Rehabilitation of a Severe Anterior Ridge Defect with a Fixed-Removable Prosthesis

Significant anterior ridge abnormalities might be difficult to restore with prosthesis. To attain good speech and aesthetics necessitate not only the restoration of the missing teeth but also the closure of the problematic region. One recommended treatment option for individuals with substantial ridge abnormalities is the Andrews bridge which is a fixed-removable prosthesis. The prosthesis correctly replaces the missing teeth and corrects the ridge defect area and restore speech and appearance. A 35-year-old female patient reported with the principal complaint of spacing in her lower front teeth and difficulty in phonetics and poor appearance. On clinical examination spacing was seen in the maxillary central incisors along with pro-clination and 31,32,33,41,42,43 teeth were missing and the edentulous defect area was coming under Seibert's Class III category. Rehabilitation of such defect with an Andrews bridge described in this case report, which used natural teeth as abutments for its permanent component and a detachable superstructure.

Cytotoxicity and Microbiological Properties of Ceramic CAD/CAM Materials Subjected to Surface Treatment with Nanometric Copper Layer

The aim of this study is to present the characteristics and a comparison of four different commercial materials dedicated to the CAD/CAM technique in dentistry, all of which can be classified as ceramic materials. Its purpose is also to evaluate the impact of surface treatment on the cytotoxicity and microbiological properties of the materials. The CAD/CAM technique has a perpetually growing role in modern reconstructive dentistry. It requires a material’s possession of peculiar characteristics, such as mechanical resistance, durability, functionality (similar to natural tissues), good aesthetics and biocompatibility. To critically evaluate a biomaterial, both manufacturer claims and in vitro tests should be considered. Further steps of evaluation may include animal tests and clinical trials. There are certain attributes of biomaterials that may be modified by surface treatment that can be crucial to the clinical success of the material. The evaluated materials were Vita Suprinity (VITA-Zahnfabrik, Germany), Vita Mark II (VITA-Zahnfabrik, Germany), Celtra Duo (Dentsply Sirona, USA) and Empress Cad (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein). They are available in the form of prefabricated blocks of various diameters and are popular among operators performing clinical procedures using CAD/CAM. Standardized blocks of each material were prepared. Half of them had their surface polished. Further, half of all the samples were covered by a nano-copper layer. The samples were evaluated for cytotoxicity, presented on a 0–4 scale, adhesion susceptibility and potential of forming a biofilm on their surface. Physicochemical properties such as the water contact angle (WCA) were evaluated for the tested materials. The influence of copper coating on cytotoxicity cannot be unequivocally stated or denied. Surface polishing did not affect the materials’ cytotoxicity, but it increased the WCA of all materials and, therefore, their hydrophobicity. Different degrees of adhesion ability and biofilm formation were dependent on the species of microorganisms and properties of the dental materials.

Enhancing 3D-printed denture base resins: A review of material innovations.

The limited physical and mechanical properties of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the current gold standard, necessitates exploring improved denture base materials. While three-dimensional (3D) printing offers accuracy, efficiency, and patient comfort advantages, achieving superior mechanics in 3D-printed denture resins remains challenging despite good biocompatibility and esthetics. This review investigates the potential of innovative materials to address the limitations of 3D-printed denture base materials. Thus, this article is organized to provide a comprehensive overview of recent efforts to enhance 3D-printed denture base materials, highlighting advancements. It critically examines the impact of incorporating various nanoparticles (zirconia, titania, etc.) on these materials' physical and mechanical properties. Additionally, it delves into recent strategies for nanofiller surface treatment and biocompatibility evaluation and explores potential future directions for polymeric composites in denture applications. The review finds that adding nanoparticles significantly improves performance compared to unmodified resins, and properties can be extensively enhanced through specific modifications, particularly silanized nanoparticles. Optimizing 3D-printed denture acrylics requires a multifaceted approach, with future research prioritizing novel nanomaterials and surface modification techniques for a novel generation of superior performance, esthetically pleasing, and long-lasting dentures.

Attitudes of Oral Surgeons and Periodontists towards Immediate Dental Implant Placement.

