated TMDs in tuning the mechanical, thermal, and thermomechanical properties is portrayed in the manuscript, thereby unveiling the potential of yet another unique class of materials in epoxy toughening.Highlights The efficiency of amphiphilic block copolymer in exfoliating TMDs is analyzed. The effect of TBCP‐exfoliated TMDs as a toughener for the epoxy matrix is portrayed. 483% and 636% improvement in the toughness compared to neat epoxy was obtained for TBCP exfoliated MoS2 and WS2 reinforced epoxy respectively. Improved tensile properties after incorporation of TBCP exfoliated TMDs in epoxy matrix. The plasticizing effect of TBCP compromises the thermal properties.

Extraction and Analysis of Mycotoxins from Whole Wheat Flour - A Methods Efficiency Comparison

Abstract Wheat is considered as staple food source for 40% of the population worldwide. Yet, the yield and quality can be compromised by fungal diseases, which are also responsible for mycotoxins presence at wheat seeds and originating foodstuff. In this context, the tackling of this problem by developing regulatory limits and standards have induced the development of various methods for sampling, extraction, identification and quantification of mycotoxins in food samples. This review addresses the comparison of the technical and cost efficiency of methods for the extraction and qualitative- quantitative analysis of mycotoxins from whole wheat flour. Methods of extraction such as the Solvent Extraction method, the Liquid Liquid Extraction, the Solid Liquid Extraction, the Solid Phase Extraction, the Immuno-Affinity Columns, the QuEChERS, and the use of absorbent nanomaterials such as graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes in extraction procedures, are described in principle, technical details are presented, and examples of reported use are given. Methods of mycotoxin analysis such as Immunological Assays (LFIA, ELISA, FPIA), the Sensor-based (Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor, Piezoelectric Sensors, Electrochemical Sensors, Colorimetric Sensors), and Chromatographic Techniques (TLC, GC, HPLC, HPLC-FLD, LC-MS/MS, UPLC-MS/MS, UHPLC-MS/MS, UFLC-MS/MS) are reviewed. To compare their efficiency, main advantages and disadvantages, the ongoing improvements, as well as the validation parameters (linearity, recovery range, RSDr range, RSDR %, LOQ range, and cut off) are summarized, and pairing of extraction to analysis methods for specific mycotoxins is provided. It was evidenced that none of methods already in use is capable of analyzing all mycotoxin categories at once, because of their chemical characteristics (volatile/non-volatile, co-elution, UV absorption, fluorescence) versus methods restrictions (matrix interferences, cross-reactivity of antibodies, selectivity and reproducibility of data, need for derivatization, etc). Also, depending on the purpose of the analysis (research or screening as part of legal requirements), to date the immunological methods are only suitable for validated matrices, biosensors can be used for routine screening, and that GC-MS and HPLC-based methods fulfill the legal requirements. In conclusion, while the selectivity and accuracy of methods for mycotoxin detection is being improved rapidly (those sensor-based thanks to the use of nanoparticles, nanomaterials, aptasensors, etc., and the chromatographic techniques coupled with mass spectrometry offer a higher selectivity and sensitivity, low detection limits, maintained resolution performance), and the duration of the analysis, the cost, and the need for highly-skilled staff go in favor of rapid methods (immunological and sensors-based), it is the capacity to fulfill legal requirements, which will determine the trend and their future success in the market.

Engineered Amine-Functionalized Metal-Organic Framework to Fabricate a Composite for Next-Generation Asymmetric Supercapacitors with Ultrahigh Performance: Modulating the Energy Storage Barrier.

