Synthesis and characterization of PMMA-grafted-ZrO2 hybrid nanoparticles

In this study, we reported a facile synthesis and the characterization of PMMA-grafted ZrO2 hybrid nanoparticles from original ZrO2 (oZrO2) nanoparticles. The synthesis process included of three steps: (i) modification of nano ZrO2 with a vinyl silane agent, (ii) graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers and modified ZrO2 (mZrO2) nanoparticles, and (iii) extraction of homo PMMA to obtain the final product of PMMA-g-ZrO2 (gZrO2) nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of mZrO2, oZrO2, and gZrO2 indicated that the silane coupling agent was grafted onto oZrO2 nanoparticles. FTIR spectra of gZrO2 indicated PMMA had been successfully grafted onto the surface of ZrO2 nanoparticles. Using TGA method, the PMMA grafting content onto ZrO2 nanoparticles was evaluated as 9.03 wt.%. The electron microscopy (SEM) images of gZrO2, mZrO2, and oZrO2 indicated that their primary particle size and shape were almost unchanged after modification processes, their particle size was in the range from 50 nm to 140 nm. XRD analysis showed the monoclinic crystalline structure of three kinds of ZrO2 nanoparticles (nanocrystals). The organic gZrO2 nanoparticles can be a better candidate as an opacifier additive for polymer nanocomposites or acrylic bone cement.

A comparative study on graft copolymerization of MMA onto wood fiber under microwave and conventional heating

Wood polymer composites (WPC) are gaining popularity and widespread usage due to an increased awareness of human population towards the importance of environmental effects and green eco-friendly materials. Mechanical properties of WPC could be improved through graft copolymerization of monomer onto wood fiber to improve interfacial bonding. In this study, a comparison of free radical graft copolymerization using microwave-assisted and conventional heating method was performed. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer is used in graft copolymerization of Meranti wood using a free radical initiator system consisting of ferrous sulfate and hydrogen peroxide. Grafting reaction time was varied while other graft parameters were kept constant including monomer concentration, initiator molar ratio, reaction temperature and solvent volume. Maximum graft yield of 11.75% and 10.17% were obtained for water bath heated and microwave-assisted method respectively. The presence of grafted monomer was proven by FTIR spectra analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis performed on grafted wood fibers showed improved thermal resistance compared to ungrafted wood fiber.

Photocatalytic Synthesis of Materials for Regenerative Medicine Using Complex Oxides with β-pyrochlore Structure.

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto cod collagen was carried out under visible light irradiation (λ = 400-700 nm) at 20-25 °C using the RbTe1.5W0.5O6, CsTeMoO6, and RbNbTeO6 complex oxides with β-pyrochlore structure as photocatalysts. The as-prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. It was also found that RbNbTeO6 with β-pyrochlore structure was not able to photocatalyze the reaction. Enzymatic hydrolysis of the obtained graft copolymers proceeds with the formation of peptides with a molecular weight (MW) of about 20 and 10 kDa. In contrast to collagen, which decomposes predominantly to peptides with MW of about 10 kDa, the ratio of fractions with MW of about 10 kDa and 20 kDa differs much less, their changes are symbatic, and the content of polymers with MW of more than 20 kDa is about 70% after 1 h in the case of graft copolymers. The data obtained indicate that synthetic fragments grafted to the collagen macromolecule do not prevent the hydrolysis of the peptide bonds but change the rate of polymer degradation. This is important for creating network matrix scaffolds based on graft copolymers by cross-linking peptides, which are products of enzymatic hydrolysis.

Graft Copolymerization of Methyl Methacrylate and Vinyltriethoxysilane onto Natural Rubber

Preparation and characterization of natural rubber grafted with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and vinytriethoxysilane (VTES) were performed in the present work. Graft copolymerization of methyl methacryate was carried out in latex stage, and VTES was added during the graft copolymerization of MMA. FTIR and NMR spectroscopy were used to investigate the structure of graft copolymer and determination of conversion and grafting efficiency of MMA. It confirmed that the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and silica particles (PVTES) were successfully formed in NR-graft-PMMA-PVTES graft copolymer. Conversions of MMA were about 90-100%; however, MMA grafting efficiency decreased as the MMA concentrations increased. Tensile property of NR-graft-PMMA-PVTES was found to improve compared with that of pure NR.