This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the factors that determine the choice of oral surgeons and periodontists to perform immediate dental implant placement. An anonymous survey was carried out from January 6, 2024 to February 29, 2024. The questionnaire was distributed online to Lithuanian specialists - oral surgeons and periodontists, who perform implantation procedures. A total of 186 professionals were included in this survey. Chi-square test, its degrees of freedom was used for the analysis of variables. The main reason for refusing immediate implant placement is a periapical lesion greater than 5 mm, reported by 91.7% of oral surgeons and 96.9% of periodontists. Good aesthetics and preservation of anatomical structures are identified as an advantage by 99.2% of oral surgeons and 92.3% of periodontists. In the aesthetic zone, for periodontists, the main criterion for choosing a method is the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the soft tissue of the extraction socket 96.9%, and for oral surgeons - the morphology of the bone walls of the socket 87.6%. Only 43.1% of periodontists and 33.9% of oral surgeons are familiar with and use extraction socket morphology assessment classifications for immediate dental implant placement. Taking into account study's results, it is recommended to adjust the teaching programs at Universities and to increase the knowledge of specialists performing dental implantation procedures, by carrying out continuous educational programs.

This study examined the theory of design psychology affecting users' thinking actions, focusing on the human cognitive system and information processing process. Based on related literature studies such as design, psychology, and brain science, the study was conducted focusing on case analysis of design psychology principles. As a result of the study, first, it was confirmed that the tendency of thinking appeared differently depending on the height of the ceiling, and creativity was promoted in spaces with high ceilings and specific thinking was promoted in spaces with low ceilings. Second, apart from usability, it was found that a design with good aesthetics reinforces users' positive attitudes and explores problem-solving methods with a generous attitude even in the event of a problem. Third, by first presenting positive expressions or experiences before experiencing a situation, it was found to have a positive effect on the user's perception, judgment, behavior, and memory. Fourth, it has been shown that visual stimuli activate physical waves and central nerves, causing psychological changes in human behavior and thoughts. Fifth, design consistency has been shown to affect user behavior and quick decision-making, but family similarity only needs to be interrelated, even if it is not in a fixed form. The significance of this study is to understand that the preference or bias that users judge design is related to design psychology. As a limitation, it failed to deal with the design psychological principles that negatively affect users' thinking formation. Furthermore, it is proposed to be conducted by supplemented and supplemented.

The Scar-Hidden Surgery on Gynecomastia: Experiences from a Single-Institutional Large Case Series.

To summarize the experiences on the mastoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy for gynecomastia by "nine-step method" based on the "5S" goal and standardize this operation. Between January 1, 2002, and October 31, 2021, a total of 2035 breasts of 1082 male patients with gynecomastia, of which 129 patients with one side, were underwent mastoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy. The follow-up endpoint was 3months after surgery. All patients were successfully completed the operation, and none of them was transferred to open operation. The operation time for unilateral breast was 12-28min, and the average time was 17.7 ± 6.2min. The amount of bleeding during unilateral operation was very small, about 5-10ml. The total drainage volume was 5-50ml after the operation, and the drainage tube was removed in 3-5days. The epidermal necrosis occurred in 0.3% nipple. 0.2% chest wall had a little ecchymosis in the supero-medial region of the breast. All patients had the normal feeling of nipples and areola, the smoothing and symmetrical chest wall, and the natural contour. There was no recurrence during the follow-up period. The mastoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy for gynecomastia by "nine-step method" based on the "5S" goal has a short operation time, few surgical complications and good esthetics. It achieves the "5S" goals on the complete removal of glandular tissue (sweeping), small and scar-hidden incision are small (scarless), good symmetry of bilateral chest wall (symmetry), normal chest shape (shape), and smoothing chest wall (smoothing). The Effect of Kluwak Extract on Discoloration Nanohybrid Composite Resin

Background: Composite resin is the most commonly used restorative material in dentistry because it has good esthetics. However, consuming colored foods and drinks over a long period of time can cause discoloration. Kluwak, an ingredient often used in Indonesian cooking, contains tannins, which can change the color of the nanohybrid composite resin if consumed over a long period of time. Purpose: To determine and explain the effect of kluwak solution (pangium edule r) on the color change of nanohybrid composite resin. Methods and materials: The research was conducted experimental laboratory pre and post test. The number of samples was 30 nanohybrid composite resins with a diameter of 10 mm and a height or thickness of 2 mm, divided into 3 treatment groups, each group consisting of 10 samples with immersion for 1 day, 3 days, and 5 days in kluwak solution. Results: One way ANOVA test results (p0.05) showed the effect of kluwak solution on hue color changes in nanohybrid composite resins. Conclusion: There is an effect of immersion in kluwak solution (pangium edule r) on nanohybrid composite resin.