The present work summarizes the fabrication of an amine-functionalized cadmium-based metal-organic framework (MOF), {[Cd(AT)(BP)]·4DMF}n or Cd_AT-BP, by adopting a simple solvothermal approach using 2-aminoterephthalic acid (AT) as the main linker, while 4,4'-bipyridyl (BP) as an auxiliary linker. The structure of Cd_AT-BP was validated by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique that revealed the formation of an overall three-dimensional network with BP acting as a bridge between the 2D sheets of the MOF. The robust framework of Cd_AT-BP decorated with a free amine functional group was utilized for energy storage application. The electrochemical measurements of Cd_AT-BP revealed a maximum areal capacitance of 9.8 mF/cm2 at a scan rate of 5 mV/s. Further, to enhance the practical utility of Cd_AT-BP in energy storage devices, two composites of Cd_AT-BP with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), viz., Cd_AT-BP/rGO and Cd_AT-BP/CNT, were prepared by adopting a facile ultrasonication approach. The synthesized Cd_AT-BP/rGO and Cd_AT-BP/CNT composites displayed an impressive areal capacitance of 117 and 37 mF/cm2 (58.5 and 17.5 F/g) at a scan rate of 5 mV/s, respectively, and a capacitance retention of up to 118 and 100% after 5000 cycles at a constant current density of 5 mA/cm2. The highest energy density of about 4.23 mW h/cm2 (2.12 W h/kg) at a current density of 1 mA/cm2 was shown by Cd_AT-BP/rGO among all the three materials attributable to the layered structure of rGO, providing a larger surface area accessible for ion adsorption. Enticed by the remarkable outcomes exhibited by Cd_AT-BP/rGO, we fabricated a two-electrode asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device. The developed ASC device revealed energy and power densities of 26.7 mW h/cm2 (13.4 W h/kg) and 3760 mW/cm2 (1880 W/kg), respectively, with a galvanostatic charge-discharge stability of up to 10,000 cycles. The findings identify Cd_AT-BP/rGO as a potential contender for future-generation supercapacitors.

Plasticized PVC composites comprising MWCNT‐RGO hybrid filler–the synergetic effect of hybrids on the dielectric and mechanical properties

AbstractModification of polymers with hybrid fillers has sought much attention in the past few years. The addition of hybrid fillers will lead to a synergistic effect in reinforcing and is advantageous in polymer nanocomposites. One such attempt is presented here that explores the effect of incorporation of hybrid derived from reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) on the dielectric and mechanical properties of plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PPVC). This system of hybrid composite incorporating RGO‐CNT and PPVC has not been prepared and reported yet. Melt mixing techniques were effectively used for the fabrication of PPVC nanocomposites containing the hybrid filler in different ratios. The prepared composites showed enhanced dielectric strength in the lower frequency region up to 450 and high AC conductivity. The mutual stacking and penetration of the 1D‐2D nanomaterials lead to effective dispersion and enhancement in the electronic conduction. Among the hybrids, the R1C5 (with the filler ration RGO 1 wt% and CNT 5%) was having the optimum properties. The tensile modulus showed a cumulative variation with the addition of CNT. Even though the tensile strength decreased slightly because of the immobilization of the PPVC chains by the hybrid effect, the modulus value showed a marked increase of over 90% from the virgin polymer. The PPVC composite with R1C5 hybrid filler exhibited an EMI shielding efficiency of ⁓23 dB and it was frequency independent. The results suggest the composite R1C5 should be used as a cost‐effective material for applications in the L‐band and S‐band regions.

Porous reduced graphene oxide@multi-walled carbon nanotubes/polydimethylsiloxane piezoresistive pressure sensor for human motion detection

With the rapid development of wearable electronic, smart robot and health monitoring, there is a growing focus on flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors. Herein, a new strategy is proposed to prepare flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with porous polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sponge as matrix and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for the construction of dual-conductive network. The sensor exhibited excellent overall sensing performances (pressure detection range of 0–200 kPa, sensitivity of 1.62 kPa−1 in 0–29 kPa and 0.41 kPa−1 in 29–65 kPa, response/recovery time of 61/40 ms and 22,000 loading-unloading cycles at 0–15 % compressive strain). Meanwhile, the sensor was able to normally work in the range of 30–100 °C and affected little by temperature. In addition, the sensor was successfully applied for detecting various human motions as well as music recognition and identification. The piezoresistive pressure sensor has great application prospect in wearable devices, health monitoring, and human-machine interaction.