Preparation of a Composite Material by Graft Copolymerization of Methylmethacrylate and Fish Gelatin Using a Photocatalyst - Complex Oxide RbTe<sub>1.5</sub>W<sub>0.5</sub>O<sub>6</sub>

A new composite material based on fish gelatin (FG) was obtained by graft copolymerization of methylmethacrylate (MMA) onto fish gelatin. The process was initiated by radicals formed by the RbTe1.5W0.5O6 photocatalyst under visible light (λ=400-700 nm) irradiation at room temperature. The characteristics of the new polymer material were obtained by the methods of elemental and physico-chemical analyses.

Enhancement in bonding strength and ageing resistance of polychloroprene solvent-base adhesives through graft copolymerization

In this research, graft copolymerization of Methyl methacrylate (MMA; hereafter) on to Polychloroprene rubber (CR; hereafter) has been processed in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as an initiator. Grafting reaction has been carried out in a mechanical mixer, and factors such as time, temperature, monomer, and initiator’s concentration were investigated and optimized. FTIR confirmed the grafting reaction occurred in the CR polymer as evident from a peak of a carbonyl group. The adhesive strength of grafted adhesive was analyzed by standard peel testing on canvas–canvas and leather–leather substrates. The effect of variation in environmental conditions such as storage time, exposure to elevated temperature, and immersion of adhesively joined substrates in the water on the peel strength of adhesive bonding was also studied. The results were compared with the strength of commercially available adhesives in local market. The solid content of grafted adhesive (55%) showed their greater applicability and high strength characteristics. The maximum peel strength achieved was 79 N/mm for canvas–canvas while 73 N/mm for leather–leather substrates. The percentage fall in peel strength after exposure to different environmental conditions was shallow as compared to commercially available adhesives. ‘GA-13’ the grafted adhesive has a high potential for the Leather-base industry and other applications.

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate on Meizotropis Pellita fibres and their applications in oil absorbency

This research paper deals with the graft copolymerisation of methyl methacrylate (MMA) on the backbone of Meizotropis Pellita fibres (MPF), which was successfully carried out under aqueous medium using Fenton's reagent [ferrous ammonium sulphate (FAS) (8.0 × 10–3 M) and H2O2 (0.12 M)] as a redox initiator to impart hydrophobic properties. Grafting was optimized under different conditions concerning time, temperature, monomer ratio, material to liquor ratio and initiator concentration. Maximum graft yield percentage obtained was 120%. The grafted MPF was characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The FTIR spectroscopic data showed a peak at 1728 cm−1 of C=O (ester), and another peak at 1650 cm−1 of adsorbed water, which was absent in the grafted fibre. The grafted fibre showed excellent thermal stability with an overall weight loss of 56.5% with a char residue of 33.5%. In addition, X-ray diffraction of MMA-grafted MPF showed 21% crystallinity and crystallinity index of 0.16. These raw and grafted fibres were also subjected to physico-chemical properties like moisture absorbance, swelling behaviour and chemical resistance, which they showed that MMA-grafted MPF exhibited hydrophobic properties. Therefore, due to this hydrophobic behaviour, the oil absorbency of MMA-grafted MPF was studied towards four emulsions: crude oil–saline, engine oil–saline, diesel oil–saline and used engine oil–saline. An MMA-grafted MPF by 120% absorbed 23.60 g of crude oil in the first cycle, 17. 41 g in the second cycle and 14.21 g in the third cycle, whereas 13.14 g of diesel oil was absorbed in the first cycle, 8.24 g in the second cycle and 5.25 g in the third cycle. Similarly, 20.14 g of engine oil was absorbed in the first cycle, 10.00 g in the second cycle and 7.51 g in the third cycle. Lastly, 19.80 g of the engine oil was absorbed in the first cycle, 12.25 g in the second cycle and 7.98 g in the third cycle. These results showed that the oil removal efficiency of the grafted MPF was intact by oil fraction type and they can be applied for all kinds of oil fraction spillage.