Is Polyetheretherketone an Effective Alloplastic Material in Comparison to Titanium in Calvarial Reconstruction.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and titanium (Ti) cranioplasty implants ideal outcomes are good esthetics, long-term stability, and protection of the fragile brain tissue. However, it is unclear whether PEEK implants can offer an equal alternative to Ti implants. This work aimed to critically review papers and case series published on both Ti and PEEK Cranioplasty regarding complications, clinical outcomes, ease of use, esthetics, manufacture and availability, cost and time-saving factors, postoperative quality of life (QOL), as well as their suitability for the fronto-orbito region reconstruction. PubMed database was sourced for published literature in the period 2007 to the end of 2023; a further manual search for articles was carried out on the reference lists of each paper. A total of 48980 papers were found during the initial search, but only 33 articles met the inclusion criteria. A total of 6023 cranial implants, with 3879 being Ti and 1205 PEEK. Titanium was the material of choice in over 64.4% of cases; however, Ti has been in application for many years compared to PEEK. Out of the 33 papers, there was 27 retrospective cohort/analysis/case series and reviews: 1 meta-analysis, 2 systematic reviews and 3 randomized control trials. Four articles commented on the QOL, 15 on esthetics, 7 discussed cost and time-saving without measurable variables, and 7 articles looked explicitly at the complex fronto-orbito region, of which 49% were primary 1-stage surgical reconstructions, 54% were reconstructed with PEEK and 7% Ti (CAD/CAM). There is no absolute consensus for the preference of either material, however, in the fronto-orbito region, PEEK is the material of choice for ease of use, esthetics, and time-saving. However, there are no long-term studies on PEEK cranioplasty, and fewer in comparison with Ti implants. Further research is required in this field. No reliable or measurable data was found to determine the QOL, esthetics, cost, or time-saving elements.

Effect of Silanized Zirconium Oxide (ZrO<sub>2</sub>) Filler on Hardness of Acrylic-Based Denture Teeth

PMMA is used in dentistry as the main matrix for denture manufacture. Dentures are a substitute for natural human teeth which must have mechanical properties and are biocompatible to withstand mastication in the oral cavity. However, PMMA has poor mechanical properties, so it is necessary to add filler to the PMMA matrix. In this study zirconium oxide (ZrO2) was used as a filler because it has good mechanical properties and aesthetics. The aim of this study was to study the effect of adding ZrO2 filler on the hardness and compatibility of denture composites at concentrations ( 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%). The bulk composite polymerization method used in the manufacture of dental composites is by mixing powdered materials in the form of PMMA, BPO as an initiator, and ZrO2 filler which has been silanized with liquid materials in the form of MMA monomer and cross-linking agent Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate (EGDMA). Mixing powder liquid in this method uses hand mixing in a stainless steel container until it reaches the dough phase and is packed into a mold according to ASTM for Vickers hardness tests. Heat cured polymerization technique was used for the curing process in a water bath at 74°C for 90 minutes and continued at 100°C for 30 minutes. The results obtained in this study, the addition of ZrO2 filler to a concentration of 5% showed an increase in the hardness value up to 37.6 VHN. A novel surgical method for treating fractures of the middle third of the clavicle.

The clavicle is recognized as the bone most vulnerable to fractures. Moreover, approximately 80% of fractures occur in the middle third of the clavicle. Conservative treatment is associated with a higher rate of nonunion, while surgical treatment of fracture via internal fixation may have a variety of postoperative complications. Therefore, to improve patient satisfaction and reduce the complications related to internal fixation techniques, we modified the surgical approach to external fixation. The purpose of this study was to assess the modified intervention's prospects for clinical application. A total of 36patients with middle clavicle fractures were treated with screw-rod external fixation between April 2015 and October 2019. We observed the operative time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, and fracture healing time. The patients were followed up regularly, and the clinical efficacy of the modified intervention was evaluated. Finally, the patients' shoulder function was assessed based on the disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH) score. For the screw-rod external fixation, the mean operative time was found to be 48.6 ± 6.8min, the intraoperative blood loss was 30.6 ± 17.2mL, the length of hospital stay was 4.5 ± 1.5days, and the fracture healing time was 2.8 ± 0.4months. Eventually, all the patients healed well, with the combined "excellent" and "good" rate of shoulder function being assessed to be as high as 94.44%. Furthermore, the DASH scores were all less than 10, with the average score being 4.65± 3.34. The screw-rod external fixation technique offers the advantages of convenience, reliability, and good aesthetics, suggesting that it could be used as an alternative treatment method for fractures of the middle third of the clavicle.