Hybrid films composed of reduced graphene oxide and polypyrrole-derived nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes for flexible supercapacitors

Electrode materials for flexible supercapacitors possessing exceptional and maintaining electrical properties have garnered significant attention in academic research. The graphene oxide (GO) and polypyrrole-derived nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) were mixed to obtain a GO/N-CNTs film. The GO/N-CNTs film was then reduced to prepare a flexible reduced GO (rGO)/N-CNTs film. The specific capacitance of the rGO/N-CNTs film electrode was 223.2 F g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1. The rGO/N-CNTs supercapacitor exhibited a specific capacitance of 130 F g−1 and energy density of 18.04 Wh·kg−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1. Furthermore, the capacitance retention of the supercapacitor was 68.7 % when the current density increased to 20 A g−1. In addition, the cyclic voltammetry test indicated that the capacitance retention of the supercapacitor remained at 82.7 % after 8000 cycles, and the capacitance retention still reached 70 % even after bending 600 times. The present study successfully presented the remarkable electrical characteristics of supercapacitors based on rGO/N-CNTs films. Additionally, the investigation has highlighted the noteworthy flexibility of supercapacitors, a feature of considerable significance for applications in wearable technology, portable electronic devices, and flexible displays.

Electrochemical properties of novel redox active electrode coatings based on heterocyclic polyazines and its nanocomposites with carbon nanomaterials

This work aims to study electrode materials based on unsubstituted polyazines and composites which will allow further advancing both in the molecular design of redox polymers, composites and materials and evaluating their potential applicability. The polymers were prepared by two-phase chemical oxidative polymerization. Polymer-carbon nanocomposites (NC) based on unsubstituted polyphenoxazine were prepared for the first time. The physicochemical and electrochemical properties were compared for NCs based on polyphenothiazine (PPTA), polyphenoxazine (PPOA) and carbon nanomaterials (CNM). The used CNMs comprise reduced graphene oxide (RGO), single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT and MWCNT). The NC structure and morphology were studied by means of FT IR spectroscopy, XRD, FE-SEM and TEM. The limited solubility of some monomers prevents their electrochemical deposition on electrodes. Therefore, to study the electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical behavior and electrochemical impedance of novel redox active electrode coatings, suspensions of synthesized polymers or their NCs were applied onto electrodes and dried. The effect of NC composition on the conductivity and redox activity thereof was discovered. In general, composites have a higher conductivity than individual polymers. Despite differences in electrical conductivity, all samples exhibited electrocatalytic behavior demonstrated for example of Fe(II)/Fe(III) cyanide redox transition on a planar electrode in a K3[Fe(CN)6] solution in 1 M H2SO4. The electronic absorption spectra were recorded in-situ in an electrochemical cell by varying the working electrode potential and showed an electrochromic effect for PPTA and CNM/PPTA. The proposed common equivalent electric circuit allowed explaining the different electrochemical properties of polymers and CNM composites thereof.

Investigations of nanomaterial-based membranes for efficient removal of contaminants from wastewater via membrane distillation: a critical review