Response surface optimized free radical grafting of methyl methacrylate on de-lignified rice straw for evaluating its application potential as flame retardant roofing material

The main objective of this investigation is to convert chemically bi-step pre-treated rice straw encompassing delignification and inorganic materials loading into a low cost roofing material by graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) via free radical mechanism. Central composite design (CCD) process utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) approach was adopted for the optimization of time duration, concentration of methyl methacrylate and reaction temperature (three-independent factors) at five levels. Optimization of the procedure was done by an estimated regression model (quadratic) in combination with an analysis of variance (ANOVA) depicting how the independent test variables have a comparative impact. Contour plots (2D) as well as response surface (3D) plots helped in investigating the cumulative interactions between the variables critical to optimization as well as in deciphering under which conditions optimal grafting can occur. Percentage of grafting (%G) was the response variable, which was a dependent output variable. A quadratic response surface model, according to estimated values could then be developed to relate every independent variable to percentage of grafting (%G). Optimal conditions projected by RSM were 3.99 cc amount of monomer, 119.85 min duration of time and 62.89 °C grafting temperature. At this combination, the highest percentage of grafting of 50.24% was predicted, with desirability = 1.00, the observed result indicates perfect reproducibility of the experiment. This theoretical value was compared with experimental result and the observed result is 50.68% which is very close to the software predicted value. The response surface quadratic model adequacy was satisfactory with the coefficient of regression of 0.9815. According to the Design-Expert software this predicted value of regression coefficient confirmed the accuracy of model fitness with the observed experimental data.

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate on Abelmoschus manihot fibres and their application in oil absorbency

This paper deals with the graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) on the backbone of Abelmoschus manihot fibres (AMF) successfully carried out under aqueous medium using Fenton's reagent [(ferrous ammonium sulphate (FAS) (8.0 × 10–3 M) and H2O2 (0.12 M)] as a redox initiator and N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide as a crosslinker to impart hydrophobic properties. Grafting was optimized under different conditions concerning time, temperature, monomer ratio, material to liquor ratio, initiator concentration. Maximum graft add-on% obtained was 130% at a temperature of 75 °C, 3:1 monomer to fibre ratio, time of 150 min, 1:75 fibre to liquor ratio and 20:20 (FAS: H2O2) initiator concentration. The grafted AMF fibres were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. FT-IR spectroscopic data showed a peak at 1726 cm−1 of C=O (ester), and another peak at 1650 cm−1 of adsorbed water was absent in the grafted fibre. The grafted fibre showed excellent thermal stability with an overall weight loss of 51.8% and char residue of 48.2% as well as X-ray diffraction of MMA grafted AMF showed 23% crystallinity and crystallinity index of 0.19. These raw and grafted fibres also subjected to physico-chemical properties like moisture absorbance, swelling behaviour and chemical resistance studies showed that MMA grafted AMF exhibited hydrophobic properties. Therefore, due to this hydrophobic behaviour, the oil absorbency of MMA grafted AMF was studied towards four emulsions: crude oil saline, engine oil saline, diesel oil saline and used engine oil saline. In total, 130% grafted AMF fibre absorbed 30.07 g of crude oil, 12.20 g of diesel oil, 16.00 g of engine oil and 17.32 g of used engine oil. These results showed that the oil removal efficiency of the grafted AMF was intact by oil fraction type and can be applied for all kinds of oil fraction spillage.