Shelf life effects on the bond strength and microhardness of self-adhesive resin cements.

Among the main advantages of self-adhesive resin cements comprise good aesthetics, strong restoration-tooth bond and biocompatibility. However, some disadvantages, such as high viscosity level, color limitation and short shelf life should be mentioned. Thus, the aim of the current study was to assess bond strength between fiberglass post and root dentin in teeth subjected to self-adhesive resin cements with expired shelf life and hardness. Sixty (60) single-rooted human teeth were sectioned and divided into 2 groups of different cements: U200 3M and MaxCem Elite Kerr. Each group was divided into 3 subgroups, based on self-adhesive resin cements' shelf life, namely: Within the use-time recommended by the manufacturer or no expiration date; 6 months after opening the aluminum blister; 12 months after opening the aluminum blister. Bond strength was measured through push-out test conducted in universal testing machine; fracture pattern was analyzed, and microhardness was investigated through Knoop test, based on hardness readings. Data were subjected to Shapiro-Wilk normality test; nonparametric test was applied to hardness data, whereas parametric test was applied to bond strength data. Hardness data were subjected to Kruskal-Wallis test, whereas bond strength data were subjected to analysis of variance, which was followed by Tukey test; both tests were conducted at 5% significance level (α = 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in knoop hardness values recorded for the material / time / root thirds combination (p=0.483). There was no statistically significant difference in bond strength values recorded for the Material / Time / Thirds combination (p=0.237). It was possible concluding that shelf life did not influence material's hardness and bond strength. Key words:Dental cements, Resin Cements, Shelf Life of Products.

Analysis of spatial characteristics and influencing factors of the flow network of highly educated talents from national and local perspective

Based on dynamic monitoring data on China’s population, by using complex networks, spatial analysis and mathematical measurement, this study reveals the spatial characteristics and influencing factors of the network of flows of highly educated talents in the Yangtze River Delta region from the national and local perspectives. In the two perspectives, the network has strong isomorphism and certain differences. The in-flow of highly educated talents from cities with high administrative levels and more developed economies to Shanghai constitutes the core of the entire network. From a national perspective, highly educated talents tend to converge to the Yangtze River Delta region. From a local perspective, it was found that these talents cluster towards a limited number of cities in the region. From both perspectives, the flow network has developed into a “core-periphery” progressive hierarchical structure, with Shanghai becoming the sole core city. There is little difference in the influencing factors of talent mobility from both macro and meso perspectives. Highly educated talents would frequently flow between cities with strong economic development levels, and cities with high education level, scientific and technological level, complete infrastructure, and good aesthetics. However, geographical distance still plays a hindering role in the flow of highly educated talents, and factors such as cultural identity, institutional, and social modality differences among regions also have a certain effect on the flow of these talents.

COMBINATION OF REGENERATIVE THERAPY AND FREE GINGIVAL GRAFT IN STAGE IV PERIODONTITIS: CASE REPORT

Introduction: Periodontal regenerative therapy can be used to repair damaged periodontal tissues caused by periodontitis. The combination of regenerative periodontal surgery and FGG (Free Gingival Graft) is expected to accelerate the regeneration of periodontal tissue. Case : A 37-year-old woman came with complaints of loose lower front teeth, frequent bleeding and pain when eating and drinking. The complaint was felt since 1 year ago. Clinical examination obtained an average pocket depth of 6 mm and an average second degree of tooth mobility. On radiographic examination found bone damage horizontally. Case Management: The patient received root planing scaling and occlusion adjustment, followed by dental periodontal surgery 42,41,31,32. Stage II surgery for recession closure therapy with FGG was carried out three months after stage 1 surgery was performed. Discussion: Regenerative periodontal surgery is performed to produce new periodontal tissue growth and restore connective tissue attachment to the teeth. Free Gingival Graft is performed to increase gingival keratinization and improve patient esthetics. Conclusion and Suggestions: The combination of regenerative periodontal surgery and FGG for the treatment of periodontitis cases involving severe bone destruction gives good results of periodontal tissue healing by alveolar bone healing and regeneration and quite good aesthetics.

Evaluation of open-face maxillary complete denture for patients with prominent premaxilla: a crossover study.