The requirement for wastewater treatment is paramount in ensuring environmental sustainability and safeguarding public health. As industrialization and urbanization accelerate, the volume of wastewater generated continues to increase, containing a diverse range of pollutants and contaminants. Untreated wastewater poses serious threats to ecosystems, water bodies, and human communities, leading to pollution, waterborne diseases, and ecological imbalances. Effective wastewater treatment becomes essential to mitigate these adverse effects by removing or reducing pollutants before discharge into natural water sources. This process helps to preserve water quality, protect aquatic life, and maintain the overall health of ecosystems. Membrane distillation (MD) has emerged as a promising technology for wastewater treatment, offering an innovative approach to address the challenges associated with conventional treatment methods. In MD, a hydrophobic membrane serves as a selective barrier, allowing water vapor to pass through while preventing the passage of contaminants. This paper offers an extensive overview of the latest advancements in nanotechnology and membrane distillation applied in wastewater treatment. We will delve into different types of nanomaterials that have been used to enhance the properties of MD membranes, such as nanocomposites, nanoparticles, and nanofiber membranes. We also explore the mechanisms by which these nanomaterials improve the separation efficiency, anti-fouling properties, and durability of MD membranes. Additionally, we highlight the potential of hybrid membranes that combine different types of nanomaterials for further improving the performance of MD in wastewater treatment. We provide examples of recent studies that have investigated the use of hybrid membranes, including carbon nanotube-graphene oxide hybrid membranes, nanocomposite nanofiber membranes, and silver nanoparticle-embedded membranes. We also identify some areas for future research and development, such as the scale-up and commercialization of nanotechnology-based MD systems. In summary, this review paper highlights the potential of nanotechnology to enhance the performance of MD in wastewater treatment, leading to improved water quality and a cleaner environment.

Design of flexible micro-porous fiber with double conductive network synergy for high-performance strain sensor

Flexible wearable strain sensor is a vital part of intelligent wearable systems due to their broad applications in human–machine interaction and smart clothes. Flexible strain sensor fabricated via conventional blending conductive polymer composites has some drawbacks, for example, low sensitivity, large hysteresis, and “shoulder-peak” phenomenon, which limit their practical applications greatly. Herein, we prepared a fiber-shaped strain sensor with a micro-porous, three-layer structure together with a dual conductive network based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The strain sensor demonstrates excellent response behaviors, including splendid stretchability (686 %), wide detection range (120 %), high sensitivity (gauge factor = 300), fast response time (300 ms) and excellent durability (over 9000 cycles). The unique dual conductive network structure endows the strain sensor with remarkable recoverability and reproducibility. The resistance of the strain sensor can recover to nearly initial conditions after the releasing process, exhibiting lower hysteresis. The “shoulder-peak” phenomenon has also been weakened based on the microstructure and conductive network design. Based on the high sensitivity and excellent response behavior, the fiber-shaped strain sensor performs real-time monitoring of breathing, finger bending, walking, and other human motions, providing a good candidate for its application in intelligent wearable devices.

Influence of Reduced Graphene Oxide and Carbon Nanotubes on the Structural, Electrical, and Photoluminescent Properties of Chitosan Films.

Chitosan is a biopolymer with unique properties that have attracted considerable attention in various scientific fields in recent decades. Although chitosan is known for its poor electrical and mechanical properties, there is interest in producing chitosan-based materials reinforced with carbon-based materials to impart exceptional properties such as high electrical conductivity and high Young's modulus. This study describes the synergistic effect of carbon-based materials, such as reduced graphene oxide and carbon nanotubes, in improving the electrical, optical, and mechanical properties of chitosan-based films. Our findings demonstrate that the incorporation of reduced graphene oxide influences the crystallinity of chitosan, which considerably impacts the mechanical properties of the films. However, the incorporation of a reduced graphene oxide-carbon nanotube complex not only significantly improves the mechanical properties but also significantly improves the optical and electrical properties, as was demonstrated from the photoluminescence studies and resistivity measurements employing the four-probe technique. This is a promising prospect for the synthesis of new materials, such as biopolymer films, with potential applications in optical, electrical, and biomedical bioengineering applications.