Improvement of Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Vietnam Deproteinized Natural Rubber via Graft Copolymerization with Methyl Methacrylate

In this study, we investigated the improvement of the thermal and mechanical properties of Vietnam deproteinized natural rubber (DPNR) via graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The graft copolymerization was achieved successfully in latex stage using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHPO) and tetra-ethylenepentamine (TEPA) as radical initiators at 30°C. By grafting with various MMA feeds and initiator concentration of 6.6×10−5 mol/g-rubber, the highest grafting efficiency and conversion were achieved at MMA of 15 wt.% per kg of rubber, 68% and 90%, respectively. The structure of grafted copolymers was characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR-ATR, and GPC, and thermal properties were investigated through DSC and TGA measurements. These showed that graft copolymers were more stable and rigid than DPNR. Storage modulus (G′) of graft copolymer was found to double that of DPNR, which contributed to the formation of graft copolymer. After sulfur vulcanization, the mechanical properties of DPNR-graft-PMMA, such as tensile strength, tear strength, and hardness, were improved significantly. Curing behaviors of the graft copolymers were found to be remarkably better than virgin DPNR.

Multi-layer dressing made of laminated electrospun nanowebs and cellulose-based adhesive for comprehensive wound care

In this work, multi-layer wound dressing was made of laminated layers of electrospun fibers supported by adhesive sheet. Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2-Ethyl-1-hexyl acrylate (EHA) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was conducted to obtain an adhesive sheet with 1.52 (N/cm2) loop tack, 1.7 (N/cm) peel strength and 25 s shear strength. Diclofenac sodium, anti-inflammatory drug, was loaded to the adhesive sheet with encapsulation efficiency 73%.The contact layer to wound was made of synthesized anti-bleeding agents, chitosan iodoacetamide (CI) loaded into electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers. It was fabricated from fiber diameter 300 nm by electrospinning of 5% wt/v of CI (D.S. 18.7%) mixed with 10% wt/v PVA, at 20 kV and 17 cm airgap. The second, pain-relief layer was fabricated by encapsulating up to 50% wt/wt of capsaicin into gelatin nanofibers (197 nm) crosslinked by glyoxal. The third, antimicrobial layer was fabricated from PVA electrospun fibers loaded with 2% wt/wt gentamicin. Biocompatibility test showed insignificant adverse effects of the fabricated layers on fibroblast cells. Animal test on rat showed accelerated wound healing from 21 to 7 days for the multi-layer dressing. Histopathological findings corroborated the intactness of the epidermis layer of the treated samples.

Impact of γ-rays on constructional, optical and thermal behavior of alkaline and non alkaline low density polyethylene

ABSTRACT In this study, we investigated the graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto low-density polyethylene (LDPE) in the presence of aniline as an inhibitor by gamma radiation. An alkaline treatment was carried out for the prepared graft copolymer. The structural properties of the prepared samples were examined via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD peaks were slightly shifted, indicating an interaction between MMA and the polyethylene matrix. The morphology of the samples confirmed the homogenous grafted phase scattered onto the LDPE surface. Analysis of the absorption spectra indicated an allowed indirect transition mechanism. The Urbach energy (EU) results showed that the value of the EU for grafted LDPE was found to be higher than that of pure LDPE—up to 15 kGy irradiation dose, although this value decreases upon grafting. However, the value of the EU for alkaline-treated grafted films decreases systematically by increasing the degree of grafting. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the sample indicated that the thermal stability of LDPE samples is significantly changed by grafting MMA onto it. Horowitz and Metzger's models were utilized to measure the activation energy of the thermal decomposition of all samples.

Ammonium persulphate induced synthesis of polymethyl methacrylate grafted sodium alginate composite films with high strength for food packaging

The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto alginate was carried out in aqueous media by initiators of ammonium persulphate under a nitrogen gas atmosphere. Then, the grafting of PMMA chains onto the alginate backbone was confirmed through the study of Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. At last, a thin and transparent polymethyl methacrylate grafted alginate film with high strength was obtained by the casting method. The effect of MMA/SA ratio or percentage of graft (G%) on mechanical properties, thermal stability (thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermogravimetry analyses), color, opacity and water resistance of composite films were characterized. Results showed the homogeneous transparent films could be obtained while G% was lower than 8.64%. After being grafted by PMMA, the tensile strength of the films was distinctly improved by 205.3%, as well the elongation at break (E%) by 41.7% while the MMA/SA (g/g) is 0.3. On the other hand, water resistance, thermal stability and crystallinity of the films were improved, however, the transparency was slightly decreased.