The establishment of good facial esthetics is one of the main objectives of complete denture construction. Unfortunately, it may be the caused issue for patients having a prominent premaxilla due to excessive lip support by the labial flange of the maxillary denture. Open-face dentures (OFD) may suggest suitable prosthetic management for these patients. However, clinical evidence regarding the efficiency of OFD is scarce. A total of 38 completely edentulous participants having prominent premaxilla and skeletal class I Angle's classification were enrolled in this study. Each participant received a mandibular complete denture and 2 opposing maxillary dentures; conventional (CD) and open-face (OFD). On the day of denture insertion, the participants were divided into 2 groups; CD-OFD and OFD-CD where CD-OFD group was instructed to use the mandibular denture and the maxillary CD for 3 months and then to use the maxillary OFD for another 3 months after a wash-out period of 2 weeks. While group OFD-CD was instructed to use the mandibular denture and the maxillary OFD for 3 months then to use the maxillary CD for another 3 months after a wash-out period of 2 weeks. The dislodging force of the maxillary dentures was evaluated using the universal testing machine and the patient perception of retention, esthetics, and comfort was evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Evaluation was carried out 1 day, 1 month, and 3 months after denture insertion. The Student t-test was used to compare the 2 maxillary dentures and the intervals for each denture were compared by using the ANOVA test with repeated measures followed by a Post Hoc test (adjusted Bonferroni) for pairwise comparison. The significance of the obtained results was judged at the 5% level (P value). The dislodging force and patient perception of retention did not show significant differences between the 2 dentures, while the perception of esthetics showed significant differences throughout the follow-up period. Perception of comfort showed an insignificant difference only at the 3-month interval. Open-face maxillary dentures can be a suitable alternative for patients with prominent premaxilla to achieve satisfactory retention, aesthetics, and comfort.

Socket-shield Technique and immediate implant placement for ridge preservation in the aesthetic region: a 1-year clinical and tomographic follow-up

Objective: To describe the clinical, radiographic and tomographic aspects, as well as complications, success, aesthetic and functional results of an implant placed using the “socket shield” technique. Case Details: Represents a 46-year-old patient, with increased mobility of the crown in the bucco-palatal direction, with indication for extraction replaced by immediate implant. Atraumatic extraction, socket preservation technique and immediate implant placement were performed. The socket-shield technique was designed for placing implants to protect the oral bone and achieve adequate aesthetics. The buccal fragment of the tooth was kept fixed and the implant was placed in contact with the tooth fragment. Cone Bean computed tomography showed bone formation in the buccal aspect 1 year later, and demonstrated stability of the peri-implant bone tissue and replacement of the root remnant by bone. The clinical appearance demonstrated maintenance of peri-implant soft tissues and good aesthetics without gingival retraction. Final considerations: One-year follow-up shows adequate healing and healthy peri-implant tissue, suggesting that the socket-shield technique with immediate implant placement can be an excellent alternative for preserving the vestibular cortex and implant placement, especially in the aesthetic area.

Sixty Years of Innovation in Biomechanical Orthognathic Surgery: The State of the Art and Future Directions

Craniofacial surgery is proposed and performed for a variety of reasons, ranging from congenital or acquired malformations to emotional disorders and parafunctions of the masticatory, respiratory, auditory, and visual systems. Surgery of the mandible and its orthostatic repositioning is the most common of these corrections of craniofacial anomalies. Throughout the history of these procedures, various techniques have been proposed and perfected, but always with a high rate of minor and major complications. The recurrence rate of mandibular malposition is high, as is the temporary loss of facial sensitivity and motor skills. These outcomes are often related to the choice of surgical technique rather than the skill of the surgeon, which is considered to be one of the most important factors in the final outcome. Surgical techniques involving direct manipulation of the vascular-nervous bundles, such as bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, clearly present the possibility of major or minor complications. In this study, an orthognathic surgical technique, performed by the same team for over 40 years and now available through a 20-year postoperative patient follow-up study, is presented with a literature review relating it to biomechanical concepts and bone remodeling to analyze the evolution of orthognathic surgery since it became common practice to correct maxillofacial discrepancies. In this review, we also present a case report in which previous orthodontic treatment prepared a patient for surgical correction of mandibular bone discrepancy without the need for combined maxillary and/or genioplasty, and we describe the most commonly used techniques today, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. The combination of established concepts together promotes favorable stability of mandibular osteotomies, functional anatomical positioning of the temporomandibular joint, reduced risk of injury to the mandibular vasculo-nervous bundle, and good aesthetics with positive patient acceptance and no relapse, thus these are the objectives for proposing innovative treatments that combine the technologies available today.