Electrical and structural behavior of copper nanocomposites encapsulated with modified graphene oxide graft and carbon nanotubes (cu@GO-g-CNTO-amine/PCA) on copper pieces

In this study, nanocomposite coating of encapsulated copper is developed among the branches of carbon nanostructures (graphene oxide graft and carbon nanotube oxide (GO-g-CNTO)) functionalized with poly citric acid and urea on copper electrode by electrodeposition method. Increasing the percentage of Cu@GO-g-CNTO-amine/PCA nanocomposite in the electrolyte affected the surface morphology and improved the granularity of the coated copper particles. The uniform distribution of particles on the surface increased the electrical properties, current density, strength, and other properties because the improvement of the structural factors controls the mechanical behavior of the parts. The structure of the coatings and their performance were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray energy diffraction spectroscopy (EDX), and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results show that by modifying the surface of carbon nanostructures with poly citric acid and urea, in addition to increasing their solubility, the thickness of the copper coating can be controlled. The use of urea in the reaction reduced the corrosion and oxidation of the surface and increased the electrical and mechanical properties of the surface.

Aminated reduced graphene oxide-carbon nanotube composite gas sensors for ammonia recognition

Composites based on carbon nanomaterials exhibit many advantageous properties for gas sensing, such as high and fast response, room-temperature operation, and tailoring sensitivity by energy level engineering. However, only the first attempts to employ such chemosensors for gas-sensing applications have been made. In this work, an on-chip multisensor array of carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNT), aminated reduced graphene oxide (rGO-Am), and CNT/rGO-Am nanocomposite was fabricated using a simple and low-cost spray deposition method. The CNT/rGO-Am sensor demonstrated a fast and high response to NH3 in dry air at low (25 ppm) and high (400 ppm) concentrations of 70 and 115 %, respectively. The response to NH3 in humid air increased and reached 160 % at 400 ppm. The chemosensor exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity toward ammonia with a low detection limit estimated to be below 0.2 ppb. Linear discriminant analysis of the sensor responses to different concentrations of NH3, dry and humid air revealed better discrimination when CNT/rGO-Am composites were used in combination with CNT and rGO-Am sensors in an array. This study demonstrates that composite sensors with junctions between carbon nanomaterials have great potential for practical applications in fast and selective gas detection at room temperature and different humidity.

Preparation of graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and they are used to modify the glassy carbon electrode for sensing Enalapril Maleate

In this study, the graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes fabrication was evaluated using (SEM), (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy and (XRD). The results showed promising accuracy for the graphene oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes voltammetric sensor. The direct voltammetric determination of Enalapril Maleate in pharmaceutical samples, urine, and serum is detailed using a straightforward and extremely sensitive technique. Graphene oxide-multiwall carbon nanotubes are added to glassy carbon electrodes in an efficient manner to activate the GO-MWNT structures, which then electrocatalyzes the reduction of Enalapril Maleate. The results of the cyclic voltammetric (CV) experiment showed that the electrocatalytic activity of GO-MWNTs to reduce Enalapril Maleate was significantly improved, leading to a much higher cathodic peak current for EM. This finding opens the door to the possibility of creating a very sensitive voltammetric sensor to detect EM in biological and pharmaceutical fluid samples. A linear calibration curve in the 2.5–12.5 ppm concentration range, a detection limit of 0.2 ppm, and a relative standard deviation (R.S.D.%) lower than 1.0 % (n = 5) were all indicative of ideal conditions. Lastly, EM is a diffusion-controlled process that proceeds through a two-electron-two-proton change, which provides a mechanism for the reduction of EM.. The GO-MWCNTs/GCE sensor had a good repeatability and excellent reproducibility, R.S.D.% =1.77 and 1.82.

Highly Sensitive Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide in Cancer Tissue Based on 3D Reduced Graphene Oxide-MXene-Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Electrode.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a signaling molecule that has the capacity to control a variety of biological processes in organisms. Cancer cells release more H2O2 during abnormal tumor growth. There has been a considerable amount of interest in utilizing H2O2 as a biomarker for the diagnosis of cancer tissue. In this study, an electrochemical sensor for H2O2 was constructed based on 3D reduced graphene oxide (rGO), MXene (Ti3C2), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite. Three-dimensional (3D) rGO-Ti3C2-MWCNTs sensor showed good linearity for H2O2 in the ranges of 1-60 μM and 60 μM-9.77 mM at a working potential of -0.25 V, with sensitivities of 235.2 µA mM-1 cm-2 and 103.8 µA mM-1 cm-2, respectively, and a detection limit of 0.3 µM (S/N = 3). The sensor exhibited long-term stability, good repeatability, and outstanding immunity to interference. In addition, the modified electrode was employed to detect real-time H2O2 release from cancer cells and cancer tissue ex vivo.