Natural rubber grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) as compatibilizer in 50/50 natural rubber/nitrile rubber blend

The effects of graft copolymers applied as compatibilizers for natural rubber/nitrile rubber (NR/NBR) blends at 50/50 (w/w) on cure characteristics, mechanical properties, thermal properties, oil resistance, and morphology were investigated. The graft copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto NR initiated by benzoyl peroxide (NR- g-PMMA<BPO>) and by potassium persulfate (NR- g-PMMA<PPS>) under emulsion polymerization were synthesized and used to compatibilize the blends. The structures of the copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. NR was blended with NBR via a two-roll mill at 70°C under the compatibilizer loading ranging from 0 to 10 parts per hundred of rubber (phr). The results showed that the tensile property and tear strength of the blends increased with the increasing amount of NR- g-PMMA<BPO> as a compatibilizer. Thermal aging determined in terms of tensile properties exhibited the smaller difference between before and after aging in an oven with the increasing compatibilizer loading. The morphology of the compatibilized NR/NBR vulcanizates was investigated by scanning electron microscopy of the tensile fracture surfaces, which exhibited the improvement of interfacial adhesion between the two rubber phases. The thermal properties of compatibilized NR/NBR vulcanizates were reported in terms of a glass transition temperature under differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis. The incorporation of an appropriate amount of the compatibilizer into the blends apparently improved the oil resistance of NR. Among them, the blend filled with 7.5 phr of NR- g-PMMA<BPO> showed the lowest volume change in IRM 903 oil.

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate from brominated poly(isobutylene‐co‐isoprene) via atom transfer radical polymerization

ABSTRACTCommercial brominated poly(isobutylene‐co‐isoprene) (BIIR) rubber has been directly used for the initiation of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) by utilizing the allylic bromine atoms on the macromolecular chains of BIIR. The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) from the backbone of BIIR which was used as a macroinitiator was carried out in xylene at 85 °C with CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as a catalytic complex. The polymerization conditions were optimized by adjusting the catalyst and monomer concentration to reach a higher monomer conversion and meanwhile suppress macroscopic gelation during the polymerization process. This copolymerization followed a first‐order kinetic behavior with respect to the monomer concentration, and the number‐average molecular weight of the grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) increased with reaction time. The resultant BIIR‐graft‐PMMA copolymers showed phase separation morphology as characterized by atomic force microscopy, and the presence of PMMA phase increased the polarity of the BIIR copolymers. This study demonstrated the feasibility of using commercial BIIR polymer directly as a macromolecular initiator for ATRP reactions, which opens more possibilities for BIIR modifications for wider applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Improvement in Physical Properties of MMA Grafted Coir Fibres

This work deals with the surface modification of Coir fibre through graft copolymerization process. Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto coir fibre was carried out with Potassium per sulphate (PPS) as an initiator under the catalytic influence of Ferrous ammonium sulphate (FAS) in aqueous medium. Control and grafted coir fibres were subjected to evaluation of properties like tensile strength, flexural rigidity, density, water absorbance and light fastness studies. It was observed that MMA grafted coir fibre shows more resistance towards water and light fastness when compared with that of control coir fibre. Further morphological, structural changes and thermal stability of control and grafted coir fibre have also been studied by SEM and TGA techniques. For statistical significance the Analysis of variance (ANOVA) were studied and the P values obtained were less than 0.05 which revealed that the value was highly significant for the improvement of physical properties on coir fibre by graft Co- polymerization.