Use of Pressure in Rotational Molding to Reduce Cycle Times: Comparison of the Thermomechanical Behavior of Rotomolded Reed/Polyethylene Composites

Rotational molding advantages include the production of a hollow part with no welding lines, either of small or big sizes, with no internal stresses and good surface details. However, the process is limited by the long cycle times, and its related high energy consumption. Different strategies can be followed to reduce such energy use. This work assesses the use of pressure inside the molds during the densification and cooling stages, finding reductions in overall cycle time of approximately 20%, because of the reduction in the heating time required but also to the increased cooling rate. The influence of such an approach on the production of composites with reed fibers has also been assessed, finding a similar trend towards cycle time reductions. The rotomolded samples’ thermomechanical and rheological behavior were determined, finding that viscosity was not affected due to the incorporation of air during the moldings; besides, the homogeneity of the composites increased due to the mold pressurization. The parts obtained show good aesthetics and good thermomechanical behavior along the entire temperature range studied, and particularly for 10% composites; higher fiber ratios should be prepared via melt compounding. Therefore, the mold pressurization allows us to reduce both oven and cooling times, which can be translated into an increase in productivity and a decrease in energy consumption, which are undeniably related to the increase in the products’ sustainability and cost.

Introduction: Beauty and attractiveness of a person's facial features are very subjective and also influenced by many factors, such as cultural, social, and personal. It is due to many complex neural mechanisms, that we are able to perceive everything, and also decide if something is attractive or not. The most common and the most significant factors associated with good facial aesthetics are symmetry and proportions of the face. It is important to note that they can be thoroughly analysed using photogrammetry, which represents a non-invasive technique that involves using photographs or 3D imaging methods to capture and analyze the craniofacial structures and features for diagnostic, treatment planning, monitoring and research purposes. When it comes to photogrammetry, angular parameters such as nasofrontal, nasolabial, mentolabial and facial profile angle and linear parameters such as facial width to height ratio, nasal width, interocular and interpupillary distance, philtrum length, chin and forehead height of the face are of great importance. Aim: In this literature survey authors wanted to highlight if these measurements and parameters were enough for determining the beauty and attractiveness of a face if used on their own. Conclusion: Facial photogrammetry has several applications in the field of medicine, particularly in areas such as dermatology, orthodontics, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, due to the usage of angular and linear parameters, as well as other purposes. With many advancements and adjustments, it has become accurate and accessible and has also significantly improved diagnostics, patient care, treatments and outcomes in various cases in medicine and dentistry.

A digital workflow for tooth-supported complete overdentures with a composite resin injection technique to manage the treatment of a child with ectodermal dysplasia

This clinical report describes a digital workflow for the rehabilitation of an 8-year-old patient diagnosed with ectodermal dysplasia. Based on the patient’s digital primary casts, small custom trays and an arch tracer were designed and 3-dimensionally printed. The mandibular custom tray and retention plate with a tracing screw were assembled with tracing plate, forming an individual assembled mini-arch tracer system to record the jaw relationship together with a conventional facebow and a digital articulator. In addition, composite resin injection guides were designed and fabricated to form the predesigned targeted shape of the abutment teeth and provide a buffer. By following this workflow, complete overdentures with good fit, occlusion, and acceptable esthetics were delivered.

Influence of mold pressurization on cycle time in rotational molding composites with welded ignimbrite as loading

In the context of rising energy costs and climate emergencies, there is a need to incorporate novel procedures or materials to meet sustainability requirements and increase the efficiency of processes and use of resources. Although rotational molding might seem disadvantageous due to the long cycle times and high energy consumption, its inherent advantages, including the production of hollow parts of any size without wasting materials, with good surface reproducibility and no internal stresses, using cost-effective tooling remain noteworthy. To address energy consumption concerns, increase productivity, and enhance the environmental footprint of rotomolded products, this work proposes the incorporation of residual welded ignimbrite from quarries, a dusty material with over 60 % of SiO2, combined with the mold pressurization, finding a 4 % reduction of total cycle time with ignimbrite, which is further shortened to 12 % when pressure is applied. Particularly notable is the reduction 27 % reduction in oven time when using ignimbrite at 10 % under pressure. The thermomechanical and rheological characterizations revealno adverse effects either by the use of pressure or the mineral dust, thus establishing a viable alternative for energy (and cost) reduction. Besides, the obtained parts show good aesthetics, a stone-like aspect, which might provide additional features for applications such as outdoor furniture or storage tanks.