Phosphorus‑carbon based hybrid electrodes for sodium ion batteries

In this study, commercial phosphorus powders were first subjected to mechanical ball-milling at varying times and reinforced with graphene oxide and multiwall carbon nanotubes to improve their electrochemical performances. All these processes were carried out by ball milling method to provide mechanical alloying of phosphorus. Subsequently, the crystallinity of the samples was analyzed by X-ray diffraction method, while the morphology of the samples was examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The main obstacles that inhibit the reversibility and the cyclic stability of red phosphorus are low electronic conductivity and huge volumetric expansion. Reinforcing amorphized phosphorous with multi-walled carbon nanotube and graphene oxide composites has presented similar initial capacity of 2100 mAh g−1. In addition, reversible capacity of multi-walled carbon nanotube and graphene oxide reinforced samples presented 370 mAh g−1 and 507 mAh g−1 after 250 cycles, respectively. Our results have shown that graphene oxide reinforced composites could be an alternative electrode material for sodium ion battery applications.

Effects of Nanoparticles on the Mechanical Properties of the Composites Prepared from Biological and Chemical Gels

Poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAm) and polyacrylamide (PAAm) are widely used in antifouling research because of their non-harmful nature and their high water-absorbing capacity. In addition, hydrogels such as these two, should be investigated for their mechanical properties because their mechanical properties influence the antifouling paint containing them remaining on the surface of the vessels. In this research PAAm, PNIPAm, and kappa carrageenan (κC) doped with graphene oxide (GO) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite gels were examined for their mechanical properties for use in antifouling paints as a potential material. For increasing the mechanical properties of composites, GO and MWCNTs are often used as doping materials. In the research described here, a compressive test was used to determine the elasticity, and the modulus was calculated. The toughness was calculated from the slope of the stress-strain curve. The PAAm, PNIPAm, and κC doped with GO and MWCNT exhibited excellent swelling and deswelling behavior and good mechanical properties as composites. The results showed that the composites’ mechanical characteristics increased with an ideal loading concentration of GO and MWCNTs. This study was inspired by our belief of a shortage of research on antifouling materials that are sensitive to the environment. We wanted to create materials that were both effective against fouling and environmentally safe by integrating the beneficial characteristics of hydrogels with potential materials inside antifouling paint. This study, we suggest, is an important step toward the development of antifouling materials with high mechanical performance that are also environmentally friendly.

Computational analysis of ternary cation perovskite based solar cells employing transition metal chalcogenide, graphene derivatives, and SWCNT as hole transport layers

In this study, a numerical modelling on device configurations composed of Cs3Bi2I9 as the absorber material is performed by choosing diverse hole transport layers (HTLs) such as Cu2Te, graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT). All device configurations exhibit excellent PCE when the design parameters of perovskite, charge transport materials are optimized. The PCE of the device configurations with Cu2Te, GO, rGO and SWCNT as HTL is estimated as 10.81%, 10.87%, 9.99% and 11% respectively on optimizing design parameters of layers of the device. The perovskite solar cell (PSC) design is further optimized for suitable back metal contact and the device with rGO as the HTL shows an enhancement in PCE from 9.99% to 11.62% when Au is replaced by Se with a work function of 5.9 eV. Among the device configurations with distinct HTLs analysed, the FTO/ZnO/Cs3Bi2I9/rGO/Se configuration achieves the maximum PCE of 11.62%, indicating that rGO is the most suitable HTL material among the chosen ones. All modelled devices exhibit a gradual decline in PCE with temperature, except the PSC with SWCNT as the HTL, which shows a sudden performance degradation with temperature.