Versatile one-pot synthesis of grafted-hydrogenated natural rubber

Natural rubber, one of the widely used renewable resources, is susceptible to degradation upon exposure to sunlight, oxygen, heat and ozone due to the presence of double bonds in cis-polyisoprene. This work describes a versatile means to improve the stability of natural rubber by saturating the double bonds through grafting and hydrogenation reactions as a one-pot method. Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto natural rubber latex was carried out using emulsion polymerization in the presence of cumene hydroperoxide/tetra-ethylene pentamine mixture as initiator whereas hydrogenation of the natural rubber was performed using the diimide reduction method. The effects of initiator concentration, monomer concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time on reaction efficiency were investigated. In addition, the thermal, mechanical, ozone ageing, and solvent resistance properties of modified natural rubbers were characterized and found to be superior to the unmodified natural rubber. The decomposition temperature of the grafted-hydrogenated natural rubber is almost 30 °C better than that of the unmodified rubber. The mechanical strength was also improved. In order to test the versatility of this one-pot technique, styrene was also used as a monomer to graft onto the natural rubber. These results show that the one-pot method developed in this work is a simple, versatile means for improving the chemical and physical properties of the natural rubber. This work is also a proof-of-concept for other combinations of reactions or other polymers.

Design and comparative in-vitro and in-vivo evaluation of starch-acrylate graft copolymer based salbutamol sulphate sustained release tablets

The present work deals with the development of controlled release tablets of salbutamol sulphate (SS) using graft copolymers of methyl methacrylate (St-g-PMMA and Ast-g-PMMA) on starch and acetylated starch. Formulations were evaluated for physical characteristics like hardness, friability, drug release, drug content and weight variations, which fulfilled all the official requirements of tablet dosage form. The release rates from formulated matrix tablets were studied at SGF (pH 1.2) followed by SIF (pH 6.8). Drug release from the graft copolymer based tablets was found to be sustained upto the 14 h with >75% drug release. The in-vitro release study showed that the graft copolymer based matrix formulations (F3 & F4) exhibited highest correlation value (r2) for higuchi kinetic model and Korsmeyer's model with n values between 0.61 and 0.67 proved that release mechanisms were governed by both diffusion and erosion mechanism. There was no significant difference in the pharmacokinetic parameters (tmax, Cmax, AUC, Ke, and t1/2) of the graft copolymers matrices and HPMC K100M matrix tablets, indicating their comparable sustained release effect. The potential of graft copolymers to sustain the drug release is well supported by in-vivo pharmacokinetic studies and their adequate physicochemical properties make them promising excipients for controlled drug delivery system.

Photo-induced synthesis and characterization of poly(methyl methacrylate) grafted sodium salt of partially carboxymethylated guar gum

Photo-induced graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto sodium salt of partially carboxymethylated guar gum (Na-PCMGG, $$\overline {DS} = 0.291$$ ) was carried out in an aqueous medium using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as photoinitiator to synthesize a novel graft copolymer, Na-PCMGG-g-PMMA, which may find its potential application as a metal adsorbent. The influences of synthesis variables such as concentrations of photoinitiator (CAN), nitric acid and monomer (MMA) as well as reaction time, temperature and amount of substrate on the grafting yields were studied and the reaction conditions for optimum photo-grafting were evaluated. At optimum concentration, the maximum values of the grafting yields achieved were G = 271.61% and GE = 63.89%. The experimental results were found to be in very good agreement with the proposed kinetic scheme. The photo-graft copolymerization of MMA onto Na-PCMGG $$(\overline {DS} = 0.291)$$ was also carried out in the presence and absence of ultraviolet radiation for studying the efficiency of the photoinitiator. The influence of carboxymethyl groups introduced onto the guar gum molecules with regard to its behavior towards ultra-violet radiation induced grafting with MMA was also investigated. Photo-grafting process was confirmed and the products were characterized with the help of the spectroscopic (1H-NMR and FTIR) and SEM techniques.
